Starting point is 00:00:00 Two shots to layup. Yeah, this is going to be a big matchup. Hillsdale College is coming into this game at 17 and 8 overall, 14 and 4 in their conference, looking really good. Ursuline's coming in at 8 and 18, 7-11 in conference, so they've had a little bit of a rougher go at it. But we're stretching a good game today. Starting point is 00:20:02 As the game Block inspires They'll be at the first quarter 18 to 16 Hillsdale as you're listening to Chargers basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. I'm Gabe and I'm Gavin. Welcome to the Grammar Minute,
Starting point is 00:20:19 where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time. I'm Lauren Smith and I'm back with another weird history of punctuation marks. It's time for the at symbol. Nobody has any idea where this thing came from. It's at least 800 years old and at the time of its first use had nothing to do with Instagram handles or email addresses. The earliest known text containing this symbol used it to replace a capital A. In various languages, it was used to refer to units of weight or volume or a short form of on the day of,
Starting point is 00:20:49 until recently, it probably didn't have much to do with the word at. In the 1970s, a computer engineer set up an email system using the at sign, and the rest is history. He later joked that he probably single-handedly saved the at sign from going the way of the sent sign on computer keyboards. That's your grammar minute. Visit thegrammerminid.com for more tips and tricks. Don Pottner, Arena. You're listening to Charge Bashball. 1-1-Free Hillsdale 101.1.57 FM. I'm Gabe. I'm Gavin. Back for the second quarter. Chargers up 18 to 16. Caitlin's Blaine brings the ball into the charges.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Dribbles. She's fouled. Charge her ball in the silent. Team 10. It will be passed in by number 15, Kendall McCormick. Splane takes the inbound, dribbles across the arc, passes. Passes again, McDonald's with the ball, driving, goes up, is fouled. She will shoot two. Good take. All number 23 broke on the heroes.
Starting point is 00:22:24 Her first team seven. McDonald's first shot goes up, goes in. McDonald's shooting 75% from the free throw line this year. The second one goes up, goes in. First line, Kaylee Minch takes the ball up the court. Stout defense by Cormick. Passes it, passes it back again to Sophie Klein, sends an arcing pass down to the baseline.
Starting point is 00:23:15 There'll be a charger's foul as Ursuline inbounds the ball underneath the wrong basket. It really seems like Ursuline's game plan is to really push the tempo because they know they can't hang with us if we're playing just based on ability. I think we got them in terms of that. But if they can outrun us, they might have a chance in this game. Sophie Klein, inbound the ball. Passing its number 24, Statsbury, who misses a three so bad, it looks like another pass.
Starting point is 00:23:44 As Lauren McDonald gets the rebound, takes up the court. McCormick with the ball. Back to McDonald. driving, shoots mid-range. It's good look. Travel. Rets called travel on number 13.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Marilyn Popowell as she comes down with the rebound. It looked like more of a contested ball. Ursula nonetheless, take this ball in. Kaylee Minch, taking the ball up. Guarded by McCormick
Starting point is 00:24:16 has played great defense so far this quarter. Passed the Sophie Klein. Tries to put up a layup. doesn't go in. Recovered by McCormick, who drives down fast, just blowing right by number 12. Riley Stopp. Passed to the room, he passes to Splane. Spang goes up, off the backboard driving. Great shot by her, two points. Minch taking the ball up for Ursuline. Passed to Klein. Passed to Dominique Evans. Number 23, Brooke Hardin with shot. Brooke Heron. Doesn't go in, missed three. Recovered by McDonald. who passes the number 13 Maryland Popowell puts it up and it goes in using the size that she has that made her the height that made her an all-American volleyball player to get over a couple defenders.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Number 10, Sophie Klein with the ball to Evans as an off ball foul is called. That'll be on Emma Rulman, her second of the game has three chargers come in. That's number 11. Sydney Panisic going for Emma Rulman. Splane and Popple will also come out. out. Beatriz. Batting down and inbound the ball
Starting point is 00:26:00 as Ursuline will rebound again. When Earthline is not in fast break or in transition, they really are struggling to get anything going on offense today. Our defense has been stupendous. Dominique Evans takes the ball in the low post. Scott Spursberry puts the shots up. Miss. We're covered by number five.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Sarah Alconvincius. Blocking foul. Blocking foul call. Chargers will inbound the ball. McDonald will take the ball up for the chargers. McDonald dumps it down to Alkenetius. Turnover. Statsbury takes it back. Pass to Dominique Evans.
Starting point is 00:27:06 As Ursuline turns the ball over, that's Sarah Penesic on the turnover, takes the ball all the way back. Misses the layup, recovered by Ursuline. Got to get better shots than that. Dominique Evans tries to drive, nothing there. Kickball violation, erstline, taking it out from the baseline. Shreffler, catch to the inbound.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Misses a shot, two chargers in her face, nothing there. Playing really good help defense in the post. McDonald, one of the best players in the G-Mac, taking the ball back up for Hillsdale. Passed it to Number 23 McDonald and McCormick Shoots the midrange Goes in
Starting point is 00:28:13 puts Hillsdale up 26 to 16 with six minutes left in the second quarter Minch for Ersline taking the ball back really struggling behind Kendall McCormick's defense Erstline passes Statsbury
Starting point is 00:28:38 puts a three-point shot up goes in McDonald takes the ball back. Goes. Peaches it. Three. Her fourth are three of this game. Yeah, I think she was 12 points right now.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Ursuline takes the ball back. Statsbury. At the three-point line. She cannot dribble. Urseline guards look like they don't know how to dribble. Dominique Evans takes the ball, drives. as Ruffler fouls features it off the ball. Yeah, that's a good job to know she's putting her shoulder into you and draw that foul.
