Hello, I'm Ariel McDowell here with another word to the wise. This is your friendly reminder to smile at the people you see in public. Make conversation with them. Be easy to approach and don't perceive strangers with apprehension. This may seem insignificant, but I've lived in different areas of the country, and since moving to the Midwest, I've noticed something. You guys are better at this than most. Midwesterners, whether they be at work or shopping or going for a walk,

they still talk to you like they see you as a person. I know this seems cliche, but this skill. does seem to be fading with our constant use of cell phones. Our constant hustle and self-focus makes us perceive strangers as an interruption to our day instead of a person worth our time. And my day has so frequently been made by a surprise compliment or conversation in public. So keep it up, look somebody new in the eye, and smile at them.
