Starting point is 00:00:07 Hi, all. Welcome back to the social skinny. We're so excited to be back. I have some really fun things I want to talk about today. I don't know about you. I feel like just a lot has been going on in the world of pop culture these days. And I'm excited to talk about it. I feel like we have some stuff that it's relevant, but it's also sort of evergreen. Like it's been ongoing. But I think what we have planned for today's podcast kind of keeps in the theme of like spring break vacation kind of vibes. Yes, because spring break is coming up for us. We are, we're going to Texas next week. Going to Austin and then going to Fort Worth, but it should be fun. It should be a good time. I'm excited. Yeah, it'll be super fun. I'm excited to show Cam's coming and another one of our friends, Audrey, is coming too.
Starting point is 00:00:56 So, yeah, it'll be fun to get to show them around. Yeah. And speaking of trips, like you said, today's podcast is sort of all in that. breath. Have you heard much about the tripping with tart trip to Bora Bora? No, because unfortunately, even though the whole purpose of our podcast is that we keep up with social media, I actually did give up TikTok for Lent and I have succeeded this far. So I'm a little behind on some of those things. And in general, I don't feel like I keep up with that exact vein of social media that you do sometimes. Yeah, so valid. I think just to give everyone a little back,
Starting point is 00:01:37 backstory, you know, pre-COVID, even, I feel like this was a big 2016 era thing. Yeah, it's giving when we talked about how like the beach was, like, not that it's not trendy, like the beach is always fun, but like, yeah, everyone wanted to go stay in those like little overwater bungalows. Yes, yes, yes. So all of that stuff was a really big deal. And back, like I said, pre-COVID, so like 2015 through 2019, those years, big. big brands would take influencers and different social media personalities on these big trips,
Starting point is 00:02:14 whether it was Bora Bora. I know there was a trip to Fiji that a brand took people on. I was one. Where? Wait, is that my trip in? I feel like Molly was one. Molly? Like M-A-L-I.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Oh, maybe. I didn't hear about that one. Or is that in Africa? I don't know. You should look that up while I talk. No, Molly is. Molly is 1,000% in West Africa. What am I thinking of?
Starting point is 00:02:43 The Maldives? So yeah, not Molly. The Maldives. No, yeah. So yeah, they were taking, and it was always usually these, like, beauty brands. Yeah, I feel like Tart is a big one. That's the one that I definitely, I've like seen stuff from that before. Hashtag Tripping with Tart, like their whole thing.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Also, benefit, I felt like always took people to Hawaii. Right. Like, and this was a good old days. I know. It was like, I fit and tart. So I haven't got anything from them in a hot minute, but. They always keep putting out new stuff. They're like Marikujia juicy lips.
Starting point is 00:03:17 I'm going to try one of those. I've used their Marikujia hair oil before. Is it nice? Yeah, I got it in like an Ipsy package whenever used to get those in like middle school. And it was good. Yeah. I mean, obviously didn't buy it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:28 So valid. As I was saying, you know, these trips, um, they spend hundreds of thousand dollars to take these influences on them for different marketing purposes. They'll have other brands. collab with them, uh, to provide different like swag that they're going to have in the rooms when the people arrive, stuff like that. And yeah, these trips used to basically just, we'd see them through YouTube. People would vlog the trips. They'd make videos because it's, you know, somewhat of a business deal. Like, oh, we pay for you to come on this trip. You're going to promote it and
Starting point is 00:03:56 post about it. Well, this chart, this tart trip, it's, I guess the second big influencer trip post-COVID. Like, they took people to Dubai. Do you remember? remember that? Sort of. Yeah. So that was probably like a year ago. They took a bunch of people to Dubai. That would be cool.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Flying first class, like staying in insanely fancy hotels. This was like Alex Earle was there. Like that sort of group. Well, they got a ton of backlash for that trip because people thought it was just so frivolous. I mean, there's always the theme of people thinking that influencers don't have real jobs and they don't deserve these lavish experiences, things like that. So people were really mad about Dubai. Well, Bora Bora comes along.
