Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey y'all, it's Kelly Clarkson with Wayfair. Ever order furniture online and wonder what if? Like, what if it doesn't hold up? That sofa was four days old. You should have ordered from Wayfair. With Wayfair, there's no what if. Just style you love and quality you can trust. Visit Wayfair.com.
Starting point is 00:00:13 Wayfair, every style, every home. Buddy. That hot honey on that. Was that a thing growing up for you? No. It was not for me at all. No. Is that just a New York thing?
Starting point is 00:00:20 The last five years, hot honey has really exploded. Wow. It is everywhere. It's the Truffle Oil of pizza. It is. And I hate truffle oil. I think it's gross. It's strong.
Starting point is 00:00:29 It's too much. I got sick in Italy. I went to Italy. I had something with truffle and it made me sick. So now I can't even smell truffle oil. It's strong. You should line your puss with truffle oil.
Starting point is 00:00:41 When a guy goes down, you'll have them like gag for the wrong reasons. How's my little truffle pig? Come on, truffle pig. Get in there. Dig it out. Make the noises, oinker. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Where you've been? and where you're going. This is our race travel show, yeah. We're going to talk about travel today. It's U.B. Trippett, yeah. What a fun way to start. Welcome to U.B. Trippin, everybody. Yes, we're not talking about Italy.
Starting point is 00:01:18 It's a travel, we're not talking. Travel podcast. We go to, this is a different, every week, Caitlin, I have a different place, trip. Okay. Sometimes it's more than one place on one trip, because people do longer trips with lots of places, but generally it's one place.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Okay. It's actually the only podcast in the podcast world that is in Braille. It's in Braille on Spotify. YouTube is getting there. It's in Braille. Yeah. Incredible.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Yeah, for our heart of healing death. Do they just touch their screens? I don't really know how it works. I don't really care. I thought they should all honestly be exterminated. Wow, Ari. You can't say that with that shirt on. Remember, do you know Helen Keller?
Starting point is 00:02:04 Do I know Helen Keller? You know she thought down syndrome people should be put down? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, she believed in eugenics. I googled it once. No genetics? What's the stuff that Frank Thomas is pimping? I have no idea. Nugetics.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Newgenics. Newgenics. Very different. Yeah, no, I googled it. I was like, was Ellen Keller really into eugenics? And then go, it's an unfortunate period in her life. A period in life. She got over it.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Apparently it was just a phase. You know, some people get into punk. Some people... What a tough... The problem of eugenics is... It sounds like all the words that deaf people say. Are we?
Starting point is 00:02:43 Okay, all right. Caitlin Palufo is, I guess, today. I'll do a whole thing for you when this comes out and where your dates are and everything like that, but I don't know when it's coming out. Oh, no, I do know when it's coming out. Yeah. Your special is out right now.
Starting point is 00:02:56 I don't usually do this. Because it's like I bank a business. so much. Yes. I'm the king of banking episodes. My people are great at banking. Yes. I forget it.
Starting point is 00:03:06 I saw the socks. I got it. Jewish. And you have a special. Is this your first special? No. This is my second album for special. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Self-produced on YouTube. June 11th, it's coming out. It's out. It's already out. It came out on Wednesday. A little TV magic happening right here. Yeah, everybody check it on YouTube. on Caitlin Palufo.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Yeah, just Caitlin Palufo. I'll see tons of clips up there. But congratulations. First special is a humongous thing. Thank you. It's called prosciutto Rose. Pesuto Rose. Tough to spell for my fan base.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Guys, I'm going to give you a hint. There's a C in there. What you wouldn't think there would be. There's also an eye in there where you wouldn't think there would be. Just do Caitlin Palufo Rose and it'll pop up. If the publicist is doing any good,
Starting point is 00:03:56 it should pop up. It's definitely a better title written down, but searchable is like, fuck. I know. Who searches that way? Dude, talk to text. Talk to text. Perchudo Rose. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Congratulations. Tom Sigour told me this when I did my first special, and I didn't understand until later, it's all downhill from here. Oh. In a good way. Okay. It means once you've gotten, your whole career has been getting up to, like, albums great, but to do a special.
Starting point is 00:04:21 And now you've, now it's just more specials. Yeah. You'll do TV shit and whatever, but. But it's just more specials. You've done it now. Okay. It's sick. It's so cool.
Starting point is 00:04:31 That is actually nice to think about. I wish I had thought, known that when I taped it. I would have maybe tried to be in the moment a little bit more. That's a hard one. Soda told me that once by last one. It's like, enjoy this one. Don't forget to not enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Yeah. Put it on a show for people. It's cool. You know what Lisa Trager said, she said, this is the reward, not the test. There you go. Very good. It's not bad.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. It sounds like, honestly, Lisa. It sounds like cultural appropriation. for Asian culture. Okay, you gotta stop. For Samaras.
Starting point is 00:05:00 That's a bit of a stretch. That's a samurai thing. This is the test. Well, she's from Russia. The reward, not the test. That is Asia. Lisa. The student has become the master.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Love Lisa. So, we go to a different place. Where are we going to go today? Today we're going to Mexico City. Okay. This is a great trip. I remember when you were going on it, let's give you some advice.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Yes. Tips, I guess. You gave me a lot of, you gave me really helpful advice. You said, pick one thing to do a day and then just see what happens. Yeah. And that's kind of, I kind of held on to that. Really? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Because I was alone. So I literally didn't have anyone else's input. What, have you, you don't, you haven't really traveled much or you have? I've traveled a bit, yeah, a lot. I haven't done, I've done a lot in Europe. Usually with people? Usually with people. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Always with people. This was my first solo trip. So we got to get into why you went alone, and then, but also, I guess we can start not in order. The difference seem to travel alone versus with people. Yeah. Just do a quick rundown of the difference. Okay, quick rundown.
Starting point is 00:06:09 You literally can do anything you want. God, it's the most freedom. It's the best that, you know, there's no compromising. There's no, well, all shucks, this guy doesn't want to go to an art museum. No, you go to the art museum, you do everything you want. And if it sucks, it's your fault. So there's no one to bring. But also, there's no blame there.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, man, that sucked. Yeah, you don't feel responsible for someone else's happiness. You eat whatever you want. I used to date a picky eater, and that is tough. Yeah, there were certain countries we couldn't go to because he was like, I don't think I could eat anything there. Yeah, I wanted to go to Vietnam.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Couldn't, what? Yeah, he said, it was like, there's one of the best food countries in the world. He said, there's nothing there I can eat. I don't know what I'll do. I mean, it is a thing that was said out loud. Okay, so. So we went to Costa Rican and say, it doesn't matter. Anyway, we figured it out.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Louis used to say that about Joe Lest and he was like, oh, dude, we've been to some of the France, he can find a chicken parm in any country in the world. Whatever, Vietnam's version of chicken parm is. He goes, can you take out the patte? Can you take out the seaweed? Now put chicken in there. Now parm it up. Now sauce.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Yeah. I admire that. You like what you like. Love it, leave it. Yeah. Yeah, it really is. I had a time where I was in Paris for a writing class. And I remember, this is like, to me, this is what solo travel is.
Starting point is 00:07:29 I sat down at a cafe to eat a restaurant, whatever. And I sat, you just walk around. You're like, this feels good. It's like walk around Manhattan. Yeah. Or Manhattan. You just kind of walk. You can Google Maps it, but you just kind of walk.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Like, well, this looks good. I'm going in. I sat there, and I noticed a sign with the menu, and it was in English. And a waiter hadn't come over yet. And it was like, oh, is this like a tourist one? And I was like, I'm going. And I just got up and go. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:53 There was no, like, hey, do you want to eat here? Should we go somewhere else? Yeah. And if you had to have that discussion and the waiter comes over, well, now you're stuck. You're done, you're there. You got to order. They put waters down, you're fucked.
Starting point is 00:08:03 It's the best. You're eating a tourist trap, s cargo. If you decide you're not going to eat somewhere with somebody, they have the waters down, the soap we're out, and you're like, we're leaving. Do you leave any money? No. No.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Do you think you should? Now I think I should. I do too, and I don't leave money. Oh, my gosh. But I do think I should. Like you've done some service for me. Yeah, that's true. But it's also, it's the time to take up the table.
Starting point is 00:08:32 That's the thing. Which you're not doing. It's the time. The water's getting another guy right now. Exactly. It's literally, so that's why I don't think you have to because you're literally, you're giving the time back, which is how they make their money. I love in the old movies where they just get up and throw some money down and walk.
Starting point is 00:08:48 You're like, can you even get the fucking bill? What a fake movie is. I know. I'm just assuming it's $40. Yeah. It's like, that's probably not. enough. So it's Mexico City's where we're headed. Mexico City. So now back up because you did one. This is, I think Jay's, I told you yesterday before, this is the only other one I've had like that where
Starting point is 00:09:05 it's the lead up to it's going to be a lot of it. Like why you travel to this place is bigger than just like, I don't know how I'd have picked for a map. No, no. So a few things. I had to go on a little eat, pray, love journey. Okay. You know, I had to, you know, I went through a breakup. Went through a breakup. We were dating for, or in a relationship for almost seven years and we were engaged for two of those years. Long engagement. Trouble. That's a long engagement.
Starting point is 00:09:31 It's a bad sign. If you're engaged for more than two years and you haven't made a single plan, time to go to therapy. My rabbis in Israel just said, like, if you can engage, just get married next week. Just do it. Just do it. Why wait? Just start it.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Just go. Yeah. We literally, initially we hit the ground running. Yeah. And we were like, okay, let's go look at venues. And then we got the price tag. And we were like, okay, we were not going to be able to do this as easily as we thought. So then we were like, well, we'll just save some money, but we never saved money.
Starting point is 00:10:00 And then we never did the grown-up things that you have to do in order to start planning a wedding, like have a joint account and do all that stuff. We just kind of put our heads in the sand and kind of just continued on with life. You say you kind of knew it was over, but they wouldn't face it. You would just booze up and not face it. Yeah, that happened like six months after the engagement. If I overstep, by the way, none of this is live. Just tell me like, hey, don't, don't hear that.
Starting point is 00:10:23 I'm pretty open about it. I don't feel weird about it. Yeah, yeah, my ex is a great person, you know, and I think if we did get married, he would have been a great partner, you know. I think people say that shit. I know, but it is like... You'd be a good father. I'm like, yeah?
Starting point is 00:10:38 He didn't mean I want to be. You know, what the fuck you're talking about? What's that to do with it? What the fuck? Well, we just weren't right for each other. I think eventually we would have just fallen out. I think it would have happened... This breakup was going to happen.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Did seven years is a good run. It's a good run. It was a great run. We got cats. We got a peloton. Were you already going to go to Mexico City with him? No. This came afterwards.
Starting point is 00:10:59 This came afterwards and it came, honestly, it's probably from talking to you. Literally, we would sit at the table and you would talk about traveling and going. And you had just come back from, I think, El Salvador. Maybe not El Salvador, but South America. You did like a long trip. Ecuador. Yeah. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:11:16 And you were talking about it and how much you just backpacked and went. And I was like, I've always wanted to do that. And then you're like, just do it. Just do it. Just do it. Just do it. What are you waiting for? You can go alone.
Starting point is 00:11:29 It's fine. Just go. Just don't go to like, probably said El Salvador. Right. Probably that. No, it was safe then.
Starting point is 00:11:37 But it had just gotten safe. But anyway. Yeah. Ecuador got worse. Oh, no. Yeah. Gangs took over. But yeah, it was like,
Starting point is 00:11:43 don't overthink it. Yeah. Don't overthink it. Just go. And at that time, I had over like 500,000 miles. And my favorite band is the yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:51 And they were playing in Mexico City. and I was like, I should do that. And then you, and I was sitting at the table with Alex Kuman and someone else, and they were like, you have to just do that. Just do it. Just do it. And I was like, no, I don't know. And they were like, just do it.
