Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. We're coming in a little bit late to the Hillsdale women's game. We're dealing with a few technical problems. Apologized for that. We're 719 left in the second quarter and the chargers are down 18 to 21. Going up against the Finley Oilers. My partner in crime today, Mr. Jack Robinson. Jack, want to give us a quick recap of what's going on so far?
Starting point is 00:00:23 So Hillsdale jumped out to a 7-0 start. Everything was going in our direction. and then their best player for Finley, Kate Ellis, just decided to take over this game, 10 points already so far. Same with number four. Who's at Lauren Hapgood? She has nine points already. They have 19 of the 21 points so far. I mean, it's been a two-woman duo right there and we just can't really stop them.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Yeah, Ellis is a senior guard for Finley. She's an excellent player, leading score. And the Chargers just lost to this Finley team. Saturday at Finley in a close game. looking to even up the series here today. The Chargers need to win one of their next two games in order to qualify for the women's GMAC tournament.
Starting point is 00:01:07 You're absolutely right. We're in a three-way tie for fifth right now and there are only eight teams from the GMAC that may get into the tournament run and there are nine teams currently left that still have a fighting chance with two games left on the schedule. If we win one of these games, we're automatically in. Hillsdale and this Finley team,
Starting point is 00:01:25 are extremely evenly matched. Let's just go ahead and get to the action. Sydney Mills will rebound for the Chargers. Lauren McDonald, bring it up. It's a 19 to 21 game with six minutes and 50 seconds left. McCormick takes a short jump shot in the mid-range, buries it. That's big for Hillsdale. That's big for Hillsdale.
Starting point is 00:01:42 What a tough shot there. A little bit of a scoring drought. You know, two runs. Hillsdale came out hot. Then Finley answered, and now we're starting to even things up. Stanley has it outside for the Oilers. swings it to the top of the key and then down to Halfgood in the corner
Starting point is 00:01:57 Halfgood brings it out picks up her dribble, swings it to Stanley and over to Ellis Ellis has had the hot hand Double team and she's ball stolen by Lauren McDonald. Great defense from McDonald Skip pass up to Splane Splane takes the three
Starting point is 00:02:12 Oh! In and out looked good at first but couldn't get it to go That would have been the caps of the momentum swing right there. As talented as this Finley team is you knew our early lead was going to go away at one point. Hotly contested game. Zeeler has it inside.
Starting point is 00:02:29 And they're going to say... Before the shot, she was fouled. I think, yep, they're going to say she was fouled on the floor. Not a shooting foul. This Danny Holbein checks in for the chargers. Stanley will throw it in from underneath the basket. Gets it up to Zeeler. Pass up on Ellis down to Hapgood.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Halfgood cross court pass to Stanley. They're trying to get it inside to Zeler. She's the dominant post player. The screen on Mills, Stanley uses it. Little pick and roll action. Good defense from the Chargers, though. Ball is out of bounds off Finley. It'll be a turnover.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Charger basketball. It tied up at 21, 21, with five minutes and 39 seconds left in this second quarter. McDonald brings it up for the Chargers. Quick pass to Hallbine. Screen from Smith and they're going to call a foul an illegal screen on Savannah Smith. Don't know if I agree with that one. Smith is coming off a great game against this Finley team on Saturday too.
Starting point is 00:03:40 She had a career high 11 points for the freshman. Shot really well from the outside of that game. Three for three from deep. You're absolutely right. She's already missed one from downtown. She's trying to see if she's trying to see if she was still in that like flow state right there. I had to get a quick one up early. She's going to sit down. Ashley Conkall will check back in for the Chargers.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Ellis has it outside number 10. That is Addison Freeman with a shot. No good. Offensive rebound from Finley, but they traveled. It'll be Charger basketball. Mills passes it into McDonald. Offensive rebounds already eight of them for Finley. Those does usually a very good rebounding team, number one in the GMAC actually.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Some deep shots and some long rebounds. Saturday we got out rebounded by 10, our worst margin of the year. Yeah, big reason why Chargers were unable to cut them away the victory in that game. As Sidney Mills buries a three from the top of the key, she's so comfortable taking that shot. She absolutely is, and on Saturday she actually became Chargers' all-time leading rebounder, and she is also, what would I say, eighth in total points and six in total blocks. No, it's been a privilege to watch Sydney Mills play for the past five years for the Chargers, five seasons. A historic career here.
Starting point is 00:05:05 As Finley, no good but another offensive rebound. Ellis has it. Nice little move to get inside, takes the foul and finishes through the context. He's going to have an opportunity for a three-point play. She's going to get her season average already in the first half here. It's about to end up with 14 points. after she goes to the line when we come back from a break. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM.
Starting point is 00:05:30 This is The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group. In 1961, President Kennedy informed the world of America's intent to send man to the moon and back again. Eight years later, a Saturn 5 rocket generating 8 million pounds of thrust carried Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins. and Buzz Aldrin on their historic journey. But when it came to actually landing on the moon, with only 20 seconds of fuel remaining, Armstrong had to maneuver the craft away from dangerously rocky terrain. Minutes later, Neil Armstrong emerged with his now historic words.
Starting point is 00:06:14 That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. This has been the Making of America. I'm Michael Emerson. and you can visit us at jeffersonmediagroup.com. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. Hillsdale Women's Basketball, taken on the Finley Oilers in a very important game as far as the GMAC tournament is concerned.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Chargers up 24 to 23 with four minutes and 19 seconds left in the second period. Kate Ellis will be shooting at the line for Finley. Ellis, excellent start to this game offensively. already almost at her season average. You're absolutely right. 14 points. So she's going for 13 right here. She's going for 13 points right here.
Starting point is 00:07:12 You can tell she was determined to be aggressive going into this game on the offensive end as she makes that free throw. The three-point play is successful. That was their first trips to the line so far. We're almost 16 minutes into this game. First free throw for Finley. Yep.
