Welcome to 101.1.7 FM, Radio Free Hillsdale. For a special broadcast in Hillsdale Men's Basketball versus the Walsh Cavaliers, projected starters for Hillsdale is Ashton Janakowski, number two, sophomore guard. Number four, Charles Woodhams, number 22, Samuel of the Sioux, number 31, CJ Yerian, and number 33, Joe Ruder. For Walsh, you have starters, number one, Kobe Mitchell, number 14, Colin McHale, number 21, Garrison, Cleaser. Number 23, Zach Otto, and number 30, Nick Smith. We should have a really good game today between the 10 and 5. Chargers and the 11 and 3 Walsh Cavaliers. Walsh Cavaliers did win the conference last year,

but both the Chargers and the Walsh Cavaliers are currently five and three in conference play. So we're really hoping for an exciting match. And at home, Hilsville definitely is the advantage of the atmosphere. But the stats-wise, shooting-wise, Walsh seems to have some of the advantages. So it could be a really interesting game here as we're going to go to a short break as we go to the National Anthem. Hello and welcome to special broadcast on Charger Basketball. Walsh has won the tip against the Hillsdale Chargers. We're watching men's basketball.

They're going to pass it out of bounds, though, really early. Giving the possession back to Hillsdale, it's 0-0 with 20 minutes left. Still in the first half as we've just begun the game. Ashton Janikowski, going to take the ball up a little bit. Walsh is in a press and his own press, kind of light press. Hillsdale does break it, gets across half. Moving around with Ashton Janikowski, she's going to pass it down to C.J. Yarian, down in the post with 610 sophomore.

Hit it up on top of their best player, Joe Ruter, least our highest point score. One of the best athletes. As unfortunately, C.J. Earing is going to pass out of bounds one step in front of his intended target. Giving Walsh, a basketball. Really early here, we're going to need to see Hillsdale shutdown number zero or number one, Kobe Mitchell.

at Kobe Mitchell. It's where they can get something going really early. You seem to be trying to create space for him. I'm going to give him some opportunities to go one-on-one if he wants. He's going to pass it off to number 21. Hale Beezer. 21 is going to dribble down. Back out to Kobe and Kobe Mitchell with the three.

A little bit of a fadeaway there. Great shot by Kobe Mitchell. Those are going to definitely need to limit that later on as we go. Ball's up to Sanoosu. Around the arc. Ashton Janna Cowsy's going to shoot a three. And it's going to take a long rebound, but bounce out to Kobe Mitchell. Joe, passing down to number 23.

Zach Otto. And Zach Odo gets blocked by C.J. Arian. Rebound. Charles Woodhams. He's going to take it down. They're going to set up the offense here in the side. Getting the ball. The big man in the paint.

C.J. Arian, back out to Woodham's. Whatims for three and it hits off the backboard. Not a shot, but Woodham's wanted it. Walsh is going to go down. And in a fast break, hit number 14, Column Hale, and he's going to make the layup. Open up Walsh to an early 7-0 lead. Not something that Hillsdale is going to want.

Yeah, Walsh getting some work in early here. So what are some points of emphasis that you see down the stretch for Hillsdale? Because they're both good teams. But what are some points of emphasis that you see already developing where Hillsdale needs to improve? Definitely need to limit Kobe Mitchell, the sophomore transfer from University of Akron. He's their best player. And as of right now, I think he has touched the ball on every position for sure. And I think he has all their points and or assists so far.

I think he has both assists, the other two is shooting. Yeah, Walsh is going to go to Mitchell early, obviously early, and they're going to keep going to often throughout this game. so make him tired, make his job hard. No easy passing lanes, no easy dribbling lanes, so it's going to get out of this short timeout, as Hillsdale has already called a timeout. So early in this game, because they are down 7 to 0 against Walsh.

Walsh, continuing to apply some light pressure. Hillstall not super worried about it. They're not super worried about it for Hillsdale. They've once again beaten it easily and stuff the offense. Joder on top of the key. Passing out to, back out to Jol's. Rooder. Ashton Janakowski on the top. The Su is going to dribble around a little bit.