Starting point is 00:29:31 This Chargers defense, once they're able to slow the aim down, they are stifling. Number 30, Caitlin's playing taking the ball at the court. Passes turnover, Ursuline, as Statsbury takes the ball back, past the Dimch to climb. 24 Statsburg and Airball 3 to Dominique Evans Who makes her three Can't let him get second chances like that We've been doing a pretty good job today
Starting point is 00:30:18 Maximizing possessions Whether it's rebounds or fouls What not but Second Chance points is what kills you Number 15 Kendall McCormick taking the ball up is foul He will shoot two Good take Taking us to be a lot of Radio's 1.5.m. Starting point is 00:31:51 On Radio Free Hillsdale, 10m. My name's Dave. I'm Gavin. And as we return, charges are up 29 to 22 with 413 left in the second quarter. Kettleable corn will be shooting two free throws off a non-shot foul, Ursuline's fifth foul. Yeah, so women's basketball is slightly different where it's by quarters, obviously. and on the fifth foul, we get into double bonus. So on that foul right there, now we're in double bonus.
Starting point is 00:32:24 So every foul, we get two free throws off that, which is huge for the rest of this half. Kendall McCormick shoots her first free throw, doesn't go in, shooting 62.3% from the line this year. She puts up her second shot. It goes in. Minch taking the ball up for Earth's line. The all-women's college,
Starting point is 00:32:56 almost the entire roster is from the Ohio State McCormick takes the ball up off a turnover Passes it to peters it Turnover Dominique Evans recovers it Gotta play more in control Shreffler dumps it down to Klein puts up an easy layout For an arrow score
Starting point is 00:33:19 Caitlin Splain taking the ball up I feel like we get flustered if the tempo gets too high Gotta play within ourselves here Splaine shoots three That was a deep three Doesn't go in Almost from the logo
Starting point is 00:33:39 I mean she is the Hillsdale College Steph Curry But Oh yeah If there's You know Compared to whoever Curry, Caitlin Clark
Starting point is 00:33:50 She can shoot from anywhere on this court Oh yeah Confidently No shot's a bad shot McDonald's taking the ball back For the Chargers Passes Passes
Starting point is 00:34:12 Number five Alex Cinesius passes to Popowell Chargers drive Good take Great shot by Maryland Popowell a little up and around Michael Jordan-esque for the layup First line takes the ball back
Starting point is 00:34:32 Doing a good job closing out at the post They're struggling to get those passes in Tries to throw a lob A misplaced lob Great view of covering Great pass My fast break there Papelwell with two points and what five seconds four points in five seconds yeah really good she's finding the open looks on the post there
Starting point is 00:34:56 charges are rolling offensively so far contact the patrol team at edmund jones and find your wish emmer jones member s i bc ladies and gentlemen today's gate As the charges, she's like, I feel like on offense, we really got to get Annalise Peters like the ball more. She's, I think, four for four from three right now. Like, looking really good. She's on fire. My dad texted me. He said, number 23 is on fire. So he knows balls. So. Got to play the hot hand. Yeah, I got to play the hot hand there.
Starting point is 00:35:43 as the charges up 34 to 24 with two minutes and 33 seconds left in the second quarter Minch taking the ball up for erst line dribbles guarded by McDonald passes to Evans passes again another misplaced law they really two yeah they really can't get the ball down to the low post there really good denial defense down there trying their hearts to feed Sophie Klein but can't get it back down to ours McDonald takes the ball up to the court. Passes to Rulman, passes to Splain. Back to Pitchfizik.
Starting point is 00:36:24 McDonald drives. Dumps out to Rulman. Good look. To Bruce, to McDonald, three, it goes. Bang. It's a good look there. It's a bit of passing. First line takes the ball back.
Starting point is 00:36:40 Evans with the ball. Passes, passes. Nothing around to drive. Missed layup. McDonald, driving. running down the court with the ball. So it's a display. Three?
Starting point is 00:36:56 Doesn't go. Good look, though. We're getting some good looks here on these fast breaks. Great shots. You know you're a great three-point shooter when your teammate passes up an open lay-ups to give you a three-point shot. Oh, yeah. It's looking like Ursuline's getting a little tired out there.
