Crowd is roaring. It's a sold-out game here.
Takes the three. Got that one.
Two shots to layup bounces off the left side of the rim.
Offensive rebound. Sidney Mills puts it back up and end.
There's that size advantage. Easy layups.
Dill Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM starts now.
Well, it is a brisk night here in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Welcome to Don Timmitts Potter Arena, Lewis Thune alongside Payton Hughes,
as we get ready for the quarterfinal round of the GMAC tournament
featuring the Hillsdale women's team taking on the yellow jackets of Cedarville
in what's sure to be some exciting postseason play.
We've seen these two teams before, not long ago.
But a month ago, these two teams met on this court.
And what was a shocker of a game, Hillsdale pulling out to an early lead, Cedarville, closing the gap in the third quarter in Hillsdale pulling away.
So, Payton, what are the key going to be tonight for the Hillsdale team as they get set to take on this yellow jackets team who've proven resilient?
I mean, the key is definitely going to be working inside the paint.
In the last game, we saw Hillsdale go up very high, 40 to 21 at halftime.
And that happened in the second quarter when they had a 19 to 5 run.
What we need to see from Hillsdale tonight is strong work in the paint and strong work getting those rebounds.
Because in the third quarter, Cedarville started to come back.
They got a ton of rebounds.
They made it a close game in the numbers.
And then Hillsdale couldn't do much.
They ran on an 18 to 5 run against Hillsdale.
Then in the fourth, Hillsdale was able to come back, get back in the paint.
ended up going 24 to 12.
We need to see Hillsdale work the paint really well with Ellie Bruce and other players like
Sidney Benachic and Sarah Alkenovich is getting in, getting close, getting dirty, playing right
next to the, right next to the hoop.
That's for certain.
Hillsdale will be missing Savannah Smith tonight, who was a starter and a key player in the post
throughout the season.
So the youngster Ellie Bruce will be out there really looking to fill in that.
that role. As she did this last time against Cedarville, it was a dynamic post-performance for
Hillsdale on a 69 to 51 win. Hillsdale finished the season 19 and 8, Cedarville at 14 and 14.
So Hillsdale, the number two seed in the G-MAC entering postseason play, has the opportunity to host
tonight against the Cedarville team. And experience has shown to be a factor in these two teams'
previous meeting. That's exactly right. And Cedarville's team right now only has
four upper classmen, and only two of those are starters.
The rest of the team are all freshmen or redshirt, freshmen, or sophomores.
So it's not a very experienced team, and now we're heading into this quarterfinals in the postseason
where experience matters more than anything.
The nerves start to get up, you start making bad decisions, but if you've been there before,
you know what's coming.
And we see the ability to go through that out of this Hillsdale team, specifically with
Caitlin Splain and Lauren McDonald, both are very strong seniors, over a thousand,
points in their career. They've been in this situation before and they want to make sure that this
continues and they're hosting for the first time. I think 18 years in the postseason. This is an
awesome chance. I think we'll see them come out strong. When what was a stellar game for Casey
Kyle and Reagan Hubert, the experienced players on that Cedarville team really showed out in that
third quarter against Hillsdale. Hillsdale team that had a 20 point lead at halftime which narrowed
to zero at one point in the third quarter.
But between Hillsdale's two guards and some very tough postplay,
they were able to pull out in the fourth quarter.
We've seen a remarkable season from the Hillsdale guards,
Lauren McDonald and Caitlin Sproulain,
both breaking 1,000 points on their career
and really being the leaders of this team in every statistical category,
and they have their chance to cement their legacy tonight here in the GMAC tournament
and keep Hillsdale rolling into the semi-final matchup.
So let's take a look at the starting lineups here.
For Hillsdale, it looks like we have number three, Lauren McDonald,
number 15, Kendall McCormick, number 24, Ellie Bruce,
number 30, Caitlin's plane, and number 40, Emma Rulman.
This is very similar to the lineup we saw last time these teams played,
with the exception of Savannah Smith since her injury,
which means that Ellie Bruce is going to have to come out to play strong.
She only had 17 minutes in the last game, but she shot five from seven from the field.
She made an immediate impact, whereas Savannah Smith had 14 points in the last game.
She was key offensive and defensively from the board.
And Ellie Bruce has to fill that gap, Lewis.
And Cedarville has sent out Casey Kyle, Reagan, Hubert, Ellis Ellers, Chloe Downing,
and Brianna Zaycheck on their side as the tip is underway.
And we are go here for some play.
off basketball. Hillsdale brings the ball up the court. It's Kendall McCormick with the ball on the
right side, dribbles to the top of the key, pass to Caitlin's plane on the left side and a post-entry to
Lauren McDonald dribbles under and a reverse layup on Sellers. A spectacular start for Hillsdale.
Exactly what you want to see in your first possession is Cedarville will bring the ball up. It's
Reagan Hubert on the right side. Hubert with the ball, reverses court. Now to the left side and attempts to
drive. Nothing there, so she kicks back out on the key, and Cedarville works the ball back to her.
She led the Cedarville offense in virtually every statistical category in their first appearance here at Don Tibbitts Potter Arena.
What was a close game, foul trouble for Hubert was the real struggle that eventually took her out as a factor for the game.
As the clock winds down here in Cedarville and a thrown up frantic missed shot comes to Hillsdale.
Caitlin Splain will bring the ball up.
Passes to Rulman. We see a full court press from Cedarville.
Rulman gives the ball to McDonald, who dribbles in.
Passes out to McCormick. McCormick looks for a three, decides against it, dribbles in,
and puts up a nice floater from the free throw line.
Another two points as Hillsdale jumps out to a 4-0 lead.
Here, just one minute gone in the first quarter.
Cedarville will look to respond Zaycheck with the ball.
Passes to Chloe Downing at the top of the key.
Downing dribbles.
Dishes to Hubert in the left corner.
Hubert, a very nice drive and switch of hands finishes with the left.
A fantastic take from Humbert. We saw Cedarville come down from the top of the key,
get at the Hubert in the corner. She was able to move back inside from the switch from Ellie Bruce
and end of the basket with the left hand. But Hillsdale's answer is immediate.
McDonald dribbles up, passes to Caitlin and Splane. Zero hesitation.
puts up a three as she is want to do and sinks it.
7-2 Hillsdale here in the first quarter as Cedarville will look to answer.
Hillsdale 3 for 3 from the field already in the first two minutes.
Casey Kyle with the ball in the post for Cedarville against Emma Rulman makes a nice pivot
and puts it up with the left hand scoring.
It'll be 7-4 Cedarville responds.
Kendall McCormick brings the ball up for Hillsdale.
Cedarville softens the press.
McCormick passes to the right.
Lauren McDonald, looking for a post entry to Bruce.
Nothing going.
McDonald drives.
Nothing there.
Passes back out to McCormick on the left.
Left side. McCormick looks for a drive, thinks better. Passes to Rulman, enters to Ellie Bruce.
The shot bounces around on the rim for Bruce, and it's in. So a quick hook for Ellie Bruce, Hillsdale,
four of four from the field. It's nine to four. Cedarville again has to respond here. The past
to Zaycheck at the top of the key looks for a three. It's no good. Rebound Ellie Bruce. Hillsdale brings
the ball up. Let's see what Hillsdale can do here. On that last possession, they moved away from their motion offense,
and it didn't work out well for them.
Ellie Bruce had to make something happen in time draining.
And another in pass to Ellie Bruce in the high post.
Bruce dribbles.
A nice hook shot with the left hand.
It goes in.
So Bruce with four of Hillsdale's 11 points.
Hillsdale's still perfect from the field.
Cedarville brings the ball up.
And Hubert throws up a three, but it's good.
11-7 here.
Excellent shooting from both teams to open up this fourth quarter.
Rulman brings the ball up.
is trapped as soon as she passes half court but gets the ball to Splane.
Splane puts up another three from the right side and it rims out.
McDonald with the rebound passes out to Rulman.
Rulman looks to enter to Bruce but it's an errant pass.
Bruce can't catch up to it and Cedarville will take the ball off the Hillsdale turnover
as Hillsdale sends in their first bout of subs.
It looks like it will be Sarah Alconovicious, Marilyn Pobblewell,
and Annalise Patrizik.
coming in for Hillsdale with Splain and McDonald remaining on the court.
Cedarville brings the ball up, down four here in the first quarter.
Casey Kyle with the ball at the top of the key, passes left to Hubert.
The screen is set by Hubert for Hubert by Jenna Sandell.
Hubert drives, enters a pass to Ella Sellers on a nice curl cut to the basket.
Sellers cashes in, it's 11-9.
Now you're seeing Cedarville coming with that half-court press.
Three of their girls just came up.
Hillsdale drives and there's an and one.
Indeed. Cedarville came out aggressive with the press and Hillsdale was able to lob the ball up court to Caitlin.
So there's a three on two opportunity.
It looked almost as if it was a fast break.
Fast break. Splane took full advantage of it, drove in and drew the foul.
So Splane will go to the line shooting two here.
Six minutes to play in the first quarter.
That last possession was really interesting.
As Cedarville's tried to play that low post with Emma Sellers,
As she came from the corner, Hubert was able to drive, sorry.
She drives the center of the lane.
Sellers comes from below.
The defense had shifted up and Sellers was wide open from the baseline.
Splane makes both free throws and is subbed out for Kendall McCormick checking back into the game.
Splane with a breather.
Of course, the last time these two teams met was the night that Caitlin Swayne broke a thousand points on her Hillsdale career.
So Cedarville knows all about Caitlin's playing shooting ability.
Cedarville with the ball.
Patient for offense right now.
It's Sellers trying to drive on McCormick.
Passes back out to Kyle, guarded by Petrizzik,
and the three-pointer is no good from Kyle.
Aliccanavishis brings the ball up and centers it to Lauren McDonald,
who will look to run the offense.
McDonald, guarded by Amaris Betts,
passes to Kendall McCormick
enters to Alecanovichus
passes to Popalwell in the low
post
Popplewell
looks like she tried to get the ball
back out to Alicanavicious
it was tipped by Cedarville
on out of bounds so Hillsdale will retain
possession
McCormick will inbound for Hillsdale
McDonald's coming off the double screen
receives the inbound's pass
calling for a screen from Popowell
six seconds to shoot
McDonald looking for something driving with the left hand puts up a layup and hits nothing.
Great contest there by Amaris Betts.
