Starting point is 00:00:01 The following is a special presentation of WRFH Sports. Crowd is roaring. It's a sold-out game here. Takes the first. It's off the left side of the rim. Offensive rebound. Sidney Mills puts it back up and end. There's that size advantage. Easy layers.
Starting point is 00:00:40 Still charge your basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM starts now. Hello and welcome to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. You're listening to Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball. Last home game of the year, last regular season of the game of, excuse me, last regular season game of the year for the Hillsdale Chargers. Taking on Ursuline, Erroline arrows. Ersline coming in a little bit of a cold streak. They've won in seven in their last eight, or excuse me, one in six in their last seven games. Need this one today in order to keep their conference tournament hopes alive.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Let's go to the starting lineups for the Chargers. Number 31, Ashley Conkel. Number five, the senior Sydney Mills, possibly playing our last home game. Number 23, Annalise Petrusik. Number 15, Kendall McCormick, and number three, Lauren McDonald. For the Aeros, it's the Clunin Twins. Number five, Madison Clunin. Number 20, Michaela Clunin.
Starting point is 00:01:47 number 30 Ajaya Shreffler number 24 Madison Statsbury and number 12 one second Riley Stop, sorry
Starting point is 00:02:02 number 12 Riley Stop is a starting lineup for the Ursline Arrows Ursuline comes into this game 17 and
Starting point is 00:02:13 I'm rifling through the stats here 17 and 10 overall, but they are 11 or 10 and 9 in the conference. Yeah, Ursula needs this game in order to keep their chances at making the conference tournament. This is a huge game for them because they are right on that border of making the commerce tournament. Hillsdale really wants to win this game. If they lose, there is a chance that they are the eighth seed map to go to Ashland in the very first round,
Starting point is 00:02:38 which is worst case scenario. With a win, nobody wants to play Ashland in the women's basketball. With a win, they still are probably most likely not going to hope. a game, but they will be either the five or the sixth seed, and they'll be playing either probably Treveka Nazarene or Northwood possibly. So hopefully Chargers get a win out here and keep that high seed. All right. The tip off right now is between Mills and Schreffler. Ursuline controls it. It's 20 Clunin outside. McCormick defending. Now in the hands of Schreffler, back out to Clunin. McCormick playing some tight defense.
Starting point is 00:03:17 fence to her twin sister. Down into Shreffler inside is able to get it to go on Conklin down in the low post. Warren McDonald, check that. Petrusick brings it up for the Chargers. Yeah, a little bit different here. Usually you see Lauren McDonald playing point guard, but we have Annalise Petrzik starting point guard for the Chargers today as McDonald is out on the wing. McCormick has it outside, past the Petrusik. Top of the key, gets it inside the lane to Mills.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Mills gets the little jump shot to go. That's two points for the Chargers. Yeah, it was a nice find there. By Petruszik, I'm at cut by Sidney Mills. Madison has it outside. Hand off to Statsbury. Statsbury driving in the lane. Try the little scoop shot, blocked by Mills.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Lauren McDonald has it off running for the Chargers. Pass to Petra Zick. She's going to take the quick three-pointer and get it to go. Yep, Hillsdale. Great job. there with the numbers. Number 24, Madeline Madison Statsbury was still running back and
Starting point is 00:04:23 he was still able to find the open man in the five on four. Stop has it now for the arrows. Hand off to Clunin. Michaela, that is. Michaela, step back. Long two point shot. No good. Rebound Mills. Gets into
Starting point is 00:04:39 to McDonald, brings it up. Long pass up to McCormick. She's got it in transition. Oh, but the layup is no good. Rebound Ursuline. There's a great pass and a great catch there just unable to fish on finish on the open layout clunin has it outside slowing things down now starts to dribble trying to back her way in turn around inside to shreffler shreffler finishes again that's two back but two baskets for her five four hillsdale leads it mcdonald now the ball handler out to mccormick threatens to drive gives it
Starting point is 00:05:19 Mills back to McDonald. Screen from Mills. McDonald, able to get in the lane and finish with the left hand. Nice finish there from Lauren McDonald. Yeah, great touch there by Lauren McDonald. Had to wrap it kind of a round in order to get that shot off, but able to get the little finger roll and roll the ball in. Stop has it.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Top of the key. A little hand off to Statsbury. Out to Clunin. Cross court pass to Statsbury. Takes the three. No good. Chargers unable to get the rebound. Earthline controls it. Another three-point attempt.
Starting point is 00:05:52 That one no good as well. Mills controls the rebound, gets it off to McDonald. Petrus Zick has it. Post-feet into Conkel. Pass tipped and lost. Ursuline has it. That's a turnover for the Chargers. Stop with a little behind-the-back.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Dribble move. Able move, able to get into the lane, but no good. Good defense there from Sidney Mills. Yeah, it was a great move originally by stop, but I think it was a little bit selfish there for her to take the layup and not kick it out for the wide open three. Ursuline whiffs on a steel attempt.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Chargers get an open look out of it but can't capitalize. Ursuline with a rebound, they're running. Clunin has it outside. Pass to her sister. Post feed. No good. Out to Shreffler. She's out on the perimeter.
Starting point is 00:06:48 A little screen. Clunin takes the three off the screen. No good. Rebound features it. She's bringing it up for the Chargers. This little dribble move of her own. Gets it out to McDonald, shot fake. Drive ball stolen by Clunin.
Starting point is 00:07:03 May have numbers here, not anymore. Kenna McCormick back into the picture. Ooh, and they're going to call a shooting foul on Annalise Petrusick. Yeah, I think Petrizzak got the clean ball there, but I think they're calling her for the lower body contact. Yeah, I think it was more about with the body. I don't think she made any contact with the hand of the arm. She was blocking that shot a little two-handed block.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Yeah. Put up both hands there. I don't know. I've ever seen that before. in basketball. Got both hands on it and then throw it down. Both hands up. Maybe what started as a shot contest turned into a block attempt as the first free throw is good for Clooning.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Five minutes, 57 seconds left in this first period. Chargers lead it seven to five. Caitlin Splain checking into the game for the first time as well as Savannah Smith. Donald has a little bit of pressure here from Erseline off the inbound. not much. Chargers, able to get it across half court, no problem. Ball inside, high post to Smith, kicks it out to Mills.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Now to Petrozek. McDonald, run around trying to get something. Petrersick dribbles into the lane, kicks it out to Splane. Splane, cross court pass to Mills, post feed. It's Petrusick inside the post. Little turnaround jump shot. What a move from Petruszick.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Right there, calm, under pressure, able to get enough separation and get that shot off, and then the shot was just very clean from her. We used to seeing her knock down shots from the perimeter not go to work down in the post. That was a great move. Coonan has it outside for the arrows. Driving left side.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Gets in the lane. Shot is no good. Offensive rebound. Oh, then they lose it. Sidney Mills has it. McDonald's skip pass up to Splane. Splane trying to force the issue. Gives it to Smith.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Takes the three, no good. Rebound Shreffler. Clunin brings it up. Nobody's ready. for the pass over there. She had three players, but nobody was looking for the ball. Luckily, they save it. Stop has it now for the arrows. Top of the
Starting point is 00:09:07 key, trying to set things up on offense. Bounce pass to Clunin. Now she has it up top. Back to stop. Stop trying to get into the pain area. Not much doing. Kicks it out to Statsbury. Statsbury gets inside. A little step-through shot. No good, but
Starting point is 00:09:23 Clunin's there for the offensive rebound and a quick putback. That was number five Madison, Clunin. Yeah, that's second or third time that Ercelain's been able to sneak under and get some offensive rebounds. He'll still got to do a better job either boxing out or just knowing where those players are in space. Chargers lead nine eight coming up on four minutes left. Lauren McDonald has it on the wing. Bounce pass inside to Mills inside out to Smith. Smith drives it puts a shot up nice little floater there there. Good touch from Savannah Smith. Yeah she split the two defenders, her defender and the defender who's
Starting point is 00:09:53 trying to play help defense and able to get a wide up and floater there out of it. Good shooting so far for the Chargers. Statsbury has it outside. Clunin coming around to her sister. A little face up here. Petrus Zick swats at the ball gets a piece of it, but Clunuch controls it. Hands it off to her sister.
