The following is a special presentation of WRFH sports.
Crowd is roaring. It's a sold-out game here.
Takes the three.
Two shots to layup, bounces off the left side of the rim.
Offensive rebound.
Sidney Mills puts it back up and end.
There's that size advantage.
Easy layups.
Still charge your basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM starts now.
She's their starting center, and she averages 18 points a game.
Average a lot of offensive rebounds.
Pioneers dominate the offensive rebounding stat,
and as long as they can keep her under control,
not even stop her, but just keep her under control,
limit her to minimal offensive rebounds.
They're going to win this game pretty easily.
Malone likes to play fast.
They turn the ball over a lot, so an exciting game.
Anything you got, Christian?
The Chargers have a good player of their own and Lauren McDonald.
She's a senior this year.
She put up 20 points yesterday, sorry, Thursday,
and the Chargers' big win over Ohio, Dominican.
They had a comeback win against them to open up their conference play.
She averages 15.4 points a game.
So it's not quite 18, but it's still pretty good.
And if she has a strong game,
it can maybe neutralize Kauffman's effect on the Pioneers.
Yeah, she's the Chargers' superstar.
She's their starting point guard.
She'll play a lot of the game tonight.
So the person who will probably be defending Kaufman will be probably Savannah Smith, number 21.
They're six foot forward.
Sophomore this year, really turned it on this year, averaging the third most points for the charges at 11.1.
So three chargers in the double digits this year in averages, which is great to see in women's basketball.
But here we go.
We're getting ready for the tip off as Malone and the Chargers are going after.
So, and it looks, and a lot of contributions from the sophomores who were bench players last year.
Like, I think Annalise Patrissic is also, she was a bench player last year.
She's getting more regular playing time.
Thank you.
And we're going to the tip off.
It's tipped off to number four on the Pioneers.
That's Natalie Armstrong.
Natalie, thanks.
Natalie Armstrong gets it.
They're working into the, they're driving to the hoop.
That's Aaron Kaufman right there who had it.
Yeah, so you can see early from the Chargers that they want to double team
Kaufman whenever she gets the ball in the paint.
And it looks like Kaufman is just fouled.
No, she stepped out of bounds.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, so, so the.
The plan for the Chargers is as soon as Kaufman touches the ball, she's going to get double-teamed.
Yeah.
Caitlin's Splain with the ball going past mid-court.
Yeah, it's good to see Splane and McDonald on the court a lot together because they're both
primarily point guards and so they don't get to play a lot together whenever they do.
It's very, really exciting.
They've both been on this team.
This was their fourth year on the team for both of them.
So team chemistry is also a factor.
Splane with the ball.
she's driving she puts up a shot but it misses yeah just had to kind of put up a shot
shot clock was expiring not a bad look for for there being zero seconds left in the shot clock
that's an attempted three by natalie armstrong doesn't go in offensive rebound goes to the lone
now and another attempted three that one by um brooklyn troiner does not go in either
yeah an early offensive rebound there plain nope
Blaine misses the shot, and that's Kaufman with the ball.
Up, passes it down.
There's, that's Bryn Hunt with driving.
Oh, and the ball goes out of bounds, and the charges will get possession.
Yeah, so like we talked about before the game, a turnover already for the pioneers.
They turn it over almost 20 times a game, 18.6, which is just an incredible number.
Wow.
They usually do beat their opponents by an average of eight points, but turning it over 18 times of games.
It's just incredible.
That's not something you want to be doing.
As McDonald passes the ball to Smith, Smith misses a shot,
rebound goes to that looks like it's Brooklyn-Trener again.
gives the ball to Kaufman, misses.
That's Kaufman's fifth attempted three of the season in eight games.
Not really a shooter, more of a big man, more of a post player,
but I guess when she gets an open look.
And McDonald finally gets a layup.
That's the first score of the game, almost two and a half minutes in.
And the loan answers right back with the layup of their own.
So after being scoreless, now we have two to two game fairly quickly.
Yeah, Chargers scored there, and then Malone was able to break through quickly.
Charger's kind of still getting back on defense, caught him sleeping.
Sometimes you get excited about finally making a basket, and then, oh, is that a foul?
We got a jump ball.
Jump ball in the possession is going to stay with Hillsdale because Malone did win the tip.
off. Some substitutions into the game that looks like Abby Price of the Pioneers.
Yeah, only five seconds left on the shot clock for Hill, so they're going to need to go quick here.
Savannah Smith needs to put up a shot up. Oh, and shot clock runs out as Lauren McDonald loses
control of basketball and is not able to recover before the clock runs out. Yeah.
Just unfortunately, you need to get a, get up a quick shot there right off the inbound, almost just a catcher.
shoot there with only six seconds left on the baseline.
Yeah.
Driving to the hoop up and that is a missed three by Brooklyn Troiner.
Yeah, some good help defense by McDonald left her own girl wide open, but if she
wouldn't have helped, they would have gotten a wide open layup.
So better a wide open three than a wide open layup.
And Savannah Smith misses a three too.
Some attempted threes from the post players on both teams.
This is interesting to see that as Troyner tries to drive the basket.
And that's another attempted three by, as that Ali Miller?
Yeah, it was.
It does not go in.
Lauren McDonald tries a jumper.
Does not go in.
Very low-scoring games so far in this first quarter.
Yeah, both of these teams average about 70 points.
I mean, right now they're on pace for 16.
That would be crazy.
I mean, it's not going to hold, but...
Yeah, the thing about basketball is that it's a very streaky game.
You get hot, you get hot.
You know, you can score eight points in a row on four possessions
and then not score for two, five minutes.
And it looks like the ball goes out of bounds.
And that's the foul call against number 23,
Bryn Hunt of the pioneers.
Chargers will get the ball.
That's inbounded to number 24 on the Chargers.
Ellie Bruce, a freshman.
Extremely tall.
The Chargers tallest player.
And that's a jumper attempt by Kendall McCormick does not go in.
And that's Alian Miller passes it.
Driving to the hoop was Abby Price.
But I think.
There's going to be a blocking foul there.
Siddy Panasic.
