We have a great in-conference matchup for you here.

I'm Gordy. Today, your Hillsdale College Chargers taking on the Walsh Cavaliers in a matchup that is a big one for the Chargers. Yeah, I mean, Chargers saw here, eight straight wins. Can't make that up. No, can't make that up. This women's basketball team that was, you know, trying to fight for 500 last year, fighting for that middle pack team. And now they're won eight straight. That's incredible.

I couldn't remember the last time the team at Hillsdale has won. I mean, eight straight other than maybe men's basketball. Yeah, it's been a great run. Walsh coming off of a little in-conference losses, but tough games that they've played should be a good opponent, 8-8 on the season. So really exciting matchup. Hillsdale probably really wants to keep this hot streak because they have probably their most important game next week against Ashland.

If they can keep that game competitive, well, Ashton has been the dominant force in the GMAC for a long time. And it's just D-2 women's basketball in general? Yeah, they won the national championship two years ago and or the runner up three years ago. So if they can keep this street going in the next game, it would be important. Yeah, it could be a big game. A couple of storylines for this game, just checking out what we got going on.

The height difference is one that I pointed out. None of the starters really reaching six foot for Walsh playing on a small ball. And the Chargers, of course, have a couple people that are six to, a couple bigger forwards. The Chargers really like to get those close touches early. So it should be an interesting storyline, see if we're going to go. Walsh applies pressure with the press or their game plan. Yeah, and one other big storyline for Hillsdale is it lost two fifth-year seniors to a medical retirement, both to knee injuries, not coming back this year, and because of that, they will be

done. They're both sitting on the sideline today. So they went to the volleyball team and recruited another graduating senior, Marilyn Popalwell, who is, I've never seen her play basketball, but she is a phenomenal volleyball player and phenomenal athletes. So it'll be interesting here for me, especially to watch her play her first game. She's been playing in these games. Should be exciting in all-conference and all-American volleyball player taking her talents to the basketball court. Here we go for tip off. Chargers in the gray. Savannah Smith is going to win it back to Lauren McDonald who sets up the offense.

Chargers looking to stay hot. Caitlin's blaine tipped away off her out of bounds. Turnover Walsh takes it. Yeah, you never want to turn it over on that first possession. I'm Lauren Smith, and someone recently asked me for my opinion on the word skidaddle. Well, he didn't actually ask. He said he didn't like the word, and I said I did, and one thing led to another, and here I am making an episode about it.

Recently, I suggested using highly descriptive verbs and nouns rather than heaping up a bunch of adjectives. For example, instead of saying the food was very good, describe the experience of enjoying that food, using strong words like savored, or, oh, here's a good one, scrumptious. This can get taken a little far when you start using words most people don't understand, such as crepuscular, for example. I have no idea what that means, and something about the texture of the word makes me uncomfortable.

In my opinion, skid-addled doesn't fall into this category. It's an interesting, somewhat unusual word that sounds like what it means and is commonly understood. So, though it isn't frequently used, it conveys a lot of descriptive information. That's your grammar minute. So, Chargers are dominating in the size battle here early, and they've shown that with a lot of down-low passes. Some great passing down-low is really what's going to lead them to victory. Easy lay-ups. I mean, they've just gotten that backside, just a little touch pass over the defender, and it's been working so far, and that's what they're dominating. But Wall's coming out here early in the first quarter pressing now. Full court pressure gets it into Annalise, Pitchvich.

Finds Lauren McDonald and the Chargers get past half court. Just under four to play, nine to five. Warren McDonald's setting up that offense. And early, they're looking for Savannah Smith down low, just like we talked about. Kendall McCormick stopped in the key. We'll take the three ball, won't go offensive rebound. Back down low, McCormick. won't go another rebound off of walsh couple good looks there for the chargers couldn't get one to fall

so that's the first time we've seen it affect the game walsh as soon as that shot goes up since two players down the court trying to get an early fast break and he'll still able to get an offensive rebound off of it because somebody was left wide over chargers baseline out of bounds gets it in savannah smith finds warren macdonald walsh in a two-three zone now switching things up on defense mcdonald attacks through the middle and she's foul Going to the rim there, attacking the weak spots to the zone. Two shots for McDonald's. Yeah, they usually say don't dribble through his zone,

but when the waves part, I mean, you've got to take the ball right through. Definitely interesting to see them going to the zone. As we mentioned, the size has been a huge factor in this game early and often. Yeah, probably going to double team that post in that zone. Trying to give up some more long-range shots. First one for McDonald's up, no good. Still 9 to 5. Chargers, a lot of juice.

