Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm trying to remember how we used to do this. It's been so long. It's been so long. It's been so long. It's been so long. It's been so long. It's been so long. How do we start this again? Good morning. Thank you for yet. Oh, right.
Starting point is 00:00:33 It's really good yet. Another Star Trek podcast. Right, I'm Brad for the morning. I'm Brad for the day. Right, I'm Brad for the morning. I'm Brad for the morning. I'm Brad for the morning. I'm Brad for this episode.
Starting point is 00:00:42 I won't say that. But, that will be your Brad for this episode. I won't say that. But, that will be your intro for today. It'll just be me, it'll be like, how do I do it? I'm trying to do it. It's good. I can make that work.
Starting point is 00:00:55 All right, let's try this again. Well, that's, let me, all right. Hi, hello. Welcome to the Hidden of The Star Trek podcast. I'm your Brad for the host. No, I did not work. I'm your, I'm good. You're good, man, you're good.
Starting point is 00:01:12 I'm Brad, I'm your Brad for this morning, whatever. Hi. I'm good. It's not like riding a bike at all. Oh my God. I can assure the audience it is 7 730 in the morning and Majid has zero alcohol in him right now. I have no, I don't I don't drink alcohol but I haven't had, I haven't had any pre- I didn't have my workout this morning. I didn't have anything.
Starting point is 00:01:35 It's thrown off. Yeah, my rhythm is off. It explains everything. So I'm your, you're missing your workout and you're missing your dog man. I miss the, yeah Kylo is yeah my wife took Kylo with her to drop off my daughter at school for some reason Normally he's on the couch behind the stela's around somewhere. I don't know where she's plotting. She's plotting Yeah, you'll just see the door open behind me and it's just Stella So we are here. We're back to our listeners. It may seem like only just another episode, but it's been like three weeks since I've talked to my cohorts Brad, the real Brad. I honestly don't really remember like when we last talk. At this point with the baby, I have no concept of time. Yeah time is a man-made
Starting point is 00:02:27 construct. I haven't I haven't had any concept of time since the pandemic started. Yeah. No COVID's over so we're good. Oh right I guess I didn't get that memo. And my other cohort drew. Hi guys good morning.. Hello. Morning, Baji. Morning. How's everything been, sir? A blur. Well, it's I think that, you know, somebody's tired because he stayed up a little late for his birthday. I also stayed up late to watch the episode. So. That's that's that's part of it. Well, I'll have first happy belated birthday, sir. Thank you. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:03:13 It was it was nice. It was nice. And thank you for doing your job and watching the episode. I mean, listen, if I don't do the episode, if I don't watch the episode, I'm not doing the bare minimum, which is watching the episode. I mean, it's important since you're hosting today. So, you know, so I didn't do the episode, if I don't watch the episode, I'm not doing the bare minimum, which is watching the episode. I mean, just the porn since you're hosting today. So, you know, so I didn't know I was hosting until Brad's like, Hey, magi, you know, you're hosting right?
Starting point is 00:03:33 Five seconds before we hit record. So that was nice. That's not right. But in what Drew's gonna pop in and say, well, magi, that's on the air table. Just check our table. Just check out our table. It's kind of easy. He does have a point there. I mean, there's a reason that I'm like
Starting point is 00:03:53 an organizational nutcase. Is that the word you wanna go with? Yeah, that's the word I'm going with. Drew has folders for his folders. I do. I do. I do. The idea of making a spreadsheet is a good time. I picture this matrix of never ending folders.
Starting point is 00:04:14 It's all folders down. Yeah, I just got folders everywhere. I hope there's no other substance to my life except folders and spreadsheets. I hope Metro messes up your filing system That's rude man. That's called yeah, well, yeah, well you to kind of deserve it do I? Yeah, you're you're you're your organizational shaming me oh Hey, well, is it really is it really organizational shaming if I'm the one that's keeping track of
Starting point is 00:04:45 everything for you and you're just not doing it? You're basically my wife, yeah. Oh, that tracks. Okay. Well, well, gentlemen, it's been since before New Year's, we've talked to each other on this podcast for us. Yeah, I was your New Year's. Do you guys do anything fun? I, I flipped the calendar from 2022 to 2023. That's fantastic. How about you Drew? So, I mean, we went out with some friends and did a small get together at a house.
Starting point is 00:05:15 But something that my wife and I try to do every year is a movie marathon. And for New Year's Day, we'll pick like a franchise or a theme and try to watch a bunch of movies that are in that that fit that theme. So we've done like Marvel movies in the past. There was one year where we watched the original Star Wars trilogy, we've done alien, Terminator, stuff like that. This year we chose baseball movies, and we picked three different baseball movies to watch. Okay, can I make a guess? Can I guess what you watched?
Starting point is 00:05:57 Go for it. You said three movies? Yes. A League of Their Own, Major League, and what's that one with the kid who is like the fastball he broke his arm and he throws baseball like super fast. Don't tell him. Those are my guesses. Don't tell him the name of the movie.