McDonald misses the layup, can't hit rim, and the shot clock expires for Hillsdale.
So Cedarville will receive the ball in a shot clock violation.
13 to 9 halfway through the first quarter.
Hubert brings the ball up and moves the ball quickly.
Hillsdale had not quite gotten their defense set.
Amaris Betts caught it with a brief window to shoot the three.
And that is exactly what she did, putting it up.
Cedarville again comes out with the aggressive press.
Hillsdale breaks it with a pass-up court to Popplewell.
Past a Petrizzik with an open three, looking to respond with one of her own.
But it's a miss on Petrissick's part.
The ball is batted out of bounds, and the first media timeout is upon us.
So Peyton, a very quick first five minutes here, 25 points between the two teams.
The shooting is fantastic.
In their last meeting, Cedarville shot 36% from the field, and Hillsdale only shot 42%.
So not very great at all.
But already Cedarville's shooting 63%, Hillsdale's shooting 71%.
Each team's already made at least a three.
This game could be a very high-scoring encounter, and Hillsdale doesn't seem to do well with those in the past.
Hillsdale's offense has looked spectacular at catching this Cedarville full court press off guard
and getting buckets in what is essentially transition with man-to-man.
advantage. Cedarville, on the other hand, their offense has mostly come from set plays.
The Hillsdale defense has been getting set, but they haven't been able to buy a stop here from Cedarville.
No, Cedarville has been doing absolutely everything correct here. They've been playing very energetic.
They've gotten exactly what they wanted out of this Hillsdale defense running, like you said, those set plays.
Whereas Hillsdale came out very hot, running a very strong motion offense, getting a lot of footwork down low, so that L.A. Bruce was able to get open.
but right now they've just kind of been passing around.
We saw in the last couple possessions,
Hillsdale get stuck on that left side of the court.
There were four players on the left side of the court
and nothing happening on the right side.
We got to see a lot more movement out of this Hillsdale offense
if they want to hold on to this lead and keep the game strong.
Another positive on the Cedarville side,
despite it being a young roster,
the team looks extremely poised.
And in postseason tournament play,
that's exactly what you would like to see.
Specifically in the GMAC,
a lot of experienced teams here.
Cedarville is young,
Their players seem to have learned a lot from their last time here at Hillsdale.
Cedarville brings the ball up the court.
It's Hubert.
Hubert passes to Alyssa Kincaid in the High Post.
He dishes back out to Hubert on the three-point line, looks to drive and is fouled.
A block by Kendall McCormick, so Cedarville will maintain possession,
and Ella Sellers will inbound for the Yellow Jackets.
All four players for Cedarville on the High Post, two-screen set.
Sellers breaks open off the inbound.
pass and it is ruled she traveled looking for a drive opportunity pulled back tried to pivot
and dish out to the three point line and there was nothing there Lauren McDonald's just kept moving
her feet and she couldn't get in front of Lauren she was playing fantastic excellent defense there
from McDonald to force the turnover here and hillsdale will look to break this aggressive press from
Cedarville spain working hard against a Morris betts and bets grabs her the third
foul is called for a grab.
So Hillsdale will look once again to inbound here.
McDonald breaks into the open.
Cedarville traps.
McDonald passes to Splane and the press is broken.
Splane looking to run quickly.
Enteres a pass to Ellie Bruce.
Ellie Bruce with zero hesitation, puts the ball off the backboard.
And in 1512, Hillsdale, Ellie Bruce with her sixth point already here in the first quarter with four minutes left to play.
Amaris Betts has the ball for Cedarville on the left side.
Pessette's eight check in the left quarter.
corner and back out to Betts on the top.
Entered into the high post to Ella Sellers.
Sellers thought about shooting the three.
Decide against it passes to Hubert.
On the right side, Hubert dribbles left and passes to Betts.
Betts drives.
Betts passes to Sellers right up next to the basket,
but Sellers couldn't get her head open for a shot and loses the ball.
So Hillsdale will take possession.
McDonald brings the ball up, passes to Splane in the left corner.
Splane dribbles in.
penetration on the dribble drive but misses the shot with her right hand cedarville with the ball sellers bringing the ball up court
sellers passes to bets bets at the top of the key screen is set by zaycheck bets does not use it hands off to ragan hubert
hubert drives hubert looks pass from hubert to elissa king kate on a curl cut to the basket king kinkade takes it
and puts it in with the left hand 15 14 hillsdale with
Three minutes left to play in the first quarter as Caitlin's playing again looks to break the press with speed.
Hillsdale trying to get the ball back to Ellie Bruce there.
It didn't happen, batted away.
Ellie Bruce is making herself known here.
Already has six points of her not mistaken out of Hillsdale's 15.
She's shooting, she's shooting really well, and she's making use of her height difference,
being guarded by Alyssa Kincaid, who's four inches shorter sitting at 5'10.
So Hillsdale retains possession Cedarville batted a pass out of bounds as they immediately look to enter back to Ellie
Bruce and Bruce just misses another contested hook shot.
They're in close.
Hubert with the ball guarded by Splane, passes back out to Downing.
Hubert now guarded by Bruce.
Hubert looks to shoot the three.
Nothing there.
Passes back out to Chloe Downing, who will shoot the three in the left corner.
It bounces around and no good.
McDonald with the rebound.
dribbles up court guarded by Casey Kyle.
McDonald slows the Hillsdale offense down as they look to make their set plays work.
McDonald attacks the basket, drive, and draws the double team, passes to Ellie Bruce wide open.
And she says, thank you, and puts in the two-point basket.
That's eight points for Ellie Bruce.
It is 1714 Hillsdale.
Cedarville responds, handoff to Amaris Betts.
Again, the Hillsdale defense did not set properly yet.
Four players standing in the paint, and Betts saw her open three and took it.
So it's 17-17.
Hillsdale brings the ball up the pass to Splane.
She takes an open three, but it's no good.
Rebounded by Petrizzik, passed to McDonald,
entered back into Ellie Bruce with the left hand.
Ellie Bruce with her 10th point of the quarter.
It is 1917 Hillsdale.
Ellie Bruce has found every gap imaginable.
Cedarville can't do anything to stop her right now.
The size is just not there for Cedarville.
The downing on Bruce matchup has decisively gone to Bruce early on in this game.
Cedarville trapped in the corner.
corner is Brianna Zaycheck.
Rulman bats the ball out of bounds.
So Cedarville will retain possession with 13 to shoot and a minute 15 left on the clock here
in the first quarter.
Checking in for Cedarville for the first time tonight is number nine, Maya Borgette.
The inbound from Kyle is to Borgette.
Borgette at the top of the key looks for something.
Passes to Hubert on the right side of the court.
The screen is set two-man game by Chloe Downing, but Kendall McCormick is there.
Hubert passes right side to Casey Kyle who throws up a desperation three as the clock expires.
It is no good.
It's nothing.
So the shot clock violation is called.
Hillsdale will take the ball.
Cedarville again with a press.
The inbound from Rulman is to Petrizzik who dribbles up court and is trapped past half court.
Petrizek looks to enter the ball to Marilyn Popplewell.
Popplewell puts up a very closely contested too.
It's no good but rebounded again by Hillsdale.
They scramble to get the ball out to the top of the key.
Splane dribbles in with the left hand, unguarded, draws the defender,
passes to Popplewell and Popplewell with the two.
So 12 post points for Hillsdale.
Cedarville playing very strong help defense.
They're moving over a little bit too much,
and that's leaving over empty space right by the basket.
The speed of the Hillsdale offense and those offensive rebounds have already come to bear
a great effect in this game.
So there's 16 seconds to shoot and approximately 16.
and a half on the clock. So Cedarville's going to hold here for the last shot. It's Hubert at the top of the
key, guarded by McCormick. No screen here for Hubert. She picks up her drivel. McCormick gets in her
grill. It's Emma Neff on the left side of the court and guarded by Caitlin Splain as the clock winds down.
Neff throws up a shot, hits nothing. So the shot clock violation is once again called against Cedarville
and there is 0.6 seconds left on the clock for Hillsdale to make something out of it.
They inbound to Spley and Spleyme will just hold the ball and allow the first quarter to take away.
It is a 21-17 ball game, then.
Very high-scoring game, just like we said earlier, still shooting very well.
Cedarville's 3 of 8 from the 3, Hillsdale, 1 of 4.
Cedarville, 50% from the field, Hillsdale 57%.
Fantastic shooting so far.
I think we're going to see a very high-scoring game here.
Hillsdale set score over 80 points.
That'd be incredible. We've seen a lot of points out of Ellie Bruce in the low post here.
Ellie Bruce has been able to make use of that height advantage because Cedarville just doesn't have any player that can match her size in this.
Out of Cedarville, what I want to see is slowing down this Hillsdale tempo.
In playing this full court, full court man defense, they're opening themselves up for a lot of low movement from Hillsdale because they can't get back in time if they have to help on these drives, which leaves Ellie Bruce or in this last year.

Welcome back here to Don Tibbitts Potter Arena for the second quarter of Hillsdale versus
Cedarville. The Hillsdale women got out to a 21-17 lead in the first quarter.
so Cedarville will have the ball here to start the second quarter.
It's Emma Neff at the top of the key.
Pass to Casey Kyle on the right side dribbles in an uncontested mid-range shot from Kyle.
The free throw line is no good and rebounded by Emma Rulman.
Lauren McDonald will bring the ball up for Hillsdale.
Four-point lead.
McDonald looks to set the offense guarded by Maya Bershette.
McDonald passes to Rulman who cut past MNF.
Rulman with a spin move in the post puts up a shot awkward landing,
and it's no good rebounded by Chloe Downing.
Downing looking to go coast to coast.
Passes back out to Maya Borgette, who drives in and finishes contested with the right hand.
It is 2119.
Excellent shot there from Maya Borggette, slowing down off the drive to put in a tough and closely contested two-pointer.
Kendall McCormick brings the ball up for Hillsdale and enters the ball to Ellie Bruce, who puts up a shot and immediately grabs her shoulder.
The foul is called.
Looks like Bruce got her shoulder pinched there.
Left shoulder, non-shooting shoulder on the shot attempt.
So still kind of holding that arm as she's at the line,
favoring her left arm here at the free throw line.
So she puts up the first shot and it is no good.
It is no good.
Bruce looks like she'll have to take a couple minutes.