Starting point is 00:10:15 These two are a huge part of this team. Another step-back jump shot, no good. Tough rebound from Sidney Mills. Got it to Splane. Splane's running. Gets it back to Mills, back to Petrazik. Smith has an open look in the corner. She takes it for three, and it's good.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Two straight baskets for Savannah Smith. Hot start off the bench. And it's the end one. They're going to call a foul here on the shot. Fowl on the shot. Maybe we had a foul away from the ball. Good stuff from hers. We're going to go to a quick media time out.

Starting point is 00:12:37 Savannah Smith just completed the four-point play for the Chargers. Chargers now lead at 15 to 8, with three minutes, 15 seconds left in this first period. First line with the ball now. And we're going to get a foul away from the ball. Calls on number two. Danny Holbein just checked in for the Chargers. foul under the basket clunin was trying to get free that'll be the second team foul on the chargers first line inbounding underneath the basket gets it into number 12 stop stop into clunin clunin has it in the pain around the free throw line trying to go to work down there a little turnaround move no good wanted a foul didn't get it Lauren macdonald has it for the chargers clunin offering a lot of pressure gets out of it mills
Starting point is 00:13:29 has it quickly to spain back to McDonald. Yeah, it was a good move there by Clunin, but I mean, there was really good defense, and I don't know why she took that shot anyway. She thought that maybe after the move she'd fall apart. Usually that move works, but on that time it was not working. I thought it was a little too aggressive. And she got the shot anyways.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Maybe a shot that you would take if the shot clock was running down, but not one they needed to take there. As Sidney Mills draws a foul on the other end, not a shooting foul on the floor, Chargers inbounding. Smith has it outside. Gets it to McDonald. McDonald, deep three-point shot, and it's good.
Starting point is 00:14:08 What a great shot from Lauren McDonald. Look like Caitlin Clark out there. She was so far from the line. Yeah, really, really deep three-pointer from Lauren McDonald, but, I mean, when you make it, your coach can't be that upset, right? Yeah, she's got the green light. Ball inside.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Ooh. Ursuline loses it out of bounds, throws it back into the Chargers. Fast break here. Opportunity for the Chargers and Mills capitalizes. A little pull-up three in transition. We're not settling for two points today. It's three or nothing. Three-point land for the Hillsdale Chargers today.
Starting point is 00:14:43 Great shooting start for the Chargers up. 21 to 8 with two minutes left. We're going to go to a quick break. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. The benefits of playing multiple sports from the youth level through high school are being proven even by those who've made it to the so-called next level. More college coaches want multi-sport athletes, and nearly 90% of the players taken in the recent pro football draft played multiple sports through high school. Helping an opponent up after knocking them down? sincerely congratulating the other team after the game, win or lose. Showing respect for referees, it's how we should act every day at every game because nothing beats good sportsmanship.
Starting point is 00:15:42 To learn more about sportsmanship, visit the MHSAA website, a message from the Michigan High School Athletic Association, promoting the value and values of educational athletics. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. Charge of women's basketball taken on Earthline today. and come right in live on the action Ursline with the ball three point shot
Starting point is 00:16:05 that's their first three-pointer of the day to go and that was really really good shot there because there were only two or three seconds left on the shot clock so not only to get the shot off but to hit it a little bit desperate but pretty good look that late in the shot clock is number two menser albine has it now for the chargers
Starting point is 00:16:22 pass to Splane Splane drives across the court kicks it to Mills Mills back to Splane sets a screen slips it pretty quick oh shot Block, big time block from stop. Ursuline off and running. Thinks about the three.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Doesn't take it. Kuhn. Kluen. Back to Minch in the corner. Lynch has it outside. Splane, guarding, kicks it to Kloonan. Clunin into her sister. Turn around, fade away in the lane. No good.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Chargers. Off and running. Splane. Sort of slowly feeling things out. Now it's just Sidney Panasic. Checked into the game for the first time. Conkhol has it now on top of the key. Panasik in the corner.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Post-feed to Hallby. Nice move from Hallbine to shake the defender loose and get a nice little easy bucket right there. Yeah, Ersson, trying to get the jump, trying to get the steel there, but Halbyn kind of boxed her out and able to get a wide-open lay-up out of it. Good move from Hallbine.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Quick three-point attempt from Ursuline. No good. Oh, but the Chargers lose it out of bounds after the rebound. Yeah, Panasic. Panasic defender or offender fell the player playing against Panasic and so Conco tried to find her but the did miscommunication between the two and the ball just rolls behind her and rolls out of bounds.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Yep. Tough on the outlet pass there. It would be your sline ball down on their end. Ball into Clunin on the wing kicks it back up to her sister. These two are a huge part of this offense. Seems like the ball is usually in their hands. Clunin here. Find things out.
Starting point is 00:18:05 All stolen by Splane, but out of bounds again. Yeah, going to be 2.2 seconds left for Ersson. They get a basket here at the end of this first quarter. Chargers lead at 2311. They've got to get this ball in and shoot it quick. Two, one, deep three point attempt. Air ball, no good. After one, the Chargers lead it, 23 to 11.
Starting point is 00:18:30 You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. We're going to go to short media timeout. Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time. I'm Lauren Smith, and today we're going to talk about one of my favorite grammatical mistakes, dangling modifiers. Consider the sentence, exhausted after school, even coffee couldn't keep me awake. You probably know exactly what I mean, so at least it's clear, but it's also pretty grammatically wonky. That long modifier at the beginning of the sentence, exhausted after. school is clearly supposed to be modifying I, but it actually modifies the subject coffee,
Starting point is 00:19:09 which if you think about it doesn't make any sense. Can coffee even get tired? The key here is to remember that when you have a dangling modifier at the beginning of a sentence, it will usually modify the subject of the following clause. So you could reword this to say, exhausted after school, I couldn't stay awake even after drinking a huge cup of coffee. And that would be correct. That's your grammar minute. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. We're listening to Hillsdale Women Charger Basketball taken on Earth's line today. Chargers off to a great start in this one,
Starting point is 00:19:49 leading 23 to 11 after the first period. They're shooting the ball extremely well. Looks like we're four of six from three-pointers, shooting 66%. I see that's pretty good, Evan. That is really good. And we are 9 of 13 overall. So shooting 70% on the game as a whole. Great shooting here from Hillsdale very early on.
Starting point is 00:20:13 And I don't know that, but they're getting open looks. None of these three-pointers have been even really slightly contested. Some of them have been in transition. They've been quick, but they haven't been contested. They've been hitting open shots. Chargers have it here to start the second. Lauren McDonald outside. Pass to Kendall McCormick.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Gets it into Mills and the high post, trying to get the high low going. Not there. kicks it out to McDonald. McDonald drives out to Mills. Another open three-point. Look, and it's good again. When it rains, it pours, right? Exactly.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Hillsdale, now shooting five for seven from three on the day. And Ersson, in a big deficit really early here. Chargers are going to keep shooting it until they miss. Ersline has it now outside. Ball into Shreffler in the high post, gets it down to the corner, back to Shreffler inside. Tough shot, fade away, no good. All goes out of bounds.
Starting point is 00:21:06 It's going to be Hillsdale ball. Yeah, it was some good defense there by Conkall. Got her body into her a little bit before the shot went up and didn't give her any open space. Gtreffler might be used to pushing people around. It's a little bit harder going against Ashley Conkill. Yeah. Both very physical players. Mills has it outside hand off to Petrusz.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Pechersick. A little fadeaway shot from the short corner. It goes again. She just can't miss right now. No, and she is just dominating inside the peaches. paint today, not just outside of it. Getting her points much close to the basket than we're used to sing.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Menser has it outside. Pass to Michaela. Clunin, that is. Inside to Madison. We're just going to go Michaela and Madison for the rest of the game. As the ball stolen by the Chargers. McCormick, a lot of pressure from Michaela, but she breaks it. Out to McDonald. Petersick in the corner. Shot fake. Drives.