Starting point is 00:37:14 We saw them warming up with only seven players. That'll be something to keep note of late in this game. They're conditioning with a few players on this court. Yeah, I mean, our. our intramural basketball team we were winning games with five guys so it doesn't mean you can do it it's just a little bit harder that's right is erstline passed the ball looking for any sort of opening Klein takes it shoots a mid-range goes in finally getting Klein the ball again after a good offense there three possessions trying to get to and failing McDonald's takes it up
Starting point is 00:37:50 explained with the ball pump fakes drives layup does not go in recovering recover by Minch who's taking the wall down the court. Tribbles off the pick from Klein. Klein rolls, gets the ball. Turns around, shoots, makes it. 33 seconds left as Lauren McDonald takes the ball down the court. Dribbles goes 25 seconds. The Chargers do not have the final shot with the game.
Starting point is 00:38:27 Taking the ball down. Rulman, two point goes in. First line has the final shot if they want to. 12 seconds left. 10 seconds left as she crosses half court, Kaylee Minch. Hillsdale not biting on any trickery. Passes, jumps. Final shot missed.
Starting point is 00:38:51 As we go into halftime, your Hillsdale Chargers lead 39 to 28. You're listening to Chargers basketball at Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.1.7 FM. I'm Gabe. I'm Gabe. Thank you. Welcome back to Don Tivitz Potter Arena. My name is Gabe Thiemar. I'm Gavin White.
Starting point is 00:39:08 And, hey, fun first half for the Chargers, up 39 to 28 over the Ursuline arrows. What do you take you, Gavin? I mean, we're up by 11. I feel like we could be up by way more, though. Like, we played a really good first half. Just more shots fell. Like, we had some good looks that didn't go our way. Like, they can't really get the ball down low,
Starting point is 00:39:29 and they're struggling shooting the ball. So I don't know how they're going to really be able to catch up to us and score. I mean, I don't want to speak too soon, but it's looking really good for us right now. Yeah, and something to note is I'm seeing only eight players for Ursula. Yeah. And, you know, we all know that you don't, you know, in reality, eight might be all you need, but it does seem like an underman team, especially compared to the kind of depth that Hillsdale has. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:00 Especially with how they came out. I'm surprised they came out trying to push the ball so fast because now they're really just burning their energy that they don't, like, we can keep up with, you know. Like they came out and it was a closer game at the start, but we just started to pull away as they got more and more tired. I feel like the second half might be more of the same story. Unless they figure out that, oh, wait, we don't got the same depth. We got to slow this game down so we can compete.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Definitely a questionable coaching call. But on the other hand, you know, when you allow this Charter's defense to slow down and really get comfortable and, like, behind the basket, I mean, we saw it. They were trying so hard to feed the ball to a big woman, Sophie Klein, down in the post. But, I mean, she's, her and Dominie Gevin's kind of in the only bright spots on this Ursuline team. And a lot of their points coming off of fast break.
Starting point is 00:40:59 Yeah, really when they were slowing it down, they couldn't get anything. They couldn't get it down to the post. They were getting some open jumpers, and they made a few of those. and that's why they're only down 11, really. Definitely. We have 60 seconds. It'll start of the second half. It will be...
Starting point is 00:41:18 Chargers ball? I think so. I guess we'll find out. The possession arrow is pointing at the guess, so I feel like it's probably their ball. It'll be erstline ball to start the second half in 45 seconds. Tonight is senior night, five seniors, being honored tonight. Wonderful celebratory evening, although this is not the final home game for the Chargers.
Starting point is 00:41:58 Just if I recall correctly, the final weekend home game. So getting more people out. Great crowd out here in Dotswitz-Potter Arena today. I've seen a lot of our fellow teammates over in the back corner. Oh yeah. Shout out Mason Stewart, Brick, and the Alabama hoodie.
Starting point is 00:42:19 Shout out Brick, for sure. Brick? Quite the basketball player. He's a Hooper? Big Hooper. Big Hooper. Sneaky Hooper. Big shout out to Kyle Riffel, sweeping the court.
Starting point is 00:42:33 It's a fellow running back right there. Keeping our Chargers safe. No slips on his watch. First line will be in the rebounding the ball Dominique Evans takes it takes it down pass the decline at the top of the key passes it Shreffler puts a shot up denied nice block there from Ellie Bruce Ellie Bruce comes down with the rebound is that a that was a jump ball I feel like they're calling the jump balls really quick they're not really given her a chance to like get rip it away I was like I don't really yeah I don't agree with the speed of that call coming out and press the defense. Ursula, we mentioned, you know, are you saving, are you saving your legs for the
Starting point is 00:43:27 fourth quarter? And no, they're coming out and pressed man. They're really trying to bring this score back in quick. Sarah, Lauren McDonald, inbounds the ball, passes to rulemen, holds it, dribbles, passes, McDonald, dumps it down to freshman Ellie Bruce, puts it up, missed, recovered by Ursuline. As number 12, stop, takes it up the court. Stop with two P's for last name. He puts a shot up, rebounded by McDonald, who drives down the court. Ellie Bruce.
Starting point is 00:44:07 Grulman? Jeez. Two missed layups. Missed opportunity. Ursuline takes the ball back up, surviving that fast break. Nope. Also misses the layup. Geez.