Starting point is 00:12:06 You didn't want to see them here in New York where they were from? They were sold out. And the tickets were like $500. What crazy. Yeah. And so I looked at Mexico City because I was alone, it cost $110. And I was eight rows back center. What?
Starting point is 00:12:20 Yeah. I have a picture. I have a picture of where I was. Jorge on the ones and twos. Come on, baby. Show the one. That's how close. I was so close.
Starting point is 00:12:29 It felt great. I got a poster. I got a shirt. I sat there alone. Didn't speak any. But I was, it was, it was, it was, the concert was the reason I went. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:39 So by the way, life hack, if you live in New York and tickets are too expensive, go to Philadelphia. Oh, smart. Tickets are half the price and the train or bus down there is almost nothing. Yeah. Yeah. That is true. And then also it's not expensive to stay overnight. Yeah, you can make a thing of it, which you did in a crazy way.
Starting point is 00:12:57 So if you don't know the people at home, Caitlin was, how do you want to describe it? What do you mean? Portland? Before you quit drinking. Oh, see, that's how close it was. Isn't that crazy? Wow, what a fucking queen. Oh, she's amazing.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Karen, oh, I love you. Yeah, it was, and they put on a great concert. Really? It was wonderful. I made me cry three times. Nice. That's a sign of a good concert. I'm always crying at concerts.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I'm weeping. So I go on this trip in order to, you know, do a little eat, pray, love, find myself, be alone, you know, prove that I can travel alone. I don't need no man, okay? Was that part of it? That was, oh, a huge part of it. I was so nervous. You had just got out of the relationship?
Starting point is 00:13:37 No. In the last six months to eight months before, 10 months a year? Maybe, maybe 10 months to a year. I think it was, oh, it was a year. It was coming up on a year. And I was like, I still, I didn't have a boyfriend. I was trying to, you know, really assert my independence. I had this apartment.
Starting point is 00:13:53 My career was going okay. And I was like, you know what? This is the thing missing. You think you can't do all these things because you don't have someone. Prove that you can do it without someone. Yeah, by yourself. Yeah. And so that's what, so I was like, you have to do it.
Starting point is 00:14:06 You have to do it. And I was so nervous. This is what Chelsea's always talking about, like not being a mom. You can do stuff. It's like, you just do it. Yeah. Just prove it to the. Just prove it.
Starting point is 00:14:17 Prove it to yourself, mostly. When I got back from back this last one, Yeah. Eight months through South America or Latin America. And I was just telling somebody how it was. One of my friends, well, she's my friend too, her friend. And she was like, we were just talking about it. Like, what was it like?
Starting point is 00:14:36 What was it? Relaxing was. It was like, so great. You know, I would do all these fun stuff. And then immediately, and she hits you with like, well, you know, I have kids, so I can't do that. I'm like, well, I wasn't saying you could. I'm just talking about my trip. They all feel attacked because they can do it. So I think it's our job to make them feel jealous.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Yeah. Don't tell them about stuff. Just live it and have people. Your couple friends go, oh, I wish I could go to myself city alone. You could. Yeah, you could. You definitely can. And it's so cheap.
Starting point is 00:15:04 And when you go by yourself, it's so cheap. Hey, guys, real quick, let me tell you about Caitlin. She's a great comic. She's a great New York City comic. She's finally getting her due on that Kevin Hart Show, Fun, A.F. But she's open for me on the road before we had legitimate a blast in Louisville, Kentucky. and she's like a tough follow the whole weekend. It really helped me get my special ready.
Starting point is 00:15:25 You can find her on the road right now. Obviously get her special. When a comedian puts out a special, it's the biggest thing. Really, they do in like a two or three year gap. There's no better way to support them. Then go to Caitlin Palufo on YouTube right now and go see Preschuto Rhodes.
Starting point is 00:15:39 Leave a comment saying you saw her from this episode. Tell us she's the real Frida Kahlo. And then put in parentheses because we think you have one eyebrow. Prasuto Rose, right now, everybody, legitimately. It's exciting. She's like, she's like, if you ever been to New York to watch comedy, you're like, you just see these crushers, and she's just like one of them. It's great.
Starting point is 00:15:58 It's like really great to see. And that's how New York comics are the best, because we have to follow fucking murderers like Caitlin all the time. People that you haven't heard of and they're just crushing. You're like, dude, I just want to fucking work on a new bid. They never let you fucking slow down, these New York comics. So good luck to the other scenes in the world, but nothing. is like New York stand-up.
Starting point is 00:16:18 I'm moving to London. Clayton was also on the road. And Charlotte, North Carolina, you get all tickets at Caitlin Palufo.com. Charlotte, North Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia. She'll be at Helium. Denver, Colorado at the Denver
Starting point is 00:16:30 Comedy Underground, Sacramento at the Punchline. That's a great club. North Carolina at Witsen, North Charleston, South Carolina. Guys, she's going to start selling out now because of this thing. Raleigh, St. Petersburg,
Starting point is 00:16:42 Austin, Cap City, Boise, and Lafayette and that's it, New Orleans. She's also got a show called QuizBitch. She's a web series. Do Cosmo Quiz With Other Comedias. That's pretty cool. And she's been to Tempe and Miami Improvs.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Guys, check out Caitlin, and please subscribe to this podcast wherever you're watching and listen. If you're watching on Spotify, you're listening on Spotify, hit subscribe right now. If you're watching on YouTube or listening on YouTube, hit subscribe right now. And then every week you get something good. All different types of travelers. I love it, this kind of thing, going off alone. Anyway, let's get back to the episode. Thank you very much for tune in.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Also, I've got a television show called The End. It's available right now at r.eshaffir.com. 22 of the top stand-up comics in the world, each telling the story on different topics, seven one-hour episodes. Each episode is $5.99 cents. Yeah, I'm going around the network system. Or if you buy five, you get two for free.
Starting point is 00:17:38 That's 40% off. Right now at R.E.Shafir.com. There's still like 35, 40 of the VIP package left with a limited edition poster, but anyway, thank you, everyone who's watched it so far, and, like, it's been pretty overwhelming, the response. So, thank you if you've watched it. And for those who haven't, hey,
Starting point is 00:17:55 you got something to watch this weekend, and it's all through the summer, all through the summer. Okay, let's get back to the episode. Caitlin in Mexico City. So you also, what I was going to say is you entered, you weren't fat, but... I was sturdy. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Yeah, yeah, yeah. You were field hockey, and now you're soccer. Thank you. Well, I was always soccer, but I was either the enforcer and now I'm the forward. Oh, okay. Okay. The field hockey bitches are like tougher. Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. They're mean. But I was, I had a little jiggle on me. Yeah. And now I am. Everybody was like, Jesus. Is you Caitlin? I guess she's not drinking. What the fuck? No, I quit drinking. And then you're like, but then you're going to Mexico City with this new bod. Yeah. It's a new bod. But it was also in the time where it wasn't hot. So I
Starting point is 00:18:44 couldn't even wear a swimsuit. Oh. Yeah. So I was like, God damn it. But, I mean, there's a lot of pictures of my thin face in front of historic things. Nice. Yeah, that's always, that's always nice. It's like, oh, smelt face.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Cute selfie, you know. So you plan the whole trip around this concert? Around this concert, yeah. And I was just center. There's, see, look at that cute face. It's thin. It's a thin, cute face in front of their fucking opera house. Opera house.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Yeah. Yeah, it's like their version of Radio City. Here's a cool thing I'm just realizing about travel sometimes too. So if this was in New York, it kind of could be. Yeah. We have similar style. It's like Art Deco. You'd walk by it a thousand times.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Yeah. You know, the New York City Library, how beautiful that is. And you kind of like, now you walk by it. When you were tourists, you're like, whoa. Yeah. And then because you're out, you're like, wow, look at this thing. Yeah. I'm sure the local's like, oh, whatever, dude.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Yeah. But it just hits different. Everything hits different. I know. And it's so, I mean, it really was. It was so grand. It was massive. And I should have taken a picture of just it, but I had to put my dumb head in there.
Starting point is 00:19:54 It's better. It's better if you have. Yeah, you got to have a little interest in there. But it is, it was like, gorgeous. I met this Israeli lady in Myanmar. Her tip was, oh, guys, here's a travel tip. put yourself and anyone you're with in pictures with you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Because a picture of this thing is like, you just get that online. Yeah, that's true. You're with nobody that's that's different. But it's like also if you're like even in a hostel and you're, all the people are in a hostel going out, like, yeah, these are the people I hung out with that way. Yeah. That is nice. It's like more of a stamp.
Starting point is 00:20:26 It's like a memory. Yeah. It's like now it's like, oh, yeah, that guy's name was Patrick. Yeah. I went to a hostel once. Actually, here's another pro tip. Yeah. Go to a hostel because then you had hook up with a guy named Patrick from,
Starting point is 00:20:37 Australia. Wow. What a guy. Caitlin, listen, if you're going to give a tip, you got to like, you got a cryon. You've got to do a chiron. That's exactly how long he was, I'll tell you that. Really?
Starting point is 00:20:48 No. I don't think we had sex. I think we just made out. Really? Yeah, we didn't, yeah, we, I was sharing, we were doing it so cheap. Me and my friend Tristie. Yeah. We were in Ireland and we were staying in this hostel and we were sharing bunk beds,
Starting point is 00:21:03 you know, in the room of 14. And then I snuck down. and he snuck down from his because it was men's and women's and we met on a pool table we made out wow in the common room in the common room it was all the lights were out it was dark it was forbidden it was great wow it was so hot he was so hot yeah that's the respectful way to do it yeah you don't do it like in i guess it was separate room so you couldn't but like no i couldn't do that to my friend Tristee. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:31 I'm like, I'm fucking on a bunk bed. It's happened. It sucks. You're like, stop, guys. I have an early hike tomorrow. Yeah. So, okay, so you're doing,
Starting point is 00:21:43 it's, it's, it's, there's different ways I feel like people travel and like some, some of the more unique ones are, like Melania, Melania, Feintraub was to, aid, human aid, whatever it's called. Help them humans. This whole sentence is a myth.
Starting point is 00:22:02 I gotta tell you. Oh, you're helping refugees. The name is bad. Melania, Melania. Everything's bad. Something, refugees, blah. Yeah. But that's like one small, unique one or like Rain Wilson goes to Haiti to do outreach.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Oh, like, yeah, like doing charity work. Charity, yeah. There's missionary, I guess. I haven't had one of those. But although the owner of Wise guys in Saltie City, he's, He's Mormon. He went on a mission to Ecuador. Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:32 To do outreach show. I was like, that's a unique way to go. Did it work? No. Did they save anybody? I think you're only, yeah, you got to call a wheel back into Christ. All right. You save the mortal souls.
Starting point is 00:22:42 I mean, no. None of them. Where was that? But then one of them is breakup travel. Yeah. Which I've met a lot of people over the years. Yeah. When you're out, like, what do you, so what are you, I was going to do this trip with my boyfriend.
Starting point is 00:22:58 we broke up and then I was like you know what fuck it I'm going anywhere you can't tell me what to do you know like this seemed like this seemed like that for you I don't know yeah it was a proof to yourself I can do it was a proof to yourself that you can do it and it was a proof my sister my older sister was so worried
Starting point is 00:23:16 she was like put on your location I need to know where you are at all times text me every time you get home back to the Airbnb and honestly I've never felt safer Mexico City is so safe yeah or at least you know, for a white woman walking around, you know, but it was... Stayed one of the two neighborhoods? Yeah, I stayed at the neighborhood that you recommended. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:57 You have to be on this block. Yeah. In order to save me. Yeah. And you have to get a text notification saying, hey, I need help. Yeah, that's true. Not a club over the head. It'll be a good place to start when they look for the body.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Actually, it'll help survivors. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Well, she died doing what she loved. Fucking a stranger. Yeah, fucking a stranger. Well, that I did get approached by a few men while it was on the trip,
Starting point is 00:24:22 but I didn't do anything because I was like, it was my eat, praise. Love. No. No. No. No. I'm not a girl.