Starting point is 00:04:46 And basically, it was supposed to happen a hot minute ago, I think a couple months ago, but then there was a huge storm in Bora Bora, so it got rescheduled. So since it got rescheduled, it's just been constant drama on the internet. And everyone's saying, you should be taking, you know, teachers, nurses, normal people, you shouldn't be taking all these famous people to Borahora, but it's like, I just, like, marketing wise that just, sure, like, people might say, oh, that's great that you took normal people to Borbora, but you just, you can't tell companies what to do with their money. Right. And honestly, no one would give a crap if they, like, took a bunch of random, like, you know. Right. No, exactly.
Starting point is 00:05:25 That's just, it feels like it's just virtue signaling. And I hate when, like, little trolls in the comments, they can, like, bully big brands into, like, this is what you should be doing. It's like, oh, yeah, really? If you had the disposable income. come to go on a trip like that? Mm-hmm. Would you just be like, no, actually, someone else deserves it more? Right, right. And they, so they flew all the influencers out on private planes.
Starting point is 00:05:44 They had probably three or four private jets that brought groups of them in. A PJ. Yeah, a PJ, if you will. And they have them staying in the overwater bungalows. So each person could, like, bring a plus one. So there's usually two people. And you, I'm going to have to show you the videos of these rooms after this, since you're not on TikTok, decked. I can imagine. Tart makeup everywhere. They had luggage from bays, like wildflower cases, sent cases, like phone cases and tech accessories. There's just food galore stocked in the room,
Starting point is 00:06:22 clothes, pajamas. Who are like the main influencers? Who are there? Yeah, like the, if you know, top five that people would. Okay. Do you know O'Malley from Barstool Sports? Wait, that one, is she, she did that girl, she's on, redhead. She's on, um, Bree, Zach Bryan's girlfriend. People are going to flame me for referring to her as Zach Bryan's girlfriend because she was famous before him. I was going to say, are they the one they like have that podcast together sometimes? Mm-hmm. Bree was on the Theo Vaughn, right?
Starting point is 00:06:53 She might have been. Is O'Malley kind of got some like crazy? Yeah, yes. Crazy red hair. Yes, yes. Okay. Yeah. Wait, they didn't have Bree though?
Starting point is 00:07:02 She apparently was invited but turned it down. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I didn't know Bree and Zach Brian were dating. Mm-hmm. Ooh. Yeah. I don't think I like that.
Starting point is 00:07:10 I think they're kind of cute. They're kind of silly. You'd have to look. I think they're cute. It gives like, it. I think I like it because it's just like, wow, she's kind of normal and she's dating Zach Bryan. Like, that's cool. Yeah, that's fair.
Starting point is 00:07:25 So there's that. She's there. Allison Cooch. Cooch. Coach, I don't know, is it your name? I have never heard of her. She's dating, or she's married to Isaac Rochelle, the NFL player. She's there.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Or no, they didn't go because they got sick, but they were supposed to be there. Don't you feel like, I feel like honest? I mean, granted, I was never sort of like in the whole wag world. I think you were probably more knowledgeable about that. But from, quote, unquote, an outsider experience, would you agree that since Taylor Swift started dating Travis Kelsey and Alex Earl started dating, started dating whatever. Yeah, dude on the dolphins.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Yeah. Dude on the dolphins. NFL man. She's more famous than him. Yeah. I feel like it's sort of indirectly like elevated the status of other. Like normally, not that they wouldn't have been famous and maybe they'd have smaller brand deals, but they would have not on their own merit gone on a hashtag
Starting point is 00:08:24 tripping with heart excursion. No, never in a million years. So they were invited. They didn't go. Emily Kaiser, I know you don't, I would be talked about this. You don't know who she is. Avery Woods is there. Not a clue.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Do you know Vidya? I think that's how you say her name. She's the one. They're the sweet Indian family. She has the two kids that are always doing Kumon. Yes, I do you know, Vidya. Yeah. Don't make your kids do Kumon, guys.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Yeah, so she's there. That's, yeah. I mean, like, love that. Like, I like watching their content, but that's like, I feel like when we were younger, all of, like, tart trips, it was, like, the typical, like, Alicia Marie, you know, Miss Ramay Ashton. Who else was in that? Meredith Foster. My wife is Yava.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Yeah. Yeah. So that's who was, there was Remy and then there was like, well Remy and Alicia were the ones that were friends. Yeah, but there was another, there was other girls in that group. It doesn't really matter, but it's going to drive me crazy. Yeah. If you think of it, just shut it out. But that's people's issue with this too, is they're like, okay, normally in the past,
Starting point is 00:09:30 these trips are four like beauty influencers. Like you bring people on here. or who their content revolves a lot more around makeup and all these things. And then not that someone like, you know, Vidya and her family, I feel horrible if I'm saying her name wrong. I've actually never heard anyone say it. But like she's not a beauty influencer. She's obviously like more on like the mom influencer world.
