Women's Basketball: Hillsdale vs. Cedarville, 01/30/25Lewis Thune and Paden Hughes on the call for WRFH

Roche Athletics Complex inside the Don Tibbitts Potter Arena, Lewis Thune, alongside Payton Hughes, as we gear up, to give you some great division to women's basketball tonight between the Hillsdale College Chargers and the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. Well, Payton, these teams have met once before this season. As a matter of fact, about only two weeks

ago on January 11th in which the charges took the game 7162 what do you think we're going to see here tonight from hillsdale i think we're going to see a lot of really great play tonight in fact hillsdale's coming off a really great performance this last saturday against finley that was a battle for the conference lead and hillsdale ended up winning that battle allowing less than 65 points they spent a lot of time working in the paint spreading the ball around to all their players no one scored over 10 points but everyone had a lot of points on the board it was a great play overall for Hillsdale and they came out with a W. I think we're going to see a lot of the same stuff today against the Cedarville team who is sub 500 on the season and Hillsdale team is coming off a

very hot win. Indeed you mentioned that Cedarville enters today's game 8 and 10 on the season, whereas Hillsdale is looking strong with 12 and 6 having an eight game winning streak broken last week against Ashland but recovering Saturday against Finley and a nail biter of a performance which they pulled the way and what was a really really a team effort on the other side cedarville has dropped the past four games including that one at hillsdale back on the 11th what they can have to do to rebound here tonight and steal the win here at hillsdale's home court they're just going to have to shoot better they haven't been playing right to their capabilities and they're facing a really strong hillsdale team on defense hillsdale has been allowing a lot less than 65 points they've played a lot of their last

several games, sub-60 points in the 50-point range, and Hillsdale tends to win those games. Whenever they allow less than 65 points, Hillsdale has won the last six. That's true. And some bright spots for Cedarville, a very young lineup on this team. A lot of freshmen and redshirt freshmen, but the two bright spots in this year have been Ellis Sellers and Chloe Downing for Cedarville. They've been leading the jackets on and off the court. Two freshmen, two great seasons. Sellers has worked away into the start. lineup downing has been there the guard and forward respectively but the jackets are going to need some real contributions from their role players tonight as we've already seen hillsdale seems to have

cedarville's number the game on the 11th hillsdale was in the driver's seat almost the entire game looked very comfortable and we've already seen hillsdale's ability to pull games out in the close moments just last saturday against finley and a game that was back and forth and back and forth. Hillsdale pulled it out and won. And so tonight, as we get ready here for the tip off, let's catch ourselves up on the starting lineup for Hillsdale. It looks like Hillsdale will be sending out their standard starting five for the past couple weeks here. The forwards will be number 21, Savannah Smith and number 40 Emma Rulman. The guards will be Kendall McCormick, Lauren McDonald, and Caitlin Splain.

And we're entering what might be a special night here at Hillsdale with regards to guard Caitlin Splain, Baden? She has had a great season so far. She's nearing 1,000 career points at Hillsdale. She's only 13 points away. She's coming off a nine-point performance against Finley at home on Saturday. And she's been shooting a three ball really well. She shot over 40% on Saturday.

I think we're going to see a lot of that out of tonight. And I expect her to break that thousand-point threshold. Yeah, that one-two punch from Hillsdale. with Lauren McDonald and Cately Splain has been electric all year. They've been putting up scores after scores and especially in clutch moments. And then down low in the post, Savannah Smith

and Emma Rulman have been fighting hard and fighting that. Defensively, been looking spectacular. We saw that just last week against Fidley. And what was really a battle for Smith and she was able to capitalize in the second half and really drag Hillsdale's defense back into the game. And Rulman has been solid throughout the season.

offensively around the perimeter, passing the ball, and defensively electric on the switches on and off and really anchoring the defense there. So Hillsdale's entering this game, feeling very comfortable. But Cedarville, again, some really upshot freshmen. They've seen some electric streaks throughout this season, started out extremely strong. And they're hoping to seize the season back

because there's still a bubble team in the G-Mex and in the Division II women's tournament. So we could really see here. Cedarville is in need to win mode. And this game and the ones immediately following it are really to save their season. So the teams make their way to center court. It looks like Cedarville has sent out as they're starting 5. Number 22, Casey Kyle.

Number 11, L.S. Sellers. Number 10, Chloe Downing. Number 21, Reagan Hubert. And it looks like number zero. Brianna Zaycheck as the opening tip we are underway here at the Don Tibbetts Potter Arena it goes Hillsdale's way Smith tips the ball back and Hillsdale will look to control the offense Splane at the top of the key entry pass to Smith and back out to McCormick Splane catches the ball on the off ball screen and with minimal space off a screen from Smith

Splane pulls up and puts in the two very nice opening possession for Hillsdale and is Two zero here with 30 seconds gone in the first quarter. Cedarville looking very patient on offense right now, moving the ball around the top of key. And she passes inside to Casey Kyle. She looked to kick it out to the corner to Ella Sellers and it was tipped by Lauren McDonald. So it will be Cedarville ball here with about 14 seconds left on the shot clock. Inbounding under their basket is number 11 L. Sellers. Cedarville moving the ball around the top of the key.

No one post player here. Looks like five out and a lot of offball cuts for Cedarville. Shot clock runs low. Last minute runner is put up by Ellis Sellers with the left hand and she puts it in. A very, very nice shot there. Some great focus for Ellis Sellers with the clock running low off the drive to put the ball up, trust her instinct and get it in the hoop.

So Hillsdale will take the ball here, 2-2 game. Splane at the top of the key. Driving against Kyle. passes inside to Savannah Smith. Savannah Smith dribbles puts up a layup. It's no good. She tips the rebound back to Lauren McDonald, who passes to Emma Rulman. Rulman dribbles into the post, puts up a shot,

and it's no good. Cedarville with the rebound. Eight and a half minutes to play in the first quarter, a two-two game. Reagan, Hubert, with a ball for Cedarville. Again, an extremely patient offense. Not looking to create anything fast. It's a big break for Hillsdale because in the previous week's game against Finley.

It was really speed that killed Hillsdale, and that was the reason Finley was almost able to pull the game out. So looks like a foul called on Savannah Smith for Hillsdale. Common foul off ball. So Cedarville will end down once again. Kyle with the ball passes to Hubert. Hubert dribbles in. The two-pointer runner once again is good.

Cedarville. 4-2 leads Hillsdale here. Two excellent possessions for Cedarville. Rulman will bring the ball up for Hillsdale. Passes to McCormick. McCormick left to the basket dribbles in, left hand, puts up a layup, and it's good. Lestellers left the lane open there for Kendall McCormick, and Kendall McCorick said thank you very much, putting in that two-point shot.

Zaycheck passes inside to Kyle, and Kyle with the easy basket. It looked like a lapse in defense there for Hillsdale. Now what we saw right there, Lewis, is Cedarville playing full court press, playing man up in the front court, and Hillsdale just wasn't ready for it. We'll see if they can get back from it, but it's going to be Cedarville ball. So thus far, Cedarville's offense hasn't really been prioritizing speed, but we saw there on the defense, really, really nice call there as they moved into the full court press way early in the game. But they put enough pressure on Hillsdale there, forced him toss a careful.

pass and Cedarville was able to get the ball off of a turnover. So they'll have a chance to extend their lead here up 6-4. Passing the ball around the perimeter. The shot is up by Ella Sellers and it's no good. The rebound to Caitlin Splain will immediately look to run the ball in transition. She puts up a layup on the fast break but it's no good. A close contest there from Chloe Downing. Cedarville runs in the fast break and shot is no good from Reagan-Hubert.

Rebound is taken by Kendall McCormick, passed to Lauren McDonald, who is foul, looks like a reach there on Cedarville. That was a great hustle play from Laura McDonald. She got down court really fast. She was able to jump up high, get a block, stop that shot from going in for Cederville,

stop that early fast break. And now it's Hillsdale ball as they get to go back down the court, and we'll see what they can do. And characteristic, two substitutions for Hillsdale. It looks like Annalise Petrie.

Triswick and Ellie Bruce in for Savannah Smith and Kendall McCormick. Ellie Bruce doing exactly what she did on Saturday, getting quick into the post, getting it up, and there's nearly two points. Hillsdale immediately looked to get the ball down court against the soft press, and it worked perfectly as they were able to get a quick pass down to Ellie Bruce in the paint, and she had an easy uncontested too. The steal from Lauren McDonald's as Cedarville looked to set up their offense. McDonald with a pass on the fast break to Bruce, and Bruce will score again.

four points in about 15 seconds for Ellie Bruce and Hillsdale takes an 8-6 lead here with about six minutes left in the first quarter. Cedarville's offense is going to look to set up. You've seen Hillsdale's defense now moving to be a little bit more aggressive, kind of matching that defensive pace set by Cedarville with their soft full court press. Eight seconds left on the shot clock. Zaycheck puts up a shot. It's no good.

