Well, I'll retell the story.
I'll just retell the story.
No, no.
Yeah, we'll just not cut it.
You know, cut it.
You think we deleted it?
Cut it.
Cut it.
I'll retell it.
Okay.
I'll retell it.
And actually cut it.
Don't leave both versions.
Okay.
All right.
Cougar, don't fuck with me on this.
No, we're not.
We don't fuck with people.
All right.
No, no, no.
We're serious here.
All right.
It's a serious podcast.
Hey, we're doing Japan.
Yeah.
And we were talking about peer pressure.
And you were saying that I'm the, wait, why did you say?
Is this before the theme song or after?
Oh, I don't know.
You tell me.
You keep going and we'll talk.
Well, you, you cue the theme song and I'll talk what we were just talking about.
Okay, Japan.
Which was you were saying, no, no, no, before Japan, you were saying that I'm an asshole with peer pressure.
You are an asshole with peer pressure.
Yes.
And then you want to do a theme song and then come back?
No, I can, we can keep, we can do it how, I don't give a fuck how you do it.
No, I know you don't give a fuck.
Yeah.
What do you prefer?
Oh, I think we talk about the peer pressure and then go to the theme song.
Okay, do it open.
Okay.
I met my match with peer pressure.
Oh, yeah?
Yeah, with Tony.
Hitchcliffe.
No.
Where you've been and where you're going.
This is our race travel show.
Yeah.
We're going to talk about travel today.
It's you'll be tripping, yeah.
Oh, because he injects guilt into it.
So he'll start with like, don't be a pussy.
And then he'll start being like, like, oh.
never want to hang out with me.
I'm like,
this is better.
What are you talking about?
You've already livened it up a lot.
Yeah, I'm like, what are you talking about?
I get shit face with you all the time.
Multiple nights a week.
Yeah.
What are you talking about?
And he's like, okay, okay.
And I buckle every time I have four more drinks than I want to.
I do two more shots than I want to.
And anytime I've complained about it to anybody,
they go, fuck you, you're a peer pressure asshole,
and you deserve all the peer pressure you get.
That's true.
No one has sympathy on.
that because you are that guy?
I, I, which,
which telling do you think was better?
Second one.
I think, because.
Guys, you just saw workshopping.
Yeah.
Because I added the, you added the physical.
That is his exact movement.
That's his exact movement.
Yeah.
Fine.
All right.
He loves, he always does that movement.
The head shake.
Yeah.
Yeah.
My favorite is when he gets annoyed with somebody.
Yeah.
Who's just somebody.
that's just talking
He has no time for it
He doesn't know
It's just a wasted person
Eventually he'll just go
What are we doing here
What is going on
Him and East Austin
Him and East Austin
Because he hates
What he thinks might be
Too liberal or whatever
He goes
I'm like wait is there a fight
Yeah yeah I don't like the fight
You're like whoa
Okay
All right
We're going to go to Japan today
Japan run the music
Where you've been
And where you're going
Hello, everybody.
Welcome to Eubachryfone.
The only podcast that has more to prepagos.
I just thought the funniest,
the funniest, like, insulting Asian impression is,
because you just make every word an R for no reason.
You know, you're like, a r-ro-ra-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-kast.
No, no, they say P.
They don't.
Procour.
It's all ours.
Yeah.
Anyone who's going to write it and I was like,
I'm very absurd.
Absurd.
Do you remember, do you remember?
Yeah, no, I one quarter apologize for all that you just saw.
You weren't in New York.
You weren't in New York back at this time.
But Russ Meneve, who's one of my favorite guys ever in comedy.
Yeah.
And one of my favorite comics ever.
He had this joke.
It's one of my favorite jokes of all time.
It was one of the best well,
the one's well written jokes I've ever heard.
But he,
there was a big news story in New York,
an Asian dude,
got stuck in an elevator for eight hours.
Yeah.
And it was this big news story.
And Russ had a joke about it where he goes,
how,
he goes,
you think he was stuck in there for eight hours?
Because he kept trying to find the R button for lobby.
And then,
and then he would go,
come on, people,
that joke's hilarious.
And he goes,
Even the Asians are rafing at it.
It's like, wow, that is an airtight joke.
I love my people don't give.
You've never been to Japan?
No, it's definitely high in my list.
It's the most people are the most surprised I haven't been there.
As am I.
It's a great place.
You went once?
Once and only for three days, but I really got the most out of it.
You were telling me about it once.
It seemed fucking tits.
It actually was one of the reasons I wanted to go.
It's an amazing city.
You and I were trying.
to go together.
We were trying to figure out
like gigs
that we could at least
make enough money
to just pay for the trip.
There was a run.
Tokyo Fukuyama
and then be like
we could do a week
in between and have some fun.
Well I was talking to Tom Roads.
Yeah, we were talking to 7B
we're like, let's make this happen.
Yeah.
I was talking to Tom Rhodes today.
Yeah.
And he's going to Tokyo tomorrow.
And he was like, dude,
I'm going to Thailand after.
He goes, there's a run in Thailand
where you can actually make a couple bucks.
He goes, I'll hook you up with that guy.
Because I was like, yeah, dude,
all I want to do is be able to
go and I just wanted to be a free trip.
I don't care if I make money.
I just don't want to lose money.
Plus, I don't know if anybody knows this,
but if you go,
even if you only make $500 for the whole trip.
Why are you holding your nose like that?
You still look like a Jew.
I'm getting to it.
Okay.
I'm not pushing it down.
This is when I'm hiding it.
This is a Palestine march I came across.
This is advice.
The entire trip is tax deductible.
Why are you holding your nose like that?
To accentuate that I know what I'm talking about.
Who does that?
Does somebody do that?
I have a hat on.
You don't see my horns.
Get my good side.
The whole trip is,
it is tax deductible, I guess, right?
If you do one gig, yeah.
So when did you go?
Yeah, when did you go, what are you expecting?
Tell me everything about it.
Well, I went, and I'm blanking on the kid's name that used to run it,
but this kid over there had this gig.
Well, one of the guys was named JJ.
JJ, JJ, I'm still in touch with.
He was the Tokyo guy.
But there was another kid, I can't remember his name, but he was a very nice kid,
but he had a run in China.
So he booked me first because he was like, I know you've been over to China before.
We talked about it last time.
Yeah.
He said, do you want to come back?
And I said, yeah.
And then he said, there's this guy I can hook you up with in Japan if you want to go to Japan.
Yeah, they all know each other.
Seems out they all know each other.
Yeah.
And I was like, I definitely want to go to Japan.
And my main motivation at the time was, it seems stupid,
but there's a video game district in Japan.
That's what you told me about.
Yeah.
And I was, that was when I was super into collecting.
Yeah, for someone who doesn't know this,
we had to talk, me and Joe, about finances at the comedy store once.
And you were like, had just finished a writing job.
The next one wasn't coming.
That's the joys of freelance work.
But like, you're like, I think I got a downsize.
I got to save money.
However, I think I can move to a bigger apartment
because I needed an entire room for my video games.
Yes.
Yeah, yeah.
I don't know if you know what downsize is.
By the way, I am looking at houses right now
because I don't have enough space in my apartment
for my media collection.
You had my records.
Yeah, yeah.
So I was super into game collecting at the time.
I've tapered off a lot in the sense that, like,
I only collect now for very specific systems.
But at that time, I was collecting.
for like, I don't know, seven different retro systems.
And I was like, Tokyo is the place, there's a video game district.
District.
And there's a, there's a video game store, I think it's called in English, and that,
people were like, it's the greatest video game store on Earth.
Yeah.
And it truly was, and I'll get to it, but like, it was, it literally, I was like, this was worth,
every dime I made on the show.
Hold it then, yeah.
Every dime I made on the show, I spent in that store.
Every penny.
Every penny.
They're so fucking weird.
It's just like they have everything for everybody and it's all like toy based.
Is that right?
Yeah, there's.
So Tokyo is so big.
People told me this before I went.
They said you could be there for a full month and you still wouldn't see the entire city.
I've never seen anything like it.
The city is nuts.
Like it is, it's, it's like a futuristic city.
It's huge.
It's fucking huge.
And there's all these districts dedicated.
Like New York is amazing because New York has, you know, there's the jewelry district and there's
restaurant row and whatever.
But it's one street.
Right.
Two streets.
Tokyo, it's like five square blocks of, it's like a true district of like this is all that you're
going to find in this one area.
So it's nuts.
thing about some other places in China was like this too the district things where it's like
here's the shoe district and it's just 75 shoe stores in a row yeah and i want to be like bro i can make
you a not third world country if i just hey shoe people yeah go to the hardware area yeah be the one
shoe guy in the hardware district yeah it's weird like i don't know if there's i i would doubt well there
might be laws there might be uh retail laws where you're not allowed to do that but i don't know but also
So Japan is an incredibly proper and polite culture.
Extraordinarily polite, which I was not ready for.
I was taken aback at how polite people were.
There were, so the first thing I experienced was,
I was using Uber to get around.
And of course, it's all in Japanese.
So what I would do is, is I would just hope for the best
and like, fucking Asia.
You really do.
Just have to hope for the best.
You know, and like, you'd order an Uber or sometimes I'd flag a cab,
and I would just hold my phone up and just point.
They knew that you didn't speak the language.
They can look at you.
And I would have a trans.
Yeah.
I'd have a translator or something.
Yeah.
Yeah, you literally.
Are you an Albarno?
It's not going to get old.
Yeah.
You don't.
Yeah.
You're a right, man.
Yeah.
Yeah, you don't look like anybody there.
It's crazy.
It's cool to not be in a melting pot where you're like,
no, you can tell who's here and who's not.
Hey, everybody, today's episode of Yuba Chippers
brought to you by Amantara.
They make products from Amanita Muscaria.
Fucking Wild, who's sponsoring podcast now.
It's nuts.
I mean, but also,
it was supposed to go, like,
it started with, like, sex stuff, like fleshlights.
and now we're just
mushrooms?
What a world we're in.
Anyway, the people at Amitara
have figured out how to make
Ammonita mascara into something
you'd actually want to take.
You've always wanted to take that.
Gummies, tinctures, capsules, even chocolate.
Not even chocolate.
That's one of the ways to take it.
People report, okay, I'm going to have some pushback on this.
People report that it helps them wind down.
Get genuinely a deep sleep.
Yeah, okay.
And some say vivid dreams.
Some say vivid waking states.
Others say it just takes them
at the edge of a day
that had way too many edges.
Some people refer to it as
nature's wine or nature's Xanax.
Guys, I've taken these at a music festival in England
and I fell asleep in a teepee.
I came on pos a teepee.
And there was a sign-out set,
said, wandering souls take a load off.
And I did.
And I fell asleep in there.
Someone else came in later and was like, is someone in here?
I kept my mouth shut.
Adventures.
I don't know about this winding down.
Anyway, it's not just Amanita.
