Welcome to This, That and the Other.
On Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Where we chat about literally everything from movies to healthy recipes to the hottest of takes.
Starring Addie Seism and Chloe Pierce.
All right, Addy, I feel like we got lots of ground to cover today.
Yes, we do.
We have some hot takes on wedding preference songs.
Two movie reviews for you guys, some pop culture updates, along with a failed recipe this week.
This weekend, Addy and I went to a wedding in Sagatuck, Michigan.
It was my cousin's wedding.
It was so adorable.
Just a little bit about it.
Their colors were like...
Very elegant.
It was black tie.
Yeah.
It was so cute.
The ceremony was in like a greenhouse.
Like the sun was beaming in at like the most perfect angle.
So cute.
But while we were on the dance floor, we were thinking.
Okay.
Every wedding has like certain songs that they play.
Some are just like so good.
You're like, yes, let's get like an encore.
Some of them you're like next.
And instead we play the entire song.
So I feel like that was a problem we had this weekend where they play a good song and they'd play the chorus.
But then rather than continuing to another song, they would just play the entire song and people were losing steam.
So that got us thinking, you know, what is the ultimate wedding song?
Exactly. So we went ahead and asked ChatGBTGPT, what are the top 20 songs to play at a wedding? So we're going to go through those and we're going to give them a little ranking.
Yeah, an honest ranking. Exactly. So it might be a bit of a hot take, but let's start with this one. I want to dance with somebody by Whitney Houston.
We are starting off strong. Yeah. See, I feel like that. I mean, Whitney Houston is like the queen of me.
music to me and yes actually that song is so good yeah I'm looking at the next one that's
why I'm like okay but I want to dance with somebody I feel like if we're going like ABC D F I think so
F is bad A is good exactly I would give it I think I think I would put that in B only because I see
it in A okay I'm not going to lie yeah I just see some others that I think are
Classic.
Wait, do you only get one A or?
No.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Then that's, that's going to be on mine.
Okay.
Mine, maybe like B plus if we're doing that thing.
Okay.
Number two, you got us?
All right.
Number two, Dancing Queen by Abba.
Boo.
Yeah, see, that's just, that's not high for me.
No, we let the whole song play for no reason.
Yeah.
Like, oh.
It's just some furious.
This is the one from Mama Mia.
Yeah, yeah. Okay, I just feel like it's so overhyped. I've never seen Mamma Mia, but...
Oh, you're going to get hate for that. Yeah, I know. I know. That's a classic. But I'm just like,
ah, like, it plays. I sing one chorus. I'm like, okay, we're good. I think the chorus is when,
like, play that one time through and then hit us with a change because no one actually wants
to listen to the entire song. Exactly. And especially the guys. Like, I feel like that's such a
girly song that it's like let's give it like half yeah um yeah this might be like a d or an e for me
yeah i'll go i'll go d because i do like the chorus and like i think it is fun and joyful song
but dj's man come on we got to get it together on the song yeah no literally i think i'm i'm gonna give
it a d as well it's not the worst song i've heard at a wedding right i see one that is definitely
way down there stop stop speaking i'm sorry i'm so sorry but number three
Let's go ahead and do that one.
Yeah.
By usher.
Yeah.
Let me tell you.
That's an A.
Yeah.
That is an absolute banger of a wedding song.
It will never, it will never get old.
No.
It is a timeless masterpiece.
If you see people in your wedding sitting and not on the dance floor, you turn this on,
everybody's on the floor.
Exactly.
My mom is 60 years old and she was down to that song.
You can't turn it down.
It's great.
This is an A plus for me.
You have to have it.
No debate.
Yeah.
No.
Easy A.
Yep.
All right.
Number four, we got Mr. Brightside.
Okay, I'm going to get bashed, but I hate this song.
No, me too.
Thank God.
I'm so glad we agree on this.
I hate this song so much.
Like, I get it.
It's like, in some ways, I guess, sort of iconic just because it's like the song, but I'm so sick of the song that I'm going to give it a D.
Yeah, I'm going to give it a D.
