Starting point is 00:00:00 Good evening, thank you for tuning in to yet another Star Trek podcast. I'm Brad for the evening. Oh wait, maybe the host, I'm not really sure. But as usual, we have two lovely gentlemen joining me. We have the man who is interested in getting to third base with Dave Padista, Majid, and the guy who'll be happy living the rest of his life off in the Mass Effect Universe. True gentlemen, how you guys doing there? Hey, third base, come on man. That's too much, that's too far.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Second base. I like how you combine the baseball reference and the Dave Patista reference and the sexual reference. All in one. I think he, as a nice package for you, Drew. Honestly, that may just be borderline and sexual assault. Wait, nobody. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:01:07 We should ask our lawyer friend who keeps commenting. Dave Patista doesn't want me going third base. I don't know if he wants to go on a second base. I might patista by me. That is sex. Maybe you like that, I don't know. So, I mean, just so like everyone is aware before we started recording, I was reading an article on on on the Twitter that said that Dave Batista thinks he'd maybe too unattractive for rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame- rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame rame r the Romulan episodes. And listen, all I'm saying is David T. is a good looking man. And if he has self-esteem issues, self-image issues, then we're all screwed.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Just saying. It's true. So, gentlemen, I think we would say to say that we were good in that case. But how have you guys been? It's been, I think, a few weeks for us to chat. How's everything been going? I don't know if he's been there last time, buddy. It's been a minute. It's been at least a couple weeks. Has it been? Yeah, I think so. I mean, I do like, do I get the air table? Do you know what today is?
Starting point is 00:02:17 Not our day, but the day the listeners will actually be listening to this? No, it's on air table and you know, so I'll check out your table. It's it's gonna be Valentine's Day. So to all of our no, no, no, no, I'm happy Valentine's Day. Oh, that's great. Hey, I love all you listeners.
Starting point is 00:02:34 I love you. I love you Drew and Brad, I you tolerate me. You tolerate me. I tolerate you. I love you guys too. And I love our listeners and You know what what a heartwarming story to
Starting point is 00:02:50 To listen in on like devil in the dark, you know You got this creature. They just wants to hug everybody Can can we just I want to I want to say first off is that that creature. It's a lava turtle. That's what it looks like to me. A lava turtle. A lava turtle. I have a request through when you're editing this episode. Every time we say devil in the dark, can you add like ominous music and a thunder like boom. Afterwards like devil in the dark. and they're like boom. Afterwards, like, devil in the dark.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Me, me, me, me, me. Boom. Can you do that again for me please? That's like a, like movie theater announcer guy. Devil in the dark. Bim, bim, bim. Boom.
Starting point is 00:03:39 But you have to do, you have to do it without the sound effects. You know, yeah, give me a phrase, right? In a world. In a, yeah, give me a phrase, right? In a world. In a world, devil in a dark. That's, that's, yeah, nice try. In a world where candles aren't lit, there's a thing in the darkness.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Dave, it stills downholes. What? Who's whole? Nothing. Oh, all right. Anyway, hi guys. But shall we shall we go into the episode or are you jumping on to discuss anything else? Or true has third basing of Dave Patista. I mean, David T. Steve, you're listening. You know, he's he's single, but he's not. David T. Steve, to you listening, I think you're attractive. I'm married, but I think you're attractive.
Starting point is 00:04:28 So, uh, uh, Holler Addis, uh, it's at yet another ST pod, uh, Twitter. So slide in those DMs. Also, hey, Drew has jury duty tomorrow. Maybe, yeah, maybe, maybe. No, no, no, no. I do have jury duty. I have to go to the courthouse. It's confirmed.
Starting point is 00:04:50 Whether or not I'm going to be on the jury is yet to be seen. Will you take my advice? I'm pretty sure it's going to be advice that you saw from it's always sunny. No, it wasn't. It wasn't. It was it was it was it was drew. Future proofing his his his his jury duty in the future, right?
Starting point is 00:05:11 So stick with you, Brad. It only costs him about $485 to assemble a kit. A very specific amount. A very very specific amount. But you need like the horns and the pelts and the what kind of eyeshadow was it? Urban decay. Urban decay. I feel like I know where you're going with this. Yeah. And I mean, I don't, and a megaphone. The megaphone ties it all together. The megaphone is is part of it. So are the horns. If you don't like that advice, true, if you don't want to spend the money for now. Um, true. Drew, if you do take this advice, if you need a bail money, just let me know. I will not be taking this advice.
Starting point is 00:05:52 What if you mess yourself at the jury place? When you say mess yourself with your pants. Well, could you? I mean, why don't we just take a page out of the city field handbook and I can do an upper decker? That's illegal. That's illegal. You can't say that.
Starting point is 00:06:11 That's illegal. We've gone over this. That's illegal. Is it illegal in a courthouse? Although it's only at the ballpark. Yes, it's absolutely illegal in a courthouse. I'm confused. I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Nope. Get him. Get him. Get him. Get him. Instruct get him, get him, get him. His instructions are unclear. Get him, get him. I guess that's the end of our episode, folks. You all have a good night. Anyway, Jay Drew, we can still talk about the episode.