They've got Blue Lotus Gummies if you're just something floaty and then we've got relaxing
Kana if you want a mood lift plus Lionsman, Rashi, Quarterships.
It's a whole botanical lineup.
There's lots of companies out there selling Aminita on a label selling you basically nothing.
Amatara is one of the only ones that actually doing this right.
Real potency.
Real sourcing.
It won't look like this.
They've got the best prices in the wildest selection on the market, period.
Okay.
But what about a promo code?
Well, here's one.
Go to amantara.com
slash go slash tripping and use the code tripping 22 for 22% off your first order.

Bert's been there and he doesn't even get high.
Guys, everything at Indicloud is federally legal hemp THC lab tested and shipped discreetly to your door.

All right, let's get back to the episode
But like the cab drivers and Uber drivers
If they didn't know
I guess it was cabs because Uber would know from the map
The cab drivers if they didn't know
They would like repeatedly apologize and bow
And be like, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry
And you're like, it's okay man
Don't worry about it. Like it's cool
I don't need to go to the hospital
You know like
So that was the first thing I noticed.
I was like, man, they are polite here.
And then the first day I was walk, like, I got to the place I was trying to go to and I was walking
and everybody single file lines up at the stoplights.
No, really?
Yeah.
That's so much different than New York.
It's crazy.
Like, it's amazing.
Like, it's like, there's a stoplight.
You're waiting for the walk sign.
And they just, people line up single file and you just wait, polite.
and you walk single file and nobody j walks nobody was listening to the radio NPR
brag and it was after the tsunami and they were like in bread lines and stuff like
getting food for like you know all the victims and stuff and they were lining up and
this reporter was like talked to some guy was like hey I noticed you guys are all
very orderly as you're waiting for this like food that you desperately need yeah
and no one's pushing or shoving is that a testament to like how you guys come together
Yeah.
And the guy was like, I don't understand, what?
Yeah.
What else?
What do you mean?
They were here first.
Yeah.
She was like, oh, my country.
It's not like that.
That was the interesting part.
It wasn't like, sorry, we off the lineup.
That's what we do here.
It was like they couldn't fathom not doing that.
Wow.
So we were on the subway one day, me and this JJ guy that set up the show.
And the subway cars.
are carpeted and they're
sparkling, dude.
They're sparkling.
You could drop food, I'm not exaggerating.
You could drop food on the floor of their subway station
and you wouldn't be grossed out.
Like, you'd pick it up and just...
On a carpet?
Carpet. Clean carpet in a subway car.
All my New York bum listeners right now
are going, I couldn't wait to shit on that.
Dude, everybody sits like this.
Like on the subway.
There's no talking.
And, dude, I never do this.
I'm always something to get so annoyed at this.
When people have the audible ringer turned on in public on their phone, I'm just like, who does the ringer still?
I tell you who? Black women and Chinese everyone.
So, dude.
I think I'm finally starting to understand why Nanking happened.
There's so much better.
You, you, dude, you.
And this one time by accident, of course, like worst luck ever, my.
my ringer was on by accident.
And I didn't realize it.
It's so embarrassing.
Yeah.
Because like what's wrong with you?
Like I needed it once because it was in the other room.
I forgot.
Yeah.
Dude, my phone went off and it was like the ring tone was like a song or something.
And the phone my phone went off.
Baby shark.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or like it was like motorhead or something.
Yeah.
It was it was loud.
And the JJ guy was like, do, do, do, do, do.
And I was like, sorry, sorry, sorry.
And I shut it off and they were just sitting there.
And he goes, for years to come, these people will tell their ancestors and grandchildren of the day they were on the phone when the man's ringer went off.
He was like, that's insane that that just happened.
It's not okay.
It's wild, dude.
It's wild.
Like, it's a different scene, man.
Was it unsettling to have to deal with that?
Did you were like, I'm out of place?
It was awesome and I appreciated it
But then also there's the flip side of it
Which is, you know
When you live in a society like that
Where there's far less crime and whatever
Like day to day street crime
Okay
Was it not crimey?
There's obviously, you know, the organized crime and stuff
Yeah
You know, but like there's
Come in contact with the Yakuza before it
It's been
Oh shit
I didn't do it right
There we go
Anyway
Yeah, yeah.
No, it's like, but then he was telling me,
JJ was telling me he was like,
here's the thing here, man,
if you get arrested,
you do not get a phone call.
He goes, people get arrested and go to jail
and everybody thinks they're dead
because nobody knows where they are for 30 days
because you don't get a phone call.
And he told me this story of this guy,
what's that?
So people just don't fuck up as much.
Yeah, there's a story.
certain amount of rights that we take for granted that like that they don't it's just not happening over
there yeah which helps keep things orderly and polite but at the same time you're like well it's
orderly and polite because you're fucking terrified that whatever right so um but he told me this
story of this guy he knew he got into a bar fight when the cops came and he goes everything was like
okay and then he said the guy put his hand on the cop's shoulder it was like hey man
we're good and the cop was like,
like,
cuffs like,
that's it,
that's it,
you're going to jail,
you touch me,
you're going to jail.
And I'm like,
wow,
that's wild,
man.
And he was like,
yeah,
nobody knew where he was
for 30 days.
He's just out.
Yeah.
Diaz has a story.
He's told on podcasts
before where there was a bar fight
broke out and this cop was
trying to defend.
He's backed up against Dia
against the wall,
the guy's back was to him.
And Joey's like,
it was a mistake.
I just took this cop's gun
out of his holster.
Jesus Christ.
And then the cop turned and they both realized it's like,
dude, we're going to have to kill you.
And Joey's like, I'm really sorry.
The cop was like embarrassed enough that it got out that he was like, walk away, I'm walking away.
Jesus Christ.
It doesn't seem like that would fly in Japan.
Do the cops have guns there?
They must.
I mean, I don't really remember seeing many cops weirdly.
Like it's not like China, China, it's the presence is apparent.
you go to the airport in China
there's guards with machine guns
there's military guys with machine guns in the airport
Japan wasn't like that
I think it's just kind of like
surface level everything's clean everybody
or at least Tokyo everything's clean
everything's orderly everybody's polite
but I think the second you fuck up
it's like they're out of the woodwork on you
do they have trash cans or is it like one of those where you got to carry your trash
back with you no there was trash cans
there was trash cans and you can also
So, this is very common now.
Here, it was not as common when I went.
I guess I went in like 2015, somewhere in there, 16.
It's not as, it, so it wasn't very common here.
But that was the first place I'd ever been where every single convenience store sold booze.
And that was the first place ever had canned cocktails.
Oh.
So I got there.
Yeah, it's common now.
Yeah, we, I landed at like 5.30 a.m. or something or 6 a.m.
Some, it was really early.
And they picked me up at the airport.
And it was two guys.
It was JJ and another guy.
And the other guy was like, hey, man, I'm really sorry.
Your Airbnb that you're staying in isn't going to be ready to 11.
And I was like, okay.
And he's like, JJ's going to hang out with you.
And I go, well, what do we do?
And he's like, do you drink?
I'm like, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
He's like, let's go.
And we went to, we left the airport,
we got dropped off.
Yeah, dude, we went into like the equivalent of a bodega.
And he's like, come on, let's get some canned cocktails.
And I was like, what the fuck is a canned cocktail?
And he's like, look.
And they had like, Jack and Coke, Jack and Club soda,
Jack and what?
And I was like, this is crazy.
I'd never seen anything like that.
I don't even, White Claw wasn't even out here yet.
Isn't it crazy?
This, when you get to, when you see a cultural difference
or just they would do and then you're just like,
this is better. Yeah. And this feeling
of like newness and like, oh my God,
why don't we do this where I'm by, but I'm loving it right now.
And you were allowed to drink on the street. You were allowed to walk around with
booze. It's weird. It's like weird how much
you were allowed to do. But then like the stuff that
would get you in, you know, putting your hand on a cop's shoulder,
get you get your rested. Especially like, we're okay, buddy, not like pushing him.
No, not being aggressive. You know.
That's how China was. I remember that. We're all walking.
walking around all the comics and it was like 3 a.m.
We're like, let's get a beer, bodega.
I was like, this is open.
Like the guy has no AC, you can't sleep.
So he's like just sitting in the front.
And we bought beers and we're just walking with him.
Bottles, like 20 ounce bottles of Heineken.
We're like, we can walk with this?
Like, why wouldn't, what do you mean?
You're an adult.
You can walk with it.
Don't fuck up.
Yeah, you can drink.
As long as you don't skull somebody with it.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm like, this is so free.
They're like, I mean, you can't Google the word freedom there,
but it is pretty free.
Yeah, yeah.
It's a very interesting,
it's a very interesting dynamic.
But it's, it's,
yeah, and I remember we went to,
we got a bunch of drinks
and then we went to
a fucking,
some seafood place
that was open at like 8 a.m.
And we cooked live sea urnchin,
merchants on a,
it was like a place
where you had your own little grill.
It wasn't like the barbecue.
I don't mean like that.
It was just like every table
at a tiny grill
and you got raw,
sometimes alive seafood
and we cooked it on this grill top
and I was eating sea urchin
that we murdered on this grill.
It was wiggling.
Until it wasn't.
Get your tickets now for the dog stars.
It's no surprise how fast civilization can disappear.

When West Chappers took flight in 1996, the vibes were a bit different.
People thought denim on denim was peak fashion.
Inline skates were everywhere.
And two out of three women rocked, the Rachel.
While those things stayed in the 90s,
One thing that hasn't is that fuzzy feeling you get when WestJet welcomes you on board.
Here's to WestJetting since 96.
Travel back in time with us and actually travel with us at westjet.com slash 30 years.
Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to put it on the grill.
And then JJ was like, I'll do it, you fucking pussy.
You're like, bro, it's dead either way.
It's not going to find Nemo in making it home.
Yeah.
Because that's what I really, that was the only thing I really wanted to do.
I'm a big seafood fan.
And I saw all the like crazy street seafood they had in Japan.
So I was like, I'm going to get a lot of seafood while I'm there.
You got a street seafood.
That seems so dangerous.
We didn't get street.
Like I didn't get to go to the vendors, but we got, I got seafood a lot in different spots.
And it was the freshest seafood you can imagine.
Yeah, how was the food overall?
Amazing.
It was only great stuff.
I heard you can't get a shitty meal.
And cheap as shit.
Because they're fucking, they're bringing it from the ocean like that morning.
It's like it's not being imported.
Like they catch it down the fucking street or whatever.
And yeah, dude, I went to this one place
and I got some kind of tuna tartar thing.
And I remember it was like $15.
And it was just this mountain of the freshest tuna.
The freshest tuna.
It was awesome, man.
Food was incredible.
I think the yen's pretty strong, right?
You think it would be expensive.
It's expensive with the conversion rate and everything.
But like just like when you start to actually calculate,
like what are you actually paying for this?
It's like, this is crazy.
It's actually a fun thing to do when you're traveling
where you're like, how much is it's like 27 thought or whatever?
