Women's Basketball: Hillsdale vs. Kentucky Wesleyan, 01/20/24 Evan Mick and Gabriel Vondrak on the call for WRFH

Hello and welcome to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM for Hillsdale Women's Basketball versus Kentucky Wesleyan. My name is Evan Mick. I'm here with my co-host, Gabriel Vondra. A very exciting game today. We are already started. Three minutes left in the first quarter. Scores currently 10 to 4 Hillsdale's lead against a very good Kentucky Wesleyan team. This Kentucky Wesleyan team is 10 and 3, always contenders in the GMAC. And they brought back four starters from a team that made the tournament last year. the NCAA tournament. Very experienced team.

It's been a great game so far. Probably as good of a start as you could ask for for the Chargers. Up 10 to 4 here with three minutes, 42 seconds left. It's a very fast-paced game, a lot of turnovers, a lot of missed shots, and they're running down there. Yeah, Wesleyan's seems to cause a lot of turnovers on the defensive end. But just as many as that, Hillsdale is getting a lot of offensive rebounds. That's been the story of the game.

A lot of second chance points for Hillsdale. that has put them to this 10-4 lead. Currently, four of the Chargers. Caitlin Splean is three. Sydney Mills is three. Kedna McCormick has two. And somebody else also is two. It is.

Ashley Concoe also is two. So nobody has scored twice for Hillsdale, but spreading the ball around early. So hopefully it's going to be a super exciting game right here as we get back into it. Yeah. And you could tell the chargers are trying. to take advantage of the size advantage that they have. They're trying to work the ball inside against a smaller Kentucky Wesleyan team.

Yeah, the best player for Kentucky Wesleyan offensively is Emmy Ralph, and she is only 5-5s. They've tried to take advantage of that size advantage a couple times here early. As the Chargers have the ball, imbounding it. After Annalise Pitcherzick on the wing, Walt's Caitlin Splain, Splean, looking for somebody. doesn't find anybody dribbles it around passes it out to panacek Panasic trying to take it out eight seconds on the shop clock

Connox dribbles it in takes the layup but misses and rebound bounces around and falls in the hands of Kentucky Wesleyan Kentucky Wesleyan pushing the ball up passes it out number two Jordan Gills Gills missed the shot and Panosick with the rebound yeah another short possession for the Panthers yeah trying to get something quick going they really work off those turnover They try to go quick, try to push the ball down. Hillsdale, though, trying to match that energy early. Petrus Zix trying to get the offense set up.

But shot clock already winding down, down to 10 seconds. Mills, ball up, passes it out to Panasik. Six seconds left in the shot clock. Panosok is going to pass it to Precizek. Pechersick for three. She's going to hit the rebound, but it's going to bounce out. Savannah Smith with the save, but unfortunately, Kentucky Wesleyan is going to end up with the ball.

They're on the run again. On the run again, but forced to kick it out. Shot fake. Kind of lost ball there. Grab control by number 10. Arena Corby. Another Hillsdale rebound. And it falls out to Hillsdale.

Splane, taking the ball up the court, trying to push it down. Find her shot. She really is a three-point shooter, so she's looking for some shots on the outside. Ball is number two. Danny Hollenbine. Hollen, taking it out. Back up to Splane. Only nine seconds left in the shot clock.

as Splain is going to go up and be fouled by number 20. Tough drive by Spley. Way to get in lane and draw the contact. Fowls in number 20. Shia Hooser. Haley and Splean will be shooting two free throws here as some new chargers are going to check in. Lauren McDonald and

With two minutes and one second left in the first quarter, those are currently up. to four as the first basket's going to roll around and fall in for spleen free throws always important early in the game late in the game especially late in the game but early in the game getting this hillsville team out to a rebound good lead and she's going to miss it but there's going to be a jump ball going for the rebound by danny hollandbine and the possession is going to stay with kentucky wesley and but good aggressiveness there by home great job causing a jump ball by hallabine as hill

is going to go into his own press here versus Kentucky Wesleyan. Oh, the press is beaten, but Hillsdale able to recover and cause a double dribble. Aggressiveness of the defense forces a double dribble, and Hillsdale steals a possession. Cindy Mills checking back into the game. Yeah, Mills is going to be inbounding the ball. Kentucky Wesleyan also pressing, but having a man press is they're going to get the ball into Lauren McDonald. And the press is going to kind of drop off. It seems to be some light pressure here.

Not man match pressure, so. The Chargers number 31, Ashley Conkel, also check back into the game. Yes. Splane is going to pass it and it's going to be tipped. Then tipped last by Hillsdale, so it's going to fall into hands of Kentucky Wesley. Kentucky Wesleyan causing another turnover. Another turnover. Trying to make a tough pocket pass there on the inside just got away from it.