Starting point is 00:06:16 Let him stew for a little bit. What do you think the name of the movie is, Brad? Fastball. I don't know. The name of the movie with a kid throws a fastball. It's called fastball. Oh, yeah, sure. Go for it. It's a work of the year. That's the one you're thinking. Fastball. I don't know. Did they even the movie where the kid throws a fastball is called fastball? Yeah, sure. Go for it. It's a working of the year. That's the one you're thinking of. Working of the year? Okay. Thank you, Mjee. I appreciate you remembering my childhood better than I did.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Well, unfortunately, no. None of those movies were the ones that we watched. We watched Moneyball. We watched 42, which is Jackie Robinson's story. And we started watching 61, which is a movie about, I can't remember Roger Maris, and I can't remember the other guy's name. But it was the one produced by Billy Crystal for HBO, right? Correct, yeah. We started watching that. And my wife ended up falling asleep on the sofa,
Starting point is 00:07:08 so we didn't finish it. I feel like my problem is, is that I chose everything before 2000, you chose everything after 2000. Well, the movies that you suggested, like we wanted to watch Major League, but I wasn't able to find it anywhere. So... Have you seen it before? Oh, yeah. It's on YouTube. It's free on YouTube it anywhere. So, have you seen it before?
Starting point is 00:07:25 Oh, yeah. It's on YouTube. It's free on YouTube, actually. Well, crap. Yeah. The one place you didn't look. The one place that it looked. But anyway.
Starting point is 00:07:33 So, I mean, and I'm glad that we really wanted to watch Moneyball. That was like a must see for me. And that was a tremendous film. 42 was also a tremendous. And 61 was, it had some promise, but you could tell it was like an HBO movie. And HBO didn't quite have the caliber of production that they have today.
Starting point is 00:08:00 So I have a question about 42. Was there a very important underlining tone about towels? I've heard towels in the number 42 are very connected. I think you're thinking of the wrong movie. Yeah, but probably. Yeah. 42, the only connection that 42 has is with Miles Morales. I'm talking about Hitchhiker's God, man.
Starting point is 00:08:25 You know that one, right? I knew that. Okay, thank you, Drew. We're not doing this again. We're not gonna have two episodes in a row where you guys are making a reference to... I mean, an obscure property? No, it's...
Starting point is 00:08:43 Hitchhiker's guy, the galaxy man. Majeed, this is the 37th episode of this podcast that we've recorded. So, we've already been doing this for 37 episodes. So, I don't know if say where 42 comes into play with Brad. That's okay. Drew's like, yeah, you don't need to understand. Are you gaslighting me? Is that what it feels like?
Starting point is 00:09:10 So, so, so, so, so, funny thing about gaslighting. The other day, the other day, by, by, my wife goes to me, she's like, Hey, what is,
Starting point is 00:09:19 what does gaslighting mean? And I'm like, oh, that's the thing that Drew and Mijee do all the time on our podcast. Well, technically, if we I'm like, oh, that's the thing that Drew and Magi do all the time on our podcasts. Well, technically, if we're being like specific, it's what you and I do too drew. Which by the way, I'm looking to this gas lighting is not a crime. It's not a felony. It's just a comedic misdemeanor. Comedic misdemeanor. A comedic misdemeanor. Sure, a comedic misdemeanor. Wow.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Wow. This sounds like something that would fly over well in the Court of Bird Law. Yeah. Listen, hey, so you guys gave me a hard time for, there's been a last recording. You guys gave me a hard time for a gift I gave to my wife. They had phones, so she go on TV at night. And you're like, hey, yeah, you know, you bought a new TV, was it excuse?
Starting point is 00:10:08 And you can all this money to get it fixed. Whatever, whatever you told me because it was so long ago, I got it fixed. I got it fixed. Yeah. So apparently you can get a digital audio, digital optical cable out from the TV, and you can get a converter that is powered by USB on the TV to then convert that digital optical signal into a 3.5 headphone jack signal.
Starting point is 00:10:39 So now you have two audio sources separate in the pen from each other. So now she could mute the TV independently and then listen to her headphones. I thanks to... Nice! But I kept the new TV. So it was my... It was already up on the wall and I really logged into Disney Plus and I figured, eh, I'm keeping it.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Oh, I love it. It's the Christmas gift that you give to somebody else where you have to also buy yourself a gift. Yeah, also spoiler alert. She hates the new TV. She doesn't like the colors. She thinks it's too dim. But it's LED. You know, it's just the brightness. Yeah, but then it washes out and she doesn't understand How things work But you know, I'm so glad your wife doesn't listen to his podcast. She listens to the podcast She's listen to more preserves than our buddy Wayne Although to Wayne's credit, he is catching up
Starting point is 00:11:43 Well, he says he's catching up. I don't think my wife has listened to more than like three episodes of any podcast I've ever done. And I've been doing them for almost a, well, over a decade at this point. So I wish we had enough time to break that down and unpack your trauma. Oh man, so much trauma.