Starting point is 00:06:37 You and I, right? If Brad drops us. All right, let's go ahead. We've been on with Brad for five minutes. He's had enough of our shit. It's all right. I haven't seen Brad. I haven't seen Brad in two weeks. Yeah, Brad, I already done all those have to find I feel like I should be handing out
Starting point is 00:06:51 to merits. You can't you don't have the rights. I I we never signed a contract saying I couldn't. Yeah, it's explicitly implied. So before we get into the episode, gentlemen, I do want to just bring up one little thing. There was a piece of news that we were unfortunately sad to see that the actress, Annie, working the woman who played the most recent board queen had passed away. And so we is a crew one to just say, we're going to wish wish for family well.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And she definitely did a fantastic job as the board queen and I'm going to miss seeing her again. Yeah, man. She had more than one role in Star Trek too. I'm not too familiar with her previous role. I think she was an enterprise. Let me see here. Well, also a lot of things outside of Star Trek as well from what a lot of the guys in the Discord chat set.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Yeah, she was an enterprise and Yeah, she was in an episode called Oasis, which was actually her first role in TV But in the Star Trek universe. Yeah, best known as the board queen for a Star Trek Picard. And she was excellent in that role. You know, I had some issues with that season and that show overall, but none of them revolved around her. I completely agree. Like to me, like it really felt like the first contact and the and the the Starchic Voyager is very similar to the way the actress has played in and those and it was absolutely wonderful. So yeah just one up offer our condolences to friends and family of Annie. We'll miss you. So this week we watched the episode, Devil in the Dark. I'm sorry. Why did you look at the camera? Why are you looking at the camera? It's true. Have fun editing this. it's going to be such a disaster.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Sorry to our lovely listeners. This is like the third time Majid has lost it and is just just a juice. Drew sent me a video about like a Clem Fandango, five minutes or a few minutes before we record it. And he's like, hey, watch this while Brad, you know, does father stuff. And I'm like, okay, this is dumb. And no, I was writing like the opening lines. Oh, I thought you were saying you're writing like your diary entries,
Starting point is 00:09:52 the diary. So the crew, the enterprise, make their way to genus six, not related to genus staplen however, just to be clear. And they are going to help miners identify a monstrous killing thing that keeps killing all the miners. It's killed 50 miners already. And apparently they haven't learned the lesson of putting one guy by himself to guard something. Because you know, if you have two or three or maybe five to guard something, that may
Starting point is 00:10:25 prevent the guy from dying, but I guess it doesn't really do anything with that one. Also adult minors and not under age minors. We should probably make that distinction. Good clarification, but to Brad's point, like, the guy was even standing there saying, like, why are you leaving me alone? And they're like, bye. We'll be back in three minutes. If you need anything, holler. And he hollered scream. And they were not back within three minutes. They were back within 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:10:54 And he was already dead. Scream at the top of your lungs if you need us. I feel like there was a flaw in some of their strategic thinking. There was no strategic thinking though. I'm trying to be polite. I mean, is that any different than what Kirk does with sweatshirts? We're gonna get to that.
Starting point is 00:11:13 I'm about. So, last 30 seconds after a guy gets set on his own. Yeah, he's no, no surprise, but, but, but the enterprise is going to be there in 45 minutes. And so they cut, you know, after the guy dies, you know, it really cares. They go cut to the enterprise crew, beaming on board. Um. You know, we have Kirk, Spock and McCoy beamed down to the planet to help figure out what they can do to assist the miners. I feel, John, I'm on that I really should
Starting point is 00:11:56 come up with some sort of nickname for this trio because it's consistently those three. So I was thinking like, Skirk. No, are they in a relationship? Are you giving them relationship name? I'm kind of, you know, it's the trio. No, no, like you only make an amount of nation of names when they're in a relationship like benefit, you know, that's that's something they're in a relationship. Not that kind of relationship. They're just in like an abusive power relationship because Kirk, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:27 physically, verbally and emotionally abuses them. Oh, I was mistaken. It's okay. It happens to the best of us. Kirk is going to go down one day for his crimes against humanity. So anyways, the, the away team meet with chief Vandenberg. I'm just going to call him chief because I'm totally gonna mess up that Vanderberger. It's just Van Derberger. Just Van Derberg. Van Derberg Van Derberg Van Derberg Van Derberg Van Derberg Van Derberg Van Derberg Van Derberg.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I said enough I said enough times that I can Mr Van I'll call Mr Van. So Mr Van. Okay. Is this like Mr Van from the 90s? So Mr. Van, is this like Mr. Vane from the 90s? Well, I was thinking more about Mr. Van is in a live in a van down by the river. Oh, to Mayor. All right. So Vanderberg explains to them that they've been, three months ago that they opened up a new section of the mine.
Starting point is 00:13:22 And ever since then, well, miners kept undying and they've lost 50 miners. They just said that waves and waves of miners. And you know what? You know what? That's the best way to do it. You got to zap ran again that crap. Yeah, and we are wait for the wait for the hard minutes. We are we are 12 minutes into our episode and we have our very first reference to Shurama. That's very impressive. Should I start
Starting point is 00:13:55 should I start adding like a chime like like a bell every time we hit the first feature on my right? Drew, Drew, I'm going tell you this, is that you're gonna think that idea is an awesome idea at the moment, right? Yeah. And then when you go through the editing process, you're gonna be like, why did I suggest this? Drew's able to edit this episode in like 20 minutes from what I understand.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! It's so simple for Drew to just like do other things. Like Drew's cooked dinner while editing the episode He's I'm gonna give you a dimaret right now. Drew's gonna. So he's gonna alter my voice, isn't he?
