This is outside to Tavon.
Tavon takes the three, got that one, back-to-back threes from the charges.
They pulled it.
They'll charge your basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM starts now.
Hello and welcome.
You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM Charger basketball.
The second part of this double-header, women's team able to win their ninth in a row.
Huge win for them.
The men's team also taken on Walsh.
What are we seeing for the Chargers heading into this game?
Chargers, I mean, all year they have done an amazing job of scoring the basketball.
They've been very efficient.
Their offense has not been stagnant.
Looking at their last few games here against Cedarville, 77 points.
Tiffin, 84, 75 of the game before that, 83, 79.
Chargers are putting the ball in the hoop.
Chargers also only two losses on the year 14 and 2.
I mean a tough loss on the 21st to UND by just two points.
Chargers have been hot just like the women's team.
A little preview for Walsh.
They are normally a historically tough team in the GMAC this year struggling a bit in conference 2 and 5.
Overall record 6 and 7 and they won their last game against Kentucky Wesleyan,
but before that three losses in a row.
Yeah, that's good to see them getting back in the win column.
but three in a row is always tough to bounce back from.
They are led by leading score.
Aidan Carter, 19.4 a game.
Pretty impressive, especially with their second leading score,
Kobe Mitchell, 16 points for him.
I mean, a couple guys that are high-volume scores could get hot in this game
trying to pull off the upset against the Chargers.
Definitely would be an upset.
Chargers look to keep this run moving.
I'm going to make it four in a row with a win here.
And undefeated in conference play so far.
8 and 0 trying to win GMAX once again.
And one thing also kind of a fun little note for this Walsh team is Zach Odo, for you that tuned into the last game.
If that sounds familiar, Mallory Odo, a player for the Walsh Cavaliers women's team.
So maybe siblings, cousin, something, same high school.
So there's some relation there's got to be some relation.
You grew up in the same place, have the same last name.
He averages 13 a game as well, one of their starters.
And I tell you what, I mean, Walsh, like I mentioned, historically, a very tough team in the G-MAC to see if they can find a way to pull off this upset.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see a tight game, at least for a little bit here.
Walsh always competes.
And, you know, it's tough.
I mean, obviously, on the Chargers to go undefeating Comments, but in such a tough conference, like the G-Mack can be,
it's hard to win all these games
but one thing the Chargers do have in advantage
they're at home they are at home
Don Tibbitt's Potter Arena
they don't they don't lose often at home
and I'm not sure they have this year
no I don't think they have
if I look at it
I'm not sure what they're
was you on you see at home
they are 9 and 1 they dropped 1 at home
I think it was you indie
but still I mean and that's a game
where everyone's on break
yes and very easily could have won
Yeah, two-point game, U-India, great program and pretty much all their sports.
So Chargers poised for another deep playoff run, hopefully this year.
And they're led by a lot of different guys doing a lot of different things.
True.
Charles Woodham, leading scorer, and he started all 16 for them, averaging 13.9 points a game,
bringing you 5.5 rebounds.
But I think we've got to get back to who I would call their best player.
And that's going to be Joe Ruter.
He's 12.4 on the year.
Not as much in the scoring column, but you know what?
Getting it done with seven rebounds a game as well.
He's kind of there, do it all.
Who do we want controlling this game for us?
They're going to go to Joe Ruter often.
One fact about him too.
Just listed as a finalist for top 100 players in D2 hoops.
Because he does it all.
He does it all.
Very impressive.
We're going to take it real quick to the national anthem
before the starting lineups.
You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7 FM.
Charger basketball. I'm Gordon. I'm Maria.
Welcome to the Astro Minute, where we're exploring the universe 60 seconds out of time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and today we're highlighting some astronomical events to watch for this December.
All seven planets are up this Christmas season, with Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn
bright to the naked eye, and Uranus and Neptune visible with binoculars.
The Geminid and Ercid meteor showers are active, peaking on December 13th and 22nd, respectively.
Look for different colors in the other.
unusual geminid meteors. December may also see more aurora thanks to our active sun. Beautiful winter
constellations and objects include Orion with the Orion Nebula in his sword, W-shaped Cassiopeia
with the nearby Andromeda Galaxy and double cluster, the Pleiades and Hyades clusters,
and all the stars of the heavenly G. And we remain alert for the recurrent Nova in Corona Borealis to
suddenly appear to the naked eye. That's your Astro Minute.
101.7 FM Charger basketball starting lineups.
Trying to get rolled out for both teams.
Starting with the Cavaliers.
First player in the guard, Toby Mitchell, transfer from D1 Akron as a junior.
He's seen talent before.
Next player is going to be Caleb Schaefer.
for 6-6-4 from Columbus, Ohio.
Brandon Ford, also from Akron University.
I didn't see that looking at it before.
Definitely interesting, two D-1 guys that made the switch over to Walsh.
Transferred together.
And I think one thing that we can just notice right off the bat is the size difference.
I mean, nobody above says.
6 in the starting lineup. You expect to see press. You expect to see high, uptempo.
A lot of energy. Because, I mean, the Chargers, you know, both their centers, large individuals
of CJ-Yarian at 610, and that Big Rick at 6-9-240.
Big Rick is just that big Rick. He's a post presence down there and with nobody even close
to his height or weight, they only have, wow, looking at it, they only have a couple guys over 200
counts.
Yeah.
You have to think that the Chargers,
coaching staff is trying to get the ball inside to their post players.
And Bruder, strong kid.
Another big guard to Charles Woodhams.
He loves to get to the post.
Big physical guard.
Big physical guys.
I don't know.
Walsh's lack of size does leave some concern.
Woodham's at 2.15 as a guard, 6'3.
That's a sturdy guard.
Joe Bruder weighing in at.
What do they have?
It's listed at 2.30.
Yeah, that's a guy that can potentially place the linebacker.