It didn't look terrible initially.
and she certainly seems to have enough mobility back in it at the moment.
But she makes the second free throw.
And head coach Brianna Brennan subs in Maryland, Popplewell.
Bruce will take a breather there on the bench.
Cedarville will now bring the ball up, down three.
And check back in for Cedarville is Reagan Hubert, the sophomore.
And really the leader of this team in virtually every statistical category,
especially against Hillsdale.
Hubert passes to Kyle at the top of the key.
Kyle again looks to penetrate, puts up a two, and is no good.
Splane with the rebound.
Passes to McCormick, who will bring the ball up.
McCormick to Splane at the top of the key.
Splane drives and puts up a two, and it is blocked by Chloe Downing.
Excellent defense there from Downing.
The move with the faster Caitlin Splane,
and immediately get that Splane layup out of here.
So Hillsdale with the ball, retaining possession, 19 seconds on the shot clock.
McDonald will inbound.
And some excellent inbound defense from Cedarville.
McDonald throws up a desperation pass.
It's caught by Rulman and given back to McDonald.
But Cedarville almost looked to have taken Hillsdale's full five seconds there.
McDonald dribbles in.
Nothing there.
She passes to Rulman.
Rulman to McCormick.
McCormick drives, puts up the two.
The two is no good.
Touches nothing. She frantically kicks back out to Caitlin Splain. Spain puts up the three and is fouled, is fouled. Right as the shot clock was winding down to about one second there. Splane put up the three and the scramble defense from Cedarville was just too aggressive.
Without Ellie Bruce in the game, Chloe Downing already with two blocks in this last possession. I think we're going to see her do a lot more here as Ellie Bruce is getting looked at by the trainers.
Splane and McCormick, both looking for two pointers, some easy layups.
on that possession and Downing was having none of it.
So Splane here at the line has made the first two free throws,
puts up the third and it's good.
Automatic there from Caitlin Splean.
Zero, zero worries.
She puts up three consecutive free throws and puts them all in.
Hillsdale now jumps out to a six-point lead
and Cedarville will look to respond.
Subbing in for Cedarville is number 24, Alyssa Kincaid for Downing.
an excellent defensive possession.
She earned her break.
Kincaid with the ball at the top of the key,
guarded by Popplewell.
Popplewell still in front of Kingcade.
Kincaid finally passes out.
So bets.
Betts to Hubert in the right corner.
The screen is set by Kincaid.
Hubert decides not to use it,
puts up a fadeaway shot from the elbow,
and it's no good.
Rebounded by Rulman, who will pass to McCormick,
as Hillsdale will look to extend this six-point lead.
The ball is entered to Marilyn Poppewell in the post.
She dribbles under the hoop and puts up a reverse layup, and it is good.
An excellent, excellent take there by Marilyn Pappelwell, Cedarville looking to respond.
It's Borgette.
Bourgette throws an errant pass after attempting to drive, so Hillsdale will get the ball off the
Cedarville turnover, and you've seen a big momentum shift early in the second quarterpane.
Big momentum shift.
I mean, it's speed, speed, speed, speed out of Hillsdale.
when Caitlin's plane made all three of her free throws,
that set this Hillsdale offense to try and get some movement.
And Marilyn Popper will, getting a very strong play down low,
is helping this Hillsdale offense burst into its power.
It certainly looks like the Cedarville press is softening
as McDonald hands the ball off to McCormick.
McCormick takes a three, and it rims out.
Cedarville will bring the ball back up.
It's Borgett with the ball, driving on McDonald.
McDonald stays in front of Borgett,
who passes out to Zaychick in the left corner for the 3rd.
It is no good, rebounded by Kendall McCormick.
McCormick wings the ball off beats Hubert,
loses her dribble,
passes out into the left corner to Caitlin and Splane,
and Splane wide open for the three,
puts it in 30 to 19 Hillsdale,
and Coach Miller calls a timeout for Cedarville,
now down 11.
Hillsdale jumps out here in this second quarter
and bites Cedarville,
a well-earned timeout from Hillsdale.
Cedarville not doing a lot here.
I haven't scored two points in the last three and a half minutes.
I'm not quite sure what they need to do besides just slow this Hillsdale offense down.
They're not setting themselves on defense and they're allowing Hillsdale to move the ball way too fast
and allow open shots both high up at the top of the key and low with players like Ellie Bruce and Marilyn Popplewell.
Initially it looked like that Cedarville defense was holding well against the Hillsdale offense
and especially with Ellie Bruce checking out of the game for a moment there.
It looked like Cedarville might have their chance to respond,
but the offense has gone nowhere.
The on-ball defense from Hillsdale has been spectacular,
particularly from Lauren McDomper.
Well, the second that Heli Bruce subs out for Hillsdale,
they sub out Chloe Downing on Cedarville's side.
They could have taken that time to use their height advantage finally,
but they just haven't been able to.
Hillsdale took full advantage of the speed, really.
You saw four guards on the court there for Hillsdale,
in addition to Marilyn Popowell,
who herself is a good advantage of the speed,
extremely athletic player, two-time All-American for the Hillsdale volleyball team.
So it looks like Hillsdale is going to check Ellie Bruce back in.
Shoulder appears to be okay.
And on the court with Bruce will be Alicinovicious, Petrizzik, McDonald, and Splane.
And Cedarville also making a change.
Subbing in for Alyssa Kingade looks to be number 14, Jenna Sandell,
as they need an answer in the post.
Sandel with the ball on the left elbow.
Decides against looking for anything.
Passes back out to Brianna Zaychek at the top of the key.
Sets the screen for Zaychick.
Zaychek goes up for a two on a double team and she is fouled.
Looks like both McDonald and Aluconovicious were in there.
I believe the foul was called on McDonald,
who might have tried to take a charge there.
But Cedarville, Calgo Cedarville's way.
Breanna Zaychick will go to the line to shoot too.
Cedarville got the foul out of it, but they didn't manage to run an offense there.
It was really just Zaycheck driving the paint.
They still had two other girls down low, so it caused a lot of chaos, and they clums them up.
And so Zayech got the foul out of it, but they didn't manage to run anything or pass the ball around
or get some movement before putting up a shot.
In the previous month, we saw some very aggressive two-man game from Cedarville between Reagan,
Hubert and Chloe Downing, really trying to work that guard-forward combo.
downing pretty good finisher in the post and Reagan Cuber has the ability to score at all three levels.
But we haven't seen that and the two-man game really hasn't been working for Cedarville tonight or really in the fourth quarter of that first Hillsdale game.
So Cedarville maintaining possession off of a missed free throw.
They put up a two and it is no good.
So they will get one point from that possession despite grabbing the offensive rebound off the second shot.
Hillsdale gets the ball now up 30 to 20.
Splane controls the ball guarded by Kyle.
She passes into Petrizzik.
Cedarville looked to amp up that man-to-man defense there.
And Zaychik on Petrizzik, just a little too aggressive off the pass,
called for a push on Petrissick.
Hillsdale will inbound here.
Splane breaks into the open as McDonald has now checked out for Hillsdale,
earning herself a breather.
Splane passes to Ellie Bruce, not in the post.
Bruce enters to Petrizik in the post on a curl cut.
Patricic puts up the two against two defenders and the foul is called against Cedarville.
So Petrizzik will look to respond with a few free throws of Meryl.
Hillsdale's been using a lot of energy and it's been toning down into a strong,
meticulous offense.
We saw in both of these last two possessions.
Hillsdale's moving into a motion box offense where you have players at both low posts and both high posts.
And they move over to get a screen before getting trying to get open.
We've seen them come off of that.
Caitlin's playing came off of it for the invoice.
and it managed to set up a strong offense
with able to get the shot down low.
Cedarville's trying to up the energy
on that man-to-man defense we've seen,
but they haven't been able to keep up
with the speed of Spleyne and Petrissic
who've just been breaking into the open
all across the court as Hillsdale comes out
in the press of their own
and passes intercepted by Kendall McCormick
as she takes it back for a layup of her own.
But misses, the rebound goes to Caitlin,
who dribbles back out to the top of the key,
enters to Ellie Bruce,
who's running back to the Cedarville side of the court, and she puts up a two.
The foul is called against Cedarville, and Casey Kyle will check out for Cedarville as
Ellie Bruce goes to the line to shoot two.
That was really quick there, so I couldn't fully tell, but it did look like Cedarville switched
to a two, three in order to stop Ellie Bruce down low, keeping that strong girl down low below
the basket to help with this Ellie Bruce.
But all he did was end up fouling her.
So Petrusick makes her two free throws.
Hillsdale immediately grabs a turnover in a surprise press
and then Ellie Bruce comes back on her end
and manages to make one free throw.
So Cedarville will bring the ball up again
and Hillsdale looks like they're going to stay with this soft press
centered right around half court.
Cedarville breaks it this time.
It's Hubert with the ball.
Hands off to Ella Sellers.
Sellers passes to Jenna Sandell on the elbow
who kicks out to Brianna Zaycheck at the top of the key.
The passes to the corner to Amaris Betts.
Betts puts up a three as she's done twice already making them both.
But this one is no good.
Rebounded by Hillsdale.
McCormick brings the ball up.
Who passes to the left corner.
Caitlin Splean tightly guarded by Amaris Betts.
But Caitlin Splain makes the three.
That's her third of the game already.
She's feeling it right now.
That was an off-balanced, tightly contested corner three,
and it just drained right in.
Zaychick tried to enter the ball to Sellers.
It was picked off by Kendall McCormick again.
So that's her second steel.
McCormick tries to draw the foul in the fast break, but no call as Cedarville takes the ball off a missed shot from McCormick.
But excellent defensive rotation there for Hillsdale as Splane, Bruce, and Alicanavicious will check out.
McDonald, Rulman, and Popplewell check back in.
Kendall McCormick, two steals in just about as many minutes.
Some excellent defense there from Hillsdale as they open up a 16-point lead here in the second quarter with 4.5.
minutes to play. Zaychick with the ball for Cedarville at the top of the key the block is called against
Marilyn Popplewell. Little mismatch there. You see Zaychick functions as a combo guard for Cedarville
and Popplewell as a post player. Didn't get a whole lot of reps early on in the season, but with
Savannah Smith going down for Hillsdale, Maryland Popowell has come in and really turned herself into a vital
part of the rotation defensively.
Cedarville takes the ball.