Starting point is 00:14:30 Gonna make it a high pitch. Still can't yeah, it's you're gonna sound like a chipmunk I mean the great thing is is that like he can isolate your audio to really make it happen since you're the one sending it over Please don't tell him how the secret sauce is made. I'm pretty sure Drew news. I mean, not like my Drew, but like, you know, the world's I'm pretty sure the world knows on this. So anyways, Vandemburg explains that the monster can't be hurt with phasers.
Starting point is 00:15:01 It's important to note that the miners have phaser type one, but apparently the enterprise had phaser type two's drew. Were you aware of that? So I was surprised that this was ever actually acknowledged on TOS. I didn't realize it was a conversation that they ever had. This is like next generation stuff. There's different models of phasers and they operate a different strings. So I knew of like the rifle.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Well, the phaser rifles, like a whole another thing, watch the first couple seasons of next gen and in season one, they start out with like the little handheld phasers. Yeah, yeah. And then the intruder alert phasers. Yeah. And then they move on to the dustbusters. Yeah. And and that's, that's the phaser type two. So the small one is type one, the handheld one, the larger one is the type two. And then the size more range more power.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Yeah, basically, yeah. And then I guess the, they don't start using phaser rifles until much later in the show, um, I'm trying to think if they actually used them in TNG or not. I think they did. That may have been deep space nine. Well, they definitely had them in DS nine. They had them in some of the movies. I want to say like season six or season seven of TNG, we might have seen them absolutely in Voyager, you know, and beyond. But the heck are you guys talking about? Nurt, different. there's different, there's different type of phasers. Yeah, they had type one.
Starting point is 00:16:28 That's why they couldn't kill the thing. That's why their guys all died. Although, if we're being honest, I think the reason the guys all died instead of like, you know, escaping from the monster was the fact that they just stood there and screamed at it. I mean, that's how I get intruders to get away from me. I scream at them.
Starting point is 00:16:49 If it works for Dragon Ball, it can work for me. Hey, Drew. Yeah. Yeah. So I get it regarding the new phasers, but some people may not. How can you tell the difference? I think what you need to do is rewind the conversation that Drew and I just had and just listen to that.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Right, but how can you tell the difference? Like if you're in the armory and you see two phasers next to each other, how do you know which ones? Well, I see, see answer above. All right. To give Majeed his, you know, ELI five response. Thank you. True gets it. True gets it.
Starting point is 00:17:32 One is bigger than the other. The look on Majid's face is just like really now. Was that the other sentence? That's it. Yeah. That's the sentence. Oh, okay, yeah, no. Guess that makes sense, right? The bigger the better. Yeah, especially if you know how to use it.
Starting point is 00:17:57 A-yo! Take a lap, take a lap, good job, buddy. Take a lap. Oh my God. Good job buddy, take a lap. While Kirk Spock and McCoy are meeting with Vanderbure, the monster attacks the colony's nuclear reactor. Yeah, it was a nuclear reactor, right guys? Something like that. Yeah, there was radiation. So, but, you know, that's the whole thing is they they they go and you know, it's box like don't captain don't touch that that hole that goes into the reactor that has acid on it. So it's probably highly corrosive. But you know,
Starting point is 00:18:41 he didn't warn the other guy because you know, why would he warn the other guy when he went in? Anyways, they find out that it's a damaged and if it can't be repaired, it's gonna be a, you know, a problem. Like, I was gonna die of like radiation poisoning. Basically. So, they context the one man in all of Starfleet who can do anything. They call Scotty. And Scotty is like, Scott is like, oh, I've heard of that reactor before. No, we don't have any parts for it.
Starting point is 00:19:13 That nobody uses that reactor. Oh, you want me to fix it? Don't worry, I got this guy's. That's more or less his reaction. Let's go. Scott use them. Scotty fixes everything Except that reactor. Except for the reactor.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Well, it's temporary fix. He band-aids the chip. He magigas it. But you know, that's neither here nor that's in the future, though, gentlemen, we're skipping ahead. So they can't repair it. They're possibly radiation poisoning. Spock suspects that this life, the reason why they haven't
Starting point is 00:19:49 detected it before is a silicone based life. Something un, you know, I think very, very radical thinking at that point. You know, think about science nowadays. I think that's a more common understanding is I think. You know, think, think about science nowadays. I think that's a more common understanding is that I think, you know, life doesn't necessarily have to be anything specific to what we're used to. It can be other life forms. Then Kirk, so this is where we're a, G, you're going to be kind of happy happy Kirk sends out a fleet of red shirts to find the creature
Starting point is 00:20:28 He's a murderer. I'm listening you guys Guys don't understand Kirk is murder or man He the fact that he never goes down for this nonsense like Like the families think of the family. You know, I can't I can't go my rant. I can't do it In Kirk's defense, only one red shirt died this episode though. I saw a whole fleet. I was expecting this whole big epic battle where they would all die, but it was only one. Only one lost his, uh, brave soul, lost his life, man.
Starting point is 00:21:00 And then Kirk did give a, he did give a very epic speech about how he wasn't going to lose any more crew members. Fair. Spock locates a new tunnel and they were able to come across and find the lava monster. Wait, I said lava monster. I meant lava turtle because that's quite frankly gentlemen. What it looked like. It looked like a giant freaking turtle. It was disgusting.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Did you see the Oriental rug friend that it had? Yeah. Yeah. Did you see the Oriental rug friend that it had? Yeah, because as it passes over, it's collecting its own dust. It has little ruffles. And that's when they shoot the monster, and they were able to pop off a piece of its armor. Like, right? It just like, pop. That was its skin, not armor. That was flesh Maybe it was a little maybe it was a little bumpy and and armory and like you know armor alike
Starting point is 00:21:52 But that was the skin. This is like genocide on on turtle creature thing I have to admit though. It was pretty funny like Spock and being was like captain don't touch that acid because you know It could be dangerous But you know the piece of that acid because you know, it could be dangerous. But, you know, the pieces getting Spock's like, you know, let me pick this shit up, man. By the way, Spock and Kirk, the moment they see the monster, they don't look at each other, they don't talk about it. They just shoot.