Kedayarian, get the ball at the top of the key. Ashton Danakowski dribbling in. Four seconds on the shot clock and Janakowski takes a fadeaway jumper and misses. Cavalier rebound. Number 21 on Walsh with the ball. Fadeaway shot, but it's going to miss it. I was Garrison Heasler. Mikey McComb is in the game for the Chargers. number 21, freshman.

They're passed out to Joe Ruder. Joe Ruehers going to dribble in and get blocked. Blocked by number 30. Nick Smith forward. Hillsdale does maintain the possession, though. Only eight seconds left in the shock clock. Counting down, when he hit the ball in the hands of Ruder. We were going to try to make something happen.

With pressure in his face and misses the shot, just rolls around there. Hard shot, but with the shot clock, counting down, I mean, that wasn't the worst shot you can take, right? No, certainly not. I mean, you got to take a shot eventually, right? As Nick Smith puts two more on the board for Walsh. Walsh taking a 9-0 lead here. On the whole, Walsh's doing a very good job of disallowing Hillsdale to take easy shots.

They have some shooters, so that must have come up on film. There's been a lot of pressure, though. Nothing outside, even the outside of the arc, the three-pointers. As Mikey McCollum is going to shoot three. Finally, open up the scoring for Hilsdale with a three-pointer. It is now 3 to 9 Hillsdale, 3 to 9 Walsh lead, excuse me, with 15 minutes and 20 seconds left on the game clock. Walsh going to get the hands back in the ball. Kobe Mitchell out to number 23, Zach Odo.

Otto dribbling on a little bit. Giving it out to Garrison. Garrison Kiesler, getting it in, taking a little fadeaway jumper, short shot, and he makes it. 11 to 3 Walsh lead So then on the other side of the court Walsh has done a very good job of creating open shots They have had a few fast breaks right there We just saw the fade away from number 21

Today we talk about the first night game played in the MLB. In 1935, the Cincinnati Reds were a struggling team.

They could hardly draw a crowd, averaging about 2,000 fans per game. The idea was presented to bring lights to see. Cincinnati's Crawley Field in attempt to bring more fans to the game. They thought that bringing in these lights would help the games to be played in the evening or at night so that people could come when they were off work. On May 24, 1935, a crowd of 20,422 fans gathered to watch the game between the Reds and the Phillies. From Washington, D.C., Franklin D. Roosevelt flipped the ceremonial switch, and lights turned on in Cincinnati, and the game was played. The Reds beat the Phillies two to one that night,

and later in 1935, seven more night games were held in Cincinnati. Night games were later expanded to other teams in other cities. This has been the old ballgame on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Walsh Cavaliers, currently just two for two on three point, or one for one on three pointers, shooting technically 100%, but on just one shot. As Hillsdale's one for four, and one for nine,

on field goes overall when Walsh is five for seven. Walsh making a lot more easier shots because they're just generating better offense. Walsh is going to take the basketball out to start after this media timeout, getting the ball to number 14. It just trimmed in. Colin McHale back out to their best player, Kobe Mitchell. Kobe Mitchell is going to charge into Mikey McCollum. Great job by drawing the charge of Mikey McCollum, a freshman.

That's a great play right there. I mean, getting the other team's best player a foul and taking away his points on an offensive session. That's a gutsy play right there from a freshman, but draws the foul and Hillsdale gets the ball back. Yeah, Hillsdale is going to pass it up to number 11. Cole McQuinnie who's checked in. Recently, Caleb Glazer also in the game now for the Chargers. They're going to pass it back out to Col McKinney. out to Joe Luter on the side, but only five seconds left.

There's a shot loss counting down. Mikey McComb takes a deep three and he misses. Now let me be one of those kind of rushed shots. They didn't really have any openings there for the Chargers. As Walls, she's going to pass down. And then turn it over to Mikey McCollum with the steel tipped by possibly Charles Woodham's, I think. Found Akiel Glazer on the offensive end for the Chargers.

He's going to try to make something having down in the paint. And he shoots a little fadeaway, but it missed. Not a bad shot, though, right there. Nope, using his size down low. Gets up a little bit of a hook shot, just rolled in and out. Yes. Hilsdale is in-man defense. Up number 14 as a ball.