Ella Sellers throws up a three,
choosing not to use a screen on the three-point line.
It's a miss, and Hillsdale will take the ball.
McDonald brings the ball up, looks to enter to Popplewell.
Popplewell, pivots around, is not able to shake her defender,
but puts up a fade-away two-pointer from right in front of the basket,
and there was no doubt about it.
It's good.
38-20 Hillsdale, an 18-point lead here in the second quarter,
as Cedarville looks for anything to respond to this broad.
breakout performance here in the second quarter by Hillsdale.
There'll be Zaycheck at the top of the key, guarded by McDonald.
Zayech picks up her dribble, passes to Sellers.
Sellers drives.
A very nice drive there from Sellers.
Looked like a Euro step to get past two Hillsdale defenders and made a layup.
Made it look remarkably easy for how fast she was moving and was able to slow down and put that shot in.
So Hillsdale now with the 16-point lead enters once again to pop up.
Papalwell, Patrizik to Popplewell,
Popplewell dribbles, pivots, and puts in another two.
So Hillsdale's collective post between Popplewell and Bruce
have already been electric in this first half.
It's 40 points in the second quarter here for Hillsdale.
40 to 22, two and a half to play,
as Bruce and Splane will check back in.
McCormick and Populwell check out for Hillsdale.
Downing checks out for Cedarville.
Downing checks out as Ellie Bruce gets back in
for Marilyn Popplewell. Let's see what
Ellie Bruce can do. So here you're
seeing an extremely undersized lineup for
Cedarville. It's Sellers, Zaycheck,
Neff, Hubert, and
Kyle. Kyle being the only player
there who puts in work in a post
and
likes to shoot threes for her part.
So Cedarville is really
going to embrace the three-point shot here
trying to get this speed advantage
against Hillsdale.
Fowl is called against Hillsdale
looked like a block. So Cedarville will
keep the ball 20 seconds on the shot clock it's neff at the top of the key passes to kyle
on the left side kyle cross court to ella sellers sellers guarded by petrissick
potrizik pokes the ball sellers passes away the entry is to casey kyle in the low post she puts up a two
she puts up a two against emma ruleman ruleman hit the ground it looked like she might have
caught an elbow uh from kyle so
brief timeout is called on the court.
We'll wait to see if they count the two-point shot.
It looks like they do count the two-point shot there from Kyle.
She did, evidently she did hit Rulman.
Rulman fell down.
Looks like she either grabbed her chest or her chin,
but she hit the ground, and the two points are good for Kyle
right as the shot clock expired,
a much-needed bucket for Cedarville.
But Rulman will walk off court,
and it looks like Hillsdale's going to sub in Alicanavisius in her place.
Very needed, but if I'm the Cedarville coach right now, I am not happy.
That last possession, Cedarville had almost zero movement.
There were two slashes, that entire drive.
It was a bunch of Cedarville players standing around the outside,
then you had two people standing in the middle of the paint,
but nothing ever came of it.
In the end, it just took a drive to the basket and the last second shot
and tried to get something.
They came up with a couple points, but you can't really try to be happy with that.
So they're initially going to count the two points.
It looks like we have a review going on as to whether there was a foul, perhaps,
or whether the shot was attempted before the shot clock expired.
So we will take a brief break here as the referees look here.
We'll see you in 30 seconds.

Welcome back here to Don Tippett's Potter Arena.
The referees are still deliberating over a bucket that was initially counted for Cedarville here in this 18-point game between the Hillsdale Chargers, number two seed in the GMAC and the Cedarville Yellow Jackets.
The call is still unclear, but the players are coming back to the court.
It looks like they're going to count the basket.
So it'll be 40 to 24 here with two minutes to play in the second quarter.
The inbound pass is to McDonald.
We'll bring the ball up against what looks to be another press from Cedarville.
McDonald beats Kyle up the court.
And she will look to set up the Hillsdale offense.
She passes out to Petrissick.
Patricic puts up a three.
Looked like it was pretty well contested,
but Petrissick put it in.
Some excellent focus there against the Cedarville.
defense, 43-24 Hillsdale, Cedarville. The passes to Hubert in the low post. Hubert passes back out
to Borgette, who reverses to Zaycheck. Zaychek tried to pass the ball to Kyle in the low post
off of a drive, looking to get a quick catch-and-shoot bucket. And Ellie Bruce, thinking quickly,
took a charge against Zaychek. So Zaychik did manage to get the ball out in what might have been
a good looking bucket there, but
Ellie Bruce was able to step in front and take the charge.
Hillsdale will take the ball here with a minute 30 left to play in the second quarter.
That was a fantastic defensive possession.
You saw Petrizzik and you saw Ellie Bruce getting in the way of that drive
and in the way of the pass.
Honestly, Petrizzik and Kendall McCormick have had a fantastic game so far,
being almost everywhere, getting rebounds, getting steals,
and propelling this offense forward.
So McCormick checks in for Petrissick.
Patrizik smiling as she walks off the court an excellent rotation for her.
Hillsdale with the ball 15 seconds to shoot.
McDonald dribbles in and puts up a mid-range shot.
And over the back is called against Ellie Bruce on the offensive rebound for Hillsdale.
So Cedarville will take the ball minute 19 left here in the second quarter.
And what we've seen in the second quarter was really the same as the second quarter.
The last time these two teams met last month where Hillsdale just completely pulled.
pulled out and really put an extreme and a vast margin between the two teams as Cedarville takes
the ball. It's Amaris Betts putting up a layup. Yeah, that's exactly right, Lewis. At the start
of the last game, we saw Hillsdale go up 21-16 at the end of the first. You thought it might be a
high-scoring game both sides. But then as we went into the second, Hillsdale took it away, taking a 14-point
lead after in the second quarter, 19 to 5. We've seen a similar thing here with Hillsdale.
going up 22 to 7 in the second quarter and running away with the game.
So Betts's layup was no good.
The ball was batted around and called out off of Cedarville.
So Hillsdale will take the ball now with a 19-point lead.
If that sounds familiar, it's because, yes,
Hillsdale closed out the second quarter last month against Cedarville with a 19-point lead.
And Splain looked to enter the ball to the post there to, I believe that that's Sydney.
Penesick who's checked who's checked in for Ellie Bruce the ball was once again batted out by Cedarville so
48 seconds left in the second quarter. Splane breaks open off of the inbound pass puts up the three
but it's no good just right 43 24 a long board uh bounced out of bounds so no one taught no one touched
that ball it was last touch by Splain and a bad bounce off the rim hands the ball to Cedarville
37 seconds to play 20 on the shot clock
The ball, the ball is loose.
Couple different players scrumming around for it.
And Sidney Panassick is able to jump on it on the ground.
The jump ball is called.
It looks like Amaris Betts and Maya Borgette were there for Cedarville.
But possession does go to Hillsdale off the jump ball call.
And the shot clock is off.
So Hillsdale will hold four last shot here.
Lauren McDonald will bring the ball up against Maya Bajette.
Foul called.
against four Hillsdale on
I can't tell what number is that Lewis
that was that that was that was that was that was
that was Muget on defense for Cedarville
call was the call was against her for
for contact the head of McDonald
she she was she was not happy about it
immediately it looked like
looked like a soft foul so
McDonald will go to the line here
she makes her first shot
now Cedarville on that last
possession that was kind of scary for them
they came up they took the gamble bringing up
five perimeter players.
Your tallest player was Casey Kyle at 5-8.
She was playing the high post,
but it just didn't work out because Hillsdale came out
with a tough energy, playing tight defense
and ended up getting a jump ball.
An uncharacteristic miss on the second
free throw from McDonald's, Cedarville with the
rebound and 10 seconds left
to play in the second quarter.
The passes to Sellers
from Kyle, she dribbles in
off the drive and puts in a shot with
five seconds yet.
McDonald receives the inbound
off the hard press from Cedarville, throws up a three-quarter court shot, and it is no good,
narrowly, I might add.
So it is 44 to 26 here at the end of the second quarter in what was a spectacular second quarter
for the Hillsdale offense, really scoring any way they wanted to, baby.
That's exactly right.
It's oddly reminiscent, as we've said, of this last matchup of just a month ago where Hillsdale went up 19-5 in the second quarter,
and just this week we've already scored 20 points in the second quarter 23 I think having 21 in the first 23 in the second
Hillsdale looking to break 80 points a very rare occurrence but the way this offense is rolling they are just doing whatever they want against the Cedarville defense the speed the energy the defense is implying tight pressure which is leading to lots of steals and lots of bad mistakes and turnovers for the Cedarville offense
Hilldale's taking that and driving down the court you have
Splane shooting nearly 50% from three.
The team as a whole shooting four of nine.
I don't know what's more we can ask for.
So Ellie Bruce put together a spectacular first quarter,
but in the second quarter,
it really looked like the Hillsdale shooting is what took over.
Splane was good from three.
Petrizzik was good from three.
Popplewell checked in for Bruce after that weird shot to her shoulder.
And Popplewell from mid-range and in-close was remarkably efficient
and especially some of those tough shots she made,
reverse layup fade away too.
The Hillsdale Post has been matching that output from the guards McDonald and Spley.
And it's really been a pleasure to watch.
Obviously for Cedarville,
the story is completely different as what was an excellent offensive first quarter
just immediately changed in the second as the Hillsdale defense settled in.
That's exactly right.
Hillsdale's top scorer being Ellie Bruce,
Caitlin Splain and Marilyn Popplewell.
Popplewell, we haven't seen her very often.
Just this latter end of the year as Savannah Smith got injured,
but she has immediately made her presence known.
Eight points on the night, four of five from the field already.
Ellie Bruce, five of six from the field.
Caitlin Splane shooting 38% from the three.
This is fantastic shooting,
and I hope it continues as we go and the rest of the game.
So in the first meeting of these teams,
Hillsdale put up a remarkable second quarter,
19 to 5 point differential.
And this time around it was 23 to 7.
The story from Hillsdale has just been that offense doing whatever it wants to this
Cedarville defense.
And the field goal percentage has been remarkably efficient.
Assists have been there.
And then in this second quarter, we saw the defense show up.
Kendall McCormick and Annalise Petrissik both put up spectacular performances coming in
in rotations off the bench and really anchoring that Hillsdale
defense holding that Cedarville offense to seven points. So as we prepare for the second half,
Cedarville's going to have to have one heck of a third quarter. We've seen them do it before,
but they've got 14 minutes to find out and make a plan to do it again. So we will step away
for a moment here. And we will see you on the other end of this halftime break. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale
101 7 FM.
