Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, Peter. Hey, Adam. What do you know about writing some lyrics? You know, I've been known to be a, I've been called a word smith every now and then to apply them to some beautiful melodies. I'm about to find out about that. Okay. I'm Adam Manus. And I'm Peter Martin.
Starting point is 00:00:29 And you're listening to the You'll Hear Podcast. Daily music advice coming at you. Coming at you today, sponsored by Open Studio. Go to Open Studiojadiojazz.com for, oh, yeah. Yeah, so we got a speak pipe about lyrics. Now, I know you don't write a lot of words to your songs. You're mostly just... Why are you putting your hand up in my face as you say that?
Starting point is 00:00:49 You know, why is it like... Sorry, I mean, but it's true. You're not like... I don't want to say you're not a complete musician. Well, no, I mean... But you're more of a one-trick pony. Oh, wow, wow. See?
Starting point is 00:01:00 And you also knew that I was not that interested in doing this episode yet we're doing it. But that's okay. It's all right. I'm going to get beyond that. All right. Here's a... So you kind of got double negativity going towards me. But that's okay.
Starting point is 00:01:10 It's okay. I can take it. I can take it. I'm a big boy. All right, we'll see. We got a speak pipe from Adam. Nice. Like that name.
Starting point is 00:01:16 Oh, this is all stacked in your favorite. What's up, Peter and Adam? My name is Adam, and I'm a saxophonist from South Florida. And I discovered your podcast about a month ago, and I just got totally addicted to it. You guys give some awesome advice. Keep up the good work. You're killing it. So I'm an instrumentalist, specifically as saxphonist, and I've been getting into the
Starting point is 00:01:36 composing grind lately. And I'm trying to write more tunes with lyrics in them, such as a song. as ballads that are more romantic and sad. But I don't know where to start, and I don't know how I can even try to start practicing, getting better with writing lyrics. And I'm asking, since both of you guys are pianists, you guys are instrumentalists,
Starting point is 00:02:01 have you ever been in a scenario where you've written lyrics for your original tunes? And if you have, do you guys have any advice? Thanks again. Oh, okay. I got this one for sure, man. Yeah, I lost interest. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:02:18 No, I mean, this is right. Let's talk about it. I'm open. Yeah, I mean, you know, so I do write a lot of lyrics from my band, the 442s, and I've written songs. The who? The who? Never heard of them.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Come on. A couple of hours out. Man, you're a little salty today with this one, aren't you? Well, I mean, we're not going to talk about what, okay, the listeners, I'm not going to go into the whole thing, but right before the episode, well, and now I have to go through the whole thing. No, you know what? No, I'm not going to go into the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:02:42 to because I see you over there smiling and snickering and being so happy but that's not fair to the listeners like we kind of you know I mean we resolved what we were getting into before this episode but did we really resolve it I feel like there's still some tension in there you can always do this man like we start one of these things and especially if it's anything geared towards what I want to do and then all of a sudden you get super dark about it that's not true most most this whole YouTube podcast thing has started to really be focused around you more than anything ever since you got your 100,000 view, YouTube. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no, no, but it's like we're trying to talk about stuff that we both, it's not about us, it's about the listener. So we're trying to talk about stuff that's of interest to the listener. Has anybody else ever asked about lyrics before? Yes, but you just never let them on because you, it's just, if it's not in your, like, super
Starting point is 00:03:33 specific wheelhouse, then it's not worth doing. Oh, the specific real house that led to 100,000 downloads over a million downloads. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, that wheelhouse? I mean, I don't even want to do this daily podcast anymore if this is how it's going to be. Really? If it's going to be the Peter Martin show, then why are we even here? Well, I'm pretty sure.
Starting point is 00:03:51 I don't even know. Does it, would even anybody know who Adam Manus was? You know what? No, I'm honestly. Of course, the 442s. Oh, Mr. Red Hat, Mr. Kito. Actually. I'm sick of this, dude.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Okay. No. You know what? I'm sick of this shit and I'm out of here. Alex. You know what? That's fine. I can do this on my.
Starting point is 00:04:10 No, you need to stay Alex. I can do this on my own. all right um you know what though actually no Alex you know what I'm out of here too for the last time you'll hear it