And you're just like, nice.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You got to do that.
You've got to figure out exactly how much you spent.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I always have one of those calculators.
I want to ask you about a few things and then think about it.
But the toilets, I want to get back to this video game store.
Oh, yeah, yeah, of this stuff.
And if you got laid or almost it.
Okay.
But first.
And the show, too.
I got to tell you.
And the show, okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But first, I want to stop for a second.
Keep going.
But Joe has a new special out.
Yeah.
It's, yeah.
Oh, thank you.
I never promised you a Rose Garden.
It's on Netflix right now.
Is your first time on Netflix?
Yeah.
Long overdue.
Brody, I was at the taping.
It was one of the best specials I've ever seen.
Thanks, man.
Especially with, like, well, I'll talk about it in the end, too.
But, like, it was great.
Thank you.
It was just great.
And it's so cool to see great stuff come to the light.
And so everybody go to Netflix right now and watch.
Please.
I never promised you a Rose Garden.
It's fucking, you can't do any better.
You got tour dates too or no?
Yeah, yeah, Joe DeRosa.com.
But yeah, I have, what do I have?
I have, um, just go to joe de Rosa.com.
I got a bunch of stuff.
There's some stuff that has to be moved because of something I'm shooting.
But so, but go to my website and buy tickets.
But, yeah.
Guys, the special is great.
I won't guarantee you a good time very often,
but this is a great one.
Start to finish.
It's like it holds together.
It's not just a collection of bits for like,
why is it's 45 and not 55?
This is one of those who are like,
this is a piece and I fucking loved it.
Thanks,
man.
Congratulations.
Well, I told you,
I've told you many times.
In fact,
the last time I was on the show
was when I was promoting the YouTube release of it.
Oh, yeah.
But I've told you how responsible you were for me doing that.
And, you know,
you being the guy after COVID that called me and said,
get off your ass and start doing it.
man up again and then telling me very bluntly you know it's not ready yet and and then i saw
jew and then that made me go fuck i got to work harder you came to the tape yeah because that's how i
thought about jew i've told you a million times i was like this is one of the best things i've
ever seen and this is a piece of work this is not just you know arie's not just up there telling a
bunch of jokes like there is a true true theme to this i'm always very impressed by stand up like that
Gaffekins thing about the whiskey, that special he released that was all about whiskey.
Wow, I didn't see yet.
Dude, because he has that new whiskey father time.
Yeah.
Dude, it's.
He can mine a, he can mine a topic.
He does like 40 minutes on whiskey.
Wow.
And bourbon and not just whiskey, bourbon.
Whoa.
He centers in or focuses it on bourbon.
Really?
Yeah.
And then has jokes about why it's the best whiskey.
And, you know, bourbon is this, but scotch is this.
And like, dude, I was like, Jim, this is, I can't, I don't even understand how you did this.
It's like he sits, I don't know, what a fucking animal?
So, sit there and mind shit out.
Yeah, so, so you, you were, you were instrumental in, dude, I have.
Too bad I didn't have it because I haven't found a place yet.
So I don't have my stuff.
But in storage is the playbill from when you were doing underneath KGB.
Oh, yeah.
I have the playbill that says special thanks always your fear.
I still have that.
Yeah, I think too.
you're, well, there's a few more thanks in the credits, but I think you got your own card
because of, because of that. But yeah, when we were workshopping it, you were the only person
I thanked because I was like, he's literally the reason. It's not already out. I'm doing this.
Like, it's, it's nice. Because I was out. I thought I was going to be a hoagie man.
But that's, that has ended. And that's over now? I left Joey roses. They're still open,
but I'm not part of it anymore. But that, that came to a close.
Host or takeover.
Okay, let's go back to Japan.
Yeah.
Okay, so where do you want to talk about first?
Whatever you want to do.
Did you fuck?
No.
Did you almost fuck?
No.
Did you try to fuck?
Oh, I'm sure my antennas were up.
Okay, I was about to say I don't believe you.
There was no opportunity at all.
Like, there was no moment where I met a woman, where I spoke to a woman.
my my show that I did was like wall-to-wall dudes
like it was like like I like there was there was not one moment
where I was in any sort of contact or interaction with a woman
that I can remember at least and yeah no I was I you know I would have loved to
yeah there's they're very beautiful people over there yeah and to see your dick
pixelated as it goes into a pussy
would have been awesome
that I haven't seen real life
that's so funny
this is nuts
it's all mechanical now
it's energized
that just happens
oh my god
I thought it was an after effect
my Rick is rickslating
into your russie
it's so stupid
it's the dumbest joke
but yeah it's
no there was no
I went to bars I drank
Okay.
How was the bars?
That's the other thing, dude.
Yeah?
It's got the, Tokyo had the most bars I'd ever seen, and they have theme bars.
Like, what do you mean?
It's like a horror movie bar.
No.
Here's a weird thing.
Yo, time out.
Yeah.
When you come visit me in London, I got a bar for you.
Okay.
I love it.
Yeah.
Yeah?
What is it?
I'm not going to tell you anymore.
Oh, okay.
All right.
All right.
Awesome.
I love it.
I love it.
That actually made me want to go to London more.
That's funny.
I might have a problem.
the uh they have like these steam bar but then there's these bars they'll be like these bars
where like all the it's the whole staff is women and they all dress up like school girls
you know or like they'll all dress up like sailor moon or something like that and then there's
bars with yeah they have bars where like there's they have kittens and you can you
sit and pet a kitten while you drink well that's lovely it's what an opposite
wholesome versus degenerate styles they have I asked you about the school girl
girl bar and I was like wait are they like hookers yeah I was like is it like prostit and
they're like no sex work and they go no are they actually school are they doing homework
no like he just watched this wholesome kids doing homework why get your mind out of the gutters sir
You know what I think it is?
I think it's like their version of like Hooters.
Like how we have Hooters and you're like,
yeah, these girls have like these spandex shorts
creeping up their ass and their tits are out.
And you're like, it's a strip club?
And you're like, no, families go there.
You're like, why?
Wait, wait, what?
And you're like, yeah.
For the wings that are still frozen on the inside.
Dude, I get so mad when people say Hooters has the best wings.
I'm like, what are you talking about?
It's voted by the same people voted Taco Bell number one Mexican food.
It's crazy.
Yeah.
It's a crazy thing to say.
They can be fine.
There's not much else on the menu.
No.
I think it's crab legs and wings, right?
I mean, there's everything, but like,
it's just deep fried pre-made.
It's just insane.
It's just an insane thing.
It's like, you've clearly never been to the comedy seller in New York and had wings.
Yeah.
Their wings are.
The seller has really good wings.
It's their home run wings.
The best one you go to Buffalo and you go like, you go to Anchor Bar and you're like,
all the original wings and you're like, eh.
And then everywhere they're,
I was like, yeah, they didn't change a recipe.
We're all do better wings of them.
That's the thing, yeah.
The anchor bar wings are good, but they're like,
yeah, they're like, guys, we do whatever us.
We did, everybody got to improve on what we did.
Yeah, yeah, why'd you leave it?
Yeah, the, um, but yeah, there's, there's all kinds of theme bars and
it's so fun going into any kind of bar.
I assume Japan would be full of it where it's like, what's the vibe?
It's the vibe because in, in New York, it's either.
Irish bar
or who's behind the bar
choosing the playlist
So based on the playlist
It's going to be a good night or a bad night
And then the dives
The dives, yeah
The true dives.
But the dives sometimes
I'll play hip-hop
Sometimes 90s emo
Sometimes it's up to the bartender
To make the scene
Yeah
Yeah
But you don't walk in
You're like, I don't know
It's all the same shit
Yeah, it's uh
It's Austin has
In as far as the United States goes
the two reigning champions of bars
are New York and Austin.
Chicago's got to be up there.
Chicago's great too.
But I've never seen,
I mean, dude, I was in New York
for 20 cumulative years.
I had never seen anything like bar culture
in New York until I lived in Austin,
not just visited, but lived here.
People drink here.
Guys, I have some sad news.
Unfortunately, the Burke Crusher shoes
that I have taken.
with me all over the world. 20 countries now met their end. They finally gave way. I know Bert
doesn't even like promote these shoes anymore, but I don't care. They're the most comfortable
shoes ever worn and they met their demise. We're trying to film a promo here at the YMH studios
and they broke. It's the saddest thing I've ever done in my life is to give them up.
And now I'm laying it all bare on the line, everybody. The Bert shoes are no longer.
Here's to you, Bert Shoes. Now watch this very much.
video as I masturbate solemnly.
Oh, fuck, you're right, the fuck.
No!
No!
My name's Bert, and I support this message.
And was like, so, so like, Austin, I think I've told you the story.
The first night I got my apartment, me and Tone Bell called me, and he goes, come on,
man, we got to celebrate.
This is awesome.
I'm like, you know your excuse to celebrate Tone Bell.
It's like, what were you yesterday?
He goes, well, that was just a drink.
Yeah.
It's a celebration.
Yeah.
So he goes, we gotta go celebrate.
So we...
Tone goes hard.
We went to East 6th Street.
East is the East, yeah.
And I was like, let's just kind of work our way down East 6, because I like East 6 a lot.
It seems like there's fun stuff there.
And, dude, we were out drinking.
He goes, we're going to walk, we're going to bar crawl to the creek.
That was our plan.
This way, yeah.
Creek in the cave is across 35 on.
seventh. Yeah, you want to be blackout drunk going under that underpass. Yeah, oh yeah. That's the best
way to do it. So you're not scared to fight the crazed homeless people that will come after you.
So, but no, so, so we get dropped it at one side of east six. We're like, we're going to work our
way down. We're going to cross 35. We'll end at the creek. We'll say hi to Rebecca and have a
drink with her. Rebecca's the owner. Anyway, dude, we were drinking for like, I'm not exaggerating.
It was like three hours.
Yeah.
And we're in this bar.
And I go, dude, I'm fucking wasted right now.
It's the moment where Joe de Rosa will turn to you.
And he's like, bro.
I'm fucking wasted.
This smile, this Joe de Rosa wasted smile.
You're like, I don't think you could remember saying this.
It's my only speed.
It's my only speed.
I have to stop.
I was in the airport yesterday.
You should be dead.
Yeah.
We were flying back from New York.
yesterday. I was with my buddy Nick
and we went to the Delta Lounge
open bar
and he's like, we got to the airport
too early and he's like, let's drink
and dude, he was half
he got halfway through a beer
and he's like, God, I'm so hung over.
This sucks. And I was like,
I've had three drinks
for your half. I was like, I really
only have one speed. I was like, I got to pump
the brakes a little bit here. But anyway,
um,
um, anyway,
tone and I were in this bar. It's three hours later
I'm like, dude, I'm fucking hammered.
We walked outside.
And it's summer in Austin.
It's like 8,000 degrees.
Yeah.
I walk outside, I go, how close we to the creek?