Starting point is 00:22:19 They just guns out. They didn't care. No remorse. Suns out guns out. I know I know Spock was like speculating at one point that this maybe like the last of its kind. It was like we could be exterminating an entire race but then he's like I'm gonna shoot anyways. Yeah well you know I mean he learns from to best. So anyway, I started blasting. So anyway, this spot of curves are blasting. Pieces skin comes off.
Starting point is 00:22:51 You know what? I'm just gonna stop. I'm sorry. He blamed Drew. He's over here talking about what Drew, listen Brad, you made a really good reference, okay? I need you to understand I have a weakness for few trauma and it's always sunny references. I know you do.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Okay, all right. Okay, I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. Are you sure? I'm good. I'm good. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:17 All right. So, Spock verifies that they are dealing with Silicon Life. Surprise, surprise. Well, that's not really a surprise anybody because you know, it's a lot much to do before. And then they try to identify ways to search for the monster and somehow Kirk does not get killed by the monster. Surprise. I think we all didn't see that one coming right. Yeah. Trapped by the main character gets trapped by the monster and doesn't die. And it just says like, yeah, you know, he holds them still,
Starting point is 00:23:50 where until Spock could arrive and then Spock does a quirky mind meld with the monster. What we also had that part where the monster like basically pissed in the dirt and said, no kill, I. Wasn't that after the my mouth the first well spotted like three my notes and like was spotted like some men talk shit again. And then and then no no kill I saw that and I was like, huh, he writes English.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Yeah. Drew, can you do the the men talk thing for me? Lovely. Sorry, Brad. He's so, he's so much. I'm okay with me. It's okay. I mean, this episode was a lot of mind melding and not a lot of happening. But turns out, go ahead. I was going to say like, like, they still have not figured out
Starting point is 00:24:46 exactly what the mind-meled is or what Spock's powers consist of. At this point, he's just one of the X-Men. Like, he's like Charles Xavier at this point. Like, they're just like, whatever the story needs, like Spock apparently can do it. It's a little weird, not a fan. You know, I think, I, you know, they're still finding their ground, but you know what, man, like they don't bring this, like they don't bring half the stuff up, like in the future. He can play guitar, modern.
Starting point is 00:25:19 We're on the 26th episode. So like by now, I would hope they would have figured they're shit out, but. He can play it. I think at that point, the TV era of the 1960s, you had things like Bewitched and Nigel Mjini and it was very like, Oh, I'm going to wiggle my nose and this happens. That's fair. Can you show me how like they wiggle their nose, Brett? Can you demonstrate? No idea. Sure, this way.
Starting point is 00:25:48 There you go. Done. I need a gift of that. Let's go into our listeners. I was giving Majid the finger. Up his nose. And in. Oh, yeah, totally.
Starting point is 00:26:00 Yeah, it was touching the brain. His long fingers. So, so Spock is my melding with the monster and is trying to identify what the heck is going to do. What the heck is going on? It's like a summer sword, a sentient peeing in a way. I could actually find something with these cracked open balls. These giant balls that the miners were handling. You did that on purpose, right? You did that for my benefit?
Starting point is 00:26:42 Yeah, pretty much. I tried so hard. Okay, okay, okay. All right, cracked balls. They were handling crack balls. They were so big. They were red. Okay, what else? Save a call they were, but sure. It turns out the miners were mishandling the notes. You can't say that. No, I knew you were going, you cannot say that. You cannot say the miners in this hand in the balls. You cannot say that, I said it. They were utilizing the insides that were actually eggs
Starting point is 00:27:19 for this creature, and that is why he was killing. Because quite frankly, these miners were killing her babies. Was it eating them? I didn't, it wasn't clear to me. No, they were using like the materials. Have you seen the price of eggs lately? Hahaha.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Well, I mean, one of those would feed like 50 men. So I guess that was probably the 50 that died. It's like that ostrich egg that we have a photo of you with Brad. Yeah. Yeah. Just just like that. You had the Horta egg. He also had a weird goatee back then.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Yep. And I'm not allowed to have anymore. So Kurt confronts the miners trying to explain, hey guys, this is what's going on. This is why you shouldn't kill this thing. to explain, hey guys, this is what's going on. This is why you shouldn't kill this thing. They, they, uh, my name is kind of come to us realization, oh my god, we are monsters. We, we didn't mean to. And they start to devise a symbiotic relationship with the lava turtle. And it turns out the lava turtle species, what they do is they lay a bunch of eggs. Only one is left
Starting point is 00:28:28 to take care of the babies and then the babies will grow up on their own. And yeah, well, the babies apparently are great tunnlers and now they have child labor. The miners are using miners to mine. We've said some questionable things over the past few weeks regarding a life. This is what we want. We've talked about throwing babies, lifting babies. Now we're talking about child labor. God, it's listen, I'm just saying it's a slippery slope, guys.