I might go E.
I just, I don't like it.
It's overplayed and it's so long.
Don't like it.
Moving on.
No, agreed.
Okay, September.
Again. Just it, it doesn't, it doesn't sit well with me. I think literally I know the first, like, five words. And then after that, it's, I don't, I don't care to listen to it anymore.
Yeah. I'm, I think I'm kind of the same way. It makes me think of the movie trolls because they sing it in that. Of course it does.
Oh, that movie is so cute. But anyway, side note.
Yeah, I feel like that one is like, sometimes I'm okay with it. But that would be a song that I like wouldn't want them to play the entire song. Yep, exactly.
But like to get the old, not old people, but like. Ooh, boom, roasted. Yeah. Everyone that likes September, you have to be above 60.
Okay, yeah, I'm giving that a D. Sorry, everyone. I'll give it a C.
Okay, that's fair.
All right, number six.
Oh, sorry, I forgot I did last one.
Go ahead.
Number six, I got a feeling.
Black I P's.
See, I feel like this one you think would be hype, but like I'm thinking about the song in my head and it's kind of slow.
Yeah, I'm going to go see.
It's just, it's not horrible.
It's not like ultimate hype.
So it's kind of just there.
I don't mind it, but again, it's not on my A or B list.
Yeah, agreed.
I'll give it that too.
Okay.
Mary You by Bruno Mars.
This one is like an entrance song or like walking down the aisle instrumental with a violin song.
This is not a dance floor song.
So sorry.
I'm going to say as a song, classic, love it.
It would be an A on the dance floor.
I'm sorry it's got to be a D.
Yep.
I agree with that hand in hand.
Okay.
Perfect.
All right.
Eight, we got crazy in love.
I like that song.
I like it too.
Oh, yeah. Again, I think it's another one that probably doesn't have to be played all the way through because it gets pretty repetitive.
Yeah. But it's pretty good to boogie too. That's so cute. I get boogie too. I like that. Yeah, no, I would agree.
B. Yeah, a B plus. A B plus for a good chorus. Okay. Yeah. We just don't need the whole song. Yeah. Oh, gosh, this next one.
Shut up and dance. Why is this song, why has it become a wedding song? I was going to say, if I ever hear this out of it. I was going to say, if I ever hear this out of it.
wedding I might walk out. This makes me think of like eighth grade for some reasons. I don't know why.
Like eighth grade semi. I love me some shut up and dance. Now I think I'm okay. Yes. Agreed.
Yeah. Maybe honestly. Yeah, I was going to say I. Okay, I'll go F because I'm also going to go F.
All right, but we're coming back. We got low by Flo Rida. Yes. Yes. Yes. Obviously. A plus, A plus.
Yes. Come on now. That. That.
It's a must, again.
You cannot have a wedding and not have that song.
Honestly, I feel like the key to a good song is like if your 60-year-old parents are getting down to it, as well as like your young teenagers who know the song as well, like that's when you know like you've made it.
It has that generational effect.
Like flow right up peaked at that song.
Agreed.
So easy.
Okay.
All right.
Next song, Uptown Funk.
Okay.
Well, if you tuned in last week to our episode, you would know our Bruno Mars craze with this song
in 2016. However, it is now 2026. And any wedding that is playing that in 202026, I feel as if you are a bit
outdated. I would agree. It feels like you're trying to be cool, but you don't know how. So you're
like, let's play this song. Yeah. You know, and I just think like this might be one we could probably
leave in 2016. It's not the worst wedding song. Yeah. But like, you know,
I think there's better ones that could agree take the place. Also like the put your pinky rings up to
the moon. Do you remember how much like controversy? Like no one could figure out what he was saying.
Do you remember that? Bruno Mars. Yeah. Like that specific line literally everyone was like,
what is he saying? Oh yeah, because everyone said he's saying the F word. What? Really?
Wait, what? I thought he did. I thought that was true. No, it's put your pinky rings up.
Oh, I thought you're saying uptown funk you up.
Oh. Well, I guess there's that too. But, okay, well.