Rebounded by McDonald, who will look to bring the ball up for Hillsdale. McDonnell, hands off to Splane. Splane with a deep three. It's good. That must have been five, six feet off the three-point line. Splane with zero hesitation, puts up the deep ball, and that's a three for Hillsdale. They'll move up five points here, 11 to 6.

Cedarville looking to answer with a three of their own. Open in the corner. Right there is number 21 Reagan Hubert, and the ball bounces around on the rim for second or two and rolls in. So Cedarville answers with a three. of their own. They were able to get Hubert open on an off ball screen in the corner. She had her shot and she took it. Petrizzik dribbles

in, passes to Ellie Bruce and Ellie Bruce again, two points. And that's a quick six for Ellie Bruce since checking into the game, only about a minute and a half ago. Cedarville looking to answer. Both offenses looking spectacular here halfway through the first quarter. Cedarville, ball at the elbow. It's downing. Downing dribbles. Entry pass.

And it looks like it hit a Hillsdale foot. So it'll be Cedarville ball as we take a immediate timeout. The players will sit down and talk it over. We'll take a short break. We all have a story. Hillsdale up 13-9. And Peyton, it's been a quick turnaround for Hillsdale. Cedarville jumped out to an early leave. quick substitution there and all of a sudden Hillsdale sees the game it seemed like in a span of two minutes it's a really fast offense what did we see there when Hillsdale put Ellie Bruce back in the game she was able to work that post and work her hide advantage she is six foot two the tallest player on the floor for Cedarville is 511 that's Chloe Downing and Ellie Bruce has made her presence known she already has six points in the first couple minutes she's been in the game we want to see Hillsdale continue to use

that she's been stellar on defense as well Cedarville has not been able to work work the pain or work any of their slashing cuts from their five-out offense. We're going to see what they do here, though. Ellie Bruce has looked extremely comfortable thus far in this game. Only been in for about two minutes, but it's been a spectacular two minutes for her. Has looked unbothered by the Cedarville defense as they've tried to swarm on those entry passes down low. And she's three for three from the field with six points. So Cedarville inbounds the ball.

Only 10 seconds on the shot clock. And looks like an offensive foul. A block. Looks like a block and a legal screen possibly against Cedarville. And so Hillsdale will take the ball. Cedarville, again, in a soft press. Caitlin Splain is able to get herself open. She runs in transition and shot was no good.

Was there a foul called? No, no. The shot was ruled, touched by Cedarville and bounced out of bounds. So Hillsdale will take the ball. No foul called on the play from the inbound pass. McDonnell gets open in the corner, shoots, and it's no good. Rebounded by Ella Sellers for Cedarville as they look to answer this Hillsdale offense in their quick response.

Cedarville passing the ball around the top of the key. It's MNF for Cedarville. Passes to Reagan, Hubert. Hubert dribbles into the elbow, takes a jump shot. It's no good. And neither team is able to grab the rebound, bounces out, ruled out on Cedarville. So Hillsdale will take the ball. Cedarville still in this full court press.

The inbound is to Lauren McDonald passes back to Emma Rulman. The press is broken and Hillsdale is in the front court. McDonald will control the ball here. Four minutes left in the first quarter. Hillsdale still up 13-9. Petrizzac with the ball left of center court. Hillsdale rifles the ball around the perimeter, attempted to enter it to Savannah Smith,

who was tipped by Cedarville, so that'll be a turnover as Cedarville will take over. Reagan, Hubert with the ball. Screen was set, Hubert didn't use it. And the Neff for Cedarville dribbles into the elbow. Looked like she wanted to put up a shot, attempted to pass it down into the low post, and it was intercepted by Hillsdale. So Cedarville turns the ball right back over into Hillsdale's hands. Lauren McDonald ball, the top of the key, enters to Savannah Smith.

Smith alone down low with number 14. Jenna Sandel puts a shot up. It's no good, but the foul is called against Cedarville on the play. And so Smith will go to the line shooting too. So neither offense looked great. After that short time out, we took there halfway through the quarter, but defense has taken a step up, babe. Defense has definitely taken a step up.

What we've seen is little faults from Cedarville on offense They're trying to work this five out, but they're only cutting from below the basket, which means that they have to pass through the paint. And Hillsdale's been able to clog that clog inside the paint, and no pass is able to get through. It's led to do a lot of steals. I think we need to see a lot more movement from both teams. Smith makes both free throws, and Cedarville will have the ball here.

15-9 Hillsdale game. Casey Kyle with the ball for Cedarville, passes to Hubert. Hubert, again, driving into the paint, puts up a hook shot, and puts it in. Cedarville in the press still. Inbound is to Petrizik, passes back to Rulman. Hillsdale's able to break the press, and they immediately look to get the ball to Lauren McDonald here

with two and a half left in the first quarter. McDonald passes out to McCormick, who enters it into Savannah Smith once again, alone inside. Pounds the ball on the ground twice, puts it up off the glass. That's two points for Savannah Smith, and two more points from the post for Hillsdale, getting them at 10 on the night. Maya Borgette with the ball for Cedarville.

Passes to Downing. Downing a post player out on the perimeter. Passes to Neff for Cedarville. Downing sets the screen. Neff dribbles left. Ball still with Borgette. Borgette passes corner. Reagan Hubert and puts in another three.

Great night so far for Reagan Hubert. Keeping Cedarville close here, 1714 Hillsdale, as they once again break the Cedarville. It's Annalise Petrizik with the ball. Passes to Lauren McDonald on the right side. McDonald drives. Right hand is her dominant hand. Kicks out to Emma Rulman.

Rulman puts in the two-point shot. Assist to Lauren McDonald there. Rulman, zero hesitation from mid-range. Two-point shot. It's Hillsdale's game 1914 as Cedarville will look to answer. Casey Kyle with the ball for Cedarville. Screen is by downing. Kyle dribbles to the basket.

Ball is caught up with Hillsdale. Kyle's able to retain it. attempts to pass it out and it's intercepted by Lauren McDonald who looks to run in transition. McDonald loses the ball off her foot. Cedarville takes over a minute left to play in this first quarter. Neff with the ball up top, dribbles right toward the paint and kicks out to Borgette. Borgette in the right corner. Dribbles back out to the center of the court looks to set up the offense.

Two-man game. Downing sets the screen. Borgett puts up the three and hits nothing. Petrizik takes the ball for Hillsdale, passes to McDonald. Cedarville gets back on defense. 50 seconds left to play in the first quarter. McDonald passes to Rulman. Right side.

Smith in the paint was open. Rulman passes instead to McCormick who enters to Smith. And another two points for Savannah Smith. That puts her at six. Ellie Bruce at six for the Hillsdale forwards. Hillsdale up 2114 here. 28 seconds left to play in the first quarter and 20 on the shot clock for Cedarville. So Hillsdale will take the last shot.

Downing with the ball, right side by the elbow, passes out to Emma Neff. Again, the two-man game screened by Downing. Neff to Borgette. Borgette dribbles out. Can't get inside. Dribbles left to the hoop and scores. As the shot clock expires,

four seconds. McDonald takes the inbound for Hillsdale, dribbles up. Long three-point shot for McDonald's off the dribbles. is no good. So Hillsdale will emerge from the first quarter with a 21-16 lead. A spectacular offensive showing from both teams here in this first quarter, Payton?

This is looking exactly like how both teams want it. They're working ball inside. They're working ball outside. We've seen a couple made threes from both teams. Both teams are over 15 points and it's only the first quarter. We're looking for a high possession, high-score game. They're both moving very fast. I think we need to see a lot more

movement inside from Hillsdale that's been their bread and butter this entire game. They have 14 points inside the paint. Compare that to Cedarville, who's been moving a lot outside, trying to get some good cuts in. They need to get more one-on-win situations. They've been able to move really fast and been able to take advantage of those isolations. However, when they keep just swinging the ball outside, they've been caught stuck and they've been able to make bad passes inside the lane and get turnovers. They need to be able to make better one-on-one moves, and they've been driving to the paint and doing really well in those situations.

Offense is the story here at the end of the first quarter. We will take a short break as the coaches talk to their players and prepare for the second quarter. Passes to Reagan Huber. He's been offensively great for Cedarville. Loose ball as Cedarville attempted to enter the ball.