Starting point is 00:12:04 But we have an episode of Star Trek to talk about. Look at you pivoting into the thing that we're here to talk about. I'm also not good with like, you know, ongoing trauma. So there's that. Look, I thought I was the one that needed the hug, but it really sounds like you're the one that needs the hug. the one that needed the hug, but it really sounds like you're the one that needs the hug. Bringing in, buddy. No. Took you a long time to come to terms with that.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I thought about it, but then if you give me a hug, then Brad's going to get jealous. He's going to need the hug and he can't get a hug from the baby because the baby's too small to give my hug It's okay. There's the baby just like latches and like drools all over me. So it's okay Like baby latches So my thumb that so the term latching is I Know it's probably not the most the most appropriate for me. It's more for the wife But you know, right. I'm gonna suck on your hand and I'm like, oh, please don't do that. That's just gross Yeah, a lot to unpack in a few statements. I think we should do do what Magi said and move on to the episode. Yeah, we can't wait to edit this dumpster fire. Ha ha attracted to chaos. She's gonna knock it off the ledge.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Yeah. Right, so this episode that we watched is season one episode 24 called this side of paradise. Did you guys have any expectations going into this episode? I was expecting this to be like shore leave. You know, I think that's kind of what I thought it was going to be close to. Is that because you guys saw the screenshots and you were like, oh, same place? Well, no, when we read the description last time, what was it?
Starting point is 00:14:20 The Enterprise crew finds happiness at a colony where aliens spores, provide total contentment. Yeah. I was like, man, this is a mushroom eye if I ever heard one. And there was something, I mean, not just one of the screenshots, but I mean, there was a couple screenshots that I had seen where it just kind of gave off the vibe
Starting point is 00:14:42 that this is going to be a much zaneer premise than we ultimately got. Yeah. I personally didn't have much expectations going into it because one, I didn't know what the episode was. I just knew that we had to record this morning and I had to watch the next episode in line. So I hadn't really know. So you went in blind. I went in pretty blind, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:11 And I mean, I gotta say, this episode of Star Trek was an episode of Star Trek. Well, yes. And. I mean, we'll get to the, my other thoughts during the other part of the recording. I'm not sure what kind of response you want from me now. I think you want the summary right so the enterprise is ordered to a federation colony on Omelchron setty-three I'll give you a second oh my god this is just a trash fire I'll give you a second not to be confused with the was it on the crime per see I eight eight eight. Yeah, man. I don't
Starting point is 00:16:09 hear from the planet on my crime per see I eight feature. Rama. Just no, it wasn't. You are perfect. No, no, don't don't lie to him. His his his his more than it sounded pretty close. No, his his his windmill. What was his name? More. Yeah, his more bow impression at oh, Roberto. That was a lot. I get that, but you're your your your more bow and uh, Roberto impressions are perfect. But more about the same voice actor. I get it. but still different voices. Is it really though like Roberto's also voicing? No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Roberto's a different actor. That's Dave Herman. But Morbo and Lurr are both Marisa Marsh, who's also from Peking the Brain. He plays the Brain. Is it a crazy the amount of random knowledge each one of us has in our heads at any given time? Yeah. Okay, just gonna-
Starting point is 00:17:10 So the enterprise is ordered to go to planet Omicron study three and there's search of a colony that has apparently been missing for several years at this point. What did Brad just do? What just- What just happened? What just happened? All is, it was just, it was,
Starting point is 00:17:25 all right. So, Spock, Spock and McCoy, and others beam down to the colony. They discover that all the colonists are alive, and this is a prize, is the planet is bathed in birth, birth-old race,
Starting point is 00:17:42 which is a form of, kid, kill a, I don't know. It's a former radiation. And basically humans can't survive longer than a week. Hmm. The leader, Elias Sandival welcomes them and explains that they only lost communication due to equipment failure.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Also presence on the planet is Lila. Ooh, Lila. So it's, it's basically an entire colony of men in one woman. So cult? Yeah, yeah, it actually does. You know, that's a valid point. I don't think we saw a single other woman on the entire episode. That there's a lot of underlining comments
Starting point is 00:18:20 that I can make there. Maybe you don't. We went two weeks in a row with potential illegal, phalonious comments that our lawyer friend pointed out to us. So I would like to break that streak if we can. Sure thing, Magik, you feel free to continue on, sir. Thanks. So all the men in one woman named Lila, Colomie, she's a botanist, that Spockman on Earth 60 years before. She loved them, but he was unable to return her love. So it's unrequited, just like what I have with Drew. The lighting party you notice is a lack of animal life, including a livestock and anything else. McCoy finds no sign of disease or injury.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Sannevo, who has also an epithetomy. That was a big word for me. It's in the basket, in the basket in that. Anyway, so Sannevo, who's had an epithet... He lost his appendix. And now he actually has a new appendix, a crew back. Kirk nonetheless insists that the colonists need to be evacuated due to the radiation. So I want to point out here, like, Kirk immediately jumps to the...
Starting point is 00:19:42 We need to get everybody off this planet when everybody is perfectly happy, content, and healthy. I mean, is it just me or is that seem like a really big jump in like, hey, we need to move to evacuation? That's fair. I mean, I mean, I thought it was fine. I mean, listen, if there is radiation there and the radiation's known to cause death, then yeah, they need to go. But I think the Brad's point, like these colonists were allegedly here for quite some time at this point,
Starting point is 00:20:14 and probably should have been already dead. So without having all the facts, I think my reaction would be like, okay, well, I don't understand how you guys are still okay, but get the hell out of here. Let's go. That's kind of a way Kirk acted in this situation. Like if you were in a sinking ship, right, but there was no water inside the boat yet, when the rescuers came to get you, would you still want to get out of the sinking ship, or would you be like, well, it's dry in here.