Starting point is 00:09:53 So people are kind of mad about even though people like her, but people are like, okay, none of these people even do beauty or like, and people are really happy that O'Malley's there because like she's funny and relatable so everyone likes that but also like on the same side of the coin she doesn't do beauty content literally at all i feel like that has to do with like the shift in marketing from youtube to tic talks since tic talks now it's like you know get ready with me get and ready with me but it's not like a like a makeup tutorial it's like very sort of unedited people want that and like brands where it's like everything's sort of not unserious but like not serious you know yeah yeah and so like I said it's just been a lot of drama
Starting point is 00:10:35 who's invited who wasn't invited all the people that were invited but had to decline for some reason or you know hopped on the internet saying oh well I was invited on the trip like I'm supposed to be there this and that so it's sort of becoming like a status thing whether or not you were invited and I've seen like do you know cecily she's also another mom who does stuff she's married to um a guy who's a pastor and they have four kids. Wait, maybe I have seen, like, our routine to get ready for whatever as a past, okay, I think I've seen. Maybe I don't, like, follow her a lot, but yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:07 She's pretty famous, too, and, like, she wasn't invited, but she's good friends with a lot of, like, the moms who were invited, and people are in the comments being, like, you should have been there, like, we love you more because you weren't invited, stuff like that. So it's, like, it's honestly just people caring about a lot of things that they shouldn't care about, you know what I mean? and I mean I think it's fun to watch the trips to be honest like to see the crazy things that they're doing and the rooms that they get oh like do you know Hallie she's in she lives in New York
Starting point is 00:11:39 she's honestly our age I don't know she's blonde I feel like since she's there started since it's not like you subscribe necessarily it's more the free page I like recognize people for their niche or like their look but like names I'm lost so valid um so yeah there's so much drama with all of it and I just think I don't know this is kind of an annoying thing to say but and I'm it might sound like I'm coming from place of where I think I'm better than other people I don't but I just sort of see it as there's bigger things to be worried about yeah than 20 influencers and their significant others on a three day trip to borobora like they're literally there for three days and it just like people have no idea you don't know who was invited and who said no or you know
Starting point is 00:12:24 Yeah, and a lot of these people prior to being influencers, like, did not have easy lives. They've been able to, like, make a brand for themselves, and that's really cool. And just regardless, even if you're born a silver spoon in your mouth, like, don't be a troll who tells people what, like, what they do and do not deserve. Exactly. I just, yeah, I hate the assumption that, like, and like you said, whether or not you have always been well off or if you are now because of this influencer job, it's like, it shouldn't matter. it's a cool opportunity and if any of us were asked, you know everyone would say yes. Yeah, I was going to say, like, random, like, trolls in the comments, like, okay, you're offered that? Are you going to give up your spot for a elementary school teacher or nurse?