Starting point is 00:29:21 To some of this episode, I don't really remember what happened to the reactor and how it got fixed giant balls that are on the ground are more likely eggs and a lot less red shirts died in this episode that I expected. Yeah, how many how many red shirts did you expect to die? Well, seeing a whole freaking army of red shirts, I expected like five or six, but there's only one guy that died. Everyone what happens to the families of these red shirts that Kirk sends out the die. Not really. Flowers. Flowers. Do they get like a handwritten note from Kirk saying, you know,
Starting point is 00:29:48 what their decision was? So I killed your boy. Right. It was a yellow alert. I pressed the red button. Oh God. Well, gentlemen, how did you like that episode? What do you think?
Starting point is 00:30:01 What were some of the highlights of this episode for you? I expected Kirk to fight the turtle. And get his shirt ripped. I expected a fight. I expected a battle. I expected a rip shirt. And there was none of that. Drew, how about you?
Starting point is 00:30:19 Did you get disappointed? Not really. I kind of like this episode. It was nice. It was nice to do it out for you. Well, I enjoyed that, you know, despite Kirk's first instinct, it was immediately to start blasting. Eventually, eventually he came around and realized that the creature wasn't like
Starting point is 00:30:41 advancing on him to attack and it was being more defensive and found a way to communicate with it. The forest bot got involved and then the spot got involved with his magic Vulcan powers and communicated with it further. But it was kind of cool seeing, you know, I think for the first time, we really saw this, you know, empathy between two species that can't communicate with each other under normal circumstances, right? And this is the kind of story that Trek, I believe, excels in, where you have this creature whose actions are perceived to be malevolent, I guess you
Starting point is 00:31:22 could say. And in reality, they're just trying to protect their young or protect their families or protect something from the real bad, which in this case were the human colonists who were down there mining and stealing the hordes' eggs and just basically destroying her livelihood, her only reason for being. Wow, man, that totally makes this episode a lot more tragic than... Yeah, I was in ready for it being that heavy. Thank you, Drew. I appreciate it. On a lighter note, one of the things I really enjoyed was in the beginning, the Vanderburg, like, it's like, hey, I gotta show you where everything is.
Starting point is 00:32:13 And not like a screen or a computer, they pull out these maps that are just like in the wall. And they're like, this is where it is. And I'm just like, man, that's cool. They don't get Wi-Fi down there. Pain in the ass, so try to figure out how to get like between levels. Sounds like those bad. It was a pretty cool map. I enjoyed the map. The way it like came out of the wall. Yep.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Yeah. There was a lot of... You'll be able to go back for you in your house, Joe. Well, I don't have the right kind of walls, the right kind of depth to put that sort of thing. I can help So Majeed's volunteering on On a renovating your house true only if I get to wear a tank top and short shorts to I blow out some walls
Starting point is 00:32:57 Because it's the only way I can get like proper movements. So gentlemen, tell me what are your thoughts on the love of turtle Like we're how you guys feeling about that? Fantastic of a costume that they had that monster person in crawling around, I guess. Where's this maybe a dog? It was definitely a man. Definitely a man under a rug with a bunch of shit tape to it. You know what? I thought it worked. I thought the guy, whoever they had under that costume, I thought, did a very effective job
Starting point is 00:33:34 of scuttling around like an alien. It was fun. It was fine for what it was. It was like, it really like scuttled, right? Like, he say scuttled, all I think is this way work sound Who I know well, I'm fully aware but I don't know I thought it was fine. I thought it was fine It look cool. It looked it looked good enough. Let me put that way. It looked good enough. It was certainly better than the corn
Starting point is 00:34:02 Oh God yeah light light certainly better than the corn. Oh God, yeah. Light light years better than the corn. You know, you know what it kind of, it kind of for some reason reminded me of that goo monster that killed Tasha Yarr. Armus. Armus, bro. I don't even I know that. No, you don't.
Starting point is 00:34:21 I do know that because we've been talking about armists on Twitter for the past couple of days. I know that. No, you don't. I do know that because we've been talking about armistone on Twitter for the past couple of days. It's been on a lot of the Riker posts. Riker's biggest Twitter. Oh, it's the pitch. The pitch that I made for you? No, that was like weeks ago, but armistone.
Starting point is 00:34:40 You just been talking about it for weeks. No, but it's been talked about on Twitter for a while. Like, Riker has been blowing up on Twitter just because he's always blown up. Yeah, Riker, Riker's always blowing up. This is nothing new. People didn't just discover Riker. Riker, Riker has been me more than four years.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Right. Riker has big D energy. Yes. And he's not afraid to use it. Drew, you have big calf energy, which is difference. I would say it makes you sweeter as a person, but definitely not as confident as Reiker. Well, that's why I'm growing this beard out.
Starting point is 00:35:17 So I'm trying to cultivate the Reiker beard and see if it gives me that big, big D energy that he has. No, you have, again, you have big calf energy, not big D energy. Oh, you don't want to, you have the walk into a room in Ona. You have to sweep your leg over the chair or sweep your leg over the bench when you are in the gym. So it drew you need to buy lower chairs.