Starting point is 00:20:43 I'm fine. I'd about to leave because the sink is the Like in that case. Yeah, but I don't think it's the proper analogy for this though. It's more of like it's more of like Hey, there's an iceberg coming you should get off the ship Because it hasn't hit it yet. Look, is there enough room on the plank of wood for the entire colony? Yeah, yeah, this should be. She should be.
Starting point is 00:21:13 All right, I'm done gaslighting. Let's move on. That's gaslighting. I was making Titanic references. Yeah, I know, I know. By the way, there is no way that Rose is gonna save Jack at the end of Titanic. She was a jump off.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Oh, so apparently he was a one-night send. James Cameron did like apparently a scientific study that to indicate that he's vindicated that Jack couldn't fit on. So I got read a news article about that. Yeah, so the thing about James Cameron, the fact that he wants to take things to the next level, I'm sure he murdered four people with that experiment. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha so... Did this claimers? Ha ha ha ha!
Starting point is 00:22:16 Colomia offers a show of Spock how the colas have survived and takes into us the field of strange flowers. The flowers expel spores that cover Spock and after which, by the way, I was painful for him, right? Like we know that that was painful for him because he's half-fledged. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Meanwhile, she's sitting there like, oh no, no, no, just go with it. You should be fine. It wasn't painful for me at all. Well, like, the thing is, you know, with Spock and all Vulcans too, I think at this point, there's this misunderstanding that Vulcans do not feel emotion, but it's clarified later on in the show that they do,
Starting point is 00:22:55 they just suppress the emotions. So Spock being half-humid, you know, he's kind of at a disadvantage right off the bat with that, but, you know, he's trying to suppress them. But yeah, he definitely felt pain there. Yeah, cats also suppress their emotions, right? Cats?
Starting point is 00:23:14 I don't know. I know exactly where I stand with my cats. Except for rage. They express rage. Yeah, Metro was kind of a dick this morning. He wanted food. Did you did you feed him? Yes. Okay, good. That's why he's not in the room of us.
Starting point is 00:23:34 He's not in the room with us because I locked the door. All right, so After after Spockets exposed to these these flowers he starts feeling, he starts feeling happy, right? And he starts expressing his love for Colomi. Am I pronouncing that right? Colomi, Colomi? Calomi? Just call her Leila. Leila.
Starting point is 00:23:56 Leila? Leila? Leila. Leila. I'm sure there's an L there. Leila? Leila. Leila.
Starting point is 00:24:04 You're pronouncing it correctly, Colomi. Colomi. Thank you, Brad. I'm sure there's an L there. Lila? Lila. You're pronouncing it correctly, Kalomi. Kalomi, thank you Brett. Unless Brett is gaslighting me. I can't tell anymore. Let me know, it looks Japanese, so that's how you pronounce it if it's Japanese. Thank you, buddy.
Starting point is 00:24:21 So Spock professes his love for Kalomi and blightly disregards orders to begin the evacuation of the colony. The rest of the landing party also exposed to the spores and with the exception of Kirk, exhibit that same sort of behavior. It's important to note that they also beam the spores onto the enterprise.
Starting point is 00:24:43 That was the dumbest decision they could have made. Yeah. And it wasn't just like one flower. It was a bunch of flowers. They beam to the ship. You know, I mean, I'm going to give the episode a pass, but like it, the spores traveled throughout the entire enterprise pretty quickly.
Starting point is 00:25:08 They have ventilation systems, that makes sense. Yeah. It does, but I'm just saying, like, if you think about spores and how that works and ventilation, that has, in order for it to like, infect that many people, that thing must be pumping out spores constantly. It has confetti.
Starting point is 00:25:26 I'm gonna, like I said, I was gonna give the episode a pass for that. However, as a comment to note that I find it funny, is that the memory alpha, the act two is probably one of the shortest act two's I've ever seen for a Star Trek episode. Whereas, it's only two paragraphs. Yeah, the act, the, the third act was way too long. Well, no, I mean, you know, I think it's just a lot of stuff happened in a short amount of time. Yeah. Yeah. And I think with act two is more like a lot of nothing happened in a very longer amount of time. So Kirk, because of plot armor, wasn't exposed to the flowers. He
Starting point is 00:26:07 was back to the... I think it was, was that he was angry at the time of his exposure, and that's the reason why they were saying that he wasn't infected. Yeah, he was, he angry because there were no red shirts for him to kill. That's right. That's right. That's right. There were no red shirts in this episode, by the way. No, no. I mean, if we're being honest, everybody was a red shirt in this episode. It just didn't die.
Starting point is 00:26:36 The whole point of a red shirt is to die. I mean, I interpreted as not only the death part of things, but like the stupidity part of things. That's fair. That's what's right. Right, yeah, beaming the flowers onto the ship was a red shirt move. Yeah. So Drew, I wanted to ask you this.