Starting point is 00:07:28 A very evenly matched game. That's what we expected coming in here. was able to get a quick basket nice assist from Ashley Conkall to Anna Petrazig. Good action there, feed into the post and then Conkled dished it off as she was cut to the basket. Freeman has it outside for the Oilers. Ellis now in the corner. Dribbles out, thinks thought about the shot, passed it up. Stanley now has it in the opposite corner. Hapgood at the top of the key.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Pump fake. Now gets it inside to Zeeler. Zeeler trying to go look. Nice ball movement there from the Oilers that led to the basket from Freeman. Great extra pass. They're usually big men or big women. Don't have that vision like that, but great baseline cut there and an easy score because of the extra pass. Yep. Great offense there for the Oilers is McDonald takes it off the drive inside tough finish off the glass, right down the middle for Lord McDonald. I'll start with that quick first step, that rip move, got it going downhill. Freeman has it outside for the Oilers. Now to end to Hapgood. Mills defending. Now over to Stanley. Stanley takes
Starting point is 00:08:40 a long two. It's blocked. I think Concoe got a piece of it. Mills is the rebound. Now McDonald, bring it up for the Chargers. Splane on the outside. Over to Petrazek. Inside to Conkull. A little turnaround jump shot from Conkled. No good. Mills fighting for the rebound. They're going to say it's going to stay with the charges. The ball goes. out of bounds. Kendall McCormick is going to check back in for Caitlin Splean. Gargers lead 28, 26,
Starting point is 00:09:14 with two minutes and 40 seconds left in this first half. Lauren McDonald will throw it in. All into Kendall McCormick. Pretty far outside, dribbles up towards the three-point line. Ellis on defense. McDonald, trying to get in position under the basket. She gets the post-feed. Loses the ball, gets it back,
Starting point is 00:09:37 kicks it out to McCormick. McCormick drives. puts it up with the right hand guy thought she lost possession of the ball she got it back made the layup and drew the foul i love her energy and celebration afterwards you can tell how hard these ladies need this win she's a little bit of a spark plug she's got a lot of energy plays really good defense and she's aggressive on the offensive end usually makes up her mind to drive and doesn't look back and you need players like that on your team that just come in have instant impact like that whether they're scoring or not it doesn't matter as long as they bring that energy
Starting point is 00:10:09 an effort that goes a long way. Unable to make the free throw as Hapgood brings it up for the Oilers. Chargers lead by four. Coming in on two minutes left in this first half. Stanley has it outside. Meshire, then over to Ellis. What a quick move from Ellis.
Starting point is 00:10:25 You just drew blue right past the defense. Kick the ball to the corner with a three-pointer from Hapgood. There's no good. Conkel, the rebound. McDonald. Skip pass to Petrusick. Inside to Mills. A little tip pass to Conkel. McDonald, nice little give and go there, but you can't get the finish.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Offensive rebound, Sidney Mills, and the putback is good. That was a lot going on there for the Chargers on offense. As Finley's already down at the other end, and they're going to get a shot inside here, it looks like. Wasting no time, the Chargers are able to recover on defense. Out to Hapgood, now out to Ellis. Stanley has it in the corner. Little pick and roll action. Meshire at the top, doesn't like the three.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Hapgood now with McCorm. McCormick defending. Shot clock winding down and they're going to get a foul. A foul on Kendall McCormick. The shot clock was at four. Unfortunate for Hillsdale. A little veiled out there is we have a minute and 30 seconds before we had to halftime. Hillsdale's up 3226. Caitlin Spley going to check back in for Kendall McCormick as the Oilers were inbound the pass under the basket. It's out to Freeman. Now to Halfgood. A little pick and roll. Action. Freeman was ready for the ball but she gets it and now we got a jump ball Sidney Mills is in there she was not ready for that pass Sydney Mills has been everywhere she has seven points
Starting point is 00:11:51 so far which is awesome but her impact goes much further than the stat sheet says she's been getting some offensive rebounds for us she has two assists already she's leading the team in rebounds and assists well she's filling up the stats sheet is what she's doing but she's doing much more than stats just show is what I'm
Starting point is 00:12:07 trying to get at as Ellis drives hard and side missed rebound McDonald. McDonald, bring it up quick. Outside to Mills, takes the three, no good. Rebound Ellis. She is out and running. Gosh, she is fast.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Oh, my gosh. She finishes the layup and transition and gets the foul. Chance for another three-point play for Kate Ellis. She has been a weapon on offense for the Oilers. She's going to find her 16th point, possibly at this free throw at times. You can tell that both of these teams have essentially everything on the line. Finley needs to win both of these games probably if they want to have a chance because it's between. Looking at a team that's 14 and 12 and a team that's 15 and 11.
Starting point is 00:12:55 You look down the stats, they're super evenly matched and we've got a 32 to 29 game with less than a minute here in the first half. McDonald has it outside for the Chargers, trying to set up some kind of drive move. Kicks it to the corner now. It's back out to Caitlin Splean. Splayton, Splane driving kick to Petrazek. A couple drives and kicks. Leads to a three-pointer from Sydney Mills
Starting point is 00:13:15 and it's good. Her second three-pointer of the first half. Finley looking to slow things down here and want to hold it for the last shot. Shot clock is off. 20 seconds left. Hillsdale leads 35 to 29. Hapgood has it for the Oilers.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Petrissick playing close, far out. Uses a screen, drives in, kick out to Freeman Freeman takes the three. No good. Rebound Petra Zick. There's five seconds left. She's got to move.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Gets it up to Panasik. Panasic puts it up. It's good if it goes. She's got it. Oh, it was a deep three-point shot right at the buzzer. Look like Maastroos from the Kaz game. If you saw that from 59 feet. She got it off just in time.
Starting point is 00:14:04 The Chargers up 38 to 29 after a huge shot from Cindy. Sydney Panassik. Wow. As we go to halftime, you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. Welcome back to Hillsdale Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. Our women's team is taking on the Finley Oilers today. We lead 38 to 29 as we're down to a couple minutes left here in halftime.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Jack, what's the story of the first half? Story of the first half, they have actually more shot attempts than us by four because the offensive rebounding right now is nine to four in favor of the Oilers. And for the Oilers, their offense is really reliant on Habgood and Ellis. They're combined nine of 17. The rest of the team is two of 16. They're going to look for their other role players to step up and hit down some open shots from all the attention that they garner. Yes, I agree. All right, we're coming up on 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:15:10 left here before half time. If you're just joining us, you missed right before the half, a thrilling, not quite half-court shot. Somewhere between a half-court and the three-point line is... She was on that logo. I think she was still on the logo. It was definitely a logo three, but Sidney Panasic for the Hillsdale Chargers had a pretty thrilling three-point shot as the clock expired to put this game at 38 to 29. Yeah, the score right now looks a little worse than it actually was.
Starting point is 00:15:44 It was a back and forth game the whole time. It was a very close game. Yeah, but now this is the biggest lead of the game so far at nine. Hillsdale got out to that quick lead and then Finley answered, and it was back and forth, neck and number of lead changes in there. As the teams are coming back out onto the court, it'll be Hillsdale's ball. Caitlin's spain will be inbounding.