Yeah, there's some size for the Chargers,
so that's going to be one thing to note.
And, of course, one of our favorite players,
the Shifty Guard, Ashen Janowski.
Yeah.
A guy that's vintage and just gets to the mid-range.
Yeah.
I'll see it often.
No, don't see a ton of mid-range with his analytical basketball.
He's bringing it back.
He's going to get the start for the Chargers, first man.
And then, of course, as we mentioned,
Charles Woodham's leader of this team along with Joe Ruger.
Looks like Logan Beeson is going to get a start as well.
A great shooter.
Very heat.
He's a red shirt freshman.
He's 6'5.
He's got size at guard.
Chargers are going to be looking to play a little bit of bully ball.
Joe Ruter, of course, going to get the start and then closing things out.
Big Rick, of course.
A Hellsdale Chargers favorite down from.
You have to close it with big.
Another vintage big guy kind of, too, with the hook shot.
You don't see that much?
No.
Ian, you don't see the mid-range from guards.
So Chargers just play great fundamental basketball,
and what are their keys to winning against Walsh?
Kind of a lesser opponent.
I think you've got to control the basketball with Walsh.
Can't let them with their undersized and ability to get out and run.
Can't let them get going.
But I would say just keep the ball controlled
and get the ball down low to your big guys.
Use that size to your advantage and just play great defense.
And I think shut down the high volume scores.
Two guys with over 15 chargers.
Funnily enough, they're two best players on offense.
Probably they're two best players on defense.
Charles Woodham's a great defender along with Joe Rooder.
Yeah, those are two guys that you want on your basketball team,
doing everything they can to help you get a win.
Here we are underway with the tip, Router to Woodham's,
and we are underway.
Don Timmits Potterina Janowski, Tabisa, finds Woodham's.
Man to man early, Ruter on the wing.
Looking for offense, finds Big Rick with a size advantage down low.
Spins to the middle, hook shot up and good.
And that's just what we talked about, Gordy.
Get it to Big Rick and let him go to war.
Early basket there from Big Rick.
Your score two zero here with 1933.
Chance ringing out for defense here.
Top of the key.
It's going to be Zach Odo.
Going on, Ruta.
Down to the corner.
Back to Kobe Mitchell.
Mitchell swings it down to Caleb Schaefer.
He's going to find the leading score.
Aidan Carter, floater to the cup.
Good finish over Big Rick.
Their score 2 to 2.
19 to play here.
Chargers coming back the other way.
Ruter to Bison.
Back to Woodhouse.
Janowski drives.
Back down low to Big Rick on Schaefer.
I'm not going to get a foul early.
He had no choice.
He outweighs Big Rick outweighs Schaefer by 45 pounds.
And three inches of height.
And it looks, to be honest with you, it looks like more.
It does.
Big Rick is, he moves pretty good as well at that size.
Yeah, early foul on Schaefer, inbound to the charges.
Ruter swings it to Woodham's top key.
Fines Beeson.
Ten on the shot clock.
Back to Woodham's.
He'll pull up from the wing.
Three ball.
Good.
Your score, 5 to 2.
Big three from the 44% guy on the year.
Schaefer at the top of the key.
Down to Aiden Carter.
Back to the big feller.
Odo.
Odo trying to back down Ruder.
He won't go and they're going to call Router.
That's a tough call.
I got to be honest.
Call me old-fashioned.
That's no soft.
Router's just trying to do his best to hold the ground.
Even though he doesn't have the weight advantage on Odo.
About the same height, but more of a post player is Odo.
Kobe Mitchell off the inbound's mid-range pure.
Good shot there.
Your score 5 to 4.
Chargers up 1 with 18 to play.
Ruder back the other way, finds Bison.
Big Rip, top of the key.
Big Rick finds Woodhams.
Already made a 3 this game.
Backing down, finds Janowski,
trying to get to his spot in the mid-range camp.
Bissing.
9 on the shot clock.
Chargers have to go.
Step back.
Middy from Beeson won't go.
Chargers get back on defense.
Your score, five to four.
Point guard, Brandon Ford.
Over to Aiden Carter,
the almost 20 points of game score,
guarded by Janowski.
Finds the point guard,
Brandon Ford, back to Carter.
Aiden Carter, looking to work on Janowski,
good defense.
Download to Odo.
Odo, stripped away by Rooter, balls batted around.
He's in. Can't get it. Out of bounds. Charger basketball. Good hustle there.
What are you seeing for the focus here early for the cavaliers on offense?
They're doing a good job of taking advantage of their opportunities. Two tough shots made so far,
but makeable shots. Off the inbound, they got a good look at the mid-range.
Chargers back the other way, five to four.
Janowski drives, looks for the mid-range, can't find it. Woodham's, tries to find Big Rick denied by Schaefer.
Woodham's top of the key to Ruter.
Ruter working on Odo.
Back to Woodham's. He'll take the pull-up three ball.
His second of the night is good.
What a shot.
He's in from the Kalamazoo area.
Good looking shot for him.
Feeling it early. T-shirts flying, 8 to 4.
Odo on Ruder.
We're going to find Mitchell Kant.
Going to find down low.
Carter, guarded by Janowski, backing him down.
A little bit of a size advantage.
They're going to get Janowski for using his knee there while getting back down.
And I suppose.
They're calling it early.
Checking in early is going to be CJ Yerry in at center and Mikey McCollum, the sharp shooting sophomore.
We'll give Big Rick a break here.
He's been running around a lot of screens so far.
Great defense on the in by McCollum.
Tipped around.
Going to stay with the Cavaliers.
Eight to four with 1638.
A lot of good shooting early in this one.
A lot of good shooting.
Chargers getting some good looks and it's great to see Wudham's C2 go through the net early.
Yeah.
You'd love to see a shooter get hot early.
Inbound, King, or Ford.
Kobe Mitchell finds Ford.
Great defense by Yerian, tipped around, rebound Woodhams.
Chargers back the other way.
Ruter swings it to Janowski down low, Yarian with the size advantage here.
Guarded by Quintero Barnett.
Three ball, Wottoms.
Can he make it three?
Rims out.
It's a good look created by Yuri in there with the skip pass from the post.
Back the other way, Kobe Mitchell, screen.
There by Aiden Carter.
Aidan Carter guarded by McCallum.
Sophomore trying to stop their high score.
Floater in the lane.
Up and good, Carter.
Your score 8 to 6.
It's a really nice finish from Carter.
You see why he's such a high-volume score for the Cavaliers.
Woodham's gets a post-touch, swings it to Rooter.
Ruter to McCalla.
Back to Janowski looking for another post touch.