Call on McHale. Michael dribbling around a little bit out to Garrison Pleaser. So they're going to call a foul on the floor against Charles Woodham's. One thing we've seen developing a little bit, too, is Hillsdills. time of possession. I mean, I feel like they've been under 10 seconds on the shot clock almost every time they've been on that side of the court, right? Yeah, but that's partially because they're not generating any offense.

Exactly. So, yeah, like we said already, Walsh just not letting Hillsdale take the open shot. No. And not even letting them get a lot. I don't know if there's not a lot of off ball movement for Hillsdale or if Walsh is just covering it really well, but something no opening's even offball here

for Hillsdale. They're going to get the ball out. Number 11, Aidan Satterfield. It's Wall. She's still at 11 to 3 with 12 minutes and 50 seconds left in the first half. And a foul. This time is going to be on Kiel Blazer of Hillsdale. Team second foul, his first foul.

Still really early in this basketball game, though. Although Hillsdale is down 11 to 3, definitely a lot of lot of time for some adjustments and for just some shots to fall for that way. Absolutely. There's a lot of time to make adjustments, get some momentum going your way. Plus Hillstale's got home court advantage, right? Yeah, the crowd's going to have to get into this one pretty soon here. That's number one 21. 23.

Zach Odo takes a shot on Caleb Glazer, and he's going to make it. He can get 13 to 3 for the Walsh Cavaliers. Samo of Sue, Chulma Quinnney. Hoseill, moving the ball around a little bit to the ball, and the highest point score at Joe. Rooters, he's going to shoot a three, and he's going to miss. I mean, the openings have been far and few between. There was an opening, but you know, you're not going to make every shot.

But now looking good for them as Humber 11 on the other side, Aden Satterfield makes the three-pointer. Walsh is just feeding off each other now. They're making shots left and right. Big men using their size really well down in the paint, and then the guards making it happen out wide. As we're going to go to a short video timeout, you'll see to 1.1.7 effect. ready for aelstone.

They're taking on the Walsh Cavaliers. Walsh Cavaliers currently on an early lead to Hillsdale, 16 to 3 with 11 minutes and 54 seconds left. In the first half as we come out of our second media timeout. Hillsdale, another chance to talk it over, maybe make some adjustments. Check some new guys in as Garrett Bullsie is going to get into the game here for the Chargers. Walsh is making a light press, but that hasn't seemed to have any effect in the game. It's really just Walsh. creating open shots on defense and playing tight defense inside of the yard

going to get the ball up to number 35 Eric Redzikovic he's going to be fouled by the walsh cavaliers the foul is on number 23 Zach Odo his first team second this hill still is going to get the ball back out of bounds for the Chargers with 20 seconds left reset in the shot clock taking on the baseline Hilslow sets up in a diamond-type formation to beat this man in defense. So not finding any opening. He's just going to have to toss it out to Sam the Sioux. Up to Ashton Janikowski.

Heelsso sets up the offense, getting it out to Erichritsnikovic outside the paint. Air Bolton makes a nice move, but Walsh crashes down on him, kicks it out to San Luis. Six seconds left on the shot clock as Wittam's has the ball. Two seconds left in the shot clock, Wendom's making it illogical shot. is the shot clock is going to hit zero because the ball does not hit the rim. Another great defensive stand by the Walsh Cavaliers, making it really tough for this Chargers team to get open shots.

Absolutely, yeah. And we've, I mean, we've said it before that obviously Walsh just is making it tough for Hillsdale to take open shots. The only way to fix that is, as Hillsdale, is just take the open shots when they come. Yeah, number one, Kobe Mitchell is going to take another, two-point shot and make it a very long two-pointer. I think he might have thought

he was outside the arc, but definitely that foot was on the line. He does make the shot, so the points still count us. Walsh is now leading Hillsdale 18 to 3 early in this ball game. Hils still going to need to start making this up early. You're not want to get in too big of a hole against the

reigning GMAC champions for Walsh Cavaliers. So again, pass it out to number 24, Garrett Bolton. Up to Ashtonikowski with two seconds left in the shot clock. Assygenikowski does put up a shot, hits the rim. Rizikovic, with the rebound, Rizikovic's going to put it up and get fouled. So he's going to be shooting two shots here,

an opportunity for Hillsdale to get their second bucket of the game. Maybe something they need a little bit of momentum, even in just these free throws. Two very important free throws here. This game, not to get out of reach too early. Sometimes that's how you work your way back in, right? You just take what the other team gives you, take the easy stuff as he misses the first one.