Starting point is 00:16:06 they're going to look for a bigger half from her. She was pretty much non-existent for her standards in the first half. She had zero points. She struggled to get it going from outside. Took a couple of shots, but didn't make any. As McDonald has it now. Into McCormick, back down to Splane, Conkull, in the post. Able to get the ball to Mills as she's cut it in the basket,
Starting point is 00:16:28 as she gets the foul. Sidney Mills didn't make it, but she'll be shooting two at the free throw line. I've loved the game she's had so far. 4 of 7 from the field, 2 of 3 from downtown, 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists. She's doing a little bit of everything out there. Very complete game from Hillsdale's probably their most important player, Sidney Mills. He's unable to connect on that first free throw. Hillsdale leads 38 to 29 with 9 minutes and 48 seconds left in the third period.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Mills uncharacteristically misses both free throws. Oilers will storm down the court. Hapgood has it at the top of the key, swinging it around. Callahan has it. Callahan, the twin sister of Hillsdale Charger Carly Callahan. Ellis has it in the short corner for the Oilers. Backs out. Mills on defense tries to drive around her. Good defense for Mills.
Starting point is 00:17:29 The shot is no good. Rebound Conkel. McDonald brings it up for the Chargers. Ball now in the hands of Splane. Kicks it inside to Mills. Mills is able to get it to go for two points. Nice little move under the basket there to seal off the defender. Great strength and concentration as the Oilers had a,
Starting point is 00:17:46 there was a woman flying right past her when she caught the ball. She remained focused, caught it, put it sprayed up. Another two for Sydney. Excellent patience there from Mills is Oilers trying to do it from the post on their end. And they're going to call a foul. I don't think I, I don't know that I agree with that one. I think she found herself too far under the rim and she did like a pump. She's like a double move going up.
Starting point is 00:18:12 It looks like she just tried to jump back into the defender and the official. The official will give her the call. It's 44 Zeeler at the line. She makes the first free throw. Alyssa Zeeler. Game now 40 to 30. Hillsdale still leaves with eight minutes and 51 seconds left. Second shot up and it's good.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Zeeler will make those free throws count. Caitlin Splain brings it up for the Chargers. Have good defending. A little handoff back to Mills. Kick out to McCormick. McDonald catches it off the screen and drives. Picks up for dribble, kicks it out to McCormick. McCormick, driving hard to the right side.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Little scoop shot layup. Nice shot there from Kendall McCormick. What a beautiful take. A little underhand flip layup. But it was from pretty fun. out actually. It wasn't from right under the rim. She had a little distance on that one. Like I said earlier, when she makes up her mind of drive,
Starting point is 00:19:10 she's going all in. Zeeler has it in the post again for Finley, and this time she's able to connect. Two points. That's four straight points for Alyssa Zeeler. And that's what we set out coming out of the halftime break. They're going to need other players to step up. Yep. So far, Zeller has answered the call.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Callahan gets a steal on McCormick, kicks it ahead to Zeeler. Zeller slows down the drive and then gets it back to Callahan in the corner who takes the three. No good off the back of the rim, rebound McDonald. She will bring it up for the chargers. Little in and out, fake. Dish inside to Sydney Mills.
Starting point is 00:19:44 What in a pass. From Lauren McDonald to Sydney Mills. That was a beautiful transition offense. As Finley tries to do a little bit of transition offense of their own, and they're going to draw the foul. They're calling a foul on Kendall McCormick against number four, Lauren Hapgood. Super fast-paced game back and forth. Both teams looking to get out in transition.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Even after made baskets, they're just finding the other team's a little slow getting back on D. Yep. Wasted no time at all. Really like running up and down the court. Stanley has it outside for the Oilers. Smith defending for the Chargers. She just checked into the game. Balls loose. Callahan picks it up.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Mid-range shot. No good. Rebound Petrusick. McDonald has. it now. You can see every time they bring it up the court, they're looking up for the skip pass, see if there's anybody open underneath the basket. Spain has it outside, swings it to Petrizik, drives left shot blocked by Stanley. She gets her own rebound, tries to put it back up, no good. Ellis has it for the Oilers. She's bringing it up fast. She's going all the way.
Starting point is 00:20:52 She's going to draw the foul, and she goes down hard to the floor. Looks like she's okay. Gets up quickly. She'll be shooting two free throws. decided to take the ball handler. Everyone was looking for looking for their own girl and Kate just goes all the way down going to the free throw line where they are perfect four of four today Hillsdale's three of seven from the charity stripe. This game could be a little more ugly if that's how it was reversed because we're up as a 44 to 34 now. Ellis falls victim to the announcer's jinks. There you go. Misses the first free throw of the game for the Oilers. Hillsdale leads 44 to 3 to 35 three with six minutes and 58 seconds left in this third period as mackenzie shoals will check in
Starting point is 00:21:38 for the oilers Chloe callahan going to sit down spain bring it up for the chargers oilers sitting back into two three defense now let's see if the chargers can shoot them out of it they will have will have open looks from three petrazic dribbles inside kick out to spain splain for three there we go first points of the game we needed that badly and this surprising they went into a two three we were five of 11 and from downtown going into that we're now a perfect 50% so that's an interesting decision from them we'll see if they stay in the two three i doubt they do if the chargers keep shooting like that shoals has it outside post feed into zeler ball tip zeeler controls it kicks it out to hapgood trying to get it back into zeeler there's going to be a kick ball i believe it was kately splain who kicked that entry pass no foul but the ball will stay with you Oilers. Something else I found interesting. Remember they were, uh, Hillsdale employed a full, full man press, uh,
Starting point is 00:22:41 full court press in the start of this game and they kind of went away from that. But that was before we were on air. We had a little technical problems. Whoa, we have a hard foul on a rebound attempt. It was Kendall McCormick who went up for the rebound and was hit hard and went down to the floor. She's okay, pops right back up. But I believe the foul was on Zeeler. I think it was incidental just two, case of two players. is going for the ball. Splaine will bring it up for the Chargers.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Chargers now at 47 to 34. Inside DeMills, kick it out to Petra Zick for another three. Let's go. That's two straight threes for the Hillsdale Chargers. What do you want to bet that they go away from that two-three zone on the next time down court? Well, that's how you beat the two-three, right? Get the ball inside, get the defense to collapse on you,
Starting point is 00:23:27 then kick it out to your shooters. Chargers take it advantage of it in the last two possessions. They feel insulted by it. I would too. Zeeler has it inside with four chargers around her. The ball is stolen. Splane has it, kicks it to Smith, and now Kendall McCormick will bring it up. Chargers looking to really open up this game here.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Splane takes another three. No good rebound Ellis. Stop ball. She's coming fast down court. She's running, puts it up with the right hand. What a finish from Kate Ellis. Unbelievable player. Just unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:23:59 It's so impressive. Somebody to drive to the basket with that kind of speed, but still the control to lay it. in easy as we're going to go to immediate timeout. Hillsdale leads 50 to 36. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. New Orleans, Louisiana's name has just as long and significant in history as the city itself. Known for its exciting and vibrant Mardi Gras celebrations, its significant cultural impact, especially in music and cuisine, and its unique position in American history, New Orleans was first established as a city in North America by the French. Its original name was
Starting point is 00:24:33 La Nouvelle Orlean, which was after Philip the second of Orlean, who had briefly served as King Louis XVI's regent. The name Orlean itself comes from its original name under the Romans when it was called Arrelianum, after the Roman Emperor Arreelian. The Spanish acquired the area from the French in the Seven Years' War in 1763, and the city was renamed to Nueva Orleans. This lasted until 1800 when France got the territory back. Napoleon sold the city to the United States in AT03 as a part of the Louisiana purchase. It's named was changed to the more anglicized New Orleans, and it has been called that ever since. This has been What's in a Name.