Janowski skip pass, Ruter.
Ruter will take the three ball open.
Won't go.
Rebound there by Aidan Carter, and he will slow things up.
Your score 8 to 6 with 15, 26 to play.
Crowd's starting to get into it here.
McCollum on Carter.
Tough drive there.
Skip pass by Kintero.
Finds Odo.
He'll take the mid-range, won't find it.
rebound Router and here come the Chargers back the other way
Ruter physical take up no good tips the rebound around
ends up in the hands of four
score 8 to 6 14 to 55 to play
good take from Ruter on the other end in the fast break we'll live with that all day
for the Chargers fan shot here Quintero Barnett three ball pier
deep three probably three four steps outside that three
not afraid to shoot it eight to nine Chargers fall down
down, Cavaliers up.
Switching things up here.
Can the Chargers find a buck in the column on the way?
Finds Woodhams.
He's hot so far.
Tough take to the rim.
Off the glass, good.
Eight early points for Woodhams.
Your score 10 to 9.
He's failing it early.
It's a tough take.
Great finish.
Charles Woodham's the senior leader of this team responding
starting Kobe Mitchell,
the second leading score here for the Cavaliers.
Looks to go ISO on Woodhams.
Good defense.
by Yerian, help side.
Back to four.
He looks to go, ISO.
Step back, three ball.
Good.
A lot of high difficulty
shots going through for
who looked like they could have gotten
Yerian on the fast break there.
Chargers down, 10 to 12,
13, 44 to play.
Mid-range, Janowski, that's his game.
That's what he does.
And I know we enjoy his game a lot.
Love to see that mid-range fall.
Your score, nodded at 12 with 1333.
to play a lot of offense here
Carter looking to work on McCollum
we're going to have help side
Carter tough take good
the
difficulty level of shots
made by the Cavaliers is
quite impressive to start the night
your score 14 to 12
Chargers down too
we're going to get a foul on the
Cavaliers thought it might be an illegal
screen it's going to take us to
immediate time out you're listening to Radio
Freel Dell 101.7 FM and gordon
I'm reading.
101.7 FM Charger basketball.
Reed, what has been going right for Walsh, the underdog here, up 14 to 12 with 13 to play?
They are making their tough shots.
They are making their tough shots.
Fadeaway mid-range.
We're talking deep threes.
Bumped well, hitting floaters over 6-9 and 6-10 defenders.
That's a recipe for success.
tough shots look that easy.
Brandon Ford as well, the point guard guarded by Yarian,
which means you think maybe he's not an offensive threat as much,
Chargers trying to mix things up and he hits a step back three.
Yeah, I think that might have given him a little bit of confidence
when he sees a defender that tall trying to guard him on the perimeter.
Yeah, he's able to hit a step back over Yarian.
And I'll tell you what, Chargers' offense looks great.
I mean, they were getting to their spots hitting their shots as well,
but I need to fix the defense here early 12 to 14.
as we mentioned, Chargers ball out of this time out after the foul.
Bit of a barrage here from the Cavaliers.
If you can withstand that and hope they get back to normal,
you're feeling okay if you're the Chargers.
And the Chargers really have, I mean, not played terrible defense
because a lot of these shots aren't open.
Well, not open, but they are going in.
And for this one, maybe a two-point game.
It could be good things to come for the Chargers team.
They switch things up to maybe a zone, maybe press,
something to try to get the cavaliers out of the rhythm they have right now.
Yeah, I just got to...
And I don't...
I think you just got to hope those tough shots
start to not fall in and go in your favor
because you're playing great defense.
And a good rebounding team, the Chargers are as well.
So they're going to get this baseline out of bounds.
Line a bit for the Chargers.
Woodham's, Boltee, Yerian, McWinney, and McCollum.
McQuinnie, top of the key.
Squeeze it.
to Woodhams. He's got eight early.
McCallum. Looking to score on Odo.
Driving. Backing him down. Fade away in the mid-range.
McCollum won't go rebound, Odo.
Coming back the other way in for the game, Matthew Biddle for the Cavaliers.
And they're going to give it to Carter here.
He was 20 points a game.
On the wing, Catero Barney.
Looking for something here, Toby Mitchell.
Iso here for Carter, guarded by...
The bigger defender, Yerian.
Looking for something.
Six on the shot clock, got to go.
Pull up.
Three ball.
Good.
High volume scores.
17 to 12, charges down.
Five.
I mean, that's...
I mean, Walsh has had to take up most of the shot clock for most of their possessions.
Just can't get a good look, and then somebody comes in and saves them.
McWenny back the other way for the chargers, looking for something.
Can't find anything.
It's going to go out of bounds.
There's been a miscommunication there.
Checking in for the Chargers, Logan Beeson, Caleb Glazer, another one of those big men,
and the senior Joe Ritter.
Yep.
Looks like McCollum's going to stay on Carter, but he has had his way early.
Put up a smaller lineup in here for the Chargers.
I wonder if that's trying to match up with some of the speed.
See what they can do.
Aidan Carter, tough take to the right-hand side is good.
A little show and go.
19 to 12. Chargers fall down at 7 here early.
Router to McCallum.
Back to McWenney.
Looks to drive, nothing, Router.
High energy from the Cavaliers, bounce past to the corner to Beeson.
He drives, kicks.
McWilly, he'll take the three ball.
Good.
Huge shot for the Chargers, the senior Cole McWenney, 15 to 19.
Big answer.
Big answer.
Chargers down for it with 11.19 to play.
Carter.
looking to keep this scoring streak going back the other way.
Finds Kobe Mitchell.
Swings it to Cantero Barnett.
Back to Carter.
He's their man.
On McCollum, good defense.
Odo.
Swings it to Cotero Barnett, and he walked.
Trying to do too much there.
Yeah, a lot of jab steps.
Just ended up moving that.
It's going to be a TV timeout.
You're listening to Radio for Yieldsdale 101.1.7 FM,
Charger basketball.
I'm Gordy.
I'm Reed.
where we're saving the English language 60 seconds out of time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and someone recently asked me for my opinion on the word skiddle.
Well, he didn't actually ask.
He said he didn't like the word, and I said I did, and one thing led to another,
and here I am making an episode about it.
Recently, I suggested using highly descriptive verbs and nouns rather than heaping up a bunch of adjectives.
For example, instead of saying the food was very good,
describe the experience of enjoying that food, using strong words like savored,