The number 10, Chloe Downing in the post, jump ball called and possession to Hillsdale, as they will take this ball. And now we see another key substitution for Hillsdale. Sidney Panasic in for Emma Rulman. Let's see what kind of impact that makes. Hillsdale with Ellie Brew. in the game as well.

Caitlin Splain alone at the top of the key makes a move and puts up a floater. It's good for Caitlin Spley. She inches closer to 13 points on the day and 1,000 on the career. Cedarville finds Reagan, Hubert, open in the corner and she misses. She likes the corner spot, but

missed that one there. Cedarville's able to corral the rebound. So 15 seconds on the shot clock for Cedarville. They drive. The shot is up by Zajek. and rebounded by Hillsdale. 2316, Hillsdale, Splain, again, looking to run quickly. Pass from Splein out to the perimeter to Sarah Alec Novicious. No good, and Cedarville will take the ball. Cedarville again, allowing Hubert to control the ball.

Not setting up the two-man look, looking to get the ball to downing on the perimeter, downing the post player. Off ball screen opens up number 11 L. But it's no good for her three. Splane with the rebound. Looks to run transition for Hillsdale, but thinks better of it. The entry is to Allie Bruce. And charge is called smart response there from Cedarville, hoping to take that charge as

Ellie Bruce was posting up and already three for three on the day. So the charge is called on Bruce and Cedarville will take the ball. That was exactly what Cedarville wanted to do. They brought down Reagan, Huber, to have assist defense there. She was able to get the charge call, get right into position. Ellie Bruce could not convert right around her. So Cedarville, smart adjustment taking the charge on Ellie Bruce, and they will take the ball down seven here in the second quarter.

2316. Still moving the ball around the perimeter. Nothing going inside. The passes to Neff to Zaychik. Zaychik, isolated on Ellie Bruce, makes a move, puts up a two. It's no good. with the rebound and Hillsdale will run the ball again. Still up seven.

Splane dribbles up, takes a three. No good, but rebounded by Ellie Bruce out to Sydney Panasic. The entry passes to Bruce. Fowl is called on the ground and against Cedarville. That was number zero, Brianna Zaychick.

And Hillsdale will control the ball as Ellie Bruce checks out and Savannah Smith back into the game. Splane will end down under the basket as Hillsdale. sets their offense on the low and high post. The inbound is to Panassick. Splane in the corner.

Splane puts up a close contested three. It's no good. Went about halfway down the basket before rimming out. And the rebound is to Cedarville. Cedarville with the ball. Maya Borgette, attempting to penetrate once again, puts up a two. And he's able to get the foul called on Caitlin. That was smart to see the contact there from Maya Bursette

and get the shot up while she. she could get the foul call. Exactly. They've been trying to go after this isolated situation. She gets the foul there. She gets to go to the charity strike. But what we saw in this last possession was another Caitlin Splain 3. We've seen five three-point attempts from Hillsdale already.

Three from Splain herself. We've seen six three-point attempts from Cedarville. That's 11 three-point attempts just in the first few minutes of this game. I wonder how we're going to see this going forward. It's a tough shot to make for Bragette, but she felt Splaine's arm on her and instinctively put the shot up and got the foul call. as she puts in the first free throw and Hillsdale head coach Brianna Brennan takes Splaine out of the game.

Checking in in her place number 23, Annalise Petrizik. Borgette misses the second free throw and Lauren McDonald will bring the ball up for Hillsdale seven minutes to play in the second quarter Hillsdale up 2317. The entry pass, Petrizik to Panasic to Smith

and Smith. Two points for Hillsdale on that possession. Really quick ball. movement. Cedarville will look to answer here. Once again, Bershette, looking to drive. Thinks better of it, pulls back and puts up a two with space against McDonald. But it's no good.

McDonald, given the ball to bring it up for Hiltdale and Berset with a reach called. And it'll be Hillsdale ball here with a comfortable eight-point lead in the second quarter of play. Now, Cedarville was trying to use Brianna Zaycheck there. Their user as an off ball screen that she could get to pick and roll. But Hillsdale just wasn't biting. They were playing very smart defense, playing slow. They were able to stay in position, and Cedarville wasn't able to get it to Zaycheck and get a good shot off.

Cedarville seems very restless on offense, trying to get Borgette, some looks as Hillsdale and bounds the ball. Petrissick drives in. McDonald passes back to Panassick. Panassick for three no-good rebounded by Petrissick. Patrissick passes back out to Panassic. and McDonald will take the ball at the top of the key center court

McDonald dribbling around pass back to Panassick and Panasic good this time from three as she will put Hillsdale up double digits here 2817 in the second quarter and so Cedarville this offense has

been quiet so far this half looking to answer Neff passes the ball to Zaychik Zaychik holding the ball passes to Reagan, Hubert. Hubert, dribbles, pulls back, and around to the top of the elbow. Nothing going. No penetration there for Cedarville. A hasty shot from Cedarville off the drive from number 11 L.S.ellers, and it's no good. So Hillsdale will take her a tremendous defensive possession from Hillsdale.

They'll look to answer. McDonald passes out to Savannah Smith, who takes the three. No good for Smith. uncharacteristic three-point shot there from savannah smith but do you make that one that's a huge momentum boost for hillsdale cedarville still down 11 and looking to respond sellers drives in takes a two looks like she's fouled but no no call against hillsdale and they will take the the ball off the rim and the miss and look to respond mcdonald in the post takes the pass from annelice petrizzic assist to Petrizik. McDonald puts in the two.

It's 30 to 17 Hillsdale. This game is opening up, and that does not help for Cedarville. Sellers attempts to move the ball to Maya Borgette on the perimeter, and Borgette drops the pass. Hillsdale is firing on all cylinders right here. From the three ball, from inside, they can do no wrong right now.

They're up 13 points, 30 to 17 with 444 on the clock. Cedarville has been playing a very slow offense. except they've been trying to run screens off of that slow offense. And what that's done is that's been able for Hillsdale to play tight but play slow. So they haven't been able to get caught up in those screens. They've been able to stay on their man and they haven't gotten lost. Cedarville needs to pick up the pace if they want to keep using these screens to their maximum efficiency. So the call is out off of Borgette.

It'll be Hillsdale ball up 30 to 17 with a little under five to play in this second quarter as the teams take a brief media timeout, and we will do the same. Mid-second quarter Hillsdale Women's Basketball that charges up 30 to 17 on the Cedarville yellow jackets with the ball here as we resume for the second half of the second quarter. A tough full court press for Cedarville. Nearly the five-second violation called against Hillsdale.

but Rulman was able to get the pass out to Splain, had to put it through two Cedarville defenders, but they got it in. And Hillsdale looks to enter the ball in the post to Lourne McDonald. A foul is called against Cedarville. He's against number 21 Reagan-Huberd. It's the two were battling down in the post, and Cedarville's been trying to respond

any way they can defensively for Hillsdale. We've seen a lot of Cedarville players touch the floor so far into the second quarter, but nothing going, Lauren McDonald puts up a three for Hillsdale. It's no good. Rebounded by Ellie Bruce. Bruce puts up a two.

It's no good. Reagan, Hubert, for Cedarville, rebounds the ball. And Cedarville will look to close this 13-point deficit as the second quarter winds down. Hubert, sole control of the ball here. Passes to number 33, Samantha Tony. It passes to Brianna Zaychick. The left side of the court into the corner to Hubert, swings the ball. And the ball is.

in the post of Tony. She puts up a two-point shot. It is no good. And in the attempt to grab the rebound, a foul is called against Cedarville. So Hillsdale will take the ball here. Four minutes left to play in the second quarter against this Cedarville full court press. They'll look to get the inbound pass. Passes to McDonald. Back to Rulman. Rulman gets the ball past half court. And sees an open lane drives. It's up a two-point shot. Another foul is called. Looks like once again in the air against Cedarville against number 21, Reagan Hubert. Their top score today.

So Emma Rulman will go to the line for Hillsdale, looking to extend this lead to 15. Arena quiet is Rulman puts up the first free throw. It's no good. She'll get the second here with McDonald and Bruce down jockeying for this rebound. Shot is up. And it's good. So Rulman, one of two from the line.

3117 Hillsdale, Cedarville will take the ball. Reagan, Hubert, bringing the ball up for Cedarville, right side of the court. Looks to drive for a moment there, but nothing going. The pass is out to Casey Kyle and back to Hubert, handoff to Kyle. Kyle dribbles to the left side of the court off a screen to Zayek. Zaychik had a momentary shot open at 3, but she drives in, puts up a two-point shot, and the foul is called against Emma Rulman. Again, a good drive there from Zaycheck, saw the contact with Rulman, got the shot up, and got the foul called.