Starting point is 00:22:02 Right hand, no good. Concoe with the offense. of rebound and the put back that one is good. Chargers is now up 30 to 11. Petruszik had her beat on the dribble but I think she got a little bit excited after making so many shots that she just thought that she could just throw that one up. Maybe a little bit of a heat check there in the paint.
Starting point is 00:22:18 But still a great drive and a great rebound got Ashley Cockwell. Mincer has it dribbling baseline almost lost it. First line saves the ball. Madison has it up top. Drive and spin move. Nice shot there from around the free throw line. off the spin move. They're able to get the shot off before the help was able to come in.
Starting point is 00:22:40 30 to 13 now. Lauren McDonald has it outside. Handoff Mills. Petrusick now with the ball. McCormick in the corner, post-feed to Conkel. Chinsett goes to work. Spin move, no good. First line rebound.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Skip pass up to Michaela. Back to Madison. Madison tries. Oh, going to be. an offensive foul moving screen on Shreffler number 30 yeah she shifted her weight
Starting point is 00:23:13 too much and falling over on that screen is something that you just can't do less of a screen more of a bump there on her leg a tackle she's a little bit of a moving but just a little push push her out of the way
Starting point is 00:23:25 yeah more of a push than the screen Chargers leave 30 to 13 7 minutes 22 seconds left in the second period Splaine has it on the wing inside to Petrusik again out to Smith for three and it's good again. So a little roll reversal there. Petrusick had the ball in the post,
Starting point is 00:23:45 kicked it out to Smith for three. Yeah, Petrusick, great job there too. That was a tough pass to catch and she fought for it and able to catch it and kick it out for three. Good job handling Statsbury. A little bounce pass inside to stop. Stop with a turnaround, left-handed shot.
Starting point is 00:24:02 No good gets her own rebound and he's able to finish with the left hand the second time. Yeah, Splein. somebody who's a little bit taller than they're playing some great defense but unable to to get the rebound after the missed shot. Tight not working to do it advantage there. This plane has it on the offensive end. Out to McDonald.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Another three. And it's good again. Surprise, surprise. This might be the best shooting I've seen from this team all season. First line waste no time trying to get the hoop. Lay up. No good. Clunin stays fighting after the miss and bats the ball.
Starting point is 00:24:37 ball out of bounds it'll stay with the chargers. I think Clunin wanted the ball to go their way and maybe it did. Maybe the ref missed the last touch by Hillsdale there. Yeah, got to be frustrating if you're a line out there. Playing against the team that's shooting the ball this well, I feel like this game has gotten away from you in a hurry. 36 to 15.
Starting point is 00:24:56 We still have six minutes to play in the second quarter. Yeah, Hillsdale's shooting 78% from the three point line. That's unheard of. Spanah Smith, up top to Spain. Splane wants to get in on the party. No good. It's the first missed three in a while. First line off and running.
Starting point is 00:25:12 Madison Clunin kicks it up to Statsbury. Statsbury handoff to stop. Stop trying to go to work. Kicks it out to Madison. Madison, step back, doesn't take the shot. Gets it inside to stop. A little step through. Oh, okay, no double juggle there.
Starting point is 00:25:30 You'd say ball was touched. Lost it anyway. McDonald has it now. Another tip pass. And the ball's going to go out of back. stay with Hillsdale. Ursuline being very aggressive on ball defense. Yeah, I think they're really, really frustrated with how this game is going at the moment,
Starting point is 00:25:45 with how well Hillsdale is shooting, first of all. And then second of all, with just how much you're down by, I mean, all the bounces seem to be going Hillsdale's way right now, and they're sick of it. Especially in a game that they need to keep their conference tournament, hopes alive. Splane has it outside, past the Holbein, near the corner. Post feet into Smith. Smith, Smith wastes no time with a little reverse layup, left hand,
Starting point is 00:26:12 gets it to go. Great move there by Smith. And Erselin forced to call another timeout. As we're going to go to immediate timeout, you're listening to Radio Free Hostdale, 101.1.1.7th. Welcome to the old ball game, where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime.
Starting point is 00:26:29 I'm Tate Christensen. Today we talk about the first night game played in the MLB. In 1935, the Cincinnati Reds were a struggling. team. They could hardly draw a crowd, averaging about 2,000 fans per game. The idea was presented to bring lights to Cincinnati's Crawley Field in attempt to bring more fans to the game. They thought that bringing in these lights would help the games to be played in the evening or at night, so that people could come when they were off work. On May 24, 1935, a crowd of 20,422 fans gathered to watch the game between the Reds and the Phillies. From Washington, D.C., Franklin D. Roosevelt
Starting point is 00:27:02 flipped the ceremonial switch, and lights turned on in Cincinnati, and the game was played. The Reds beat the Phillies 2 to 1 that night, and later in 1935, seven more night games were held in Cincinnati. Night games were later expanded to other teams in other cities. This has been the old ball game on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. You're listening to Hillsdale Women's Basketball. Chargers taking on the erstline arrows today.
Starting point is 00:27:35 It's been kind of start you dream about in a basketball game. They're up 38 to 15. Not yet at five minutes left in the second period, and the chargers are just shooting the lights out of the building today. Yeah, shooting 70% from the three-point line, shooting better from outside the three-point line than they are from inside of it. We'll see if they can keep that up the rest of the game. That's hard to do.
Starting point is 00:27:58 That is really hard to do. I don't really think that they need to. I mean, they've held Ersselin to only 15 points thus far, and I think that's been the story of the game. Not just great offense, but also great defense. Ersline with the ball here. Madison, clinton outside. crossover move gets in no good gets her own rebound tough shot put back she gets it
Starting point is 00:28:16 that has been the only thing that hillstone has not done well today they've not rebounded defensively to the wilderback yeah a lot quite a few offensive rebounds to the arrows albine has it uses the screen kicks it back out to panacek panosic to emma ruleman ruleman uses the screen and off to smith thinks about the three doesn't take it now the Splane. Shot clock running down. throws up a deep three. No good. Rebound Holbein puts it up. I think we're going to get a shot clock violation here
Starting point is 00:28:47 because the ball never touched the rim. So a couple of offensive rebounds on shots that never touched the rim and Hillsdale earns a shot clock violation. Yeah, Splane tried to try to get back the shot clock by shooting a deep three with six seconds left from the
Starting point is 00:29:04 shot clock, but unfortunately too short in Hillsdale able to grab the useless rebound. Menser has it up top for the arrows hand off to clunin clunin deep two point shot off the front of the rim no good rebound ruleman gets it up to panassick panasic still with it kicks it over to spain spain driving left side inside pass to halbyne what a great find from kathletl spain and danny holbeye for two points amazing pass there two players in sync a stop gets down here quick tries to score first line no good rebound spleen bringing it up for the chargers out to panassic now smith smith no hesitation under three it's good again
Starting point is 00:29:46 savannah smith have a day yeah lights out today she currently has has 10 points has she missed i'm not sure that she's missed shot she missed one three she missed her first three-point in the day she missed one okay so she just needed one to feel it out oh getting it done on the defensive end but they're going to call a foul the block was all ball it must have been a foul with the body I think they're going to call a foul on the trailing player, not on Smith. It was not on Smith? No. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:18 You got a better eye than me yet. Yeah, the foul. Oh, no, they did call a foul on Smith. It was on Smith. I think maybe she got her with a kick out of the leg or? It was a very clean block. It was a very clean block up top. The charges were very excited about it.
Starting point is 00:30:32 Yeah. Number three. Kaylee Minch at the line for the arrows. She makes the first free throw. Chargers up 43 to 18, 3 and a half minutes left in this first half. Savannah Smith having a great game. Yeah, I'm going to guess. A number of other chargers.