Starting point is 00:44:22 They'll be Chargers ball as the ball goes out of bounce. Both teams missed on some pretty good. good looks there on layups so I guess it evens out but want those to fall if you're a charger fan McDonald's taking the ball back turn over Evans from urseline takes the ball all the way down for the layup good hustle there from McCormick but just too good of a look on the fast break McDonald takes it back again dribbles holds passes to McCormick pass it to the ruleman puts a shot up doesn't go recovered by Shreffler oh nope ruleman great effort but the ball will as it goes out of bounds will be ruled urseline ball
Starting point is 00:45:09 as dominique evans will be taking the ball up to court a change from uh guard kaley minch who took it up most of the first half for the arrows i feel like evans has a lot tighter of handles than minch so she's faster i feel like it makes more sense for her to be running the point right now definitely i think one of the more skilled players on urseline As Sophie Klein puts up a shot, doesn't go. Riley's stop with the shot. Puts it up. I'm out. Hillsdale?
Starting point is 00:45:49 Yes, tieout Hillsdale, 754 in the first quarter. And Hillsdale leads 39 to 32. You're listening to Chargers basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale at 101.7 FM. I'm Gabe. I'm Gavin. Hello, my name is Ariel McDowell, and I'm here with a word to the wise. Recently, I've noticed that modern selfie culture has become kind of weird. As a concept, selfies were introduced only in the last 20 years or so,
Starting point is 00:46:16 and they can be a fun way to memorialize good times. However, this new phenomena of having extensive collections of photos capturing only one's own face is kind of odd and frankly a little narcissistic. Every once in a while, everyone needs a picture of themselves for a profiler headshot. But what possible reasoning exists for posting pictures of just one's own face on a media platform for the heck of it? Anyone can see what you look like in your group Homecoming photos, and certainly no one needs an edited picture of
Starting point is 00:46:43 just your face up close contorted into an expression that flexes your features. Give me a good reason for posting selfies of just your face on Instagram. There aren't any, so stop it. That's today's word to the wise. I will see you next week. Welcome back to Dodd to Fitzpottor Arena. I'm Gabe. I'm Gavin.
Starting point is 00:47:04 754 left in the third quarter second half Hillsdale leads 39 to 32 Gavin how do you feel about how Hillsville's been playing so far to open the second half I feel like it wasn't a great
Starting point is 00:47:20 I mean we've had plenty of good looks just not falling right now once they start falling we'll grow the lead I think we should be alright right now as of right now McDonald drives passes it out in the Cormick loses the ball
Starting point is 00:47:37 recovered by Ursuline. That's Kaylee Minch, the guard. Passed it to Evans. Back to Menser. Klein, backs down a charger and puts a ball up for two points. Lauren McDonald takes the ball back.
Starting point is 00:47:56 Passes to Splane. Who passes to McCormick? Who passes to Alkinesias? Splane puts up a shot. Locked by Ursulaan. It'll remain Chargers ball. Lauren McDonald on the inbound's pass.
Starting point is 00:48:22 Gets the inflamed. Leaves Ursulae jumping, but this is three. As it goes out of bound, it'll be Arrow's ball with 706 left in the second quarter. Third quarter. Lynch taking the ball up for the arrows. Passes it to Evans. Looks like we're running a 2-3 zone here on defense. Klein.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Her second time this afternoon, shooting underneath the backboard. As McDonald takes the ball up, holds it three-point line, passes to Popowell, passes to Petra Zick. Good look. She's been money today, so getting her some good looks is good. They'll fall eventually. Yeah, Petra's at four or five from three for 12 points today. Great night.
Starting point is 00:49:26 Great afternoon for her today. Alan Cinesius takes the ball, rolls out of bounds. Offen, Ursuline woman's foot, I will remain charged ball. McDonald passes into Ellie Bruce, dribbles. That will be an offball foul on Riley Stubles. for Earth's line remains Chargers ball underneath their own hoop passes to Ellie Bruce again same in-bounds play passes to McDonald's off the screen back to Bruce in the low post great scores Bruce good job great job scoring with a very tall Sophie Klein standing over her very schoolful play
Starting point is 00:50:27 As Ursuline, after an off-ball foul, She'll have been asked her First. As Ursuline, after an off-ball foul, will inbound the ball under their own hoop, passes into Evans. He dribbles,
Starting point is 00:50:48 dribbles, calls for an ISO, passes it to Stotsbury. Turnover. Lorne McDonald, bats pass, but it will, as it goes out of bounds, she can't recover, and it will go back to Ursline. You know, Riley's stop is their leading to score,
Starting point is 00:51:14 and I feel like we've done a really great job tonight, limiting her shots and her possessions. Seems like it's a focus of the defense. They have done a great job forcing other players for the arrows to score points, and frankly, they haven't been doing very well doing that. As Minch puts up a three at the end of the shot clock, doesn't go in, recovered by Splein, making a great rebound, the low post, Passed to McDonald's and passed to Alacanacus to Bruce to Splane who drives and will be foul on there's line
Starting point is 00:51:51 fouls first line first line with two fouls with 518 left in the third quarter hillsdale up 41 to 34 inbound to Bruce down to McDonald who twists to Splane three doesn't go good look though rebound by Alecanesius
Starting point is 00:52:17 is a dumb ball Erseline players get their hands in there for jump ball and Ersline will get this one inbounded Minch taking the ball up for the arrows over 10 Sophie class
Starting point is 00:52:35 Minch taking the ball up for the arrows dribbles Passes. Statsbury. Passes. Sophie Klein goes up. Two-point shot for the arrows. Really good ball movement. Chargers only have two points this half so far, over halfway through the third quarter. I've got to get something going on offense here. As McDonald is fouled as he drives, first line, three fouls. After five fouls per quarter, per quarter, per. NCAA women's college basketball after five fouls immediately in the double bonus something different than most other forms of basketball.