So Rulman will check out for Hillsdale and number 11, Sidney Panassick will come in for her. It doesn't show on the statistics, but number 33, Samantha Tony, subbing in for Cedarville out of the media timeout, has already made an impact. See, she's 6'3 and she's using her height difference in her size to be able to block out Ellie Bruce. They're using that to get a drive for their point guard. And we already see the impact there with two points. You've seen Hillsdale hasn't been entering the ball to its tall post like Smith and Bruce. Since Tony checked in, they've been looking to get Lauren McDonald open off of screens in the low post.

As Cedarville comes back out in its full court press, ball will stay with Hillsdale, 3118. Zaychick goes one of two from the line. Panassic inbound to McDonald and McDonald will look to take the ball up herself. against Hubert and she succeeds. Passes to Kendall McCormick. And inside pass to Sidney Panassick, who might look to post out.

Thinks better if it passes out to Lauren McDonald, who puts up a three immediately, closely guarded by Zaychik. But it's good for Lauren McDonald, 3418 Hillsdale, a spectacular offensive showing still here in the second quarter under three minutes to play. Cedarville looking for anything offensively.

can't get the ball into hoop right now. The passes to Hubert in the corner. She puts up another corner three off the rim and over the backboard. Out of bounds off of Cedarville. Hillsdale will take the ball. And this full court press, it looked quite good early for Cedarville, but since then, Hillsdale's had no problem breaking it. No, not at all.

They've been moving the ball. Normally threw him a Rulman back into Caitlin Splain and back to Rulman. Cedarville hasn't been able to work on that. Romans be able to get up court really quick. What we saw there just now was Panasic into Splain back to Panosic and once again Cedarville couldn't do anything about it. Now we're in the one-in-one. So head coach Brianna Brennan for Hillsdale is going to take Lauren McDonald out and give her the two minutes, 40 seconds left on the clock in addition to halftime in order to get some rest. The foul was called against Cedarville on Splana Reach. Checking in for McDonald is number four

Magdalena Solarski. as Splane makes the first free throw, and it is 35, 18, puts up the second. Likewise, good. Two more points for Splane, ever closer to 13 on the day, 1,000 on the career. 36, 18, Hillsdale, doubling up Cedarville right now is Cedarville will look to answer. It's Eminem Neff on the perimeter dribbles right. Hands off to Casey, Kyle. Casey dribbles back to the center of the court, gets inside in the paint, puts up a two,

looked open, but rims out against Splean. Smith with the rebound passes to Solarski. Solarski tosses a long pass to Kendall McCormick. It's tipped by Reagan-Hubert as they look to run the fast break out off of Cedarville. So Hillsdale will have the ball in their front court. But that Cedarville full court press you saw there was able to force a careless pass. And that'll be a turnover in almost any game there. But Hubert wasn't able to corral it for the turnover.

Hillsdale will take it inbound to Salarsky pass to Splane, left side of the court. that Splain on oh it looks it looks like she was she was going up for a drive there she thought better immediately and put up a three almost looked like she's second-guessed it bounced in and out so almost a nice three-point shot there from Caitlin's but no good as Cedarville takes the ball Cedarville careless pass it's taken by Hillsdale McCormick sprints down the court has the ball batted out of her hands as she was looking to put up a shot. It was paralled by Savannah Smith.

Smith puts up the two and it's good. So Hillsdale taking a 20-point lead, 3818 with a minute and a half to play in the second quarter. Cedarville trying to get this offense going. It needs a field goal. In the corner is MNF putting up a three. It's no good. And foul is called against Cedarville. did not look like there was any contact there, but

reach was called against Reagan Hubert off of the rebound. And so Hillsdale will once again go to the line. And I believe that's the third foul on Hubert, which is critical for Cedarville. She's been really their offensive right spot so far in this game. That is exactly the third foul. And I think we're going to have to see her playing a lot less on ball. She's going to have to play a lot safer.

And that's going to impact Hillsdale scoring even more than what we're already at. 38 points. Hillsdale is scoring very efficiently. They're getting the ball inside the paint. Savannah Smith has been very effective. Caitlin's playing already with nine points. She has four more to go to be a thousand points in her Hillsdale career. McCormick makes the first and the second,

and that really is the disadvantage of the full court press for Cedarville as you open yourself up to a lot of careless fouls as you're going for that ball. Credit to Reagan Hubert, she's been doing tremendous offensively and defensively, but that's a questionable foul call. She was not happy with it, but she checks out of the game here. We probably won't see her until midway through the third quarter with three fouls here.

Hillsdale attempting to break that full court press. And it looks like foul is called against Hillsdale as Magdalena Solarsky was attempting to grab the pass. She had a good contest there from Cedarville and evidently Solarsky grabbed a wrist. So Cedarville will take the ball here under a minute to play in the second quarter. Neff passes out to Kyle. Kyle puts up a three and it's good.

There's that field goal for Cedarville. They'll break 20 points on the half. It's 40 to 21 Hillsdale. Hillsdale, 38 seconds left to play. Splane brings the ball up. Splane passes to Petrizzik. Petrizzik hands off to Solarski at center court. Solarsky with the entry pass to Smith.

A spectacular pass. Smith looked to put it up quickly, but it was blocked by Chloe Downing. Cedarville takes the ball. Shot clock is off as there's 20 seconds left to play. And Borgette will have the ball for Cedarville and look to hold it. Borgette bounce past to Downing at the top of the key back to Borgette. Downing looks like a two-man screen. Borgette does not like the screen goes the other way. And foul is called against Cedarville.

not quite see for what it looked like Chloe Downing reached out in arm and that was enough to get the illegal screen call so Hillsdale will take the ball four point seven seconds left Solarski breaks open doesn't quite get the pass passes back and shots just thrown up for Hillsdale right around half court it is no good and that is your half-time score ladies gentleman 40 to 21 the Hillsdale offense has looked electric so far Peyton they've been shooting 50% from the field 15 from 30 and I don't know what more they can do. They've been having their way with this Cedarville defense. Working the ball inside, working them all outside,

making from the three point, making from the post. Savannah Smith has been electric. You've seen Ellie Bruce doing really well too. Cedarville just can't get going offensively. They had five points in that second quarter. What looks like it was going to be a massive shootout has now turned into a Hillsdale dominance. And two of those points were from the free throw line.

They made one shot from the third. field in that second quarter and that was a three point shot by Casey Kyle. But on the other side, Hillsdale, offense has been doing what it wants. Early on in the first quarter, we saw that in the post. Cedarville was able to make an adjustment checking in Samantha, Tony for Downing. And evidently Tony's size made a difference there, but Hillsdale was able to respond. Yeah, I mean, right now what we're seeing is two main storylines. How much more can the Hillsdale defense do?

only allowing five points in the second quarter. That's fantastic. But the second storyline is Caitlin Splain. Four points away from 1,000 on her career. That is a tremendous milestone. I hope that we see a break in the third quarter. Yes, so 40 to 21 here at halftime as the Hillsdale Chargers are having their way

Welcome back here, Don Tibbitts Potter Arena, as we gear up for the second half of tonight's basketball action between the Hillsdale College Chargers and the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. The score is 40 to 21 in favor of Hillsdale. second quarter was a spectacle to behold after an extremely close and offensively strong first quarter from both sides second quarter just blew the game wide open that's exactly right from the first quarter we saw 21 to 16 this game looked like it was going to be a very high scoring game with very high power offenses but in the

second quarter that just all changed for Cedarville they scored five points three of those coming in the last minute of the game a minute of the second of the first half now what we see of Hillsdale, they still scored 19 points. Their offense is on the same space. They're imposing their will. They're doing their best. They're scoring inside the paint. They're scoring outside of the paint. It's exactly what you could want. They have 20 points in the paint. That's half. That's right where you want to be. Compare that to Cedarville. Only eight of their 21 points are coming in the paint. Hillsdale is dominating inside. I hope we see this trend continue. Ellie Bruce and Savannah Smith have been incredible. And worse yet for Cedarville, their leading scorer,

player who's played the most minutes for them on the season by 50 would be Reagan, Hubert, just an absolute tank for them. But she's got three fouls despite being their leading score tonight, three fouls. And Cedarville's going to have to rally with presumably Reagan Huber out for a significant part of this second half. On the other side of Hillsdale, you've got Caitlin, who's four points away from 1,000 on her Hillsdale career. So we'll be monitoring that closely here in the second half as Cedarville has the first possession. Hubert back on the court for Cedarville. She passes immediately to Casey Kyle.

Kyle puts up a three with no defense on her and makes that three. It's 40 to 24. So a nice start of the half for Cedarville as Hillsdale with the starters back out on the court. McCormick, Splain, Rulman, McDonald, Smith. Splean dribbles into a trap with Ella Sellers. Sellers with the steel, runs in fast break, bounce past a Casey Kyle. Kyle, with a close contested layup on the run, puts it in.