Yeah, this ball is going to be dribbled up by any Ralph. The high score for Wesleyan, although they have three, four, four, four, players who are all within three points all in low double-digit scoring on average so the shot's going to be taken three-pointer bouts out round the rim and then fallout to sydney mills and then tipped out of bounds out of her hands by kentucky leslie and so it's going to be hillsdale basketball out of bounds in the baseline as annelie petersick is going to check back into the game scrappy game so far there's been no easy rebounds it seems like no couple jump balls a lot of aggressiveness though on both sides fighting for rebounds

Kentucky by sling continuing that light man pressure because they're going to get the ball back into Lauren McDonald again Hill still is this time a little more pressure by Emmy Ralph McDonald though beats the pressure and then draws a foul from number 21 Emmy Ralph a little too aggressive there from Ralph yeah got it with the old hip check always good drawing a foul from talented players defensively absolutely so very good

good dribble there by Lauren McDonald. This ball's going to be inbounded to Conkel. Also Lauren McDonald on the top of the three-point line. Out to Mills. Mills dribbling around, trying to make something happen. Kicks it back out. To Pitcherzik for three. Peachesick passes to three.

Excellent shot. Great offense there for Billsdale. Move the ball around and get an open three-pointer in the corner. Kentucky Wesleyan's going to push the ball down. It's going to be rebounded by Sidney Mills as Emmy Ralph trying to take a tough shot. and everybody's crashing the boards for Hillsdale. Hillsdale is currently up 10 points, 14 to 4 with 30 seconds left in the first quarter.

Only 10 seconds separating the shot clock and the game clock. Petra Zick taking a couple dribbles, passing it down to Sidney Mills on the top of the key. Up to McCormick, McCormick dribbles in. That makes something happening. Three seconds left on the shot clock. Petrizeek takes a long three and it's going to rim out. 10 seconds left from the game clock is the ball is going to dribble around and fall back in the hands of Sydney Mills and back in the hands of Kentucky Wesleyan.

Kentucky Wesleyan is going to sneak behind and wide open player Jordan Barga. Bargey is going to make it, and the first quarter is going to expire. Sealsville is going to get the ball. Pass out to Lauren McDonald, who shoots a three early and makes it. Extending their lead to 11 points.

for Hillsdale. Wesleyan. There, great shot for McDonald. Yeah, Wesleyans pushing the ball down as they often do. Trying to get the fast basket, and they're going to miss, but number 10 is going to be fouled in number five, Sidney Mills. So now at the line, shooting two free throws is

Corina Conley. Yeah, caught Mills jump in there, got her on the pump fake. This is big for Westin. They haven't been able to get much going offensively, shooting only 21% from the field. and 0% from 3.0 for 7. 0 for 7 from 3. A lot of great defense though by Hillsdale, forcing typical shots as she's going to make both of her free throws.

Wesleyan continuing that man pressure, Hoseill. High pass for Lauren McDonnell, but she's able to corral it and get across half. Out to Kendall McCormick to Ashley Conkaw on the top of the key is Mills is going to take a three and make it. Another three. Yep, with pressure right in her face that time.

Very difficult shot. Kentucky Wesleyan with a ball down to Jordan Barge. Passing it in the corner. As far as number two, Jordan Gills. Gills, kind of make something happen. A very aggressive, great defense there by Spleyne, though, and the basket's miss and rebounded by Kendall McCormick. Absolutely.

Chargers pushing the ball again here. West. Biles. Kenne McCormick on the top of the keys. She's going to pass it down to Lorne McDonald. And McDonald is going to make the difficult. layup. Great shot there by McDonald. That was a crazy quick turn shot. That was Wesleyan. Emmy Ralph with three. She's going to miss and Laura McDonald was going to

grab the rebound. They're continuing pressure by Wesleyan. He's beaten. Ball up on the top key. Out to Kendall McCormick who pumps fakes. Takes it in, dribbles it back out, passes it out to Lauren McDonald. Out to Caitlin Splain with 13 seconds left on the shot clock. Hillslow currently out 22 to 8 with 8 minutes left in the second quarter. McCormick down to Mills. Ball's going to be passed around, and there's going to be a jump ball. Yeah, McCormick drove in, tried to get the sweet dish to Sydney Mills, but Panthers' defense was there.

Yeah, tip by Kentucky Wesleyan and just kind of caught up out in between everybody causing a jump ball. So getting back into that zone-press defense. I would call it about a three-quarter court press. Yeah. I think they're going to try to trap them in the corners eventually when they get to the corners. That's the goal of that kind of defense with back, falling into man defense in their own half. It's number 12. She's going to shoot a three-pointer.