And Annalise Pitcherzik is checking in for Lauren McDonald.
So Chargers get another, a bigger player in.
Maybe defense inbounded to Kylie Bruce.
Driving to the hoop puts up a layup does not go in, but offensive rebounds for the pioneers.
Oh, and a bad pass goes out of bounds.
I mean, yeah, just kind of throws them out of bounds.
I mean, there was a little bit of pressure, but not enough to just excuse that, just toss over their head.
I don't think they had to go to a short media timeout.
Listen to Radio for Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds out of time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and someone recently asked me for my opinion on the word skidaddle.
Well, he didn't actually ask. He said he didn't like the word, and I said I did, and one thing led to another,
and here I am making an episode about it.
Recently, I suggested using highly descriptive verbs and nouns rather than heaping up a bunch of adjectives.
For example, instead of saying the food was very good, describe the experience,
of enjoying that food, using strong words like savored, or, oh, here's a good one, scrumptious.
This can get taken a little far when you start using words most people don't understand,
such as crepuscular, for example.
I have no idea what that means, and something about the texture of the word makes me uncomfortable.
In my opinion, skid-addled doesn't fall into this category.
It's an interesting, somewhat unusual word that sounds like what it means and is commonly understood.
So, though it isn't frequently used, it conveys a lot of descriptive information.
That's your grammar minute.
Back to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
You're listening to Charter Women's Basketball,
and if you're just tuning in, we're in a two-to-two tie
with four minutes, 47 seconds left in the first quarter.
A very low-scoring game, a lot of shots, but a lot of missed shots.
Yeah, the interesting thing about women's basketball
is that the fouls reset every quarter.
So you're at one-to-one fouls,
but that doesn't really matter going into the second quarter at all.
Caitlin Splean passes.
and up.
That's another foul, I think.
Yeah, foul's going to be on number 11, Abby Price, of Malone.
So Hosell is going to keep the basketball,
and Shock Rock's going to reset to 20 seconds instead of 30.
Kendall McCormick going to inbound the ball.
Passes off to Splane, and Splane to Panasic.
Back to Panasic.
McCormick still.
Splane trying to get inside.
Does not.
And that's a pass to prosthesis.
She had to shoot it right before the clock went out.
They get the rebound.
And Splane puts up a three.
It does not go in.
And there's another foul on 11.
Yeah.
Defensive rebounding fouls.
The thing about offensive rebound is that they're just like extra possessions, you know?
You miss a shot and then you get to keep the ball.
So this is their third possession really in a row.
So number four, Natalie Armstrong, check again for the pioneers.
Splane gets it up and bad pass, but able to recover it.
A layup attempt from Ellie Bruce does not go in.
This game can't stay this low scoring the whole time.
Eventually somebody will get hot.
They'll start making shots.
And that's a layup from Kaufman.
So it's 4 to 2 Malone.
Yeah, he'll also done a great job on defense so far, keeping Kaufman quiet.
That's your first basket of the day.
And overall, doing a great job on defense.
Malone only has four points still.
As, oh.
Well, McCormick drove to the basket, and she was fouled.
That's a foul on Natalie Armstrong of the.
pioneers. Brin Hunt checking in to the game for Kylie Bruce. Got a couple of free throws for McCormick.
Yeah, so McCormick has a chance to tie up this very low-scoring game. She'll miss the first one.
Yeah, I mean, free throw is really important. Chargers are our good free throw shooting team, but
free throw is very important in an extremely low-scoring game. She'll get the second one, so it's four to three Malone.
You were just talking about free throws.
The difference of a lot of these games have been free throws.
The Chargers have been play their opponents really well,
but sometimes when they get into foul trouble,
the difference of the game will just be all the extra free throws the opponents get to make.
Malone with the ball.
Passes it up.
Bounds on Malone.
A bad pass.
I don't know who she was passing it to.
They're trying to force the ball into Kaufman,
but once again, she's getting double-teamed.
I mean, the backside help is very focused on Kaufman, knowing that she's their best player.
Especially since the second best scorer on the Pioneers scores fewer points than the Chargers' third best.
So it's Kaufman leading the team, so it would make sense that you'd want to stop her.
McDonald, outside the arc, driving in, passes off.
and another missed shot from Ellie Bruce is and that is of eight three from that's Brooklyn Shrinner
so seven to three pioneers that's only the third basket made by Malone
and it's the first three-pointer of the game Malone here switching to a zone defense
trying to guard Hillsdale and what looks like a two-three defense
and that's an out of bounds
Savannah Smith checking into the game for Ellie Bruce
and the Chargers get inbound the ball.
McDonald to Panassick
and to McDonald again
driving in
she puts up a jumper right before the shot clock runs out
no good but a rebound
from Splane
that one is good so it's 7 to 4
five about a minute and a half left missed shot from malone mcdonald going down the court again
and she's been fouled yeah that follows on it's on foul on macdonald to follow on coughman
and uh that's the person that you want to drive after because if you get her in a follow trouble
you it looks it looks good for you defensively because getting her out of the game as she checks
out of the game right here is key in keeping the keep him alone quiet and the first free throw is good
so it's seven to six McDonald with the chance to tie the game with a minute and a half in the first
quarter second shot is good so seven to seven tie malone moving down the court that is natalie
armstrong passes off to grin hunt
to get into the paint.
And jumper kind of rolls around the rim, but it does go in.
Nine to seven.
Kind of an ugly shot there, but, I mean, it rolls around the room about three times and then falls in.
All that matters whether it's good or not.
So no pictures in the box score.
That's a pass to Savannah Smith, who puts up a layup.
So the Chargers Post player there.
tying the game.
Yeah, it was a great
pass from Annalise Petruszic.
I mean, just kind of tossing it over,
lost it in there, finding her
breadbasket
for Savannah Smith.
And that's a missed shot from
that's, what, Natalie Armstrong again.
Yeah, so as the clock's down to
19 seconds,
Malone looking to get the final shot here
of the first quarter.
Trying to dribble out,
bit. Armstrong trying to get in, but
Charter's not letting her move.
But a pass into the paint
does not go in.
Offensive rebound.