Starting point is 00:30:51 This is her career high, though, with 14 points and she leads the chargers. 14 points. Three for four from three, including an and one three-pointer. Yeah, we're not even at halftime yet. Mills has it. They break the little press. Smith wants it underneath the basket. Oh, this is going to be the easiest bucket of the day for a little turnaround layup,
Starting point is 00:31:09 and there was nobody there. Yeah. Great fine there. Great ball placement by Cindy Mills. What happens, though? You run the risk of that happening when you're repressing on defense. We're trying to half-court trap. You find players wide open. Clunin has it, kicks it out to her sister.
Starting point is 00:31:25 Trying to get inside the lane. Chargers making it so difficult. They steal the ball. Splane off and running. Quick pass to Mills. Mills finishes inside with a chance for a three-point play. This team is playing. with incredible energy right now.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Some great original help defense. And then on the runback from Emma Rulman, she pokes the ball out, Splane, dribbles it down. And then she gets double-team with the stop and finds Sidney Mills, wide open under the basket. All they can do is foul, and Sydney Mills is able to finish through the contact of the foul. Just regardless of who's in the court right now, you see five players totally in sync and moving very fast.
Starting point is 00:32:05 As Mills completes the three-point play, score now 48 to 19 we're not at half time yet yeah this is the most complete game hills has probably played all year which is a great time to get hot right before the tournament absolutely olivia patch in the game senior for the first time as ursline tries the three of their own no good splain has it a lot of pressure from the clunin twins and there's going to be a foul fouls on number 20 macaela those two very aggressive trying to get the ball back as especially after the initial defensive rebound for Hillsdale. Trying to get those cheap steals down on this end.
Starting point is 00:32:44 Mills has it for the charger. Chargers. Now McCormick. Screen for Mills. McCormick at the top of the key, kicks it over to Panasik in the wing. Splane takes a three-pointer from the top of the key off the screen. No goal. A rebound patch.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Oh, she lost it. Now Clunin has it. Is running for the arrows. Backs out. Oh, tries to get to. the pass but it's stolen again by spain really good defense here from the chargers continuing splain off and running tries to get the pass that one is stolen it'll be macaela plunin for the layup on the left side and it's good some fast break points there for the arrows yeah just unfortunate the
Starting point is 00:33:26 way that spleen turned it over that she had the wide open layup had so much space and so much time and so much momentum on everybody nobody there to try to catch up McCormick has it on the wing to bounce pass. It's an inside to Mills. Mills inside out pass to Panossack. Oh, ball stripped again. Ursuline has it. Another fast break. This time it's Madison Clooning. And that one is good too. So two quick layups, layups off of turnovers for the arrows. There are going to need a lot of that to get back in this game. Yeah, Hillslow got to be very careful here. Not to turn the ball over too many times in a row. Get some, get back into the rhythm, get some shots off again. Yeah, let's end this half clean. Panasic has it outside, gets it to
Starting point is 00:34:05 displaying off the screen. Turn around. No shot out to Panasic. She takes a three. No good off the front of the rim. Rebound Mills. Mills has it inside. No good ball tipped out again to McCormick. To Splane, she takes a three.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Now it's good. You get enough offensive rebounds. Eventually it's going to go in. Yeah, some great rebounding there by all the chargers. The original charger always touched the ball was never the one to get the rebound. They tipped it to a teammate. Some great unselfish play by a whole team. Ursuline has it outside.
Starting point is 00:34:33 It's stop. Stop. Gets in the lane. Tries to finish the left down. Big block from Patch. Hatch sends it back and Caitlin Splean off and running. Tries to find McCormick under the basket, but the ball is stolen. Now Statsbury running first line the other way.
Starting point is 00:34:46 Her layup, no good. Rebound Pannostic. Splaine said, hey, let's slow this down. Yeah, 26 seconds left on the shot clock and probably like 0.1 seconds separating the shot in the game clock is they're going to look to get the last shot of the game. She's saying we got a 28. What happened then? She didn't get across the half.
Starting point is 00:35:05 10 second? 10 second violation. 10 second violation. took a little bit too much time. She didn't have any pressure. She must not have been paying enough attention then. Well, I said she needed to slow things down. Not that much.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Chargers lead. 51 to 23. 18 seconds left in the first half. I'd imagine Ursuline's going to hold it for the last shot here. Try to cut into this deficit. Clunin has it up top. Bounce pass to stop. Back out to Minch.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Now over to stop. will dribble setup. Madison has it. Defense all over her, and that's it. They won't get the shot off. Shot is good, but did not get it off in time. So at halftime, your score is Hillsdale 51, erstline 23.
Starting point is 00:35:54 One-a-half of the charges is we'll go to a halftime break. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale. Oh, squeeze Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM, listening to Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball. If you miss the first half, well, Evan, fill them in. What they miss? Hillsdale shooting absolutely lights out basketball today.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Having a great game on both ends, really. Hillsdale, up 51 to 23. Savannah Smith, leading the team with 16 points, including three, three-pointers and one of them. She got the end one, making it a four-point play. Sidney Mills also has double digits, having 11 points and seven rebound. for Sidney Mills.
Starting point is 00:36:40 The already leading historic Hillsdale rebounder just broke that record a couple weeks ago. Yep. Overall, Hill still playing a great game defensively. I mean, Ursulim does only have 23 points. There are quite a few players missing from Erselin's team.
Starting point is 00:36:56 Just not here today. There are five players who are regularly on the roster who are not there. There are a couple players on the sideline who we believe are just injured players. But there's a couple players who just are not here because we're not have enough for the team.
Starting point is 00:37:10 So Erselin may be down a couple players, including one possible starter in Alexis for Z. So it's been a really rough day for Ersson all around. Erslan getting frustrated at times. All that being said, though, feels like they can have a first half that good. It's possible that they could turn things around and close the gap. Ursuline has it first here.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Start the second half. Statsbury outside, trying to get it inside to Shreffler, drives baseline cross-court pass to stop stop it'll bounce out to clunin clunin out to her sister in the corner three-point shot no good and ursline gets the offensive rebound back to clunin behind the back dribble move gets inside flips it up bounce around no good almost another offensive rebound another fighting for it on the floor ball pops out shreffler picks it up shot is no good and there will be a foul on the shot i believe leave. Yeah, too many offensive rebounds. Once again, like I said in the first half, the one thing that Ursulin has outdone Hillsdale in is Hillstall has not rebounded well
Starting point is 00:38:14 defensively. Nerselan able to get a lot of offensive rebounds. It's that Hillsdale just isn't finding the players that they're supposed to be boxing out. Also is unaware of where Erselin's players are, when the shot goes up, and that Erselin is just kind of sneaking under him, but the ball is kind of popping up and falling right into their hands. So yeah, it's a little bit of luck if the ball is bouncing towards them. But Hillsdale, it has to be able to To counteract that by boxing out. Shreffler splits the free throws at the line. Score now 51-24 Chargers lead.