Starting point is 00:53:27 Yeah, the fouls different rule than the men's game, which would take place in three. Definitely. The fouls reset after each quarter, too. So the fouls per quarter could really affect the outcome of the game. Hillsdale, one of the most, one of if not the most disciplined team in the GMAC, is one of the conference leaders in fewest fouls per game. Really well-coached team by Brianna Brendan in her second season. Chargers are looking great so far this year. Third place in the G-Mack and Ashland's tough.
Starting point is 00:54:13 Ashland's kind of a behemoth in the GMAC. But win the conference tournament and then, you know, who knows what goes on in March Madness. Looking to make some noise in the postseason here. Chargers inbounding the ball. Peetres it. Getting the inbound pass. Passed at the McDonald. Two Splane.
Starting point is 00:54:56 Two petersick. Who drives? Gets the ball taken from her. By Shreffler who passes to Evans. Carrey. Carrey. Oh, my. Missed call there, for sure.
Starting point is 00:55:10 Geez. They don't call carries like they used to back in the day. I wish. You know, big complaint. Ask your dad. Ask your uncle. Ask your granddad. As
Starting point is 00:55:27 Dominique Evans is fouled on her shot, she will shoot two. As Emma Rulman goes out from Kendall McCormick. And Sidney Panisick also goes in for Petrazek. Panisic. Some tough names on the Charger roster. Yes, yes, and that's Panasic. My mistake. Kendall McCormick, taking the ball up, passes it.
Starting point is 00:56:12 McDonald. Passed it to Ellie Bruce. Okay. Gets the ball out. Missed shot. Ursuline gets the ball. Great job on Bruce, though. Preventing a jump ball by getting the ball out.
Starting point is 00:56:28 Good hustle to get that. As Statsbury is, the ball for Ursuline. Passes two. Schreffler to Evans. Klein travels and there will be Chargers ball. Klein trying to pull a shack down on number 11
Starting point is 00:56:48 for the Chargers. Panassic. Doesn't work though. Chargers have been struggling offensively this quarter. That was scored I think 8 to 8 to 2 here so far.
Starting point is 00:57:06 Not what you want to see. McDonald with the ball Top of the key Passes, passes McCormick drives Passing to McDonald Goes in Great backdoor cut
Starting point is 00:57:21 from McDonald You can really see the team chemistry in these passes How much You know They've bonded over the last few months of the season
Starting point is 00:57:31 One of the longest seasons In college sports They've been playing games It's October McDonald's taking the ball up Maryland Popple well The two-sport athlete goes up scores urseline dribbling passing clines hop the key Evans down in the low post
Starting point is 00:58:01 goes up lost is off the side of the backboard ball rolling around airball shot missed foul that was uh it was a coach's nightmare for possession yeah everything that could go wrong did go wrong But first line, shooter does get fouled. Dominique Evans will shoot two. Evans from 77% three from the free throw line this year, misses her first, shoots her second, goes in. Despite the heckling of our teammates down below, right in front of their basket. McDonald's taking the ball up, passes to Fanasic.
Starting point is 00:58:58 McCormick, is Popple. McDonald tries to drive, dumps it back out, as number 13 Papa well is fouled, she will shoot two. Let's get a job,
Starting point is 00:59:17 John, that foul. Great addition to Hillsdale of women's basketball. I mean, great contributor to the women's team, the women's volleyball team, one of,
Starting point is 00:59:26 if not the most dominant sport on campus coming in and puts up the first shot, makes it. The second shot makes it two for two. As Earth's line inbound,
Starting point is 00:59:55 Hillsdale comes out in the press, McCormick playing great defense Shot goes up Ruff's call foul on McCormick I don't know From up here it looked like An Ursulaan player just Tripped over herself
Starting point is 01:00:17 And fell into McCormick But not our call to make I guess As number 12 for the arrows Riley Stop STO double P We'll shoot two She's their leading score with 12.7 points Hillsdale's done a great job so far forcing them to find other ways to score with Evans and Klein
Starting point is 01:00:45 as she misses her first free throw could be a career low for her in points since becoming a starter she makes her second free throw shooting an average of 69.6% from the free throw line McCormick with the ball with the chargers drives passes out to number 11 Panassick to Bruce features it. McCormick. Bruce, no one around her? Easy to.
Starting point is 01:01:20 That's a good, good ball movement there from the Chargers. Ursuline defenders lost in the sauce of Charger Ballmoot. As Ursuline goes, that's a nice shot. Makes a skillful two-point layout. 49, 41, with 110 left in the third quarter. Ellie Bruce, down in the low post. Two erstline defenders knocked the ball out of bounds, but they rule it Ursuline ball going their way.