Starting point is 00:24:29 You know? You pray love? The Julia Roberts movie? I don't. It's a book and then it's movie. Yeah. But Julia Roberts, she goes through a divorce and she goes on, she's also a writer. And so she goes on this journey.
Starting point is 00:24:41 She goes to Italy. Ooh. And she goes to Bali. Yeah. So she does like three months in each place. Wow. And she learns about herself, you know. She wants to eat.
Starting point is 00:24:51 She wants to pray and she wants to love? Yes. She finds a boyfriend at the end. At the end, yes. Lame. I know. I was like, don't. End up with the boyfriend.
Starting point is 00:24:58 End up with yourself. Yeah. So that's what I did. I was like changing the, changing the narrative of the movie. It was e-prey masturbate alone. Yeah. And the other way to travel is,
Starting point is 00:25:08 is like around one event and you stay longer. That's how Vegas pretty much exists. You come for the sphere, you stay for three days. Yeah. So I guess I kind of did that too. I was a little lay, little B, or a little B, little C.
Starting point is 00:25:21 But this is what happened at the concert. Okay. So I'm going to the concert. Back up. Back up. We're at the concert. I love the Yayyaz, loved him since college. Like, I have them on vinyl.
Starting point is 00:25:31 They're so good. And so I'm there. I'm so excited. And everybody's so excited. It's sold out. I don't speak any English. Or excuse me, I don't speak any Spanish. I speak a little bit of Spanish.
Starting point is 00:25:41 But everybody around me spoke Spanish. So I was truly isolated. Okay. At the concert? Okay. And then they start playing. Which is great because you're alone and you actually don't really want to talk to anybody. So you have like, I don't, sorry.
Starting point is 00:25:52 I don't stay there. Yeah, yeah, I go, sorry. Like she, the woman next to me, she drank from my beach. And I go, oh, that's my beer. And she goes, blah, blah, blah, blah, in Spanish. And I go, I'm sorry. And she goes, ah, okay. And then I think she made a joke and I just didn't get it.
Starting point is 00:26:06 And I was like, I'm so sorry. As a person who loves jokes, I really wish I got it too. I love it too. It's like, oh, sorry, I don't speak Spanish. And then they're like, well, let me explain this to you why it's funny still in Spanish. Yeah. You know, like, I'm not getting it.
Starting point is 00:26:19 You're like, it's talking. Right. annoying. Yeah. But, okay, so then. Jorge speaks Spanish. Hey, Jorge. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:26:27 So we're watching the concert. It goes about... I mean, I swear to God, it was amazing. Wow. And then they start playing an acoustic version of Maps. Maps. Yes. Best videos maybe of all time.
Starting point is 00:26:40 Yeah, one of the best songs. I mean, it's just truly... It's like they're hit. People are recording. People are crying. And then I look to my right, the couple directly next to me, he proposes. What?
Starting point is 00:26:53 What? What do you mean? It's down on one knee and proposes to this bitch. During maps? During maps, right next to me. I look down. You know, that's her favorite song. And I go, fuck you.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Oh, you're trying to be a single bitch. Trying to be a single bitch. Get over my engagement and they're literally. I don't need a man to make me happy. This lady looks so happy right now. Never looked happier in her life. She's crying tears of joy. He's crying tears of joy.
Starting point is 00:27:19 They put the ring on. They kiss during the song. You guys are really ruining this room and my solo thing. It made me so upset. I was like, no, they're happy, whatever. I was like, it's a mistake. Find yourself first.
Starting point is 00:27:35 You're going to waste seven years. Oh, my God. Yeah. Wow. I couldn't. Right next to you? Right next to me. The couple directly next to me.
Starting point is 00:27:45 It was in, I couldn't, you can't write that. What a romantic way to do it. But I never considered when you pictured that as a proposal thing. that the people are also around you. You're just picturing them singing me here with the chick or me here with the dude. And then... Nope, everybody's around.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Everybody was around. He asked someone to film it behind them, so they were filming it, and then everybody cheered, and it was a big moment for them. And I literally was like, oh, shit. Did you film it? No, I was filming them,
Starting point is 00:28:15 and I just went to the side, and I think you could audibly hear me say, oh, shit. I was so upset. Oh, but yeah. Was that, which day of the trip was? Yeah, yeah. It was directly in the middle.
Starting point is 00:28:30 So I did two days before and two days after. So I was there for five days. How was that? Perfect. Earlier, later, later, if you had to do it over again. If I had to do it over again, I think it was, I don't think it would have mattered because I was so excited to do everything else.
Starting point is 00:28:46 I like getting used to a city before you do with things, where you're like, okay, I can, you weren't drinking that or we were? I had like a beer. Okay, but you're like, all right, I feel safe. I can wander out afterwards. I know the city. That's true. Yeah. Oh, yeah, so maybe, okay, I get that. If I had done it day one, that would have been bad
Starting point is 00:29:01 because I was so anxious. So I think, like, were you? I was anxious because it was my first time alone. Getting from any airport in any city is annoying and then doing it in another language is even more annoying. And you're afraid they're going to charge you too much? Yeah, you're going to get duped and you want to seem like a local,
Starting point is 00:29:17 but it's like, you're not. I'm not a local, just embrace the fact that you're not a local. Yeah. Okay, I am the Chica Blanca, okay? I am Geringa. Nice. Nice. And that's fine, okay?
Starting point is 00:29:27 You just gotta play to your strengths, which is, Ola, I try. I will try and speak the language. Did you learn anything? At the time I was trying to learn Italian. And so I had taken Spanish in high school for like six years, and I also dated a bunch of guys who spoke Spanish, Lankooks. And so I knew.
Starting point is 00:29:47 So I knew enough Spanish to get by. And I was trying to learn Italian, so I kept mixing up my Italian and my Spanish. But then I hadn't tried Spanish in so long, and then immediately started speaking Spanish with someone, and I was like, why am I trying to learn Italian? This is so stupid. Spanish is going to come back so much easier.
Starting point is 00:30:04 So I was able to get by. But when I go back, because I do definitely want to go back, I will do the duolingo. I probably have a tutor, like an I-talkie tutor, just to make life a little bit easier. There are some, like, it's easier now with Google Translate, you can just show it like a sign and tell you what it is. I did that a few times.
Starting point is 00:30:24 I did that a few times. I tried to get cheese and whatever, something in Paris and trying to, and I don't know French. Yeah. And then eventually I'm like, oh, Doc, and then it just says it and he goes, yeah, we got you. Yeah. I'll be like, give me that, they'll say it.
Starting point is 00:30:36 Yeah. I did that for one of my rounds of tacos. I was there and I was by myself and there was a soccer game playing. And so they couldn't really hear me. and then they were like, three of them came over and was like, da, da, da, da, da, da, and I went, I was like, ah, and I put up the thing and then they read it and they off, ah, okay.
Starting point is 00:30:53 And then they went and did it. Wow. Yeah. Oh, this place. Okay, we got to talk about tacos. Okay, this place. It's such a part of Mexico City. And by the way, I'll tell you too, just so you feel okay.
Starting point is 00:31:02 Tell me. My first time in Mexico City, I was frightened. Frightened. Okay. I'm very nervous. I'm not like, yeah, I know I travel a lot, but I'm also like probably more than healthy, self-preservation, like everyone's another.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Yeah. And so I'm scared of others. Yeah. And so I'm like, ways there are crime everywhere. And so you eventually like, oh, it's fine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the first night, first day is like right to the wherever you're staying and stay there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:29 You know? I stayed in the neighborhood. I went right there. I had a very cute Airbnb. Took a nap and then found a friend of mine gave me a whole list of restaurants. And so I went and I got fish tacos at a place that was walkable. near a park. So I was like, that's what I'm going to do today.
Starting point is 00:31:45 That's all I have to do today. How did you find it? Somebody told you about the tacos? Yeah. Someone sent me, like, I still have it. I'll send it to you if you ever go back. But he used to live there and he was a chef there. So he's like, these are the spots?
Starting point is 00:31:57 Oh, what a good fucking weapon. It was great. A guy telling you actually good stuff. And so I had the best fish taco of my life. Was it this? No, no, no. This was another place that was recommended to me that I can't wait to go back to. Blue tortillas.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Blue tortilla. French fries over the... French fries. It was... What's the one on the top? Steak and French fries? Steak and French fries. In a taco.
Starting point is 00:32:21 It's the best thing I've ever had. It's truly... I should find the place of what it's called because it's kind of famous. I don't really do that. Okay, great. Just kidding.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Fuck off. But I was there. It's a stand-up bar. So there was no sitting. You had to stand and you order the tacos and they come and they give it to you. So you're just standing outside on the bar.
Starting point is 00:32:39 And these two older men were there and they were eating and eating. and they spoke Spanish. I did not. And they were very sweet. They were very like, oh, she needs to, because I was being a little shy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:52 And they were like, oh, no, she needs to order. And they were very helpful. Yeah, and they were very sweet. And they helped me, like, I didn't know how the line worked. And so then they asked, and I was like, I actually don't know. And then they're like, we ask for you.
Starting point is 00:33:04 And then they asked, and then we all figured it out together. And then he ended up paying for my whole meal. No. Yes. He paid for my whole meal. I was like, and it was just like an older guy, not trying to fuck, just like a nice guy. Wow. And he was like, I pay for it.
Starting point is 00:33:19 It's okay. Welcome to our city. Thank you for coming. If that was the Middle East, you would be his now. Just cultural differences, you know. I mean, I would have led him. That was so nice. I'd be like, all right.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Yeah. Where do you live? Let's go. But I'll never forget that man. He was so sweet. Wow. Because I was, I was alone. I was a little shy.
Starting point is 00:33:38 I didn't want to, you know, you could tell that I was a little uncomfortable. and he's just like, I buy it for you. That's another thing with travel going to do cultures. Something is the small difference they'll never put in a lonely planet or something like that where like the lines work different. Like if you're coming to America and you don't know it, take a number.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Yeah. You know, thing. Oh my God. You're just be standing there like, where do I wait? You're never getting a Cats' Deli sandwich. Yeah, and you just be waiting and waiting and have no clue until eventually maybe figure it out. And so those little things that you're like,
Starting point is 00:34:04 no one would think to tell you. No. No. Because I would. Go to Cats's. Yeah. But they wouldn't go. make sure to grab a note.
Starting point is 00:34:12 You just see it. Go to Katz's, you have to stand in one of the 18 lines, and then you have to order. Take your line. Separate your wife. So you can both go see whoever's lines faster. And then you have to pay at the end. No one would have thought.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Have cash. I mean, so, yeah. The taco culture in Mexico City is nuts. It's nuts. It's, it's everywhere. Mm-hmm. Everybody's doing it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Did you just, like, stop it anywhere? It's kind of like the slice here. Yeah. I mean, I pretty much went to everywhere that this guy recommended. And, I mean, look at that. Wow. That was my fancy...
Starting point is 00:34:47 That was a nice one. Yeah. Because it was a fork. And then it was Beeria tacos. We're everywhere. And this was my fancy last night. Oh, yeah, beeria's big there, right? So good.
Starting point is 00:34:56 And so I really outdid myself. Drink the consomme. Oh, my God. Slurp, slurp. It's so good. It's so good. And, yeah, I spent, like, I dropped the most money I ever spent.
Starting point is 00:35:09 of all of Mexico, my whole trip was spent on that meal. It was so good. This was a... Sit down, fancy, fine dining kind of... Fine dining, pool? Yeah. No. What was that?
Starting point is 00:35:21 Poole. Pool? Poohold. P-U-J-O-L? Was that the place? It's like they're like Michelin. No. There was no Michelin.