Two points off the turnover for Cedarville, 40 to 26, right now at the beginning of the third quarter, as Hillsdale will look to keep control over this game. Rulman with the ball at the top of the key. Splain cuts open off and off ball screen. But the passes to McDonald, short pass to Savannah Smith at the elbow. Takes an open two-point shot, but it's no good.

Rebound for McDonald. Passes once again to Smith. Smith in closer now. Another two-point shot, no good. Rebound is to Emma Rulman. Rulman looks like Cedarville attempted to take the charge there. Rulman, however, was unfazed. No call.

Rulman put up the shot and was fouled from behind. those three quick shots for Hillsdale inside the paint, not trying anything outside. That's exactly what that works for them in the first half, and it looks like they're going back to it. A hectic, just a hectic series of events there as two bodies hit the floor. Rulman looks like she was unguarded there for a second foul

from behind. Smith putting up two shots. Not the kind of possession you want to see from Hillsdale, but Rulman misses the first, and the second as Cedarville grabs the rebound and immediately runs down court. That's Casey Kyle. Kyle passes out to Hubert at the top of the key. Hubert drives.

She finds Ella Downing. That is three straight possessions for Cedarville with seven points. What they've been doing is they've been moving very fast. We didn't see that in the first half. They took slow methodical possessions, but now they're moving quick and they're seeing points. A spectacular pass, a absolutely spectacular pass from Reagan, Hubert. Some great vision as she was driving in.

She found Downing, and Downing had just enough space to get the two-point shot. off. So it's a 40 to 28 game. Cedarville has closed the deficit. Our foul is called on Caitlin. Hillsdale looks like they were in a bit of a rush to put up a Laskett. Splane attempted to reach around the Cedarville defender to grab the rebound and was called for the foul. So Splain will check out of the game still four points away from a thousand as will Savannah Smith as Ellie Bruce and Annalise Petrissic come in for the two of them. Cedarville with the ball down 12. A strong opening here to be. this third quarter, only two minutes in. Casey Kyle with the ball at the top of the key.

Kyle puts up the three-point shot. It looked good, but bounces off the front rim and rolls out. McDonald with the rebound, runs it down court for Hillsdale, extremely fast. puts a shot up against the double team close into the basket. Very close, rolls out, Cedarville, and they will look to run. Extremely fast-paced turn here in the first three minutes of the third quarter. Cedarville now looking to slow the ball down. Passing it around the top of the key, we saw this throughout the first half. It's Ellis Sellers who finds an open three-point shot for Cedarville,

and with zero hesitation, puts the ball up and puts it in. Hillsdale will call a quick time out, but a tremendous run there for Cedarville entering this third quarter. The shots have started falling. They've had five possessions. They've made points on four of those. Two of those were three pointers. That is a quick, what is that?

11 points, 12 points. You can't ask for much more out of Cedarville. When the shots are falling, the shots are fallen, they're going to keep moving the ball around. They're going to keep moving the ball fast. Every one of those possessions took less than 15 seconds. That is the exact opposite of what we saw in the first half, and it is working.

Compare that to Hillsdale. They're also speeding up their game. What works for them was slow, methodical, moves where they could get the ball into Ellie Bruce or Savannah Smith in the paint. They had 20 points in the first half. We haven't seen slow methodical paint work from the two post players on Hillsdale yet. It's a confusing thing to see from here atop the court. You can imagine how confusing it was down there is.

It looked like Cedarville wanted to run transition. And then they immediately settled down back into their first quarter offense. And it all threw that Hillsdale defense for a loop. They're crashing back into the paint looking to prevent a transition. basket and Cedarville immediately just stops that fast tempo and finds an open three-point shot. So that Cedarville offense, it looked like they didn't have anything left in the tank as we closed out the first half. And immediately they come back here and now Hillsdale is left guessing defensively.

So Hillsdale will look to respond here. They haven't scored yet three minutes into the third quarter. And Cedarville just puts up a 10 to zero run and keeps their full court press. Hillsdale will look to break that run now as they inbound the ball to Lauren McDonald. McDonald will bring the ball up for Hillsdale. Teams leading scorer on the year. And still fresh here in this third quarter. She passes the ball to Annalise Petrissic, who dribbles in.

Fowl is called on the ground against Cedarville. And so Hillsdale will inbound from under their own basket, 21 seconds on the shot clock. passes to Ellie Bruce on the three-point line, who passes back to Lauren McDonald, who inbounded. McDonald's shot is no good. Hillsdale attempting to grab the rebound, tosses the ball towards their own backcourt. It's corralled by Brianna Zakek for Cedarville, and she sprints down and makes a tough layup on the run in transition. So another two points for Cedarville. It's 40 to 33 Hillsdale.

Cedarville, 12-0 run against these Hillsdale Chargers. McDonald enters to Ellie Bruce. The shot is blocked and taken by Ella Downing. Downing, Downing looking to run in transition. She dribbles up the court almost to the paint before she kicks it back out to Casey Kyle. Casey Kyle passed back out to Downing. Thought about shooting the three, but thought better of it. Passed it to Breanna Zaychick.

Zaychick looks to drive, passes back out to Ella Sellers. Ella Sellers once again open for the three hits. It's 40 to 36. Cedarville, 15 on. answered points. What you saw right there was a great off-ball screen from Chloe Downing led to an open three-point shot. Hillsdale was not ready

for the speed that Cedarville just brought out there and it led to three points. And so Hillsdale looking to respond rapidly went for a hasty inbound pass to early Bruce. Bruce was able to corral it and put up a shot. The foul was called against Chloe Downing and so Downing will check out of the game here for

Cedarville after putting up some great minutes there offensively and her place will come in a number number 14, Jenna Sandell as Bruce misses her first free throw. This game had looked like it was all but over a 19-point lead, 40 to 21. Now it's a four-point game and Hillsdale hasn't scored this quarter. Just as encouraging for Cedarville as you saw Hillsdale came out with their starters here to start this third quarter. And their starters haven't had an answer for the Cedarville team.

So Cedarville down for as Bruce misses her second free throw and Cedarville grabs the board. It's Ella Sellers with the ball against the. Lauren McDonald. She sees nothing passes out to Emma Neff. Neff looking for something. Passes to Zajik. Zajik drives in. puts up a contested two against Ellie Bruce and it rolls around the rim forever before dropping. It's 40 to 38. That's 17 unanswered from Cedarville. The inbound is to McDonald. McDonald gets rid of it. Hillsdale has numbers coming in. into the front court. The pass was to number five. Sarah Alkenovicius. That was Alkenovic's trying to rush into the paint, make something happen, but she got blocked once again, could not put the shot up. So the ball was

called out on Cedarville. Before Alicanavisius could get the ball up, it was tipped by Cedarville and bounced out of bounds. So Hillsdale will retain possession, but they've got 20 seconds on the shot clock. Passes into Smith, handed off to McDonald. McDonald takes an open to it's no good. Rebound. It's no good. Rebound. It's is to Ellis Ellers and Cedarville with a chance to tie the game here after being down 19, just five minutes ago as we enter under five minutes to play

in the third quarter. It's Reagan Hubert with the ball for Cedarville. It passes to MNF who looks to enter the ball there to Jenna Sandell and looks like a foul was called against Hillsdale attempting to guard that entry pass as the teams will enter a

media time out here with under five to play. Payton What happened here for Hillsdale? Cedarville started making shots. That's the bottom line. Hillsdale hasn't made a shot this quarter. They've taken seven. They're over seven.

Compare that to Cedarville, who's shooting 25% going into half. Now they're shooting 44% from the field, and that looks more like 80% from the field this quarter. This is exactly what Cedarville could hope for. They've had 19 unanswered points. It is a two-point game. They can play their slow game now that we saw in the first quarter. and we'll see what it works for them to the next to the game.

I'm loose through it alongside Payton Hughes. Cedarville here on a 17 to zero run and put themselves back in the game down two to Hillsdale. Cedarville in bounds with 12 seconds left on the shot clock. MNF looks to put up a shot for Cedarville. Rather, it's no good.

And just scuffle over the ball. Jump is not called. It looks like Cedarville took a timeout in order to retain possession. So they will be credited with the offensive rebound. They'll have 20 seconds left on the shot clock. And they take a timeout looking to draw something up in order to tie this game. And what's Hillsdale going to have to do in order to break the lid off this basket here in the third quarter? What we saw in the first half was a masterpiece down in the paint.