And they do not
convert. So the first
quarter will end with a 9-9
tie. We're going to
go to a quick break. You are listening
to Charger Women's Basketball on
Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7
FM. We'll be right back after
this.
Fox on set.
An effective ban on TikTok is rapidly approaching, but a lifeline could come from one of its former foes, President-elect Trump.
In Trump's first term, he signed an executive order calling TikTok a national emergency.
But in recent months, he is warm to it, telling Joe Rogan, his TikTok account helped him connect with young people and said over the summer he plans to save the app.
It's set to be deplatformed the day before he is sworn in.
That is if Chinese parent company ByteDance does not sell.
It's a result of a bipartisan law signed by President Biden in April.
Trump's pick for national security advisor, Congressman Michael Waltz, has long spoken out against TikTok's Chinese government control.
I've called for a full-on ban. We can do it. By the way, the largest democracy in the world, the government of India, realizes the danger. It's done it. It is long overdue. We should not allow our greatest adversary to access 150 million Americans in their data.
With Fox on Tech, Alexander Ahoff, Fox News.
Charger women's basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
If you're just tuning in, we're right about to start the second quarter.
It's a nine-to-nine tie right here between the Chargers and the pioneers of Malone University.
Not very good shooting in the first quarter.
The Malone put up 26.7 percent and the Chargers 21.4.
A lot of shots, but not many went in.
Yeah, and it's not for a lack of.
good looks because the Chargers is just sometimes the ball doesn't fall in.
Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you don't.
As Malone is with the ball, passes inside.
That's a shot right around the free throw line that does not go in from Brooklyn Triner.
McDonald quickly takes it down the court.
That's an attempted shot from Panasic.
no good and malone lift the ball again triner passes to to miller miller's right there puts up a layup it's good
11 to nine malone mcdonald to panacek back to macdonald she puts up a jumper and that one is also good
yeah malone's starting to press just a little bit here not a heavy pressure not putting everybody up there but
Just putting somebody on McDonald
making it hard to inbound that ball.
It's got to be really careful there.
That's Miller.
Has the ball just inside the arc.
Passes back to Hunt,
to Triner, to Hunt,
and back to Triner again.
They're about 10 seconds left on the shot clock.
It's going to be to travel on the loan.
It took one too many steps.
It was number 23.
We're in Hunt.
So, up.
Looks like we've got, yeah, we've got Sarah Al-
Al-Qa Venetius.
That's how we've been pronouncing it at least.
Inhani Ann Hounser just prompts to Alika Vanicious.
We're not really sure.
It's a very long name and even the pronunciation guide does not help.
She's checking into the game for Sydney Panasic.
Savannah Smith puts up a jumper.
That one bounces around.
It's in.
so it's 13 to 11 Hillsdale.
And just like that, the baskets are starting to fall for Hillsdale and even for Malone a little bit.
We've already got more points this far into the game this quarter as we were in the first.
And the first quarter at this point, we were to zero zero.
That is Brooklyn Shrenner who tied the game, 13 to 13 now.
And that's McDonald to Smith and another layup.
It looked exactly like that play about three months.
minutes ago where just tosses over the defense and puts it in the breadbasket, Savannah Smith,
with an easy layout.
That looks like the game plan might be starting to click a little bit for Hillsdale.
Like the post players and the guards working well together.
That's a missed shot from Alia Miller on the pioneers.
Chargers get the rebound.
They kind of mess up the fast break, though, and the pioneers get the ball back.
I don't know what happened.
Maybe trying to rush the way up a little bit.
Unattempted three from Hans does not go in.
We're going to have an official timeout because the shot clock did not start.
So official is trying to figure out the shot clock,
changing the amount of seconds on there,
and then we're going to get back to the action.
But they will allow the subs to check in as Ellie Bruce does check in for the Chargers.
Three players checking in for the Pioneers.
Kylie Bruce of the Pioneers checking,
on inbounding.
Oh, and they turned the ball over.
Bad pass.
And Sidney Mills wide open for a three,
but does not go in.
And that was Kendall McCormick with the rebounder
tried to put up a layup there.
She was fouled.
And Kaufman charged with another foul.
Yes, they're going to get her out of the game in this second quarter.
You know, not in foul trouble yet,
only has two fouls.
but having two fouls this early in the second quarter is a little bit dangerous.
You don't want to be risking missing your best player when the game is on the line late.
As McCormick drains the first free throw, make it 16 to 13.
The second one misses, so the pioneers get the ball, moving it down the court.
That is Troiner again with driving.
Passes.
That's the three attempt misses from Kylie Horn, and the ball goes out of bounds.
And they're going to call a foul on Alec of Inacious.
She was just trying to get the ball, but the other girl made an attempt to go around her
and kind of gave her a little bit of a hip check and falls out of bounds, and they give her a foul.
Pioneers inbounding.
Try to put up a shot.
They get the offensive rebound.
Another attempt at three, no good.
That is McCormick with the rebound.
McDonald's going down the court.
Passes Alacanesius.
McDonald, behind the three line.
Oh, tries to pass to Ellie Bruce,
but the defender on Malone, that is Katie Kaufman.
She was right there, so deflects the ball out of bounds.
Chargers still get the ball back.
Another attempt to pass to Bruce,
she gets it misses the layup and malone will get the rebound this time driving and that is a layup for
anna cruppa and it's a 16 to 15 game right now with five minutes left in the second quarter
we got ellie bruce macdonald she's right under the basket kind of lost control of the ball there
Yeah, we're going to get a jump ball here, though,
and possession is going to go to the pioneers.
As we are under five minutes, and that's a stop at the clock,
so we're going to go to short media timeout.

Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale,
101.7 FM.
You're listening to Charger Women's Basketball.
If you're just tuning in with us,
the Chargers are leading 16 to 15
with four minutes, 50 seconds left in the second quarter.
A fairly slow offensive
start for both teams. Both teams have picked it up a little bit in the second quarter.
We're going to have Lauren McDonald inbounding the ball. It's Panasic.
And they're going to call her for a charging foul. She put the elbow into the girl and got the
full extension of the arm. So I'm going to call a charging foul on Panassi to end up with Malone.