She's going to miss. Pendle of a corner with the rebound. Here come the Chargers. Splane, taking it quick. Down to Sidney Mills, who has the advantage, but she's blocked. And then they got a call foul on her on the rebound. A little frustration there from Mills. I think she thought she was fouled in the shot attempt.

A little aggressive going for the rebound. Yeah, definitely a little bit of frustration there taking out on that rebound. I understand it. There was quite a lot of contact on her shot attempt. There was. And Mills is going to check out of the game because she does have two fouls early. And Savannah Smith is going to check into the game. Ducky Lesley, number four.

Bailey Poole killing the ball down the court out to Jordan Bargey Bargey passing it out Kentucky Wesley moving that ball around around the top of the key finally a dribble in by number two

Jordan Gills and she's going to be able to make the two-point basket as Wesleyan is continuing this short man pressure Splane taking it down the floor dribbling it in trying to take a jump shot and she passes it out to Savannah Smith instead

Smith with a dribble in and she's going to be called for a charge although I offensive foul offensive foul obviously and able to draw the charge Savannah Smith it didn't look like her feet were quite set but almost there and the refs refs gave her the benefit of the doubt I guess always a tough call yep is it a block is it a charge yeah things happens so quickly down near that key that you're never really never quite can be sure good pressure there from McCormick whatever Hillsdale's best defenders. Yeah. It's closing me up in the top of the key to Jordan Gills.

Gills trying to make some having dribble in with her left hand and makes the left hand in layup as Hillsdale is still leading game by 10. But. Wesleyan, getting away with a lot of contact in this press. Oh, not for long. There we go, and there's the foul on Jordan Gills. Right on time. She was definitely hand-fighting a little bit with Hathland Splane.

Ruff let it go for a second and then called it. This Canada McCormick is going to check out of the game and Lauren McDonald is going to check back in. There's six minutes and 35 seconds left in the second quarter of Hillsdale Women's Basketball. And Hillsdale is currently leading 22 to 12. 10 point lead. Staying in that double digits. It's trying to extend that lead right here with this possession. Ball in the top of the key, Panasik, the registered freshman.

Taking a couple dribbles in. Nice little dribble handoff to Kailen Splain as she is going to dribble in and draw the blocking foul. Splane once again. Reminds me a Tony Parker playing point guard. The smaller players, she dribbles in there and gets the contact, and she's going back to the free throw line. Yeah, she is. I already made two free throws.

I already made one free throw this game. Looking to keep that 75% up. She split her first. Let's see if she can make both of these. Yeah, Splane is usually a 77%. Ooh, this is the first one. Free throw shooter, and she does miss the first one. So, unfortunately.

Maybe a little bit of announcers jinxed there, but... I'll keep my mouth shut. Me too. She's going to make the second one, thankfully. Kentucky Wesleyan pushing the ball on the floor really quickly. He finds a wide open Jordan Gill's who makes the easy layup. Three straight layups for Gillis. Yeah.

Really? Kentucky Wesleyan just eating into that transition, sneaking a player back there and able to find somebody wide open. His plane is going to shoot the three. He's going to roll up, but offensive rebound by Hillsdale against Savannah Smith, kicking out to Panasic and then back out to Lauren McDonald. Hillsdale is out rebounding the Panthers 20 to 8 right now. Explane, going to shoot the deep three.

She's going to miss. Peter Zick, another offensive rebound. Warner McDonald finally going to make the three. I mean, if you give them enough chances, the ball is going to go in offensively eventually, right? That many offensive rebounds are bound to make it. There's going to be a foul on number 11. Sydney Panasik of Hillsdale

as Kenna McCormick and Ashley Conkler are going to check back into the game. Chargers up 26 to 14 with 5 minutes and 32 seconds left in the second quarter. Yep, as Wesleyan has a rebound on the bottom on the baseline. Shot 3-pointer by number 12 and she makes it.

Great shot right there by Jordan Bargey. as Hillsdale is going to get the ball in the out of bounds. Kentucky Wesleyan continuing out light man pressure. Laura McDonnell able to beat it pretty easily. Ball out to Peachesick on the top of the key. Kicking out to Kenna McCormick. Warner McDonald dribbling it in, taking a tough layup and she is unfortunately not able to make it.

Thought she had the foul there. Yeah, kind of falling down there. Emmy Ralph, highest point score for Kentucky Wesleyan, able to take the ball in transition and make a basket. it very easy. Great coast to coast play there by Ralph. She is very quick. Speed is something that Hillso is going to have to watch out for later in the game. Jackie Busley is sitting back into his zone defense now.