I turn around.
We were four blocks from where we got dropped off.
It was so many bars.
Yeah, there's a lot.
There's a lot.
You think you're moving and then you're just not.
No.
We got nowhere, dude.
Oh, my God.
We're just like, let's go here, then right there, then right back to there, then right to there, then right to there, then right to there.
it's I've never
and here's the thing
Austin doesn't have those pesky
museums and things to take your mind off
they don't sprinkle in culture
they're like our culture is chicken shit bingo
barbecue and drinking let's go
country music let's go
and you're like all right fuck it
it does rule the bar when I was scouting for the end
me and Abrams were here
we're like let's go to every bar with a
stage and I was starting to get down in Austin
because I pretty much only hang out in Dirty Six.
Yeah.
And it's like, it's kind of sucks.
And then I'm like, I rediscovered how cool this place was.
I'm like, oh, yeah.
There's so many fucking great part of that Christmas one.
Oh, Lala.
Yeah, south for the owl, whatever the owl one is, I don't know, but like,
oh, dude.
Dude, there's some gems here.
There are some gems.
And true dives.
True dives that have been here for decades.
Like, and you're just like, this is fucking awesome.
We got a story for...
Okay, first of all, by the way, I forgot to do this before.
If you buy the end right now at yMH studios.com or R.E. Shapiro.com, you get every episode of YMH
live up until August 31st. Is that correct?
Nobody knows.
That's the show I'm not on, right?
YMH live?
No, the end.
Both.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the show you didn't include me in, right?
I didn't invite you.
What a day...
Just so every...
Everybody knows.
Yeah.
One of my closest friends in the world.
You did this is not happening.
I had to get some people on who had never done the original.
It was only people that did this is not happening.
Every single person.
A little excuse does not fly.
Only, only person.
Yeah.
And by the way, was pressuring me to come a week later to just spend quality time with him in New York.
And I'm like, well, you could have booked me on your TV thing.
And maybe it would have paid for the trip.
But no, it's fine.
I'll just, and I still went and came and spent time with you.
Guys, come see.
with Joe missed at the end.
If you buy five episodes, you get the other two for free
plus a prolog, and if you buy them all right now,
if you've already bought them, you already have in your inbox
the download code for every YMH live
through the end of August 31st.
And there's a travel story connected to the end.
I was with Shane in Manchester, England.
I went with him and opened for him
in Manchester, London, and Dublin.
You want to talk about a booze,
run. Oh, wow. That was Dublin was. Holy shit. I had a panic attack on the flight the next day. I was so
hung over. I had a panic attack. We were in Manchester and it was before the first show. We went and got
food. We were walking back to the hotel to get showered. And he's like, ah, shit, man, I got to work on
my story. And I go, for what? And he's like, Ari. And I go, what are you talking about? And he goes,
he's doing a show call. It's like a storytelling show. And I'm like, a live show? And he goes, no, no, it's a
he's taping it. I was like, oh, he must just have not asked me yet.
I was like, well, Shane's really famous. That's probably why.
Well, he had never done it. He's won. Him, Tony. There were some people who had never done it.
So I was like, well, you got to have done it once before we close it. But, but plenty of people
had done it. So I am sorry about that. I don't care. It's fine. So anyways. Lewis Gomez
I was like, but I've never done it.
That was on Legion of Skanks, promoting it every time.
It's like, all, everybody's in it.
And he goes, not me though.
Eventually closed.
Yeah.
The guests would be like, it would be me and Jay, we're both in it.
And then it'd be like, Collum and Renazisi, or Column and like Joe Liszt.
Like, oh, yeah, we all had a great time.
Everybody's done it.
And he's like, call him did it.
Wait, we got to get back to Japan.
All right.
Because I do have a story that I want to say for the.
next episode we do together and maybe we'll get with Norman was just bar culture around the world.
Oh, I would love that.
Because the one story I want to tell is the time we're walking in the East Village and came
across a place.
Oh, the best.
But should we save that or?
Talking about it now.
I mean, you know, I don't know.
It's up to you.
Yeah, it's your show.
Let's do it now.
The place that got ruined.
It got ruined.
There's a short period of window in New York where you're like, this place is awesome.
and you're like, I've come to accept,
enjoy it while you can,
the word will get out,
someone will Instagram it,
it'll be over.
Well, it's funny,
I don't even remember the name of that place.
I tried to keep it secret.
And then you would go,
you would go like,
oh my God,
I'll tell you about this new bar.
It's called this.
Like, dude, shut the fuck up.
We agree.
You're not going to say the fucking name.
No, no, no, that's what I.
You told Charade.
You told Charade.
No, I did tell Sharad.
That's not what happened, though.
Yeah.
I told Charod, and then you were like,
dude, what are you doing?
Yeah.
We agreed.
we have to keep his place secret.
We didn't agree beforehand.
You said, what are you doing?
And I was like, what?
It's an awesome bar.
And you're like, no, dude, you don't tell people about awesome bars.
And I was like, why?
I don't understand.
Ari has a lot of rules.
Guy, bleep, fun places and names from this podcast.
He'll have fucking parties at his house.
Like, you just did it with the end.
I had to have a certain amount of people that I'd ever think like, did that.
He's just got these rules.
He'll be like, all right, you can come to the party, but you're only allowed to bring a date
if you've known her for at least eight months.
Like there's always these rules.
No non-comics.
So when you told me that one about like, don't tell anybody about the cool bar we found,
I thought you were being absurd.
I was like, you're doing the thing that you do where you have this like weird rule for no reason.
And then, and I still agreed to it.
I still was like, okay, I won't tell anybody else.
But you were 100% right.
It got fucking ruined.
So we're walking down the street and we're just walking.
We're already drinking.
I think we got a burger or something.
and it was like, I think I just saw a light bulb outside.
But it was an apartment building.
Yes.
And it said,
It said nothing.
There was something that there was something that tipped off.
There was no storefront.
No, it was upstairs.
It was just as up steps.
And I was like looking at it and you're like, what?
I'm like, I think this is a thing.
Yeah, but there was something on the door that tipped off that, that you like, come on in or
something.
And we were like, what is this?
So you go up the steps
And then there was a cage
Like a jewelry or a pawn shop kind of thing
And I just kept looking at it
And you were like, I'm like, I think it's like an establishment
And you're like, I don't know
And then we're just standing there for a while
And someone comes out and I was like, hello?
And she just goes,
Yeah
And it just lets us up.
Yeah, yeah
And we went in
And it was the coolest bar
There was like 10 people there
You could tell
You could tell the difference between vinyl
and like MP3s.
Instantly it was like, that's his vinyl.
Yeah, yeah.
As you're going up with steps.
Yeah, yeah.
There was like a real DJ playing actual records.
And one of the only people in there was a woman with her baby.
The first thing we saw.
The first thing we saw.
It was just a woman dance like this, just like this.
And you're like, oh, that's good.
And it just turns and just holding a baby.
Baby.
Yeah.
In the fucking Mother Teresa sack thing, like the cloth sack.
We're like,
That lady's getting wasted with her baby right now.
This is crazy.
It was massive, 10 people in there.
They made sushi in the side for no reason.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
And I bring us back to Japan, yeah.
I forgot about that.
And they were the nicest people.
They were so excited that we were in there.
They were so like, welcome.
Uh-huh.
And we were like, this is our new favorite bar.
Why did we never go back?
We went the one time.
I went a couple times.
I lived very close.
Okay.
But I remember you're like, we're sitting there drinking.
We're like, this is the coolest, cool art in the wall.
weird stuff.
Yeah.
And you're like, hey, excuse me, I'm a bar owner.
Yeah.
This is Utah.
It was like, I know, this place is amazing.
Like, why have I never heard of this place?
Yeah.
The guy goes, that's the way we want it.
Oh, yeah, he did say that.
He goes, we make our money downstairs.
This is where we hang.
What was downstairs, though?
A music room.
Oh, is like where bands play?
That I didn't remember.
We never went there.
Okay.
It was a separate interest completely.
I think they just owned the building or owned two floors.
That I didn't remember.
Yeah, it was great.
Yeah, and I remember you saying how excited you were to surprise certain friends of yours
and stuff.
You're like, when so-and-so visits me, I'm going to walk down the street and pretend I don't
know this is here and take them in and watch them.
Because you did that with Sal with...
What the hell was that place called?
Joyface.
Joyface.
Yeah.
Oh, Joyface is...
But I brought Sal there before it was the secret was out.
Okay.
That was another one.
We had a good run.
It's awesome, but it gets too busy.
So there's a bar here.
Yeah.
Shut out Jen.
Called a...
Yeah.
Is...
Yep.
Exactly like Joyface.
I've been.
I think it might be the same owners.
I don't know.
I've had to tell Tony to not mention it.
The first time I went...
Every time he said it.
First time I ever went to...
Red band.
Yeah.
He goes, let's go to...
What's that?
He goes, you know, it's called...
Whatever.
I was like...
I don't, I've never heard of it.
Yeah.
What is this place?
And he's like, he's like, dude, it's awesome.
It's like this retro dive.
And I was like, oh, great.
And we went, dude, it was this Saturday.
We went in, the music was like,
go, gooch, go, go, go, and it was so crowded.
And I was like, you think this is a dot?
What are you talking about?
And the, it was dark, I couldn't see any of the decor.
We went in for 10 seconds.
Yeah.
Red band, this is, what are you talking?
Come on.
We had gone in there before.
And we went somewhere else and whatever.
And then another time he was like, let's go to
And I was like, dude, no.
And he's like, I'm telling you it's cool.
And this time it was like a Tuesday.
And we went in and there was four people
And the lights were up a little bit
And I was like, this place is fucking awesome.
He's like, I told you.
I was like, we went on the wrong night
Because the secret's out.
So Jed would let me, she'd let me stay at weekends
is like, it's just too tough.
It's crazy.
But on weekdays, especially early, it's the best still.
And she's like, come on a weekend.
sit with me outside and watch me turn away 24 year old douchebags it's so fun she'd see people like do you think
you're gonna come in here with shorts and they're like oh like go to poco it's for your trash
hey trash if you're out there this episode is brought you by poco if you're a garbage person go to
poco in the east village what's poco yeah let's get back to japan okay so yeah i went to do a show
yeah can we smoke in here yeah i spoke on my podcast all of
I spoke on YMH the other day with Christina.
Man, ever think the fucking, ever since our parents got divorced,
the rules go out the window.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, I did YMH a week ago.
Christine had a bottle of Jack waiting for me.
11.30 in the morning.
That's great.
That's great.
Yeah, it's great.
Yeah, it was awesome.
Those guys, badger band, jabon.
Yeah, japan.
Toilets?
Normal, all that stuff.
None of that was different.
The bidet shit?
Was it clean?
I was in a pretty low-rent Airbnb,
just meaning like it was like no frills, I mean.
Nothing.
No, I didn't, I don't remember seeing like badees in public bathrooms or anything like that.