Starting point is 00:26:54 So with the entire crew being infected, like Kirk is constantly being like, this is mutiny, mutiny, mutiny. Like, is it really though? Like, this is mutiny, mutiny, mutiny. Like, is it really though? Like, is that really considered a mutiny if they're just like, hey, we're all infected and clearly infected? So to me, that wouldn't be necessarily the case
Starting point is 00:27:14 of mutiny more of just like, hey, something's wrong. Oh, he didn't know at the time. Kirk is not the best, most observant captain. Like, well, well-worded. Yeah. the best most observant captain. Well, well-worded. Yeah. I don't think he pays attention to much outside of his immediate circle. Yeah. Speaking of his circle, when Kirk brings back onto the ship, he realizes that Yehur had also been infected by the spores. She disabled
Starting point is 00:27:45 the communication systems, everybody beams back down to the planet. That's when he starts like putting two and two together, like all the guys that are in the lower decks, those guys like they're just screwing around according to him, like, oh, they're mutiny because like, I don't know, they're, they're not following orders, blah, blah, blah. But the minute one of his bridge officers starts like disobeying him, then he's like, oh, something's wrong. You know, it's like, wake up, man. Yeah. Like, you're, you're crew.
Starting point is 00:28:15 And here's the thing. This show has established a history of insubordination from, like, some of the, like from some of the lower decks crew. Like think about it. There's been constantly an officer that has questioned the orders of the captain in like every other episode so far. And I think that's kind of what where Star Trek has really come from was like they don't do that in most of the modern day stuff.
Starting point is 00:28:45 It's clearly, I think that's more of a thing from TOS than anything else. Yeah, I mean, because in subordination in later shows is a big deal. There's entire episodes about a court martial in subordination. Yep. So they actually go in full throttle with those. Yeah. Yeah. I'm done.
Starting point is 00:29:11 I want to give you your drew rents, your Drew's corner rents. I don't think that was the camera. I know. But I didn't want to interrupt the flow. So what would you call a drew corner? Yeah, a drew corner. And drew corner? Yeah, I want to do a whole segment
Starting point is 00:29:28 where it's just drew talking to the camera. And, you know, we can get like flashy intro for it for our YouTube channel and everything and be like this drew's head. Drawing twirling like around and there's got like a star behind it or something like that. And it just like comes to the camera, drew's corner. Well, I would think like a star with Drew's face on it
Starting point is 00:29:47 and as the star rotates, it's different emotions that Drew's showing. So happy, sad, angry. Oh, this is like something out of the 90s. Though I only know Drew to show three emotions. Happy, sad and hungry. That's all I only know as I've ever seen him show. And I've known him for a while. three emotions, happy, sad and hungry. That's all the emotions I've ever seen him show and I've known him for a while.
Starting point is 00:30:11 I suppressed the other ones like a volume. Yeah. So after a while, no one dials us on a ship. Kirk is walking around this. For some reason, the ship is dark now. The lights are off. And he sits down in a captain's chair, looks across the flowers and they shoot confetti at him.
Starting point is 00:30:30 He gets infected. He calls Spock, says, hey, I'm one of you now. It says I'm one of you now. And Spock is like, cool. You coming? And... Kirch like those flowers just did. Oh, no. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:30:53 So before that, though, like I remember correctly, and it's been like a week since I watched this, I mean, gee, maybe you can answer. Like if I remember correctly, all the truth. All the truth. No, no, all the truth. The enterprise leaves the ship at one point.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Yeah. Kirk beams down and then beams back up to the ship. Like, no. Is that correct? No, no. He was going to beam down to the ship. And he told Spock, well, no. He told, he told, he told, before that,
Starting point is 00:31:19 before that, before that, I'm talking about him. You heard it was on the ship. Well, so, so somebody else is to beam. People were still on the ship. So after Corgis infected, he caused boxing. Hey, I'm gonna go down there. I'm gonna pack a few things. So he starts packing a bag
Starting point is 00:31:37 and he opens up a secret compartment, finds a metal and all of a sudden gets angry and breaks the hold that the spores have on him. So I found that hilarious because it's like what the call has been there for four years and apparently none of them ever got angry during the four years they were there. What do you have to be angry about if, you know, apparently all you have to do is look at a medal and you get angry for Kirk, but the other columnists,
Starting point is 00:32:14 they can be there for entire four years and nothing will make them angry. Yeah, I would like to go into what that medal could be, but for whatever reason, Kirk gets angry and it breaks the hold on him. He called a spark. It was an award for killing the most red shirts. And he got angry because he realized there were no more red shirts on the ship to kill. That's it. That's our theory. That's our theory. Yes, we're running with. That's our theory. That's our theory.
Starting point is 00:32:42 That's our theory. Yes, we're running with. You guys can have the theory. I'll be good. I'm just sorry. In Doldes, Magi. Thank you. I love when you indulge me.
Starting point is 00:32:54 So, Kurt calls Spock. Say, hey, Spock, I need some help. Can you come up to the ship? Because if you don't come up to the ship now, and I beam down, we'll never get back to the ship. We could never be back up here. So, Spock comes up and Kirk tries to, I don't know, gaslight him.