You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, 1017 FM.
And this is Chargers women's basketball.
Well, it is the quarterfinal round of the GMAC tournament
and the number two seed Hillsdale Chargers,
the hometown team,
have put together quite the first half
against the visiting Cedarville Yellow Jackets.
A spectacular offensive showing
has left Cedarville in quite the hole
as the third quarter is about to get underway.
44-24-hillsdale.
So, Payton, if you're head coach Addy Miller for the Yellow Jackets right now,
what adjustments are you making in this second half
in order to try and bring this game back into reach?
I mean, you have to make adjustments both on your offense and your defense.
Offensively, you need to set up your set offensive schemes once again.
In the first quarter, they were working very well
to working the low post coming in from the side.
but in the second quarter they lost all of that and tried running this five out without slashing and it just didn't work.
Defensively, they need to slow this Hillsdale team down even more.
They tried doing that with the press, but Hillsdale just was able to get through.
Now we saw the move into more of a zone two, three defense at the end of the second, but we didn't really get to see it work.
So they need to slow this Hillsdale offense down so they can't get quick shots off to Caitlin's playing at the three or get quick movements into Ellie Bruce down low.
The previous meeting of these two teams saw Cedarville close the third quarter deficit 13 points in what was a spectacular quarter for Reagan, Hubert and Chloe Downing, respectively, for Cedarville.
They're going to look to make a change again as the second half is underway with the inbound from Cedarville.
Hubert has the ball.
Cedarville will look to get something going offensively.
Hubert passes to Casey Kyle.
Kyle dishes to the corner to Ella Sellers, who puts up a three.
off of a stepback. It's no good. Hubert tries to chase down the rebound. Bats the ball back inbounds,
but Hillsdale will control it. Hubert narrowly saving the ball there, but to no avail as it goes
to Hillsdale. McDonald misses the two-point shot for Hillsdale off of what looked to be a very
fast offensive set. Cedarville brings the ball back up. The pass is from Casey Kyle to Reagan,
Hubert. It's tipped by Ellie Bruce. A loose ball. Hubert hits the ground. Bruce after her.
And a timeout is called on Cedarville to try and retain possession here. 19 seconds on the
shot clock. Very quick series of events there led to Cedarville narrowly keeping the ball and
what could have been a turnover and fast break opportunity for Hillsdale. But some excellent
perimeter defense from the forward, Ellie Bruce.
Yeah, Ellie Bruce was able to get there really fast because she was staying next to Chloe
Downing, who was at the top of the key, and it seemed like there was a bit of a miscommunication
there for Cedarville.
It was from the right side, from the wing, going back up to Chloe Downing, but Chloe
Downing was already moving in for a cut.
The past just went past her, and Ellie Bruce was able to get there right next to the Cedarville.
A wrinkle of this Cedarville offense is that they don't play with a definitive
forward down low. They like to move their forwards around the perimeter.
And in cases like this, that can generate Hillsdale Biggs on the perimeter.
And with the length, Bruce has at 6'2, she's able to bat that ball away and nearly just take
the possession from Cedarville. And if you're Cedarville, you need every possession in this
third quarter in order to narrow it down. We've already seen experience coming to play for
Hillsdale. It's been a low-scoring game for Lauren McDonald, but defensively, she has been everywhere.
And on the other side for Hillsdale, Caitlin Splain, Kendall McCormick,
and Elise Petrizzick, and the posts Ellie Bruce and Marilyn Popplewell have seemed to be putting every basket in and really opening up this game for Hillsdale.
So Cedarville is going to need everything they can get this third quarter.
And nearly a good start for them there.
Excellent, well-thought-out offense possession, a lot of off-ball screens.
but Casey Kyle missed an open layup there.
Real in close to the basket and Hillsdale grabs the rebound.
The passes to the high post to Emma Rulman.
Rulman enters to the low post, Ellie Bruce.
Bruce puts the shot up and it's good.
Bruce again for Hillsdale, the leading scorer on the night
after a spectacular first quarter, Cedarville,
brings the ball up court.
It's Chloe Downing, the forward who puts up a three and it banks in.
So the three counts for Cedarville, 46-27, as they come out in an aggressive press once again.
And Hillsdale, nearly a perfect press break as they got the ball up to Kendall McCormick in a two-on-one situation.
She entered to Ellie Bruce.
Bruce missed the two.
It was contested, but very lightly so.
And Cedarville was able to grab the rebound.
It's downing with the ball for Cedarville.
Passes to the corner, L.S.ellers, to the top of the key to Brievan of Zaychecks.
Zaycheck drives puts up a two open.
She was able to get past McDonald on the drive and put up a float or two uncontested between the forwards and guards in the low post and high post respectively.
And it was good for her, banked in.
McCormick with the ball for Hillsdale, they were able to break the press.
Splane drives on the left side finishes with the right hand against Huber in close.
4829 Hillsdale.
Ellie Bruce boxing out, Chloe Downing there allows the lane to open up for Taitland Splane.
But Cedarville's been able to set up their offensive schemes.
again allowing for drives into the paint and like I said earlier movement from the corners into that
low post which has opened it up for those easy shots down low so two almost three in close baskets
immediately for hillsdale in this third quarter as they look to keep scoring inside and it's kendall
mccormick again with the steel for hillsdale a standard pass from searville and mccormick flew in and
took it away and put in a fast break layup uncontested that's the third steel for mccormick on the night
an excellent showing for her Cedarville just to sleep on offense there as they put up a three again
quickly looked to be about 25 seconds left on the shot clock hillsdale takes the ball brings it up court
and they put up a quick shot of their own it's emma ruleman from the free throw line good for two so 52 29
the hillsdale offense has not lost a step here in the third quarter three and a half minutes gone cedarville
the ball to chloe downing at the top of the key passed it to zaycheck in the corner and back to the top
this time to Ellis Sellers.
Kyle sits the screen left for Sellers
who pulls up from three. It's no good
but rebounded by Zaycheck off
of a long bounce from the rim. Zayech
controlling the ball 15 seconds to shoot
guarded by Rulman. Zayek
no screen for her,
but she looks to work anyway.
A spin move gets
herself slightly open, able to
fire off a pass to Casey Kyle
in the low post. Kyle puts up a two
missed and she grabs at her
shoulder. Hillsdale grabs the
rebound takes advantage of the situation, pushes the ball of court to Ellie Bruce. Bruce makes the
two. The timeout is called by Cedarville. That timeout, a dual function there. They need to get
Kyle off the court. It looks to be she injured her shoulder there, but also Hillsdale just swung
all of the momentum in their favor, really keeping the second part of that first half on their
minds as they put up 10 points in four minutes here in the third quarter page.
Just as it seemed like Cedarville might be getting some offense stuck back under their belt,
you see Kendall McCormick could get another steal.
She had two in the second quarter, just eyeing those passes, being right there when they get there.
And she got another steal, which energized this Hillsdale defense to get more steals,
get more plays, get more rebounds, and get back up court fast once they get those steals.
We've seen Ellie Bruce sprinting up court, and on these last two fast breaks,
she's been the one taking the shots down low.
And it's not a standard story for Hillsdale either.
In the first meeting with Cedarville, we really saw their defense put in 30 seconds at a time.
And particularly, well, they forced a lot of shot clock violations, a lot of hasty shots from Cedarville.
That was the story in the first game.
This time around, Hillsdale has been forcing turnovers in play with those steals from Kendall McCormick.
And they've been taking full advantage of that as they can.
Ellie Bruce, again, a spectacular first quarter from her has come out just as strong here.
in the second half as she earned herself a breather and Marilyn Poppelwell will come in.
And already in this second quarter, we've seen a strong duo between Bruce and Rulman,
as you've seen Rulman at the high post and Bruce in the low post.
So we've seen Hillsdale enter it to Ruman and go low to Bruce,
and we've seen Hillsdale enter it low and go high to Rulman.
So Combo's worked both ways and both have gotten points.
So Cedarville, we'll add the ball here.
Now down 25 in a 54-29 game.
They're looking to buy a bucket here.
It's Zaycheck on the drive against Alicinovicious, who checked in for Splain.
The foul called Alikenavicious.
The shot was no good from Zaychik, narrowly so.
So she will go to the line for two.
Could have been an and one shot there, but just rolled out off the front of the rim.
Just kind of caught Hillsdale off guard on defense with that speed coming out rather than setting up an offensive scheme.
But Cedarville needs points and they need points fast.
So they're down 24, 54 to 30.
so they're going to be playing really fast and Hillsdale needs to adjust.
Zaycheck has wanted to drive all game,
but she's been matched up against Lauren McDonald for most of the game,
and McDonald is having none of that.
But Zaycheck makes both of her free throws.
Cedarville comes back out in the press,
and Hillsdale breaks it immediately.
You saw number five, Sarah Alkenovich is playing down low where Ellie Bruce normally is,
and she was just a little less confident.
We saw that same fast break for Hillsdale.
Alcovich just didn't have the height to go up.
Lauren McDonald drives, gets it,
back to Alkenovitch's, but she didn't have the length to get the ball there.
Hillsdale looking for a quick bucket off of breaking the press.
The ball was batted out of bounds by Cedarville.
They inbound back, and it's, it's, it's, ball gets away.
It's Reagan Hubert bringing the ball up for Cedarville.
Cedarville does not look to set the offense, rather.
The ball is out on the three-point line to Borgette, and Borgette makes the three.
Hillsdale looking to come.
back as rapid as possible in their own respect. The ball is to Kendall McCormick. She dribbles in
and puts in another two-point shot. So that's 5634 Hillsdale as Cedarville will once again
look to score here. It's Borgette at the top of the key. The screen is set by Sandell.
Borgette attempts to drive. Nothing there. She looks to the open corner. It's Reagan Hubert. And
Reagan Hubert puts in the threes. That's back-to-back threes for Cedarville.
The hard press from Cedarville. The inbound pass was to Annalise Petrissic, who had the ball overhead.
Brianna Zaychick just grabbed the ball. Both of them hit the ground.
Hillsdale wanted a foul call. Cedarville wanted to jump ball. The jump ball was called, but Hillsdale will retain possession.
So a good showing from the press there for Cedarville as they were able to force something there.