or, oh, here's a good one, scrumptious.
This can take it a little far when you start using words
most people don't understand, such as crepuscular, for example.
I have no idea what that means,
and something about the texture of the word makes me uncomfortable.
In my opinion, skiddle doesn't fall into this category.
It's an interesting, somewhat unusual word
that sounds like what it means and is commonly understood.
So, though it isn't frequently used,
it conveys a lot of descriptive information.
That's your grammar minute.
You're listening to Radio for Hillsdale 101.7 FM Charger basketball. Your score, Walsh Kevillers 19. Hillsdale Chargers 15.
Reed has much changed since that last time out? Not a ton. Chargers are just trying to survive this barrage of offense from Aidan Carter.
I mean, he is doing it in every facet of the game. Yeah, true. Three-level score right now. He's been a threat.
see what the charge can do out of this TV timeout.
Bolty on the wing.
Back to McWenny, who just hit the big three for the Chargers.
Ruter.
Catch, shoot, three ball, won't go.
Rebound Carter.
That's a look you can live with.
10.44 to play, 15 to 19.
Chargers still down.
We need a spark here to keep the crowd in it.
Carter, going to work on Ruter.
Tough defense.
Let's switch it.
Beeson on. Carter now, trying to give him the ball.
Contrero Barnett.
Back to Kobe Mitchell.
Step back. Deep three. Off the front of the rim won't go. Long rebound. McWinney hustles for it. Barnett
corrals it for Walsh. He takes it to the cup. Wadab and lay up and lay up. Good. Second chance points. They're going to kill you.
If you let Walsh with as hot as their offense been get second chance points, this game might be over.
Your score, 2115, 10 to play. Chargers trying to slow down this high-powered offense.
McWenny off the screen, looking. Finds Router. Swings it over to Bolte.
McWenny. He comes off the screen. He'll fire one. Good. Cole McWenny. Great shot.
18 to 21. Chargers respond with a three of their own. 940 to play. Chargers keeping in it.
Only down three here. Toby Mitchell back to Carter guarded by Router. Great match up here.
Carter trying to back down Router. Good defense. McWilly. Contarro Barnett, corner three ball off the
rim. Great. Box out by Boltey rebound Router.
Chargers in transition.
Ruter looks for boltie.
Can't find him.
Just wasn't looking for the ball there.
Ruter hit him right in the hip.
Coming back the other way, Odo, spin, hook shot high, arcing, good.
Your score, 18, 23, Chargers fall back down, five with nine to play.
And you know what, we thought the advantage would be Hillsdale in the paint,
and Walsh has been getting a lot of whatever they want in the paint so far.
Skip pass, boltie three ball, won't go.
Rebound Kintaro Barnett.
Guards doing a great job, but rebounding for Walsh.
And they kind of have to, due to their lack of size, rebound by committee.
8.40 to play.
Katero Barnett finds.
Zach Biddle, tough take on Glazer.
Good.
2518, Chargers back down to their largest deficit of seven.
Glazer on the wing finds Rooter.
Chargers need a basket here.
Beasted.
They're going to get a hold there.
Matthew Biddle.
Just scored on the other end.
Had a little bit of mismatch on Glazer,
and he had to grab him there.
Yeah, tough when you're that undersized.
Chargers are going to get their starting lineup
for the most part back in.
Woodham's Janowski and Big Rick.
Down 1825, Walsh.
Whenever we think the Chargers might make a run,
big, big shots.
Yeah, a lot of big shots for the Cavaliers so far.
Janowski, top of the key, out of the out of bounds.
Trying to work on Ford.
Find Woodhams.
Swings at the boltie.
Gets a screen, Janowski.
Back to Big Rick.
Woodhams with seven on the shot clock has to work.
Von Schaefer, tough take.
Woodhams floats it up, won't go.
Rebound Big Rick.
Open layup won't go.
Another rebound, Big Rick.
Potes it up.
Good.
Big Rick. They call him Big Rick for a reason.
Your score 20 to 25.
Size advantage showing on that possession for the Chargers.
Back the other way, Walsh.
Contaro Barnett, driving on Janowski.
Has an open layup, floater good.
It's a good move right there.
2720.
Avalier's up seven, once again, 7.30 to play.
Router on the right wing.
Finds boltie.
Looking for Woodham's in the post, finds Big Rick pumps.
Got the size advantage on Schaefer.
Back them down. They bring the double. What a pass.
Blocked away.
Rebound, boltie, and they got a foul.
Great defensive play there by Aidan Carter.
I like that look, though.
Great pass from Big Rick.
And the Chargers Big Men doing a good job passing so far.
It's going to take us through a TV timeout.
You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM Charger Basketball.
I'm Gordy.
I'm Reed.
Seconds out of time.
I'm Lauren Smith back with another writing tip of the week.
There are some words that you almost never need to use, no matter what you're writing.
This includes words that are boring, overly complicated, or poorly defined.
There's a long list of words that could fall into these categories, but a few that come to mind include very, actually good, bad, biweekly.
And if that sounds suspiciously specific, check out the episode I did on that miserable word.
Literally unique and phenomenon.
If you feel like you must use one of these words, first consider whether there's a stronger word you could use.
Replacing good with almost any other adjective, for example, is almost guaranteed to make your writing more interesting.
Second, consider whether your reader is likely to need a dictionary to understand what you're saying.
There's a fine line between interesting and overly complicated and the best writers walk this line like prose.
That's your grammar minute.
Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM Charger basketball. Your score, 2720 Chargers. Down of 7.7.19 to play. Reed, what's going on?
I don't think any of us expected the Cavaliers to start this roaring hot from everywhere on the court.
We've seen the Chargers play high-volume scores, but I've been able to minimize.
that typically but right now I tell you what scoring in bunches for the high scores they've been fun
to watch baseline out of bounds inbound reber down to the low block big Rick throws it away cantero
barton coming back to the way aiding Carter spins out Router great defensive play tipped
away tipped it away again stolen away by Ruter coming back the other way finds boltie he steps into
a three ball won't go rebound Aiding Carter
and Walsh will slow it up.
27-20, Chargers down 7 with 6.50 to play.
Good look from the charges there.
Got to be content with an open 3 in transition.
Taking it to the cup.