Starting point is 00:35:31 I tried to get a reservation to that, but I couldn't. Overrated. Overrated? Yeah. It wasn't the best restaurant I ate at when I went there. Oh, okay. I mean... And it was the only one that was.
Starting point is 00:35:39 was like, the last tacos were the best thing I've, I think I've had in two years. Good, just overrated. Yeah. Really? It was that good. It was,
Starting point is 00:35:48 look how juicy it looks. I stood there and I was standing there with that old man who bought me the tacos. I ordered more before I knew that he was going to pay for my tacos. And I was like, I need two more of those. Well played, Jew. Thank you. Well played. And he got more.
Starting point is 00:36:03 And then he was like, I will pay you. And I was like, oh, I just ordered more. And he goes, that's okay. They also only cost like $3. You know, they were so cheap. And that's the expensive place. And that's, no, that was the cheap standing up place. That was the best taco I've ever had.
Starting point is 00:36:17 I mean, ever had. What's in the, what's in the little, like, a castan? I don't know. I think it was some kind of fried cornbread situation. Oh, it's not stuffed, or is it stuffed? Honestly, I don't know. I just remember the tacos. You know it?
Starting point is 00:36:30 I think that the cassadilla. Oh, it's a quesidia? Say it again, your way? It's cassadilla. I thought you said it more like Mexican. Casadia. Yay. There is.
Starting point is 00:36:41 You went from George DeHore on that one. No, it was so good. I mean, and then all the servers and all the, everyone was so nice. I was expecting, because I think maybe like a week later in Mexico City they had the, you know, not the riots, but the protests in the street about Americans coming down and staying and working remotely. Oh, really? Yes, there was a whole thing where people would be working in coffee shops,
Starting point is 00:37:13 and they would come in and they would just shout at them. They would take over the coffee shop and shout at them until they would leave. Yeah. Because, I mean, I get it. Like the Airbnbs are taking up all, making everything more expensive. So that neighborhood, I don't even, I don't even, I don't even say, believe it out, it's already kind of ruined. You tell me, how touristy was it?
Starting point is 00:37:29 It was pretty touristy. Yeah. So that was, in the beginning, there was a period where it was like, hey, this is the artsy place. Yeah. Come here, then Airbnb, which really kills a lot of places. Yeah. In Spain, they fight back. There's all these signs, no Airbnbs.
Starting point is 00:37:42 Yeah. Like, people hang out their balcony. Like, Airbnb go away. Yeah. Because it's, like, destroying the realness of a neighborhood. And so that neighborhood now is, like, you can't afford it if you're a local because, hey, we can get more to these whites. And so then the prices of food goes up, the price of whatever goes up.
Starting point is 00:37:59 And it goes from artsy and, like, and, not urban, but, like, you know, parts of the East Village are, like, trendier. Yes. It's like, all right, a little more expensive than Avenue D. Yeah. You know, but then it's like, now everywhere. So when I was traveling from Mexico to bottom of Argentina and back up, the top parts, Guatemala and Mexico, it was the graffiti, the anti-American graffiti was kind of like gringoes go home. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:28 And then when you got to the south, it was Yankees get out because it was less about like tourists fucking up their economy and more about like American. government fucking up their politics. One, I would say, is much worse. Yeah, but like, we're not worried about it. And Buenos Aires, like, we're actually pretty rich. We don't care about that. But, like, why are you trying to overthrow our elections? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:49 But up there, it's like, you guys are fucking up the economy, the way you're just coming here in droves. Yeah. And it went from, I'm sure, at first, like, nice to have you. Oh, we can make a little money. We're making money. And then, like, we've ruined it.
Starting point is 00:39:00 Yeah. So they were protests there. Yeah, like a week later. So I had heard that they had protests there maybe a few months before and then I was like oh so I was on the lookout so that's why I tried to speak Spanish everywhere I would try people knew exactly you know I was like lociento ablo English yeah it's not not bad I can get by but but yeah but then nothing happened everyone was so nice everyone was so sweet and then they would apologize to me for their bad
Starting point is 00:39:33 English I was like no no no I'm bad I'm the wrong one you are right Wow. Oh, yeah, they do that too. It's so, I'm sorry I don't speak. No, you're not supposed to. And you're like, no, it's okay. But also like, no, it's beyond okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:48 What are we even talking about? It's expected. There's no reason for you to speak a language. It's not yours. Yes, I'm unprepared. I'm the piece of shit. Yeah. But they were, but it was so great.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Yeah, but those tacos were, I mean, I dream about those tacos. Did you, like, get fat off those shit? I would fill up, so then I had to like learn how to, like get one and move, one and move, one and move. Because I'll just like, this was so good, I'm going to get five. And then I'm like, oh, I'm stuffed. And then I pass another good looking taco truck or something. And I'm like, fuck, I wish I had space.
Starting point is 00:40:18 No, I was pretty regimented. Like, I like a plan. I like to plan. Okay? So I was like, okay, I know I'm going to pick the one activity I'm going to do. And then I'm going to use this guy's cool-ass map and find a place near around whatever that is. And that's where I'm going to eat.
Starting point is 00:40:34 And so that's what I planned every day. How do you give you the map? It was on Google Maps. Google Maps. With his recommendations. Wow. All these pins. This guy, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:42 I'm going to start doing that for people. You should. You should definitely keep track. I want to try to write lists of like what to do in different places. I don't like to put it in writing out because I don't want to ruin it. Yeah. But like to a friend that's going, I'm like, oh, check out this one spot. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:59 I mean, he just gave me like a bunch of pins. Here I'll show you. It was like here. so all of these little flags those were all his recommendations and there were so many. And he marked him with a special marker? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:14 Whoa. I know. I mean, that's everywhere. I mean. So it's really like, wow, that's what you really want. Yeah. You want like these are definites, but like here's, like if I'm giving you a tour of the East Village or whatever,
Starting point is 00:41:27 like it was Shane Moss a few weeks ago, and he's like, we went to do something and then we're like, let's go to a bar. It's like, what's a cool bar? I was like, what I want to show you? Yeah. Obviously, there's a hundred. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:38 And then we ended up on like the one next to New York Comedy Club one for it. That? Which one? Upstairs. It's so cool. Oh, yes, KGB. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:50 It's so cool. I'm like, let's go there. We ended up seeing like a bunch of his friends at St. of New York, like Norman and Ronnie Chang and like where we're like, oh. And we ended up just drinking there. Yeah. But like, you want like, hey, here's 50. Depends what you're next to.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Yeah. how far you want to walk. What you're into, what your price point is. It was great. What a weapon to have? How did you meet that guy? I didn't. Laura Sogar, Matthew Resard's wife and comedian.
Starting point is 00:42:17 Oh, yeah. She was like, oh, she knew it from him back from when she was a swimmer. So she gave me this list, and then I imported it. Was it, it might have been, actually, it might have been my director of my special Matt Ott. His friend used to be the, yes, it's his friend. his friend gave me a list Laura Sogarde gave me a different list but the chef friend was my friend Matt Ott
Starting point is 00:42:41 When I was, I went to similar I guess, I went to Sao Paulo for Oasis Very cool Flew from Santiago where they actually played The night before and I was like, well, I'm gonna meet somebody So I'm not gonna go in Santiago But I was like fuck everybody This hostel filled up with black t-shirts
Starting point is 00:42:57 Yeah It was so cool, it was so cool The city was just alive with Oasis Yeah I think they did two days it might have just one, but flew over there. And then I was like, hey, I've never been to South Paulo. I managed to find, I didn't have any numbers with me.
Starting point is 00:43:12 I had a couple on paper, but so that I had Ryan O'Neill's number. He was going to come meet me from Ache, Pichu. And I was like, hey, can you, you know Mark Norman's number. Can you write to Mark Norman and ask him to find Haffi Bostos's number? And I need tips for South Paulo. And he goes, where are you trying to, you know, on WhatsApp, he got in touch. and he's like, what kind of place do you want to live? I'm like, East Village, whatever that is.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Yeah, yeah. Gotcha. This neighborhood or this neighborhood. And he goes, I'll give you some wrecks. Same shit. And it was like seven pages long. And I'm like, bro, it made my trip so much better. It does.
Starting point is 00:43:46 It takes away the tourist trap. It takes away the... I find some cool shit. Yes. It's like... And good. You know, it's going to be good. There is some overlap between tourist shit and good.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Yeah. Like that beer bar that's like right next to New School. Cool. No, not new school. It's an old, old, old beer bar. And all they have is light or dark. Oh, McSwerly's. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Yeah. But that's a tourist trap, but also it's actually a cool bar. Yeah, yeah. It's cool. It has a lot of history. Yeah. I would say it's the same.
Starting point is 00:44:18 When I was in Mexico City, people kept recommending the churro place, whatever the first churro, whatever. And so you go to that and you're like, yeah, this is fantastic. Yeah. This is so good.
Starting point is 00:44:29 I think I have a picture of that where I got a churro and they're like, cinnamon hot chocolate and then you just dip it and you're like yeah yeah there it is oh true area yeah that's a tourist trap yeah but it's so good 1935 to 2025 yeah it's crazy yeah it's crazy wow yeah yeah yeah so uh but that one you were like yeah i'll i'll wait in line how was it delicious who's that churros are overrated what it's literally it's like a dough boy do you ever had a dough boy it's like funnel plan no it's not definitely not funnel cake. Funnel cake doesn't have any cinnamon and sugar on it. It's just
Starting point is 00:45:08 bright dough. This is a lighter dough. It's crispier and it's covered. Horan, can you Google, is Churro just a long funnel cake? It is not. It's a completely different doughing consistency. Is it different dough? I am a trash bird who has had, yeah, because funnel cake is... A churro isn't just a chewy funnel cake, but it's a discery. It's a disdainting. It's a distinct pastry with a different dough. Okay, and signature is on the outside, tender on the inside. Well, thank you. Why did man explain me?
Starting point is 00:45:40 Remember when I used to be fat? Yeah. You're right. Remember that? Mouthfeel. They differ in preparation and mouth feel. I've never seen that word before. Mouthfeel.
Starting point is 00:45:51 I mean, I'll give you a mouth feel. Oh, the texture's different. Okay. Thank you. Flavor. Okay. I appreciate this, Jorge. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:46:01 I'll give another chance. Churros are fantastic. But the place at that place particularly was very good. Well, hold on, along with a popular mashup, it's Disneyland's copycat Churro funnel cake. Click on that. Okay. You're cherry picking. No, no, I know.
Starting point is 00:46:18 It's different. They're definitely mashing you up. It's huge. It's like a fucking Kung Pal burrito. I know they're different. Interesting. So it's a funnel cake made out of churro. I mean, that's wild.
Starting point is 00:46:28 I mean. That's wild. That is why this country has a lot of diabetes. Diabetes. The diabetes is strong in the Americas. Wow. Yeah. Hey, I want to tell you a story about, yeah, yeah, yes.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Oh, tell me, please. But not a story exactly, but like, so I was over at Jays. Okay. Me and his chick, we're watching, like, videos. And I go, we'll pull up maps. I haven't seen it in forever. And then Jay goes, no, I like another one better. Lion?
Starting point is 00:46:57 A gold lion. Gold lion. Okay. Because I got probably too locked in on maps. video and I probably didn't give anything else chance enough. So I was like, sure. I remember watching. I think there's images. And then Christine was like,
Starting point is 00:47:12 look at her. She's just like, and it's in her youth days-ish. And she's like, she's just some, what's the term? It was respectful, but not on paper. It was like just an East Village slut. You know? But it wasn't slut. It was like an East Village Trollope.
Starting point is 00:47:27 That's something like that. But it was like, I know what she meant. It was like one of the cool chicks in the East Village and the Oaths. And she probably hit in when was that first big album? The first big album? 2004, five, six, seven? 2004, 2003, because I was in high school.