But the jump ball just doesn't go their way this time.
If I'm not mistaken, that's the first actual outcome we've seen from this press for Cedarville
deepened the third quarter.
They haven't gotten much out of it and they haven't slowed Hillsdale down.
And Hillsdale made great use out of the start of this.
And yet again, the press from Cedarville yields as Hillsdale looked to break it as they have.
And it was Alyssa Cincade coming up court.
So Cedarville had four people in the front court and just one safety player.
Kincade looked to intercept the pass from McDonald's.
court to Petrizik. She was able to do so and the foul was called against Petrissick.
It just takes a lot of energy. Cedarville's trying to start getting that back. They're playing
this press. They're going all in on it. Hill's just gotten a couple buckets in the last few possessions,
but it seems like Cedarville is trying to establish a hard man defense that creates an energy
for their offense. It hasn't been working, but on these last two tries here, they've gotten
something that's gotten that jump ball and they've gotten the foul on Petrissig. So maybe
Maybe this could be a start of a strong offensive possession for Cedarville.
They're still down 19, but just like last time, they could try and come back and make this to a three-point game.
It was a great defensive sequence there from Cedarville and head coach Brianna Brennan for the Chargers,
not wanting to allow Cedarville to claim any momentum in this game, calls the timeout and draws up a new press break it looks like.
So for Hillsdale, it's going to be Alicanavisius, Popplewell, Petrizzik, McCormick, and McDonald, anchoring the office.
offense. Cedarville is going to look up to draw an offensive possession here of their own. They've now
cut the deficit back down to 19 and looking for more on this offensive possession. The shooting
has been there early in the quarter. We saw those back-to-back threes from Cedarville,
but really their offense still looks uncomfortable. That's exactly right. They haven't gotten to
run a lot of those schemes. They've tried, but it just hasn't worked with that Hillsdale energy.
Now we've seen Hillsdale bring out McCormick back onto the court. She's been key in helping with
McDonald break this press.
but now Hillsdale's on defense.
The one-two punch from Hillsdale defense has been spectacular as well,
the aggressive defense from McCormick and the conservative defense from McDonald.
McCormick has gotten her fair share of steals that McDonald has completely neutralized
almost everyone she's guarded for the night.
So Cedarville attempts to inbound the ball.
It's immediately batted out of bounds by Kendall McCormick.
They inbound again and it's stolen by Kendall McCormick.
She takes the fast break, uncontested, and puts in the two.
So that's four steals for Kendall McCormick, an excellent night.
McCormick got her hands on the ball, and it was Reagan Hubert who lost her footing,
dropping the ball, and McCormick took full advantage, picked it up.
So she's credited with the steel.
Cedarville comes back up.
It's Zaychick again driving.
She puts up the two.
It's good.
Hillsdale coming back around, and they break the press quickly.
With McDonald back in, Hillsdale was able to break that press.
She's just got a strong demeanor about her.
She can go through the trap on her.
was able to get forward and get that ball up.
It's a Maryland Popplewell.
It looks like what Coach Brennan wanted was for Hillsdale to grab that ball out of the basket
and immediately inbounded as fast as possible before the Cedarville guards could get set in their positions for the full court press.
So they just put up three passes.
That ball hit the ground maybe once in that entire possession.
It was entered to Maryland Popplewell.
And Popplewell put in the two.
Cedarville is looking to respond here.
And they miss a long two-pointer and it bounces out of a.
bounds off of the rim.
So it will be Hillsdale ball now.
Caitlin Spleyne checks back in for Hillsdale.
They're going to break the press with three standing at half court here.
Splane breaks forward, receives the pass, passes to McDonald.
McDonald dribbles into a trap, passes back out to Splean who crosses court to Emma Rulman.
Rulman gets the ball past half court, passes back to Splain on the right side.
Splain penetrates, puts up a floater.
It's no good.
Rebounded.
Ball to Zaychek.
Zaychek to Hubert.
an excellent pass to the cutting Casey Kyle.
Would have been an open shot there,
but Kyle could not corral the pass off her hands and out of bounds.
So it's Hillsdale ball here.
The pass is to McDonald.
Ball is put in immediately.
Zero hesitation to McDonald.
She dribbles up court.
Passes to Petrizzik in the corner who reverses to Splane.
Splane wide open for three.
It's no good, but rebounded and put back up by Rulman,
and a foul is called against Cedarville on Rulman's two-point attempt.
This press break has been absolutely working for Hillsdale.
As you see, Rulman often inbound to McDonald.
McDonald breaks that initial press.
And then you have three other Hillsdale players coming in, often including
Caitlin's plain, Rulman, if she's not inbounding,
and then maybe you get someone like Petrizac coming up.
But then they're able to pass there and break this 1-211 press from Cedarville.
The saying is that speed kills, and that is certainly true for this Hillsdale press break.
been able to catch Cedarville before Cedarville's been able to lock down the Hillsdale
guards off of made baskets. So Cedarville brings the ball up, attempts to enter the ball into
Chloe Downing in the low post. It's batted away by Rulman and out of bounds. So Cedarville will
inbound the ball on their side of the court. The inbounds passes to Chloe Downing. Hands off to Ella
Sellers. Sellers passes to Zaycheck at the top of the keys. Zaycheck wants to drive. Hands off to
Hubert. Hubert hands back off to Sellers. Sellers looking for a shot. Drives forward,
enters to Chloe Downing. The ball is batted away and taken by Ellie Bruce, who passes to Splane. Splane
moving the ball up the court. Patrizik is open for three, but Splane opts for McDonald.
McDonnell enters to Ellie Bruce against Downing. She likes that matchup. Bruce pivots to put up the two and is fouled by Downing,
so Bruce will go back to the line for two more shots. A spectacular first quarter for her.
came out in the first part of this third quarter looking very nice.
They've been quiet since then, took her time on the bench.
Popple well checked in.
She got a breather, caught her breath,
and right back in in that matchup against Chloe Downing.
And Coach Miller for Cedarville is going to take Downing out of the game,
put back in Alyssa Kincaid.
Elissa Kincaid had a lot of energy earlier.
Remember, she got that foul on Petrizzik,
which brought Cedarville back the ball.
But what I want to look back is this previous defensive possession for Hillsdale,
where you saw Ellie Bruce alone down low playing defense,
but McDonald was able to pull off from the corner,
which was able to bat the ball away,
and Ellie Bruce is able to fight and get that ball,
which led to this Hillsdale offense
and Bruce being able to take the free throws.
Bruce's free throws are no good.
The rebound goes to Kincaid.
She passes to Hubert.
Hubert attempting to go coast to coast against what looks to be
the entire Hillsdale defense,
and she puts it in.
A tough layup there from Reagan, Hubert,
but it's good.
61-41 Hillsdale.
McDonald will bring the ball off.
She hands off to Splane.
Splane looking for an open shot, can't find it.
The pass is to McDonald.
Hubert with a tough defense on McDonald,
and the block is called against Hubert.
Hubert, not happy with the call.
Some very aggressive defense there,
trying to force the turnover,
and just wasn't going Hubert's way.
So the call is against Hubert for a block,
and Hillsdale will inbound.
It's Petrizzik.
Popplewell checks back in for Bruce.
Petrizzan.
Inbound to Rulman passes to McDonald at the top of the key who looks to orchestrate the offense.
She denies a Rulman's screen going left.
The passes to Popplewell, McDonald drew the double team once she penetrated and Popplewell
with an easy two-point basket.
McDonald has been absolutely key.
She already has six assists, five rebounds on the game.
She doesn't have a ton of points, but she's manually taking this offense and pushing it
forward, doing everything except score those points.
McDonald's averaging 15 per game on the year in points.
She's the leading score for Hillsdale, but tonight the story for McDonald has been defense and assists,
and that's what you love to see in your guards.
Especially coming off of their last game where McDonald had six three-point attempts.
She had 30 points on the day.
Today, that's not her goal.
She's fulfilling her role and pushing this offense forward doing everything that need be with six assists already.
So another errant Cedar Hill pass was batted out of bounds by Hillsdale.
Cedarville, inbound, looks to get something, and it's Reagan-Hubert once again.
again puts up a three it's good cedarville back into the aggressive pass the
inbound from ruleman is to spain spain dribbles up court and is hard fouled hard foul by cedarville
splain look to be dribbling trying to get up the court as fast as possible and cedarville
opted to just step in the way and take the foul as opposed to give up another seemingly fast break
bucket to hilltile so 63 44 spain checks out briefly as much
McCormick will come in.
McCormick enters to Petrizzik in the post.
Hubert gets her hands on the ball and it's a jump ball called a spectacular series for
Hubert.
That's two three-pointers on the third quarter and then just as much energy on the defensive
side.
Hubert really took over this game for Cedarville the last time these two teams played.
And tonight she seems just as intent in carrying this Cedarville team through a tough
second half and trying to lead them back in this game. So Cedarville with the ball, Sellers,
passes all the way across the court to Amaris Betts. Betts likes what she sees. She takes in on
Emma Rulman and puts up a two-point shot off a spin. The foul is called against Rulman. So
Amaris Betts will go to the line to shoot two. Just like you said, Hubert has been essential for the
Cedarville team. She's leading Cedarville in points and assists and in steals. She's doing just about
everything almost like
Lauren McDonald for Hillsdale.
And as Ellie Bruce
has checked out of the game for Hillsdale,
Chloe Downing will check back into the game
for Cedarville. Evidently,
Coach Addie Miller likes the Kincaid
Bruce matchup and the
Downing Popplewell matchup.
And Bruce checks back in.
So Coach Breanna Brennan
sees what Coach Addy Miller did
there with the sub and she's like,
well, I can play that game too.
So doubtless,
Dillsdale's going to look to get this ball to Bruce again,
as they love that matchup.
It's McCormick at the three point line,
passes out to Rulman.
Rulman puts up the three,
rims out.
The rebound is to Petrizzik,
who passes out to McDonald at the top of the key.
McDonald, looking to drive.
Good defense from Casey Kyle,
denies McDonald the drive.
10 seconds on the shot clock.
McDonald looks to drive again,
denied again by Kyle.
McDonald again with the left hand,
puts up a two.
It's no good.
She did manage to get by Kyle.
Cedarville,
attempts to save the ball off of an errant rebound was batted around.
And Amaris Betts threw the ball back over ahead and hit the back part of the backboard.