It's going to be one-on-one here.
You don't love that late of a foul by a guy who you want in the game more.
Don't love him picking up an extra foul as the half winds down.
And especially, I'll check that.
going to be the one-on-one. It would have been a lot worse there if they got three points off of it,
but six seconds. Baseline, check that sideline to Odo. He looks to drive. He'll take a high,
arcing mid-range, won't go, and that's going to end your half. Chargers take the lead,

Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Charger basketball.
Your score here, 37, 35. Chargers are up to.
What are the charges have to do to keep us up?
I mean, I think they just keep doing what they were doing at the end of the half.
Playing great defense, making tough shots, making open shots, getting themselves good looks.
All started on the defensive end for them.
They were able to kind of survive that initial hot streak from the Cavaliers and have handled the comeback well so far.
looking to keep that going. I think one big thing to note too is they switched Ruter onto Carter,
and I think that just works well. He's not a super big guy Carter, but he's been getting to the
paint on smaller guards like Chownowski and McCollum, and I think that switch is nice for them.
Yeah, he's been physical all night, but getting kind of whatever he wanted in the paint,
and Ruter's just not going to let that happen too much pride for him.
Ruter flying around, getting a couple tips, getting a couple steals, a little blocked in there,
and then that translates, like you've said.
It's all about the defense here for the charges.
If they can get a couple stops, open this thing up,
their offense has been great.
Yeah, and it just keeps that momentum going.
It's really a great ability they have
to turn their defense into efficient offense.
And they do that just about as well as anybody.
Timely threes, too.
I think it's the other thing.
McCollum had a big one.
McGuney's made a couple big ones.
Obviously, Woodham's with three of them.
Really not his game, but three-frees from him early.
He's just been tough.
And like I said, the Chargers, we really thought it was going to be a battle of the post.
But Walsh has done pretty well at denying post touches.
And then when they get it not fouling, hands up, and then getting the rebound.
Yeah, Walsh has four being so outmatched in size in the paint.
I've really competed down there.
I've seen a lot of denying, a lot of front side defense from them,
just keeping it out of the paint and being physical, honestly.
They're smaller host players have really gotten physical with Rick and Yerry.
I think the key too for Walsh is, can they find a sustainable offense?
Or will this ISO kind of end of the shot clock need a bucket?
Got it?
Will that continue or, you know, that's a tough thing to continue even for high volume scores like Aidan Carter?
It is tough, but we'll have to see here.
Yeah, it should be a fun one here just about a minute or so until we kick off this second half.
It's been a fun one here at Don Tibbet Spotterina Chargers,
looking to stay perfect in the conference.
As the Lady Chargers, what a start for them in the conference playing nine and
nine wins in a row now.
Nine straight wins.
It's tough to do at any level of any sport.
Nine wins in a row is tough.
And their plan is about as good of basketball as anyone right now.
And they need to be as they have a tough matchup coming up against Ashland.
Women's basketball powerhouse the last couple of years kind of ran the G-Match.
in they did fall to the Northwood Timberwolves who the Chargers just beat by two.
Should be a fun one here. Chargers looking to stay perfect in conference play 37 35 here.
The fans are getting into it when we make a three. I tell you what, energy is good in here.
Yeah, it's on to hit it's Potter Arena, bringing it as usual.
It helps when you're 14 to 2.
I'll tell you that. It definitely does.
It doesn't hurt.
No. The more you win, the more people are going to want to show up to your games.
Coach getting the guys fired up.
His second season, Kevin Bradley, took over for the legendary John Tharp.
New AD here at Hillsdale and talk about energy.
Oh, yeah. You want to talk about a guy who brings juice on the daily.
He'll see anybody walking in the hallway.
He'll start a conversation with just some juice.
And it's great to see when you lose a coach like that, obviously taking the position as a.
and you see a coach come in and do a great job like Kevin Bradley has done last year they they did
lose a lot of players Jack Golki obviously a magical run at Oakland and then Patrick Cartier
over there at Colorado State playing overseas now so I mean just to have the talent kind of dissipated
and then coming back we are underway though here sideline out of bounds goes into Ford
screened Tabaki by Odo back
Victor Bradley, go.
Check that.
That's Kobe Mitchell.
Good finish there.