We're going to pass it out to Lauren McDonald with 10 seconds left in the shot clock. Conkel in the middle takes a short shot and unfortunately it rims out. That was a great setup too. She's able to slip the screen and get a good look. Just couldn't finish it. Yeah, it was a good job beating that zone. defense getting the ball right in the middle finding open space in between the zone as the resling is going to pass the ball and it's going to fall out of bounds possession for the chargers yeah another turnover they've cleaned it up here in the second quarter a little bit not as many turnovers as we saw in the

first but still always got to be careful against team like Kentucky Wesley because that turnover and running the game is yeah that's what they like to do Kentucky Wesley is shooting 10 percent from three points. Big story of the game. Hillsdale only has three bench points to Kentucky Wesley and six. But Hillsdale, shooting 50% from three throws. Three for six, something they want to do better at for sure. Maybe something they're talking about during this short media timeout. Yeah, I mean, honestly, I think the biggest thing right now is eight offensive

rebounds for the Chargers as opposed to zero for the Panthers. That's the reason they've been able to build a lead here. Yeah. Points off a rebound. It's got to be very high in the top. Chargers favor. I mean, like we said, if you get enough possessions, eventually shots are going to go in. Absolutely. Take as many threes as you want if you're just going to keep getting the rebound. That last possession for Hillsdale, they were able to get three offensive possessions, two offensive rebounds,

and Lauren McDonald on the third three-point shot of the teams was able to make it. I mean, that's just you're going to win a lot of games, shooting a lot of shots. So, a great game. Lorne McDonnell, the high point. score for this game so far with eight followed by Wesleyans Jordan Barga with seven, Bargey with seven and then Sydney Mills and Jordan Gills of Hillsdale and Kentucky Wesleyan each with six

points. 26 to 19 Hillsdale with 415 left. Hillsdale's going to be inbounding. Yeah, as Kentucky Wesleyan is going to continue that man pressure passing the ball and once again to Lauren McDonald. Personally, they've liked to beat the pressure most of the game. I don't with Petrusick.

He just like dribbles across half. He'll still set up the offense. Pass the ball into Kendall McCormick. Out to Ashley Conkill. Conkill is going to miss the shot and then get a foul on the rebound. Attempting to offensive rebound it, calling a push on Ashley Conklin. Again, it was a great play. Hallbine got the ball to Conklin's side.

Really slick move by Conkull to set up an open shot and just couldn't finish layup. Yeah, a little bit of frustration after. the missed layup as Kentucky wisely is actually going to be in the bonus. Yep, we're going to be shooting here. So I'm shooting a one-in-one right here. Shooting the shots are number 12. Jordan Bargey, who was fouled on the rebound, on the attempted rebound. She's going to shoot actually two shots.

The first one is good for her. Closing the lead from 26 to 20. He'll still lead. taking the second shot and roll around and also fall in for them having to lead down to five for Hillsdale. Hills was going to pass it into Annalise Petrusick to beat the press.

Petersick getting the ball out to McDonald on the top of the key. Laura McDonald with a shot over the middle and she makes it to extend Hillsdale's lead back to seven points once again. Big possession from Hillsdale there. They needed to score. On the other end

Corina Conley is going to make a quick basket for Kentucky Wesleyan to cut that lead down to five points once again. That quick offense for Kentucky Wesley not letting Hillsdale set up their defense perfectly has been really what has kept them in this game so far. They are so fast and aggressive on offense. They are. They move the ball constantly, but they don't sub a whole lot for a team that moves the ball so often.

As McCormick is going to dribble it up, take a little floater shot, and unfortunately it's going to fall out of bounds. But last touch by Kentucky Wesleyan, a great job there by Ashley Concoe to get the tip off Kentucky by Zand. Tollesdale inbounding from underneath their own basket as Caitlin Splean checks back into the game.

Yeah, possibly looking to get a three-pointer here from Splein trying to get her an open shot. We'll see, though. He's going to pass the ball off to Ashley Conkall on top of the three-point line. Back into the inbounder, Lauren McDonald. McDonald takes a three.

It's going to fall, but Ashley Conkall's going to grab the rebound and be foul. A great rebound there. another offensive rebound here for Hillsdale. They hit 10 to 0 in Hillsdale's favor on offensive rebounds. Yeah, they're just killing them inside there with Concoe, Mills, McDonald, McCormick. They're all just cleaning up on the boards right now. Yeah, Hillsdale's shot 30 shots.

And the Kentucky Wesleyans only shot 23. It's a big difference as Conkill makes her first free throw. And she's also going to make the second one. Extending the lead to 30 to 23. Hillsdale lead with 2 minutes and 50 seconds left in the second quarter. Kentucky Wesleyan getting the ball under to Emmy Ralph, and she's going to make the layup. Quick.

She's very quick. Emmy Ralph is, and she was able to get past Splane off the ball. Yeah, Hillsdale defense just lost her there. Kentucky Wesleyan able to find her wide open there. As Kenna McCorm was able to dribble through some contact and make a contested layup. Tough move from McCormick. Great finish at the basket.