Starting point is 00:38:47 Ball into Conklin in the post. Face up, drives baseline, backs down, and gets a tough bucket. Nice move there from Ashley Conkull. Up top to Shreffler. Hand off. Stop. Clunin has it now. bringing it across court over to her sister in the corner drives behind the back move loses the ball saves it gets it to her sister inside stop little reverse layup and it's good
Starting point is 00:39:20 Lauren McDonald has the ball a little bit of pressure here from ersline back into conkel loses it stolen by clunin Madison clunin bounce pass up to her sister hand off to statsbury three from the top of the key good this is exactly what her First line needs to get back in this game. Quick points, good looks, and steals on defense. There's a steal on the press by Stotsbury. But it has it, they have numbers. Statsbury.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Another three, this one's short, rebound conkel. Yeah, he'll still kind of slow the game down here. Unable to beat the press. I'm able to beat the press there once, and the other time they did beat the press, they weren't able to use their numbers to their advantage. Anytime you have a lead like this, you run the risk of sort of falling into a,
Starting point is 00:40:14 lull and not playing aggressively. Kenna McCormick drives in hard, but misses the layup. There's a great drive there once again, but just a missed layup. Statsbury has it up top. Ursuline trying to move fast. Stop, wide up open under the hoop and gets the layup. Hillsdale is going to call a timeout, and I don't blame them. No, a good call by Hillsdale.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Slow the game down. Don't let Ursuline close this gap. Ursuline already going on a little bit of run here. We're going to go to quick timeout break. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale and 101.7 FM. but come out. Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
Starting point is 00:40:51 I'm Lauren Smith, and I've clipped a line from a newspaper for your enjoyment. Here's a slightly edited version. Tom Brady's farewell year will quickly fade from our collective memories, overwhelmed by the enormity of his accomplishments over an unprecedented career. Curious about this enormity, and whether it had landed Brady in prison, I scanned the rest of the article only to discover that the author has seemingly forgotten what the word enormity actually means. You see, the news almost exclusively treats this word as though it means hugeness. The world's largest airplane, for example, was recently
Starting point is 00:41:24 described as an enormity, but it actually means enormous evil. Here's a fun way to spend a Saturday. Enter Enormity into Google and click the news tab. Not only will you feel exceptionally smart afterwards, but you'll quickly be overwhelmed with laughter. That's your grammar minute. Visit thegramminut.com for more tips and tricks. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Listening to Hillsdale Women's Basketball, Chargers lead 53 to 31, but a little bit of a rough start to the second half. They've allowed Ursuline to score a couple of points unanswered here.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Yeah, outscoring the Chargers so far, 8 to 2. Hillsdale called a timeout, wanted to regroup, sort of reset the focus here. Yeah, it'll be inbounding. and Ursuline will be pressing. Mills has it. Over to McDonald. Back over to Mills.
Starting point is 00:42:20 Nice job beating the press there. It's in their own side. McDonald has it outside. Inside pass to McCormick. McCormick quick little dish off to Mills and Mills will miss the shot but she's fouled. Yeah, able to beat the press there but still a little bit of questionable. Ursula's just been able to get traps on.
Starting point is 00:42:41 Yeah. And able to get traps on Hillsdale, especially in this last pressure. Hillsdale beats the pressure. They get across half, and then once they get across half, it's like they don't know whether to take it to the basket
Starting point is 00:42:50 or to cut it back. And their indecisiveness is, it's what's causing them to have the two turnovers. Yep. As Mills makes the first free throw. And buries the second as well. Chargers up 55 to 31. First line, got to move quick.
Starting point is 00:43:09 Michaela Clunin with the ball. screen from Shreffler Funen gets inside a little pass to her sister Turn around jump shot Good really short range jump shot there This basket charges Trying to beat the press quick
Starting point is 00:43:24 McDonald has it up to Petrazek Nice job there Another trapping up in the corner And no jump ball able to get it away With patience there from Petrazik The Cornick has it now outside Over to McDonald
Starting point is 00:43:41 McDonald drives right, pull-up, jump shot, rattles around and it's good. Let's move there for McDonald. Yeah, once again, a little bit of indecisiveness from Hillsdale there, but I would say less so than the other couple drives. Down quickly on the other hand, we got a chance for a three-point play as the ball was worked inside to Riley stop,
Starting point is 00:44:00 put it up quick and took the contact. She made the basket, and we'll shoot a free throw. Chargers, five new players checking in here. It's Blaine, Ruman, Smith, Halbyn and Panasic all in the game. The five that were in and all going to sit down. Yeah, trying to get a new line. I'm trying to get something fresh out here as what they have been doing. This half has not been working. I would say Coach Brennan, maybe a little bit uneasy with the way things are going right now. You still have a 21-point lead. You know how fast I can go away in a basketball game.
Starting point is 00:44:33 Gnostic has it for the Chargers, working her way up, past his plane, cross half court, gets it to Smith. She was on fire in the first half. Now to Panosick. Woolman has it outside, looking inside, not there. Gives it to Halbyne. Hallbine drives left side. Pivot move. Nope.
Starting point is 00:44:51 Nothing there. Out to Panasic. Splane, Splean drives in the lane. Floater. Nice shot from Caitlin as the shot clock was running down. Great job there by Splein. She almost lost the basketball, but was not only able just to get to control, but able to make the shot. We got a quick offensive foul on the other end.
Starting point is 00:45:07 on Madison Clunin the push as she was drove in spun and said she pushed off on the spin A lot of the time refs will let you get away with the little elbow push but but there she had the full arm extended and great job by Kenna McCormick selling it
Starting point is 00:45:24 I think they may have given her a little bit of a warning afterwards she was talking the ref as the charges quickly beat the press and Caitlin gets free for a layup nice job by Splane there that's what you want to see when you do beat the press that decisiveness right there just because you got a big lead doesn't know you can't stop scoring is ursline
Starting point is 00:45:40 gets a quick bucket of their own that's macaela clunin able to get inside and get a little layup yeah so that ursulin did the entire first half was they drove the ball down there very quickly but but hillslin never had any problems in the first half so i never really talked about it as smith finds herself in a tough spot along the baseline tried to throw it off a player out of bounds unsuccessful ursline gets the steel it's riley stopped driving hard and she's going to be found by a hallbine Riley stopped shooting two free throws for Ursuline. The pace has been fast this whole game,
Starting point is 00:46:13 but they seem to be taken into another level here in the second half. Both teams running up and down the court. That's what Ursuline wants. They want to... Yeah, I would say I think that placed Ursulins advantage. Yeah. They want to get things moving. They want to get the charges, putting up quick shots.
Starting point is 00:46:29 Because time is the enemy for them. The stop makes the first free throw. score now Hillsdale 61 Ursuline 39 5 minutes 14 to play in the third period second free throw also good sorry Evan go ahead Hillsdale just plays better under control than Ursuline does ericely does
Starting point is 00:46:44 Erselin depends on that that quick movement quick traps defensively even too yep and Hilsail does Roman has it top of the key tries to drive left and she's fouled by Michaela Kloonan on the floor but once again,
Starting point is 00:47:05 you see how aggressive Ursuline is. Anytime a player picks up their dribble, they're going at the ball. As we're going to a quick media timeout, you're listening to Charge Your Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Starting point is 00:48:23 Listening to Hillsdale Women's basketball. Chargers lead 61 to 40 with five minutes to play in the third period. Great game for them offensively and defensively in the first half. got out to a huge lead. Ursula, able to cut into it a little bit here in the second half. They're outscoring the Chargers 16 to 10, but still quite a mountain to climb. 21 points here, and we got 15 minutes left of gameplay.
Starting point is 00:48:48 Yeah, it was that early time when they went on an 8-0 run that really Ursula is still banking on. Blaine has it outside, pass to Smith. Smith gets it to Holbein in the corner. Nothing there, dribbles back towards the middle, back to Splain, shot clock running down. Panasic puts up a deep three. No good.
Starting point is 00:49:10 And we're going to have a loose ball foul on number 40 M. Aulman. Yeah, good job fighting for the rebound. I think it probably was a foul, but it's one that you can get away with sometimes. And when you get the offense rebound there, it's very beneficial. Well, like you said,
Starting point is 00:49:25 Hillsdale struggled to rebound a little bit in this game, more so on the other end, the defensive end. But you can excuse. I don't think aggressiveness going for a rebound or foul. I don't think so. I don't I don't think so. Ursuline has it. Top of the key. Riley's stop.
Starting point is 00:49:44 Hand off to Stompberry. Statsbury drives in. Left hand layup. Good. Good offensive start for Statsbury. She's got a couple of baskets. As Erslan will continue to press, Chargers doing a better job against it now. They beat it pretty easily. Wilman has it outside. Passed
Starting point is 00:50:03 Splane for three, it's good. Open up the three-point shooting, maybe again for Hills still in the second half like they had in the first half. Ursuline certainly hopes not. Splane kind of struggled to get going scoring in the first half. I think that's her first. It's her second three-pointer of the game. As Minch answers with a three of her own for the arrows. Now 64 to 45.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Chargers beat the press again. Panasic has it. stolen she didn't see the defender there popped out of nowhere intercepted it as Statsbury runs down on the other end can't get the layup to go and Danny Holbein is fouled on the rebound yeah that'll be fouling number three for Michaela clunin micha clunin yes and so putting her in a little bit of foul trouble here in this third quarter as mills mcdonald and conco will check back into the game Uelman smith and panostic take a breather charge Rogers up 64 to 45, three and a half minutes left in the third period.
