Starting point is 00:00:01 The following is a special presentation of WRFH sports. Crowd is roaring. It's a sold-out game here. Bounces off the left side of the rim, offensive rebound. Sidney Mills puts it back up and end. There's that size advantage, easy layups. Dill Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM starts now. Still, Women's Charger Basketball. game starting in just a few seconds here.
Starting point is 00:01:00 The Hillsdale Chargers taking on the Ashland to Eagles. Evan, what do we know about Ashland? Ashland, one of the best teams in the country. Currently ranks number one. They do have a loss this year. Last year they were undefeated the whole season. Been a pretty good program for the last couple of years. But Hillsdale, on the other hand, been on fire recently.
Starting point is 00:01:17 Six straight wins, four on the road, and then won at home this last weekend, Cedarville. So they've been on fire, so they've got a pretty good chance here, I believe to upset Ashen. They are underdogs, but like you said, on a bit of a hot streak, probably catching them at the best time here. It is Senior Day for the Chargers, where before the National Anthem,
Starting point is 00:01:38 we just honored our three graduating seniors. Number two, Danny Halbyn, number five, Sydney Mills, and number 24, Olivia Patch. For the starters for tonight's game, Hillsdale starters are number three, Lauren McDonald, number five, Sydney Mills. Number 15, Kendall McCormick, number 23, Annalise Petrusick, and number 31, Ashley Conkle. Yep, when we're getting Petrusick back, she hasn't played, I know she didn't play last game.
Starting point is 00:02:07 I believe that that was the only game that she actually missed. Just missed one game. Just missed the one game, so we have to have her back and in the starting lineup once again. I believe that's actually, so she has started only three games this year, so this will be her fourth start of the year. for the freshman. Do I wonder why that is? Could be a matchup. Just something the coach likes.
Starting point is 00:02:36 I feel like she kind of just has turned it on these last couple of games is what I've been hearing from a lot of the players, a lot of her teammates. As for Ashland, we have the starters. Ashland's starters. Yeah, it looks like it's going to be number 25. Zoe Miller. number 10
Starting point is 00:02:57 Lexi Howe number 42 the reigning NCAA Division 2 player of the year Annie Rochette and number three Morgan Yoder I believe it all speed up
Starting point is 00:03:13 the number 21 Macy Spielman so Ashland returns a core that went undefeated and won the national championship last year most of that team is back here today and the charge of The Chalmers have to work enough. This is one of the top ranked team in Division 2 right now.
Starting point is 00:03:30 One of the best teams in the country. Yeah, as you and I were saying before the broadcast, Hillsdale is no stranger to upsetting Ashley. They are. They are nationally ranked in one of the top teams in the country. It has happened before. We were both on the sideline for that game. We were on the sidelines two seasons to go.
Starting point is 00:03:49 And the Hillsdale football team was able to upset Ashley. So for the Chargers' sake, let's hope we can have another upset. here this afternoon. Rocheck and Miller, they're two highest scores. So they're both starting tonight. Average 16 and 15 points a game. Yeah, I mean, when you go down the stats sheet, Ashland dominates in just about every category.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Shot shooting percentage, rebounding, three-pointers. The average point difference right now is almost 27 points a game. They have a big advantage Hill still has against most teams, is they're rebounding. Yep, and it's tip off right here. Chargers control it. Lauren McDonald has it in the back court. Number 10, Lexi Howland defense, swings it to Mills.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Mills back to McCormick. Now over to Petrozick on the wing. Trying to set up Conklin the post. It's not there. Mills has it. Hand off to McDonald. McDonald takes the three, no good. And the ball goes out of bounds.
Starting point is 00:04:48 It's going to be Ashland Ball, saying it went off of Mills as she was trying to get the offensive rebound. Already there, we got to see, though, some of the aggressiveness in the offensive board from Hillsdale as on the way getting the offensive board. As Ashland has an open three and it's good. That was number 21, Mason Spielman, to start the scoring here this afternoon. McDonald brings it up for the Chargers. Yeah, they left her open. I don't know if they missed the matchup or if it was that they were playing too much help defense,
Starting point is 00:05:18 but she was wide open on the opposite side of the wing. Yeah, definitely want to get that under control on defense. Donald has it at the top of the key for the charges. Interior pass to Mills. She misses Conkall with the offensive rebound, and she makes the basket, but she's called for a travel. So there's going to be no basket. Eagles ball.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Yeah, one too many steps there from Conkill before she took the shot. Yoder has it for Ashland. Cross support pass to Howe takes another three, and then it's back-to-back three-pointers for the Ashland Eagles. it's six to zero early in this first quarter. Yeah, those two plays looked almost identical. Yeah, just ran it on different sides of the court. As Conkel is fouled, it'll be number 25 Zoe Miller
Starting point is 00:06:07 picking up her first foul for Ashland. Yeah, Hillsdale really got to watch those cross-court passes from Ashland, Ashland, just throwing it across and finding wide-open threes here early. Yeah, they're screening on the backside of plays and catching Hillsdale napping on defense. Chargers throw it in McDonald drives the lane left-handed layup, it's good.
Starting point is 00:06:29 It's the first basket for the Chargers score now two to six with 8.30 left in the first quarter. And sometimes that first basket for the Chargers the most important one. Ashland, trying that, starting with that cross-court pass and then feeds it inside to number 25. Zoe Miller and she is fouled.
Starting point is 00:06:44 She will go to the line and shoot two free throws. I do give Hillsdale a lot of credit there. Much better job covering that cross-court pass. So, Hilsd is going to be shooting The two free throws, but it wasn't an easy wide open look there. Yep, didn't have an open look at the three and then fed the ball inside to Miller. She makes the first free throw. 825 left in this first quarter.
Starting point is 00:07:10 The score is now 8 to 2. Ashland is up. McDonald brings it up for the Chargers. Dieterzik has it on the wing. Post-feed to Conkel. Back out to Mills from the top of the key. She drives a little spin move. The layup is blocked.
Starting point is 00:07:30 she gets the ball, kicks it back out to McDonald. Now McCormick has it. McCormick drives right side, throws it up, and she's fouled. That was a good job getting the foul there because I don't think that she was going to be able to make that shot. So it was a good job leaning into the contact. Yeah, good job drawing contact for sure. Both teams early here playing some man defense.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Chargers looked to be in a little bit more help, playing a little bit more help. But we'll see if that changes with those. two open looks but Ashton playing really tight and depending on the one-on-one matchups. Yeah, and you don't get to be 22 and one unless you're excellent on both ends of the court. And Ashland is as McCormick makes the first three free throw misses the second. It'll be three eight with eight minutes left in the first quarter. Spielman has it, drives the lane.