Yeah, as Kentucky Wesleyan is going to get the ball to Cornynock Conley. You see how fast Hillsdale got back on defense there. Yeah, Hillsdale trying to make something, trying to make Kentucky Wesleyan slow it down as Emmy Ralph is going to dribble it in and make a great move. Nice little mini Euro step there by Emmy Ralph. It's just able to put up another two points. Getting the ball to Laura McDonnell on the top of the key,

letting Emmy Ralph feed up this. something that Hillsdale cannot allow to happen. You don't want the best point score to be, to start scoring a lot of points. As the plane is going to shoot a deep three and unfortunately going to fall out. A minute, 37 seconds left on the clock in the second quarter. 37, or 32 to 27, Hillsdale lead.

Hockey was in. With the ball, getting out to Jordan Bargey, bargy on the top of the key, passes down to Shailon McDonald. McDonald dribbling it in. She's going to get back. blocked by Danny Holland by but last touch by the Chargers

but don't know about that one yeah it's close there if you're not going to call a foul I do believe that it did the last touch Kentucky Wesleyan but that is not what the refs saw and maybe they have a better angle than we do I guess look to me like she stripped and then the ball

went off of uh yeah only eight seconds left in the play clock as the ball did not hit the rim on the shot two seconds left on the shape clock as you're going to shoot a fade away three but they're going to get the offense of rebound their first offense rebound of the game miss another shot get another offensive rebounds in Kentucky Wesleyan grabbing two offensive rebounds in one possession and resetting the shot clock right here ball up shaylin mcdonald three points and she's going to miss

hard foul inside there on number 12 barge yeah there's going to be an offensive foul on Kentucky lesliean well not an offensive i guess an off foul rebounding foul loose loose ball foul loose ball foul by Kentucky Wesley in there. Hillsdale player went down hard in the paint. Yeah, fouls in number 12. Jordan Barguer, like you said. 53 seconds left on the game clock. 29 seconds in the shot clock.

So 20 seconds separating the two. As McDonald is going to dribble it down a little bit. Passing it out to Savannah Smith, the freshman on the top of the three-point line. Out to Spley. Splean's going to shoot a three and it's going to rim out. But there's going to be a foul on number. on number two of Kentucky Wesleyan on the rebound.

Jordan Gills, our second, team fifth, and because it was a rebounding foul, Hillsdale is going to be shooting two shots of Savannah Smith, the freshman, with two shots, two free throw shots right here, the 37 seconds left in the second quarter. Just as we saw with the previous possession, these free throws are essentially second chance points because the Hillsdale was rebounding and got the foul.

The scoring opportunity here, free throw line. Yeah, she's going to miss the first free throw, but make the second one to extend the lead to 33 to 27 for Hillsdale. As there's 36 seconds left in the game clock and 30 seconds left in the shot clock. Thank you, Wesleyan, moving the ball down fast. Getting a short layup, a quick layup right there. Ball unbounded, though, by Hillsdale. Kaelin is there's 21 seconds left in the game clock and no shot clock anymore.

Splane, trying to take your time. Making sure that they get the last possession, they're just setting up an offense. He's out to McDonald. Eight seven, eight seconds left on the game clock. Up to McDonald. Up to Splean, Splean misses the three-friorner, rebounds, and it's going to be the end of the first quarter. As Hillsdale leads Kentucky Wiesland, 33 to 29.

Kentucky Visland, able to close the door a little bit on this gap, but Hillsdale maintains their lead through the second quarter. They're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7. Hello, welcome back to 101.1.7 FM Radio Free Hillsdale for Chargers, Women's Basketball, currently leading Kentucky Wesleyan 33 to 29 as we're about to get into the second half. But we're just here to talk a little bit about the first half game trend. So really, the big reason for Hillsdale that they have been winning has been the offensive rebounds.

10 offensive rebounds of Kentucky Wesleyans 3. and I believe all three of those might have been in one possession. So Hillsdale, second chance points, really helping them in something they're really going to need going into the second half. Not to mention, yeah, Kentucky Wesleyan with a horrible start in that first quarter. Only six points in the first quarter. I think they were shooting about 20% from the field.

Much better in the second. Put up 23 to Hillsdale's 19 in the second quarter. Three point line, been a little bit of a factor. The Chargers are five of 20, shooting 25. which isn't great, but it's better than Weston who's shooting one for 12 and is only 8% from the three-point line. I don't think that'll hold. I would look for Wesleyan to heat up a little bit from the three-point line here in the second half. Because they were getting good looks.