Starting point is 00:13:06 I'll hold you to that. Right. I know. I mean, and of course, they're never going to be held to that because none of those people are ever going to be invited. But Tart's actually giving away a trip to Borobora, like a similar, so a fan can win now, and it's going to be a similar trip in the sense, like, the room's going to be decked out the same. Yeah, it's going to be a whole thing, you know. Gotcha. Yeah. So we'll see who wins. I'd love to win.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I mean, I'm not going to enter. I don't enter contests, but sounds amazing. I mean, obviously, I've never been to Borbora, but like from what I've seen, it seems almost so, like, I feel like it might be almost weird to go because it seems like it's so vacationized. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. It almost seems man-made. Right. I was going to say, I know I was telling you about Seaside the other day, and Seaside is beautiful. but like in the sense where whenever my family and I would go, it feels like it's me and everybody I went to school with all going to the same place for vacate. So it's like it doesn't really feel like you're getting away from anything.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Yeah, no, I totally get it. Just a reminder that you were listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Yeah, so these influencer trips are, as we've been saying, just up for a lot of debate on what people think. I as I've said I don't really care I think it's kind of funny but by the opportunity to go I'd take it are there any just like one last question I know you said a lot of um like the trolls in the comments have opinions is there any sort of like are influencers making like videos talking about it like do they have opinions or is it just sort of like a random schmuck kind of thing um it's I would say it's mostly just random schmucks because especially all the people who are there are some of the
Starting point is 00:14:50 people on the internet right now. So they're not hopping on to say, oh, I am on this trip, but I feel really guilty about it because it should be other people. They're like, get ready with me to go to Bora Bora. I was going to say that they're literally, they're working. Yeah, yeah. I think some, I've seen some like smaller, more niche people comment on it, but of course it's people who aren't invited.
Starting point is 00:15:13 And a lot of what I've seen from them is kind of like, okay, this is, like, there's a girl and she goes to Indiana University. I think she's a senior. She's a decently popular influencer. Like she's a platform and she was talking about, her name's Brooke and she was talking about it and saying like, hey, I'm in marketing in college and it makes a lot of sense. Like people should stop hating on Tart. Like it's an investment.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Like it makes sense what they're doing. Honestly, I think people are just getting really dumb or something because I look, I feel like that goes without saying like no hate to Brooke, but I feel like I do not need Brooke the marketing major to explain to me why Tart having celebrities wrecked brand is like like right that just makes me right we have really drunk the stupid juice yeah no agreed that's actually terrifying yeah and so it's a lot you know most people are just if they're there they're posting get ready with me to go to dinner with tart and using all the tart products because that was the issue with the Dubai trip is on the Dubai trip no one used tart products that was I guess I forgot that
Starting point is 00:16:12 earlier that was kind of the drama so this time I think Tart kind of learned their lesson and maybe they included it in the contract like hey if you come you need to you need to you need do use exclusively tart products, but I don't know. Especially when so many tart products these days are similar to other. Like they have those contour wands and blush wands that are like the Charlotte Hilbert. Yeah. Everything's, yeah, I feel like everything's sort of kind of a dupe for, you know, like brands that aren't doped brands have doaps for. Yeah, what even is a dupe these days?