We saw Smith and we saw Bruce work really, really, really well down there. We haven't seen that at all. I've only seen one shot from Bruce this quarter. They need to get that going. So Hillsdale out with Elliccanavish's McDonald, Splane, Petrizzik, and Smith. Cedarville looks to score. It's Ella Sellers in the corner for three. She puts up a shot.

It's no good. Rebounded by Reagan, Hubert. enters to Sandel. Sandel puts up shot against tight defense. It's no good. So Hillsdale gets the rebound. They'll keep the lead here. Just a small two-point lead after entering the quarter of 19.

McDonald with the ball at the top of the key for Hillsdale. We'll look to set something up. Off ball screen for Splane set by Savannah Smith. Splane drills back to the top. Pass to Allicca Divisius, nearly stolen by Cedarville. Patriczic opened for three, and she takes it and makes it. Hillsdale extending the lead to five here. and the lid is off the basket for the chargers.

It took them six minutes, but they've scored here in the third quarter, and Cedarville will look to answer and keep this momentum they've taken out of this game. So Breanna Zaychik for Cedarville drives, and as we've seen her do throughout this game, seize the contact, puts up the shot, and gets the foul. Would have been a tough layup to make,

but the foul is called against Splein. So Splein will check out once again for Hillsdale. Zaycheck will go to the line to shoot two. and Caitlin Splain still four points from that 1,000 marker on her career. She had nine in the first half. She's yet to put one in here in the second half, but it's safe to say we haven't seen the last of her here in the game as Sacek misses her first free throw.

Definitely not. What we've seen from Cedarville is a rebounding and assist overload. At half, they only had one assist on the game. They got seven more in this quarter. We're only six minutes in. rebounds that they're catching up to Hillsdale they've had they have two people with over five rebounds so far they're going to try and keep this dynamic offense moving we'll see what happens the rest of the game zaychick makes her second free throw as Ellie Bruce and sidney panassick

will check in for Hillsdale Cedarville still in the full court press as hillsdale looks to inbound Lauren McDonald is immediately tied up and a jump ball is called so Hillsdale will maintain possession here Panassick inbound once again to McDonald and a reach is called against Breanna Zaycheck for Cedarville. And so Hillsdale will once again inbound from the same spot. And Panassick to McDonald. McDonald back to Panassick, the press is broken and Hillsdale now has numbers. Panassick drives to the paint, sees Petrizzac open in the corner, passes,

but it is intercepted. A hustle play there by the Cedarville defense as they will take the ball down. here. 4339 with three minutes left to play in the third quarter. Hubert passes the ball out to Zaychick. Screen is set by Sandell for Zaychik. Zajik doesn't use it. Passes to Ella Sellers in the corner. Sellers with a nice step back, puts up the three. It's no good. Long rebound, bounces nearly all the way back to half court. Sellers is able to corral her own rebound and passes to Hubert here. Ten seconds on the shot clock. Hubert finds Sellers once again open for three on

an off ball screen, but the shot is no good. McDonald with the rebound passes down court to Kendall McCormick immediately, and a block is called against Cedarville on the fast break layup. Kendall McCormick missed the shot, but she'll go to the line for two. Hillsdale is trying to move this ball really fast. It has not worked with them so far, only three points on the quarter. They need to get the ball down into the paint. A couple possessions ago, Lauren McDonald tried to work something,

but no points came out of it. Cedarville is hustling really, really well. you just saw another extended possession that took almost an entire minute. They got two, three-point shots up. Nothing came of it, but the energy is there for Cedarville. They want to come back and win this game. McCormick misses her first free throw as Caitlin Spley checks in for Lauren McDonald. Coach Brennan will give McDonald once again another breather here with two and a half minutes left to play in the third

so she can send her back out there in the fourth quarter again. McDonald leading Hillsdale in virtually every statistical category, spectacular season for. as Hillsdale comes out with the full court, press their own, and gets a steal. Petrissac pokes the ball loose, and Splane takes it, passes to Petrizac. Hillsdale has numbers. Patricic drives, thinks better of a shot, passes out to Splane. Splane for three, no good. Hillsdale attempting to bat the rebound back to their own team, but it's taken by Reagan

Hubert for Cedarville. Hubert takes the ball up court, looks for a drive, nothing going there, passes to MNF. Neff runs back under the basket and kicks out to the corner for Cedarville, the number 22. Casey Kyle, who's checked back into the game. Kyle misses. Hillsdale takes the rebound, and they run it right back up court and settle down, looking to set into their offense. Sidney Panessick with the ball on the right side of the court.

Passes to Splane. Splane drivels further right to the baseline, and a block is called on Chloe Downing. Once again, back in for Cedarville. But that's another foul on Downing, which could put her in trouble later on in the game. And you see two subs. You see Savannah Smith coming in. And number five, Sarah Alkenovitchis. We'll see what they can do.

And it looks like Cedarville coach, Addy Miller, does take downing out. And she will put Jenna Sandell back in the game. And so, Splane, having been fouled and looks like Cedarville in the bonus, Hillsdale will go to the line. Splane, shooting two here for Hillsdale, with a chance to narrow. She needs four points on the rest of the game. In order to break 1,000 on the career, she can get two here. She misses the first.

If she makes this one, that would bring her within three points, and that would put her right within a three ball to get her to her 1,000 point mark. And you know, Sblane loves shooting the three for Hillsdale and is quite good at. She makes the second one, so she's three points from 1K here as Hillsdale comes out in their full court press to counter Cedarville's pressure defense. Cedarville breaks the press. Hubert to Sandel and Sandel back to Hubert as they will look to set up their offense. But Hillsdale has taken about 10 seconds off that shot clock for Sheeterville, so they have less time to set here.

Ella Summers with the ball. Summers uses the screen from Zaycheck but can't get to the hoop. The passes back out to Hubert and to Summers, who looks for the three. No good. Kicks back out to Zayech as the shot clock expires. Zaycheck misses. The rebound is taken by Sarah Alaconavicious. and passed out to Sidney Panassick, who in turn gives it to Kendall McCormick.

And Hillsdale will control the ball here. They're looking to get Caitlin Splain open, and she's being face-guarded by Casey Kyle. Splane calling for a screen. Does not get it yet. Seven seconds on the shot clock. The screen is from Smith. Splane puts up the three. No good.

And the ball is called out off of Hillsdale as Cedarville will take over. Splane liked that shot there. a fairly good shooter off the dribble, and the screen from Savannah Smith got her a little bit of a cushion. She was able to put up that three, but it looked like she was fading a bit far to the right, and the shot reflected that. It was no good as Cedarville will take the ball.

Down six, a 45-39 game here in the third quarter. Ella Summers with the ball for Cedarville, 16 seconds on the shot clock, 30 to play in the third quarter. Summers isolated on Sidney Panasick. Can't get Panasic to move. passes out to Casey Kyle. Kyle against McCormick drives, spins, puts up a shot. It's tipped by Kendall McCormick. Excellent defensive work there from McCormick. Out of bounds. So Cedarville will retain possession, but there's three seconds on the shot clock off of this inbound. So they'll look to get something immediately. Hubert open, catches, shoots. No good. And it's ruled that the ball does not touch the rim rather hitting off of the backboard. And so that'll technically be a shot clock violation, even. Either way, Hillsdale gets the ball as Splain breaks open. 14 seconds left to play in the third quarter.

Passes back to Panassick, who hands off back to Splain. The press is broken. Seven seconds. Splane with the screen from Smith, steps back, mid-range shot. No good. Rebound is to Alicanavicious to Splain. Splean takes a desperation heave there a bit off of the three-point line, and it rims out no good.

So 45-39 at the end of the third quarter. How was Cedarville able to narrow that gap? Cedarville was able to get really fast offense once again. They played it slow in the second quarter. It didn't work for them. But along with that speed, it was able to draw Hillsdale off from playing that tight man defense. But that speed, they were also making their shots. They shot really well.