Starting point is 00:08:25 No good offensive rebound. Ashland kicks it back out. Thought about the three-point shot. take it. Now post-feed into Miller. She's got Mills defending. Oh, and she's able to get around her for the lay-up. 10-3. Ashland is up. McDonald brings it up for the Chargers. Picks up her dribble now, swings it to Mills. Mills now to Petrazick on the wing. Back to Mills. To Conkle, post-feed inside to McDonald takes a short jump shot and it's good. Nice little turnaround jump shot the paint there from the
Starting point is 00:09:02 paint there from McDonald. Yeah, McDonald, very, very calm, even under the heavy pressure. The cross-court pass for Ashton. They like swinging it around the perimeter. Now down to Miller in the post. Conklin defending.
Starting point is 00:09:18 And it's a steal for the charges. Mills has it on the fast break. She's going right at the D-2 player of the year, and it's good. What a play from Sydney Mills. Yeah, great play. Making it at 7 to 10 for Ashland. Very tight game here early on.
Starting point is 00:09:31 As Ashland tries to answer quickly and turns it over. again the Chargers are having and running skip pass to Mills she's driving at Rochak again this time she's blocked gets the ball back out to McDonald Chargers settling down a little bit on offense here McCormick has it at the top of the key drives left side tries to finish with a scoop layup it's no good rebound to Ashland the three Morgan Yoder brings it up for the Eagles Yoder in the corner post feed and another steal that's three straight turnovers for the Eagles something you don't see very often from one of the best teams in division too playing a little bit sloppy right now and the chargers aren't able to capitalize
Starting point is 00:10:12 miss the layup is howe takes a three-pointer for the eagles and it's good as soon this team now up 13 to 7 this team is phenomenal at shooting here yeah really great shooters that's apparent early McDonald has it for the chargers now conchle in the high post was able to get a nice pass to Petrusik who was cutting to the basket but couldn't finish the layup. Ashland, with the ball, it's Yoder, bringing it up. Roshak, top of the key. Now over to Spielman.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Spielman driving around the perimeter. Howe hasn't she just hit a three. Post-feed to Rochak, and a turnaround jumper is just too easy for Annie Rochak. Yeah, Holtzell now playing more of a match defense. They know that Aschlin has those four shooters, on the outside and they're just feeding it to the one man inside,
Starting point is 00:11:10 looking, just constantly get it in there and then kick it back out or get it in there and finish the layup. McDonald takes a three for the Chargers. No good. Rebound Ashland. And Ashland is going to take a time out. And we are going to go to a short media break. You're listening to Hillsdale Charger basketball and Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.

Ashland off to a hot start from three-point land. They've already hit three three-pointers. Yeah, Hill still done a better job defending as of late,
Starting point is 00:13:06 but leaving too many wide-open shots for Ashland. And Ashland, one of the best shooting teams in the country. Can't let that happen. Ashland ball inside the number 33. That is Haley Smith, and she finishes with a layup. Now 17 to 7. McDonald brings it up the court for the Chargers. hand off to Danny Holbein.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Mills the screen, trying to get the pick and roll going. It's not there. Panasic takes the three. No good. Rebound Ashland. It's Brockington. Speedy guard, bringing it up to the floor for the Eagles. Yeah, she's one of the shorter players here, but that usually means she's got some pretty good speed.
Starting point is 00:13:47 She's one of their scores. Highly skilled, Ashland, taking another three. It's no good offensive rebound. They get the putback. and the foul. That's number 33, Haley Smith, with a chance for a three-point play. Yeah, Hillsville already underdogs in this game. And when you're an underdog in the game, you can't let Ashland here get second-chance points. Yeah, definitely not. Offensive rebounding is going to be huge. Well, I guess, yeah, defensive rebounding for the charge is going to be huge.
Starting point is 00:14:15 They can't allow Ashland to get second-chance points. As Smith, free throw is good. It's 20 to 7 with 4.5. four minutes left in this first quarter. McDonald, bringing it up for Hillsdale. Caitlin's playing in the game now. She has it on the wing. Takes the three. No good.
Starting point is 00:14:40 Chargers fighting for the rebound. It's Danny Holbein on the floor, and it's going to be a jump ball. Possession, Ashland. Yeah, it was a great job being aggressive there by Halbine. Because that ball was just rolling around, and she dove right on top of it and drew the jump ball. Yeah, good aggression and you're going to need to make some plays like that
Starting point is 00:15:01 in order to get back into this game. Ashland's swimming the ball around the perimeter until they want to try to get their shooters open. Number 22, bringing it around. 22 open in the corner, another three for the Eagles, and it's good. This is a good shooting team. Yeah, Hill's still really trying to play that, match or that zone match defense doing a lot a lot of switching here there's yeah there's so much motion
Starting point is 00:15:35 and then everybody's a good shooter yeah and when it requires any help defense at all and you leave an open shooter ashland has been able to hit those shots as of late as ashlin steals the ball this is brockington bringing it up thinks about the three swings it number 22 molly dever misses the three pointer rebound mcdonald she challenges the defense Cicks it out to Savannah Smith. Feeds it back inside to McDonald's short turnaround jumper is good. That's the second same shot, exactly. Yeah, same shot.
Starting point is 00:16:11 She's very comfortable with. Chargers down 23 to 9. Ashland takes another three, no good rebound to Holbein. Pass to McDonald's. She'll bring it up for the Chargers. That time was a great job boxing out by the Chargers. Very easy rebound for the players under the basket. Caitlin Splane, taking a mid-range.
Starting point is 00:16:30 jump off the screen and it's good. Chargers looking to chip into this lead early. Two minutes left in his first quarter. They're down. 23 to 11. Brockington has it for the Eagles. Hand off to Daniels. Swings it to McKee.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Back down to Brockington in the corner. Another three-pointer is good. That time she wasn't even wide open. She just was able to hit the three-pointer, even in the face of pressure. Pretty good contest, but there's a reason. they're the number one team in the country. McDonald has it. Pass to Panasic on the wing.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Swings it to Splane. Splane looking to drive. Loses the ball a little bit. Then gains control and hits another little mid-range jumper. It's now 26 to 13. And Ashland Eagle is wide open for three in the corner in transition. And she makes the Chargers pay. You just can't leave anybody open on this team.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Everybody can shoot. Everybody on the team for the Eagles can shoot. It's now 29 to 13 with a minute left to play in this first quarter. Ashland has been scoring at will. McDonald takes a three for the Chargers, no good. Rebound Ashland. Number 14, Aaron Daniels bringing it up. Progress from the drive.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Kicks it back out to Brockington. Crossport pass. Now feeds it inside to Smith. And Smith called for the offensive foul. She's called for a charge. It was Danny Hall by. who came in and drew the charge. That was a great job by Halbyn, getting her feet set,
Starting point is 00:18:05 getting her square and making her either go through or go over. Yeah, definitely a smart play from her senior Hallbine. Ms. Kendall McCormick checks back into the game for the Chargers. Lauren McDonald, Sidney Panosick will sit down. It's Mills and McCormick back in. 46 seconds left. Chargers down 29 to 13. Caitlin Splean with the basketball.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Passes it to Hallbine, a Hallbine driving and kicks it out to McCormick. McCormick drives left side. She's got a great look at it, and she finishes the layup. That was a great move. Taking that left side, they were giving her. Yeah, nice job. Take advantage of a lapse in the defense there for McCormick. Got to take those where you can get him, because there's not many lapses in this Ashley defense.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Rockington has it. She can hold it for the last shot. Shot clock is off. 10 seconds left. She's driving on McCormick, and she's able to get the basket to go. Two seconds left. Holbein will just throw it up.