Starting point is 00:47:42 Okay. So that means in 2001, she's probably a waitress. Yeah. Give her take, depending what the job was, but that type of thing, just getting by. You know? I always like to think of like Patty Smith
Starting point is 00:47:53 when she was living with all those people was like, she's TGI Friday's waitress. And somebody was like, this bitch is the worst waitress you ever had. Where's my Pepsi? Yeah. Not idea. I love, I've been waiting for hot sauce for so long.
Starting point is 00:48:06 If you don't care, don't do this. If you don't even, I can't remember my ketchup, you're never going to make it. And then they probably saw her. I'm like, wow, if I ever saw her in real life, I remember her. Like, you did see her in real life. Yeah. You should have her gave her a bad tip. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:19 But anyway, I was just thinking about her in the aughts, like early off before she made it. And all those people from like, like, meet me in the bathroom. Yeah. Meet me in the. Yeah, I think, or meet me in the stall? Maybe, no. Meet me in the bathroom? Yep. Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:36 And I was like, hey, I'm an East Village guy. And I was like, yeah, these are the type of people that are around now, but it's kind of like over the hump. Like in the 80s was a different thing, 70s and 80s. And then the aughts was like, I mean, it's always going to be that like, Moonlight in Paris, what's the one where he goes back in time to another time? Yes. And then.
Starting point is 00:48:56 Moonlight and Paris, the Woody Allen movie. Yeah, and then they go back in time from there. It's like, no, this time is the best. And she's like, no, no, I would have liked him born 60 years ago. that's better. But anyway, I was like, it's so cool. And Christine, I was like, I think I would have known her. And Christine's like, yeah, you would have, yeah, that's who you would have hung with.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Yeah. You would have been, started in 1999. You would have been around these, the wannabe musicians, want to be comics, want to be writers, want to be artists, and just know them. But I started in L.A. Yeah. And so I didn't get to know them. And then I was talking to David Cross.
Starting point is 00:49:27 And then it hit me. This was like two days later. I was like, oh, hold on a second. you were here in the odds. Yeah. You were like the comedian of that group of artists. And you would have, I don't know if you knew her, but like, you knew all, like, you knew those people, the cool ones. It was like, yeah, dude, it was a wild time.
Starting point is 00:49:47 Did he know them? I don't think he knew her, but it was like, I bet he had talked to her at a bar without realizing. Yeah. You know? Yeah. And it was like, he was like 10 years ahead. I remember starting and seeing him. him on TV.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Yeah. And going, it was you and Janine. He goes, it was just Janine. Really? He goes, we were all in her shadow. The way in that book,
Starting point is 00:50:08 they were like, it's the strokes and we were all trying to buy for a second. Yeah, yeah. And I'm like, man, it was so cool, but it was just too expensive. I couldn't start here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:17 That is very true. But man, it would have been cool. That would have been so cool. I mean, I love her. I saw her in college, or I saw the Yeah, yeah,
Starting point is 00:50:27 in a very small, like, indie rock. They had just, exploded. Wow. So they were doing underplays based on their new size. Basically. So pretty much shamed it his whole career. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:37 By the time it came around to doing the gig, it's too small. Yeah, and so it was full. She was running around in a leotard, spitting on everybody. What do you mean? It was fantastic. Oh yeah, she spits on people. That's what she would stand up and she'd go. No way.
Starting point is 00:50:50 She spit. Yeah, Tim Duffy, who is friends with Peter Rovello, who also used to do comedy out in Staten Island, he said that he saw her at a concert and she spit. at a concert and she spit in his face. Yeah. That's her thing? That's her thing. She rules.
Starting point is 00:51:06 Karen, no, spit her. Hey, get a shot up, get a picture of her spitting on her videos. I mean, she, yeah, I'm sure there's plenty. I thought you meant like she was talking and spitting, like a gym teacher. No, no, no. Toa. Hoc, too. That's so hot.
Starting point is 00:51:17 That used to be her thing. Really? You think that's hot. Sort of. I mean, sure. I mean. I mean. I don't know if it was meant to be in his mouth.
Starting point is 00:51:28 My pants are tight. Yeah. Karen O's spitting. Is there anything? Is there anything happen? I'll call it up in a second. So you just hit me with it when you get it. But so you get there.
Starting point is 00:51:41 Okay, yes. You get an Airbnb. How cheap is that? It was pretty cheap. It was, I can't remember, but I remember it was under, like, for the five days, it was under like 500 American dollars. Wow. Five, maybe 600, you know.
Starting point is 00:51:56 Your dollar really does go far in a place. It goes pretty far. And that's overpriced to them. Yeah. So that means like 10 years ago. And it was a nice building. It had a gym in it. Oh.
Starting point is 00:52:04 It was on like the second floor. It had a living room and a bedroom and a full kitchen, which I never used. But yeah, it wasn't just like a room, you know. It was awesome. It was, it was so cool. And it was in the heart of everything. I walked everywhere. I took a cab every once in a while.
Starting point is 00:52:22 No way. Oh, here you go. She's good. Oh, she spits up like that. No, but she'll like, there's. I believe there's a video of her just spitting on. That's different. That's like a Lewis Gomez.
Starting point is 00:52:37 No, no, no. She like would spit at people. It was great. Wow. I mean, yeah, I mean, you. It wouldn't make me hard. I would get turned on with a confidence. That kind of confidence would turn me on.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Yeah, she was a bad bitch. It still is. She put on a great show. Didn't spit on anybody. She's a mom now. She's a mom now. She was kind of twirling around. It's so hard for those people who have gone on to like life to like still bring it.
Starting point is 00:53:01 Yeah. But you have to make a decision like, hey, these people come to see a show, that Lou Gehrig thing. What was that? Was it Lou Gehrig or somebody else? I have no idea. No, Lou Gehrig had to retire because of a disease, I think. Oh.
Starting point is 00:53:16 Lou Gehrick's disease? Yeah. Yeah. But let's say it was him. Okay, sure. Let's say Mickey Mantle. Fuck it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:53:22 And he was older. He was like near and 40. He was already going to be a hallfamer. Yeah. And he was like, like, legged out, just slid head first and I cut up his lip or whatever into second and like and like still got out whatever and it was like dude you don't have to try this hard like you're already a hall of famer you're out like why do this because there's some kid in here who's never seen me play before that's true yeah and it's so excited yeah i'm not gonna fucking
Starting point is 00:53:48 just jogged a second take me out yeah i mean if you think about that that that's every show that we have we have no people come to your shows but some people have been listening to you for years and then you put on not a good show i mean that's mortifying stuff oh i mean that's from Minnesota to see you and you're like, damn it. Yeah. Yeah, that's, that would feel terrible. Yeah. I mean, I don't, I mean, I'm not as established as you, but you should feel terrible.
Starting point is 00:54:12 I mean, I hate it when it's like, I'll, I'm sorry, I'm at the stand of the cellar in New York comedy club. It's like, I'm working on something. Yeah. But there are those nights when you're on the road where it's your show. Mm-hmm. And then you're just not as on. There's better and worse shows. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:26 Or I didn't get off sleep or whatever. And then it's like, that sucked. They actually came to see me and it wasn't as good as it should have been. This last Thursday, I was in Portsmouth, and this is the first time I've, because of the funny AF show, this is the first time I've been, uh,
Starting point is 00:54:41 be able to have been able to sell, fill a room. Uh, and. Caitlin Hart Show. Kevin Hart Show. Yeah. Where him and, uh, Kumananajiani and Chelsea Handler shot a thing pretending to be old friends around a table to promote it.
Starting point is 00:54:57 It's so lame, but, but the show itself great. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, I don't know. Do they have beef? No. It was just like they're just not friends. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:55:04 And they're like, let's all talk. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was like Madonna and Schumer and all those people like sitting around playing Truth or Dare. Yeah. Okay, I dare you to do a tour of all your old hits. Like, bitch, I'll do it.
Starting point is 00:55:15 I'm like, this is set up. I hate it when you see through phoniness. Yeah. Well, they, uh... But you did the stand-up part. Yeah, I did the stand-up part. I had nothing to do with the roundtable. I did the stand-up part.
Starting point is 00:55:30 And so I came on Thursday and on the way to the show on Thursday, my opener and dear friend Jill Weiner, we got into a car accident. It was like a six or seven car pile up, basically. It was a fender bender, boom, boom, boom, boom. And her car got wrecked. Like front, just completely smashed in, rear smashed in. Yeah, it was awful. And it took a few hours to sort out. And then we had to rent a car. And then we had to drive. And it became a whole ordeal. And then we get to the show. We have to do a show. And I'm trying my hardest, but I'm wiped out. I'm so tired. I think I got whiplash in my neck, you know,
Starting point is 00:56:07 because it was like, it hurt like three days later. But it was, I mean, I, it wasn't my best. It was like a B-minus game. And I felt terrible about it. And they're just now coming to see you. And they're just now coming to see me. And I was like, I can do better, but my head hurts and I'm tired and I didn't get to sleep.
Starting point is 00:56:25 And I didn't get to go over my notes beforehand. Yeah. I felt terrible. But they were lovely. They were perfectly lovely. But God. That sucks. Yeah, you'll never get it back too.
Starting point is 00:56:35 I'll never get it back. Yeah, which is like, it always feels like, this is the time where I'm like, okay, I have to prove to you that you've made the right decision to come out live and I want you to come back the next time I'm in town. And I feel like on Thursday I got the yell on that one. You'd be like, ah, sorry.
Starting point is 00:56:48 Yeah, it was fine. You know, there's a reason she didn't win. Spoiler alert. Yeah, you see the reviews of like Paul Simon, this new tour and people like, eh. Really? His voice is gone, so he's just doing like the quietest songs. And it's like, nah, I wanted to play Grace Land,
Starting point is 00:57:02 I didn't do it. Or fucking. Lily Allen, which her new album rules, but like she's just doing the album, so she's on stage for about 48 minutes. Really? She's not doing the other stuff? Uh-huh. Oh. Yeah, her opening band is a...
Starting point is 00:57:16 Yeah, through all those. L-D-N. But... It seems like that should be the song she should open with. Yeah, do all that and then play the album. Yeah. Or vice versa. Anyway. But, so let me ask you about this, about Mexico City. Okay, great. The bathroom situation,
Starting point is 00:57:31 and what came out of you in those bathrooms. Jorge, can you look up Mexico City diarrhea? Okay, go ahead. I was warned about drinking the water. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:45 And so I brought bottled water everywhere. Yeah. And that was fine. I never got sick. Images. What? You never got sick? Never got sick?
Starting point is 00:57:54 Did you have any loose? What the fuck? That's what came up. Wow, what a cute little image. Not one poop picture came up in Mexico City diarrhea? Oh, thank God. Take off the safe.
Starting point is 00:58:04 Safety searches, please. No, leave them on. I don't want to see it. Why do you have safety searches? A gas digital. By the way, today's episode is being recorded at Gas Digital. Okay. Wow, still nothing.
Starting point is 00:58:15 There's more fucking diary picks and me and Jillis text threads. I mean, you guys are nasty. Yeah. Yeah, no, no, I never got sick. All right, forget it. I know, but I was like truly warned. Yeah, you stayed away from the water. Yeah, so I stayed away from the water.
Starting point is 00:58:30 I stayed away from the ice. I had beer. You were worried about it. It was just something because I travel alone and I don't speak the language, I was like, bitch, you can't get diarrhea and be like, don't dance to Albanyo, you know? Yeah, yeah. I didn't have the confidence. So I just, and then also the recommendations I got, I only ate at the recommendations.
Starting point is 00:58:50 So I literally, I had no issues. I think I maybe had a tummy rumble once, but I was home. Did you have any of those Micheladas there? Micheladas, no, I didn't. They have the worst ones. The worst one. Mexico in general has, it's. They care about food so much that they high-end it.