Starting point is 00:33:14 It was Kirk gaslighting Spock and making him angry. He was calling him a pointy-ed bastard. Yep. And trying to fight it was. Yeah. So, after which Spockets the whole broken and then they science the hell out of it through a mini montage and they beam down. Whatever, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:33:36 listen, however they fix this problem was similar to to the plot point of the Kingsman where they have these radio waves and it makes everyone angry. Drew have you point of the Kingsman, where they have these radio waves, and it makes everyone angry. Drew, have you ever seen the Kingsman? I have not. Okay, so there's a plot point of the Kingsman. And this is probably a spoiler alert, but the movie came out like seven years ago. So we're okay. Yeah, I just want to say this point.
Starting point is 00:34:01 There were a raise or signals from the cell phone satellites. It made everyone rage out and they just started fighting each other. So that's what this whole resolution reminded me of. I'll say you have to see that. I can definitely say that, but you that actually is pretty simply. So then you could say the Kingsman actually stole it from this episode. Right. Star Trek Walk. So Kingsman can run. No, no, Drew.
Starting point is 00:34:34 I mean, I'm not going to just do it. It's a really good movie, buddy, especially if you're a span of a span, if you're a fan of spy movies. I'll have to check it out. It's been on my list of movies to say I wanna watch, but never actually watch for a long time. Yeah. And that was it. You know, problem resolved, all within the nice 45 minute
Starting point is 00:34:58 runtime, then as a mini-appolog, they beam Kallomi back to the ship, and they have a heartfelt moment. Oh, and Spock says, hey, yeah, I was happy for a while, and now I'm no longer happy because I'm not on drugs. That was the episode. So does some of this episode, shall I continue with you?
Starting point is 00:35:25 Yeah, please, you do some of your episodes staying pretty well. And I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm totally gonna mess this one up. To some of this episode, the tire crew is kind of a part of the last of us episode, but in some ways not, I guess, Spock gets sad and Kirk can't kill enough Richards. I feel like you stretched on that one, but I'm not.
Starting point is 00:35:49 Yeah, I get it. I don't have anything better. I don't have anything better either. So Drew, I have one, I have one, Brad. To some of this episode, who needs food when you have drugs? Boom. to some of this episode, who needs food when you have drugs? Ooh. Ha. Every single moment I saw a spot like stone out of his mind my immediate thought was That song learning I did
Starting point is 00:36:31 Ballard of Bilbo The entire time every time I saw like spot being like super high out there. I was like oh Yeah, the baller to Bilbo back in yeah, what is what is that? Yeah, the baller to Bilbo back in. Yeah, what is what is that? Oh, that is that is delightful. That is something that you will probably want to share on our Twitter page. The Ballad of Bilbo bag. I posted it in our discord. All right, it is delightful. Can you watch this now? Because yeah, watch this now, wouldjid. I want real-time reactions. In the middle of the earth, from the land of a charlots, a brave little hobbit whom we all admire. With his long wooden wife, Buzzy Willie Toes. He flips in a hob habit hole and everybody knows him. Bill, Bill, Bill,
Starting point is 00:37:26 Baggins. It's only a three-piece call. Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill, Baggins. The bravest little habit of the mall. So this is, this needs more pixels, I think. I saw 24 seconds of it and I'm done. It looks like traffic cam footage that you tried to zoom in on and it couldn't unpexulate like in CSI Well it is like you know 50 years from the 70s I think MeGGF to get over the crystal clarity of modern-day technology Well, I mean you can watch it on your new TV and see how it works. Maybe it'll be better
Starting point is 00:38:23 You know it's funny. I even with that new TV, I find myself just in my room watching like Plex on my phone because my wife is watching Christmas movies. We are 20 days into January guys and she's still watching Christmas movies. Well, is that, is that Hallmarks fault? Is that Hallmarks fault? Who's fault? Yes. Yeah, no, it's totally Hallmarks fault. Okay. It's it totally is. They've brainwashed people. So yeah, drew the entire time like I saw a spark being stoned out of his mind. I immediately thought of that.
Starting point is 00:39:04 And I just it could not shake that that song from my head every time. Yeah, I haven't heard that song in a while, but I am very familiar with it. And it is something else. So that's Brad's ringtone. Yeah, yeah, clearly. How did you like or dislike the way that Spock was acting with his stone emotions? Like did you find that entertaining? Did you find that infuriating or any opinions on that? I thought it was okay, honestly. So the only thing that got me kind of miffed was the fact
Starting point is 00:39:48 that he was climbing a tree. He does a little weird, right? That was weird. That he was hanging off the tree. And when Kirk tries to get his attention, he climbed down from the tree, showing his impressive upper body strength and core stability. That was impressive. Yeah, strength and core stability. That that was impressive.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Yeah, but, you know, everybody on that show is in shape. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't actually like care one way or another drew, honestly, like I've noticed though, when they have spot show emotions, depending on the episode determines on what type of emotions he tends to show for it.