barely having to leave the ground to get a rebound big Rick trying to plead his case that he's shooting
and they're going to give it to him here he's going to get two of them here 37 all rate game here
we knew we mentioned in the pregame that olsh is a feisty team as always and they've shown it here
Oh yeah, a lot of fight, a lot of hustle from them.
First shot from Big Rick, up and good, and for a big guy, he's got great touch.
Great touch.
Round the rim, he shoots the three ball a little bit.
Don't see that from a guy his size, the D2 level.
Second one's up and no good.
Tough rebound.
Got to stay here.
Woodham's with the hustle play there to tip it.

Schaefer's going to check out here for another guy that's scoring well.

What do you see it out there, read?
Exciting game so far.

second chance here the column drives tough take right hand layup and he's filed physical take
Kobe Mitchell, one of their leading scores,
trying to stand in there, take a charge.
I can get him with the block.
That's a really good take there.
It's tough too.
He's in that circle there.
Could have been a charge maybe, but...
I think caught him on the hip.
Caught him on the hip.
Rep's discussing what they saw there.
There's a tough fall there from the column.
Feels like we're going to keep that as a block.
We're going to keep it as a block here.
Great game here early, 4540, 1544 to play.
What do the chargers need to keep doing on the defensive end as they've kind of limited the shots?
I think they just continue to limit dribble drive penetration.
That first half, a few too many easy looks inside, easy layups.
When they've started to go on their runs a little bit, they've been playing good perimeter defense.
making Walsh settle for some tough threes, and they're going to make some.
They're shooting the ball well tonight, but you have to live with them taking a few seconds on the shot clock and hitting a step back three.
You can live with that.
Yeah, I think that's the key.
Obviously, we saw Kobe Mitchell hit that big three to cut the lead.
But, I mean, the charges have run a good job of making them take those tough shots, and they haven't fallen at the same rate.
No, no, have not fallen.
And we kind of, you can't expect to go into a game and shoot 75% on contested threes, contested mid-range.
Even the layups have been highly contested.
Just great job by Walsh to make them, but it seems to not be the case as much.
The column's going to go to the line here after discussion for two.
Refes did a good job there, sorting things out.
Great call.
45-40, chargers up 5, 1544 to play in the column to the line for two.
and McCollum is a sharpshooter.
Doesn't start many games, has played in all 16, hasn't started one,
but averages almost 12 a game,
and from the charity stripe is about an 87% shooter.
First one is up and no good.
Hope to have him make this second one here, though.
To a six-point lead, who.
Trying to make up firmly a two-possession game.
Second one is up and good.
4640. Inbound goes to Kobe Mitchell. He's done most of the work here, handling the ball for the Cavaliers. He's got at top of the key.
He swings it to the right wing. It's Catero Barnett, the freshman.
Mitchell's going to take a deep three, feeling it won't go, bat it around. Out of bounds, off the Chargers.
Can't allow those second chance points.
No, cannot give them another opportunity, especially as hot as they've been. They start missing a few.
few shots cannot let them start to get the rhythm back.
Base flying out of bounds, Contrero Barnett.
Looking for somebody. Great defense by the Chargers.
Tipped up in the air. Woodhams goes for it.
Oh, they got him for a foul.
Push on Woodams.
It looks like the big bro just going for the ball, but they got Woodams.
That's going to be his third.
I don't love that call.
Feels like he got the ball.
Kind of disrupted his balance when the ball was in the air, but I don't.
I mean, a bit of a, not necessarily a flop,
but a bit of an acting job there.
sold it well sold it well for sure was a physical play but both guys going for the ball i think it's just

It looked like he slipped a little bit.
Foot ended up tripping him.

Thanks. Welcome to the Astro Minute, where we're exploring the universe 60 seconds out of time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and today we're highlighting some astronomical events to watch for this December.
All seven planets are up this Christmas season, with Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn bright to the naked eye,
and Uranus and Neptune visible with binoculars.
The Geminid and Ercid meteor showers are active, peaking on December 13th and 22nd, respectively.
Look for different colors in the unusual Geminid meteors.
December may also see more aurora thanks to our active sun.
Beautiful winter constellations and objects include Orion with the Orion Nebula in his sword,
W-shaped Cassiopeia with the nearby Andromeda Galaxy and double cluster,
the Pleiades and Hyades clusters, and all the stars of the heavenly G.
And we remain alert for the recurrent Nova in Corona Borealis to suddenly appear to the naked eye.
That's your Astro Minute.
Hello, and welcome back to listen to Radio for Hillsdale 101.1.1.4.
7 FM Charger basketball, tend to play in this game, 5446.
Walsh, keeping it close.
A lot of game left, though, only down eight.
Only down eight.
And it's been an intense game back and forth.
Very entertaining so far.
Yeah, and as we mentioned, Janowski going to the line for two.
He always hits that turnaround midi, hit him with a nice counter up and under.
Got foul.
Janowski to the line.
it at a 78% click at the line.
See if you can knock down two.
Extend that lead back to 10.
A little bit of confusion here.
Chargers talking about a game plan
and offense rebounds for both sides.
It's been huge.
Interesting, Ruder getting a little medical attention
with the trainer getting his hand
would appear to be wrapped.
His thumb, maybe.
Yeah, might have jammed a thumb or maybe.
Yeah, it looks like a thumb.
Maybe a little cut on his hand potentially.
I didn't want any blood, but good to see him still in the game for the Chargers.
Janowski, first one up and pure.
55-46, exactly 10 to play in this game.
Here we are, second shot.
Up and good.
Winning a 7 for the shooter.
Baseline out of bounds here for Walsh.
I need a bucket here to keep it close.
56-46.
Down 10 with 10.
to play. Aiden Carter back in, but Mitchell out.
Cantero Barnett finds Aiden Carter here, spins. Toffield.
What a finish and one. What a shot there by Aiden Carter.
A move. Crossover into the spin, high pickup, into the end one layup.
56, 48, with a chance to make it 49. Aiden Carter checks back in an instant offense.
Yeah, Aiden Carter. I got to be honest, it feels like they stopped trying to get.
hit him the ball a little bit too much towards that kind of 15 minute in the second half period.
And seeing him get the ball again should be exciting for Walsh fans.
Free throw up and good.
Only a sophomore, Aidan Carter, big things ahead of him.
I'm going to cut this lead though.
56, 49.
McGuney left wing swings it to Router.
Looking to work on Odo.
Tough take inside.
Balls tipped around and a foul on Odo.
Not sure which one that is on him, but he's had a few.
Yeah, had a few tough task, Gardner.
That's going to be his fourth, too.
He's been a huge part of their offense,
and they're going to check in Mitchell for him.
Yeah, and Router, he gets more aggressive as the game goes on.
It feels like his motor doesn't wear down as quickly as everyone else's.
Second best free throw shooter on the team.
Router up and good.
57, 49, 936 to play.
Router's shooting it at almost 84%.
like we said does it all for this charges team
their best post presence
Odo back out he's been guarding Ruder all day
interesting to see what the calves do with him of four
and only 930 to play down eight
Routers second shot
Calm cool collected won't go tipped around
Glazer rebound Mitchell
Aiden Carter
He's got the ball here top of the key
working on Ruter a great matchup of two stars