Starting point is 00:59:08 I'm not from our wealth. I'm just like they give a fuck. Yeah. And they want to serve a good meal. They want to eat a good meal. Everything. The concessions at movie theaters are like, their game blows our game out of the water.
Starting point is 00:59:19 It's so good. But the one thing they do shitty is Micheladas. Okay. Jorge. Let them know. Mexican Michelada. It's got full of tamarind and it just drips. You never had any of these?
Starting point is 00:59:31 No. Oh, it fucking sucks. I had margaritas, wine. Yeah, look up, look at, yeah, that one, sure. Oh. So they line it, it should just be a rim of like salt and like line. But then it's got this tamarin like gummy juice and it's so, so much. It looks like brown milk.
Starting point is 00:59:55 It's grch. You had wines? You had a lot of wines? I had a lot of wines, a lot of beer. The beer was the easiest because they just pop it open and give it to you. And then, but also I wasn't getting wasted because I was alone as a woman. And so I was like, I think I,
Starting point is 01:00:10 the one place where I used the Google Translate, they gave me, I had a margarita there. And that was wonderful. You gotta get a margarita next goal. You gotta get one margarita, you know? Oh, so you were conscious of that, like don't get drunk, I'm alone or a farm in a place. Yeah, I didn't get drunk the whole time I was there.
Starting point is 01:00:25 That is a unfortunate. You've got to be a little more careful as a chick. Yeah, yeah, for sure. And I, and having the mother, that I've had. You know, she was like, you're gonna die out there. I was like,
Starting point is 01:00:38 I'm definitely not gonna die. My older sister was the same way, you know, but I treated it like going on dates in New York City. I share my pen with my closest friends and I'd say, I'm going here,
Starting point is 01:00:48 and this is who I'm meeting, and then you go. I remember when Tinder kind of started and we were at LOL, and I think it was Fee. No, it wasn't Fia. It was somebody could have been Korean.
Starting point is 01:01:01 I don't know who it was a long time ago. and they're like I'm going on this Tinder, this date on Tinder, but I'm nervous, what if he kills me? And it's like, no, but before this, it was a guy you met at a bar. There's a record of it now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:13 This is safer. Well, when you meet a guy at a bar, they're usually not alone, they're with their friends. So you see like, oh, it's a real human? Yes. It's a serial killer. Yeah, and you see actually the face, you know, that the picture matches the face,
Starting point is 01:01:25 you know? Yeah. When you meet in a bar, there is no picture, it's just the face. And you got a vibe, you know if he's weird or not. See, the first, going to the Tinder, you're going for the vibe to see if there's a vibe.
Starting point is 01:01:37 That changed too. Yeah. Back then you had to have matches on Facebook. It was connected to your Facebook. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Wait, look up some other city, some other country, Michalada. Let's go with, let's go with. It looks like syrup.
Starting point is 01:01:51 You go with your city, your country. Boom. Oh, yeah. Boom. Yeah. That looks delicious. So much better. It doesn't have the, go big on that.
Starting point is 01:02:07 It doesn't have the syrupy shit. It's just a little line. The stuff is in there, but it's not this tamarind sweet shit. Yeah, that's crazy. I got so nauseous out of Lucha Libre and fucking threw up from drinking some of those videos. Did you go to Lucha Libre? No, I flew in on that day. Okay.
Starting point is 01:02:23 And so I wasn't brave enough. Regret? For sure. Next time I will go back and I will make sure I do that. Because everybody that I talked to when I was alone was like, oh, you got to do Lucha Libra. When do you leave, you got to go. It's so whole. So fun.
Starting point is 01:02:36 Yeah. And I was like, oh, I leave. I think I literally, I arrived on the day. But it was also, I arrived at like five o'clock at night, and it started at six or something like that. So I was like, I was going to miss it. What else did you get into then? I went to, I'm an artist. So I went to the art museums.
Starting point is 01:02:56 Okay. Did you see that giant mural by Diego? Yes. I went to there. That was a cool day because Val from the comedy seller. Oh, she loves Mexico City. She loves Mexico City. She's got tips.
Starting point is 01:03:10 She recommended this, it's in the middle of, like, the city, you know, and it was, like, very off the beaten path of the city. You know, it's still very metropolis, whatever, but it was just three stories of this old library with all murals from Diego Rivera and other artists, but mostly Diego Rivera. I have a few pictures of that. Really? Yeah, and it was free. You just go in.
Starting point is 01:03:40 Wow. It was so cool. And some of them I recognized, some of them I didn't, but you could definitely recognize it. That is something else. That was another, that is also, I think, a Diego. A Diego. Some detail.
Starting point is 01:03:55 That's the Frida Callow House. I did that. That was great. Okay, I got to talk to you about that. And I loved that picture of her. She's just fucking smoking weed. She made her like, it's, It's just so interesting that she, it's kind of, she's a stand-up.
Starting point is 01:04:08 She made her, like, body part of her output. Mm-hmm. You know? Well, yeah, she had so much trauma with her body. Yeah, but it's, like, using it, not even just, like, to draw from, but to, like, she puts herself in it. It's, like, self-porture galore. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:04:23 And, like, yeah, and all the, like, brace shit, too, but, like, like, leaning into the one eyebrow and, like, whatever. What did you think of the house? What did you tell me a takeaway? The blue house? The blue house? I have a few pictures of that too. Yeah, show me that.
Starting point is 01:04:37 I got to see that again. I got to see that color blue. It was, bluish purple. It's truly like the most beautiful blue. I mean, and then... You can't really get it. I've tried to get it.
Starting point is 01:04:45 Yeah. They really have to mix it and try to match it. It's, or you can get it. You got to get it imported and it's hell expensive. Yes. It's gorgeous. And I love that it was just all walled in, you know, everything was walled in. And so they had...
Starting point is 01:05:00 Inclosed. Look at it. Just the door frame and then the green of the door. It's just like, it's just pretty. It's so pretty. It's so bold. I mean, America could never. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:05:11 America would never have this color scheme. That's crazy. You would need deep in the, yeah. Maybe New Orleans. Maybe. You know, but, yeah. And then all the, there was like one with a reflecting pool. What stood out for you at her house?
Starting point is 01:05:27 I loved going up into where her studio was, where she would write. They had the few desks there. And then, yeah, that was so pretty. That's outside of the water. And then all the light that came in, and then you could just see, like, you could actually see the writing, you know? You see her penmanship and stuff like that.
Starting point is 01:05:46 It was very cool. I'm kind of a, if I had to pick a religion, it's maybe an animist. What does that mean? What is it? I haven't really researched enough. They call it the world's oldest religion where it's just like everything has,
Starting point is 01:05:59 I'm just going to half-ass this, but kind of everything has a soul. Okay. So trees, people, but even rocks are like, yeah. So then like, if you touch the pyramids, they're like, they've been here for a few thousand years. Yeah. Depending on who you ask, you know, between like two and like 50. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:20 I don't know, somewhere in the middle there. And so they've seen stuff. They've seen civilizations come and go. Yeah. You know, when you're in Jerusalem and you're like lean on a wall, you're like, oh, a Roman soldier leaned on this, not a redone wall, this exact stone while he's like, taking a break from carrying Jesus to his resting spot. And it's just like, it just takes you back. And when I see some of these places,
Starting point is 01:06:41 Neruda's house in, is that Santiago? No, I know, some city in Chile. And you see where he writes. And you see some of his words. You're like, I can just imagine this guy or this chick, like doing it. And you're like, it's just so cool. You just like it transported for a second.
Starting point is 01:07:04 You know, with a light. coming in, you can imagine yourself sitting there writing. And then you see her bed and you imagine her being bedridden. Yeah. You know, and you're like, how much. I don't listen to her husband, fuck her sister downstairs.
Starting point is 01:07:14 I mean, insane. And then also I just love the, like they would have a bunch of salons, you know, and so I'd just, that one picture of her just fucking smoking. That was in the where she was like, yeah, I had a bunch of friends over
Starting point is 01:07:28 and we were just fucking shooting the shit. And it was all like the top level communist of the time. Yeah, exactly. Just hanging out. And all different. mediums too. It was so cool.
Starting point is 01:07:38 That's how Berlin is every time I'm there. Really? We're all just going to do a deep discussion about graffiti with a graffiti artist and who the top graffiti guys are and then someone else is doing some other crazy artistic thing. And maybe it's not, but this has just been my experience. Everyone's into what they're doing and accomplishing and not like what someone else shouldn't be doing. Yeah. You know, where it's like, let's say it was after the roast, all the discussion would be about like how big Jay did it for different
Starting point is 01:08:05 style. Yeah. And then, and then, and then Cheryl Underwood, a different different style than him. And then Tony was more rapid fire and it'd be like, wow, they're doing these things. Yeah. And it wouldn't, any, none of it would be about like what they didn't care for. Yeah. It would just be focusing what they did. And man, it must have been so cool to be like, so how are you going to overthrow your government where you're living? I'm doing it through painting. Yeah. Remember how we're talking and we could get arrested for just having this conversation? That's crazy, you know. What else do you like about freedom of sauce? It's the, it's the, I went twice, the second time I didn't get reservations in time, and I was like, regretful that I didn't
Starting point is 01:08:39 go back. Yeah. But at least I went once. Yeah, I went just, yeah, obviously, I just went the one time. But, yeah, I really just loved. And then you actually see the paintings. Yeah. You know, it's.
Starting point is 01:08:51 Her wardrobe that was there. She's incredibly, and how small she was. She was so little, you know? It was just really, really cool. I remember that relationship with Diego Rivera. Yeah. And her, hey, can you find the, like, famous giant. Diego.
Starting point is 01:09:06 The Guernica? Yeah, I guess it's like the entire down. No, then it's something in Mexico City. Ooh, is it possible? Yeah, I think it was further downtown. But it was like every detail is like a different type of like, and here the priests and here's this, and here's the crooked cop and here's this.
Starting point is 01:09:22 There's a picture that I had of, I believe it was a stairwell. Yeah. And that is not that one, another stairwell. Sorry. You can keep leaving through it. It's okay.
Starting point is 01:09:36 We'll see, like, flip. It'll call it. Yeah. Wow. That was the, I mean, this is the coolest thing. I mean, and so someone had to commission that. That's a rich person going, I'm going to pay for this. That's the library.
Starting point is 01:09:48 That's the public library. So who commissioned? The government. The government commission. Zoom, if you can. And it's just an entire stale. I mean, isn't it crazy? Okay, so like, stay, yeah, stay right there.
Starting point is 01:10:00 So, like, in the one I was talking about, they had a code where it's like, it shows you the outlines of each one and shows you what each person represents or is. Yeah. And so you go like, oh, that's that, that's that, you know? Oh, nice. Yeah. That's cool. Because it's all meaningful.
Starting point is 01:10:14 Yeah. And so, like, the cactus plan is probably meaningful. And, like, wow, so you just go up the steps. Yeah. That's just to transport you on the floor. This was just, yeah, this is just the stairs. Yeah, nice, nice pace. I mean, it's gorgeous.
Starting point is 01:10:26 Wow, you got a Zapatista over there. It's, it was wild. And then every floor, it was like a different theme. Really? Yeah. On the stairwell. It was so cool. It's a public library?
Starting point is 01:10:36 It's like a government building. The art in Mexico City is bar none. It's just like, God, they lean into it. Do you go to any galleries or anything? I went to their contemporary art museum, and then the history of Mexico Museum or the Americas. I forget what that's called, Agriculture Museum. Okay. I'm blanking on the name.
Starting point is 01:11:04 It doesn't matter. But yeah, it was a... Was the museum I told you about still there, or is it gone? Which one was that? I think it was... I don't know the name of it. I think it might be traveling. It's the Museum of Broken Relationships or something like that.