So that's Kylie Bruce, inbounding the ball for the pioneers to Kylie Horn.
That's a layup from.
Anacrupa and it's 1716 pioneers now.
Yeah, interesting thing tonight.
Tonight is Christmas theme night, so not a lot of students here.
Week before finals, Saturday.
A lot of people are either home or at Hillsdale, probably studying.
Yeah, sleeping in from all the papers they had to write yesterday.
Yeah, but you've got a Christmas theme night.
Got some ugly sweaters out there, got some Christmas hats.
That's another attempt at 3.
That one is in.
That's Troy and her.
she gets the three.
It's 2016.
Yeah, he'll just needs to slow this game down real quick.
Take their best set play and get a basket.
That's your best set place.
Set a couple screens.
Get your best player.
Have a good look.
NASIC drives, but passes off to Bruce, who puts it up.
So it's 20 to 18.
She's going to get the end one foul that.
Both teams have matched.
their first quarter performances.
We've still got over three minutes left here.
So Bruce is going to be shooting that one extra free throw
to make it a three-point play.
Make it a one-point game.
Like you said, free throws have generally been pretty good for the Chargers.
But that one misses, there's the announcer jinks right there.
That's why you always wait to say it until after.
Exactly.
Natalie Armstrong passes off to Troiner.
Chargers doing a good job of keeping them outside.
Five seconds of the shot clock.
A lot going low.
Missed three.
Couldn't really keep the rebound and Splane's driving in for a layup.
That was a nice shot there.
It was kind of open, but not really.
The defender was right there.
She kind of put up a hook shot there.
Yeah, and I mean, that play all started with the rebound from Annalise Peaches.
It was dived on the ground.
dove on the ground, excuse me, and able to get a rebound and then pass it out.
2020 and Ellie Bruce will be called for a foul.
Number three, Elia Miller will be shooting some free throws and Savannah Smith in the game for Bruce.
First free throw is good.
The second free throw is also good.
So it's 22 to 20 for the pioneers with two minutes, 39 seconds.
left in the second quarter.
Yeah, been an exciting game. I don't think either team has had more than a four-point lead all day.
It's true. It's been a very close game.
The biggest lead maybe was when the charges were up 20 to 16.
Pioneers maybe have been up by three at one point, but a turnover when McDonald has.
The ball drives, gets kind of caught up by the defenders, though.
And we've got Natalie Armstrong with the ball.
on the Malone's side of the court.
Yeah.
I mean, a little bit of a chaotic group of basketball there.
Malone trying to slow it down now.
Did you good look instead of just throwing the ball out back and forth again.
And Hempted layup from Miller is not good.
Savannah Smith is, I think, is the one with the rebound.
Smith has the ball from McDonald, passes to Splane.
And Splane puts up a jumper.
And we're tied again, 22 to 22.
That was a great offball move by Splane, getting open in the paint,
and then just finishes the clip with the short jumper.
Splane is one of the team's stronger shooters,
so it's good to see her having a good game so far.
And she gets a rebound, or at least a pass off a rebound.
Gives it to Smith.
McDonald tries to put up a shot, but that's blocked,
but I think that's Miller again, blocked it.
Yeah, and a little update.
from you from college football.
Boise State won yesterday, 21-7,
so they're probably going to make the college football playoffs.
But right now, Arizona State beating Iowa State 24 to 10.
So if they win that game,
they will probably get the automatic bid
and get the 12-seat in the college football playoffs.
McDonald's sinks the free throw.
Chargers are in the lead again in this back-and-forth game.
And the second one misses.
Yeah, so Hillsdale currently up one.
point 23 to 24 with one minute left to go in the second quarter.
That is Miller with the ball and that charging towards the net was horn.
There will be another foul called.
Yeah, they're going to call a foul there on Savannah Smith.
A little push in the back.
Girl kind of sold it.
Made a little bit of an extra fall there for sure, but rest thought it was enough to give her the foul.
And I don't know what happened on it in Ben,
but is a turnover and McDonald puts up a layup and it looks like she's going to get an end one.
So a big turn of events there.
Yeah, I mean, there was just nobody open and you can only hold the ball in in-bounds for five seconds.
So she just kind of tossed it up right to Al-Covinesius, Al-Covnichus to Lorne McDonald.
And Lorne McDonnell drives all the way down, finishes the lay-up and gets the N-1.
And she'll convert her end-one.
So it's 20.
22, 39 seconds left.
Yeah, I think this is the largest lead for the charges of the day.
Their offense has definitely gotten better this quarter.
Eight seconds separate the game clock and the plate and the shot clock, excuse me.
Probably got time for one possession each or something.
Yeah, the lone waiting, trying to give Hillsdale as little time as possible left in that game clock to score.
trying to drive and that's an open three but it does not go in from alice geyser
yeah we got a jump ball there on the rebound Malone gonna keep it so 8.9 seconds left here
for Malone to put up a basket probably gonna try to put up a shot it doesn't make sense to
hold on to the ball at this point driving in is that's Miller again oh and the clock runs out
So we're going to go into halftime with the Chargers leading the pioneers, 26 to 22.
We'll be back after halftime.
You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM, Charger Women's Basketball.
Charger Women's Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
If you're just tuning in with us, we are about to come out of halftime.
The Chargers have a lead of 2622 over the Malone Pioneers.
It was a very slow start to the game offensively.
It was like three minutes before the first points of the game.
And then now the second quarter that both teams' offense came up pretty hot.
One story is Brooklyn Troyer of the Bologne Pioneers already has a double-double
with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
A lot of missed shots going up early in the game.
So a lot of rebound opportunities.
And see, sometimes that happens because Hillsdale is so worried about
their best player that they let other players get rebounds.
So Kaufman, their great rebounder and their great point score is not having a great game
because Hils still has been focused on her.
And obviously, even though Brooklyn-Troiner is doing well, they probably should keep focusing
on Coughman because they do have the lead.
And Troiner only has 10 points, which it is quite a bit in women's basketball.
but I mean,
Coffman would be dominating.
So I think the strategy they have right now,
the strategy that's had especially defensively
in that first half,
has been working out really well.