Yeah, Ritzikovic, the 6-9 senior out of Brookfield, Wisconsin. Currently shooting, let's see, he's shooting, has not shot a free throw yet this season, so that's his first, and he makes the second to get Hillsdale another point. He is now one for two on free throws this game and for the season. So there's first two free throws this season. While speeding the press of Hillsdale, setting up the offense, though,

Hilsel doesn't allow the easy basket. Making himself the offense. The ball's going to go to number 30. Nick Smith. Back after number one, Kobe Mitchell, hands of their best player. As now, Nick Smith has the size advantage in the paint. But Charles Woodham's with some great help defense,

making it tough shots. And he misses the shot because of such great defense. Ashton Janakowski with the ball. And Hilslow's offensive side, dribbling around a little bit. That's down to Garrett Bullty. down to Zykovic who takes shot, hook shot, but he does not fall. He does have a size advantage down in that paint on the offensive and defensive end, but not very helpful to him there.

Nick Smith is going to get the ball down in the paint on Rzikovic, but we're going to make an illogical pass down to intercepted by Samo Vasu. Hillsdale. Now with the ball on the offensive end, out to Samo of the Sue. Ashtonikowski. They're both. He passing the ball around, really just trying to get anything going here. Is there going to be a foul on number 30, Nick Smith? Second foul.

Sorry, first foul of the game for Nick Smith. Fourth foul for the team. There's a chance that Hillsdale gets in the bonus this half, at least. Yeah, yeah. And that's obviously going to be helpful, considering Walsh is doing a very good job of shutting them down on the court you might as well take what they can give you foul wise yes yes they're going to play great defense make them foul at least make them

exactly get them in some trouble maybe later maybe something that had to worry about but right now just just get some get some shots up still down 18 to 4 it will he'll still is is joker's going to shoot a three and it's going to rim out hit both the inside of both sides of the rim and then fall out of the basket I like that shot though you know it's uh it it was contested a little bit but you might as well to get something up you know nothing's working get some shots up and see what goes in yeah is the erin is going to get the steal on nick smith hills still now on offense because erian has the ball at the top of the key maybe not where he wants it such a guy with such big size advantage here they really make it hard for him

good little bit of momentum shift at least here crowd starting to get into it a little bit more and it's Kobe Mitchell and I have the ball at the top of the key with only six seconds left on the shot clock put up a wow what a layup by Kobe Smith now 20 to 6 Walsh lead it's just a a great shot time bearing down in the shock block and he makes a great dribble if Mikey McComb is going to shoot the three and unfortunately it's going to rim out there though by McCollum

But in good news this week, which is not what this broadcast is about, but something that I think we need to talk about

is that the Lions won a playoff game. Absolutely. Lions, they won again. Lions won again. when when something happens for the first time in 32 years you're allowed to talk about it as much as you want it's historic i was not alive the last time they won a playoff game i am that young people so waltz going to get the ball out and unfortunately hillsdale losing right now but big win for the alliance this week absolutely so they're going to get the ball out garrison pizer up to square square is going to shoot the three and make it. I think that, yes, Walsh is 3 for 3 at 3 pointers, and Hillsdale is 1 for 7

shooting. Big difference in this game. Of course, a couple of those for Hillsdale were contested. The Walsh ones were all open, but still a big difference in shooting there is there's going to be an off ball foul at number 2, Milan Square. Hillsdale, getting the ball under the basket once again.