Starting point is 00:19:13 And it is no good. Chargers down 31 to 15 after one quarter of play. As we go to a quick break here, you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. Starting point is 00:20:05 Hello? That's awesome. Where can I listen to the show? Well, what if I miss it on the air? to Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball. Hillsdale taking on the Ashland Eagles today. Unfortunately, in a little bit of a hole here after the first quarter. The Chargers down 31 to 15 as we're about to start play here in the second quarter. Yeah, Ashland currently shooting 73% from the field, six for nine from three point land, and Hillsdale, 0 for 5 from three point land. That's been one of the big stories.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Hillsdale done a pretty good job of having Ashland turn over the ball, but leaving too many wide open shooters. Yeah, they're going to need Ashland to cool down from the three point line if they want to make a comeback in this one. Hillsdale has the ball on offense. Petruszik on the wing, swings it to number 21 Savannah Smith, trying to get it to Mills. Mills has it in the short corner, doesn't like it, kicks it back out. Kenna McCormick now, driving left, turn around, spin move. Shot is blocked, but Savannah Smith is there to gather the block and put in the putback.
Starting point is 00:21:34 It's two points for the charges. Ashland wasting no time trying to get it inside to Miller but it's no good. Kenna McCormick brings it up for the chargers. Mills has it on the wing, dribbles to the top of the key, kicks it to Caitlin Splain. Splane using the screen, takes a mid-range jumper. It's no good, rebound to Ashland. They're pushing the ball fast again.
Starting point is 00:22:05 That was number 10, Alexie Howe. transition layup, basket is good. Yeah, that's something that we began to see at the end of that first quarter. Ashland pushing the ball up, whether Hillsdale makes the best or not, no matter what, they're trying to move with as much pace as possible, just trying to not let Hillsdale get set up in that matchup zone. Yeah, you can see how quickly they want to get going on offense. As Ashland forces a steal, it's Lexie Howe driving in transition again.
Starting point is 00:22:33 And same thing. Another layup for Lexi Howe in transition. Ashland now up 35 to 17. We're less than two minutes into the second quarter. Splane has it for the Chargers. How on defense. Swings it to Petrasick. Peaches it takes the three. No good.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Offensive rebound, Sidney Mills. The putback is no good. Rebound Ashland. There was a great rebound there by Mills. Just couldn't get the shot to go. And they're running in transition again. And they are going to... Number 21, Macy.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Spielman draws a foul on a layup. Layup is good and she's got a chance for a three point play. He'll still got to be really, really careful there. Got to slow the game down somehow. Find a way to now let Ashland get these quick transition baskets, so this will get out of hand too quickly.
Starting point is 00:23:24 Yeah, they really got to focus on getting back on defense because Ashland is turning this into a track meet early. Free throw, no good. Ashtland up 37 to 17. Petrusich has it for the Chargers. Back out to McDonald.
Starting point is 00:23:43 McDonald looking to drive, kicks it out to Mills. Mills takes the three-point shot. It's short, no good. Rebound Panasic. Back out to Splane. Splane takes the three. Also short, rebound to Ashland. Eagles running again.
Starting point is 00:24:00 Rocheck has it at the top of the key, kicks it out to Howe. Now Rochak in the post going to work on Petrus. It kicks it back out. They're swinging it around the perimeter. Get a good look from three in the corner. No good. Offensive rebound. Eagles and number three Morgan Yoder dribbles into a three point shot and knocks it down 40 to 17
Starting point is 00:24:22 Ashland is up yeah it looked like Hillsdale was was thought they were going to get the rebound there were two Hillsdale players already more than halfway down the court and so when they tried to come back and can play defense it was too little too late wide up and three-pointed Ashland steals the ball trying to post feed to Sidney Mills how has it and we're going to to jump ball in the corner because Anna Peaches it I believe Chargers have the possession
Starting point is 00:24:50 No it's going to be not It's going to be Ashland's going to be Ashland's ball Hill still got it after the first quarter Yes, at the beginning of the second Right about that Rockington will throw it in for the Eagles Has it to spill him in the corner Feed to Smith no good
Starting point is 00:25:12 Smith fighting for her own rebound with McCormick Well, almost goes out of bounds, but Brockington picks it up. Ashland retaining possession. Brockington dribbling around the perimeter, handoff to Howe. Swings it to Haley Smith, back to Howe. McDonald playing tight defense. Shot clock running down.
Starting point is 00:25:35 Howe throws it up. No good, but Smith is right there to catch the airball and put it in. Just everything going right for Ashley right now. Yeah, Hill's going to be forced to call a timeout, trying to slow this game down, try to get some points on maybe a set play here. Yep, and we're going to go to a quick time out. He's instituted some pretty sweeping reforms in our school. Like what, Connie? Welcome back. You're listening to Hillsdale Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. Hillsdale women's team, unfortunately down early in this one of the Ashland Eagles. The score is 42 to 17 with 6.5. six minutes and 18 seconds left in this second quarter.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Evan Ashland can't seem to miss from anywhere in the floor right now. No, they're shooting really, really, really well, especially from the three-point line. I mean, 63% on 11 shots is something that I couldn't do if I had nobody on me, much less in a basketball game while I was tired. Yep, and the Chargers have the ball here. Trying to get it inside to Mills. It's knocked away by an Ashland defender. Possession will stay with the Hillsdale.
Starting point is 00:27:56 I think the crazy thing is that Hillsdale and Ashland both have 24 and 25 shots. So it's not like Hillsdale isn't getting shots up, although they have had a couple turnovers here recently. They've done a good job overall of getting good shots up on this Ashland defense. Ashland is playing better offense. Unfortunately, yeah, haven't been able to make him. Gnossack has it inside, kicks it out to Danny Holbein. Mills was open for a second under the basket.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Can't finish the shot. It's swatted away. Possession will stay with the charger. I believe. A little bit of a discussion here as the teams are going back toward their bench. I'm not sure what the officials are talking about. Evan, did you see something there?