They had quite a few open looks. Although I would say it wasn't their regular three-point shooters. It was kind of the bigger men, like the forwards and the centers that were shooting those wide-open looks. But yes, the wide open looks, we're there, and they probably will be shooting better than 8% in the second half. So Hillsdale are going to have to maintain that steady offensive rebound lead, because that is really, really what's been helping them. Absolutely. And the important thing for Hillsdale is to get back in transition defense quick.

Because, you know, even after a made basket, Wesleyan wants to run. They want to get the ball in quick. They want to get down the floor. They have fast guards, especially Emmy Ralph number 21. She's been able to beat him a few times. Same with number two, Jordan Gillis. Both of them have gotten easy looks just by getting behind the defense because they got Hillsdale mapping. So hopefully Hillsdale will take note of that here in the second half and focus on getting back quickly on defense.

Yeah, at one point, Hillsdale led Kentucky Wesleyan by 14 points. That was the largest key to the game. And Kentucky Wesleyan able to cut it down all the way down to four at the end of that second quarter. Hillsdale has led for the entire game, actually. There's been no point where Kentucky Wesleyan is able to cut it down all the way. is lead. So it was led for 19 minutes and 39 seconds out of the 20 minute half. And Kentucky Wesleyan is led for zero because they were tied zero to the first 30 seconds. Yeah, but even when they had that 14-point lead, I feel like, you know, nobody felt like this game was over.

We know Wesleyan is a good team. This is an experienced team. You know, this is an NCAA playoff, you know, tournament type of team. So not surprised that they were able to close the gap here to four points at the half. Yeah, points off turnovers is we're going to get into the second half. Hillsdale passing ball on the Caitlin's playing. Points off turnovers, four for Kentucky Wesleyan, zero for Hillsdale. Hillsdale going to look into cause more turnovers in the second half. And Sidney Mills is going to shoot at the shot.

It was unfortunately going to rim out. And as Hillsdale tries to grab the rebound, the ball, unfortunately, rolls out of bounds. So the Kentucky Wesleyan pass in on the baseline. No press here from Hillsdale. We saw that quite a bit in the first half. Yeah, but the ball is disappeared somewhere under the bleachers. so they're going to have to get a new basketball they got the replacement ball to begin the second athlete

hopefully it's as good as the starting basketball no they found they found us back they found the original basketball they got it is they're gonna pass the ball on the number 20 Shaila Hooser Hoosier that's a great basketball name yeah it really is she was born to play this game who's taking the ball in shooting underhand layup gonna draw the foul hills does not like that foul call very much but Hoosier going to be shooting two free throws right here. Yeah, they let quite a bit of contact go in the first half.

Only a few that were egregious enough to warn a call, but maybe calling it a little bit closer here in the second. Yeah, this is the first free throw. Yeah, that first half there was only 13 total fouls. Eight on Kentucky Wesleyan, five on Hillsdale. She's going to make the second free throw as well in Kentucky Wesleyan continuing their pressure, although Hillslow doesn't. Thank you guys into that man, man, light man press, which Hillsloes had no trouble breaking as of yet.

Passed on the outside to Kendall McCormick, out to Sydney Splain. Turnover by Ashley Conkel, dribbled the ball in the middle. A lot of contact on that, steel. Wesleyan, very, very good in transition, very, very good in speed. Maybe Hillsdale need to slow this game down a little bit. If they are setting up the offense, 10 seconds left in the shot clock, because McDonald's going to take it to an airball. It's going to go out of bounds. In possession, Kentucky Wesleyan. Not the start Hillsdale was looking for. They missed a couple of easy baskets early here. That press, Kentucky Wesleyan finally able to get a hand on it,

but it's going to go out of bounds and is to stay with Hillsdale. The pressure has not done anything so far for Kentucky Wesleyan at all, but finally able to at least get a hand on the ball. I think if anything, it's sped up Hillsdale's offense, which Wesleyan wants that. The ball's going to go inbound to Kalynne. They're going to say she stepped out of bounds. There you go. Kentucky Wesleyan ball. Pressure finally did something. There is the turnover.

This is why Kentucky Wesleyan is 9.7 plus turnover differential. Ball inbound is Jordan Gillis. Gillis going to dribble in on Splane and make the layup. Gillis with a hard layup and they're going to call a foul on Caitlin Splain. Shooting foul, so I believe. Gillis is going to be shooting two free throws right now. Yeah, I think Hillsdale would just like to see a little bit of more consistency with these calls underneath the basket. Seems that sometimes there's a call, sometimes there's not. Yeah, it's been a very, very big difference between that first half. That was called kind of loosely.

It looks bad at first. Blaine's going to lose the ball, but Smith able to corral it and make the layup and then Wesley with a self-inflicted turnover. McDonald's shooting the floater. rebound Danny Holland by an offensive lane and a draw another foul. This is a very great series of events for Hillsdale.