So Hillsdale will have the ball with eight seconds left to play and no shot clock.
The inbound pass from McCormick is to Bruce, entered to McDonald.
Ellis Sellers hits the ground for Cedarville.
It looks like she twisted her ankle.
McDonald puts in the two for Hillsdale as time expires here in the third quarter, 6546.
So after third quarter a month ago in which Cedarville completely dominated Hillsdale
and put themselves back in what was not a close game at the time,
Hillsdale learned their lesson and takes a 19-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Exactly. Head coach Breonna Brennan for Hillsdale has been making the exact right plays,
putting certain players in like you were mentioning with Ellie Bruce with Chloe Downing,
getting the right matchup that she wants on the court when she wants it.
It's been able to keep this Hillsdale offense in and in the,
energy up. We've seen that with the crowd getting involved too, but especially players-wise,
it's been, um, Annalise Petrissic. She has been almost everywhere getting bored after board
after board, sprinting from coast to coast and making this team function together as a team.
She's often been the middle, middle girl between a McDonald and whatever players down low.
And also, offensively, this last possession was awesome for Hillsdale. With McDonald's, as you
saw her at the top of the key, she was waiting to form this offense, even though Hillsdale's up 19 and
going into the fourth, she's taking her time, staying methodical to try and keep the energy up
and try and keep Hillsdale on proper pace. You saw Ellie Bruce sitting in the corner waiting for
the signal from McDonald so that McDonald could call her up and McDonald could take that screen
and get into the paint. And it worked exactly as Hillsdale wanted. So Hillsdale up 19, 10 minutes away
from punching their ticket out of the corner final round into the semi-final round of the GMAC tournament.
What's more about this performance pain is that Hillsdale has done this without
Savannah Smith, who was starting all year and really hitting her stride in the previous game against
Cedarville, went down with a foot injury, and Ellie Bruce has taken over starting duties.
Marilyn Popplewell checking it off the bench, and the Hillsdale post game has been electric
even without Savannah Smith. So Hillsdale, as this fourth quarter gets underway, just needs to
control this game for the next 10 minutes, and they are on their way. And that's exactly what
they look to do is Emma Rulman enters the ball to Lauren
MacDonald in the low post and Lauren
McDonald puts in two points.
Cedarville will look to respond
down 21.
Not a good start for Cedarville to the
fourth quarter. It's Amaris
Betts with her
foot on the line as she receives the pass.
So Cedarville coming out in a strong
press. Hillsdale looking to break it.
Inbound is displean. Passes back
to Rulman, pass to McDonald.
Pass back to Rulman. Pass to
McDonald. The press is broken.
Donald is all alone.
She dribbles in against Zaycheck and another finish with the left hand for
McDonald, two more points.
That's four quick points for Hillsdale, only's last two possessions.
Each from taking under 10 seconds, you'd think they want to play a little bit slower,
a little bit to slow this game down, but they're playing fast.
Hillsdale wants to take advantage of this pressed defense whenever they break it.
So 67 points, or 69 points for Hillsdale in the last game against Cedarville,
69 with nine minutes to play in the fourth quarter this time around.
As Splane will bring the ball up for Hillsdale.
She penetrates her way to the free throw line and puts up a two.
It rims out.
It's no good.
And an over-the-back is called against Ellie Bruce going for the rebound.
Cedarville has the ball here down 21.
And a minute gone in the fourth quarter as Bruce checks out.
Popwell checks back in for Hillsdale.
And Hubert will bring the ball up for Cedarville.
Yeah, very nice play from Hillsdale already hitting that 69 mark.
You said when last game they only got up to 69 through all four quarters.
They didn't have that mishap like last game in the third quarter.
Rather, they've stayed and they kept the pressure on.
21 in the first, 23 in the second, 21 back here in the third.
They got to keep the pressure up like they're already doing.
It's been a consistent offensive onslaught for Hillsdale as Cedarville is able to respond.
It was Alyssa Kincaid against Marilyn Popplewell,
liked her opportunity to post up.
And Cedarville immediately forces the turnover on the press after the bucket.
So down 19 here.
with the ball once again.
Kincaid put in the two and Hubert got the steel on the full court press.
Kincaid gives the ball to Hubert.
Hubert drives right hand against Lauren McDonald,
kicks out to the corner to Brianna Zaycheck.
The shot is no good, rebounded by Emma Rulman.
A spectacular rebound there from Rulman was playing defense in the left quarter
and made her way all the way over to the right elbow to grab a long rebound.
Lauren McDonald will bring the ball up.
She drives with her left hand and charge is called against her.
Alyssa Kincaid took the charge.
The shot was no good anyway for McDonald,
but after coming out and scoring four quick points here in the fourth quarter,
McDonald called for the charge there.
A good adjustment there from Cedarville,
seeing what McDonald was doing in the low post and on the drive
and immediately adjusting taking the charge against McDonald.
It's Ella Sellers with the ball.
She dribbles left hand for Cedarville from the left corner,
fakes a shot.
It's Sarah Aluconavicious who bites for Hillsdale. Sellers off the fake puts in two points, 69.52.
And again, Coach Brennan does not want Cedarville to seize any momentum in this fourth quarter.
Calls a very quick timeout here with 7.30 left to play in the fourth quarter and a 17 point lead for Hillsdale.
Cedarville finally got another turnover off of that last press.
Then got two more points really quick off the corner dried.
They got four unanswered points.
Hillsdale hasn't scored yet.
So now, Brianna Brennan's got to make a change, got to make an adjustment,
get back to this methodical offense like they started to quarter with.
Quick pace while running the place that you want to play.
I mean, they did this the past three quarters,
and for some reason now they start to let up.
The defense, we thought in the Rulman was playing strong.
In these last couple possessions, it's not been what Hillsdale wanted,
seeing Vatrizik and seeing Rulman get everywhere on the court.
They need to get back to that in order to maintain.
They're already strong 20-point lead.
On the other side, Coach Miller for Cedarville has to be extremely heavy with their showing so far.
The players look extremely patient and extremely poised for Cedarville in this fourth quarter with their season threatening to come to an end here.
It's been nothing, nothing but calm and collected play from Cedarville in this fourth quarter.
Especially difficult considering it's a very young team.
Like we said, only two of their starters are upperclassmen.
So Hillsdale will have the ball. It's McDonald, looking to use her.
left hand once again passes to Petrizik. Tight defense from Cedarville. The ball is poked briefly by
Amaris Betts, but corralled once again by Petrissac who passes to Splane. The screen for Splane was set
by Panasic. Splane dribbled into a double team, but a foul was called against Cedarville on
Hubert, so Hillsdale will inbound 20 seconds on the shot clock and seven minutes to play in the
fourth quarter McDonald inbounding for Hillsdale. None of Hillsdale's characteristic bigs on the floor. It's
Panassick, rather, in the forward spot.
Patrizik in the corner passes to Splane.
Splane enters to Panassick.
Panasic with a pivot move and puts up the two-point shot with her left hand.
Ella Sellers came in on the help defense and came in a bit too close.
Panasic stepped directly into Sellers and Sellers was called for the shooting foul.
So Panac will go to the line for two.
Hillsdale, still without Ellie Bruce or Marilyn Popple on the court trying to work in down low,
get something strong and fanastic.
She already just made her first free throw.
They're trying to get points out of this possession,
trying to do what's already been working for Hillsdale.
And it seems like they're going to keep doing it.
It was a stellar game for both Bruce and Popplewell to this point.
So Coach Brennan, given them both a well-earned break.
And should she need them here with an 18-point list,
16, make that a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter,
Zaycheck dribbles coast to coast and puts in a very tough floater.
for Cedarville.
Bruce and Popplewell, should coach Brennan need them,
will be very rested coming in here in the fourth quarter.
It's Patricic with the ball for Hillsdale.
Pass to Panassic.
Enteres to Alicinavicious with a cut to the basket.
Open, left hand, two points.
72.54 Hillsdale.
Hubert will bring the ball up for Cedarville.
Passed to Zaychick.
Zaychik to Betts.
And back out to Zaychik at the top of the key.
He tries to drive against Alicanavicious.
good defense from Alicanavicious.
Zaychick throws up a two anyway, but the tight defense is there,
and the shot is no good.
Rebounded by Spley.
McDonald will bring the ball up for Hillsdale, guarded by Hubert.
Hubert looking for a steal, but can't get it.
The pass to Alicnavicious, to Petrizzik, and back out to Panassik at the top of the key.
McDonald on the right side receives the pass, set it.
The pick is set by Panassic.
McDonald opts not to use it passing out to Splean.
Splane drives left hand.
The ball is stolen by Casey.
Kyle, Splane on the ground as Cedarville has a five-on-four advantage here.
Splane back up and back on her side.
Hubert puts up a three with the advantage.
It's no good.
Hits nothing but a spectacular save from Melissa Kincaid.
Gets the ball back out to Cedarville.
The passes to Amaris Betts, who puts up another three, and it's no good for Cedarville.
It does look like both teams are starting to really fight now.
Cedarville gets back in the game, got it down to 18 points.
compared to Hillsville's last three.
They're trying to do something, and you saw that off of that last possession,
where Cedarville jumped out of bounds, found the ball in the air, threw it back in,
and every person on the court was fighting for that ball afterward.
Can Cade and Betts check out for Cedarville?
And for them are Emma Downing and Emma Neff.
Excuse me, Chloe Downing and Eminemf.
Hillsdale brings the ball up, finds Elise Petrizzik,
in the left corner and wide open.
Petrizzik puts up another three,
and it is good for Petrissik,
an excellent game for her,
both offensively and defensively.
She makes the three,
giving Hillsdale 75 on the night
with five minutes to play in the fourth
and a 21-point lead
against these Cedarville yellow jackets.
It's Zaycheck with the ball,
on the left side, passes to Kyle.
Kyle looked to put up a shot,
but it was batted out of her hands by Splane.
She was able to corral it again,
drove, and tried to put up
two with her left hand. It was no good rebounded by
McDonald who brings the ball up for Hillsdale.
McDonald crosses over against
Neff, finds Popalwell, open
for two under the basket. Popalwell misses
the two, but grabs her own rebound, passes up
Circa Alka Novicious. Alka Novice
drives into the left hand and scores
against three Cedarville defenders.
It is 77, 54,
under five to play in the fourth.