Starting point is 00:28:40 I think that they're going to go and see if there was contact to the hedge. The same thing as yesterday. And if there's not, I think they're just going to give her the ball out of bounds. Potential flagrant foul here? Yeah. I think that that's what they're going for, but I also couldn't really tell either. It wasn't the opposite side of the court from us.
Starting point is 00:28:58 warrant a media timeout for us? I know. I think we're going to go ahead and... We're going to go ahead and talk through this one here. We'll go ahead and talk through it. Yeah, so Hillsdale, no matter what, going to get the ball on the inbound pass. Hillsdale, Ashland has done a good job of having quite a few blocks on Hillsdale. Hillsdale able to recover on most of their blocks, either get the technically rebound or player catch their block once again.
Starting point is 00:29:22 But Ashton done a really good job of blocking Hillsdale. Hillsdale, 0 for 8 from 3. Yeah, not good. No, no, not good. And it's just as much of credit to this Ashland defense. It's not like Hillsdale's getting great shots. They've gotten some good shots that they've missed that they would definitely like to have back. But Ashland is really making it tough for them.
Starting point is 00:29:45 Yeah, even from the three-point line. I would say they've had a couple open threes. Hopefully you get one to fall by now, but a couple of those three-pointers were definitely not easy shot. Well, we mentioned it before the game started. In order to pull off an upset like this, there's certain things you need to have happen. You need them to have a bad night shooting. You need some of the bounces and some of the breaks to go your way, and you've got to be hot. And you've got to be hot, especially from the 3.5.
Starting point is 00:30:14 And none of those things have happened so far for the Chargers, unfortunately. And that's why they find themselves down, 42 to 17, with five minutes and 54 seconds left in the second quarter. And it looks like there was, yeah, they're calling no foul. Confirmed the ruling on the court is what they says. There's six seconds left on the shot clock. Halbine has it for the chargers. Quick feet into McDonald's, kicks it back out to Hallbine. He takes the three.
Starting point is 00:30:41 It's no good. And I'm not sure what the call was there. The shot clock there expired. Shot clock expired. And because the ball didn't hit the rim. There's no reset on the shot clock. Shot clock violation on the shot clock. on the Chargers.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Ashland has it. Number three, Morgan Yoder on the outside, kicks it to Daniels, 14. She drives the lane, kicks it back out to Howe for three, and it's good. Another three-pointer for Ashland. They extend their lead.
Starting point is 00:31:12 They are now up 45 to 17. McDonald has it for the Chargers, kicks it to Mills, into Holbein and the paint. No, oh, pass from Holbein is a little too, caught from McDonald to Hamveld go goes off of her hand and out of bounds it'll be a turnover and Ashland's ball yeah Hillstale just got to settle down on offense a little bit they were doing such
Starting point is 00:31:35 a great job earlier of at least you know making good moves getting good shots now they've had a couple turnovers a couple block shots and they seem to be out of rhythm yeah it's it's hard when you get down this big in a game early you just nothing seems to be going your way hillsdale now on defense nice strip there from Lauren McDonald she hit it the way. Remember 25 Zoe Miller and the ball went off of Miller's knee so it'll be the Hillsdale Chargers ball. Yeah, great play by there by McDonald. Another charger tried to jump in in front of the pass and she and she whiffed it. So McDonald's playing some great help defense and able to swat that away and get possession because of the tip. McCormick has it at the top of the key for the
Starting point is 00:32:19 Chargers trying to get inside to Sidney Mills but Ashland defense is stout. McCormick loses the ball a little bit. and gathers control, kicks it to Holbein, who's driving left. Tries the little turnaround shot off the glass, but it's no good. Brockington, bringing it up for the Eagles now. Swinging to Miller back down to Brockington in the corner. Number three, Yoder with the ball. Takes it to the other side of the court, handoff to Daniels, back down to Yoder in the corner. Rochak has it at the top of the key.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Shot clock running down, less than five seconds. shoots the three. No good rebound McDonald. Chargers off and running trying to get something going on offense here. Hand off to McCormick takes the three. No good rebound. Ashland. Brockington bringing it up. Ashland not really slowing down here on offense. Daniels has it. Shoots the three. No good. Rebound McDonald. Yeah, McDonald basically just had a sprint back down the court there in order to play any defense at all. And so she's hands off there to make. McCormick. McCormick is a nice little drive and lays it in off the glass.
Starting point is 00:33:35 That's two points for the Chargers. Score now 45 to 19. About three minutes left in the first half. Daniels has it for the Eagles. Hand off to Brockington. Post-feed to Annie Rochacker loses the ball. Good defense there from the Chargers to take it away. McDonald off and running.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Takes it all the way into the paint for the little short-range jumper. And that's good. Yeah, Hillsdale on a little bit of a run here now. Yeah, they definitely need it here at the end of the half. Eagles trying to get the ball inside to Rochak, and they do, despite the double coverage. She makes the turnaround jumper. 4721, Ashland leads to Hillsdale. Yeah, Hillsdale, trying to double team, double team Rocheck whenever she gets the ball on the paint.
Starting point is 00:34:24 Panasik has it for the Chargers. Tries a little turnaround layup, no good. Ashland rebounding. Yoder brings it up, swings it to Brockington, back to Yoder. Trying to get it inside to Miller. Yoder still has it. Hand off to Daniels. Trying to get the ball to Annie Rochak again. She settles for the three and surprise, surprise. Three-pointer is good for the Ashland Eagles. Yeah, another slightly contested three-pointer there and Ashton just makes it again. And I think it was pretty good defense from the charges. Ashton-Hawbine game, as Danny Holbein
Starting point is 00:35:02 It's free. She's cut into the basket for a little reverse layup. Yeah, great backdoor cut there by Holbein. Nice to see the senior scoring on Senior Day. Daniels has it for the Eagles. Back to Yoder in the corner. And she hits another three-pointer. This might be the best three-point shooting performance I've ever seen in a game.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Yeah, I remember there was one game of my high school career where I saw one better. But other than that, I mean. and they are 10 of 16 or 11 of 17. I'm not sure if our stats have updated. Either way, it's a very high percentage. Mills has it for the Chargers, kicks it to McCormick, and then McCormick finds McDonald for a really good look inside.
Starting point is 00:35:48 She's not able to make it, unfortunately. And do we have a jump ball? No, we have a foul on the rebound. Foul on McDonald. The number of substitutions coming in for the Chargers. Caitlin Splaying in the game, Anna Petrusick. And number 24, the senior Olivia Patch. McDonald and Mills stay on the floor.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Some substitutions for the Eagles as well. Number 23, Sarah McKee is in the game. 10, Lexi Howe, 33, Haley Smith. And 22, Molly Devere. Dever has it outside. Trying to work it inside to McKee. Devere kicks it to how quickly gets it inside to Smith. Smith going to work on Patch.