I don't think they should really change anything defensively.
Now offensively,
I'd like to see a little bit more of what they did once or twice
where they had just kind of tossed it down.
Players are playing over top of the center.
So kind of just tossed it over their head,
try to loft it in there and get easy layups.
And maybe a couple more kids.
kickouts once they do get a couple dribble drives.
Malone's been leaving some players open.
Currently, I'm snacking, having some lunch.
Great lunch of a uncrustable and some Pringles.
Sounds good.
It is good. It's really good.
We're going to start the second half, so I'm going to have to...
Just about to start here.
Finish my lunch later.
One more thing on Troyer.
She is the number two average scorer on the Pioneers,
so it makes sense that...
If Kaufman is held off, she would kind of ascend to the leadership of the team for a game.
Smith has the ball.
She puts up a miss shot, goes out of bounds.
So it'll be inbounded by Bryn Hunt, trying to find an opening.
And that is a good layup from Natalie Armstrong.
So 2624.
Like you said, neither team has held a lead of more than four this game.
It's been close.
Yeah, and he'll still able to beat the press there.
Get the ball down to Savannah Smith.
The ball does not fall, though.
And they get the offensive rebound.
Caitlin Splain puts up a three.
It's no good.
And it looks like Troyer will get the rebound.
And that's a foul on Savannah Smith.
So now it'll be inbounded again, Hunt to Armstrong.
Yeah, it's always unfortunate at getting an offensive foul,
because, I mean, you only get five fouls a game.
And if anybody plays basketball like me in high school,
I fouled out pretty much every game.
That three is good for Malone,
and they're going to take the lead by one point.
But wasting a foul on offense when you kind of need those on defense.
Yeah, true, especially in the late game when there's,
In a close game like this, there's probably going to be quite a bit of fouling.
McDonald manages a layup there in traffic.
I mean, that's just some great ball movement by Hillsdale.
Alone, kind of half-court pressing, trying to get him trapped in the corners,
and Hills will able to pass it all the way down the line,
basically not taking any dribbles and getting a pretty easy layup out of it.
Looks like, is that Troyer who attempted a three does not go in,
and that's McCormick with ball to Splane to McDonnell,
Smith shoots of three, offensive rebound for the Chargers.
McCormick will put up a jump shot, 30 to 27.
Yeah, McCormick, Hillstall's best defender,
and that's what everybody will tell you.
She's not, you know, as much of a scoring threat,
but clearly she still can score when she needs to.
too. And that is out of bounds. It looks like it will be in the Pioneer's favor. It is the Pioneer's favor.
A couple players checking into the game. And referee's discussing something.
Somebody's number or somebody's equipment. And Lauren McDonald come to the sideline.
Is she checking out of the game for an hour? I don't know.
Yeah, she is.
Oh, wait, yeah.
Yeah, so she used to check out of the game.
They're going to put Annalise Petrusick into the game.
Don't really know what happened there.
Lauren McDonald's currently standing behind the bench.
Could have been a miscommunication.
No, they're seem to dry something off on her jersey,
so maybe she's got some blood on her jersey or something.
A lot of times that's why players have to check out of the game.
Can't have blood on them.
And we're going to have a foul on the screen there by Kaufman.
And so that's Kaufman's third foul here in the third quarter.
And on offense, too.
Yeah, an offensive foul.
Like we said, can't waste fouls on offense.
It's unfortunate for him alone because that three by Abby Price would have been good.
And McCormick with the ball into Petrissig.
Petrissick puts up a three.
Does not go in.
And that will be a fast break lay up there for Triswick.
Troyer.
Yeah, just kind of unfortunate, Alka Venetius, didn't have a handle on the ball,
tried to tip it up, took it up right to him alone.
Petrus, they try to put up another three.
Does not go?
Oh, and it looks like Savannah Smith's been called for an offensive.
They're going to draw a charging foul.
I don't know about that one.
I mean, she literally just fell over.
She didn't really hit her.
That's a weak foul call, if you asked me.
Yeah, that one, it's more like she changed direction where the
defender wasn't expecting it, so it was like an ankle breaker sort of situation. Either way,
the pioneers have the ball. Troier has it, passes off. Charging in is Krupa. Back to Troyer.
Four seconds in the shot clock. And the shot clock runs out, so the charges will get the ball back.
Yeah, great block there by Kenna McCormick. Only three seconds left on the shot clock. New she had to get a shot up.
Usually you don't want to jump in those situations running out,
but when you have to get a shot up, you can jump
because that person doesn't have the ability to pump fake.
To Caitlin, Ketan, to McCormick, driving, shot is blocked.
And that will be a foul call on Abby Price of the pioneers.
I drawn a foul on the lower body, hip bump there by price.
That's her third foul, so two pioneers with three fouls already.
Quite a few foul calls so far in this second half.
McCormick will get the first free throw, 32 to 29,
and the second one does not go in.
It kind of rolls around and doesn't go in this time.
Price has it, and that is a three by Krupa.
So it's 32-32.
That is a bad pass from, I think that was.
McCormick. And another three attempt was by, sorry, that was by Horn, who made the shot.
Yeah, we're going to get a 30-second timeout by Hillsdale. As you're listening to Radio for Hillsdale
1-on-1.7 FM, we're going to take a short break.
In the B, 4-980s, 4.00% of 40% percent.
Who wants a free-year-to-old slider?
When the Hillsdale women's basketball teams score 65 points or more, age wins out.
Yeah, so just a great game here so far by Hillsdale overall.
But now you're down four points because of back-to-back threes.
A turnover on the press break, you have to break the press.
We talked about that earlier.
Malone was putting a little bit of pressure.
Finally got a steal, and they got a steal in a big moment to turn the tide.