Neff with the ball for Cedarville. Pest to Zaychick
at the top of the key. Zaychick
to Kyle on the left elbow.
Kyle crosses court to Downing
the right corner guarded by Popowell. Screen is set by Zaychick. Downing open for a moment there,
attempts to enter the ball with Kyle, and it's batted out of bounds by Lauren McDonald, checking in
for Hillsdale now. McCormick and Rulman for Splain and Alicanovichus. Cedarville needs to start
something right here, down 22, less than five to play. They're going to need the three-point shot here,
and it appears Coach Miller recognizes that well. It's gone with a shooting lineup here. Hubert,
passes to Neff.
Neff on the right side against Rulman.
Nothing there.
The shot clock expires as Neff puts up a desperation shot from the free throw line.
Excellent defense from Rulman.
Hillsdale will take the ball on a shot clock violation.
And Cedarville now in full press.
Excellent defense from Hillsdale there.
They did exactly what they wanted.
Cedarville tried to run the five out,
but they weren't willing to take the three immediately.
And it led to them getting stumbled and stopped.
And Hillsdale was able to find.
forced shot clock violation. Petruzic passes to
Rulman for Hillsdale to McCormick on the left side. McCormick
dribbles in and halts before getting to the basket,
opting to put up a mid-range shot uncontested.
It's no good rebounded by
looks like Jenna Sandell for Cedarville.
Cedarville now with the ball.
The passes to Ella Sellers,
who drives with the left hand and puts up a two.
The foul is called a block against Lauren McDonald.
And McDonald will check out for Splane.
That'll likely be the end of McDonald's night.
It looks to be your fourth personal foul.
And Petrissik will also too.
That for Mr.
An excellent game, an excellent game from Petrissick and McDonald.
Offensively, Petrissic, an excellent shooting night.
And defensively for McDonald, spectacular, not to mention plenty of assists.
Keep sharing that ball around the Hillsdale lineup and especially in the post.
as McCormick and Splane are in Popplewell, Rulman, and Panassick.
The inbound pass is to Splane.
77-56 moves the ball up court to Kendall McCormick,
who hits the brakes and passes back to Splane.
The ball is stolen by Ellis Ellers,
but poked out again by Marilyn Popplewell
and corrout by Kendall McCormick,
who drives in and puts up a two off of a pivot.
The foul is called against Cedarville,
and McCormick will go to the line for two.
McCormick has fought all night long.
She's already had four steals.
You see her get into a bit of an iffy situation there,
but she just hustled more than everyone else on the court,
ends up getting the ball,
plays into the pressure, gets the shot up still,
and now she's at the free throw line.
Ellie Bruce now back in the game for Hillsdale,
checking in for Popplewell.
McCormick with the first shot is good.
7856 Hillsdale with another free throw coming.
It's Borgette.
Hubert, Sandel, Neff, and Sellers for Cedarville.
The second shot is no good for McCormick, rebounded by Neff, passes to Hubert.
Sprinting up court, Cedarville, looking to get any bucket here.
The passes back out to Sellers, and Cedarville offense has to slow down.
Entry passes to Sandell is not corralled, taken by Ellie Bruce.
Passes to Caitlin.
Three to play, Hillsdale, on their way to the semi-final game.
Splain tries to enter to Ellie.
Bruce. That pass can't be corraled either and it is out of bounds off of Bruce.
Cedarville will take over down 22 with just under three to play.
Hubert taking the ball up for Cedarville.
Passes to Neff on the left side of the court.
Moves to Sellers in the corner.
Sellers looking to drive against Panassick.
Nothing going there.
Ops for a fadeaway two-pointer off of one leg.
Nearly banks it in on the tough defense from Panasic, but no good.
with the ball for Hillsdale enters to Bruce.
Bruce puts up the two-point hook shot and it looks like she took a shot to the face in the
process.
It's no good as she jogs back to her end.
Hubert takes the ball for Cedarville, breaks open on it, penetration to the free throw line,
and puts up a mid-range shot.
It's good.
78.58.
Good night for Reagan Hubert on Cedarville as Caitlin's plane will take the ball for Hillsdale.
pass to Rulman in the high post.
Backdoor cut from Sydney, Panassic.
Excellent pass from Rulman, but Panassick
bobbled the catch as she was
looking to put up the two-point shot, and it's
out of bounds off of Panassic.
Now in for Hillsdale
are Peyton Edkins
and Sarah Alicanavicious
with Splain, Bruce, and Panasic
also on the court.
McCormick checking out for the night,
as does Rulman. Two minutes left
here at the Dawn Tivis
it's Potter Arena. Hillsdale up 20 in this quarter final matchup.
Cedarville brings the ball up. It's Borgette.
Looks to get a quick basket driving in for the layup. The foul is called.
Shot is no good, so she will shoot two at the free throw line.
Yeah, Cedarville hasn't been able to get a lot going here.
They've gotten back up to 58 points, but it's still a 20-point game.
We thought that three-point ball might come in clutch in this fourth quarter,
but they haven't made any three since those initial two.
the first four minutes of the game.
And now they're down 20.
They've got shots at the charity stripe.
Let's see if they can get something going.
Borsgett misses her first shot as Splain and Panasic checkout for Hillsdale.
And the Salarski twins, Amelia and Magdalena, check in for Hillsdale.
Second shot by Borgette.
It's up and it's good.
Now that's not to mean negated.
I mean, Cedarville has still had a good.
great night shooting. He's shooting 43% from the field as opposed to their 36% last time.
So there's an improvement, but it's just not quite what they needed.
Solarski breaks the press, passes up to Adkins, who enters to Bruce.
And same old story, Ellie Bruce puts in the two-point shot against some tough Cedarville defense.
Minute 30 left to play. Hillsdale with 80 points on the night.
Cedarville drives. It's sellers putting up the layup. No good. Rebounded by Neff.
Poked away. Sarah Alicanavicious ends up with the ball.
on the fast break, looks to put up the two-point shot and is fouled by Casey Kyle in the process.
Sarah Alicinavicious will head to the line for Hillsdale, looking to add the 81st and 82nd points on
the night as Bruce checks out. Popplewell checks in.
Bruce checks out with 18 points on the night. A fantastic day for her as she continues.
And it looks like Coach Brennan will be sending Panassic back in for Alicahevitius after these free throws.
first one rims out for Alecinovicious
second shot is up
no good
rebound and the neff
Cedarville brings the ball up
down 21 here
Casey Kyle dribbles in
passes back out to Ella Sellers for three
sellers puts the three in
giving her three more on the night
it is 80 to 62 Hillsdale
Magdalena Solarski passes all the way
up court to Peyton Adkins who tries to enter
to Maryland Popwell
Popplewell can't corral the ball and the Neff gets it and passes to Ella Seller.
Sellers drives and passes to Casey Kyle.
It's off Kyle's foot and taken by Marilyn Popplewell.
The press is still there from Cedarville and Populwell.
Sellers inbound the ball to Zaychick, guarded by Adkins.
Zaychick passes out to Neff and back to Zaychick right side of the court against Adkins.
Zaychik drives, spins and puts up a nice two-pointer against Adkins.
Excellent conversion there from Zaychik.
The inbound passes to Adkins, who attempts to dribble through the double team,
and a block is called against Ellis Sellers.
Hillsdale retains possession with 30-second play to play a 16-point lead
and a trip to the semifinals just around the corner.
As Hillsdale goes to the line, it's been a great night for it.
Ellie Bruce is shooting 8 of 11 from the field at 73%.
Only 2 of 6 in the free-thler line,
but that has not been the name of her story,
with their 18 points leading the team.
Three Hillsdale Chargers with over 10 points.
That's Ellie Bruce, Caitlin Splain, and Marilyn Powell.
That up top of the top of the key from the three point
with Caitlin's plane has been going in, and so is the low post.
Adkins makes the first shot, misses the second.
Rebound is to Cedarville.
The shot clock is off as Bursget will bring the ball up
as the Hillsdale bench readies to move on to the semi-final round.
Bourgette penetrates and puts him the two.
against Popplewell, 8166. The inbound's pass is to Magdalena Solarski,
passes back to Panassic. The press is broken, and Hillsdale will hold the ball here as time expires,
and the crowd applauds as Hillsdale is heading to the semi-final round of the GMAC tournament.
Amelia Solarsky dribbles the clock out, 8166 for Hillsdale against the tough Cedarville team,
but a dominant performance at all levels.
The Hillsdale offense was just unstoppable than I, Fade.
Exactly.
It was that low post that we saw out of Popowell and Bruce.
And the last time these teams played on in the 30th of January,
we saw Savannah Smith and Ellie Bruce work together,
having combined 28 points.
Now we have combined 29 points for Popplell and Bruce.
And so the story has been that low post,
and it's worked in the last game.
It worked in this game.
Hillsdale was able to work that,
That strong physical advantage over Cedarville, the entire game,
and they just never let up, scoring 81 points.
A spectacular win for Hillsdale, great all-around performances.
Lauren McDonald and Caitlin Spleyne leading the offense,
as they often do.
Ellie Bruce scoring Marilynne Popplewell, spectacular off the branch,
and then Annelie Petrissic and Kendall McCormick,
spectacular showings at their own regards.
So, Peyton, who's your MVP at this get?
I think of a couple people.
I think of Lauren McDonald and I think of Ellen Bruce.
Lauren McDonald, because not for points.
She only had nine points today, less than her 15 average,
but she had a ton of assists.
She had a ton of rebounds,
and she was doing everything offensively besides scoring the points.
She was moving the ball around,
especially to Ellie Bruce down low, who's my other player of the game.
She had 18 points, just like I said, a second ago,
and she could not be stopped, not by Chloe Downing,
and not by Ella Sellers.
She kind of did her way, and she kept scoring, getting 18 points, and shooting 8 of 11 on the night.
So the Hillsdale Women's Basketball team will move on in the GMAC tournament.
They entered the two-seat.
They hosted Cedarville tonight in what was a great showing offensively.
They were able to control what was basically the entire game.
After a close first quarter, the offense pulled away at every level from the starters and the bench.
Hillsdale looked the clear superior team tonight.
So that's where we'll leave it as Hillsdale moves on to the semi-final round coming out with
the win, 81-66 tonight.
And that's not all, as the Hillsdale men's team will also play tonight against Ashland
in their first round of the GMAC men's basketball tournament coming up here in about 20 minutes.