They're back up to over 35% from the field. You can't ask for much more from that from where they start at the beginning of the half. Now, what happened, though, is it looked like they were going to run well. with it for a second. But Hillsdale was able to stop them. In the last five minutes, they only allowed two points, scoring five of their own. So while Hillsdale had a rough first five minutes of the half, they were able to bring it back, and they still had maintained a six-point lead when a game could have gotten away from them. A wild game so far between Hillsdale and Cedarville. What was initially a 40 to 21 deficit entering the quarter is now 45 to 39 as we gear up for

As the fourth quarter begins here at Don Tibbitts Potter Arena, the Cedarville Yellow Jackets, trailing the hometown Hillsdale Chargers by 6, a 45-39 game. And it looks like a technical foul is called against Cedarville. What happened was they had five on the court, and Casey Kyle had to run to the other side of the court for whatever reason was running back across the baseline in order to get back to the Cedarville bench and it might have confused

the Hillsdale defense so the referees calling a technical foul there as Casey Kyle was technically interfering on the field of play so Lauren McDonald for Hillsdale will take the technical free throw she's a 73% free throw shooter on the year

she makes the first one odd series of events there that's That's not how you want to open the quarter for Cedarville, especially after the positive you ended on in the last quarter, turning this game back from what looked like a blowout to an extremely close name. McDonald makes the second free throw, and Hillsdale will have the ball on the other end of the technical foul. And very weird series of events for Cedarville,

and that'll steal momentum like nothing else. So it's 4739. Hillsdale has the ball now with eight seconds gone in the fourth quarter. passes to Savannah Smith at the top of the key. Post player looks, she enters the ball to Lauren McDonald in the low post. McDonald puts up a hook shot. It's no good, rebounded by Benazech, Zaychick for Cedarville. Pass from Zaychick is to Downing down low.

Hubert with the ball on the three-point line. So Downing gave the ball to Hubert. Hubert drove and looks like she was trying to set up a little step back. shot she was tied up it looks like she was tied up by Sydney Panassick for Hillsdale and the foul was called against Panasic on

the ground it was not ruled that Hubert was in the act of shooting so Cedarville will get a new shot clock and the ball here Hubert on the outside the passes to

Zaychick and tough screen off ball from Cedarville and that was number 23 and Elise Petrissick taking a charge it just seemed like that was number zero Brianna Zaycheck who just got a little out of control as he drove into the paint tried to pass the ball out but ended up running into Petrizzik there so the foul the foul is called against Cedarville you don't often see a charge on an off ball play but I guess it's in keeping with the beginning of this quarter two odd fouls against Cedarville as they give the ball back to Hillsdale

here. Extremely, extremely bad way to start the quarter here in this first minute for Cedarville. Hillsdale will take the ball. It's Annalise Petrissic with the ball against Reagan, Hubert. Hubert, some shut down defense, and then she sets her feet as Petrissac makes contact. The charge is called against Petrissic. An excellent play there from Hubert, just really smart basketball to stay in front of the offensive player. And then right as they went for the contact to set the feet and take the charge, so Hubert wins possession for Cedarville and she will bring the ball up. Hubert attempts to enter to downing. Hillsdale saw it all the way. It's intercepted by Kendall McCormick, pass back to Lauren McDonald. McDonald looks to move the ball to Emma Rulman in the corner,

but the ball is tipped there by number nine Maya Borgette for Cedarville out off of Cedarville, so Hillsdale will end down the ball, inbound the ball here, up eight on Cedarville. Eight and a half to play in the fourth quarter. The inbound. is to McDonald. Passes to Smith, right side, around the top of the key. Back to McDonald, entry to Rulman. Rulman passes out to McCormick, who passes back in. Excellent ball movement.

Smith puts up a shot, misses, gets her rebound and puts up another. It's in, it's in. Savannah Smith missed on the first one, but an uncontested rebound and follow-up. Two points for Hillsdale as they move up 10. Eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Chloe Downing with the ball for Cedarville finds Ella Summers open. Summers drives against McCormick.

She's tied up on the ground by Savannah Smith. No, no, the foul is called on McCormick. A blocking foul rather than a reach on Smith. So Cedarville will again have the ball inbounding from under their basket. And they'll hope to buy something here. Forgive me, that's, Hillsdale is now in the bonus. so Ellis Summers will go to the line for two shots.

Cedarville really needs some points here. They're kind of tied up. They have two players at 10 points, but not a lot of work out of the bench here. Compare that to Hillsdale, where you have eight players who have all scored. Sellers misses the first, but makes the second. She is Cedarville's leading score on the year

as Hillsdale immediately inbounds the ball in order to catch that Cedarville press off guard. McDonald brings the ball up for Hillsdale, passes to Rulman. and a foul is called against Casey Kyle for Cedarville as she was trying to take the ball from Rulman. Another tough foul call that doesn't go Cedarville's way there. Kyle was not happy about the call. It was some very light contact there, but Rulman stumbled.

It looked like there was some contact between the bodies there. So Hillsdale will inbound. Rulman with the ball passes to Petrissick at the top of the key. The screen is set by Bruce. Patrissik does not use it. Passes back to Rulman. who throws a pass across the court to Kenna McCormick, drives and puts up the two. That was a really interesting possession.

You saw a high and a low post with Ellie Bruce and Lauren McDonald, and it was able to free up the wing, which allowed for Rulman to cut in and get a good shot. Hillsdale swinging the ball extremely well. You haven't seen that a lot today, but so many passes there for Hillsdale on the possession. But Cedarville will answer. That was Maya Borgette with an excellent pass down low to Reagan Hubert. and Hubert scores for Cedarville. Rulman will bring the ball up for Hillsdale.

It's a 51-42 game. Cedarville down nine. Rulman passes to Petrizzik to McCormick. A high post screen for McDonald for Bruce. Bruce rolls open to the basket. McCormick gets her the pass and she makes the wide open two-point shot. So Hillsdale, again, an excellent offball screen there from Hillsdale. They'll score down there in the high post.

Ellie Bruce putting in the two. Hillsdale opens up an 11-point lead here in the fourth quarter. Casey Kyle down low for Cedarville. Didn't see any opportunity. She kicked it out to Chloe Downing. The post player opened, and Chloe Downing put up the corner three and put it in. Uncharacteristic three-point shot there from the Senerville Post, but it works out in Searville's favor.

53-45 as Hillsdale will look to answer. Petrizzik with the ball, left side of the court. Bruce jockeing for position down low. The passes to Rulman and then to McDonald here on the left side of the court. Screen is set by Bruce. McDonald chooses not to use it. Goes left instead, puts up a layup off of the drive.

The shot was no good. It was taken by Emma Rulman. And the foul was called against Cedarville. Looks like someone got Rulman on the arm. So foul is called against Cedarville, who is in the bonus. So Rulman will go to the line as Hillsdale looks for substitutions here. Splane and Smith coming in for Bruce and McDonald. An excellent rotation there for Bruce and McDonald.

I'll be curious to see if Samantha Smith keeps playing in this high post that we saw Ellie Bruce doing. It opened up the offense where Ellie Bruce could run a pick and roll, which allowed for Lauren McDonald take a basket, which allowed for Emma Rulman to get a wide open rebound to put the ball back up, and now we're at the charity stripe. but we'll see if Savannah Smith can do a similar job. She's been excellent all season long, all night long, and we've got five minutes left in the game.

Drulman misses the first, and here's the second. That's good. So Cedarville will take the ball 54-45 in favor of Hillsdale. The inbound is to Ella Summers, who passes to Brigette back to Summers. Hillsdale in the full court press. The ball is back to Borgette and then moved up court to Eminette. So the Hillsdale press is broken, but there's 15 on the shot clock here for Sheeterville. High screen from Sandell for Ella Sellers.

Kicked back out off ball screen for LNF. Open three at the top of the key. No good. Rebound is to Savannah Smith. Passes to McDonald's swing the ball up court to Emma Rulman, who's tied up but is able to keep possession of the ball and kicks it back out to Lauren McDonald, who passes to Spleyne at the top of the key. Three points for a thousand. McDonald on the right side of the court passes inside to Savannah Smith, who puts up a tough two-point shot. The block is called against Ella Sellers. Savannah Smith will go to the line for two.

Smith played the low post there not what we've seen out of Ellie Bruce she came back up for a fake in and out she got the ball down low a great pass in was able to drive and a block called so savanna smith headed to the line has not been very great from the line for hillsdale so far this season but she puts in the first shot here and she's happy about it a fortunate role on the rim there and the hillsdale lead is now 10 55 45 45 as smith puts up the second free throw and that's a good one is good as well. So two for two from Savannah Smith and Cedarville will try and break this full court press. Excellent call here by head coach Brianna Brennan, putting Cedarville's pressure back in their face defensively as they look for the trap. Cedarville breaks it. But again, Hillsdale's drain time

off that shot clock. So Casey Kyle will look to set up a shot. This high screen from Sandell, Casey Kyle puts up a two. No good. No good. So Casey Kyle made the shot, but it was ruled a moving screen on Jenna Sandell. So the two points won't count for Casey Kyle, though, an excellent shot on her part as Sandel stuck an arm out on her screen. And that was ruled illegal. Five minutes to play in the fourth quarter. And we enter the media timeout. So Payton, a strong opening to the fourth quarter from Hillsdale.