Starting point is 00:25:09 My name is Megan Pickcock, and you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Welcome back. You're listening to Hillsdale Women's Basketball. Hillsdale leads 50 to 36, with five minutes and 18 seconds left in the third period. It's been a great start to this third quarter for the charges. Some hot shooting from the outside and good defense. They've opened up this lead now to 14 points. As Finley going back into a full court press for the first time since the first half,
Starting point is 00:25:40 they're trying to trap off the pass. Hillsdale handles it well, already has the ball across half court. And it leads to a short shot. That's a tougher shot than it looks from Savannah Smith. Nice little shot in the short corner there. Chargers is now 52 to 36. Stanley brings it up for the Oilers. McCormick defending kicks it over to Shoals.
Starting point is 00:26:02 She's got Mills on her. Ellis has it. Over to Stanley, and we got a foul away from the ball. It's going to be a foul. Let the girls play. Come on, what are we doing? Jack's saying let the girls play. I believe they're going to call it on Savannah Smith.
Starting point is 00:26:19 Yeah, it was a foul on Smith away from the ball. Going back into a timeout break. And we are going to take a quick time out. Well, check that immediate timeout. Oh, interesting. As you're listening to Hillsdale Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Welcome to the old ballgame where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime. I'm Tate Christensen.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Today we talk about the origin of baseball's favorite concession food, hot dogs. At early ball games, there were no official concession stands, but local people would sell food to fans who tended to eat things you would eat without utensils. And at the beginning of the 20th century, German immigrants began to help shape the culture, and people began to love their dachshund sausages, which were served with a milk roll in sourcrow. In the 1860s, Chris von der Ahee, a German immigrant and owner of the St. Louis Browns, introduced the hot dog to baseball fans.
Starting point is 00:27:12 At first, they were served without buns, and instead, customers would keep the white gloves that the hot sausages were served on. However, the gloves were eventually not being returned, and this frustrated the company. Somewhere along the line the split bun was introduced, and it fit just like a glove. And now countless hot dogs are eaten every ballgame. This has been the old ballgame.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Welcome back. You're listening to Hillsdale Charger Women's Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7 FM. Chargers opening up a little bit of a lead here in the third period as they're up 52 to 36 with four minutes and 51 seconds left. It'll be Finley Ball, imbounding underneath their own basket. Gets it into Ellis.
Starting point is 00:27:57 Ellis now kicks it over to Habgood. Habgood uses a screen to get around. and she tries to get the pick and roll past to Zeeler. It's stolen. Splane is often running for the Chargers. throws up a little bit of a questionable shot. It's no good. I think she was a little bit mad at herself for taking that shot.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Stanley now has it for the Oilers. Now swing it around. Half good to Shoals. Sholes drives baseline. Kicks it out to Ellis. Ellis, that's a good look from three. No good. Offensive rebound, Zeeler.
Starting point is 00:28:30 And there's going to be another foul. on Hillsdale. This time it's on Sydney Mills. That's the fifth team foul for the Chargers and we are now in the bonus. So Zeeler going to the line for Finley should be shooting
Starting point is 00:28:45 two. As number 10 Addison Freeman checks in for Finley. Ellis will sit down. Ellis not able to be as effective on offense as she was in the first half so far here in the second. She's going to
Starting point is 00:29:04 take a quick break as Freeman makes the first free throw. Hillsdale leads 52 to 37. Coming up on four minutes left in this third period. Freeman misses the second free throw and Hillsdale gets the rebound. Caitlin's Blaine brings it up the court. Dribble handoff to McCormick. McCormick trying to get the pass to Mills but she's called for a travel. Wasn't able to throw that pass when she wanted to and...
Starting point is 00:29:36 Defender jumped in her face a little too. quick. I didn't expect that. Took a few too many steps. Stanley brings it up. Shuffled the shoes, as someone said. Yes. Zeeler has it at the elbow.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Kicks it to Stanley. Pick and roll action. Stanley takes a deep shot. No good. Another long offensive rebound for the Oilers, though. Hapgood, another three. No good and another rebound for the Oilers. I feel like a broken record.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Hapgood has it out now. She kicks it to Stanley. Stanley using the screen. from Zeeler. Zeeler trying to get in position on Ashley Conkel. Screen and roll action between Freeman and Habgood and it's good. Freeman scores and she gets the foul. Another chance for a three point play.
Starting point is 00:30:22 And Jack, if Philly's going to offensive rebound like this, they're not out of this game. It feels like it's a closer game than it is. If they make this free throw, it'll still be a 12 point lead for the Chargers. But I don't know, just the momentum seems to be on Finley's side. If that makes any sense, even though we've outscored. this quarter. The Chargers get the rebound and now it's a foul on Zeeler. Call it both ways.