Starting point is 00:35:41 What if I just lower the chairs? Like just cut soft the legs. Yeah, or in the case of this chair. Do you know, I was gonna say that you was gonna ask you if you owned a saw and would your wife be okay with you sawing the legs of chairs? To be honest with you, I could probably just like swing my leg over the top of most of the chairs in the South. Anyway, because you know, partially because of the cast. I'll tell you, I could probably just like swing my leg over the top of most the chairs in the south anyway, because you know partially how tall you I'm six to I didn't know this That should that high sorry I I couldn't resist sorry I love you happy valentine today
Starting point is 00:36:21 I Would like to see you kick your leg over a chair. Can you do that? Like the day that you go record or to edit this episode, can you record a video of yourself with like epic music and you and slow motion, kicking your leg over the chair and then sitting down to edit the episode? Like, can that's something you can do for me? No. And then sitting down to edit the episode like can that's something you can do for me? No
Starting point is 00:36:48 The look on his face is like what the fuck are you talking about? So what if I don't post it to Twitter? Can you at least post like send it to me so I can look at it? No Can you video call me and then like put your phone Somewhere and then I could watch you do it now make my own music? It's gonna be like just a crotch shot. I am not complaining. Listen, this is an negotiation. I mean, don't get what I could get. We'll have to it offline. You know, we haven't done it.
Starting point is 00:37:32 We haven't talked about the review for this episode. Pivot to the root through the... It was a hard pivot. That was a fast and furious pivot. All right. So, so, Mr. Mr. descriptive in telling us like his true thoughts and feelings of the episode before he gives the number Majeed, what is your thoughts on this episode followed by after like maybe three, four minutes of your thoughts? Then you tell us the number. So Brad's has given me instructions
Starting point is 00:38:08 and throwing shade of the very exact same time. Oh, there's so much shade coming from Brad today. It's so shady. Brad wants like nothing to do with any of our BS today. God, Brad is so done with this. He's like 30% meeting. I feel that our listeners would like to hear your thoughts and opinions. Right.
Starting point is 00:38:27 And you be the giant real deal. You get the number for you. You get like 30 minutes less sleep in your 30% meaner to me. But it's okay. Well, you know what, in my defense, it apparently has not been so bad that I have not been given a dimirid all episode. I gave you a dimirid like the top of the episode. You said a dad joke.
Starting point is 00:38:47 I didn't. You didn't give me any merit. Demurred. True. Is it possible for you at this point? You're nearing a process to. Damn it. No.
Starting point is 00:38:57 All right. It's fine. Listen. So this episode, um, it didn't hold my attention through the first and second acts. My, well, actually, no. My attention was held when Spock and Kirk went full, which Cassidy and the Sundance kid on the Turtle Monster. When they just, but I'll even look at each other, just shot, like they were in a Will Smith movie with Martin Lawrence.
Starting point is 00:39:27 That's when it held my intention. And I kinda saw how it was gonna end up, it was gonna be, oh, okay, well, the monsters are actually our friend. And maybe the murders were just the friends we made along the way. I saw it coming and I was still interested. It was still pretty good.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I expected more, right? I wanted the shirt ripped. I wanted Kirk to fight the lava monster somehow, put in a sleeper hold. Ever since I- Have his shirt ripped, yeah. So ever since I learned about Kirk Foo all all of 24 hours ago, I've been wanting to see Kirk Foo and everything I do. Brad, you missed it. I'll just give you
Starting point is 00:40:13 the TLDR version. Kirk Foo is how they lovingly refer to the fighting style Jim Kirk uses throughout the episodes of the original series. They're super slow motion. Kind of his no, it's just his fighting style entirely. Like the moves he employs and everything. It's called Kirk food. I also know judo chops. Everything that he does every move, every form, it's called Kirk food. It's I wish I could make this up.
Starting point is 00:40:41 I'm not. But how do we rate these episodes again? Was it on like a scale of one to ten? Yeah, I think you had a new suggestion of Was it Yeah, right. So but was it like numbers from one to ten though? One to one to ten. Okay. That's how long we haven't done this so Out of ten
Starting point is 00:41:01 possible spot hands I would give this six and a half spot hands. Should I explain what I mean by spot hand, by the way? Oh, no, no, no, we understand completely. You understand. Everybody understands completely. I don't mean like Leonard Nimoy's hand or Ethan Peck's hand or the guy from Heroes hand like the actual like Vulcan symbol. So yeah, yeah, yeah, you're doing the
Starting point is 00:41:33 live long and prosper symbol. I get it. Yeah, so six and a half of those. Well, okay, well, um, thank you. I appreciate the six and a half Spock hands. Uh, okay, well, thank you. I appreciate the six and a half Spock hands. True, how about you? Well, I enjoyed this episode, and it kept my attention most of the time because I was compelled to find out like why this guy was so stupid to leave
Starting point is 00:41:59 one member of the mining crew at a time in a place that was known to be like, you know, lethal to the men. He's like, oh, we've lost over 50 men. It's like, yeah, but did you leave them alone 50 times? Like, come on, man. Like, come on, dude. legally, I don't think he had to answer that question. Well, when he goes to trial next to Kirk, then we can talk about it. If Kirk has the same, if this guy uses the same lawyer that Kirk has, he's going to be fine. That guy that read all the books and was considered weird.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Right. Yeah. So where do you think you fell in this one, man? Yeah, I mean, like, I like this episode. I thought it was fun. It was, you know, the hoarder is a classic character. And it was kind of good to see it finally come to life, and because I've never seen the story before. I think I'm going to give this, I don't know, seven and a half Horta eggs. What? What?
Starting point is 00:43:05 Are you gonna like is this gonna be an ongoing thing where you just like rate things out of Horta eggs or would it change from episode to episode? You'll have to wait till next week to find out. It won't be next week. You'll have to wait for two weeks to find out. Damn. Well, that's... I can definitely see your perspective. I'm a little different than you, Majid, where I actually was more interested in the first two acts than like the third and the fourth kind of telekinesis spockery, I should say.