Starting point is 01:11:18 Oh, no, that wasn't there. This one, the one with all the skulls on it, the picture that I have all the skulls. That is from the History of Mexico Museum. And so they had that huge wall of just... And those were carved out of stone from like the Aztecs, you know, so long ago. It's probably not, please don't quote me on the Aztecs. A lot of times we get comments on this.
Starting point is 01:11:42 And guys, please, by the way, do leave a comment, whatever. If you've been to Mexico City or anywhere else in Mexico and you liked it, like leave something you did. Or just leave a comment of any kind for the algorithm. Yeah, please. Also, I should say this, when you go to prosciutto Rose. Yes. Wooop. Leave a comment saying you came from, you'd be tripping.
Starting point is 01:12:01 or it's just something, something kind of retardo. I don't know. Some sort of comment to help it out. Any comment really does help. Even if, please don't be mean to me, but. Yeah. Please, God. I'm a nice lady.
Starting point is 01:12:18 It'll be mean to her, but something. I don't know. You didn't do anything lame. Just say you came from you'd be tripping. Yeah, okay. That's fair. That's totally. That's fair.
Starting point is 01:12:25 Came because of Ari. Yeah. Throw his name in there. Come on. Let's have fun. The thing I remember from Frida's house that got me was, so it's that vibe. Same thing with Neruda's house. He's two.
Starting point is 01:12:40 I think he's one in Santiago also that I didn't get to. But like, and then sounds like this or whatever. I kind of remember that too. And like staring up, she's bedridden and she fucked up with the ceiling so she could like look at stuff. Yeah. But like going to the courtyard, I was there with four friends, five. and dumb fucking detail to stop a story for her.
Starting point is 01:13:04 So, for my friends, what a fucking dumb fuck. You sound like my aunt. No, it was five. No, it was five friends. Because Susan came and Susan really wanted to come. Mom, it doesn't matter. His part doesn't matter.
Starting point is 01:13:15 You know, Susan called me the other day. And she said. Yeah. And not stop, Mom, just say it. We're in the courtyard. A couple of them went to the bathroom. And I'm sitting there. I had a little notebook on me.
Starting point is 01:13:28 me. Yeah. And I was just like, oh, I'm waiting for them to come out of the bathroom. When I started writing, just like thoughts were coming out and like, hey, what are we going next? And I was like, guys, I'm going to catch up with you. Yeah. I'm feeling so creative here.
Starting point is 01:13:41 Yeah. And it just felt like she designed this courtyard for creativity. And I was, I don't know, maybe I'm putting it on her, but I was like, it's just coming out of me now. Yeah. And I just sat there for hours and just wrote, which I never do. Yeah. That's so cool.
Starting point is 01:13:58 I mean, yeah, what a... She hand-built it. It wasn't so that she moved in. Well, it was her family's building. And then she filtered it. Yeah, she created the blue. It wasn't blue. And she's a...
Starting point is 01:14:09 Little walkways and, like, yeah, you go to a different part of it. So they're like, all right, I'm out of ideas here. Let me go over here, get a different view. Yeah. It's, I mean, it was so beautiful. I hung out there for a while. And then I went to, down the block, they had, like, a marketplace. And that's where I got lunch.
Starting point is 01:14:28 I just sat. It was like a huge, like, quote unquote mess hall with a bunch of different vendors. And so I just picked one with crickets. Crickets. Yeah, because I was like, I didn't eat the crickets, but I was like, if they're selling crickets, then it's probably going to be more authentic. Yeah. You didn't have the crickets?
Starting point is 01:14:46 No, I didn't have the crickets. No, I don't know. I was already afraid of diarrhea. I'm not going to throw crickets on there, you know. They come in a bag, too. It's like, I don't know where this came from when you made these. Yeah. I'm just like, show up with your hair.
Starting point is 01:14:57 And just like show up with your hand. Like, all right. It just tastes like corn chips. Yeah. But there was, the food was great. I had a Coca-Cola and then I went home. Mexican Coke. Mexican Coke.
Starting point is 01:15:06 And when they try to sell that as more healthy than water. It's like Mexico, it's with real sugar. I'm like, sugar's bad. Yeah. What? All so bad. Yeah. So then, so that's pretty much a trip or where there are other stuff?
Starting point is 01:15:22 The museums, oh, I went to like in the middle of, the big square there was like the Aztec ruins yeah and so I was just walking around
Starting point is 01:15:37 looking at the big church you know the basilica or whatever and then they were having a mass so I couldn't go inside that's cool to see though it was cool to see but I'm also Catholic and so I was like I respected I you know and then also
Starting point is 01:15:51 I have no interest so but right next door was like this was the ruins. And so you pay like six or whatever pesos, and then I went it in. And it was cool to see something that old. It's just so old.
Starting point is 01:16:09 We think we got old shit. No, that's old shit. And just walking around. And then they were like, and this is where they did human sacrifices. And you're like, well, okay. You see the carving in the fucking block. And you're like, oh, it's kind of sad.
Starting point is 01:16:24 The human sacrifice shit was like nothing. It's all over everywhere, all the old Mayan ruins too. And it was like, oh, putting them on a giant, like, concrete block and, like, roll them down. And you see how far the steps go. Like, by the way, that's only like two-thirds uncovered. So it goes further. You're like, what the fuck? I mean, yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:43 Yeah. So that was, I think, the last thing that I did. And then I took myself out to a nice meal. Did you have a good time just walking around? Yeah. I just wandered. I just wandered. I picked a, you know, I had a bunch of pastries.
Starting point is 01:16:56 You know, I just went to different places that everybody recommended. And it was just like... And you're like, oh, let me stop in here. Yeah, let me just wander. A lot of vintage. Walked around, a lot of vintage. But then I would go to a vintage shop and they're selling stuff from like Wisconsin. That's so funny.
Starting point is 01:17:08 That's so funny. I was like, no! It's like, that's foreign here. Yeah. So... Whenever I was trying to get local beers wherever I would go. And then in Mexico, I was like, no, I want like a local. And they're like, yeah, Modelo, dude.
Starting point is 01:17:21 Yeah. And I'm like, oh, it feels like so... It just traveled. Everything else, like Corona? I'm like, bro. Yeah. But yeah, it was honestly, I'll never forget that trip. It was so, and I did it alone.
Starting point is 01:17:36 Didn't have any problem. Never got robbed. Never got, never felt like, oh shit, that kind of were close. No, it was really like, it was wonderful. I had a great time. And I would do it again in a second. Now I'm like, what other band do I want to see in what country? You know, where can I find that Venn diagram again?
Starting point is 01:17:55 Now I want to do it. Queens of Stone Age in Iceland, I think. Wow, that's cool. That's cool. Or he stopped in Iceland and went to Switzerland, I forget which one, but yeah, it's like, they were these comedy sisters
Starting point is 01:18:09 too tall, like six feet, six one and kind of big. I think they're from Austin. And they would do this, but for comedy. Make an excuse to take a trip. I remember getting offstage in Reykavik, and they were there, like, what? Yeah. Like when we want to go to Iceland, we'll do it around this, but then we're here for another week.
Starting point is 01:18:29 That's great. And you're like, oh, wow. See, that's the, that's the move. Yeah. That's the move. A music show and just go. Did you learn anything about yourself from all this? I learned that I like being alone.
Starting point is 01:18:41 I actually enjoy it. That's like a huge realization. Yeah, I do want a partner, and I want, but I will always have to carve out alone time. Because if I can do that and enjoy myself, and I was like having a nice time, and people would come up and talk to me, and I'd be like, no. You know, I just like, I'm having nice thoughts. I'm having a nice time. I'm experiencing everything I want to, I would go home in the middle of the day and take a nap. It was great.
Starting point is 01:19:04 It was honestly, and I didn't feel the need, because my family is a family of doers, you know. If we're going to go somewhere, we're going to do every single thing. You're supposed to do. One thing a day and then just wandered? And wandered in eight. Yeah, it was great. It was truly, it was like, it was how I was like, oh, this is how I want to take vacations now. And if I want to go somewhere, being alone is not going to stop me.
Starting point is 01:19:25 I can do this now. And now I'm also not going to settle for a partner. There's an emotional leverage you have where you're like, if you need to be with somebody, you're like, I'll settle. Yeah. But if you're like, hey, I'm good on my own. So bring it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:40 And then I'll be with you. But if not, it's not a fallback. It's not a far fall. It's just like, I actually like being on my own. So like, take, if you want to take me out of it, win me out of it. You have to add to my life. Yeah. You have to add before you take.
Starting point is 01:19:53 What a good thing to learn. Yeah. I mean, truly. I mean, truly. It was my E. Pray love. It was my E. Pray love. Okay? And then I changed the narrative at the end.
Starting point is 01:20:02 I did not end up with Javier.R. DEM. Yeah. I ended up alone. And that's, and that's way better. I don't think women were ready for that real message of what it should have been for E. Pray, Love back then. No, no, no. That was definitely, it was not ready.
Starting point is 01:20:15 It was like, she's ready to fall in love again. It's like, no, just be alone. You just spend all this time in this bad marriage and ended up cheating on you. Just be alone. If not for stand-up, Mexico City's in a five-city list of where I would live. Yeah. Yeah, it's tough.
Starting point is 01:20:30 They don't, I didn't look it up at all, which is probably why I liked it so much. I didn't look up any comedy. I was like, I don't want to know what the scene is. I don't want to know if there's an English scene. I just want to live my life. I did go to, I was taking Spanish classes in a city outside Medellin. With the best teacher own ever had in my life. But, but.
Starting point is 01:20:54 I saw I was over two plus weeks. And so on weekends I was off and I was like, oh, let me go into Medellin. I was like, there's a comedy show. I'm not going to check it out. But it was in Spanish. Yeah. I tried to like, I'm a comedian. Kind of like tickets or, I was like, actually, yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:10 Yeah. Yeah. I can't just stand in the back? Yeah. I don't pay for stand-up. But I was like I did. And it was just cool to see it in Spanish. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:20 And you're like, oh, he's doing a joke about his mom, I think. And I was just learning Spanish, so I didn't really have much of anything. I'd see it in Norway, too. We're like, let me pop into a Norwegian. Yeah, why not? Yeah, and it was like, it was just cool. It's cool to see what the vibe is. Yeah, but not to go up or not to seek out English speaking.
Starting point is 01:21:36 Yeah. Like, that's a different thing. That's a different thing. It's also interesting to watch people bomb in different languages. Really? Icaramba. You're silly goose. Wow, it sounds like a great trip.
Starting point is 01:21:52 It was wonderful. It was wonderful. And I can't wait to do it again. I think the Spice Girls are going on tour, so I might take a look. Oh, yeah. But that one might be, we might get some gals together for the Spice Girls. Is Beckham? Ms. Beckham was doing it?
Starting point is 01:22:03 No, no. She's not doing it. She's like, I'm done with it. Yeah, she's done with it. I mean, it was, okay, I'm going to get some hate from this, but Taylor Swift. I never got to go to the tour. Yeah, I was gone out with Adrian. I was like, let's pick a date and let's just go.
Starting point is 01:22:17 Yeah. It's, my biggest regret is not spending the money to go see her life. Because I've followed her. I've been a fan for a long time. I'm not like, crazy hardcore. But like, I've been a fan since she was doing country. Yeah, I remember her being a country star. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:31 And I was like, oh, I wish I had done what I did for the yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah's with her. There comes a time we're like, well, that's just too much money. I do want to see it, but actually, nah. It's too much money. It's like a grand. It took over the whole city. Like, I was opening for Jeff R. Curie in Vancouver on the last weekend of her tour. and the city
Starting point is 01:22:51 all tailored out. themed hotels, everything. Like we were staying in the lover hotel. She really did put on a... She put on a hell of a show. That's whatever he says. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:02 And so I'm like... Which I would love to see. I really wish. I was like, I'm not even into it, but I was like, I don't want to bring a date. I want to break Adrian. I'm like, let's just go. Appalucci?
