Your Favorite Thing with Wells & Brandi - LaGuardia Aliens, Nepo Babies & a Neurodivergent Raccoon

Episode Date: August 12, 2026

Brandi has a wild conspiracy about the LaGuardia airport after spending all day there watching flights get grounded under clear blue skies. The only explanation? Aliens. Meanwhile, Wells chec...ks in from a 70mm IMAX screening of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Hot take alert... Tom Holland the weak link. From there it's a full favorite-things run: a Netflix documentary that goes somewhere nobody saw coming, a Hulu thriller you can't look away from, a children's cartoon about a neurodivergent raccoon, and Wells' new life plan to become Ian Fleming and retire to a taco stand on an island with Matt. How wholesome.FAVORITE THINGS:The OdysseyHouse of the Dragon Season Finale (HBO Max)Furious (Hulu)A Toxic Love Story (Netflix)The Idaho Murders (Netflix)Obsession (rental, Apple TV)Carl the Collector (PBS Kids)Onyx Storm (The Fourth Wing Series) by Rebecca YarrosThe Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky ChambersThe NotebookThanks for tuning in, YFTers. Starting point is 00:00:00 This podcast is brought to you by Podcast Nation. Okay dokey dokey. What's up? My Ftios. It's your old pow wells. What's going on? It's hot out. I feel like summer is getting worse.
Starting point is 00:00:17 Lots to talk about, though. House of Dragons. Over. Bummed, but also fun. And I need to give you guys an update about the toxic love story because I don't watch half the movie and then I watched it and then everything changed
Starting point is 00:00:31 and so we need to talk about that a little bit later. But first, let's call the Branzino. It's time to come. It is time. It always looks dark in Brandy's room.
Starting point is 00:00:47 It always looks like it's nighttime when we film. I'm sitting by a window. I know. It's dark in there. I know. It's at the basement.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Yeah, yeah, yeah. You are in the basement. You're like the stranger things, kids. Yeah, exactly. They've, I'm just down here for, I don't even know how much longer. A couple more weeks. You just live there now. I live here now.
Starting point is 00:01:06 No, apparently. Is that true? Yeah, she's still here. What's she doing there? Are she working on something? I don't think. I think she's just like having some chill time. She just got off tour.
Starting point is 00:01:16 She was on tour with Alex Warren. Uh-huh. And she decided to come to Nashville for some rest and relaxation. A little R&R? Yeah, a little R&R. Arner. That's how old. That's right.
Starting point is 00:01:29 R&R is how Australians say, oh, no. They do. Although I've tried that on Matt, and he does not find it funny. Really? Yeah. He's like, that's not what I sound like. I'm like, it is. It kind of is, though.
Starting point is 00:01:41 It totally is. Yeah. Are you familiar with the Stella Lafferty? Of course. Or Stella Lefty? That's her name. Yeah, Stella Lefty. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:51 I actually... On a train back to Boston, and we jump with the gun. I have a remix of it. Really? Yeah, I'm trying to get the... the freaking music business gods to let me release it, but Lord knows that takes at least a year. I mean, if we're being fair,
Starting point is 00:02:07 I mean, it's a blatant rip-off of stick season. It's a, don't get me wrong. People are saying that. Yeah, I mean, it's interpolation for sure. It's a great song, though, but it is like, it is very much. And what's funny is that I feel like it's becoming popular in the same way that stick season became popular, which was they just wrote a verse on TikTok,
Starting point is 00:02:27 and then it went crazy. And then they're like, okay, I guess we got to write a song now. Yeah. I mean, that's the world we live in now. Have you seen all this stuff that she's a nepo baby? Yeah, but like we've talked about this. Who isn't anymore? Well, okay, so I had an argument about this.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Not that I really care, but like so her dad, I guess, like, is a tech guy who like owned Groupon or something. Nepotism means that your business is helping your child, right? I don't think. Yeah. That's, I mean, that's what, like, you're going into the failing business. The argument here is that her, because her dad is rich, right, he's been able to pay for her to have access to whatever she needs to get her music to be successful, which is probably true. I mean, just, I don't know how anyone, I don't know how anyone makes it in any field anymore without having money first.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Like, it takes money to make money. And that's just the facts. For sure. But, okay, so I just looked it up. Nepotism is the unfair practice where people, in. power use their authority to give jobs, promotions, or special advantages to family members, ignoring whether other people are more qualified or skilled. But here's the thing, though, he doesn't own, like, BMI. He owns Groupon, so he can't give her a job to, like, become a,
Starting point is 00:03:45 do you know what I'm saying? Like, just because you're rich, that's not depotism. That's based being privileged, which are two different things. Yeah. I mean, people could call me that easily, too. It's like, I don't really give a shit. I think the music business is what I know. I feel like this is probably true across a lot of other different fields of work, but it's like it's not what you know, it's who you know, and that's just true. And in music, like, you kind of have to use those connections to get places. Otherwise, you're never going to make it.