Starting point is 00:30:44 On easy there. Easy there, buddy. Easy. Well, that's just a super tickey, tacky foul. Easy, easy. Easy. Off the offensive of a free throw rebad. Let's go easy on the referees.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Yeah, let's dial it back in, Jack. As Petrizig brings it up the floor for the Chargers, up by 13 with three minutes left. McCormick has it outside. Passes it. Mills in the corner. Petrazek has it in the post. A little bounce pass to McDonald who takes a short jump shot, rolls around, no good. Rebound Callahan and another foul on the rebound. They're calling it close here. 94 feet away from the basket. We foul them and now they're going back to the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:31:27 That is a good point. A foul 94 feet away from there. It's from Lauren McDonald who just missed the shot that she usually makes. I mean, again, that's the human reaction. You just miss a shot. You want to get a quick steal. Yeah, you're going to be more aggressive than you should be going for the ball. And the refs calling it very close here in the second half. Callahan, first shot for the charges is good. I believe that's her first point of the game.
Starting point is 00:31:54 You would be right. Callahan's second shot also good. Lead now cut to 11. A little bit of pressure here on the inbound from Finley. And McDonald, after that foul, now has three fouls. Coach decided to take her out of the game. Maybe to just talk to her. Be like, hey, they're in the bonus.
Starting point is 00:32:14 You can't commit that foul like you just did. Yeah, got to be a little bit more careful than that. McCormick has it outside, kicks it to Petrusick. Petrusick. Fake drive. Now she kicks it to Mills. Mills with the post feed to conco, but the balls tipped away out of bounds. Possession stays with Hillsdale.
Starting point is 00:32:33 It's going to stay here, but we only have six seconds. Got to get into the offense super quick here. What's your best play from out of some of the ball? Yeah, they may try to get a shot off the inbound. They're trying to set up a screen. McCormick thinks about the three. She's got to put it up quick. She drives the basket, a little scoop shot.
Starting point is 00:32:53 No good, but it's going to stay with Hillsdale, and the shot clock reset because McCormick's shot hit the rim. Splane will inbound for the chargers. Now have a new shot clock inside the Mills, doesn't take it. McCormick has it at the top of the key screen conkel left hand drive for McCormick great move she's an excellent at getting to the basket tonight that's another two points she split two defenders up by the perimeter and there's no one down home once she got under the rim beautiful take good screen and a good drive off of it shoals has it in the corner for Finley post feed to zealers zealers waste no time goes right to work she's double team kicks it out wide open look for Stanley and it's good.
Starting point is 00:33:43 That's a three-pointer for Finley. They've struggled a little bit from three, but they get one that one to go. Splane running down the court fast for the chargers. McCormick has it now. A little dribble move out to Petra Zix. Waste no time taking the three. No good rebound Finley.
Starting point is 00:34:00 Stanley has it. It will slow things down a little bit here. Let you catch your breath for a second, partner. It's been super fast back and forth action. He's going to say for my stake. Callahan, taking a three in and out. Callahan, taking a three. It's no good.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Chargers lead by 10 with a minute and a half left in this third period. McCormick with the ball. McCormick dribbles over to the side. Splane off the screen, catches the pass, kicks it back out to Mills for three. No good, rebound Petrazik. Kicks it back to Splain in the corner. Her three-point attempt, no good. As they're fighting for the rebound, Findlay gets it.
Starting point is 00:34:41 It's Freeman. Gets it to her point guard Stanley as she's bringing it up. Shoals now for three. No good. A lot of shot attempts, not a lot of makes. McCormick has the rebound. Mills and now Splane. Trying to slow things down here.
Starting point is 00:34:58 We got 50 seconds left in the third period. 20 seconds left in the shot clock. Mills has it for the charges. McCormick. How to look from three doesn't take it, kicks it to Petrazik. Mills gets a beautiful shot off a screen. Nice pass, pardon. Great.
Starting point is 00:35:17 And is able to make the layup. I'm sorry. I'm at a loss for words. Such a nice play on offense. As there's roughly a four-second difference between the shot clock and game clock, Finley should get a pretty good look here. Hillsdale will be pretty rushed in whatever shot that they get.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Maybe we'll get another buzzer beater like we had. Maybe we will. Freeman has it outside. A little bit of a screen, bounce pass. Nice feed to Zeeler who finished at the basket. Four seconds left. McCormick, Chargers get a great look from three.
Starting point is 00:35:48 And it's good. The second buzzer beater of the game. Chargers steal another three points. That's six points right at the buzzer that we've stolen to cut this to a 12-point game after three quarters. Those points are big, and we are going to go to a break here before we're back for the fourth quarter. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. Welcome to. the back to the brickyard, your spot for Indianapolis 500 history here at Radio Free Hillsdale,
Starting point is 00:36:25 101.1.7 FM. I'm Christian Papillon. In 1937, the speedway was partially paved with asphalt for the first time, allowing for new speed records. Jimmy Snyder ran a qualifying lap at 130.492 miles per hour, breaking the one-lap record from the previous year by over six miles per hour. Due to the timing of Snyder's run, however, Bill Cummings ended up taking the pole with a 10-lap average of 123.455 miles per hour, with Snyder starting 19. Snyder surged to the lead by lap 4 and led the next 24 laps until mechanical problems forced him out of the race after lap 27. Wilbur Shaw took the lead and led until his first pit stop on lap 74, giving the lead to
Starting point is 00:37:09 Ralph Hepburn. Shaw took the lead back 10 laps later and led until his second and final pit stop on lap 130. By lap 180, Shaw was in the lead again and led Hepburn by about two minutes or one and a half laps. However, Shaw began to experience oil pressure trouble and began to slow. Hepburn, seeing that Shaw was in trouble, quickly unlapped himself and began to charge. Hepburn was right behind Shaw going into the final turn of the last lap. With nothing left to lose, Shaw floored the accelerator and held off Hepburn by 2.16 seconds.
Starting point is 00:37:43 At the time, it was the closest finish in 500 history and a record that would stand for the next 45 years. 37 was the last year that writing mechanics were required for all drivers. Although they would remain optional until 1964, no driver would ever use one again at Indianapolis. You have been listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. I'm Christian Papuil, and I'll catch you the next time we go back to the brickyard. Welcome back to Hillsdale Charger Basketball and Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. We just started the fourth quarter here.
Starting point is 00:38:21 It's Hillsdale's women's team taken on the Finley Oilers, Chargers lead by 13 and have the ball. It's Lauren McDonald to the top of the key. Kicks it to Sydney Mills, but there's going to be a foul on the Oilers first. As we've mentioned before, officials have called this one tight, not letting what a contact go. They sure have. As we missed Savannah Smith Block on a three-point attempt on the other end, as we now have a quick foul against the oilers. Maybe we'll be the ones in going to the line early in this quarter.