Starting point is 00:36:40 It's no good. Rebound Mills. McDonald will bring it up. Yeah, he'll still always covering that big man with the same, like Olivia Patch there. McDonald takes the three-pointer, no good, rebound to Ashland. Lexi Howe has the ball inside to Smith. Smith going to work with the left hand, and it's good. Nice move there from Smith.
Starting point is 00:37:05 score now 55 to 23 with less than 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter about a second difference between the shot clock and oh even less than less than a second difference the shot clock in the game clock are essentially the same tech at 10 seconds left here McDonald has it looks like hillsdale's going to hold it for the last shot tries the screen on mills and drives inside gets the defender to fall and finishes nice move there for McDonald and that will be the end of the first half. Chargers down 55 to 25 after two quarters. Ashland has been excellent on both ends of the floor as we go to a halftime break. You're listening to Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. Welcome back. You're listening to Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. been a tough game so far for the Chargers. They're down 55 to 25 to the number one team in the country, the Ashland Eagles. Evan, not much going right for the Chargers in the first half and just about everything going right for the Eagles. Yeah, Ashland's shooting even better than they usually do.
Starting point is 00:38:28 I know they are one of the best teams in the country, but usually no team can shoot 62% from three-point range on 16 shots. Like you were saying late in the first half, I could be standing down to the gym with nobody. to guard me and I wouldn't be shooting as well as this Ashland team is right now. As the second half getting underway. Hillsdale with possession. McCormick has it in the corner. Bounce pass to Conkill. Finds McCormick coming off screen.
Starting point is 00:38:58 No, never mind. Tries to get into Sidney Mills. He's unable to handle the pass and it's stolen by the Eagles. Yoder has it for the Eagles down in the corner. kicks it up to Ashton swinging it around in the hands of Miller out to Hal. Inside to Rochak and God, they are just, we're killing them with this four around one right now. They get the ball inside and then kick it back out and they're just scoring from everywhere on the court. Yeah, the big problem for the Chargers is that when Ashland, so Ashland has four out all the time.
Starting point is 00:39:38 and when they rotate the person out and the person in, the big has to step up in front of them. They often end up behind them because they're moving inside. They don't want to get caught on that back door. Yep. Charges with the ball. McDonald has it in the top. Gets it inside to Conkel.
Starting point is 00:39:55 It has a crease for a second but is unable to get a shot up. Eagles have it again. Yoder bringing it down the floor. Kicks it to Spielman in the corner. Spielman drives baseline, kicks it to Howe. Back up to Miller at the top over to Howe inside to Rocheck and she is just unfazed by the defense inside. Yeah, she is she is six one but she seems to be have super super long arms able to pick that ball up above everybody and then she's just very calm the defense doesn't just doesn't phase her all as the eagles with another steel. Howe has it to Yoder back to Howe in the corner open three no good.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Offensive rebound. Yep. Ashland able to retain possession. Yoder has it. Outside. Gets it to Spielman on the corner. Trying to get it to Miller under the basket. And they do.
Starting point is 00:40:51 And Miller finishes for another two points. 61.25 with 7.45 left in the third quarter. Yeah, he'll still got to calm down here on offense a little bit. McDonald takes the show. shot it's no good and goes out of bounds Savannah Smith checking in for the Chargers for Ashley Conkel yeah he'll still got to remember that in order to win
Starting point is 00:41:17 the GMAC tournament in order to compete in the GMAC tournament you have to go through Ashland pretty much no matter what that's going to be a tall task for any team to do this Ashland team has only lost one game this season that was to Ferris State other than that they are perfect and they're playing like it here today. Chargers have the ball. McDonald's top of the key.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Gets it over to McCormick to Petrazig. Petrizzerzick takes a deep three and it's good. It's the first three-pointer for the Chargers today and they definitely needed it. Yeah, going from Oved for 11 to 1 for 12 now. Rocheck tries to match the three-pointer from the top of the key. No good. Rebound Ashland. Spielman takes it inside and makes the spinning layup. That was an impressive move.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Yeah, it really was. And another offensive rebound there by Ashton, they're really being aggressive on this board in the second half, even more so than they were in the first half. Last thing Hillsdale needs is second chance points for the Eagles. McCormick has it, kicks it to McDonald. McDonald's trying to set it up, drives left-handed,
Starting point is 00:42:21 nice, strong finish from Warren McDonald. And the Eagles are off and running. Howe tries to dribble inside. She stopped by McDonald, cross-court pass, swung to Rochak back outside to Yoder cross court to Spilman Speilman takes the three it's short
Starting point is 00:42:41 Roshack able to out rebound Petrusick kicks it out to Yoder Yoder slowing things down a little bit for the Eagles getting him set up on offense so she drives a handoff how quick skip to Rochak and then over to Spielman again Spielman misses again but Roshack
Starting point is 00:42:59 fighting for the rebound It's lost, but the Eagles pick it up. Yoder takes a three. That's their third attempt. They've missed all three, and looks like we have an injured charger. I believe it's Anna Petrazik grabbing at her right leg a little bit.
Starting point is 00:43:20 And she will check out of the game. She's able to walk off the court, but definitely in some discomfort there. Explain will check in for Petrazik. Yeah, Hillsdale, better job there defending the shots, making him very heavily contested, but not, once again, Ashton being super aggressive on the boards. Yep, they're an excellent offensive rebounding team. The Splane comes in for the Chargers. Sidney Smith takes the three, no good.
Starting point is 00:43:54 Rebound Rocheck. Swings it to Brockington and she'll bring it up for the Eagles. Howe in the corner, inside to Sucke. Smith, no good, rebound McDonald. Chargers trying to get something going on offense here. Kick to Smith. Smith takes another three from the same spot, misses it again. Offensive rebound, Danny Hallbine.
Starting point is 00:44:17 Hallbine dribbles underneath the basket. Outside to Smith, Smith drives. Puts the shot up. Shot is no good, but she's fouled. I'm not sure if it was a shooting foul or on the floor. I think they're calling the foul on the floor. I think they called it on the floor before the shot attempt. Yep, the Chargers will be inbounding from underneath
Starting point is 00:44:34 the basket. It's Lauren McDonald. Get it into Cindy Panassick. Now to McDonald. Over to Smith. Caitlin Splain has it at the top of the key. A little bit of a dribble move and swings it to Smith. Smith drives in hard and she's fouled again. Another blocking foul there on the Eagles. Draws another foul there for Savannah Smith on that pump-shaking go. So even in this dominating performance by Ashton, the one good thing is that Lauren McDonald is still having a pretty good offensive game, 12 points for her. Yeah, McDonald playing very hard. All the Chargers. I mean, this is not an effort issue, I would say.