Starting point is 01:01:57 We've been looking to get those feeds down low. It works sometimes. When we get that pass in, it's really good. Because you'll either get a foul or good look at a layup. But that's a tough pass to make, lobbing it over the defense there. Ursuline with the ball driving, that's number 12. Riley stopped, putting the ball up. And McCormick takes the ball back for the chart.
Starting point is 01:02:29 explain drives the pass the Bruce doesn't go as Panassic shoots was fouled and almost had an hand won as the ball bounces on the room for what felt like 10 seconds before going out I was good hustle there to get that offense rebound put it back up Sydney Panassick shooting 500 from the free throw line makes her first, makes her second, two for two, as Evans takes the ball back for Ursula. Struggling on stout defense by Kendall McCormick has to pass as number three, Kaylee Minch passes to Shreffler, passes to Statsbury. This Riley Stop goes up and makes a fadeaway jumper. As that'll be the end of the third quarter, Chargers lead 51 to 45.
Starting point is 01:03:55 You're listening to Chargers basketball on Radio Free Hillsville, 101.7 FM. I'm Gabe. I'm Gavin. Fox on Games, your insider's chief code to gaming. Major changes to Overwatch 2 starting February 18th. They streamed what they called a game-changing update to Overwatch on multiple video services. Game director, Aaron Keller. We're really excited to show you many of the things but definitely not all
Starting point is 01:04:21 that we are planning for the first half of this year. Using Marvel rivals as an influence, OW2 is introducing hero bands into the next live season. Gavin Winter is the senior systems designer. We want a system that punches up at the strong or frustrating heroes without punching down at weaker niche picks. They'll also be introducing a map voting system
Starting point is 01:04:40 after hero bands. And one of the biggest changes to core gameplay, a perk system, which can make the heroes you choose to play more customizable to your own play style. Lead gameplay designer Alec Dawson. They provide an additional strategic layer allowing you to alter your play style and adapt to situations.
Starting point is 01:04:59 Amen Dignam, Fox News. Welcome back to Donson's in this Potter Arena. I'm Gabe. I'm Gavin. Your Chargers starting the fourth quarter with a 51 to 45 lead over visiting Ursulae College Arrows. Gavin, how do you feel about team going to this fourth quarter? Pretty rough.
Starting point is 01:05:21 third quarter. Wasn't really expecting us to get outscored there, but we just got to finish this game. Chargers is trying to take care of business against the 10th ranked team in the G-Mac. Defense could be hurting, in part, due to the absence due to injury of Savannah Smith, who is one of the better defenders on this team.
Starting point is 01:05:51 And having Mary Warrie, Popplel and Ellie Bruce, a freshman, and a first-year basketball player coming from volleyball, returning as Caitlin Spleyne takes the ball in a fast break, passes to Petrazek, back to Spleyne. Three, go! There we go. She wears 30, and basketball fans have to think of Steph Curry because, wow, she can shoot it from anywhere. Airball from Erseline there. Ursuline, not so much. Nope.
Starting point is 01:06:22 Splane back with the ball passes down to Bruce Put the ball up goes Ellie Bruce really coming into her own now With Savannah Smith's absence Having a great time playing so far Emma Rulman, great job guarding a pass from the first line player
Starting point is 01:06:43 Great defense Splane takes the ball back Back to Rulman Back to Splain from three in the corner Doesn't go It's good look though More open looks for Splean the better explain adding to her career three point record
Starting point is 01:07:00 school record for the number of three point shots made in her career just an astounding time she's had here at hillstale college as foul is called on annalise petersick guarding a shot felt more like James Harden drawn a foul not not necessarily peter six fault on that one
Starting point is 01:07:26 yeah it was like a shay gil just Alexander play right there from first line. As Dominique Evans takes two, feels like she's taking 10 so far today. Makes her first one. I feel like that should not have been a shooting foul. Definitely should have been more of a drive. As she makes her second one, bringing the score 56 to 47.
Starting point is 01:07:56 Your Chargers up 8.15 left in the fourth quarter. McDonald with the ball. drives, fakes a pass, puts it up, doesn't go. Wow. Nice. Has Marilyn Powell? Has the shot back up? Career night tonight, scoring the ball really efficiently.
Starting point is 01:08:21 Sophie Klein for the arrows up atop, passes to Minch. As Ursuline drives, puts it up, and number 24, Statsbury, scores two points for her arrows. McDonald's with the ball, passed to pitch. Petrizik. Bang. What a shot. 15 points, 5 of 6 from 3 for Petritsik, a 3 point specialist. That was, yeah, impressive show for her tonight.
Starting point is 01:08:52 She is a 3-and-D kind of gal for these chargers and a great section. Second option from Beyond the Ark. She was shooting 41% coming into this game, and her percentage is going to go up even more, which is super impressive. Shooting 40% from 3 is no joke. as a great guy who goes on the court, Kyle Riffel, along with Landon Van Bique, mopping these floors, making sure all safes play on.
