Athens, Georgia, home to the University of Georgia, has a unique indie rock style. Only an hour and a half away from Atlanta, the vibrancy of Atlanta's southern rock genre influences Athens' music scene. B-52s made their debuts around the college town. The 40 Watt Club has hosted Nirvana and Snoop Dog, and it only has a 500-person capacity. The Georgia Theater has hosted the Dave Matthews band, which is used with classic rock, blues, jazz, and world music. UGA's Hodges School of Music has a nationally ranked singer-songwriter program, which is where Megan Maroney, a top country singer-grapher graduated.