I mean, just Splane missed the layups. She's probably, I think she believes she got blocked. There was a great effort by her to tip her own rebound towards Savannah Smith so that her own team could score and start off this role, this small little roll right here. Danny Hollenbein at the line shooting two. She's going to make the first one. And talking a little bit about the foul trouble. So for Kentucky Wesley number two, Jordan Gillis has three fouls.

Danny Hollenbein is going to make the second free throw. And for Hillsdale, number five, Sydney Mills is going to have three fouls. So they're the two players currently that are in a little bit of foul trouble in this third quarter. Especially tough for Hillsdale, losing one of our best players in Sidney Mills. That's the difference in the game right now, score-wise. Yeah, score-wise, definitely the difference in the game.

It's been the rebounding for Hillsdale. That's been their biggest advantage, 12 offensive rebounds to Kentucky Wesleyans. That's the ball's going to be in the hands of Annalise-Pitchell. It's about 37 light years from Earth, which means the light we see from it today left Arcturis 37 years ago. Interestingly, the light from Arcturis was used to switch on the opening lights at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. If you follow the arc of the handle of the Big Dipper across the sky, you'll land on this magnificent red giant.

But Hillsdale shot a three by Annalise-Petres-Zegin. able to keep their lead. Yeah, for Hillsdale's sake, let's hope they never get a lead. Yeah, all inbounded to Lauren McDonald, who passes it up to Kendall McCormick. McCormick, a little screen. Passed down to Sidney Panasik was able to spin around and make the spinning layup.

Great, strong move there by Panasonic. Get inside and get to the rim. Yeah. Now, Kentucky Wesleyans is this Hooser. has the ball passed out to number 14 Shaley McDonald's able to make the layup break and tested layup there by McDonald for Wesleyan. Hillsdale setting a lot more screens this quarter, already set three or four. I haven't seen really any of that from them in the first couple quarters. Ball up to Mills. Out to McDonald in the top of the key with only eight seconds left in the shot clock. Donald takes a little jumper and she misses. But Mills is going to grab the rebound up to Panasik on the top of the key, shooting for three and she's going to miss. But Kentucky Wesleyan is going to travel on the rebound.

Great pressure there applied by Annalise Petersick. And Kentucky Wesleyan's players are going to fall down. A little bit of a late call. I thought maybe they were going to call a foul there on Hillsdale. I was a little bit concerned the call was so late, but possibly just sometimes you drop the missile out of your mouth and you're not ready for it. I've been there before. I've reft a few games.

That happens. That's a real thing. That's not, we're not making this stuff up. Sidney Panasic with a ball up to Ashley Conkill on the top. Again, back out to Lauren McDonald. Oh, they counted the basket? They counted the basket. She gets a three-point code. She's able to extend the lead to 61 to 52 for Hillsdale. Ashley Conkill is going to sit down after that great play.

Chargers are fired up. Very exciting game here for Hillsdale. Finally, extending that lead back to nine. Big lead for Hillsdale. There's going to be a blocking foul on Hillsdale's end. Fowles against number two, Danny Hart. Now I'm buying. So shooting two free throws will be number 12, Jordan Bargey. So a little update, Emmy Ralph, or Kentucky Buzzlellan's usual high point

scorer leading the team with 15. And Jordan Bargey has 12. And Jordan Gillis has 10. Excuse me, Bargey was not shooting the two free throws. It's Karina Conley shooting the two free throws. She's able to make the first one. and the second one is up and also good that Hills was going to sub back in

and Elise Petrusick. The freshman has been great this game so far especially on that defensive end. It's been a balanced attack from Hillsdale. No one player dominating on offense. Yeah. Good contributions from everybody. Although Hillsdale has 61 points,

their highest point score is Lauren McDonald with only 13 and nobody else is in the double digits. Hillstill though, Danny Hollenbine with a little pass but it's picked off by Kentucky Wesleyan as they get into transition and make the layup as number 14. Shailamuzano gets the steel and the quick layup. Cutting this lead down to five points for Hillsdale. Need some more patience here for Hillsdale.

There's no need to rush this. Yes, and Kentucky Wesleyan is a very aggressive team. They are going to continue to try to get steals, so you've got to play this game slow. Be smart. Only 10 seconds left from the shot clock as Splean passes out to McDonald. And probably to pass it underneath to Mill. but it's intercepted by McDonald

again. Back-to-back turnovers by the Chargers, not what you want late in the game. Shailin McDonald, they're going to dribble move. And there's going to be a charge against McDonald. As Petrusick is able to draw the charge, Possession, Hillsdale, under the basket. Excellent play for Pechersick. Get her feet

set and get the offensive foul. Yeah, it's number 15. Candlemaek is going to check into the game for Hillsdale for Danny Holland Bines. and Hoosier for a number for Kentucky Buzzling is also going to check in. Splane in the quick transition. Draws the foul. Kentucky Wesleyan looking a little bit very confused about that foul. They did not understand that call. They're going to call a blocking foul on them. And Splain is going to be shooting two free throws here. I was about to say, Spain doesn't need to be that aggressive.