Getting a four-point lead, which is, once again, maybe their biggest of the game.
it is their biggest lead of the game both teams have had four point leads a few times but they've
never led by more than that so as we're waiting to come back from the time out it's just interesting
to see the dynamics of the game with no team has really been able to take control it's looked like
the chargers have been getting more of a grasp on the game but then with those six consecutive points
from Malone it's just tough
and looks like
Hillsdale is going to be inbounding the ball
that is Panasic
Yeah now Malone after getting that seal on a full
press
Hillsdale able to break it pretty easily
And McDonald has the ball
Around Half Court
To Splane to Panassick
Petrusig back to Panassic
Which is passing the ball
Splane tries to drive in
And that is Ellie Bruce
does not get a shot but it looks like she's been fouled
that's against number 14
of the pioneers
so she will get two free throws
yeah don't leave us because after this game
we'll be covering the men's basketball game
she's going to miss the first free throw
men's basketball game here on radio free hillsdale
one and one point seven of them is they also take on malone
it's the conference double headers
and the second free throw is also
no good.
So Hillsdale, usually a great free throw shooting team, but we kind of struggle today from the
Cherry Strike.
A few missed opportunities there, and that's out of bounds, and it looks like, I don't know
who it's against.
It's against the Chargers.
So pioneers will be, oh, sorry.
We're going to be going to a short media timeout, I believe.
Yep.
As the clock has past five minutes, and there's a stop.
time. So we're going to go to a short media timeout.
Scores currently 35 to 31.
Malone is leading Hillsdale,
women's basketball, and we'll be back.
I still listen to Radio Free Hillsdale,

Welcome to the Grammar Minute,
where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm here to tell you that brand names are capitalized.
This probably sounds obvious.
Of course, you're going to capitalize Purell or Windex.
But what about less obvious brand names?
that have also become popular words like weed eater, hydroflask, Hoover, and so on.
In formal published writing, these words, even though commonly used, still need to be capitalized.
There's some wiggle room with this. Some words are just so commonly used and so rarely associated
with brands that it just looks really weird to capitalize them. It would probably seem strange
if jacuzzi or Velcro or trampoline were randomly capitalized in the middle of a sentence,
especially since most people don't know these are brands.
You can be flexible with these words,
but generally it's best to follow the rule, capitalize, brand names.
That's your Grammar Minute.

If you're just tuning in with us,
we have four minutes, 45 seconds left in the third quarter.
The pioneers lead the chargers 35 to 31,
as they are inbounding the ball right now.
And they get a, is that a foul?
You're going to get a charging foul.
So Lauren McDonald able to draw the charging foul.
The foul is on number 14 of Malone and the crowd.
Very excited about that one.
Several offensive fouls this game on both teams.
Yeah, maybe the most offensive fouls ever seen in a basketball game.
Probably.
McDonald has the ball.
Panasic passes it inside that's a beautiful team work there that's Petrissik who gets the layup I think on an assist from Ellie Bruce yeah no dribbles taken there by Hillsdale just some great ball movement and some great offball movement that one was good and we've got an attempted three by that was Hunt of the pioneers that's not good
Plain passes it inside to Bruce and the layup is good and the score is tied again.
So we got a 35, 35 ball game here in Dodd-Tibbitts Potter Arena.
Crowd getting into it a little bit.
Well, a couple more people showed up finally waking up on their Saturday morning.
That is a three-point shot from Kylie Bruce of the Pioneers.
and there's going to be a timeout, so we're going to be going to a short break.
You were listening to Charger Women's Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.

If you're just joining us, the Malone pioneers lead the charges 3835.
Chargers are inbounding the ball right now.
Caitlin Splain trying to get past half court.
McDonald's lift the ball, passes it inside.
Not a lot of room, but they get in the ball.
side and Ellie Bruce puts up the layup.
It was a great job by Petrusick knowing she wasn't going to get the shot up.
And a great cut by Ellie Bruce, right time, right place, right time.
Good teamwork similar to that last layup between the two.
I think it was reversed with who got the assist in the score the last time.
But just really good teamwork from the Chargers.
So, oh, knocks over Petrusik puts up a shot.
And that's 40 to 37.
now. Splane moving inside.
She gets a layup. She saw that there weren't that many defenders there in the paint.
So she just charged in and put one up.
Yeah, that's the thing about Malone's press is that once it is broken, if you go quick enough,
you're going to get an easy layup off of that.
Malone turns the ball over.
Petrissick gets it to McDonald.
Oh, I thought that was in for a second, but Nile Bruce just misses a layup.
We've got, that is Anacrupa, he's trying to get inside.
Into the paint, looks like there's a foul call.
It's going to be shooting two here.
I'm going to loan up one point, going to have two free throws here.
Trying to separate their lead.
Hey, at least a basket.
A little bit of foul trouble for both teams this game.
So Brin Hunt will be getting two free throws.
First one is good.
Extends the pioneer lead by a little bit.
The second shot is also good.
So we're 42 to 39.
One minute 40 seconds left in the third quarter.
Caitlin's plane has the ball to McDonald.
Looks like a foul call on.
Malone 24, that's Anacrupa.
She's shooting.
McDonald, no.
We'll get a couple of free throws from McDonald.
Yeah, so women's basketball, once you get to five fouls in a quarter,
going to be shooting two free throws.
There is no single bonus.
It's all double bonus.
So McDonald's going to get two free throws.
She gets the first one to get one point closer.
It puts up the second.
Second one is also good.
4241 pioneers one minute 26 seconds left that is number 22 Kylie Horn passes it off
that is Kaufman there's Kaufman their best player been been pretty quiet most of the game
those are doing great job of defending her but you know players like that they're going to get
baskets here and there you got to live with that one yeah it's just I mean if you're scoring 18 points
a game you're not going to keep them quiet the whole time the goal maybe is to shut them down for a
quarter or something as we have the shot clock running out but there's turnover and that was
that looks like it was Troyer with another basket was so 4641 the biggest lead either team has had this
game yeah he'll still really got to get a basket here and the half game clock about the third quarter
game clock about eight seconds behind the shot clock so we've got oh macdonald does not get a shot
kuffman has the ball moving down the court seven seconds left and Troyer puts up a three just kind of
out of desperation it's no good so the third quarter will end with the pioneers of
alone leading Chargers 4641. We're going to go to a quick break. You're listening to Charger Women's
Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. We'll be right back after this. Welcome to the

Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
If you're just tuning in with us right now, the Malone pioneers lead the Chargers, 46 to 41.
We're going into the fourth quarter.