Starting point is 00:40:28 And I kind of wonder if the reason why they do things like this is because they want to have the character show more emotions. like an average episode, Spock is very logical. And when they do something like this, they give him an outlet to show a much wider range for the character. Yeah, so this episode, apparently it's kind of beloved. Isn't it? It kind of beloved because Laila the actress, well, the character. The actress is, is, is, has been well received and they called her the one of the top guest stars, top 15 guest stars,
Starting point is 00:41:16 I think, according to a AV club. Okay. And people rating Star Trek episodes, they rated this one in the top 15 of Spock related episodes or Spock centric episodes, which is great. I guess throughout the run of the series we're going to get more. Well, I mean, they do kind of highlight, you know, Spock multiple times. I don't know how many times they do it. It might only be 15 times So, you know if you're ranked 15th out of 15 you're still last Yeah I'm thinking of that meme the guys chewing on the middle
Starting point is 00:42:02 Yeah, that would be a last place. Yeah, I'm third. Yeah, I mean, so I don't know. I mean, like, I don't have a point of reference that's going to be kind of interesting to pan, to see how that pans out. I don't, it ifs, if there are more than 15 Spock episodes, well, let me put this way, right? There's only 79 or so episodes of the entire run of the show. So, if a quarter of them are Spock-centric, that's 20, roughly. So, having this be in the top 15 still looks great. I think that'll list the stretch of the taffy. So having this be in the top 15 still looks great. I think that was a stretch in the taffy.
Starting point is 00:42:51 What? Wait, you just make that up? No. Is that a real turn? Yeah. Stretching the taffy? Yeah. Why is that? Do you know how you make taffy?
Starting point is 00:43:03 No. Do you know how you make taffy? No. Do you know what taffy is? It's the candy you chew on. Yeah, yes. And then what? So in order for them to make it, they stretch it. Like literally they have these giant globs of taffy. Have you not been to like mystic aquarium or something and you've been to like some of those,
Starting point is 00:43:28 you know, beach towns and can I get it? They have like Taffy making and like the window and everything. Yeah, can I get it? It's pretty big on Taffy for some reason. But why would I care to go to a place that makes Taffy and just watch and make Taffy? Well, you go to a candy shop because you have a kid where you like candy
Starting point is 00:43:48 yourself and they make candy in the window. You've never seen anything like this on Reddit. These videos are all over Reddit. I've seen the chocolate ones like oddly satisfying. Never taffy. I'll find you one. Well, regardless, the idea means that you're stretching something too thin. Mind blown. I kind of wish you would have just said you
Starting point is 00:44:20 were stretching the idea too thin instead of making me go through mental whooops. I mean, this was pretty fun getting there. Oh, man. I just dropped you a video of taffy making. I'm not watching it now. I'm gonna watch it now. Ha, ha, ha. Oh my god. Oh, that is so. Oh my God. Oh, that is so. Oh my God. That is so weird looking. Oh, it looks like glue.
Starting point is 00:44:58 That's how they make a lot of hard candies to eat on their right. Yeah. No, but that's soft out. But if it goes above a certain temperature or below a certain temperature, it'll harden and... Yeah. And like, Taffy tends to be on this softer side, but like, if you, any of those hard candies that you eat in order for them to like, you know, get it to a right consistency, they have to stretch it like this. I feel like we're stretching the taffy on this episode. We are.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Is that work? Is that bringing it on? Yes, it does. Nice job. If only our host would direct and drive the episode. Who's hosting? Bear-ass hosting. Who's hosting? Bear is hosting There wasn't much I didn't like about the episode by the way You know, you know, curtain smacked around the numbers. Well, no, not yet
Starting point is 00:46:02 I just wanted to you know say that I like curtain I like Kirk getting smacked around a little bit. It's always nice when Kirk gets smacked around. Did you shirt get ripped? His shirt did not get ripped. Ah! Yeah. I think they were trying to save money on this episode. So they didn't rip his shirt off, which is great. That's the given real one. They gave him a real shirt.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Is there anything you guys hated about the episode? There was some like cheesiness to it. Like you said, like worth them, spot climate tree. Yeah. The fact that there was only one woman in the entire colony for some reason. I mean, obviously they could probably have more settlers that are not shown, but it just was, it felt a little bit of a stretch to me in that sense. Yeah. They were only showed what three people on that entire colony. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:58 Um, the, uh, the flowers. Mm-hmm. Not a fan. Really? Really? They were, uh were a little unsettling. I guess they were maybe puppets or something. I don't know. It just kind of invoked like some kind of a cross between a Muppet Mystery Science Theater and the fact that they were just like, ejaculating everywhere. It was just kind of very bizarre. I would probably not use that word, but sure.
Starting point is 00:47:30 No, no, no, no, he's committed now. Yeah, no, no, I'm standing by it. I mean, you said something earlier, Brad, about the flowers also. You know, I'm not going to load, blow in the load. Yeah, yeah, there you go. All right, so let's now get into that. I rate this family friendly show folks. Let's get into that rating through Drew set words.