Starting point is 00:38:54 McCormick has it outside for the Chargers. Kicks it to Petrusick. Petritsick back to the top of the key, swung around to McCormick. McCormick drives left again and draws the foul. Strong drive to the basket there from Kendall McCormick. She's done that all night and she's got to have a chance for two points here. She sure has, and the main difference between this game is Hillsdale has nine girls that have scored in this game.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Very balanced attack. While for the Oilers, they have, I think, Six players. I mean, very top-heavy for the Oilers, but Hillsdale has a much more balanced attack. A lot of girls that are getting the ball with good looks and scoring when they have the opportunity. Getting even contributions from throughout the roster. McCormick misses the first free throw. Chargers lead by 13, but I'll tell you, Jack, it doesn't feel that way, but they've stolen six points at the end of the second quarter and at the end of the third, hitting three point shots at the buzzer of both of those periods.
Starting point is 00:39:56 McCormick misses a second free throw. Oilers have it now on the offensive end. Zeler up top, swing to half good, handoff to Ellis. They're going to need her to be great here in the fourth quarter. They want to close the gap. Swing past to Callahan for three, no good rebound McDonald. Ball now in the hands of Petrusick, back to McDonald. McDonald.
Starting point is 00:40:19 directing traffic at the top of the key. Going to set things up. Ball now in the hands of McCormick. Mills wants it inside. She doesn't make the pass. Savannah Smith makes it, though. A little tip pass out to McDonald for three. No good.
Starting point is 00:40:40 And I believe they're going to call. I disagree. I don't think it was a foul. They say she was out of bounds and she touched the ball. She was out of bounds and she went back in. I thought she had possessed herself back in. I thought she had both feet in. I thought she established.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Yeah. Being back in bounds as well, but officials don't see it that way. Oilers basketball, down 13. And what do we know? We're just the guys upstairs. They're the ones on the floor, you know? And I'm now an offensive foul on Ellis. Incredulous look from Ellis.
Starting point is 00:41:11 She's looking to her bench for some validation. Ellis can't believe it, but illegal screen, offensive foul on the Oilers. A little bit of pressure here is Hillsdale throws it in. McDonald brings it up. Chargers taking their time here. They got a nice lead and want to hold on to it. Mills has it on the wing. Swinging it around.
Starting point is 00:41:35 Ball now in the hands of Petrazek. He uses a screen from Smith. Mills back to McDonald. Petrizik has it. Deep two point shot, no good. Rebound Freeman. Don't love that look from us. Oh, and what an interception by Lauren McDonald.
Starting point is 00:41:52 She's going to drive all the way Finish the bucket and get the foul Unbelievable play by McDonald She's going strong Two defenders She looked like Ed Reed Playing center field I mean it was
Starting point is 00:42:07 She came out of nowhere Intercepted a cross-court pass As Finley thought they were getting things going in transition McDonald takes it the other way And then finishes at the basket Great play from Lauren McDonald Is she now cracks in the double? figures looking for her 12th point here as she hits the free throw.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Buries the free throw as she usually does. Apgood brings it up for the Oilers. Chargers now up 62 to 46 with seven minutes 45 seconds left in the game. Zeeler has it at the elbow, kicks it to the corner. It's Callahan. Callahan driving off the screen. She passes to Zeeler rolling who can't finish at the basket, charge a rebound. McDonald will bring it up. Splane wants the ball. McDonnell doesn't see her. Splane has it now.
Starting point is 00:42:57 Takes the three. No good. Long rebound Callahan. Finley, off and running. Ball inside to Zeeler. A little bit of a mismatch there. Can't get the bucket,
Starting point is 00:43:08 but she'll get the foul. Fowl's called on Caitlin. Definitely a size mismatch there. She couldn't believe it. And I don't really blame her. She didn't have the size or anything. It looked like she went straight up, but not how the ref saw it.
Starting point is 00:43:22 Hillsdale, we're almost in the bonus here with seven minutes left in the quarter. Yeah, four fouls, four fouls called against Finley in this quarter. It's flip-flop of what we saw in the third period. Zeller, taking the first free throw. It's good. Score now, Hillsdale 62, Finley 47. These two teams played on Saturday. Finley won by four.
Starting point is 00:43:49 Very close game. We were coming back in that fourth. quarter very valiant effort but couldn't get the job done in Zeller misses the free throw and the ball will roll out of bounds off of really? They're going
Starting point is 00:44:04 to say it was off of Hillsdale and student section does not agree with that call you guys can probably hear the fans behind us couldn't believe it not very happy Oilers have the ball it's Ellis outside now to Stanley swinging around
Starting point is 00:44:21 gets it to Sholes Shulls driving kick ball now ends up in the hand to Ellis Ellis drives hard to the right and she they're going to say the foul happened on the floor no basket but she will get the foul
Starting point is 00:44:37 she's an incredible player I can't sit at enough she is very talented very athletic and create any shot she wants very quick and very good control when she drives the hoop she had an explosive first half with 16 points but now with three minutes left in the fourth quarter,
Starting point is 00:44:53 she's only at 19. We're talking at halftime, she might get her career high of 25, but she's kind of slowed off a little bit. As Scholes will dribble in and get the layup for Finley. Score now 62 to 49. Hillsdale still leads it. McCormick brings it up for the Chargers.
Starting point is 00:45:10 Trying to get things set up here on offense. Petrusick has it. Post-feed to Conkel. Conkel. Trying to back down Zeeler. See what she can get here. turn around jump shot no good but she's fouled a lot of fouls in this game it's been it's been choppy and sort of disrupted any kind of flow it feels like both of these teams are struggling to get into a
Starting point is 00:45:33 flow right now because we've had so many stoppages I've loved that offense though by conco just let her work down low in the low block feels like early 2000s time of the big man you know Tim duncan on the low block like that just letting her work down there good positioning draws the foul back when two points meant something. You're absolutely right now. This garbage chucking three is from the logo. Steph Curry ruined the game of basketball. I couldn't agree more with you, partner. I'm being sarcastic. No, I'm not though. Anyway, Ashley Conkle misses the first free throw. Chargers leads 62 to 49, six and a half minutes left in this game. As Ashley will make that second free throw extending the lead to 14. They'll still struggle from the lines today. We're not
Starting point is 00:46:21 five of 12. Just imagine what the score would look like if we hit those free throws. Ellis has it outside, trying to get a screen, trying to get a handoff, three-point look for Hapgood. It's short, rebound Ellis. She dribbles back out to the three-point line, got McCormick on her. Now kicks it to Hapgood. Now to Sholes.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Sholes has Mills on her, drives baseline. That was a nice finish inside from Hapgood there. I thought she got too far into the basket, but she finished as a layup. Splane now, bring it up. nice little cross-up move to get herself free, kicks it to Conklin in the short corner. Mid-range shot, no good. Rebound Stanley.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Stanley kicking it up to Ellis. Oilers need to move quick here on offense. They're down. Cross-court pass to Hapgood. Ball now back in the hands of Ellis. Swings around the perimeter. Hapgood has it again. They've got to shoot these threes.