So, artists, can we, like, pronounce yet our words more so that we can all sing along?
Or just, like, say things that are normal. Okay. Anyway, um, 12. Don't stop believing journey. I feel like,
this is another one that's like, uh, classic. Everyone's going to be, like, singing to it.
But, like, no one's about to be, like, jumping up and down, like, giving their nasty moves to this.
song, you know what I'm saying? So I'm going to give it a C. I'm probably going to go D. It's not really
my vibe. Yeah. The next one's even worse for me. Go ahead. Um, hey yeah. I don't even,
what is this? The one that's like, um, hey yeah. Oh yeah. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Uh-huh.
Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Heard enough. Turned off. Mute. Done. I had to cut that out.
I don't. No, that was good. But yeah, no, don't like that song.
hate again way too attentive that's the only lyrics to it I'm guessing it is kind of cool though
because some of these songs make me think of like movies so for that I'm like oh like for some
reason I feel like this one was in Ramona and Beezus I could be playing that out of
oh wow that really is deep in my brain yeah as soon as I saw that was like wait a minute
but anyways yeah that is like F yeah sorry F don't want that but if we're doing Z it would
be a Z coming in at 14 nice and strong sweet Caroline see I think
I think this is, I think this is a good song. I don't, yeah, I think it's a wedding song because,
again, it's one of those generational songs where it gets the old people up and the young people
know it because it's just so iconic. So I would definitely give this at least a B because I think it does
a good job of getting everyone on the dance floor. Yeah, I just, you can speak your truth.
I'm going to say C. Okay. I just, something about it. This is another song where I'm like, we don't need to
play the whole thing.
That's fair. Get people on the dance floor and then hit that remix button and give me some low. You know what I'm saying? I just am like yeah. Yeah, I agree. That's fair. Oh gosh.
Well, okay, 15. Can't stop the feeling. Another troll shout out here. Gosh, I feel like this song was so good and it's time. I feel like if you don't put this at your wedding though, it's a shame because she loves the movie trolls and this just screams trolls to me. So true, but at the same time, like, I don't.
I think I overplayed it when it first came out.
And me and my mom would just like blast this in the car that now I'm like, can't hear it.
Yeah.
The working mistake.
Yeah.
I'm going to give that.
I'm going to give it a C.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I would give it a C.
But.
We can do better.
Yeah.
Okay.
Next one is Billy Jean, Michael Jackson.
I feel like I haven't heard this at a wedding.
Yeah.
I was kind of thinking that too.
But like classic.
I like the song.
But I think PYT would be a better choice.
Yeah.
If we're going to play Michael Jackson.
Yeah. Like, I love that song. It's so cute. Yeah, I agree. I think that there's some good Michael Jackson songs. This one's good. I just don't know if it's a wedding song. Yeah, for a wedding. I'm going to say... And also isn't about, like, cheating. Yeah. Literally. What the heck? Yeah. You know what? I was going to give it a D, but we're going F.
All right, 17. Signs sealed delivered. I mean, that's an A for me. That's a classic wedding song. I think it's more of.
I don't know, again, don't know if it's a wedding, like, a dance floor song, but definitely, like,
exiting the chapel or, like, walking into the reception, great song to play.
Okay, okay.
So what would you say?
I would say, like, A, to have it in your wedding, but B on the dance floor.
Okay.
Yeah.
I'll give it that.
Twist and shout the Beatles.
See, I grew up to this song with my mom.
She'd always sing it to me.
That's a weird song to sing to a child.
Yes.
That's so cute.
But I would have it at my wedding.
Is it a must?
No.
So I'd probably go B, but it is a fun song.
And again, generational.
Yeah.
I'll give it to see.
It's not my favorite.
And I feel like I don't know the words very well.
Like I've heard it, but it's not going to be one that I'm going to be saying every line to.
So I'm going to see.
Next one.
One, get lucky.
I like that song.
I don't know if I know it.
Yeah, you do.
We're up on nights, get lucky.
Oh, yeah, okay.
Yep, good.