Very interesting game, both offensively and defensively so far.
Yeah, I mean, back and forth.
fourth back and forth. This might be the largest lead of the game, just five points.
Actually, I think the largest lead for Malone might have been seven, but I mean, it's been so close the entire game.
And you just can't let them pull away here early.
Got to close it down and play for those last couple of minutes.
And it looks like Malone is going to get the ball to start.
They pass it off to Abby Price.
going inside and Kaufman is in the game now so they're going to need their best player for the final quarter of the game
she does have three fouls so there's somebody else in their team I'm not really sure her but
and as the shot clock winds down to four seconds they're going to get a foul call against laura macdonald
lord macdonald not very happy with that call no not at all so it'll be
the, what, Bryn Hunt, um,
inbounding the ball.
Also playing some excellent defense here, not allowing any real penetration.
And they'll get a block shot, rebound.
We're in McDonald's with the ball to Mills.
McDonald, shot clock down to 10 seconds.
McCormick puts up a layup does not go in,
rebounded by Malone.
And then back to the chargers with the ball.
It's steeled by Kendall McCormickday.
They're Splane.
McDonald has the ball right now trying to get in.
There's Savannah Smith.
She puts up a layup, and I think she's going to get an end one.
Yes, she is.
Savannah Smith has a chance to cut the lead down to two.
This is a big opportunity for the Chargers
to really start making
to come back. It's not much if it's five points, but still.
Scoring has been low this entire game.
It's just a great basket right there. I mean, a great move.
I'm able to draw the foul into it, put your shoulder down a little bit, but not too much
to get the offensive foul.
Free throw is good. So 46 to 44 for Malone.
Still anybody's game is Miller to Kaufman.
And Kaufman puts up another shot.
So she's starting to play like the player that she seems to be on the score sheet.
Yeah, he was double teaming her earlier in the first half.
Got to get back to that a little bit.
If you have a scorer like that, if you shut her down even for one quarter even,
it gives you a really good chance.
Pioneers will get the ball back.
4844.
Got seven minutes and 45 seconds left.
Kaufman hands the ball off
to Kylie Horn
who puts up a shot is 51-44 now
so seven-point lead now
a steal by Kaufman there
like you said she's really turning on in this fourth quarter
alone now up seven points
their biggest lead of the game
trying to charge in there's this horn
and Armstrong
I think there's a foul call
against McCormick.
So you've got Ellie Bruce checking into the game for Savannah Smith.
And Kaufman's going to be shooting two free throws here.
It's not exactly the spot that you want to be in.
But then again, if there's a chance that you hold her to one point or something,
if she misses a free throw, then a score like that, you might take it.
And Kaufman knocks down the first, but misses the second.
Like that.
So they may be willing to take the trade of one.
point rather than getting two or three another charger turnover gets the ball back to
Balone quickly and Armstrong is outside the three point arc jump shot by Kylie Bruce of the
pioneers is good and it looks like there's going to be a timeout called yeah Housdell's going to
call a timeout Malone now up 10 points so we're going to take a short media timeout just listening
to radio three Holesdale 101.7 f out

If you're just listening to us right now,
Malone pioneers have a 10-point lead on the Chargers.
Their biggest of the game, 54-44.
There's still six minutes, 35 seconds left.
Very close game until this quarter
where Malone's sort of kind of begun to pull ahead a little bit.
Yeah, he'll still...
They need to do something that haven't really done all game
and go on a big run here.
Can I have to score quick?
I mean, time is a factor.
Now there's only seven minutes left.
It's not quite as big of a factor.
You know, you don't need to rush,
but there needs to be a little bit of that sense of urgency
as you're taking this basketball down the court.
That's Caitlin Splain.
Hands off to McDonald.
Two guards, two senior guards in the game.
There's Petrissick.
It gets a shot up, but does not go in.
Yeah, Petrissick.
I mean, I'm not.
Honestly, a great look just kind of rolls around the room and falls out.
Really unfortunate for Panasik, excuse me.
Just really unfortunate that that ball did not fall.
And then almost getting the offensive rebound, punched out, and just hit last off the chargers.
And it's just, sometimes it doesn't go your way with those things.
And Miller has the ball looking for an opening.
Finally is able to hand it off to Krupa.
Kylie Bruce on the Bioners
misses a jumper with two seconds left on the shot clock
and
attempted fast break the pass was just a little bit long
for Ellie Bruce to be able to convert the layup
those are the kind of ones though that you're going to need to
come back in this game I don't hate the attempt at all
no it's it was a good it was a good try
as Malone goes down and scores now 56 14
before from alone.
There's Petrissick trying to get in.
No good, but I think there's a foul call.
Bruce able to grab Petrizzik's rebound off the missed shot
and draw a foul on the layup.
So two crucial free throws here if you want to stay in this game.
I have the lead down to 10.
Four minutes and 50 seconds left to go here in this fourth quarter play.
You need to get something going if you want to.
I have a chance to pull off the comeback.
Especially since you can probably expect Malone to maybe start playing a little bit slower
since they are not in a rush to score points anymore.
Yeah, I mean they took down the entire shot clock on that last possession.
The refs are talking about something.
Having a little discussion over there.
Maybe talking about what they're eating for dinner or something.
I have no idea.
Never really sure.
It's really random sometimes that they're talking about.
out of nowhere, they'll just blow the whistle dead,
and they won't change any calls or anything.
They'll just talk and then walk away from each other.
They'll pause the whole game for it.
First free throw is good.
So the Chargers are going to at least get some points out of their possession.
And the second one is also good.
So they're back within 10.
It's 56-46.
Four minutes, 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Yeah, he'll still starting to press here because they kind of have to.
don't really have much of a choice.
Need some big defensive stops and maybe need a three-point or two to cut down this lead
and make it a more reasonable game.
Malone's trying to take as much the shot clock out as possible.
You're going to get a three-second violation on whoever was in the paint there
and Hillsville's going to get the basketball there.
That might have been number 11 on Malone would have been.
Yeah, the kind of errors though there that you cannot make.
in this kind of game.
Splean has the ball, passes to McDonald.
