Welcome to the World Outside on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM, where we explore fascinating events and culture in foreign countries.
Turn in your Atlas to the Isle of Man in the UK.
Locals used to speak a language called Max, but the last native speaker died in 1973.
So, how are there more than 50 native speakers today?
Before the original speakers died, concerned locals began making.
recordings of the language. Thanks to these recordings, residents of the Isle who grew up speaking
English learned Manx as a second language. Once they had kids, they began speaking only Manx at home,
raising a small but growing new generation of native speakers. That's all for now. I'm Jonathan
Taylor on The World Outside for Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Keep exploring God's fascinating world.