Starting point is 00:51:08 Inbound to McDonald. Less pressure here from Earth's line. Harters get across half court. Ball of Displaine, post speed to conkel. Nice bounce pass to a cutting mills. No good. McDonald able to get the rebound and over the back foul called on number 24 Statsbury. Yeah, it was a good job there by McDonald.
Starting point is 00:51:32 And I think that even if they wouldn't have called the foul, she was going to score that. I think she would have too. And she'll be shooting. We're now in the bonus. So she'll be shooting two free throws. Also really nice play from Ashley Conkel there. Nice bounce pass to find a cutting teammate. Great bounce pass.
Starting point is 00:51:54 Chargers have moved the ball well this whole game. As McDonald makes the second free throw. And Danny Holbein will sit down as Petrizik checks in. She's had a nice game. To Menzer brings it up, handoff to Statsbury. Out to Clunin. Back to Statsbury. Statsbury, driving underneath the basket,
Starting point is 00:52:24 kicks it out to Minch. Minch for three. No good. It's short. Running down the rebound to Statsbury. She saves it just before the half-court line. Clunin has it. A little give-and-go move.
Starting point is 00:52:36 And the ball will be kicked out of a ball. bounds it'll stay with ursline and believe it was spain who got a foot on it yeah it was it was it was splain spleen trying to intercept the pass just kind of sticks her leg out so you can get bounced but unfortunately bounce not a bounce good play there by spain though it'll be macaela clunin inbounding for the arrows Statsbury shreffler minch and menser on the floor gets it into minch over to statsbury back to minch dribbles around step back three short again and almost a rebound from Splaine
Starting point is 00:53:23 but she loses it out of bounds I think she thinks she was pushed but no foul it'll be Ursuline ball Splane going to sit down Kendall McCormick coming into the game Pass into Michaela Clunin Almost stolen there by McCormick Almost stolen McCormick excellent defender and that one is stolen She loses it
Starting point is 00:53:47 McDonald gets the ball handoff to McCormick back to McDonald. We're down on the Chargers offensive end now. Post feed to Conkle. She's feeling it out. Turn around shot left hand. Nice move there for Concoe for the basket. Yeah, left hand.
Starting point is 00:54:05 It kind of hook shot right there on a little spin move. A lot of patience too. You could see she was waiting for maybe something to set up, find a shot for a teammate, but eventually just took it herself. Mitch has it. McDonald defending. Pass to Statsbury, almost lost. She saves it. McCormick on defense.
Starting point is 00:54:23 She's hard to get around. Moves her feet so quickly. Mills outside on Clunin. Screen from Shreffler. They're going to switch it. Conkel on her. Shreffler inside. Mills with a big block. They got the ball inside the Shreffler. He thought maybe they had a mismatch.
Starting point is 00:54:42 But it wasn't so. No, Mills had the block. It because of the shot clock. Violation. Because no, never touched the rim. Maybe he'll still basketball. That you are. A second shot clock violation of this game.
Starting point is 00:54:54 And we see the press again from our slide. McDonald's throwing it into McCormick. Trying to get a trap situation. Let's see if the Chargers can pass out of it. So far, so good. Back to McDonald. Nice job. Got it across half court.
Starting point is 00:55:08 Number one, Peyton Adkins checked into the game for the first time. McCormick has it outside. Ball now in the hands of Atkins. Down to McDonald. McDonald takes a quick three and gets it to go. Another three-pointer for the Chargers. Once again, Hillstone still shooting lights out. Even in their little bit of offensive and defensive
Starting point is 00:55:28 and defensive struggles, shooting has not been a problem for them all day. Yeah, they've been more patient on offense, but still shooting the ball very well. Chargers lead down 70 to 45 with a minute left in this third period. Ball knocked out of bounds. It'll stay with Ersline. I believe it was Kenna McCormick, getting a piece of it.
Starting point is 00:55:47 Minch will throw it in for the arrows. Gets it into Menser. over to Shreffler Shreffler looking inside can't do it now Madison Kloonan now gets it in to stop inside no good and a late foul late foul called on the shot of McDonald's she can't believe it but
Starting point is 00:56:05 it will be Riley stopped shooting two free throws for the arrows yeah it was a really really late foul call there kind of after she had passed and after the ball had already got out of there I thought that she had the clean block but prep has a better angle than I do as a player you always wonder if they wait
Starting point is 00:56:21 to see if the basket was made to call a foul. Sometimes if they make that shot they won't call a foul, but as soon as the referee sees that they miss it, they call a foul. At least as a player, that's what you think. When it's going against you. Definitely, definitely a consideration in their head based on how late that foul foul was. Riley stopped knocks down both the free throws.
Starting point is 00:56:39 And we have a stoppage here from the officials. Not sure what it's about. No, they're talking it over. They're going to discuss something. And they're leaving the third official out of it. Poor guy. Look at him. Now, he's coming over.
Starting point is 00:56:55 why didn't I get an invitation? Nope, now he's going to stop. I don't think anybody knows what this is about. We're talking it over at the table. Is there an issue with the clock, perhaps? I don't really know. I was thinking numbers.
Starting point is 00:57:15 It's all speculation right now. We're just guessing over here. We don't know. They don't know. I don't even think the players or the coaches know. Yeah, game clock problems. It was a clock issue. A little discrepancy between the shot and game clock.
Starting point is 00:57:37 They will... Well, they're going to reset it. So they took a couple seconds off the shot clock. Okay, so now it's 54 seconds left with 27 seconds on the shot clock. Bad we got that figured out. McDonald has it. Top of the key for the chargers. Over to McCormick.
Starting point is 00:57:54 McDonald gets free off a screen, drives right hand. bounce pass inside to Adkins he was cutting she loses it stop has it now ursline going the other way she drives right at the defender pass to the corner it's menser menser back to stop inside to shreffler shrefler out to minch for three short we've seen her miss that three point shot short a few times from that spot and the ball rolls out of bounds possession hillsdale
Starting point is 00:58:23 that's what she's looks to do though every single time that she's gotten that ball shoot that same exact three-pointer. As stop, bats the ball away as it was inbounded. No harm, no foul, really. It'll stay with the Chargers. McDonald has it. Definitely looking to trap.
Starting point is 00:58:42 She gets it up to Mills. Cross half court. McCormick drives in hard. Nice pass to Conchle. Doesn't take the shot, though. Chargers holding it for the last shot here. 10 seconds. McDonald, up top. Mills setting a high screen. Comes off it on the left side. Jump shot from the elbow.
Starting point is 00:58:58 No good. Rebound Conchle gets a shot as the time expires no good, though. It'll bounce off the back of the rim. So after three, it's Hillsdale 70, Ursline 47. As we're going to a quick break before coming back with the fourth period. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. Not sure what to do after graduation? Starting point is 01:00:12 information, visit d.c.hillsdale.edu or contact Mary Greco at M. Greco at Hillsdale.orgadu. Welcome back to Radio Freehillsdale 101.7 FM. We got one. One quarter of play left in Hillsdale Women Charger Basketball. Chargers lead 70 to 47 over the Ursuline arrows. It's going to take something to make this a game here in the last 10 minutes. Yeah, 23-point deficit. It looked there like Ursuline was going to be able to get themselves back in the game for a real quick second. But Hillsdale, I mean, they remain down six points pretty much that entire third quarter.
Starting point is 01:00:56 Yep. First line, good start to the third quarter, but Hillsdale able to weather the storm and just sort of ride it out and not lose any ground. McDonald has it for the Chargers. First possession of this fourth quarter, McCormick now on the wing. Back up to Conkel. Over to Petrusick. Petritsick trying to set something up. Gets to the McDonald's top of the key.