Looking for someone to pass to.
That's a splain.
She gets the lay up.
5648.
A few more possessions like that,
and then Chargers can probably get right back in this.
Yeah, eight-point game now,
cutting the lead down from 12, but it was.
And Kaufman puts up a basket, does not go in,
gets the rebound.
And I think she gets fouled.
She misses another shot, but she's going to be shooting two here.
So two crucial free throws once again for Kaufman.
If she makes them both, it might be tough for the Chargers to come back.
But if she misses one of them, even.
The first one's good for Kaufman.
Three minutes and 44 seconds left.
Chargers down nine.
So technically a three-possession game, but you're going to expect some twos.
So they're going to need to go in here quick,
which is going to miss the second one.
Chargers can put up a three, or that might take some pressure off.
You don't want to just be shooting threes wildly, but you can get a setup.
And they're going to get McCormick on the foul, or on the travel,
but I do really think that she was fouled.
Go kind of just slapped her arm.
She's looking down at it in a little bit of pain.
Yeah.
So inbound to Kaufman, pass.
back to Hunt.
You're going to get a foul here on Caitlin's plane, forcing them to inbound it again.
So now they're one away from the double bonus.
So any fouls from here on out will result in two free throws.
It's not exactly what you want to have at this stage in the game.
I'm looking for a way to get closer, trying to find an opening.
There's an attempted three from Troyer.
It's no good, but rebounded.
Also no good.
Chargers moving down the court very fast.
Pass to Smith, to Panassic.
Back to Smith puts up a three, but it's no good.
Offensive rebound.
Panasic does not get a three, and Malone will have the ball back.
Unfortunately, you get a couple possessions and you get some good looks,
but you're not able to get the basket there for the chargers.
Thinking a little bit like some desperation time, down nine points.
Looks like a foul against Panasics, so.
And they're going to be shooting two free throws here.
Brin Hunt of Malone will be shooting two.
First one is in.
58, 48, 28, 2 minutes, 25 seconds left.
Chargers are going to need to go quick here.
I believe if they make it, they're going to call a timeout.
Yep, we're going to get a timeout from Chargers.
Talking some strategy, talking about going fast, cheers.

Welcome back to Charger Women's Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
We have just over two minutes left. Malone is leading 5948.
Bad pass, it looks like, out of bounds.
Those tips, so the chargers are going to maintain possession here.
They're going to get it right by their own basket, so an opportunity for some quick points.
Splane has the ball.
She puts up a jumper, and it's good.
5950 for Malone.
And they're probably going to start playing a lot slower now since it doesn't make much sense to
get a quick
basket and get the ball right back to Hillsdale.
Yeah, up nine points. Hillsdale needs to stop here.
And then you get a three-point attempt from Malone
and it's good.
And that might be it.
12-point lead now by
Malone.
Hillsdale in need of a quick three and they just go out of bounds.
Malone basketball.
They're just moving faster now because they don't have a lot of time left.
Everything
a little bit quicker, a little bit of desperation.
There's going to be an attempted trap, so they get the double team, but Malone calls the
timeout. So we're going to go to short media timeout. Hillsdale Chargers down 12, minute 31
left play in the fourth quarter of play for women's basketball. You're listening to Radio

up this Christmas season, with Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn bright to the naked eye,
and Uranus and Neptune visible with binoculars. The Geminid and Ercid meteor showers are active,
peaking on December 13th and 22nd, respectively. Look for different colors in the unusual
Geminid meteors. December may also see more aurora thanks to our active sun. Beautiful winter
constellations and objects include Orion with the Orion Nebula in his sword,
W-shaped Cassiopeia with the nearby Andromeda Galaxy and double cluster, the Pleiades and Hyades clusters, and all the stars of the heavenly G.
And we remain alert for the recurrent Nova in Corona Borealis to suddenly appear to the naked eye.
That's your Astro Minute.
Welcome back to Charger Women's Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7 FM.
We've got just under a minute and a half left.
Malone leads the Chargers, 62 to 50.
And it looks like there's just been a foul called against Kendall McCormick,
giving Malone two more free throws.
That will be Abby Price putting up the shots.
90 seconds left, a four-possession game if she misses both free throws.
She's going to make the first.
Technically, a five-possession game here.
Not looking good for the Chargers.
They're going to be moving down the court really quickly after this one.
McDonald, with it.
shot charging at it offensive rebound by Kaufman on Malone and it looks like a foul so more free throw
attempts for Malone volunteers pioneers by mistake like we said earlier don't don't leave us after this game
because we got the men's basketball team taking on Malone's men's basketball in this conference
double header and Kaufman makes the first one and
makes the second one so it's 66 to 50 this game was really close for three quarters so then
malone kind of just pulled away as a big turnover and then another turnover so chargers turn it
over malone turns it over right back McDonald's gotten fouled so I think she'll put up two free
throws yeah yeah 56.1 seconds left chargers down 16 points just playing for their own pride at this
point trying to keep it close looks like got a couple of players checking into the game
this natalie armstrong for the pioneers checking in macdonald's first free throw is good
uh got second free throw is up and also good 66 52 yeah so like you said game was really really close
for about the first three quarters
and even the first half of the second quarter
they got it back within one under five minutes
and then
Mullen really went on a run here to end of the game.
A fast break
and a layup for
Kylie Horn on Malone
puts it back to a 16 point difference
and this might be the Chargers
lost possession of the game
McDonald puts up a three
now we've got the game clock
just barely behind the shot clock so yeah less than a second separating the two there will be
barely about a second for the chargers so we have 10 seconds left on the shot clock
yeah alone looking like they're just trying to dribble it out passing around charger's not
going to foul here no and Kaufman so we're going to have 0.1 seconds left in the game clock
I think there might be, yeah, there's basically just have to shoot it from the inbound.
Yeah, 0.1 seconds left. So this is really going to be your final score here. Chargers fall to Malone, unfortunately, 68 to 52.
And that's the game. So a back and forth game and then Malone just,
I don't know, they score at least like 15, almost 20 points in the second half.
But so that will be the final score, unfortunately.
Chargers are now one-and-one in conference play.
Don't go away, though.