Starting point is 01:09:24 Just such incredible dudes. My fire team leader, your position, mate. Oh, yeah. Chargers huddling up around head coach, Priana Brett, undoubtedly drawn up a play, getting them ready. Holding on, both say hold on. charge were up, 12 points with 723 left, a, you know, a rule of thumb for the game of basketball. If the team is winning by more points than the long minutes left in the game, that team has an 80% chance to win.
Starting point is 01:10:00 I have both of all. And you've got to wonder what are the odds when they're, you know, twice as many points as they're all minutes left in the game. So, probably increases. Just taking care of business against a G-Mack bottom dweller in the game. Ursuline. But definitely a great job not letting, you know, coming off with a huge win over number fifth-seeded Finley. Great job on the Chargers by so far not letting the high of that victory lead to a crash
Starting point is 01:10:33 in their next home game. Definitely. Really a great start to this fourth quarter here. Going on a bit of a run. As Ursuline inbounds the ball to Liam. Menser. Statsbury. Back to Menser. Back to Statsbury. Back to Menser again as they play Hot Potato. Menser goes up. Misses. Jump ball. Jump ball as Sophie Klein comes down to rebound and three chargers all contest the ball with her. Gavin White also a shooter in the booth.
Starting point is 01:11:16 Drain that protein shake into the garbage. Nothing but that. McDonald's taking the ball back up the court to Petra Zick back to McDonald Popowell down in the post to McDonald Oh what a feed Al-Kanesius goes in
Starting point is 01:11:40 two-point shot That was some good looking offense right there First line losing track of the ball and who's around him as the Chargers cut and pass so well Menser tries to dump it down to
Starting point is 01:11:55 Sophie Klein but as we've seen so many times between Lauren McDonald and Ellie Bruce and Marilyn Papua well, just denying entry into the low post. Really stifling defense down there. Menser inbounds
Starting point is 01:12:13 the ball for the arrows. Passes it, Sophie Klein, who dribbles around, goes up and makes an impressive two-point layup. McDonald's taking it back to the chargers. Goes, Splane, drives back to McDonald,
Starting point is 01:12:34 holds it, shoots it. Good look. Three does not go in. Great look though as the arrows left her pretty wide open. Just forgetting about our second thousand point score that happens to be on the court. She's a really good athlete.
Starting point is 01:12:50 She's got really tight handles. Very impressed watching her play. As Earth's line takes the ball back, Dominique Evans, beyond the arc, holds it, looking to pass. Sophie Klein, top of the key, dribbles down, passes back out, Statsbury puts it up, two-point shot.
Starting point is 01:13:23 As Chargers hold a 10-point lead, 63, 5 minutes and 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter. McDonald's taking the ball back, Splane, to McCormick, back to Splane, who dribbles, drives, goes up, doesn't go. Just got to get that to fall. rebounded by Ursuline He takes it back on a fast break Hmm As they called
Starting point is 01:13:51 A foul on the charges Hilsdale with two fouls to Earthslines None this quarter And uncharacteristically Low Fowl quarter by Ursuline Who was reaching the double bonus bonus Five fouls in each the last three quarters
Starting point is 01:14:09 This game Statsbury Good Tries to dump it down to Shreff down the low post doesn't puts a shot up recovered by Bruce McDonald takes it back to the Chargers Bruce again shoots doesn't go recovered by Al Canetius good job on the offensive rebounds shot by McDonald from the three-point line does not go let it travel as the charger stands erupt in outrage as Dominique Evans recovers the ball and slides but no travel is called
Starting point is 01:14:46 She passes it out. Didn't that happen earlier in the game where we were getting a rebound and fell on the ground and they called a travel on that too? Not calling the game evenly both ways. But Al-Kanesha's taking the ball down to turnover and fast break. Goes in. Nice. Good take. Good fast break.
Starting point is 01:15:07 Up 12 with four minutes left. It's looking good. It'll be timeout. Ursuline. Ursuline. We will be back. You're listening to Chargers basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101. 7 FM. I'm Gabe. I'm Gavin.
Starting point is 01:15:23 This is The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group. At age 28, Abraham Lincoln gave a speech in what he believed could threaten the future of America's political institutions. He predicted, if that threat ever reached us, it must spring up from amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, then we ourselves must be its author and its. executioner. For as a nation of free men, we are destined to live through all times or die by suicide. It would seem those words are as prevalent today as one first spoken by Abraham Lincoln in 1838. This has been the Making of America. I'm Michael Emerson, and you can visit us at Jeffersonmediagroup.com.
Starting point is 01:16:20 I'm Gavin. I'm Gave. I'm Gavin. You're charges. We're currently holding. a 12 point lead with four minutes and four seconds left in the fourth quarter. Hillsdale up 65 and 53. And I mean, Gavin, you got to feel great about how we're playing right now in the fourth quarter. Yeah, we're looking really good. Running up and down the court playing good defense. I mean, just got to close out these last four minutes. Doing pretty good.