Starting point is 00:43:50 That kind of, that was a little bit ridiculous. I did like the McGyver of Scotty, just you know, McGyvering up that reactor and then never talking about it, whether or not it was gonna be fully repaired. You know, that was kind of, it was interesting. The eggs though, that I kind of actually call that, when I first saw the giants like ball of whatever, I was like, that's a neck. That's gonna be a-
Starting point is 00:44:18 Oh yeah, 100%. I know what Drew, when you talked about like the creature, I honestly don't even really ever recall talking about it. Um, in any of the shows or in any of the games we played. So like this was something of a new, like a new creature for me. So I wasn't really too familiar with it. We definitely had it in Star Trek timeline. So I remember that much.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Uh, probably wasn't a very good character though. Of course, yeah, yeah. It's not something that I would be like, oh man, I really want that character. I really want to play with that. No, but yeah, but I mean, like, I don't know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it, but I could swear that that character has a little more popularity than that.
Starting point is 00:45:03 I'm pretty sure, but overall the episode, it did hold my interest. I felt a few things were kind of ridiculous, but it didn't detract. And so I'm gonna give it a seven warp cores. Wow, look at you and your rating system. I don't like this. I don't like this. I don't like this.
Starting point is 00:45:28 It's something I did that was, what I thought was cute and unique, you guys have abused it. I mean, it's not like we're trying to gaslight you or anything, buddy. You are absolutely our gaslighting, that's why you get it to merit. True, you're okay.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Absolutely, our gaslighting mean that's why you get it to merit true. You're okay Well, then you know that that is my demerit of the episode. That's two to Mary spread. You're at two to Mary's I'm pretty sure that's one, but that's two for for counting I mean, you know, I just so you know Two comes after one and we only got to one. So, you know, we'll figure that out. Now then he's right. The math. You know, math checks out. Two does kind of the one. Anything else you guys want to talk about? Happy Picard. Happy Picard season three and two days as of this episode. Yeah, wait what? Picard season three. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:25 Picard season three will air two days after this episode, heirs. So February 3rd, 16th. 16th. Oh, after this episode, heirs. Yeah. 16th. So, uh, oh, you know what, I don't. You don't know what Picard season three is.
Starting point is 00:46:41 It's a, it's the third season of the show based on Bacard as an old man and a grape farmer. The one thing I wanted to actually say is that I don't know how long this promotion is going on for for our listeners, but if you have T-Mobile, you can apparently get Paramount Plus for one year for free through T-Mobile. They've been doing that for a while, haven't they? I don't know. I just find out the other day and I signed up for it. You should check our discord more. I was leaching off true and whatever drew got. So no, I have my own, now I have my own account. So we don't encourage password sharing. That's not encouraged, folks.
Starting point is 00:47:18 If you can see the look on Brad's face, he can't make eye contact with the camera. He's, he's fibbing. He is lying. He's lying. But anyways, you can get it one year free through T-Mobile. They're not paying us. Yeah, they're not paying us. So I'm not gonna, I don't want to advertise them. Okay. Well, anyways, I'm looking forward to season three of Picard, even though I was very disappointed with seasons one and two. Yeah, me too. I'll be honest. They're kind of rowing everybody.
Starting point is 00:47:56 I was like, I, okay, I feel, I feel like chip, spoil alert. Yeah, yeah, man, I haven't even finished the first episode of season one. We talked about this. I fell first of all, Majid that season has been over for well over a year at this point. So I'm sorry, but you're kind of out of luck. No, it doesn't work that way. It does. It does. It does. There is a stature of limitations. There's a stature limitation when it comes to spoilers. Where's our lawyer friend? I'm going to ask you limitations on spoilers. I don't know. We'll find out in two weeks when she's able to listen to this episode and tell me, but I think you're wrong. Like with a movie like the usual suspects that came out in 1995, you can say, yeah, it was Kaiser Soci the entire time that whatever his name is.
Starting point is 00:48:45 I haven't seen that movie. Well, that's too bad because that statute of limitations on spoilers for that movie have expired because it came out almost 20 years ago. Like that's good. Same thing goes for seven. And the head in the box, it was actually Brad Pitt's cousin. That cats out the bag. All right. I never saw seven. So I don't know whose head was in box. I assume it was his cousin
Starting point is 00:49:14 because he was pretty upset about it. Yeah, I'm looking forward to season three of season three of the part that you see you look forage and I can see Troy and, oh, Beverly Crusher too, man. Hey, Brad, so can I, can I, I, I, I, I don't want you to tell me what you think of season three of, of Picard because you have this way of ruining shows for me. And I, I, I, here's what I mean. Season three of discovery, episode one, the day after it aired. You're like, ooh, I don't know. This is gonna be a pretty weak season. And I, that's, that, no, that was me.
Starting point is 00:49:54 That was Brad. Did I say true? That's, that's, no, you said, he said, you said me, but I'm pretty sure that was legitimate statement that it was a pretty weak season. Right, but the thing is you I was so destined, I was so like just ready to prove you wrong. And then the rest of the season happened.
Starting point is 00:50:11 I was like, Oh, God. So I wouldn't typically when that happens, when somebody says like, Oh, man, it's like really bad. What happens for me? Is that actually lowers my expectation so low that I'm like, Oh, cool. When I watch it, I'm like, oh, yeah, cool when I watch it. I'm like, oh, it wasn't that bad. Your mind works weird. Sure.