Beeson will take his first three of the night.
Won't go, long rebound.
Out to Ruter, balls tipped around.
Jump ball, possession arrow to the Chargers.
Just another hustle play from Bruder.
As we mentioned, he's getting more aggressive as this game comes on.
A guy down for Walsh.
It's never good.
It's going to be number two.
Catero Barnett, physical play there.
Both guys going for the offensive and defensive rebounds respectively.
And he hate to see that.
Seems to be holding that low, calf, high ankle.
A little more on the outside.
Yeah, it looks like he already has a wrap on it.
So I hope he's okay.
the freshman from Brunswick, Ohio.
And I tell you what, looking at this roster,
young team for Walsh.
Young team for Walsh, exciting team for Walsh.
Kobe Mitchell, he's been electric, only a junior.
Cuntero Barnett, some quick buckets for them,
a freshman, the man of the hour tonight for them.
Aidan Carter, only a sophomore.
Good to see getting off under his own power.
Barnett, kind of hobble off there.
Hopefully he gets tended to,
and it could be a cramp or something,
maybe a collision but hoping it's a cramp maybe a
deep bruise not too serious for him he's played well tonight
yeah he's been a fun player a great young guard for them
came off the bench didn't start but it was really explosive for them
throughout this game yeah felt his impact early and often with him and Odo out

Where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time. I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm here to tell you that brand names are capitalized.
This probably sounds obvious. Of course, you're going to capitalize Puell or Windex. But what about less obvious brand names that have also become popular words, like weed eater, hydroflask, Hoover, and so on?
In formal published writing, these words, even though commonly used, still need to be capitalized.
There's some wiggle room with this.
Some words are just so commonly used and so rarely associated with brands that it just looks really weird to capitalize them.
It would probably seem strange if jacuzzi or Velcro or trampoline were randomly capitalized in the middle of a sentence,
especially since most people don't know these are brands.
You can be flexible with these words, but generally it's best to follow the rule, capitalize,
brand names. That's your Grammar Minute. Visit thegrammerminant.com for more tips and tricks.

Charger Basketball, your score, 5752. Good to see Tarrobarnett looking to give it a go, I think,
for Walsh. Not checking in, but good to see him moving around. Yeah, good to see him able to get away
from the trainers a little bit, hopefully.
I can't get healthy here.
He's been exciting.
Base line out of bounds after the possession arrow went to Walsh.
Inbound to Aidan Carter, taking over the point guard rolls with no Barnett here.
Eight minutes to go, 57, 52.
Carter on the left wing working on McCowell.
Calm drive, Schaefer, deep three ball won't go.
Rebound, Woodham's a strong, rebound and a quick foul there on Ford.
for trying to get a quick steal after the rebound by Woodhams,
but it's going to cost them a one-on-one here for Woodhams.
Yeah, and when you know you're in that one-in-one range,
can't really be affording to give up fouls
without Hillsdale having to earn it at all.
Especially as great of a free-throw shooting team that Chargers are.
Tara Bartonaut does check back in for Cavaliers.
Good to see that.
Good to see that.
Rooder's also going to check back in for the Chargers.
He's going to get Garibaldi and one in one here for Woodham's.
He shoots it at the line at exactly 80%.
See if he can knock these through from the charity stripe.

Aiden Carter, guarded by Router, trying to drive to the left on the left wing here.
Drives back to the middle.
Tough defense by Router.
Oh, my, and one foul on Router there.
What a shot.
That's a tough scoop layup while getting hit.
It's been impressive.
Yeah, and checking back in here a little bit more size.
with Odo. He's got four, something to watch. Router his third. 60 to 54 chance to cut it to five if this
one falls for Carter. The way he's seeing the hoop right now, you would imagine it goes in.
Yeah, I mean, that thing is looking a bit wider than usual.
And he's not really a three-point shooter, just pure score really.
Yeah, there's no. And good. There's no one spot of the court that I go. Now he's better than this,
but he i mean his driving is probably the top of his game but he can get it done at all three levels
he makes it 60 to 55 630 to play mcwinny post touch down in the block big rick spins tough move

Big Rick, given the Chargers life in the second half.
Aidan Carter working on McCallum kicks it, tipped around, stolen by Router.
Goes to Wudham's and they're going to slow it up here.
67, 58, 4.30 to play McCollum on the left wing.
Chargers set up the offense with 20 on the shot clock.
McWenny, top of the key, finds Ruter.

Mitchell, working on McCollum.
ISO, tough drive, to the right-hand lay-up.
Good.
Tough finish, and Walsh is going to pick up full court here.
67, 60, down 7 with just under 4 to play.
McWinney.
McCollum, they break the press on the right wing.
McCollum swings one to Woodham.
He looks to drive.
Can't find anything, dribbles it up to the top of the key.
Big Rick on the left wing.
finds McCallum. He'll take the wing three ball. Won't go. Rebound Carter.
67, 60 with 3.30 to play. Carter on McWinney. Left wing finds the corner to Barnett,
back to Mitchell on the left wing. Top of the key, it's Biddle. He'll take the deep three ball,
won't go. Rebound Woodham's. And if you're Walsh, you have to be wondering why
multiple possessions in a row the ball has not been in Aden Carter's hand.
Coming back the other way, Woodham's on the block, tipped around, Barnett out of bounds, got a piece of it.
It's going to take us to a 30-second timeout here. Your score is 6760 with 313 to play.