Starting point is 00:47:17 She's short again, though. Rebound Conkel. Defending. you'd like to get a little bit more motion there on offense. It was kind of stagnant. And for Finley, you would like Ellis to take more shots. She's still shooting super efficiently, but just not enough volume for me. I think she should be more aggressive myself.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Splane has it for the chargers at the top of the key. Getting the ball inside to Conkel again, you can see that's what they want to do on offense. Let her cook. And she draws the foul once again. She loves that left low block right there. She had a little size mismatch, gets fouled again, headed to the line. Well, when you're in a game and you know that the referees are calling it a certain way, you might as well get the ball inside, draw the foul and get to the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:48:00 Absolutely right. And we've struggled there today, as we said, but still, this slows down the game a little bit, lets you get back set on defense to try to protect this lead. Yes, we miss the free throw again. Chargers continue to struggle from the free throw line. Ashley Conkel misses the first. Hillsdale still leads 63 to 51 with five minutes left. the game. Second free throw from Conkle is good. Chargers. Chages. Up by 13. As Conkill will sit down,
Starting point is 00:48:34 Savannah Smith will check into the game. See if they still be as aggressive in the post on offense. Sholes has it outside for the Oilers. Trying to get the post feet on this end to Ellis and calling the foul on Petrusik. I don't think he can throw the ball into the ball. posting this game without getting a foul called. I agree with you. We're going to go into a time out here. Hillsdale's leading with five minutes left in the game, 64-51. They're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Starting point is 00:49:08 This is The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group. As of 2023, out of the 3,500 Medal of Honor recipients, only one is a woman, just one. And her name is Dr. Mary Walker, a graduate of Syracuse Medical College in 1861, she tried to join Union Forces as a surgeon, but was denied because she was a woman. Not one to be stopped. She then joined the Army as a volunteer surgeon. While treating battlefield wounded, she also started a woman's relief organization, helping the families of wounded seeking to visit their loved ones. In 1865, Dr. Mary Walker was awarded the Medal of Honor by President
Starting point is 00:49:51 Andrew Johnson. This has been the Making of America. I'm Michael Emerson, and you can visit us at jeffersonmediagroup.com. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball, taking on the Finley Oilers. Hillsdale hangs on to a 13-point lead here in the fourth quarter. We've got four minutes and 53 seconds left. Chargers up 64 to 51.
Starting point is 00:50:22 It'll be Finley ball. underneath the basket. They get the ball inside to Ellis. They really want to get her going. Double-team, though, is hap good. Takes the shot. No good. Another offensive rebound for Finley.
Starting point is 00:50:40 Scholes has it outside. Ellis wants it, doesn't get it. Sholes takes it in herself, and she gets the right-handed layup. She did nothing in the first half, it felt like, but she's been everywhere in the second half for this Euler offense. Somebody's got to be aggressive on offense for, Finley as the Chargers beat the press, get it into their side of the court.
Starting point is 00:51:00 Savannah Smith inside, kick out to McCormick, thought about the three, didn't take it. Now has it at the top of the key, swings it to Splane on the wing, back to McCormick, seven seconds left in the shot, got Clock Splane, puts up the three, no good, rebound Sholes. Stanley has it for the Finley Oilers. Now to Hapgood. Now to Ellis. that ball inside maybe not she drives puts up a tough shot no good rebound chargers just like at some point finley's going to have to go to the three point line but they're shooting horrible today six
Starting point is 00:51:40 to twenty six from downtown as we only have three and a half left and they're down 11 hasn't been their strength today but they're going to need to score quickly if they want to get back in this game as the as kennel mccormick draws another foul she's driving the hoop it'll be on the floor but i leave believe we're in the bonus now. So she will be shooting two free throws. You're absolutely right. As we have the men's team filing out behind us. They're getting ready for their game right after this.
Starting point is 00:52:09 Yep. Double header today at Dawn Tibbitts Potter Arena. Candle McCormick taking this first free throw. And it's no good again. Hillsdale struggling at the free throw line is the only thing that's kept Finley in this game. Absolutely right. And their offensive rebounding.
Starting point is 00:52:26 Finley has killed us on the offensive glass. 15 offensive rebounds in this game. As McCormick will miss both free throws, Mills unable to get the rebound. Finley has it. Chargers up 64 to 53 with 3.5 minutes left. Stanley has it for the Oilers. Now Zeeler at the elbow.
Starting point is 00:52:47 Hand off to Shoals, not handled well. Stanley has it now. Stanley was mad. She didn't get the ball earlier. She felt like she was open from behind our. wanted a chance at the three Ellis now with a chance at a three-pointer puts it up short again tough rebound from Sidney Mills and it's
Starting point is 00:53:04 going to be a foul on Zeeler and now they fouled 94 feet away from the rim and we're going to the free throw line as Sydney excuse me not Sydney she's holding her face that is pretty tough under the rim there she's lost a few teeth before
Starting point is 00:53:20 yeah I mean she's she's an aggressive player yeah I mean that's what you get You're the all-time rebounding leader at Hillsdale College. Some elbows being thrown down there on the low block. It comes with the territory. You're absolutely right. When you get as many rebounds as she does.
Starting point is 00:53:37 So her first free throw attempt is good. Yeah, it looks like she got hit on the nose there. Yeah. We will see her in the little mask after upcoming games. Maybe a little mask revenge game. Second free throw no good. Chargers lead by 12. moves it up quickly for Finley.
Starting point is 00:53:57 It seemed like in the first half, they tried to really run once they got the defensive rebounds and gets some fast break points. Completely gone away from that in the second half, it seems like. As Scholes will put up a three for Finley, it's no good. Splane on the rebound. No numbers, yeah. Yeah, no numbers. Slow it down here.