Another foul there from from Walsh's the fouls are 5 to 2 in Hillsdale's favor so the score might not be in their favor but at least the fouls are they're not doing everything there's some things that are going their way for sure and like we've already said foul shots are going to be

foul shots are going to be you know crucial for Hillsdale they're not going to catch up on foul shots but if they can take them they need they need to because obviously the field goal differential right here is ice blums is dribble it down missed a shot. Cavalers get the rebound and number 14. Colin McAil. He makes the basket,

excuse me, number one, Kobe Mitchell makes the basket and gets the and one foul on Cole McQuinnie number 11 of Hillsdale. So Walsh is now 11 for 15 from the field. Hillsdale is two for 19. That's a big difference. I mean, yes, the shot selection is definitely also very different. Absolutely. We've talked about that. I mean, Walsh is just shooting better today. Sometimes that will happen in basketball. Some teams just shoot better. That's why there's seven games in a basketball series.

As Walsh leads Hillsdale 26 to 6. And probably what might be Hillsdale's biggest deficit of the season. At least it's got to be up there. Definitely the least amount of points we'd have at this point in the game. Looking for some new offense. Cuomo Quinn is going to shoot a three and unfortunately missed the shot. ball's dribbled up passed off to number one

Kobe Mitchell which there's going to be another foul this time on on a off ball screen by number 21 Garrison Peter his second foul of the game and the team sixth Hillsdale I believe one more foul on Hillsdale

is in the bonus seven right in knowledge basketball I believe so I'm pretty sure it's seven although I'm not positive on that don't quote me on that Cole McQueenie dribbling the ball up this is going to set up the offense trying to get a lot of offball movement here you can tell trying to change things up a little bit so you then get something new going that was still very young on the court right now a couple freshmen out

there just the one senior i believe in woodham's as ruder's going to dribbled in and make a basket joe ruder finally finally starting to get going finally taking into the hole he shot a lot of threes today unfortunately although as good of a three three point shooter as he is it's not connected but good to see him finally get his points today as walsh is going to be dribbling the ball around with milan square passing out to number 23 Zach otto odo picking on killed glazer glazer playing some night defense missed the shot but otto's going to get his own rebound pass it off to number 14 Colin macaille and macaille makes the layup bringing the score 28 to eight with four minutes left in this first half

When shots aren't falling, the one thing you need to do is get more shots up, right? So for the other team to have three offensive rebounds is not ideal. No, and then number 21 of Hillsdale. Mikey McCollum, the freshman, going to hit a three-pointer, bringing the lead down from to 28 to 11 now. And some momentum is this crowd starting to get into the game once again, as there's going to be a foul on the floor on Cole McQuinnie. His second is he's going to be a foul on the floor on Cole McQuinnney. second is he's going to check out of the game from that foul. Ashton Janakowski,

checking back in. Number two with the ball. Passing in, Nolan Square for the Cavaliers. Passed in to Kobe Mitchell. Their ball handler, their guy who usually is the ball. Hillsdale has a slow start, probably their slow start of the season. Hillsdale does have the ball, though, have position right now. As well, just getting back into that little bit of a light press, although Hillsdale has had no trouble with as of yet.

Hasn't been the price. It's just been the perimeter defense, the defense in their own half. Hillsville has had a trouble getting good shots off on. Ashton Jukowski, giving it up to Joe Ruder. out to McComb, McComb, out to go out to Glaser. Hillsdale trying to move the ball around, trying to get somebody open.

There's eight seconds left in the shot clock. Joe Ruer is going to shoot another three and miss. Ball, out of bounds, off the rebound. It's going to be Walsh basketball. Definitely, Ruder really trying to get himself going in the first point shots. You can see some of the frustration from the Hillsdale players, but it's just one of those nights. Yeah, Hillsdale has 11 points. Joe Ruder, their highest points to do. usually has two. Their second highest point score, Wadams has none. And Mikey McCollum, the freshman, has eight points,

eight of the 11 points, playing a great game himself, although not a great team game so far for Hillstill. Definitely they would like to be playing better right now as the foul is going to be on number one, Keel Blazer. His second, he's going to check out of the basketball game. And hopefully, like you said, we mentioned at the end of the last half, the last four minutes that they had were ended, ended, ended rough. I think they scored more in those four minutes, though, offensively, and they had the first 16 minutes combined. Mikey McCollum, the freshman leading the team with 10 points, not their usual points. And like we were saying, I didn't mean to cut you off, but like we were saying, at least Hillsdale went into the half knowing exactly what was going wrong. You know, they're just mission shots. And the only way to do that is get more shots up.