It is a really strong opening. We've seen the press come out in this fourth quarter, which is critical because there is five minutes left in this game. Cedarville is down 11 points. They need to have quick scoring possessions. And Hillsdale is able to slow down that offense through that press and through tight man. Time is critical. We'll see if Cedarville can get through it. But offensively, Hillsdale has also been moving the ball really well, moving the ball inside, moving the ball outside.

Ellie Bruce was able to score a lot recently. Savannah Smith was able to work down low, get both free throws in this last possession. I think we're going to see a slow methodical offense coming out of this timeout from Hillsdale. They want to drain as much clock as possible and maintain this. double-digit lead. So after a wild third quarter, Hillsdale responds excellently in the fourth quarter with an 11-point lead, 5645. We will take a brief break and see you on the other end of this short media timeout. the ball for Hillsdale. Passes to the top of the key right, Savannah Smith. Further near the corner to Kendall McCormick. Splane open off an off ball screen from Smith. Spain puts up the three. It's no good. The rebound is to Lauren McDonald, who dribbles back out. Entry past to Savannah Smith. and against the double team she scores but it looks like it looks like she's hit in the head on the play so she's she's down on a knee on the far end of the court injury timeout was not called so cedarville has this possession five on four the shot is no good for cedarville ruleman gets the rebound and the referees will blow the play dead for savannah smith savannah smith is not moving she is on the ground sitting looks like she's in pain coach is going out to talk to her it looks like it might be her knee and it looks like a possibly a twist their knee or ankle for Savannah Smith. An excellent basket on her part.

She might have landed on a Cedarville player's foot. So head coach Brianna Brennan will put in Bruce for Savannah Smith as she walks off the court in her own power. That was a great Hillsdale possession. Lauren McDonald getting the rebound, able to get back outside, pass it in, bounce pass down into Savannah Smith. She was able to work the paint as she does,

get the points. Unfortunately that she's injured, but she does look like she's walking just fine. So that's probably the last we'll see of Savannah Smith tonight. Was able to walk off the court pretty leisurely of her own power. But head coach Brianna Brennan will probably err on the side of caution here and keep Ellie Bruce into the end of the game. The inbound is to Caitlin's playing for Hillsdale. She passes back to Rulman.

Rulman will bring the ball up. 13 point lead for Hillsdale, 58, 45. The pass to Kendall McCormick. and three off ball screens for Caitlin Splain. They're trying to get her open on the perimeter, but nothing there. McDonald enters to Ellie Bruce and then the low post. Back out to Splain and then back into Bruce. And on the entry pass to Bruce, the foul is called against Cedarville.

It was Jenna Sandell defending Ellie Bruce and was ruled a push. So Bruce will head to the line for two. And Eelsdale, feeling pretty comfortable. now a wild third quarter and now they're able to seize a 13 point lead in the fourth reopen this game. Ellie Bruce not a statistically great free throw shooter. She just made the first one, but she's shooting 500 on the year. And here's the second shot from Ellie Bruce and she puts it in. So that is a 60 to 45 lead for Hillsdale as Smith heads back to the Hillsdale locker room. Ellie Bruce puts in two free throws, putting Hillsdale back up.

Healthy lead here in the fourth quarter with under four minutes to go. Cedarville will need some tremendous shooting here in order to turn this game around. Ella Summers at the three-point line looking for a shot on an off ball screen from Jenna Sandell. She passes it up and attempts to enter the ball to Sandell. Sandel can't quite catch the ball and it is off of her hand and out of bounds. So Chargers will take the ball. ruleman inbounding to Lauren McDonald against the full court press McDonald takes it and looks to run in transition

and she does Lauren McDonald all the way to the basket she never had anyone try and stop her she went all the way down and got the two points so Cedarville looking to answer and they do that was Reagan Hubert who dribbled hastily up court and found Emma Neff for an open three so 62 48 Hillsdale three minutes left to play in the fourth quarter

his McDonald passes up court to Caitlin Splean. Bruce sets the screen for Splean. Splean puts up a three. It's no good rebounded by Emma Rulman who sneaks under the basket and puts up a two on the other side. 6448. The two points to Emma Rulman as Cedarville will once again look to score. It's Hubert with the ball. Passes out to Breanna Zaychick.

No good for Zaychick. Rebound is to Cedarville, but the passes intercepted off of the rebound by Annalise Petrissac for Hillsdale. Splane with the ball. Dribbles into the lane. Doesn't see a shot. Passes back out to Lauren McDonald, who passes to Wilman at the top of the key center court.

Passes to the right corner to Annalise Petrissic. Splane running off an off-ball screen by Ellie Bruce, but Ellie Bruce was wide open and the mismatch of size was apparent. She caught a lob pass there when Annalise Patricic can put it in. Even though Cedarville had two players after Ellie Bruce got that ball, She was able to body them, get to the box, and put that ball in the basket. So now it's an 18 point lead for Hillsdale. They were up 19 at halftime.

It closed to as little as two in the third quarter, but an excellent fourth quarter so far for Hillsdale as Ella Summers puts up a shot for Cedarville. It's no good. Rebounded Cedarville's way. Play is blown dead. We're not given an indication why, but if it's not given an indication why, but it'll be Cedarville ball. The inbound is to Chloe Downing, who passes to Reagan Hubert.

Hubert puts up the three for Cedarville, and it's good for Reagan, Hubert. Another three-point make for number 21 for Cedarville as Hillsdale will inbound to Lauren McDonald. McDonald passes back to Splane wide open for three. Ladies and gentlemen, that's 1,000 career points for Caitlin. 1,000. She's at 13 on the night. 1,000 on her hills. career here is a senior with a couple games left to play.

Cedarville looks to respond. McDonald runs the ball up court and passes to Spleyne again. He's looking for three more. The shot is no good and bounces out of bounds as it looks like Cedarville will take a time out, but Splain checks out for Hillsdale and high-fives all across the bench. an absolutely historic night for Caitlin Splain. 1,000 career points, four made threes on the night.

She's done her part. She certainly has done her part, and as Hillsdale is now up 69, 51 here with a minute left to play, she'll know that she hit 1,000 on the night that Hillsdale ran away. And what could have been an extremely close game entering the fourth quarter, Hillsdale put up a very impressive defensive and offensive showing and just took this game away in the clutch. as Cedarville misses their initial shot with the offensive rebound here.

40 seconds left to play. It's Reagan Huber. Spectacular night for her passes out to Chloe Downing. Downing puts up the three. It's no good. Lauren McDonald carous the ball, passes up to court to Kendall McCormick, who doubles back and Hillsdale will hold the ball here with 25 seconds left to play. 20 on the shot clock.

McDonald against Casey Kyle. McDonald's still. just dribbling the shot clock out against Kyle. She ends up driving for two. The shot is no good, but it's tipped out to Annalise Petrizik by Savannah Smith. It checked back into the game, and the pass will be out to Emma Rulman at the top of the key. The clock will expire, and Hillsdale will escape with a 69 to 51 win. It feels weird to say they escaped with an 18-point win.

but how this game was looking entering the fourth quarter we thought that this was going to be a nail by your face. It really did. When Hillsdale had a 19-point lead going into half, you thought this game was going to be over right there. But Cedarville coming back very, very strong, took it back to a two-point game. Hillsdale playing stellar defense at the end of the third

to make it and hold it there, going into the seven-point lead going into the fourth. But the name of the game is Hillsdale's strength coming into this fourth quarter, scoring 24 points, It's the greatest of any quarter this game. Ending with 69 points on the day. You can't ask for much more coming out from such a tough, hard-fought game in this fourth quarter at the end of the third as well.

Cedarville looked like they get charged back. Hillsdale's storyline is that strength rejoices in the challenge. No matter the difficulty, Hillsdale came out on top. Caitlin Splain having an absolutely historic night reaching that thousand-point milestone. So having an eight-game win streak broken at Ashland Hillsdale is able to come back. and take two games at home. They will take the season series from Cedarville. They won their first game on the 11th, and they win tonight.

What was a 9-point game on the 11th extends to 18 on Hillsdale's home court, 69-51. Peyton, who's your MVP tonight? The MVP, it's really tough, although I want to give it to Splain, but Savannah Smith had a great night. 14 points, 5 of 12 from the field, 4 of 4 from the free throw line, six rebounds. Second on rebounds for the team.

Her effort was incredible from the post, and it really angered Hillsdale's offense. Certainly. So the story for this specific game, an excellent showing for Savannah Smith, but on the night, Caitlin stole the show, earning her a thousandth career point

for the Hillsdale Chargers. A fitting, fitting conclusion to tonight's game, Splean's three-point shot to put her at that millennium mark. So that's where we'll leave it tonight. Hillsdale 69-51 over the Cedarville yellow jackets. They'll improve to 13 and 6 on the year.