As you said, they've won at eight straight. So a lot of energy from this team early. Hot. McDonald's, second one up and through your score 10 to 5. Walsh coming back the other way. They're going to get McCormick with a foul. On the point guard, Rusky. And no surprise there.

Kendall McCormick, Hillsdale's best defender, but also probably Hillsdale's most aggressive defender. Draws quite a few fouls, but also gets quite a few steals. She's picking up pretty much full court on the point guard. You don't see that too often. Kind of a one-person press, but tight defense on Gracie Rekasey. Walsh, looking for something here, finds their point card Rackacy. Down low, they find Rory O'Hara.

Tough take there, won't go. Rebound, Warren McDonald, and the chargers are back the other way. Looking for a quick one. McCormick, wing three, blocked. Rebound. Back out. Laura McDonald. Tough take to the rim and she's filed again. Yeah, I mean, one of these times she's going to get the N1.

She's getting a little push off to get the open shot. She's not getting, you know, slapped around hard enough that she can't make that. They're just rolling out. Walsh actually really lucky not to have had N1 against McDonald's yet. Checking in after a couple of fouls for Walsh, number two, Mallory, Odu. And number 10, the Lydia Rimbold. Yeah. She also has the most attempts with before this game at 53, probably now at 56, make that 57, and that one's good. 12 to 5, Chargers decide to pick up full court now. Walsh, not ready for it at all. Walsh is going to pressure here. But you know what one thing is that's almost as important as how good you Pressure is how fast you can get back into man defense. McCormick drives to the right, kicks it out to Rulman, back to Splain. She'll take a three ball, won't go. Tough rebound McCormick, taken away by Walsh. Coming back the other way, Mallory Odo, she'll throw up a shot, won't go. Rebound Splain, and they got numbers, four on five. Splane, tough layup, won't go. I mean, you can pick apart parts of this game pretty easily, but he'll still really dominating on all ends, except maybe the three-pointer because they missed a couple of them, but even those, they've gotten great looks. And with those great looks, too, a big thing for them has been the offensive rebounds, getting those second chance shots and Walsh with another option with a foul. I mean, playing phenomenal defense. Steels on press, steals on surprise press. They've had two pressed steals and I mean, just in their manned defense

are not letting up any easy shots. There have been zero easy shots for the Walls Cavaliers and no layups. A couple of locked shots, no offensive rebounds, to my knowledge for the Cavaliers. It's one, one offensive rebound, which still... I mean, for the amount of shots,

they are shooting... Cavaliers are trying to get shots in transition, as you mentioned, and they're not able to find that early. Yeah, Hillsdale right now on pace to put up 70, four short of 80. 76 and Walson pace about 20.

Yeah. Really just a dominant, dominant first quarter for Hillsville College. I think the key for Walsh here is to try to find their leading score. Sammy Kim held scoreless, I believe, to this point. And those fade-away shots aren't something you see very often in women's basketball, but it's something you see from Lauren McDonald's a lot. She's very comfortable in that aspect.

He also did look a little bit more tired, but Hill still really kind of fell apart offensively and that was the story. Wall started doubling that post, that little cut down pass and Hill still hasn't made adjustments yet to it.

He'll still hasn't started shooting more threes, hasn't made out to the adjustments to it. So when Hill still adjusts offensively, I think they're defensively bit easier. For sure, the big three-pointer at the end of the half there by Annalise Petrazic, but other than that, the Chargers kind of stalled out offensively. We're scoring, what, seven points in that second quarter. Could be key here in the second half. See, the church gets some easy buckets, and then when you get easy buckets, you can set up the defense. Inbound into Lauren McDonald, a player who's been in these kind of situations, and you know that she's your All-Star and Great Free Threatrow shooter when she gets fouled.
