Hi, I'm Ariel McDowell here with a word to the wise.
We live in a culture that makes excuses for theft or drug addiction,
but condemns conversational imperfection.
Let me explain.
There's a cultural pressure to brutally lambast and condemn common behaviors that could be perceived
as rude.
For example, an uncle giving unsolicited dieting advice or someone asking why you don't have
kids.
And there's maybe some legitimacy to critiquing these social faux paws on a case-to-case basis,
but one thing is for sure we need to get over ourselves.
Living with real people means having our sensibilities valid or ridiculous,
clashed imperfectly with other people's habits.
Jesus told the Pharisees, woe to you, for you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected
the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faithfulness.
Loving people do the opposite of what our culture does.
They confront real sin for the sinner's own sake, but are willing to sacrifice their own self-importance
for genuine friendship free of fearful people-pleasing.
Fire the obnoxious HR employee in your head and remember what really matters.
This has been a word to the wise on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7 FM.
Thank you.
