What's up you'll hear it fans? This is Caleb Kirby stepping in for Adam Manus. He's on vacation. I know, I know. But don't worry, we have a ton of fresh music that we're going to bring for you for June 2026. Let's get straight into it. Check it out. Up first is Jeff Goldblum in the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. Yeah, you heard it. We're going to talk more about that name right after I play this track. Check it out. Every time we say goodbye. Look at him. Beautiful. how can you not like this guy? I die a little. Every time we say goodbye. I wonder why

the god's a little. Why the gods above me who must be in the know think so little of me. On the piano. They allow you to go. There's such an air of spring about it. I can hear somewhere begin to sing about it.

There's no love song fine, but how strange the change from major to mind. Every time... Man can sing. He can sing. We say goodbye. Snap, here he goes. The key change.

Man. Is crooning bad? Are we crooners now? All right, so that's Jeff Goldbrum in the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. From what I can tell, the name of that is based on someone from a person

that he used to know, is not a musician, not an actor. the person that I used to know that lived to be over 100, and he just decided to name the orchestra after her. So that's not a person in the band. But you know what? I'm not going to lie. I like that a lot more than I was expecting to like it. And it's a whole album of it called Nightblooms.

Check it out now. It just dropped. And you're going to, yeah, I mean, I'd be lying if I thought I was going to be letting people know about the Jeff Goldblum jazz album today. But look at me now. I got to say I've solidly back it. Okay. Next up is straight from the contemporary jazz scene with Mark Giuliana, Keon Harold, hometown hero of St. Louis, and Sam Barsh. It's called Straight 08.

I believe it's just an 808 synthesizer, drums, trumpet. And I think a couple other keyboards in here from Sam Barsh. Let's check out this first track, Fergamette, Park. Man, that's cool. Yeah, I mean, like Marjuliana is always involved in something like this. If you know him from beat, his music, beat music, it just never ends with this guy and being extremely creative. Sam Barsh and Keon Harrell as well are just like two masterful musicians. I mean, I'm almost getting like a dub vibe or something from that, like a reggae dub vibe, but it's like it definitely goes beyond that. The album is Straight 08. And I believe it's on the record label Law Reserve Records.

You can get it now. Really, really cool. Yeah, I'm impressed. Okay, up next is this newest album from Boards of Canada, Inferno. Now, this album has been highly anticipated over the years. It's, I don't think they've come up with an album for like 10 years or something. Crazy. Amongst the jazz nerds that I know, I mean, like, yeah.

It's Apex Twin Adjacent. Always kind of like dark, scinthy, you know, landscapes. Very analogy. But this one has got a whole new thing to it. Let's get right into it. This track is called Hydrogen, Helium, Lithuan, Leviathan. Check it out. Yeah, just otherworldly textures.

Absolutely alien. I hate to cut that short. It really doesn't get better than that. Boards of Canada, Inferno. You've got to check it out. Out now. Out everywhere. Such a gift that we got that from them.

And yeah, please, please get in there. It's, I mean, how many tracks are in here? There's 18 tracks. 18 tracks. So, yeah, definitely get that in there and check it out. And the next time you got some free time. And I suggest listening to the whole thing in its entirety just straight through. Because it basically sounds like a movie.

It's like a, it's got all this cinematic build. You don't want to miss like the concept from beginning to end. So check that. out. Okay, up next is Lakeisha Benjamin's newest album, We Dream, with this newest track called Magenta. If you don't know Lakeisha Benjamin, she's played with some pretty small artists like Missy Elliott and Alicia Keys or, you know, who cares. This track features Christian Scott, Chief Adjua, and it was released on artwork records. So check it out. This one's called Magenta. Like the second coming of Kinnegarre or something.

Dude, it's not over. That's Jerome Jennings on the drums. I hate to turn all these down. Man. Lakeisha Benjamin. Can't get enough. You're going to have to check that out. You've got to check that out.

That is so, so, so good. So good. All right. Up next is an incredible trio, Supergroup. I would definitely say a supergroup. We got Marcus Gilmore, Joe Martin, and Mark Turner in the Phoenix Trio.

This group collabs on writing all the music. So in this album, which is called Tomorrow is Today, it's going to be a mixture of compositions from the different artists in the group. So you're going to get a song from Mark, you're going to get a song from Markis, you're going to get a song from Joe. This tune we're going to play now is called 1946, and it's Mark Turner's tune. Check it out. Incredible.

There's something so fearless about Mark Turner. especially paired with great musicians like Marcus Gilmore and Joe Martin. I mean, like, the guy, like, it just feels open, it feels airy. You know, it's always these, like, tunes that, like, on the surface level sounds so simple, and then it just gets into some incredible musical tapestry-like music. I mean, like, Mark Turner and these guys, I think, played with Kurt Rosenwinkel, like, mid-2000s, and, like, you can imagine, like, the power behind Kurt Rosenwinkel. this group, it's just incredible. Anyway, it's called The Phoenix Trio. Check it out, just out.

Tomorrow is today, you're going to definitely want to check that out. Up next is the great Fred Hirsch, friend of open studio with the late Mick Goodgric. And I believe they recorded this album some years ago, and I found a little clip of Fred explaining how this came to be far better than I ever could. So we're going to watch that real quick. Check this out. In the 1980s, I was teaching in Boston at New England Conservatory and played some pickup gigs. in various bands that Nick Goodrick was in, and I always loved playing with him. Guitar and piano can be a tricky thing,

but it was always so easy to play with them. And I had a little studio here in New York in this very room with this piano, and I invited him down to do a dual album. We spent an afternoon. We recorded on the very first digital two-track machine, live mix, Just play some things we liked and improvised. I really liked it, but nothing really happened with it.

And then Mick passed away, and his executor, David Lee, got in touch with me, and he said, you know, Mick always liked that album. Could you listen to it again? And so I listened to it. And I said, wow, this is really nice. And I made a quick sequence of about 40 minutes of music. And I got back to David. I said, yeah, I like it.

but I need to check with Manfred Eicher at ECM, make sure that he's cool with me releasing it. Sends it to him and Manfred said, oh, this is great, we want to put it out. Mick is one of my favorite guitarists. So good to hear Fred talk. The album is called Feebles, Fables, and Ferns. That's also the title track written by Mick.

Friend of Open Studio Emma Cohen has come out with another album called Universal Truth. You're definitely one going to check this out. It's so cool. We're gonna get right into it. Here's the first track, Budo. Such a cool range. And that's his main trio right now. That's Joe Farnsworth on the drums. Yasushi Nakamura on the bass. Of course, I was recorded at the incredible Sear sound. Man, that just sounds so good. I can't wait to get home and listen to that whole album.