Yeah, no, I like that one.
Me too.
I'm going to give it an A.
Yeah, me too.
Plus.
All right, last one.
Number 20.
You make my dreams.
Do you know this one?
It sounds like, you make my dream come true.
Ooh, is it that?
No idea.
Am I going to get copyrighted?
I hope not.
Anyways, that's a horrible one to end on because I'm not actually sure what song that is.
Me neither. Let me ask this. What is one song that wasn't on the list that you think should be on the list? Play that funky music, why?
Yeah. That song. No, I love that one. That's good. That's good. Especially right now. It's kind of my criss right now. It's just so good. It hypes me up.
Okay, side note, not for wedding. But you know what song I've like really been into is Love on Top by Beyonce.
The other day I like heard it again and I was like,
Wait.
Yes.
Rediscovering a song is so good.
Actually about it.
Yes.
Well, on to some pop culture.
This is another crazy week.
It was a crazy week for pop culture.
Yes, the Grammys.
Oh my gosh.
There's so, so much happened.
Literally so much.
Yeah, so much.
Number one, the best thing happened, Justin Bieber.
Oh, yeah.
Out of retirement.
Okay, the way he.
literally was in basically gym shorts and socks. Yeah like literally boxer shorts and socks. No shirt. Literally.
But did you see like the meaning behind it and everything? But yes. But I was going to say I think honestly, I think it speaks volumes because the fact that he was so one of the best performances and he literally didn't like make it a huge production. Yeah. Honestly, that's good. I like that. I agree. I think we need more of like honest raw music these days.
People be doing too much and it takes away from it.
Exactly.
And he just has such like a sad story.
Yeah.
It's so like think of how many people probably like go through what he does.
Yeah, exactly.
I think that's what helped like it helped to emphasize, which is like breaking everything to the bare bones and being vulnerable and stuff.
So that was super cool.
Yeah.
Okay.
But really sad is Alex Warren's performance.
Yeah.
I did see that a little bit.
I felt horrible.
So basically he, like, totally missed the timing of the chorus because his earpiece was like off timing or like mixed some like sounds.
So he couldn't figure out like where he was in the song.
But he recovered so well.
Yeah.
But his face after.
I know.
And that sucks.
It's like nothing that you did and nothing you can really do.
And it's like, was that his first performance?
Yeah.
I'm pretty sure.
Yeah.
Probably.
He kind of blew up over the past year.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And he has a really cool story too.
Yeah, he does.
He was.
He was living in his car with his wife, I appreciate at one point.
Which is like absolutely crazy.
And he actually like, he has such a good voice.
Yeah.
Same with like jelly roll.
He's kind of, he went, he was like crazy drug dealer prison homeless.
So that's crazy to see that revival too.
All right.
Well, next up we got just a few movies to review very briefly.
The first one being the people we meet.
on vacation on Netflix.
So I came out a little bit ago, so it's not super new.
But honestly, I read the book first and it was not a fan of the movie because it didn't
really follow the book, I feel like.
Yeah, I didn't read the book.
And I thought it was cute.
I didn't think it was like awesome sauce, but I thought it was cute and worth the watch.
Yeah.
I feel like it's cute and worth the watch just...
I didn't have high hopes going into it, though.
Like, I didn't even know what I was about to watch.
Well, Netflix movies often have that effect.
You never know what you're going to get.
Very, very true.
But it did have the actor Tom Blythe, is that correct?
Yes.
And we do like him.
Yes, he's...
He was phenomenal in The Hunger Games.
Yeah, the ballad of song Brise and Snakes.
So good.
So good.
I would say definitely cute, but I just hate when movies, like, don't stick to the book,
but go by, like, the title.
Yeah.
Like, at that point, just, like, call it a different movie because it's like...
Yeah, that doesn't really make sense to me.
Me neither.
It really frustrates me.
I'm like, well, if people liked the book, then you should probably maybe stick to the book.
Right.
Crazy thought, I know, but...
Yeah.
Well, and it's like, wouldn't you read the book before you acted in the movie based on the book?
Yeah.