Starting point is 00:16:41 I know. I think it's everybody just trying to like create the same product if it's trendy. Yeah, topic for next week. We'll talk about dupes. Seriously. Let's see. Start. So as I've been on my TikTok hiatus, I have been still watching Instagram reels from time to time. Yes. And recently, I think I've sent you some of her, I have discovered Miss Peaches. Oh, yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool, has adopted the cutest little pit bull ever. Good for Dave. I think only about a week ago. That's how all the account is. Oh, I didn't realize he has an account for her. Yeah, that's what all that's on. Oh. The account is, the tag is Famous Miss Peaches. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:23 I think he named her because she's from Atlanta, Georgia, so I think he got his peaches down in Georgia. But it's actually the most wholesome thing ever because Dave Portnoyneau is kind of like controversial. I mean, I think he's fine. I like him. But obviously a lot of people, you know, they have their thoughts.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Yeah. And so Peaches has been really humanizing, I think for him. And it's really adorable. It actually makes me really sad because it makes me think that he probably like wants kids really bad. Oh, Port-Dade. He'll be like, well, I don't have kids, so I'm going to like spoil her. But he literally, it was some, you know, some shelter reached out to him and he went and got peaches. Felt bad though. He like grabbed her but like left her brother there. I would have taken them both. That felt really. I mean, not everyone can. Okay. But Dave Portnoy can. Okay. A dog's a big responsibility. Like maybe he just wasn't at the time where he wanted to have two. if he's never had a dog before like i don't have safe had dogs he seems like he's had dogs it's not it's not that hard okay if he's got people okay he's safe portnoy um but he makes all these videos with miss peaches and it's so sweet because i think she was in like a hoarding situation like forced breeding kind of
Starting point is 00:18:34 thing and so he's really she's living her best life he says that she goes from um what did he say what did he say i don't know nady we didn't say something like the pound of the penthouse but something Rags or riches. Basically. Yeah. And so he's getting her, you saw her go yard tote, or not her go yard tote. She's probably going to get a go yard toe before we know it. Yeah, he got her go yard bowls for eight grand. He said it was the worst eight grand he ever bought or ever spent. But then he said, don't tell Ms. Peaches that. That's actually so wholesome and sweet. Oh, I could saw. I could cry too. Okay. And he like brings her stuff from like Carbone. He's like, Miss Peaches, I wouldn't go to Carbone and not bring you anything. He's like, Miss Peaches, they send. They send. I. I could cry too. Okay. And he's like, Miss Peaches. They send. They. They send. They. They. They. They. They. They. They. this special for you and she just like gets all like she like rolls over on her back and like oh that's nice they deserve each other yeah she's sweet yeah i think she's like her ears kind of like they're like not like a little bit missing oh like not completely but it's like actually really sad um good for dave for looking beyond yeah and like seeing what's on the inside it was hilarious too because like some influencer was like talking about them he she's like Dave pornoi like I want to hate him and he
Starting point is 00:19:42 adopted the most unadoptable like ugly cute pit bull or whatever he literally like duet her and he's like what do you mean ugly cute he's like you're ugly cute she's like he's like miss peach is he's like cute cute honestly though wrong delivery but she kind of has a point like when you're rich and like he could have gone to you know one of those like really unethical breeders and like gotten a name brand dog then this he could have spent thousands and thousands of dollars but he did he traveled across the country to go to a pound and get a pit, so like good for him actually. Like that's, that actually does say a lot about like his character and the type of person he is.
Starting point is 00:20:18 But the thing is though, if I was him, I also feel like that's sort of, it's insulting. Because it's like you, okay, so you assume because of my wealth that I would do something that other people, normal people wouldn't do. You know what I mean? A lot of people would assume that. I'm not saying that's right. Right. But I'm just saying I can see why it's like, oh, she's like, oh, wrong deliver. I can see why he's like, I don't have to entertain that at all.
Starting point is 00:20:37 You're just being rude. Yeah, no, she definitely was rude. Like she looks like the kind of person who would like freaking. only go to some like really horrible breeder you know um but yeah I don't know good for Dave yeah just some positive news from the internet yeah that's really sweet thanks for sharing yeah you should follow her famous miss Peaches I will I'll go follow her she's like actually the cutest thing ever and she gets so excited every time he like brings herself whenever he goes to a restaurant that's so nice good for peaches yeah she was scared of the stairs though and kept like kind of falling down them so all these like rug
Starting point is 00:21:07 companies were reaching out and saying we can like collab and like put a runner on your stairs for you Oh my goodness. Yeah. That's gracious. Yeah. Well, good for Dave. Because he recently had a breakup. So good for him.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Yeah, I was going to say, I think he, maybe his PR team was like, you lost that row. You need something else to humanize you and make, like, women hate you less. I mean, I don't hate him. And then Peaches came along. Right. Yeah. Good for Dave.
Starting point is 00:21:31 That would be horrible if it was like a PR move. Either way, Peaches is happy. Well, thanks so much for listening, guys. It's been a really fun episode. I've had fun, you know, talking about everything we did. and I'm excited for next week. I don't know about you. Thanks for listening to the Social Skinny here on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Starting point is 00:21:53 We'll see you next week. Bye all.