I'm sure it exists somewhere, but,
but I, the good thing was I got there and my show was the,
yeah, my show was the first night.
So I went to the Airbnb at 11 after we were drinking.
being we went to an arcade at like oh yeah we went to an arcade at like 9 30 a.m.
Not in the video game district just an arcade because they still have actual arcades there and
they had um yeah oh he said to open this away right oh okay now all right I'll wait
what I don't know all right all right um we went to an arcade they had the coolest okay
Here's a cool side note.
Okay, I'll hold it.
Joe.
Is a snake going to jump out of this or something?
Oh my God, if it does, you guys have double crossed me, and I don't like it, but I do love it.
Joe, the theme of your special was how everything has turned to shit.
Yes.
And it's stayed with me through life.
I see it now.
Is there shit in there?
No, there's not.
Oh, okay.
And I just am so proud of you for doing something great.
Do you guys want?
Yes, you're allowed to.
I'm so proud of you for.
getting it done and doing something because especially once you're in comedy for a while you're
like there's tons of good comedy but it all becomes sort of like all right it's that's fine right
and to get something that wasn't fine that was actually great is so fucking rare thanks man and I'm
really proud of you I'm proud to know you I'm proud to know anybody it does something fucking
great oh that means a lot thank you dude seriously I'm very touched by that thank you you guys coming
in I swear to God I thought you were going to that was going to be filled with shit
Well, it is.
It's Jack Daniels.
Everything is.
It's 100% is.
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
One of us.
That means one more.
In Japanese.
To Jojo...
Do you know how to say cheers in Japanese?
No.
Sunpae.
To Jodorosa.
And I never promised you a Rose Garden on Netflix now.
Cheers, guys.
Thank you.
Sampai.
Sampai.
Hey.
I could not have done the shot challenge with Jack.
No.
No, and kept a straight face?
No, no, I love Jack, but no.
That's really sweet of you.
Thank you, man, thank you.
Oh, okay.
Arcades.
Yeah.
So we went to an arcade.
They have the coolest arcade games I've ever seen in Japan,
and they had ones that I'd never seen here.
E.T.
The two standouts were they had full-sized Mario Kart.
What do you mean?
Full-size?
Where you sit in fucking cars next to you?
each other and race Mario Kart.
That's fun.
It was so fun.
We played that for like an hour.
We just raced each other for any of hour.
Those head-to-head racing, things are so good when you can figure out how to be like,
you're not in this one, I'm racing alone.
Yeah, yeah.
But if you're actually in, when you're like, you're past each other.
Yeah.
But they had the greatest game I've ever played in my life.
It does exist here.
It's very hard to find.
I looked into buying one.
It's $100,000.
So I was like well that's off the table. Oh you didn't go what can I do to get that?
I was like there's more if I need to make a hundred thousand dollars I there's things I need to spend it on that are not an arcade
cabinet. But um it's called um it's called star wars battle pod and there's different versions of it there's a there's a truncated version of it that I've seen in the states I never saw the full one the full one was in Japan the full one is you get inside of a fucking enclosed
And I think it moves if I remember correctly like Luke Skywalker.
He's like get to the outside and he's like shooting the it's all first person.
Okay.
And it's all like battles from the original three movies and you're flying, you're, you're piloting whatever vehicle, you know.
And like, dude, so the first, the first battle, I just got chills remember playing this, how cool was.
The first battle is the Death Star attack from the first movie.
And you take off out of the hangar on yacht.
like they do in the movie and you start ascend.
So you do the ascent into space.
Tilt.
And it like tilts.
Wow.
And fucking wind blows out of it.
Wow.
And you're like fighting.
It's fucking amazing, dude.
I played it over and over and over again.
I was like, this is, I will never get to play this again.
And when I got back, I was like, I have,
because I own the original 83 Star Wars Arcade.
It's my favorite thing that I own.
Yeah.
And I was like, I have to get that.
I have to get a Star Wars Battle Pod.
and it's like a hundred grand.
And by the way, it probably weighs a metric fucking ton.
So once it's, if you could buy it, once it's in your house, it's there.
You better find where exactly where you want it.
You know, and never drop anything under it or whatever.
Like, because it's there.
But they had, they had, and then another thing in the arcades was,
this was in the game district.
I won't go to the, what I did in the game district,
but just to tell you a thing about arcades in Japan,
that was the first place I'd ever been
where I realized that pro gaming was a real deal.
Like, it was when gamer streaming was a newer thing.
Yeah.
But they had gotten fully into it over there
before we did over here.
And dude, there are, and fighting games are huge there.
They're real big on the fighting games.
You know, like Tekken and that kind of shit.
There are all kinds of arcade
in the video game district.
And they're multiple floors.
They're like five floors of arcade games.
Wow.
And each floor is a different designation or something.
They had full floors in these arcades
where it was wall to wall all the same exact fighting game.
And dudes were just sitting there fucking practicing,
like just playing all day, like just fucking playing, playing, playing,
because they're, they professionally did it.
And I'd never seen that.
What was that movie?
It was with the kid from the show?
The Wonder Years?
Wonder Years.
The Wizard.
When he goes on and he's like competing.
Yeah, it's the saddest movie all time if you rewatch it.
When you're a kid, you don't realize he, his little brother is autistic because I think he witnessed his dad get murdered or something.
It's back then we didn't know about autism.
Like you can't catch it.
Yeah.
It's like, it's the saddest fucking movie.
It's not fun at all.
It's really somber.
It's really depressing.
and Fred Savage
secretly runs away with his little brother
because he wants to make his brother better
and get over this trauma
by bringing him to this video game competition
and that's the movie where they unveiled
Super Mario Brothers 3 to the public
so every kid wanted to see it
because we just wanted to see the footage
of Super Mario Bros. 3
and it is the weirdest vehicle for them
to show you Super Mario Bros. 3
it was so sad.
I gotta watch it now.
But yeah these guys would just sit up
Just playing.
I was like, that's crazy.
Like, that's wild.
I'm saying crazy today.
The best development in video games that I've seen
is, and they have one of the East Village at a barcade,
is the four-way Pac-Man that's flat.
Where you play against each other?
Yeah.
And not one-one-one-one.
We played that, you me, Jim and Sal,
my buddy Jim and Sal played that.
We went, we were doing a bar crawl on Gay Pride Day.
We were gonna bar crawl towards Gay Pride.
and we had already had a few.
There's more bars than we,
same thing with Austin,
more bars than we consider.
Yeah, yeah.
And I remember getting tokens
and I was like, whatever,
and you're like, Ari, come on, we have the game.
Do you remember this?
You're like, come on, come on,
hurry up, but I'm trying to put the thing
and I'm finally getting it in
and I'm tuned up.
Yeah.
And you're like, Ari, we have the game.
And I was like,
because I get lost because I'm like,
we're friends, we do everything
and I forgot it was in public on that day.
Yeah.
And I go, wait, faggot!
And we both,
looked at each other, like, unable to move, like, bro, we're done.
Yeah.
And it was like, I think they assumed I was.
Yeah, yeah.
So it was like, I think I got away with it.
Yeah, yeah.
I do remember that.
And I was like, bro.
What?
I'm like, oh, fuck.
If you had done that in Austin, they would have elected you mayor on the spot.
Yeah.
No, it was, yeah, I remember that.
I was like, Ari, Jesus Christ, dude.
Do you remember you texted me that day?
And we were on a text thread making the plans.
And you go, I was thinking we could like slowly make our way towards the pride parade.
And I was like, that sounds like a good idea.
And you go, I was kidding.
Nobody wants to go to that except you, you fucking queen.
We never got to pride.
I really didn't want to go to pride.
I thought it was going to be fun, man.
The L.A.
wants a lot more fun.
Fucking party.
L.A. is better because you have more space.
You can like back away.
New York, you just walled the once you turn on a street,
you're just stuck chest to chest with the dudes
for like 45 minutes.
Like, ah, it's claustrophobic.
They did the HBO, do you ever see the HBO documentary they did
where they followed like three different dudes during Pride?
Uh-uh.
And the one dude's like, ah, he's so excited.
He's like, I can't wait, this is my Christmas.
Like, he's so excited.
Dude, he's just through the whole thing,
party and party and party and Molly, Molly, Molly, you know, whatever.
by the end of the documentary, he's like in a room like,
what am I doing with my life?
He crashes out.
It's like, bro, you just, you burned out all your serotonin.
That's all, man, you'll be okay.
Yeah, that's what I'm allie.
Yeah, like, you'll be fine.
Just call you deal, you'll be okay.
But yeah, so, anyway, so.
Yeah, that's fun.
Yeah, I get to Japan.
So anyway, we went to the arcade, blah, blah, blah, blah.
So I go to bed,
and I, you know, I slept most of the day,
and then I got up and I went to my show.
And what happened at my show is my favorite thing
that happened there.
First of all, this was weird.
Rachel Evan Wood, right?
That's her name?
Yeah.
Evan Rachel Wood.
The actor?
Yeah.
Yeah.
She might just go by, no, no, she's still,
because she's on the shards.
It's Rachel Evan.
Is it Evan or Evans?
Or Evan Richard Wood, sorry.
She played the venue I was performing in the night before.
Who did she played it?
What's that?
What do you mean she played it?
She does music.
Oh.
And she did music in the venue that I was in the night before.
And she was staying upstairs.
What?
Yeah.
And her guitar player came down before my show, and I met him.
he's a very cool guy and he's like dude i'm gonna try to get i'm trying to get her to come down i'm like
oh that'd be fucking cool yeah and he went out and he was like dude she's not feeling good man
she thinks she's got like the flu or something but so so i never got to meet her but she was
apparently upstairs uh but i was anyway that's not the cool thing um that was just kind of
of an interesting thing so i'm in the this is ever start telling a story that i had to get to the end
like, man, that sucked.
Yeah, yeah, no, that wasn't the story.
Okay.
So we're in this place.
It was called the library.
How do you say that?
Library.
How do you say it again, Japan?
Oh, it was called the Rai Rory.
It had all these rooks on the wall.
What is that?
Books.
Oh, okay.
I can't believe you couldn't figure that out.
Yeah.
So it was a very like, very, like, very,
American style bar.
It felt like a New York bar.
And it was weird because...
Was that a theme for them? A New York bar?
Could that be a theme somewhere?
It felt very New York. It was, you know,
there was like, the decor
was all these bookshelves with old books.
And it was called the library, and it was this little dive.
And I was like, it feels like a New York bar,
which I liked. And then I also thought it was
interesting because when I was 21,
when I first lived in Austin, we would go to this bar
called the library all the time.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, that's interesting.
You don't have to move that one.
The, uh, so,
anyway, so it's before the show and I get there and, um,
I'm, I'm hanging at the bar and, you know, it's a tiny room, whatever, and this kid comes up to me.
And he's like, dude, I'm fucking love you, bro.
I'm such a fan.