Shot creation has been a big thing. And, I mean, Hillsdale, they're fixable problems. They're just going to have to get more shots up this half and hope they fall. Walsh missed the shot on that position. Hillsdale got the rebound. Now moving the ball around a little bit, trying to get something going. Once again, offensively like they did at the end of that second half, against this tight Cavaliers defense.

Joe Ruter with another three-pointer trying to get going and it rims out. That was a great in-rhythm shot though there by Router. Sometimes, you know, not going to make every shot, but I like that shot selection right there from Router, trying to get himself going outside of three points. We keep seeing little glimmers of hope here for the Chargers. Hoping something will come up this momentum-wise. Yes, and now Garrison Kieslar, Walsh's second-leaning score has three fouls as well. In 2023, three, three, three showers will fill the month. First come the Torids, streaming from the direction of Taurus in the south and east, peaking November 12th. Next are the spectacular Leonids appearing from the direction of Leo in the north and east, peaking November 18th. And the finale, a second Orionids, radiating from the direction of Orion in the south and east and peaking November 28th.

Remember that meteors can be seen for weeks before and after peak dates, so on any clear November night, bundle up and scan the state. for these dazzling astronomical lights. Heldell had us a little bit more momentum going here,

been able to keep it close. But here is where they need a run. They really need a run and they need it soon in order to get back into this basketball game and make it truly, truly competitive at the end of the game. Walsh back into that light pressure. Hillslow had no problem breaking. Very light pressure.

You know, as they break it, and those are just going to get stuff in the offense. Oh, that's a Vesu. That's a gariboulti who's checked in for the chargers. Hesu. Taking a little bit of the dribble. Out to Rizikovic. Zikovic.

There's a size advantage down in the pain. Jackson Janikosky dribbles in and he's going to make the layups to bring the game within 13 those still back in that 2-3 defense which Walsh has not been able to figure out as of yet even those high hands

making it really hard for Walsh to get the ball in the middle and finally do with Jack Odo get it back out and they missed the three-pointer but rebound Odo that is the one unfortunate thing about the two-three is that sometimes because you're not man-on-man not every guy

is going to have a man on him to box out. So Zach Otto able to get the rebound and finish it. Extending their lead, once again, Walsh's lead to 15. An offensive rebound like that this late in the game hurts, obviously. Especially when they get to score off of it. Right. Yeah, any second chance points are devastating to Hillsdale. Hillsdale is going to get into a one-three-one defense now.

Different kind of zone. Maybe settling back into that 2-3. Looks like a two three now. It looks really quickly there for the one three one. Everybody is going to get backs out this time. And Ritzikovic is going to grab the rebound off of Walser's three point. Pass out to Ashton Janakowski. Down of his two is.

awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor. Here's Jenna Suhita. On October 29th, 1944, Private George Socato and his platoon were attempting to take Hill 617 near Biffington, France, when Socato spotted

German machine guns at the top of the hill. He alerted his unit, but the machine guns began firing. His unit was pinned down, and his friend standing nearby was hit. Soccato was filled with anger as his friend died in his arms. He began a one-man charge up the hill, killing 12 enemy soldiers. His courageous charge inspired his platoon members to follow him up the hill. Soccato took charge when his squad leader was killed,

and under his direction, the platoon captured 34 soldiers and took the hill. By continuously ignoring enemy fire, Sakato turned impending defeat into victory and helped his platoon complete its mission. For his extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty on the morning of October 29th, 1944, Private George Sicado was awarded the Medal of Honor. and you're able to grab the rebound Gakowski with the ball Hillsdale got to get some quick offense here down 14 points don't have to force shots not yet but I get some quick shots is Woodham's is going to do just that dribbling in and getting a layup

and so the outside shots haven't seemed to be working for Hillsdale so far tonight but they've had a couple really nice, they've had players make some really nice drives pretty consistently throughout the night. Vesu and then the leading score Mike and McCollum Woodham's there

so it looks like that might have been the strategy here for the Chargers yeah definitely the dribble drive has been working for them and a three-pointer has not. I've only shot 23% in three. And the Erian is going to get a block. Now he's going to triple down the court, trying to go with some speed. Kick it out to Samo of Asu, though.