He'll still probably wants to run a little bit more clock here, but she's bailed out by the Wesleyan defense, and she'll be shooting too. Yeah. definitely a little bit early to say wasting clock but it's smart for Hill still just in general based on the pace of the game to be slowing the game down

because that's what's worked for them. As Spley is able to make the first free throw and I think that I'm not going to talk about what's going on in the game right now because she's and she's going to make the second free throw and we're not going to

jinx her. Everybody in the arena was quiet. I had to make sure not to I didn't know what to say anymore. I'm looking at her and I'm saying, well, hopefully she makes it. Well, when I say that, and then she misses. So she does make both free throws, though, they're able to keep out of that away from the announcer jinks. It may not be superstitious, but we are a little stitious.

To follow her shot, get the rebound, and the nice touch to put it back in. Hillsdale up 65 to 56. And gets a steal. Kenna McCormick, tipped the pass by Hoosier and able to grab it. The last minute and a half of the game, a slim lead, trying to make that possession, a two-possession lead, a three-possession lead. This is where you use that play that you've been waiting to use all game. And for Wesleyan, you know, the more time ticks off here, the more you've got to start thinking about using those fouls to extend this game

and hope that Hillsdale misses some free throws because they're already in the bonus. Yeah, Wesleyan probably knows who they want with the ball. I don't know exactly who that is, but somebody, free throw shooting, is they're going to high pressure. Hillsaw's going to make an errant pass, and it's going to roll out of bounds. It looks good. They just need to be able to choose some time off the clock. No mistakes here, right? No mistakes. Just play this clean. You're going to get to the free throw line. Yep. Make your shots.

Don't give this game away. You don't need to be the hero. You just need to play calm, safe basketball right here. Albuyan will inbound for the Chargers. Yeah, Kentucky Vice Lien, obviously pressing. I think they definitely want a cleaner exchange than that, getting the ball in late here. Yeah, possibly put some different players in, put all four guards in, see if you can keep this lead, or see if you can get the ball across half a little bit easier. over Kentucky Wesleyan. Kentucky Wesleyan, if they do inbound this ball, they're probably going to look to foul right here. Yeah. If you don't get a quick steal, you have to foul basically at this point in the game. Yeah, so very important moments right here as Hillsdale looks to win this game against a very, very good Kentucky Wesleyan team. A lot due to their offensive rebounding. Absolutely.

That's the thing that Hillsdale has done best this year. So I think leading this game offensive rebounding by at least 12 offensive rebounds. Yes, it's 19 to 7 in favor of Hillsdale. Those second chance points, really what's been for Hillsdale. And just overall out rebounding Wesleyan, 46 to 31. Yeah. It's been huge. It has been.

They're not giving up second chance points. They're getting second chance points. Yeah. Kentucky Wesleyan, done a good ball, done a good job on the turnovers, though. Very quick team. So they've moved really well in transition. That's been their game. And so in the last couple moments, Hillsdale makes sure not.

to give up any easy, quick transition points. Yeah. So play back, play it a little bit safe, get this ball inbound, and play safe basketball. Right? Play safe basketball. As the refs are... Like you were just saying, don't let the pressure of the moment get to. Just play calm.

You don't have to start dribbling immediately. Catch the inbound, catch it clean. As long as you do that, they're going to have to value you. Don't get sped up by their pressure on. defense. Kentucky Wesleyan coach currently talking to the ref asking some questions. They're pointing to the scoreboard. I'm not sure if they have an issue with the clock or perhaps the number of timeouts they have left. Possibly with that last play might have ended in a foul and not I don't really know exactly what they're asking. I don't know what the discussion is either,

but it's a bit of a hold up here. It also looks like it at least so far will be imbounding the ball from the sideline as the reps continue to talk it over a little bit. But it looks pretty confident that everybody on the floor, it looks like now everybody's moving around. Everybody's going back to the benches. Long hold up here as the coaches from Kentucky Wesleyan continue to talk to the reps. And now the reps are talking to the stats people of the scorekeepers table. trying to get things straightened out here

yeah I don't really know exactly what the conversation is about I don't know all the specific detailed rules about timeouts and where the ball goes afterwards in college basketball but it looks like that's what they're having a conversation about is where the ball is supposed to be placed

So hopefully Hils still able to keep their slim lead. Hilsel has not had the lead or been tied the entire game.

Hillsdale has been a little bit sloppy on these inbounds. We've had a number of turnovers now late in this game that kept the Panthers in it.