The American kid.
And I go, thanks, dude.
That's awesome.
I'm like, where, do you live here?
He's like, I live in South Korea.
I flew here for this.
Whoa.
I was like, holy shit, dude.
I was like, well, you just won the award for most effort.
Anybody's ever put in to see me perform.
Yeah.
He's like, dude, I got to buy you a shot.
Come on, man.
I know you like to drink.
And I'm like, yeah, it's doing.
So we started banging shots.
I think we're shooting Yeagermeister for some ungodly reason.
They still make that.
Yeah, yeah, they still make it.
And I was like, all right, so we start doing shots.
And dude, he keeps buying me shots.
And I'm taking them.
Was it you now?
Not JJ.
I'm blanking on the other guy's name, but the other producer.
Andy?
He comes, let's call him Frank.
He comes up to the kid.
And he's like, man, he's got a fucking show to do, man.
He was like from, he was Scottish or something.
He's like, he's got a fucking show to do.
You gotta go fucking chill out, man.
And it's like, he's cool, dude.
He's cool.
And he's like, no, no, no, no.
He spotted the problem before I did.
Oh.
I was like, yeah, all right, whatever, man.
I'm feeling good.
Like, you know, I get on stage.
I'm doing the show.
It's awesome because it's all just transplants.
Yeah.
It's all people that are from the states.
It's cool performing out there as expats.
And they're just like craving Western culture.
Yeah.
I'm having the fucking best show.
And it's awesome.
I'm still doing shots on stage and where I'm having a blast.
Dude, mid-show, that kid walks on stage.
Drunk like, like, why no movie drunk?
Like, talking gibberish.
Yeah.
Tried to like grab the mic, whatever, and got thrown out in front of everybody.
And the stage was in front of windows.
And on the other side of the windows were the steps that led up.
up to the stage and I watched him get kicked out and have to walk sadly down the stairs
while I was on stage from the show he flew to from South Korea to.
Oh,
how bad does that suck?
I was like, that kid's going to wake up with the worst, worst hangover regret ever, ever, ever.
Or maybe not.
Maybe he's just such a drunk.
He'll be like, yeah, fuck it, man.
There's this comic, Andrew Newman.
He was in the Hong Kong scene.
And he was like a one-liner comic, like Stephen Wright style.
Yeah.
And, you know, those scenes are all kind of new.
Yeah.
And so he was doing that, and they didn't really have much of that.
It was all just people starting to do comedy of what they'd seen on TV much,
and Stephen Wright wasn't really on.
Anyway, they had shows in Seoul, Korea.
Okay.
So they went there.
And the soul scene was like, okay, there's some comics there.
And so Andrew does this thing.
The very slow, methodical joke.
And they all just go, dude, you just changed the game.
That's hilarious.
Dude, we could be, we could be ungodly famous if we just went to other countries.
Like we could go to some, you know, really just change a whole scene.
Yeah.
That's what I'm doing in England.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it's like, yeah, it's so funny.
We were talking about Ari Maddie the other night.
Uh-huh.
And, you know, he was like famous.
in Estonia.
And then somebody was like, you know he did it
because he's really good.
Yeah.
He's really, really good.
And I was like, God damn, Ari's good.
And they were like, you know he was like a 15 year vet?
I'm the first one to meet Ari.
Really?
Of anybody.
Where'd you meet him?
Cambodia.
Cambodia?
Yeah, at a show.
Are you kidding?
Uh-uh.
William Children's was doing a show.
And I was like, I'll come by.
And he was the headliner.
Holy shit.
We were drinking and stuff like that there.
But they were like, this guy already met his here.
He's brand new.
I'm like, no, I know that guy.
They're like, no, he just moved.
And I'm like, no, I'm, what do you mean?
I know.
They're like, I'll kill you.
Like, we drank in Cambodia.
And like, Phnom Penh.
Now it wasn't Phnom Penh.
It was like a small city.
But wait, what was the show in Cambodia?
Just some show for expats.
And he was, wait, so wait.
They had flown him in from somewhere.
He was headlining a different show, not the Cambodia show.
Cambodia show.
Oh, that's what he was telling him.
But you did, that's where you first met him.
Yeah.
Okay.
And was he seasoned at that point?
Good enough. The show was terrible. It was half outdoors, half indoors.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Was he an MMA fighter?
Something like that, yeah.
Yeah. They were like, do you want to go up? I'm like, no.
Like, you're sure? And I'm like, bro, if I bomb, I'm four months in Asia backpacking.
Yeah. I'm going to have to sit on a bomb for the next three months.
Zero chance. That sucks. That sucks. Yeah. So that was the show.
That was it. That was all I had to do the whole time I was there.
So I had two days to do whatever I wanted.
And...
Do you meet any locals?
No, I met...
You're kind of undercover, like, traveled.
Like, that stuff going to bars in China and, like, in the woods and, like...
Yeah.
And, like, I don't know, you're like, you've been places.
It's hard...
It's hard in certain countries, particularly Asia, if you're not there for a long time.
Yeah.
If you're there for a couple days, it's kind of hard to really meet local.
because the people taking you around are all expats.
They take you with the other expats.
Yeah, and it's just like-
But also that's cool. The expats scene is a part of the culture there.
Yes, yes, that's very, very cool.
But it's, and then also too, like true locals, I'm like,
I don't speak Japanese, like not even sort of.
Yeah.
So, and it's the hardest, those Asian languages are the hard, it's impossible.
What's upside down tree?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Which was my big issue when I went to the video game store.
Well, you couldn't figure out.
Well, because here's the thing.
So there's different versions of the system, the game systems we had here,
and they have different names in other countries.
So in Japan, where Nintendo first came from,
it was not called Nintendo.
It was called the Famicom, meaning family computer.
opportunity there.
Well,
here's,
this is interesting.
The reason it got renamed
the Nintendo Entertainment's,
the company was still
called, was called Nintendo.
The system itself
was called the Famicom
because the idea
of the family computer
was good.
Yeah, it was coming off the hills
of Kalikovision.
When they brought it to here,
the crash,
the video game crash
of 1984 had occurred
and they were like,
nobody wants home games
anymore because Atari
saturated, over-saturated the market,
and too many bad games were made now.
Nobody has any faith in this.
So they were like, the only way we could make
this system work there is if we redesign it
and make it look like,
more like a VCR
or a device that you would have in your entertainment
system. Interesting. And we have to rename it, the Nintendo
Entertainment System, so nobody thinks about
computer or video games or whatever.
And that's what,
that intrigue of it is what gave it a shot
and then it became the biggest thing ever.
And it came with Duck Hunt and Super Mario Brothers Free.
I think so, yeah.
So you had this like gun thing.
Yeah.
Well, I got the first version of it
that came with the robot
and it came with a game called Gyromite
which sucked.
But it was,
you were so crazily impressed
at this robot that came with it
and all this shit like,
but yeah, it had the gun and duck hunt
and all that shit.
It was, it was, it was,
it was a literal phenomenon.
But anyway,
so I had,
at that point I had purchased a Famicom,
I had purchased a Super Famicom,
which was their Super Nintendo.
And then N64,
you could play Japanese games
on the American version of it.
There was just a piece you had to remove.
You didn't need like a Japanese version.
So my whole goal was,
I'm going to go over there,
and I'm going to buy all of these games that they never made for the States for the American versions.
Oh, wow, cool.
But I had to be selective because I was like, I can't buy any games that are reading intensive
because it will all be in Japanese and whatever.
So it was a lot of like, I'm going to buy these like shoot them ups and, you know, like action games.
So I made a list.
This guy, John Riggs, who's a video game influencer here in the States,
And I met him once at a video game con.
He was very cool.
And I was like, dude, I used your video as my buying guide when I was in Japan.
He was like, oh, that's cool, man, because he did these videos where it was like the best games that never got ported to the States from Japan.
So I made a whole list, dude.
I had like 30 fucking games on this list for all three systems.
And I was so excited.
And I got to the store.
And I was like,
fuck they're all in j this was two years a solid year and a half before google translate yeah i was
like fuck they're all in japanese i don't even know how to start looking for these goddamn things
i can imagine you going like do you have dig dug and then i go right dude so i go up to this guy
at the cash register on the floor
that had the systems I was looking for.
What's the place called?
It was called the...
And I show him my list.
I'm just like, please, please.
And he was like, I got no idea, dude.
You know?
And then he was like, hold on.
And he found another staffer
and the guy, like,
could understand reading English just enough.
and he took me around the store at like rapid speed.
It was like,
I was like handing me games and like,
he was like pointing like,
this one is that one and this one is that one.
And it kind of took,
it kind of took the fun out of the hunt of it,
but he hooked it up.
And they had almost every game I was looking for,
which is why I spent my entire paycheck in that store.
And I came home with like 30 or 25,
fucking video games. I was so excited. And I played two of them once.
You're just a collector. Yeah. And that's why I started being like, I don't think I want
these games. I don't think I'm more into the, you just want to have them. Yeah, I think the
collecting part is more excited than the playing part. That's funny. But, um, but there was another
place. I can't remember the name of the other place, unfortunately, but they had like, you know,
they had like controllers that never got released.
least here. Oh. So like they had like this game the game cube was a Nintendo system that had a really
funky controller and there was this thing called the game cube fight pad where it was way more like
a traditional controller and it was way easier to use and play games on and they had it there. They
didn't have it here. So I was fine and shit like that. It was very, very cool. It was very, very, very cool.
You know, but that that was my favorite part of being there was like finding stuff like that that you
couldn't find here going into a record store hearing a band and being like who's this and it's some
japanese punk band that movie kill bill yeah yeah who was that who was that i was just think of that
i think they're called the five six seven eights yeah what a cool band yeah they're in that movie
because he was in japan and he was like on his way to the airport i think and went to a record
store on his way out and heard that band and was like, who is this? And fucking bought the record
and put them in the movie because of that. They were so cool. They're awesome. He's got a good
ear for music. He's, yeah, I don't know that anybody's ever been better at he, bringing back
surf pop. Yeah, to like the mainstream and all this like urge overkill and all these bands. Like,
what? Like these are cool. You just don't know them. Yeah. He's the, he said before he writes a script,
puts the soundtrack together.
Whoa.
And he writes to the soundtrack.
And he said with Pulp Fiction,
Dick Dale, Miserleu,
was that song at the beginning.
And I remember seeing it in the theater
on opening weekend.
And when that song kicked in
after she's like,
I'll execute every motherfucking last,
what are you?
I was like, holy shit.
Like, you're like,
it's so just like supercharged opening.
And he said he did that on purpose
because he goes,
if you open a movie with that song,
the movie has to,
live up to it. Wow. I was like, that's great. Wow. That's great. But he, every movie, every movie,
in Django, when he's got Django coming out with the guns and Tupac is playing. Yeah, it's so opposite
the, the historical vibe of that. Yeah, yeah. But you're like, this is fucking awesome. Like,
he really knows how to put songs to, to picture. Yeah, that is one of the cool things about
you go to a record store somewhere and you go, like, I went to one in Melbourne, somewhere, like,
the cool area, Fitzrovia, I forget.