Starting point is 01:01:24 Ten seconds left on the shot clock. Post-speed to Petritsik. Pass to McDonald in the corner, up to McCormick. She's got to put it up. Petrusick puts it up from the corner. No good. Rebound, Earth's line. So they use the whole shot clock, but not able to get any points there.
Starting point is 01:01:40 It's still good, though, using the whole shot clock. It's not quite a time that you still want to be really aggressive as you're Hillsdale. But on possessions that you can use the whole shot clock, those are still good possessions. Just go ahead and use you. Yep. Don't force anything. Stop has it up top. Now over to Shreffler.
Starting point is 01:01:57 Over to Statsbury. Statsbury. drives left side finds minch in the corner for three who rolls out almost looked good there for a second chargers rebound it will be macdonald bringing it up yeah that's all minch has done pretty much all games she just wants to shoot that that three point ball as mills tries a three of her own and gets it to go nice shot from sidney mills who's quietly having an excellent game as mcdonald gets a steal they tried a little behind the back moving. McDonald's stole the ball,
Starting point is 01:02:28 bounce pass up to Concoe in transition, and it's good. Great play there from Warren McDonald. That's a true point guard kind of play. Yeah, very under control, and then a great bounce pass, right past the defender to find Ashley Conkall who made the kind of tough basket,
Starting point is 01:02:42 one of those where you're running right under the basket and just got to get the shot up, so it was a good shot there by Ashley Conkla as well. Stop has it outside, trying to get to the paint, kicks it out to Mench. Now to, to Clunin.
Starting point is 01:02:56 Clunin over to Statsbury in the corner. She drives in the paint hard and gets the layup to go. This little scoop shot layup. McCormick has it for the charges in the inbound. Able to beat the press with no trouble, really. Not a Mills, top of the key. Petrusick wing, post-feed to Conchle. Nice pass there from Petruzik to Conkle and Conkill finishes at the bucket.
Starting point is 01:03:19 Yeah, it was a nice drop step move right there by Conchle. It turns a timeout for Erslin, I believe. Yeah, it looks like we've got. We've got timeout, Ursul. We'll go to a quick break. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor. Here's Jinnah Suhita. On March 9 to 12, 1966, Sergeant First Class Benny G. Adkins's camp was attacked early in the morning. Adkins manned a mortar position to defend the camp. Fighting continued until early the next morning when enemy forces launched their main attack. When all mortar rounds were expended, he used every available resource to continue his resistance.
Starting point is 01:04:01 When ordered to evacuate, Adkins and a small group of soldiers dug through the back of the bunker and fought their way out of the camp. When he learned that the last helicopter had already departed, Adkins took charge until they were rescued two days later. During the 38-hour battle and 48 hours of escape and evasion, Adkins killed an estimated 155 enemy fighters while sustaining 18 different wounds to his body. For his extraordinary heroism and selflessness At the risk of his life Above and Beyond the Call of Duty, Sergeant First Class Benny G. Adkins
Starting point is 01:04:30 was awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.1.7 FM. You're listening to Hillsdale Charger Women Basketball. I feel like I messed that up every time. You say it different every time.
Starting point is 01:04:48 I say it different every time. Women's Charger basketball. Women's Charger basketball. Hylsdale. I got to find something and just stick to it. Hillsdale, nonetheless, leads this one. 77 to 49 over the line. It's been a great game offensively.
Starting point is 01:05:02 They're shooting the ball. What are the numbers, Evan? Can we pull them up? So they're shooting 60% from the three-point line and 62% overall. So we need to hit a few more threes to get that three-point percentage better than the regular field goal percentage. Or miss a couple of layups. But I think you're better off making some three-point.
Starting point is 01:05:22 winners. That's 12 for 20. Either way, 60% from three is incredible. An incredible number. Incredible. Don't see that every day. Menzer has it. Cakes over to stop for the arrows. Shreffler in the short corner. Back out to Menser. Menser tries to drive baseline. Little cross over move. Gets inside, throws up the shot. Doesn't hit anything. And Hillsdale has it. Yeah, she just didn't have the height there to put above the defenders so she tried to just kind of reach out and toss it up but defenders were there and ready. Not able to get enough on it. McDonald has it in the
Starting point is 01:05:59 wing up to Mills, up to Sydney Smith. Excellent first half for Smith hasn't done as much in the second but hasn't really needed to. McDonald up top screen from Splane and it looks like we're going to reach in foul
Starting point is 01:06:14 so no free throws but and it was Madison and cluniton again. And Petrusik and Mills taking a breather for the Chargers. Panasik and Holbein will check in. Inbound from McDonald,
Starting point is 01:06:38 into Smith. Back to McDonald. Panasic has it. Turn around, face up. A little dream shake move and she gets it to go. Nice job there from Panasic going to work in the post. Yeah, hit a little fake drop step and then spun back around and hit the,
Starting point is 01:06:54 hit the little hook shy. You may not be old enough to know it, but yeah, that's the old of Kimelajuan Dream Shake move, Evan. I shouldn't be old enough to know it, but I do. And you might as well be 90 years old, you may as well be 90 years old, you know? In sports terms, I am. Ursulite has it inside.
Starting point is 01:07:11 Can't see as well. Is Riley Stop able to get inside, back down and get a little layup on Panasic? She returns the favor. As Stop gets a nice, steal on a pass from Splend. Can't get the layup to go.
Starting point is 01:07:26 Madison Clunin has it now under the basket. She's in a tough spot and her pass is intercepted by Savannah Smith. So a couple of turnovers there for both teams. Splane has it, top of the key. Hand off to McDonald. McDonald gets it over to Panassik. Panasic passes up the screen. McDonald's with a deep two-point shot, no good.
Starting point is 01:07:48 And Savannah Smith will be called for the foul on the rebound. She kind of flew in there, tried to stop. momentum but not able to do it and she knocked over the Ursulant player. Yeah, just to go back to those three point numbers here for Hillsdale, we've talked about how they're shooting as a team. Lauren McDonald 3 for 3 from 3 point
Starting point is 01:08:06 and then Savannah Smith and Sidney Mills both 3 for 4 from 3 point range. Caitlin Splain 2 for 5 and Italy's Petrus League 1 for 2. So a lot of different shooters and 3 players with 3 3 3-pointers for Hills. So yeah, Caitlin Splean who's shooting 40% she's the one bringing the percentage
Starting point is 01:08:22 down. So how dare you 40%. How dare you shoot 40% from three, Splane? Come on. You've got to get those numbers up. 40%. I'm teasing, of course. It's, uh, we have a foul on the other end. Ersline will be passing it in. Chargers leads 79 to 51 with five minutes, 45 seconds left in the game. And it's another steal from Splane that she, if she can control it, she does. Got it now. Pass over to Holbein. line gets it across court and she finds a wide open Sydney Smith or Savannah Smith under the basket and she can't believe she missed the layout.
Starting point is 01:09:01 It was the easiest shot of the day for her. Yeah, after such a great game by Savannah Smith, he wouldn't look back and think that that was the one that she missed. Yeah, as Earthline misses, Chargers bring it up quick and this time Smith is able to get inside and she finishes that one. Misses the layout makes the short jumper.
Starting point is 01:09:22 up. able to write the mistake on the last possession. Ursuline has it up top. It's Clunin. Chargers now lead by 30. It's 81 to 51. Clunin trying to work inside and she falls down. They don't
Starting point is 01:09:37 call anything. And eventually Ursuline calls a timeout. A little bit of a strange sequence there. I thought, you know, usually when a player goes to the ground holding the ball, they call travel. There was no travel called. And then she tried to call the time out. didn't get to it. So very, very unique. Delayed, get the timeout calls. We'll go
Starting point is 01:09:56 take a timeout break. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.1.7 FM. Welcome to Radio Free Hillsdale. What can we help you with today? Hi there. Hillsdale Charger basketball, women's team taking on first line arrows. That's right, Evan, I changed it again.