Starting point is 00:50:32 How about you? Which way do you kind of fall in that spectrum? If somebody says something's like, kind of, it is not that great. Would you, would you take the road of Majid, take my road or do you take your own road to Neverland? It depends entirely on what it is. If it's something Star Trek related, I'm going to make up my own mind anyway.
Starting point is 00:50:54 If it's something that's not, it could dissuade me from watching it entirely. That's a fair. Wow, that's fair. Yeah, so I mean, there's shows that I've heard, like, weren't great that I was interested in, that I've basically forgotten about at this point that I never saw. You see, like, to me, though, even with those, I have to watch the first episode to least try it out.
Starting point is 00:51:18 I won't do that because if I watch the first episode, then I'll feel compelled to watch the rest of them. And if the show's not that good, I don't want to waste the time and the effort. So like, for example, the Dexter reboot, like, I've actually heard good things about it, but the ending of the original run left me so sour on it that I just, I don't want to be heard again. I, I, I can relate with that because I didn't watch the last season, specifically because of that. Right. Well, there you go. You guys have a watch. I left it. Yeah. Of course.
Starting point is 00:51:53 Apparently better call Saul had a better, no, I mean, it was Forget the ending the show is excellent from beginning to end. I'll I it's still something I still want to watch so you're not gonna be able to that one I'm totally gonna watch when I get a chance. Yeah, I mean when the baby turns 18 maybe Well, good news is it'll still be very 18 years from now. I know. And now she's sleeping two, three hours straight. So I actually have time at night. Is that a brag? Because that's not, that's not great. Should we sleep at all night? Right? No, no, I mean, between like seven and 10 and then she sleeps from like 11 until 7 a.m.
Starting point is 00:52:45 But didn't you tell me, I mean, so when do you, like, when she's sleeping, how much time are you taking to cry and recover from the rest of your emotional damage from your workday and stuff? I mean, I usually just do that at work. Do you go to a private room or do you just do it at your desk or in the car? I work at home.
Starting point is 00:53:11 So just make sure the cameras turned off. I feel like our listeners are probably hearing magi like drown in his attempt to comment on something. I, and it's just very sad. No, the answer is running out of gasoline, the gas light you with. No, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm in so much shock. I just want to ask Brad if he's okay. I feel, I feel like.
Starting point is 00:53:42 Majeed is like thinking about his time as like a first time dad is comparing my experience and is like, shit, man, my daughter didn't sleep that long. Man, I'm jealous. Hmm. No, she slept. She slept. Yeah, she slept good.
Starting point is 00:54:03 I used to get upset because I would come up from work and she was like taking a nap and I'd be like, I wanna wake her up. Apparently, just like sleeping dogs. She would go in her room and just like look over her crib and like start breathing heavily and be like, wake up, please wake up. That came out a little more creepier than you thought
Starting point is 00:54:23 or intended it would So Drew can you edit that out? No, all right Hey, man. I I stand by my embarrassment. I think that's a badge of honor The baby baby tossing in all the amount of editing that this episode requires already Is tossing in all the amount of editing that this episode requires already is usually I don't give a cry right so instead of it taking 20 minutes gonna take 25 mark for edit not don't mark for edit just this is just do a little like bleeping sound it's funnier that way no no he's just gonna make you sound like a squirrel the entire
Starting point is 00:55:04 time like bleeping sound is funnier that way. No, no, he's just gonna make you sound like a squirrel the entire time. All right, what's the next episode? Aaron, Aaron of Mercy is the next episode, right? The next episode is Aaron of Mercy. Kirk and Spock try to protect the planet the planet, or Gania from the Klingons, but the natives don't want Federation help. Is that one of the classics true that you were looking forward to? I don't know, but I'm I'm the host, so he's going to find out. Somehow I've managed to somehow I've managed to not get any good episodes.
Starting point is 00:55:43 All right, so I'll watch it tonight So we go out so we get record tomorrow and then I'll see you guys tomorrow. I have I have jury duty. Maybe I gave you I gave you so much advice Just takes like one of them see see here's the thing you keep saying maybe But it's not maybe I have to go to court I just might not have to stay. Maybe. Well folks, I'd like to thank everybody for tuning in to yet another Star Trek podcast.

Starting point is 00:58:06 It's free and we appreciate it. Thanks for listening, we'll see you next time. Good evening. Thank for tuning in. Shit. I forgot the interview just like the GD Blasphice. What the... I was paving my three seconds ago. Okay, all right, okay, okay, okay. It was like one of those moments where I was like, where am I? I just behaved like three seconds. I was paving, I didn't do anything. I was ready. I was ready.
Starting point is 00:59:01 And I looked over at my screen as Brad was doing that. And okay, okay, okay, okay, okay All right Five four How do I lose my shit? Did you just take your arm? It's like me you realize I'm just scratching my arm. What is this problem? Is it cuz I'm flexing? Is he, okay? Yeah, let's let's go I should probably blame Drew.
Starting point is 00:59:46 Yeah, you're gay. Right, right, right, it's a, it's a cool, stay cool, stay cool. No way, it knows your high, it's your high. It's a, five, five, four, three. Good evening and think fruit. This is not, this is not golf. You can't just keep taking give me. I.
Starting point is 01:00:11 I. It's fine. Make me last too much. Hmm.