But like, it was like, give me a local,
when you're just a cool record store, you know,
not just a corporate one.
Like, who's good, like, locally?
Yeah.
And I'm like, oh, well, like, these five,
I'm like, well, what's the vibe?
And they're like, oh, rock and roll.
I'm like, oh, try this.
I'm like, okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You find gems.
When I was in Scotland at the beginning of Edinburgh,
I went to...
Good time, roommate.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Actually, I'm sorry.
It was, it was, it was on my way to Scotland.
I was in Dublin first for the vote.
Vodafone festival.
And I went to a record store with Soder.
The second day we were there.
And I was just getting it really into motorhead at the time.
And because it was over there and not far where they're from,
they had every fucking motorhead record,
like original pressings for nothing.
Wow.
For nothing.
And I bought so many motorhead vinals.
That's how I got the bulk of my motorhead vinals.
I think I had to take shit out of my suitcase in order to get it all home.
That's the hard thing.
You find one and you're like,
my suitcase is not made for bringing record home.
I had a stack like this.
Yeah,
and I brought them to Scotland and then brought them home.
But yeah.
But yeah,
it's great shopping for music overseas.
But it's hard.
Japan is also oddly into country music.
They are?
I heard there's like a whole scene there of like they're super into country,
like old country.
Really?
Yeah.
And they're like people play it.
that Japanese people will play country.
You know, like live.
Yeah.
Yeah, and bluegrass and like, yeah.
Do they do it like...
Brueger.
Do they put...
Do they do it with like the...
Do they add like a southern twang?
Good question. I don't know.
There's got to be video of it, right?
Can we look it up?
Japanese plane.
Yeah.
Yeah, I wonder if they do it that way.
I bet you they do.
I bet you they do.
Add their version of like the accent.
Yeah, because I feel like that's part of the, the aesthetic of it, right?
Like that guy right there, listen to the sweet sounds.
Yeah, this one too.
What was that, Kung Day?
Wow.
Please be in Japanese.
So, no, they're not, they're just singing.
Can we see the other one to see if...
Oh, my God.
I get the comments.
comments now.
Reliable fiber powered internet for just $40 a month.
These aren't even sponsors.
By the way, hold on, pause before you play this.
Guys, I have done an experiment for the next month.
This is part of that month.
I have taken out all the YouTube embedded ads from my podcast.
And I'm saying just give a buck into super thanks.
And if this experiment works, we will continue putting no ads in YouTube.
You just don't say no ads.
You put no ads.
Oh, you don't monetize.
Yeah, no monetize.
So then it's up to you guys if you want to do it.
I'm assuming it won't work out.
But if you all throw in a fucking buck once a month,
then it'll pay for it.
Actually, it's not a bad idea.
Let's see, I'll tell you how it goes.
This is week two.
All right.
All right.
That's, yeah, tell me if it works.
Okay.
Let's hear this guy.
Yeah, let's hear this guy.
Two more ads.
All right, this is country, country.
The other thing was a little bluegrass.
This would go either way.
I think he's going to do it.
are the me
goodbye
wait a minute
this isn't a wait
hold up pause it
is this just an American
guy that's Japanese
I don't know
the guy from Japan
the guy in the left looks
wow
but no I know he's Japanese
I'm saying though
is he from the States though
he looks
this looks like everyone in the band
is Japanese
Japanese
country Western band
I mean this
He just sounds American unless he just nailed the...
That's what he wants you to think.
Yeah.
PBS, Bluegrass Music in Japan.
No, they're all Japanese.
Yeah, actually, that's the tell, right?
It's the rest of the band.
Well, yeah, and it's translating at the bottom.
So, yeah, I guess so.
Wow, that guy's...
That guy did it.
Yeah, he did it.
That guy really did it.
All right.
There you go.
Overall, great trip.
It was great.
It was short.
It was short, but it was great.
I really want to go back.
I talked to Alexis Fox, who's a good friend of the network and a very good friend of mine.
You've been Alexis.
We spent my birthday with her one year.
She goes over there all the time.
And she's always like, just come to fucking Japan.
Let's go.
Like, I'm like, that's, I want to do that.
I want to go with a friend and like just go and like really.
Yeah, because that's the other thing, too.
The guys that hosted me were very jaded me.
generous and very nice, but I also didn't really know them that well.
The good thing about getting, I call boots on the ground, it's like you get some advice
to people who were actually there.
Like if they're visiting the Austin East Village, but forget the travel books.
I'll tell you where actually to go.
What places are open, late, food, whatever.
And so you get some advice from those people for one day, hang on, and then the next seven or
eight days, you're like, take that advice and you go off with your friend and do your own shit.
Yeah.
Yeah, we should, we gotta do that.
It was like life came up, so we couldn't get it done.
No, it was a very, it's not a, it's not a, you know, it's not a, you know,
easy trip to plan and then also too there's like a season where you should go versus when you
shouldn't shoulder and it kept like 2027 I think it was like I think the problem we were running into
was they were saying summer was a good time to go our summer yeah that's theirs too is it the same
yeah okay so they were I think they were saying that was a good time to go but we we like I want
you were you were particularly were like now I summer's no good like because you were
were taken off or whatever.
Yeah, I think it was taken on.
Yeah.
And so I think that was the problem.
And then it's also tough to go.
We travel all the time.
So it's like, you know, fit in three weeks.
In the fall, yeah, exactly.
In the fall and winter, that's the busiest time for stand up here.
You get a planet way out.
Yes.
What a planet with Big Jay?
And then he can cancel on us two weeks before and go,
oh, I booked a fucking Portland, Maine at 120 Cedar.
I didn't know.
Like, what do you mean?
What didn't you know?
That's really good.
ever going to tell us?
No,
probably not.
No,
he just won't show up.
Yeah,
he just doesn't show up.
Yeah.
Do you have,
if you had to go,
but do you have any regrets?
Do you have any tips
for anyone going there?
Like,
if you're going to do this
or do you have like,
I wish I had done this.
No,
my only regret,
it's not really a regret.
I just wish I had had more time
because there's a lot more
I would have explored.
Just one city too.
I'm also,
I'm like,
why didn't I just go
inside the weird bar
where all the girls dresses school girls
just to see it or the cat bar
but at the time I was like
I thought I think I think
I might be talking out of my ass
there was another animal bar
it might have been like ferrets or something
there was another type of bar with animals
where you could just pet an animal
if there was a pig bar you would have been in there
yeah
but yeah that's
I'm like some there were certain things where I was like
why didn't I just go in there
yeah
but
But no, the only thing that bummed me out, there we go.
Cat Cafe Moka, Cat Cafe Mawks.
Oh, they do.
They have mini pigs.
Hedgehogs.
Wow.
Dog bar.
All Shibu Inno Bar dogs.
Can you look up the schoolgirl bar without getting on a list of some kind?
Yeah, take off the safety protocols and then search that.
Yeah, there it is.
See what I mean?
It looks like a similar move.
Females attend the counter and chat with customers.
They are distinct from high school themed or underage operators.
though some gray market jk businesses involve young-looking aesthetics or accompaniments yeah i remember
them telling me that that it was big for businessmen businessmen they like it but again so is hooters
here that's what hooters was so i think it's just their version of so funny you go to another place like
oh no we all think this is terrible it looks cool it's not even hot it's not even that catholic goal i
By the way, open that one up again?
The third one.
Not even Japanese.
And also like much older.
She's like the boy band where they always have one.
Like, dude, you're 37.
That's a Slavic woman.
Yeah.
That ran out of money on her vacation.
She's Bulgarian.
They give her a different color armband.
Yeah, that's funny.
Yeah, the girl on the very end isn't even in a school girl office.
Is she?
She's just back there.
She's a tourist.
She's a tourist from Woodland Hills.
Yeah, it's an odd.
It's odd.
It's an odd thing.
I don't really quite get...
But I don't know.
I guess a theme is better than no theme.
The guy at the counter is just slapping down stuff.
I'll play you for slaps.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
There's an island you can go to.
Yeah.
Well, there you go.
I saw the picture.
Now I'm not...
Don't regret anymore that I didn't go in.
You at least want to peek your head in and know what you're missing.
I think when I was walking by these, I was alone and I was like, I don't know.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I get it.
I get that.
Like, I just, you know, I'm not going to be...
Be able to translate.
Look at that.
Ali wrong.
Allie wrong.
Two wrongs are right.
Yeah, that one, yeah, it's like,
so click on where it says girl bars in Japan,
the complete guide.
Boo.
And then go to visit.
No, no, no.
Yeah, there you go.
So.
This is just some dumb fuck bartender.
So I guess like this is the thing,
this is more what it is.
It's that they have.
have these girl bars.
Oh.
And.
Do I have to go alone?
Not at all.
So funny.
Is sex involved?
Absolutely not.
See?
Oh.
I know.
Makes you want to go less, doesn't it?
Those two girls are the version of Austin.
Can I date my bartender?
Those girls do not allow customers to exchange
contact information with the bartenders.
Okay, here it.
Girl bars usually charge customers in increments of 30, 40, or 60 minutes.
This is what's odd.
It's like you pay for their time, but it's not like a strip club or anything.
So I'm like, I don't really get what, I don't get it.
That's whenever I go to like strip clubs early on,
when I didn't really have much money for it, but like, we can go to the back to the
champagne room.
It's like we can have more fun and I would always be like, how much is that exactly cost
and what will I get?
Yeah, yeah, no, yeah.
Oh, they, I'm sure they love that question.
Yeah.
I don't know, scumbag.
Yeah.
That's Rogan when he said, he had an old bit about it where he goes, um, he's
He went to a show club and was like, what's your name?
She goes, I don't get my name out because I find most people in here are creeps.
And he goes, no, that's not me at all.
I just heard there was a place where I could look at some girl's pussy for a dog.
He goes, don't get on me because, what do they say?
Don't get on me because you dropped out of high school and I have 20 nickels.
That's really funny.
That's a really, that's really fucking funny.
the yeah one of my first jokes ever wrote was a gentleman's club how they called a gentleman's
guy yeah I go so rarely do you hear gentlemen going show me your asshole whore
we're in Pittsburgh a one once and we just heard this guy in the last week you know the
strip club voice and he goes gentlemen please stop throwing change at the ladies
that's amazing yeah great trip yeah yeah I
I wish I had more, I feel like it was, no, that was great.
It wasn't like a, it was fun.
No, because everyone's experience there.
So some people like, I didn't do shit.
Some people like, all I did was this.
Some people are like, oh, I went and did everything cultural.
Some people like I didn't do anything cultural.
I just got hookers the whole time.
It's just like what was your trip?
If I went back, I feel like two weeks would be plenty.
Even though, even though I'm not seeing everything, I feel like two weeks be more than enough.