Starting point is 00:47:55 Drew has said words, Brad is said words. I've not said many words. I'm gonna give it a five. Hey, hey, hey, stop stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop was. I don't know. I didn't seem like he was wearing pants. I can't wait to be steps back so I can see if he's wearing pants. He's wearing pants. No, he's wearing pants. But he wore the red. The red. There's these wearing pants. Oh, okay. Oh, did it look like it wasn't? No, there was a video that they put out, they sat in my life, put out a video. It was called Cuffing Season. And it was basically, yeah, it's a funny video for me. It's like one of those parody songs about Cuffing Season and how women always wanna get into relationship
Starting point is 00:48:57 with a big guy, like his big boy season. And I see you in the sweatpants and the hoodie and all I think about is that song. It's not an insult. It's not an insult. Trust me, it's a funny song and you look really warm as all I'm saying. Yeah, thank you. I wish I was warmer than I am. Warm and cozy. My feet are always cold for some reason.
Starting point is 00:49:21 You should wear socks. I am. When's your birthday? I'm going to get you some reason. You should wear socks. I am. When's your birth, Dad? I'm going to get you some slippers. Hold on a second. I don't know if you guys, if my microphone is picking this up, but my cat is snoring so loud I can hear him from another room. No, no, I can't hear. That doesn't sound healthy. He's always done it. We've had him looked at he because This is dax by the way he he snores really loudly and doctors are just like well as long as he seems fine Like there's nothing we can do because otherwise we have to operate and that's just like senseless just let the kids know
Starting point is 00:50:04 So anyway, poor Dex. So five, I give it a five. You give it a five. All right, I see what you're doing there and I appreciate your effort for doing it, but you're not gonna gaslight me. I'm not gaslighting you. I'm giving you my ranking.
Starting point is 00:50:19 How am I gaslighting you? Because you're doing the thing that I do and then you're like, hey, Angie, can you not just jump into a number? You got a little a dramatic cost to it. Yeah, no, I'm done. This this episode was all right. There wasn't anything overly offensive about it. There wasn't anything overly great about it. I thought it was an episode. Would not stick it out. Wouldn't turn the channel if it was on.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Interesting premise, mediocre execution, five. All right. Right. Wow. So the score I give this episode is based on a couple of different factors. I think about what I really enjoy, what I really dislike, and you know,
Starting point is 00:51:03 the score I'm gonna give this episode is something that I feel is really based on the the entertainment of this episode. So the score I think that this episode should receive really thinks you'd focus on like how believe this would have been so much better if you didn't break it. Yeah, I couldn't help it. But no, I think so the episode itself is actually, I was actually entertained with it. I know I trashed it a little bit and I thought the episode itself was kind of a little ridiculous in some ways. But you know, with this episode, the score, I really feel it should get is probably a solid eight. Wow, solid eight.
Starting point is 00:51:48 Pretty high. I enjoyed it. I actually, I know I bust it, but it's a, I found it entertaining. It was better than I expected it to be. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You busted. That's the, you busted. That's the you busted. Buddy. All right. It's today we learned that
Starting point is 00:52:11 Bajee doesn't know any phrases. No, it's the it's the it's the in you windows about apparently. I that's accurate. No, he's right. I, that's accurate. No, he's right. No, he's right. Like that statue they unveiled in Chicago, the MLK statue. The embrace, the embrace. I didn't see what everybody said.
Starting point is 00:52:38 The statue was. I saw something completely different. But that's just me. Well, me and the parent of the entire internet. something completely different. But that's just me. Well, me and apparently the entire internet. Anywho. I didn't see it either. I just saw the embrace. It was like, okay.
Starting point is 00:52:53 Really? Then I had to read what people saw. I was like, oh, I guess I can see that. Yeah, no, that's the first thing I saw. Yep. I saw it in embrace. So this episode, like Drew says, it was an episode Star Trek. No, that's the first thing I saw. Yep. I saw it in Bruce. So this episode, like Drew says,
Starting point is 00:53:08 it was an episode of Star Trek. And for that, I will give it a seven. It wasn't bad. I found myself paying attention after the cold open. I found myself paying attention once the flower started spitting on people. And for that, I would give it a solid seven. It wasn't great. It wasn't, it didn't pull my attention completely. I was still playing on my phone. But it was an episode. I think that's kind of where I differed a little bit. I actually stopped playing on my phone
Starting point is 00:53:42 and watching this episode. Yeah, see, I am. I've been trying to make a more conscious effort, not to be looking at my phone when I'm watching TV, because it's a bad habit I have just in general. Yeah. And I was focused on this episode entirely. So I do feel like maybe the five is a little harsh and retrospect, but you're locked in now.
Starting point is 00:54:04 You're committed. Whatever. It's fine. I mean, the episode was fine. I don't have anything like really, truly negative to say about it, but I don't have anything like really, truly positive either. So if we're going by, you know, what an average score really is, I think a five is fine. All right. It's right in the middle. Well next week. What are we watching next week? I have no idea. Three weeks from now, I guess, right? Devil in the dark. Devil in the dark. You're in a crisis. The Enterprise ad Janis 6 where an unknown monster is destroying machinery and killing the miners, threatening the entire mining operation.
Starting point is 00:54:48 Oh, I know what this is. I don't. Yeah, you will. Don't spoil. Don't spoil. You will. Is it a choice though? I host. Is it a triple? No. No. All right. That's, that's not. Well, until then, gentlemen, let's say goodnight to the good people. Good morning. Good evening. Oh, God, you guys are the worst.