Starting point is 01:16:49 Everything going for the Chargers this senior night. As erst line inbounds the ball, Dominique Evans takes it passes as, Shreffler passes it back and nothing really opening up. They've been running a lot of pick and roll with Shreffler. Fowl called on the chargers as Statsbury appeared to just run right into two chargers. Yeah, I don't know how. I think basketball fouls are a little weird in that way. Like if you just run into the defense and they don't, their feet aren't set,
Starting point is 01:17:31 then it's going to be a foul on them. Yeah, the... It's a bit interesting. I believe to draw the fouls. Something Ursuline taking advantage of. Yeah. As Alex Neesha bats out an inbound attempt from the arrows,
Starting point is 01:17:44 as they'll run their second play. Okay. Foul called on Lauren McDonald, shooting foul on Evans. Not exactly the shot. Not the foul call, I would have called. I mean, she wasn't really... She was pretending to shoot, I guess.
Starting point is 01:18:03 It was like facing away from the basket. It's good. I mean, that's a good job to draw that foul, draw the shooting foul to get to the line. It's number three, Kaylee Minch guard, shooting the free throws, makes both of them.
Starting point is 01:18:19 And as Lauren McDonald takes the ball at the court for the Chargers, drives, looking angry, beaches it out beyond the yard, passes into Bruce, who goes up, doesn't go, gets her own rebound. Passed to Petrusick,
Starting point is 01:18:34 passes to McDonald, who dribbles around and passes again, gets a pick from Ellie Bruce, drives. Lauren McDonald, layup attempt, doesn't go. First line, taking the ball back on a fast break. Got to use some clock on our possessions here.
Starting point is 01:18:58 About 30 seconds, we can burn it. Petrusik passes to McCormick, who pump fakes, drives, back to Petrizo. Alecanesias with the ball beyond the arc. Her pass intercepted by number 24, Statsbury. Oh, good defense. Who just gets denied by Kendall McCormick,
Starting point is 01:19:24 who's played great defense throughout the entire game today. Who shoots a three, doesn't go. Recovered by Dominique Evans of Ursuline. Looking at the Ursuline roster, their entire team is from Ohio, except for number 33, Kyla Fitzgerald, who doesn't seem to be, suited up tonight, but she's from Central Coast Australia and can't help but think about
Starting point is 01:19:51 Daniel Warburton on the Hillsdale Charger football team who's also from Australia. So shout out to Dan. Our own teammate from Brisbane, just outside of Sydney in New Queensland, Australia. Great guy. Great accent. As we go to immediate timeout, you are listening to Chargers basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7. FM, I'm good. I'm getting.
Starting point is 01:20:19 Integrity, commitment, love of the game. These traits describe the people high school sporting events can't start without. The officials. They're out there every day giving back to our kids. Let's give them the respect they deserve. Better yet, why don't you become one? Visit the MHSAA website for more information.
Starting point is 01:20:37 There's help wanted, just whistle. A message from the Michigan High School Athletic Association, promoting the value and values of educational athletics. Welcome back to 101.7 FM. I'm Gabe. I'm Gavin. You're listening to Hillsville Women's College basketball. Chargers lead 65 to 57 against Ursuline College with 212 left in the fourth quarter. Lauren McDonald, down below in the low post. Fadeway jumper goes. Great shot. Really a great night for these seniors. Lauren McDonald, one of the two splash sisters that we have here, two senior guards who hurry, Caitlin's Blaine both have scored a thousand points in their collegiate careers, and they will be missed from this Chargers team, both graduating seniors this year. They'll make some noise in the GMAC tournament, maybe NCAA tournament coming up this postseason, though, for sure.
Starting point is 01:21:36 Fight for the ball. Fight for the ball on the logo, on the horse head. Jump ball. Jump ball called. It will be Chargers ball, enbounding. 140 left, 67 to 57. Chargers leading. And, you know, great day to be a Hillsdale fan. Definitely.
Starting point is 01:22:04 Extending their win streak so far to two after a near storybook comeback against Northwood last Saturday. Taking down fifth seat, Finley. And now taking down if this holds the number 10th seat in the GMAC, Ursula. who still has something to fight for. This is not an Earthline team that has been eliminated from the tournament. They are fighting to, in the 10th spot, trying to make their way back up in the 8th spot with these few games remaining as Hillsdale will inbound the ball.
Starting point is 01:22:45 This was definitely not a meaningless game. Chargers came out. We performed pretty well. Splane taking the inbound drives. Good take. Ersline for getting to. to defend our thousand points for as she makes easy layup.
Starting point is 01:23:00 That was nice. Nice take. Dominique Evans with Herscheline, taking the ball back. Passes to Sophie Klein. To Scottsbury. Who dribbles. Passes to number three, Minch.
Starting point is 01:23:17 As a foul is called. Is that off the ball? Yeah, it was an offball foul on on, um, explain, I believe. stop was trying to post her up. So now after five fouls are in the double bonus, so stop will go to the line to shoot two.
Starting point is 01:23:37 Stop, the leading score this season for Ursula, but not in this game. As the Shrars have been done, a great job suffocating her. As her first, free throw does not go. Shoots her second, it goes in. As Hillsdale leads 69 to 58, one minute and 11 seconds left,