Because you'd have a handful of days where you go,
let's get in a train and go to the countryside or whatever and then you'd be like I'm going to get
I'm going to hit these 10 amazing restaurants go back to a place you liked yeah there again yeah
these are the these are the 10 bars I definitely would like to see like you know I feel like two weeks
would be a nice nice run I feel like that's a good amount of time anywhere that's solid yeah and you
start going like you need a day like hey I don't want to talk to you today I'll do my own thing
right yeah yeah you start getting annoyed by whoever you're with that's the
The tough thing with traveling with somebody is like you have to figure out how to have your space.
One is great. You get a little lonely, but you can actually meet people because you're lonely.
Two is like solid, but then you get real annoyed. And then if you get like a group of 10, then it gets good again because you can break off into cruise.
You're right.
If you're like, I don't feel like, all right, well, the nine of us are going out.
What do you think the smallest group that's good for?
Four, everyone has to hang out.
I think five or six.
You start getting like two can do this, four can do that.
Like, well, I don't want to do that.
Like, do you want to come to this instead?
Like, if we go to, like, Montauk and you and somebody else, like,
I want to go to a bar.
And everyone else is like, I want to go to the fire.
It's like, well, you guys go.
Yeah.
Just two of us, everyone has to do with one person's doing.
Well, six, six would be awesome, too, if it was three couples, because then you could be like,
you could have the days where, like, me and this guy are going to go dude out.
Yeah.
And you girls go girl out.
Yeah.
And then, and then on this day, me and my lady are going to go do a thing just the two of us.
And that's probably best case scenario.
Yeah.
You know?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Anyway.
Do you have any travel tips overall in general?
General travel tips?
General or if you're ever in Cambodia.
Yeah, no, no, I do.
Be careful and learn their, not just their laws, but learn their etiquette and stuff before you go.
Because that's the only time I've seen people have problems.
It's when you fuck up when you don't even think you're fucking up.
Yeah.
Because you don't realize.
I'm not at home anymore,
especially if you're going to go around drinking.
It's like you,
you,
you,
it's real easy to forget,
like I'm somewhere else right now
because I'm loose,
I'm buzzed,
I'm having fun.
That's,
that's,
for that,
this is what people in Paris
think everyone's rude
because they don't realize
you're going to a store
and you're like,
touching stuff,
whatever,
and that guy owns a store.
Yeah.
And you didn't say hi.
You just started touching their shit.
Yeah.
And they go,
hey,
but you don't think you're doing anything wrong.
Yeah.
But from their perspective,
like,
oh,
right.
Yeah.
No, no, exactly.
And it's, it's, you know, me and, again, me and Soder,
me and Soder almost got ourselves in a situation in Ireland, in Dublin.
Is he drinking then?
He wasn't drinking.
He was thinking about going off the wagon.
And I was with him and Annie Letterman.
And there was a, who was the third, fourth person?
It was me, Annie, Dan, and.
Annie Sober.
It might have been Michelle Wolf, maybe?
She's good to drink with.
Yeah, I don't remember, but two of us were drinking, and those two weren't.
And soda was like, thinking about maybe having a beer, man.
And I was like, hey, brother, what happens in Dublin, stays in Dublin.
And I remember Annie was like, that's fucked up.
She's a program person.
Yeah, and I was like, I'm not telling him to do it.
I'm just telling him not not to do it.
Yeah.
Yeah, I just want him to be fun.
I don't know.
I miss the old Danny.
But we went into a bar because we really were like.
Dan has still a problem, and I think you would agree,
because what I'll do when I have a house party is,
I don't want anyone to feel left out, so I get N.A. beers.
Now I'll call beer so they can have cans or whatever.
One time, Roy Wood was like, I was like,
bro, you're sober?
And he goes, no, what do you mean?
I'm like, are you drinking the Heineken zeros?
He goes, motherfucker, make these look different.
I had four, I'm feeling shit.
But soda, you can tell he starts a problem?
Because he's got, like, the table he's at is, like,
12 N.A. Cants.
He's fucking hitting him.
Dude, it's funny. I never thought
Dan ever got out of control.
Like, I was with him once on
his birthday, and he was
smashed. And it was the only time
where I was like, ooh, he's really smacked.
But I was like, it's his birthday, though.
So, like. Fair.
But he far more times than not told me,
like, let's wrap it up.
And I'd be like, come on, man.
I hate those good, good drunks that got out.
Steve Simone, great drunk.
Oh, I never drank with Steve.
One time, Eve, remember Eve?
Eve?
The rapper.
Oh, oh, yeah, Eve.
She was at, not Carnies, Jerry's Deli.
Yeah.
And he, and we were all fucking drunk.
And he went over there, and the bouncer was like, nope.
And he goes, no, I just want to tell you something.
And he started rapping her lyrics to her.
And she was like, fuck a minute.
And he was like, I was so embarrassed.
Like, bro, everybody loved you.
That's fucking awesome.
I never even knew he drank ever.
I met him after.
He was, yeah.
Dude, we lost some good ones.
He lost some good ones.
Bargazzi.
Bargazzi.
He should have quit.
Doesn't mean he wasn't a good one.
Doesn't mean he wasn't a good one.
He did have his great times.
He would go over the line and we're like, hey, let's ditch Nate.
He's be really annoying.
I don't know if I ever told this on a podcast before when he was drinking.
We were at Big J's bachelor party.
Had that work out?
They didn't, it didn't work out.
They got divorced.
But, no, we were at Big J's Bachelor Party.
And, I mean, we were obviously shith housed.
And Nate came up to me.
He was like newer in New York at the time.
He goes, you know what, do I was there?
Everybody says, I got to watch you.
You're so funny.
So good.
I've watched you, man.
And I got to tell you.
I don't see.
He was dead ass, dude.
He was not joking.
I was like, Jesus, Nate.
He got aggressive.
He would get, he would get, like, sway aggressive,
but he was fun to drink with.
Me and Soda had, we were at Bonarrow,
we were watching LCD sound system.
We were mauled up.
And we're having a blast.
And Nate, you know those things they have
where it's a tower of white wines?
Yeah.
And it's for four people.
And Nate was like,
it's for one person.
And he was just crank one after another.
Yeah.
And he was like, you guys, you're fucking drugs.
You fuck.
And me, we're like, we're having a blast.
And we're, we're pleasant.
So, dude.
So one of my favorite drinking days ever was with Nate.
Yeah.
Ever.
In my top, arguably three,
it was skankfest when it used to be in New York at the creek and cave.
Nate is like an Australian and a hostel.
They're the best and the worst.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, I had Irish neighbors when I lived in Harlem.
Like, guys from Ireland, I mean.
And this guy, George, was so fucking fun.
And he would turn a corner.
And it would get like, you know, he was fun until he started to be like,
come on, man, six million.
Give me a fucking break, man.
You know, you're like, whoa, dude, George, George.
He said that to Rachel Feinstein.
Wow.
And Rachel's like, your Irish friend keeps arguing the numbers of the Holocaust with me.
And I was like, he's blacked out right now.
Yeah. And then I remember, this is a true story. I was trying to quit drinking at one point. And I went to an AA meeting. And they were like, anybody knew? And I was like, hey, my name's Joe, trying to, you know, whatever. And then after the meeting, I hear this guy's like, Joe, and I turn around and it's George. It's like, what's going on, man? I was like, I think we both fell off the wagon. But anyway, no, one of my favorite drinking stories, it was when they used to have the creek in the cave in New York.
And they did, it was early Skagfest there was best.
It was so fun.
And I went in for the last day.
It was when I was living in L.A.
And, um,
Burt was there.
And Nate was there.
And I got,
yeah,
I got super drunk with Bert.
Like, you know,
and I had to do the comedy jam.
And dude,
the comedy jam was nine hours after we started drinking, you know?
So we get to the comedy jam.
And I'm like,
swaying and shit.
I go, Burt.
Somebody just offered me a bump.
Should I do it?
And he goes, if it'll make you feel better.
So I did.
It won't be right now.
Did the comedy jam.
Bert's like the devil in your shoulder.
It's also got like a scholar cap on.
Yeah, yeah.
So then the next day, I'm so hungover.
I feel like garbage.
I'm like the only way out of this is through.
I got to drink through this.
Yeah.
So I call Nate.
And he's like, what's up, buddy?
And I go, bro, I'm so hungover that if I don't drink, I'm going to be sick.
What time is this?
3 p.m. the next day.
And he just goes, you called the rat man.
So I go and I meet Nate and we start drinking.
Five o'clock hits.
He goes, I got to do the bonfire.
So we go up to the bonfire.
We're just trashed.
Burt's there.
He's trashed.
Lewis was doing roast battle that night.
Back when Lewis used to host the roast thing at the stand,
with the old stand.
We go in and do panel for roasts.
We're so wasted that they cut the mics off of us.
Lewis cut all the mics off because we were interrupting so much.
And then Lewis goes, I'll turn the mics back on.
You got to be cool, be cool, guys, because he was getting so mad at us.
Mad Lewis is the best.
Yeah.
And the night before with the Burt thing, with the bump,
I said, you can't tell anybody.
Please.
And he goes, okay.
And we're sitting there on the panel for Rose Battle.
And then Bert just goes, secret time, secret time, secret time, secret time.
And there he goes, yeah, yeah, secret time.
And he goes, Joe did cocaine last night.
And starts doing the Burtland.
I'm like, God damn it, Burke.
You never see how I brag about keeping secrets when lets out more secrets.
But we were so hammered.
Me, him and Nate...
Oh, and Adam...
You're good?
No, no. Adam...
I always want to say Levine. That's the guy from the band.
Should it be a bit? No, no, no. Workaholics, Adam.
Oh.
Adam...
What?
How am I blanking in his last name?
Divine?
Divine. Yeah.
Adam was there.
Devine was there. He came in...
For some reason, he was in New York, and he came in, and he started drinking with us.
That guy's a fun guy to drink with.
I did Dr. Phil with him.
in Reno.
Oh, dude, we had so much fun in Reno, dude.
Me and Adam went down and we were drinking and gambling.
It was like, it was one of those, like,
we knew each other and we were pals,
but that was, you know, when you have the night
where you cement the friendship through shots,
we cemented our friendship that night.
He's the best.
What did you say about Reno?
Sorry.
I shot a man there.
Oh.
I thought you said,
there was no reason, really.
watching time.
All right.
I got you.
I'm with you.
Thank you very much,
Joe DeRosa.
Everybody go watch.
Go watch.
I never promise you a Rose Garden.
Japan right there.
And listen to the pod.
The new pod,
Violent Herendous,
right here on YMH.
Violent horrendous.
Today's episode was produced by
YMH,
edited by probably Alan Kaffee
if he's back from Denmark.
And thank you,
Booth Boys and Dickless boy.
And,
and,
old Dickless.
Old Dickless boy.
Yeah.
Thank you very much.
Bye, everybody.