Starting point is 00:54:16 She's hurting a little bit close to that mid-court line. Another foul on Finley. Splane will be shooting for the Chargers. She fouled her on the low. go too. You didn't need to foul in that scenario. And now we're going back to the line with two and a half left up 12. Maybe they're just trying to extend this game as much as they can. I mean, are we already getting to fouls?
Starting point is 00:54:36 I don't think so. I mean, the way that we're shooting free throws today, maybe, but Sydney just snacked down one on the other trip. And now Splean hits the first of two here. Chargers up by 13. Splane splits at the free throw line, goes one for two. score 66 Hillsdale Findley 53 2 and a half minutes left in the game
Starting point is 00:55:00 Stanley brings it up for the Oilers McCormick defending now Blaine Stanley running around the court gets to the basket shot is no good but she draws another foul this might be the most fouls I've ever seen called in a game and I probably like we had a late start to the broadcast here a little technical difficulty
Starting point is 00:55:23 difficulties on our end, but there were no fouls in that whole first quarter that we missed here. Yeah, the first quarter went by quick. Flew by, yeah. Since then, this game has been very choppy. Stanley at the line for Finley. First shot good. 12-point game. Two minutes and 23 seconds left.
Starting point is 00:55:47 Second shot coming here. And it's good. Stanley hits both. And Addison Freeman will check in for Finley. Finley going to apply some pressure here on the inbound. Splane has it. Over to Mills to McDonald. MacDonald able to beat the defense. Kick it inside to Smith. Nice shot, fake, and a finish. Great move from Savannah Smith. Beautiful patience by the freshmen. Understand that Finley was late getting back,
Starting point is 00:56:19 that they were going to have to overplay and sell for the block. Get her up in the air. Yep. Went straight up afterwards. Great move led to the easy. layup and as Ellis drives baseline ball goes out of bounds off of Hillsdale it'll stay with Finley minute and 58 seconds left chargers up 68 to 55 hop good has it outside try to get it inside to zealor and it's stolen by McCormick nice defense there from the charges McDonald taking her time bringing it up the court McCormick has it on the wing Now to Splane, back to McCormick. Post-feed to Smith, out to Mills.
Starting point is 00:57:02 A lot of movement here from the Chargers. Trying to use as much clock as they can. McCormick has it outside, little double screen. Mills slips the screen and finishes at the basket. What a move. Beautiful pass. Super savvy by Sydney there to just understand where there was no one in help defense under the rim.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Yes. Finley answers on the other end. Yeah, Finley answers, It's Habgood getting the layup, driving baseline. As Hillsdale leads 70 to 57, we've got a timeout. We'll go to a quick break. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. Hillsdale College challenges you to rise to self-government,

Welcome back to Hillsdale Charger basketball. We missed a little bit of a sequence there. Finley got another basket off of a steel. Now an 11-point game, Hillsdale leads 70 to 59 with a minute left, and we're going to take another 30-second time out. or you know what let's just stay on air let's let's let's just go ahead and stay on here because they're about to be right back out on the court just a short break for the hillsdale's ball Ellis jumps up to 21 points after that Ellis is now at 21 but hillsdale here you just got to be smart protect the basketball they got a foul you make
Starting point is 00:59:21 your free throws on the other end well that's not a given today we're shooting 40% from the line on 20 attempts. So the sample size is pretty large and we just haven't shown that we can consistently knock it down. Tough day from the line is Finley trying to trap on the inbound. They don't get it so they got a foul. Lauren McDonald going to the free throw line and she is our best free throw shooter. She's 83% on the season. So hopefully we can write our woes at the free throw line with Lauren McDonald. And the first shot is good. Chargers now up 71 to 59 with less than a minute to go in this game. A win here secures Hillsdale a spot in the GMAC tournament. She misses the second one actually. We're only up by 12 55 seconds. Ellis brings it up, bounce past to Stanley, doesn't take the three.
Starting point is 01:00:15 You need to shoot that shot. Back out to Ellis. They're taking a lot of time here. Hapgood takes the three. No good rebound, spain. Try to get the steal and they call a quick jump ball it's the right call though it will be hillsdale yes hillsdale's ball 43 seconds left it's a 12 point game sidney panassick in bounds for the chargers finley going all out press here trying to get a steal they don't get it Lauren McDonald beats it races up the court pass to McCormick and i don't think the oilers will foul I think they're just going to go ahead and let Chargers, dribble houses. Instead, McCormick takes the drive to the basket. I love that.
Starting point is 01:00:59 Unexpectedly takes the... Games not over. Takes the layup. Games not over. Put this game to bed. Extend that lead to 14. Finley tries to answer on the other end and draws the foul under the basket. Number 44 out. Alyssa Zeler. She's done a really good job being aggressive in the second half, but it's going to be too little too late here.
Starting point is 01:01:21 She had zero at halftime, I believe. now she might get her 10th point here. Kind of making up. Ellis had 16 points at halftime. She only had 5 in the second half. Same with Habgood. Halfgood had 9 at halftime. She only had two in the second half too. So their two leading scores kind of went away.
Starting point is 01:01:38 They had 25 at the 29 points at halftime for Finley and only, what is that, eight points in the second half? Zeeler makes both the free throws. Chargers have the ball now and the shot clock is off. They don't have to do anything. Unfortunately, they lose it out of bounds. There's just no way. With 15 seconds left, you score 12 points, though.
Starting point is 01:01:56 Along, I don't think they can score 12 points in 15 seconds. I don't see Tracy McGrady on the court. And he did it in like 34 seconds. And he had 35. Nine seconds left, ball in the hand of Ellis. Now Taylor throws it up. It's no good. And that game is over.
Starting point is 01:02:16 Your Hillsdale Chargers win this one, 73 to 61. A little bit of a slug fest of a game. a lot of fouls, a lot of stoppages, but it's a huge win for the Chargers. As we put them in a ticket. Yeah. Harts our ticket into the GMG championship. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:02:31 For the championship, excuse me. GMAC tournament. Yes. After two wins, we'll be there. We'll play Ashland, most likely. Yes. As Ashland's just like killing it this year, have you seen that? Oh, they're defeated and GMAC play.
Starting point is 01:02:44 We saw them last week. Yeah. We don't want to see them again. I would like to prolong that if we can. Thank you for listening. Hillsdale Women's Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Stick around for the men's game starting in about 30 minutes.