So I don't really get...
Mostly, like, the producer, writer people.
Yeah.
Yeah, I guess.
That's hard.
I mean, I felt like they did a good.
good job of like performing the like character in the book like poppy's supposed to be a little crazy
and Alex is supposed to be like a little more like type A and I thought they did like a good job of that
but yeah yeah it was cute there are some funny moments so I'd say it's worth the watch yeah but I will
say our next movie the housemaid did a pretty good job of sticking to the book honestly
yeah we both had read the book and then watched the movie and
I really liked it. I thought they did. Probably one of the better movies of like sticking to the book. So that says a lot because no one really does that anymore.
Exactly. I feel like the only thing that changed was like a little bit of the ending. Yeah. But still had the like thriller factor. Yeah. It like wasn't that big a deal.
Honestly, I think this is a hot take, but I thought they casted really well. I did too. Honestly. Like I thought everyone like how much Sydney, Sweeney and Amanda like look like similar. But like Sydney's just the younger version. Like I thought that was pretty.
perfect. Oh, yeah. And then, yeah, I thought the guys were casted very well. So I was impressed.
I don't, I think Sunisimini just gets hate so then people just say they hate the movie.
Yeah. But I thought it was good. Yeah. I feel like she is kind of hit her mess. Like anything but you,
I thought she did horrible in. But I thought she did well. And I think she does better in kind of like the,
like thriller or like when she has to be like sassy, mean girl. Like she does that really well. Like I didn't
ever watch euphoria, but everyone always says that she, like,
fits the role really well.
Yeah.
I liked it.
I thought that was good.
I would say it's definitely worth the watch.
Oh, yeah, me too.
And the book as well.
Definitely read that as well.
I would say, I think the book's still better.
But I'm pretty sure that's, like, what everyone says about movies and books.
So, but definitely watch it.
It was a great watch, great read.
Very fun to review.
Let us know what you think.
Yes.
I will say we were batten 500 with good movie, bad movie.
Or I'll say good movie, mediocre.
Yeah.
Okay, so this week, Chloe and I also, we are on our, if you tuned in last week, you know we're on our health craze and we're trying to make sweet treats that don't have all the sugar.
And this week, Chloe decided that puppy chow was going to be what we tried next.
Do you want to tell them how that went?
Yeah.
This was in the negatives out of ten.
Let me tell you.
So the puppy chow was supposed to be made out of rice cakes,
obviously chocolate and peanut butter, except I use P.B. Fit powder because I ran out of peanut butter.
I think that might have been my problem a little bit.
And then the, what's called?
Powdered sugar, you're supposed to use protein powder instead of powdered sugar.
So I already was a little skeptical, but everyone was like, yeah, this is great.
Great. So I was like, okay, it's probably good. No, I'm sorry. The rice cakes literally got soggy. It was, it was awful. It was. It smelled
horrible. It smelled so bad. I was like, wow, I didn't know these ingredients could freak. You think that, like, when you think of puppy chow, you think of that perfect sweet crunch. This was like the opposite of a sweet crunch. Literally a sponge. It was literally taking a bite of a sponge. And to make matters worse, we thought we could fix it by putting them like in the free.
so that they could like get crisp in heart no don't do that literally there was no cure it was horrible
addie's boyfriend wouldn't even touch it yeah and he eats everything that's how you know you messed up
yeah you just open the box and it smells and you're like no so that was a waste of ingredients but
it was but at least we can have an honest review about it exactly so um don't try a healthy puppy chow
unless you want to be really disappointed yes
Okay, well, unfortunately, that wraps up today's episode.
What did we learn today, Chloe?
Gosh, I feel like we learned a lot.
We learned a lot about some good songs for wedding, some bad songs, some movie recommendations, you know, a little update on the Grammys.
You know what I'm saying?
I feel like you got to because music's so big.
And then we learned healthy puppy child isn't for us.
It's not it.
No.
So take our advice on all of these things.
but let us know what you think.
We'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for tuning in on 101.7 Hillsdale Radio.
See you next week.