Starting point is 00:45:19 It's just a matter of a team shooting the basketball very well. And do we have a time out here? Yeah, we're in immediate time out here. So we're going to Free Hillsdale. 1.1.7 FM. Thank you, the old ballgame, where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime. I'm Tate Christensen.
Starting point is 00:45:41 Today we talk about the origin of baseball's favorite concession food, hot dogs. At early ball games, there were no official concession stands, but local people would sell food to fans, who tended to eat things you would eat without utensils. And at the beginning of the 20th century, German immigrants began to help shape the culture, and people
Starting point is 00:45:58 began to love their dachshund sausages, which were served with a milk roll and sourcrow. In the 1860s, Chris von deraahi, a German immigrant and owner of the St. Louis Browns, introduced the hot dog to baseball fans. At first, they were served without buns, and instead, customers would keep the white gloves that the hot sausages were served on. However, the gloves were eventually not being returned, and this frustrated the company. Welcome back to Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7 FM. Chargers down 63 to 30 with four minutes and 55 seconds left in the third quarter.
Starting point is 00:46:34 It has been all Ashland up to this point. Chargers have the basketball inbounding underneath the hoop. Throws it out deep to Caitlin Splean. Splane loses it for a second and she loses it for good. Eagle ball. Yoder has it. Over to Miller.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Yoder dribbling around, a handoff to Brockington. Back to Yoder in the corner. Trying to work it inside. Can't. Out to Daniels with McDonald's. Good defense there for McDonald. They're switching off.
Starting point is 00:47:15 They just keep moving that ball around the perimeter. They find a decent look. Miss it. Offensive rebound to Ashland. And we'll start the whole thing over. Yeah, another offense rebound there by Aschland. It's just been really one player under the basket who's been rebounding. Yep, and it works there.
Starting point is 00:47:33 They're able to get the ball inside to number 25. Zilli Miller. She finishes through contact. Dan draws a foul. Chance for a three-point play here. Like you said, they like running this four-out, one-in system where you have four shooters around the perimeter. I mean, everybody in this team can shoot.
Starting point is 00:47:51 So you have four players around the perimeter, trying to get it inside, get the defense to collapse, and then kick it back out to the open shooters. Yeah, there's not a lot of dribbling and driving in this offense. Yep, a lot of passing. And Ashton misses the free throw, but is able to get the rebound. It's number 25 Miller inside,
Starting point is 00:48:08 with the rest of the players around her. Oh, and they find number 23. Sarah McKee open under the basket for an easy two points. Splane brings it up for Hillsdale. Trying to get into McDonald underneath the basket. Not there. Swings it to Mills. Very aggressive defense.
Starting point is 00:48:31 And Aslan tried to trap on McDonald's able to get around it and score two baskets from the post. Nice move for McDonald there. as Miller will take a three and miss, rebound Hillsdale. It's Lauren McDonald. McDonald forced the issue a little bit. Hand off to Mills. Mills shoots the three, no good.
Starting point is 00:48:53 Rebound McKee. Excuse me, rebound Molly Devere. Feeds the ball inside to Sarah McKee, and McKee is able to finish. Another two points. It is 69 to 32 with three minutes left in this third quarter. That was a very tough shot there by McKee. She was able to get the finish, but not very easily.
Starting point is 00:49:13 Hillsville definitely did good job, making that a tough shot. That was good defense, just better offense. Mills has it for the Chargers, fighting for the ball, and there's going to be a jump ball, and the Eagles will have the possession. As five new players are checking in for Ashland, it's number 33, Haley Smith, 42, Annie Rochak, Number one, Savaya Brockington,
Starting point is 00:49:42 21, Macy Spielman, and number 10, Lexi Howe. A lot of different players here for Ashley who have played in this game, and most of them have played very well. Ashland, very, very deep bench. They're working inside to Rochak, who misses great defense there from Sidney Smith.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Unfortunately, Rochak gets a rebound. It makes a very difficult shot. 71 32 Ashland with two minutes and 20 seconds to play. McDonald has it for the Chargers. It'll pull-up jump shot and it's good. She's really comfortable taking that pull-up jump shot. She's had a lot of those this game and most of them have gone in here. Yeah, excellent mid-range shooter.
Starting point is 00:50:23 14 points for her tonight. She's been a bright spot for Hillsdale. As Ashland has it, trying to work it inside to Roe Shack, swinging it around the outside. eventually get it inside to Smith and that is just too easy. Cannot have them shooting layups uncontested. No, you can't. Ashland's spreading the ball around a lot.
Starting point is 00:50:48 13 points for one player, 10 points, 9 points, 9 points, 8.7 points. It's no single player who's got 20. It's just a lot of middle scoring players. As a bad pass from McDonald is intercepted and Ashland is off and running, can't get the fast break layup to go. They miss. Chargers pick it up. Sidney Smith is down there. Nice, good patient move from Sydney Smith
Starting point is 00:51:11 to let the defense pass it by and make the layup. Nashville is trying to answer quickly. They missed a shot attempt and the charges got it again. Chance for McCormick here. And inside to Sidney Mills. Mills unable to make the shot but draws the foul. Mills will be shooting two at the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:51:38 Excuse me earlier. I said Sidney Smith. That was Savannah Smith. My apology. Savannah Smith for that last bucket for the Chargers. 73, 36. Ashland leading with a minute left in the third quarter. Mills shooting two free throws.
Starting point is 00:51:56 Unable to make the first. It's the second. Now 37 to 73. As the Eagles get a quick look in the corner for three, no good. rebound Olivia Patch nice rebound from the senior there McCormick has it now for the Chargers bring it up kicks it to Splane
Starting point is 00:52:25 yeah Splain trying to control the offense here yeah trying to get a little bit of motion going now Mills has it inside a nice reverse layup from Cindy Mills great move there for Mills yeah great dribble great drive and then great finish honestly all around strong finish it's 73 39 Ashland still leading getting it inside to Rocheque, who kicks it back out to Howe for three.
Starting point is 00:52:53 And that's another made three-pointer for the Eagles. They hadn't made one in a little while, and he just knew they were going to make one again eventually. 12 seconds left here in the third quarter. Splane has it for the charger. Shot clock is off. She drives around the right side, then pull up, step back. It's a long two, no good. Nobody touched it.
Starting point is 00:53:14 There's only 0.8 seconds left. Ashton will just throw it. and that will be the end of the third quarter. That is the end of the third quarter. Ashton Leads 76 to 39. We'll go to a quick break. You're listening to Hillsdale Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.