baseline out of bounds for the Chargers.
Looking to hold on and stay undefeated at conference play.
Walsh, open for a spark of offense.
Got all their high volume scores in the game.
Dangerous lineup here to end the game.
You have to imagine they're going to end the game with this line.
Inbound goes to McCollum on the left wing.
He dribbles it up to the top of the key.
Finds the area on the left wing.
Great backdoor cut.
Woodham's tough finish inside.
Won't go.
Tipped around, rebound forward.
Good rebound from a smaller guard.
gives it to their man, Aiden.
And Aiden Carter with 2.50 to play, down seven.
High screen.
Kick out. Mitchell takes one from the parking lot.
Won't go.
Tough rebound forward.
Great effort, but I'm going to say he was out of bounds.
I know you're trying to get an offense going quicker,
but that's a deep three to take that early on the shot clock.
These kind of crazy shots from Walsh that were falling so well.
in the first half don't seem to be hitting as well.
67, 60, quick in-bounds.
Woodham's, lob, Yerry, and God!
69, 60 with two, 30-to-play, Chargers.
Go up nine.
Aiden Carter, bringing it up, working on McCallum.
They need offense, and they need it in a hurry.
Aidan Carter, he's their guy.
On McCallum, a column.
McCollum stands in.
Oh, it's a block.
Could have been called a charge, I believe,
but they're going to get McCollum on the block.
Did a great job standing in on Carter, but...
I would have thought so, but we to criticize refs.
Yeah, and that's going to put them in the bonus here.
Carter going to the line.
See if he can knock a couple in here, down 69, 60 with 2, 24 to play 1-1.
Chargers has done a great job of slowing this game down
and kind of suck him the life out of the Cavaliers.
And if Walsh, if you're Walsh, you have to take advantage of these untimed points.
And he does.
First one's up and good.
69, 61.
You have to imagine if he makes this one.
Quick timeout by Walsh, set up their defense.
Yeah, set up a little bit of a press, try and get the ball back, a little bit more aggressive.
Second shot here from Carter, takes his time at the line.
Up and good.
No timeout from Walsh, though, 6962.
Routre looking to find some of the finds McCollum.
Trying to break this press in the column and the back court.
Here comes the double team.
McCollum looking.
Can't find anything.
Chuck's one deep to you.
Yerian and he drops it.
Had an open layup, McCallum.
Great job seeing the floor.
Out of bounds off, Yerian, 69, 62 with 2.13 to play.
Just a tough drop.
Missed opportunity.
Walsh is going to roll the ball up to court here, trying to save time.
Carter, top of the key, working on McCollum.
He's looking to score, picks up his dribble, left wing.
Barnett.
Burnett driving at Janowski to the left side.
Up in, no good.
Got the foul, though.
Could have been a huge hand one.
said it's going to be two at the line for Barnett.
Good to see him back in.
69, 62, two to play.
Big for the Cavaliers getting fouled, going to the line.
Looking to take advantage.
Like we said, those untimed buckets could be huge.
I could imagine a timeout here at some point for Wallace just to set up that defense.
First one from Barnett's up in no good.
Favoring that left calf.
69, 62.
Still a game here, especially the way that Walsh has been able to score in bunches.
See if he can knock home this second one.
Up and good.
Once again, no time out for Walsh, 69, 63, 2 to play.
Collum gets it in the back court.
They bring the double.
He finds Janowski, swings it to Wudems.
Chargers have numbers.
They're going to slow it up and burn some clock here.
Aggressive defense.
Janowski finds him a column, top of the key.
He drives, tough take, right-hand lay up.
crafting finish 71 63
139 to play
starting to get out of reach here for the
Cavaliers we're really seeing that
charger's offense that maturity to deal with this
moment to deal with the press
tough layup inside won't go
rebound Yerian 71 63
Chargers back the other way minute 20 to play now
we're going to take all the shot clock you would have to
believe 20 on it now
right wing
Yerry in top of the key back to
Janowski setting up the offense
Chargers get a good one here
it might be it
McCallum on the left wing
finds Ruter seven to go
he goes ISO on Mitchell
tough move step back corner
three ball won't go
tipped out of bounds off Walsh
and that's going to reset the shot
clock to 20 with 57.8
to go 71 63
that's tough from Walsh
would love to have corralled that rebound
that have given the Chargers another shot.
Chargers use all the shot clock,
and they get another opportunity to do so here.
Baseline out of bounds, finds McCollum in the corner,
tough drive, floater won't go, rebound forward.
Outlet to Carter, 50 seconds to go.
He drives on the right wing.
Great defense by McCollum.
Guessed where he was going to go on the move there.
Had him, had that as he locked down.
And I don't love the quick shot off the inbound from the charges down here.
Put a burn a little bit more clock.
And I don't think it's going to hurt them here, but potentially that could be a learning opportunity later down the road in a close game.
Inbound goes inside a Carter stolen by the column.
Trying to corral it.
Timeout, White.
A veteran play, well, he had the ball to call at 71.63 with 38.8 to play.

71.63. 366 to play.
Router to the line for the one in one.
First one is up and good.
72, 63. Chargers beginning to slowly but surely pull away.
Ruter is the second one up and good.
Great game from him.
73, 63. Walsh.
Can't seem to close the gap. Chargers, great defense here in the second half.
Barnett, looking for a three.
Mitchell driving foul on Janowski. He's going to get to one-on-one here.
Check that. It's going to be the double bonus.
Got to make both here.
Got to make both, and then maybe a quick time out, set up the defense to steal.
Try and get a steal.
Starts with these two at the line.
We're going to give it to Kobe.
Mitchell at the line, he shoots it at an 86% from the line. Their best for you. The first one's no good.
Missed it. Seventy-63, 28.4 to play. Chargers kind of squeeze the life out of this game in the second half.
Definitely did. Mitchell, second one up and is good. Quick imbounds to Janowski.
73, 64. They're going to file Janowski here. 26 to play.
Janowski, another one of those great free throw shooters, 79%.
See if you can knock these in here.
Got to think knocks both these down.
Yeah, obviously this game is pretty much all but over,
but I love to see these go in.
First one does, 74, 64.
Like you said, expected to be a good game
just because of the way Walsh program has been ran the last couple years in it.
It didn't disappoint.
No, did not disappoint.
Final score feels a little more comfortable than it was for the Chargers.
For sure.
75-64, second one's up and good.
This line out of bounds, Walsh, Tarobarnet, going to take it in.
Bad pass going by Yerian and the Chargers can dribble it out here.
No foul from Walsh.
It's going to seem like it.
That's going to do it here.
Don Tevitt stand on your feet.
Undefeated in conference play, your Hillsdale College Chargers.
As the clock hits zero here, your final score is 75.