Starting point is 01:23:10 Yeah. She's like, I'm not that into it either. I know, but let's go see a great performer. I mean, a great performer who really makes, who can make an arena seem small. Wow. You know? Like that's gonna, that's, so united.
Starting point is 01:23:22 I heard the vibe was just very positive. Yeah, I'm sure it's all that and Beyonce, it's all about like sisterhood and all that shit. If you had to do this over again, or if someone else was going to Mexico City, what advice would you give them? What advice would, I would give them my list. First off, I would share that list.
Starting point is 01:23:42 I would tell them. You already said, don't drink the water. Don't drink the water. But also, you don't, you didn't learn the hard way. No, I didn't learn the hard way, but they say don't drink the water. I would give them the pick one thing a day and then just stay for an extra day.
Starting point is 01:23:57 Is there anything you wish you had done that you didn't do? I think I... Like if you had to do over again, you would have done this. I had to do it over again. Honestly, probably go to the Lucche Libre show, you know, situation.
Starting point is 01:24:15 I'm probably having a little bit more fun, like maybe go to a concert or, I mean, not even a concert. concert, but like a, like a... Mariachi type concert. Or no, like a bar, you know. Go to a bar, you know, I know how to be safe, you know, try and meet people, talk to people, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:34 Maybe it would be a little bit more adventurous in that way. But you were there to happen to yourself. You weren't there to meet anybody. Yeah, DeRosa would be like, let's go to a bar and meet some locals. Yeah. But he's very social. Yeah, I wasn't trying to be social this trip. So I think I would try to be a little bit more social next trip.
Starting point is 01:24:49 Yeah. Yeah. But honestly, I have no regrets with this trip. I left feeling like I had done enough and I was ready to get back, you know, because I was also anxious about money. Oh, yeah. You know, because I was living alone for the first time and responsible for all my bills. You're doing good now, though.
Starting point is 01:25:06 I'm doing okay. Knock on wood. It's going okay. I don't know where wood is, but anyway. But we'll see. Hopefully it lasts. I couldn't afford the medal. Yeah, I think it'll last.
Starting point is 01:25:18 You're always been crazy funny. Oh, thanks, buddy. So it's like, it's nice to see with everybody. You just need to, like, show people what you can do. And it seems like this funny AF did that. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I'm grateful that for reality TV, they made everybody look good. They didn't try and make it.
Starting point is 01:25:33 They didn't try to fuck with it. Thank God, Kevin Hart is a man. Yeah. Yeah, they didn't try. Of a boy. Yeah, they didn't try and do the drama, you know. It was like, no, this is what stand-up is, and this is how hard people work. Yeah, you've been seeing him, like, talking about it now in Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:25:47 I don't ever saw that. He's like, guys, shut up. you talking about. Yeah. He was like, I'm not going to sell anybody out now without saying it like that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:54 He was like, yeah, I booked these guys to do that. They did that. Yeah. Yeah, I was just like he could easily sell people out. And so it sounds like this,
Starting point is 01:26:02 he could easily make it more drama. He goes, no, I'm a comic. I want these guys to shine. Because there was drama. And he just, they decided Bill Dixon,
Starting point is 01:26:10 who was the lead guy on it. He was like, no, no, we're just trying to. We're not doing that. We're doing jokes. We're showing jokes. Okay.
Starting point is 01:26:19 two things I asked people before. Okay. By the way, follower at Caitlin Palufo on Instagram. Instagram. C-A-T-L-I-N. Wow.
Starting point is 01:26:28 P-E-L-U-F-F-O. Incredible, R-E. What a mind in a bucket hat. I-N-T-G-R-M. Wait. Oh, I messed that one up. I-N-S-G-R-M. What are you trying to spell?
Starting point is 01:26:46 Instagram? Yeah. I-N-S-T-A. Okay, that's her name, right. I can't get that one. You're a good actor because I was like, he's having a stroke right now. I was both. I was acting and a stroke.
Starting point is 01:26:58 Yeah. Wow. Easily able to act through strokes. He can do it all, people. Two questions I ask me before they go. Okay. And I'll ask them both. You can decide which one to do.
Starting point is 01:27:06 It's, give me a travel tip. It could be broad or minor. Okay. It could be like, when you're in this town, try to do this. Or it could be, see sports. It could be packed light. We get a lot. And then where do you want to go next?
Starting point is 01:27:22 Or what's calling you? Not next, necessarily. Okay. Travel tip. Pack light. No, I overpack. You never know what you're going to need. Pack too much, okay?
Starting point is 01:27:32 I'm not hiking, okay? I'm literally going to an Airbnb that has a closet, so I plan to fill it. That's actually not a bad one. No, I mean. If you're going for a short time, fill the fuck out of your suitcase and give yourself options later. And bring a little, an extra bag for your, if you bring anything else. If you buy stuff there, then you bring, it's literally, this is my tip.
Starting point is 01:27:53 It's a foldable, cushiony bag, plastic bag that you can check. It rolls up into a little carrier like this. I throw that in my bag. So I have my carry on, and then if I bought a bunch of stuff. Fill it up. Fill it up.
Starting point is 01:28:06 And then you have it, and now you don't have to buy a bag there. That's not bad. I always think like pack lights, you can fill it up with souvenirs, but just bring a little bit. Just have safe to double your space. And I unpack in the apartment.
Starting point is 01:28:18 What? I'm there for five days. Lunatic. I unpack everything. Psycho. No, I like it. And it's almost like you're living there. This is your apartment.
Starting point is 01:28:26 I loved it. Yeah. Yeah. I do that if I stay, even if I stay in a hotel for more than three nights, I'll unpack everything. I mean, that is a better way to live. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:34 Yeah. Do it. Any woman I've ever lived with when they, like, doll out, make it nice, or even when I'm dating them and they want to like, let me fix every. And they go, isn't this nicer? You're like, no, it's nicer.
Starting point is 01:28:45 It's just not worth my time to do it. I'm glad that you did it. Yeah. I was never going to do it. I like first class, but it's not worth the money. Yeah. But, I mean, if I get bumped up, I'm not going to know. That's crazy because you're so tall.
Starting point is 01:28:58 Whatever. Okay. I take fucking 14-hour overnight buses and people puking on the fucking, you know, Peruvia and Andy's windy roads. I'm fucking fine. You don't want to get too comfortable. I'm fine in Delta coach. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:10 You know, some lady serving you water. Yeah. Oh, it's luxurious. Um, and then where do you want to go? where's where's not next not next just like what do you like like I really want to do this thing I want to go to Vietnam I want to go to Hanoi um I want to do great yeah I want to do that uh yeah Asia I've never been to Asia um so if I ever get lucky enough to do a tour in Australia it's it's there's nothing that exudes the word foreign like Asia yeah it's different in every way yeah
Starting point is 01:29:45 it just seems so cool and so excited and the food seems amazing and it's cheap, for what I understand. So if I ever get to go to Australia, I'm literally tacking on two weeks and going to Asia. Dark flights to Bali. Yeah, there we go. The final leg of the eat, pray love.
Starting point is 01:30:02 I gotta fall back in love. There's also, I tell us to, you're probably more developed, and that's when you don't know. When someone flies you out for a gig to Europe, you can fly back whenever you want. You should have to let them know. Oh.
Starting point is 01:30:15 So if they're like, like, like, I said, like, or there's someone else, but like five days in Montrose, Switzerland. Like, we'll fly you back on the sixth day. I'm like, hey, can you actually fly me back from Amsterdam like nine days later? And they're sure, whatever. Really? Yeah. That is good to know.
Starting point is 01:30:29 So you're on your own up until there. But if you do a tour of anywhere, say, I'll get to Vietnam. Don't worry about that. I'm going to go to Ho Chi men to Hanoi or just put Hanover, fly me out of there. And then just, you know, you fill your own time. And if you can get like a gig, you've got two free hotel days. Nice. And then the whole thing's tax.
Starting point is 01:30:48 deductible too but like anyway yeah get there I've only been to southern Vietnam it's so cool yeah and the northern I heard was way more of French really yeah from the from the colonization yeah oopsie poopsie yeah yeah what a bummer but yeah they call it they don't call the Vietnam War what do they call it they call it the American War got our asses yeah they're like we just got finished with the war with France they left two years later or less America comes in like oh sweet you guys are weak we'll take over Yeah. It's not the Vietnam way.

Then it'll do a little thing where you, like, cut a little clip on your own and put it on your stories or your reels yourself, a part you like, you know, just like a 20-second part. Just fucking screen record it.

Starting point is 01:32:32 Okay. Bye. Thank you. That's the episode, everybody. Thank you very much for tuning in. Next week I got Yoshio Biashi or Luke Heggy. Those are going to be the next two weeks, I think. one on Afghanistan, one on biking through New Zealand.
Starting point is 01:32:52 Lukaghi biking through New Zealand. That one we did on location in Melbourne, in front of a mural of a local Melbourne. They had a big mural to them. We recorded the podcast out in this tree right in front of it. I like to have fun. Anyway, today's episode is edited by Your Mom's House Network. It's produced by, no, it's produced by your mom's south network, edited by Alan Caffee, and shot expertly by Jorge Malvedano.
Starting point is 01:33:22 What's your last name? You don't say it? That's pretty smart. Some guy named Jorge, he's an escapee from Nicaragua. Jorge, maybe you interview me about my Nicaragua trip. You can do that. Yeah, it's the shortest. Well, you tell me the story.
Starting point is 01:33:37 Okay, yeah. When I get no ads on an episode, and I don't have to reach an hour. Yeah, okay. Okay. Thanks for the help, Jorge. All these episodes you see shot here are going to be shot by Jorge. He's a small Nicaraguan dog. He put on a child costume to get in. He used the Biden lax immigration policies to get in here.
Starting point is 01:34:02 And then Trump's been on lookout for him ever since. And that's why we're at the RU Garbage Studios. Come find us there, ice. Everybody, go see Caitlin Palifo Special. Peshuto Rose. Legitimately, she's a great, funny comic, and you guys will love her. She's just like a, she does comedy like a man. When do they have trans comics? Like the real trans comedy is about the comedy and not about the gender of the, not what's between the dick of the person who's on stage.
Starting point is 01:34:35 Because when you think about it, that's got nothing to do with it. We can move the mic stand up and down. So what's boy or girl got to do with it? But the style of a man in comedy or the style of a one, or the style of a one, moment in comedy. Those are kind of different things. Caitlin Palufo is a transcomic. Anyway, go see Pursuita rise right now. Tell her she's your favorite transcomic. And she's the real freedom of stand up. One of those things.

Starting point is 01:35:33 I get it. It's a tough, you know, 2999 for commitment for seven hours of comedy is a lot, even though that's a price of one movie. So start with one episode. Start with the, let's see. Start with the, let's see. Start with the Big J. O'Cerson episode, episode seven. Or episode six with Shane Gillis. You all like Shane Gillis. Or episode five with me and Norman.
Starting point is 01:35:56 That's a good one too, actually. Four? Anyway, the point is they're all available at R.Siebore.com. Guys, go out and visit a country by yourself. Do what Caitlin did. Take a risk. Go out alone. She's a fucking woman.
Starting point is 01:36:09 You know, go out and take a chance and go see something. Most places are pretty safe. I was on Harlowellie's podcast. I was about what's dangerous. I was in while I was traveling to Latin America. I was like, dude, the reality is not none really. It's not clickable. That's not click-based stuff, but really not much.
Starting point is 01:36:26 So it's all pretty safe out there. Go out, you can find some danger if you want, you know, but that's not what I'm looking for. Sabatical, Tommy Sabatical, that's what he's looking for, but that's for him. You and I, we're going to take safe trips. Mexico City. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yes.
Starting point is 01:36:42 What a fine time. All right, guys, adios. No, nobody says adios. That's only fucking Argentina says that shit. You know why? It means with God, adios. Instead, as a lo, ego.