Starting point is 01:11:17 I'm just, I'm just, you know, we're just going to try different things here. We've got a 30-point game in the fourth quarter. What else am I going to do? Yeah, I got to try some things out. I prefer to say Hillsdale Women's Charger Basketball or Hillsdale Men's Charger Basketball, but you can say it in whatever order that you please. I think that order probably is the best. I think that seems to flow off the
Starting point is 01:11:38 tongue easiest. Like I said, 30 point game here. And we're going to get a quick foul on number 24, Olivia Patch. I'm going to say maybe a blocking foul. They gave her the arm bar foul. The old arm bar blocking foul.
Starting point is 01:11:56 Four minutes, 41 seconds left. Ursuline ball, inbound pass to Clunin. Clunin tries to give her to Mitch. She wasn't ready for it. She's got to save it going out of bounds, and unfortunately, she saves it to the charges. That actually was a very nice save. It was just unfortunate where the ball ended up for.
Starting point is 01:12:11 And Rulman has it for Hillsdale. Has number 22, Maddie Green, checking into the game for the first time. Also, number one, Peyton Adkins. She's seen a little bit of action. And Chargers Inbounding underneath the basket Gets it into Patch. Patch inside to Green. Green turn around shot.
Starting point is 01:12:39 Nice shot for Maddie Green. Give her two points. A nice little turnaround, simple jumper right there by Maddie Green. Yep, as Peyton Adkins tips the pass. Goes back court, but no violation because of the tip. Now, Michaela Clunin dribbling down, gets to Statsbury in the corner up to Madison crossover move out to Statsbury
Starting point is 01:13:04 gets her to go on the shot fake back to Clunin deep two point shot no good Patch pardon me Rulman there for the rebound and Danny Holbein brings it up for the charges 83 to 51 coming up on three and a half minutes left
Starting point is 01:13:20 in the game post feed to Patch she's working inside patiently puts it up no good it will be Ursuline ball. Hatch may have been looking for the foul there but didn't get it. As Sidney Mills will check back into the game and Emma Ruman will sit down. Yeah, I think Hillsdale, knowing that this is their last home game they're going to play, has all three seniors out there.
Starting point is 01:13:43 All three seniors in the game out. Erslin. Menzert gets it. Yep. As Clunin has it outside, up to Statsbury. Over to the other Clunin to Menser, back up to Shreffler. A lot of ball movement here. Clunin gets it inside.
Starting point is 01:14:03 Face-up move. Little spin, turn around shot with a hand in her face. No good. And rebound, Holbein. Nice defense there from the Chargers. And Danny Holbein will bring it up. And gets it to Maddie Green. And then down to Patch in the corner.
Starting point is 01:14:22 And then into Mills. Mills tip pass out. Ball eventually gets to Halbyn. Takes a three. No good. Fighting for the rebound. Ursuline has it. And Kayla Clunin will bring it up.
Starting point is 01:14:34 Madison over to Menser back to Madison at the top of the key the screen motion Menser has it post feed into Shreffler Shreffler trying to go to work throws up a shot no good rebound Holbein chases it down and she's off and running some great defense there by Olivia Patch had her squared up the whole way as we have a foul on Michaela Clunin
Starting point is 01:14:57 players got tied up a little bit I think was incidental contact but a foul nonetheless Chargers lead it, 83 to 51. We got two minutes and 22 seconds left in the game. As number three, Kaylee Minch will check back in. Yeah, Clooney has four fouls, so they're checking out of the game now. As Patch tries to go a little back down, turnaround move, no good.
Starting point is 01:15:25 Rebound Statsbury. Bring it up, has it on the wing, gets it to Menser in the corner. Menser drives on Mills, step back shot. Good. Nice move there for Menz. Yeah, the first time I think that she hasn't shot in a three-pointer right there. Menser actually driving in and then heading the step-back shot. Albein brings it up for the charger.
Starting point is 01:15:43 Still a 30-point game. Patch has it outside. Cross-court to Atkins. Atkins, jab step, takes the three. No good. Rebound Patch out to Mills. Mills, shot, fake drive, little step three shot. What a move there from Sidney Mills.
Starting point is 01:16:00 Great take there by Sydney Mills. not only to get her defender off the jibble, but then to take the little jab step when she ticked up the ball inside the paint and then get the open jumper. She's just such a skilled player. I don't think there's any weakness really in her game. She just does everything at a high level.
Starting point is 01:16:18 There's a foul on Maddie Green down on this end, going to be a shooting foul. Nothing? I got nothing. Okay. As, Halbine, Patch, and Mills will check out for the last time here at Don Tibbitts Potter Arena. Emotional moment.
Starting point is 01:16:43 Hugs all around and big smiles. It's always nice to have these moments with a 32-point lead and a middle left in the game. That's how you want to send players out. Yeah, and some of these players came in into a system that they weren't winning a lot of games, winning maybe one, two games a year, and now that they've turned it into a consistent playoff team. So they've really turned this program around the last couple of years. He'll still has.
Starting point is 01:17:09 And these players are a big reason why. As Green will inbound for the Chargers, erstline hit both the free throws. And Smith has it now for the Chargers. Coming up on a minute left, just sort of running out the clock here. Rulman has it up top, down to Green, over to Smith
Starting point is 01:17:33 Smith little bounce pass inside the Ruman left hand shot no good try to get it off the glass Stop brings it up for Ersline Menser has it outside Statsbury top of the key inside the Shreffler going to work with the left hand gets it to go
Starting point is 01:17:49 off the glass this little post move there from Shreffler 47 seconds left 29 point lead for the Chargers toward 85 points to it's got to be if not their season high pretty pretty close pretty darn close yeah 85 points don't see that all the big offensive game by the charge of the year panassive has it trying to get inside to Peyton Atkins adkins saves it before it goes out of bounds tries to throw it up and did they call a foul
Starting point is 01:18:18 they called it so they called a foul but i think that the foul was on the ground yeah she she tried to get the shot off because she knew that the foul was they won't give it the shot attempt you see that the NBA now all the time guys try to throw up the ball and I was sure you shooting, I was shooting. I was like, well, you were at half court. I don't know if I buy it. Atkins had it in the corner, step back three. No good, long rebound. She tries to save it herself, but unfortunately
Starting point is 01:18:45 stepped out of bounds. So the Ursuline ball, 20 seconds left. Hillsdale leads it, 85 to 56. Yeah, Adkins is a player that as soon as she lets go the ball, she's already going for the rebound. Yeah. Very aggressive. Good to follow on her shot there.
Starting point is 01:19:01 Sometimes you shoot a shot that you know is not going in, and that's why you follow your shot so fast. It may have in that case. I know that feeling. I know that feeling all too well. As we're two, one second left, final buzzer, shot goes up. No good. Picture perfect end of the season for the Chargers is the kind of game that you want going into tournament play. As they win this one, 85 to 56.
Starting point is 01:19:28 Evan, give us some of the numbers. Who are leaders from the game today? So chargers with big, big games for both Sidney Mills and Savannah Smith, 18 points each. Lauren McDonald with 14, and then 200 players in double digits are Ashley Conkall. And Caitlin's playing with 10, and then Annalise Peter Zick with 7. As far as rebounding goes, the Hillsdale All-Time Women's Basketball. Rebound leader gets nine rebounds leading the team once again.
Starting point is 01:19:53 Ashley Concoe gets five, Halbine gets four, and Rulman gets four as well. Three-pointers, Hillsdale, as a team. team shooting 50% from three points they cooled down a little bit but 12 for 24 is a number that no women's basketball team is nobody is going to be mad about nobody is the same to anybody will take 50% from three so a great game overall uh four hillsdale and alice peters took with four assists helen spleen with four assists loren mcdonald with three and sydney mills with three Sydney Mills, Samantha Smith, and Olivia Patch, all with some great blocks.
Starting point is 01:20:31 Then Lorne McDonald and Caitlin Spley with four steals and three steals. So a great game overall by a lot of chargers and a great team game, which is what happens when you win 85 to 56. Yep. And like I said, exactly the kind of game you want before going into tournament play. This team is getting hot and playing their best basketball at the right time. We appreciate you listening. Signing off, no men's game today.
Starting point is 01:20:55 It was just the women's game. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. Have a great day.