We're listening to Hillsdale Charger Basketball, Charger Women's Team, taking on the Ashland Eagles today, and it's been all Ashland in this one. Ashton leads 76 to 39 as we go into the fourth quarter. Not any one player particular for Ashland dominating this game,
Starting point is 00:55:05 but just playing really well as a team. Yeah, a lot of players for Ashland. Every single person for Ashland who has been in the game has scored And there's a lot of players. They have, Al has 16, Smith has 11, Rocheck has 10, the other has eight, Miller has eight. There's a lot of points all around. Very balanced attack. Hillsdale has the ball.
Starting point is 00:55:27 McCormick with it at the top of the key. Swings it to Mills. Mills takes the three-point shot and it's good. Nice three-pointer from Sydney Mills. Score now 76 to 42. It's only the second three-point of the game for Hillsdale that's one end. See maybe we can go in a little bit of a run here. here. Patch and the defense
Starting point is 00:55:46 inside. Trying to work it in to Miller, I believe. She's no good on the shot. McDonald has it for the Chargers. Back up to Mills takes another three and it's another three pointer for
Starting point is 00:56:02 Sydney Mills. Back to back threes for Mills. Yeah. Great job there by Mills. Hellsill been cold most of the night, finally able to put together a couple three-pointers. They're certainly due to make some of those three-point shots. has it for the Eagles. Patch, good defense inside. A little too good. She's called for the foul on 25 Zoe Miller. Miller will shoot two from the free throw line. As Savannah Smith checks in
Starting point is 00:56:32 for Olivia Patch. Miller here is shooting two free throws. She's going to make the first. I'm a season. You got those season numbers? She is a 70% free throw shooter. That's pretty good. I know as a team they shoot 75%. She makes the second. It's 78.45 Ashland leads. McDonald with the ball. Trying to work it inside. Kicks it back out to McCormick.
Starting point is 00:57:02 Thinks about the three. Now she drives hard to the hoop. Little scoop layup. No good. Gets her own rebound. Tries to put it up with a left hand. Also no good. Ashton gets a rebound.
Starting point is 00:57:12 Really unfortunate there. I mean, that ball hung up on the rim for a couple extra seconds and then just rolled out. Yeah, it really looked like it could have fallen down, but just didn't go the Chargers way. Fortunately, it's been that kind of game. Spielman has it outside for the Eagles, trying to work it inside of number 42 Rochak. Rochak's pass is intercepted by McCormick.
Starting point is 00:57:32 Great defense from McCormick, and she gets the transition layup. Coast to coast from McCormick. Oh, also almost another steel on the inbound from McCormick. Good sequence for her. Yeah, great pace there too by McCormick, taking it all the way down, not stopping any momentum there.
Starting point is 00:57:48 Yoder has it outside, to handoff to Spielman back inside to Miller Miller unable to finish rebound chargers Caitlin Splain will bring it up lane dribbling at the top of the key passes it to smith passed to mills pass to mccormick mccormick drives left side no good handoff to macdonald who's cutting and the basket is good for loren macdonald yeah he'll still on a great run there forcing ashin to call a time out a nice little run for the chargers score is 7849 with seven minutes and 38 seconds left. And we will go to a quick media timeout.

Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. You're listening to Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball. Chargers down 78 to 49, but they've put together a nice little run here to start the fourth quarter. Yeah, forcing Ashland to call a timeout.
Starting point is 00:59:56 And Ashland with possession. It's Brockington. The Chargers is in a little bit. of a two three zone defense. I assume it's kind of a matchup zone. This one looks more like a real zone defense, though, than their first original zone defense. They've been playing mostly good.
Starting point is 01:00:15 Brockington, able to get a three-point shot from the corner. No good. Rebound, Splane, Splain and Brockington fighting for it. And Brockington called for the reach foul. It would be Hillsdale's ball. Yeah, it was a good job there by Splane, using her body to shield the ball off a little bit, I'm able to draw the foul.
Starting point is 01:00:34 Splain has it for the Chargers. Drilling to the top of the key. Passes it to McDonald, who almost loses the ball. Not called for a back court violation, able to save it just in time. McDonald has it. Driving around the left side,
Starting point is 01:00:50 trying to work it into the post, kicks it back out to Smith for three. No good. Mills tries to save the rebound, is unable to do it. Eagles have possession. Brockington will bring it. up trying to work it inside to smith instead they kick it outside to lexie howe for another three
Starting point is 01:01:11 and that three pointer is good lexie how now with 19 points for the eagles kately spain trying to force the issue little turn around jump shot no good rebound daniels the eagles are bringing it up now she swings it to brockington yeah it was a great shot there by spain though in rhythm just rolls around and rolls out Fortunately for the Chargers, Haley Smith, able to get wide open to the basket for an easy two points. It's 83 to 49 with six minutes remaining in the game. McDonald has it for the Chargers, top of the key. McDonald's uses the screen to take the three-point shot, no good, rebound to How.
Starting point is 01:01:54 How dribbling down to the corner. Mills defending, kicks it up to Brockington. Number 23, Sarah McKee is the one player inside Brockington, driving it around, uses a screen, puts up a layup, no good. Rebound Splane. Spain is running, trying to get something quick here. Kicks it back out to McDonald. McDonald's driving in the left side. Basket is good and the foul.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Lauren McDonald's the chance for a three-point play. As we've said, it hasn't been a great game for the Chargers, but Lauren McDonald's certainly playing well. Yeah, she currently has 18 points, a chance to get 19 here. She's been really one of the lone bright spots on Hillsdale tonight. Yeah, 18.6 rebounds and three assists. The number of chargers check in. McDonald's free throw is good.
Starting point is 01:02:45 Olivia Patch now in the game along with Sydney Panassic and number 15 Kendall McCormick. Brockington has it for the Eagles driving left side. No good. Kicks it up to Smith. Smith trying to go to work inside, which is called for a travel. before the shot.
Starting point is 01:03:06 And Olivia, excuse me, Caitlin Splain, will check in for Sydney Mills. Chargers down 83 to 52, with about five minutes left in the game. McDonald has it, kicks it to McCormick. Now Panosick at the top of the key. Inside to McCormick, she's in the paint, trying to go to work.
Starting point is 01:03:29 May have gotten away with a travel there, but she's unable to finish the basket. it. Rockington brings it up for the Eagles. Down to Daniels in the corner. Daniels drives the lane. Cross pass to Devere. Devere now drives him to the hoop.
Starting point is 01:03:47 Turns around back out to McKee. Inside to Smith. Pass is too high. Goes over everybody's head and out of bounds. It'll be the Chargers ball. And it looks like we'll be taking a quick media time out. You're listening to. to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM.

Chargers down 83 to 52. About five minutes remaining in the game. Senior day for the Chargers. We recognize three seniors, Danny Holbein, Sydney Mills, and Olivia Patch. Unfortunately, we're going up against the top-ranked team in the country today,
Starting point is 01:05:40 and they've played like it so far. Yeah, Hills will put together a strong fourth quarter so far, though. I believe they're outscoring Ashland in the fourth quarter. Yeah, playing hard until the end. Mills has it inside. First layup is no good, and she's fighting for the offensive rebound. And a jump ball is called it'll be Ashland's ball. As some new players have checked in for the Eagles, number four,
Starting point is 01:06:07 Sophia Nice. her first time in the game as well as number 11, Gia Casillanova. Yeah, Housel has done a great job in this fourth quarter, at least winning the fourth quarter 13 to 7 after a rough start to this game. Yeah, it's been difficult, like we said, playing against one of the best teams, maybe the best team in the country.
Starting point is 01:06:34 As the Eagles are able to make the basket inside and draw the foul, another chance for a three-point play. They like scoring three points at a time, don't they? They really do. Three-pointers and ones. This is a very solid Ashland team. Number 11, Gia Casanova at the line, sinks the free throw.
Starting point is 01:06:57 He's now 86 to 52 with less than four minutes remaining. Splane brings it up for the Chargers. Pick to number two, Danny Holbein. Inside, the number five, Sidney Mills and Ashland. is called for a foul, a reach-in foul on Mills. It was number 23, Sarah McKeel. Hillsdale will inbound it from underneath the basket as number 40, Emma Rulman and number one, Peyton Adkins,
Starting point is 01:07:27 checking the game for the Chargers. Atkins will inbound from underneath the hoop. Yeah, Hillsdale and Ashland, both trying to get a lot of their substitution players, get some players some more experience here in the game. You have some of the younger players in the game. Olivia Patch has it inside for the Chargers. No good. Rebound, Aschlin, they're pushing it quick.
Starting point is 01:07:55 And they lose the basketball. It's a turnover. Hillsdale has it. Atkins controls it. Hillsdale also putting in their seniors for the last couple of minutes this game. So all the senior day, seniors are able to finish out of this game, I believe. It's three seniors along with Roman and Atkins in there now as the Chargers draw a foul. I believe it was a shooting foul.
Starting point is 01:08:19 Yes, Danny Holbein will shoot two free throws. As Savannah Smith checks in the game for Olivia Patch, and applause here for Patch on Senior Day. Hallbine makes the first free throw. Score now 86 to 53 with 322 left in the game. Halbyn makes the second free throw as well. Eagles bring it up. It's number four.
Starting point is 01:08:52 Sophia Nice. Adkins defending. Mills switches it off. Chargers still in the zone defense. Trying to work it inside to number 20. But the pass goes out of bounds. It's a turnover. Chargers have it.
Starting point is 01:09:11 And now number two, senior Danny Holbein will check out of the game. Too much applause. here from the charge of crowd. Roman has it. Top of the key. Kicks it to Smith. Unfortunately, Smith loses it out of bounds. It'll be Eagles ball.
Starting point is 01:09:35 And senior Sidney Mills is the last senior in the game. Mills has had an extraordinary career at Hillsdale. Set multiple records. Huge block from Sydney Mills right there, right on cue. Chargers have the ball. Roman brings it up.
Starting point is 01:09:51 Yeah, she's one of the biggest rebounders in charge her history. I believe she's the third most rebounds in the single season. As she once again, back-to-back plays there for Sidney Mills, a block, and then an and-one layup. Great sequence there for Mills. She gets the block on the defensive end, and now is a chance for an and-one on the offensive end. What else can you say about Sidney Mills? She's been a great player. She's a great person in the community here at Hillsdale.
Starting point is 01:10:18 just about universally loved and she'll check out of the game here to much applause from this crowd. Yeah, over a thousand career points for her as well. Like we said, set multiple records here at Hillsdale. An emotional moment for Sidney Mills. Been a tough day for the Chargers
Starting point is 01:10:39 but great to honor the career that she's had and the rest of these seniors have had for this Hillsdale program. Two and a half minutes left. Chargers down, 86 to 57. Ashland with the ball, swinging around, getting inside the number 23 McKee. She's able to score.
Starting point is 01:11:01 Another two points for the Eagles. Roman has it for the charges at the top of the key. Looking for someone, hand off to Panasik. Panasic trying to get the back door cut. Not there. Ball out of bounds will stay with the charges. though. Last touch by Ashland. Yeah, everybody in the game right now for Hillsdale is either a freshman or a sophomore.
Starting point is 01:11:29 I need to see what a lot of the young players here can do. Smith has it outside. Tries the entry pass to the post, but it's intercepted. Ashland brings it up. Driving baseline. Reverse layup, no good. Rebound Panasic. She'll bring it up for the Chargers. Kicks it back to Savannah. Smith. Smith gives it to Rulman. Rulman driving on the right side. Little turnaround, no good.
Starting point is 01:12:00 It's stolen by the Eagles. It's number four, Nice. Nees misses the layup. A little upset with herself after that one. That was an easier transition basket. She had a lot of time. Just rush the shot a little bit, I think. Chargers have it.
Starting point is 01:12:17 It's Panasic outside. Trying to feed the ball. Inside, it's stolen. stolen once again by the Eagles, a little bit of a sloppy end to this game as we're approaching a minute left. Chargers down 88 to 57. Ashton will take another three. No good. Rebound, Rulman, slowly brings it up for the Hillsdale Chargers. Rulman still handing the ball. Panasset comes up, gets the pass. Smith setting a screen for Panasset. She uses it. They double off that. She's able to get the ball to Smith. makes a nice little mid-range jump shot.
Starting point is 01:12:57 Nice job there by Smith. Taken with the defense gave her. She had the roll in then she realized she had to stop because the lay-up was not going to be there and able to finish it. Asson was able to work the ball inside and get another short-range basket. That was number five.
Starting point is 01:13:12 Carly Prouse. Roman has it for the Chargers. 23 seconds left in the game. Chargers down 90 to 59. 15 seconds left. Roman has it. Smith coming up to set the screen. She tries the three-pointers.
Starting point is 01:13:35 The defense fell down. Chargers save it before it goes out of bounds, but that will be the end of the game. Your final score is Ashland 90, Hillsdale, 59. Great performance shooting from the Ashland Eagles. Hillsdale showed a lot of fight, but it's hard to win a game when your opponent plays that well offensively and defensively. Yeah, shooting very well for the Aston Aco's.
Starting point is 01:14:01 But up very soon here now, we have the men's game. So stick around for that as you listen to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