Starting point is 00:04:16 And I mean, Taylor Swift did this and no one's shitting on her. Her dad literally bought her career. And he doesn't have a music label either. Well, he bought one. but he didn't have one. He had a trucking company, made a bunch of money on his trucking company, and then was able to put that money into her career.
Starting point is 00:04:31 He bought the label that signed her or invested in the label that signed her or whatever it was, bought a bunch of her first records, and that's why Taylor had a leg up in the beginning. And everybody does it in different ways that's successful. And I mean, yeah, I just feel like haters are going to hate. Yeah, I don't know. I just think that, like, we need to distinguish between nepotism and privileged.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Like, those two things are. things are different, I think. Yeah. I mean, the thing is, like, Stella's got a great voice. She does. And she's very cute, too. Like. Yeah, she's super cute.
Starting point is 00:05:02 She's got a very cool, like raspy, unique voice, though. Yeah. She doesn't, to me, like, I don't know where she's from. But, like, she doesn't, she screams like she's from, like, northeast. She's, like, in this southern vein. She is, but I don't really get that. I don't think Boston sounds country. I don't think so either, but it's like a country song, I feel like.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Well, she's, yeah, she's like in the country. I saw her with the ACMs. She's definitely like in the country world, which I love that song. I think she's so talented. I didn't really understand the country angle of it all. Yeah. But I don't know. Country these days, you know.
Starting point is 00:05:37 What is it? What is it exactly? I don't know. There's a lot of pop crossover these days in country. There's a lot of pop crossover. Yeah. Anyway, so you're still in the basement. Still in the basement?
Starting point is 00:05:49 But I wasn't in the basement until one a. last night I was in the fucking LaGuardia airport for hours upon hours upon hours yesterday. I'm not a big fan of LaGuardia. Here's the thing. Here's the thing. I love LaGuardia. Oh, you do? Like it better than JFK?
Starting point is 00:06:08 It's, oh, way fucking better. Okay. That's every time, I don't go to JFK often, but when I do, like, the chaos gives me so much. It has my nervous system through the fucking roof at JFK. Yeah. Like, it is just so. stressful that I avoided it at all cost. LaGuardia, way smaller, brand fucking new.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Everything's new in LaGuardia. It's so fucking nice. It's so easy to navigate. I can like get dropped off and get to my gate in 15 minutes. Like it's so easy. My one complaint about LaGuardia though, the food is just not it. Like they don't have good food options. There's not many healthy options.
Starting point is 00:06:47 As a gluten-free girly right now, like there aren't a whole lot of gluten-free options. Like that's my biggest. problem with LaGuardia is if you're stuck there all day, like your options are Shake Shack, which is bomb, but not healthy. Shake Shack or like a bunch of places, like, a bunch of places, like,
Starting point is 00:07:05 I don't even know what they are. Like, they're not even like known places. It's just like a smoothie joint and then a pizza joint next door, but the smoothie joint sells the pizza and the pizza sells the smoothies and you're like, what is this, you know? But here, let me just tell you about my travel day yesterday, okay? The older I get more, I just become
Starting point is 00:07:20 a conspiracy theorist. When I tell you, the airports were absolutely insane yesterday. Matt flew from L.A. to Nashville yesterday. I flew from LaGuardia to Nashville. And my flight was supposed to take off at 4 p.m. We did not take off until 10.45 p.m. from LaGuardia. When I showed up at the airport, you would have thought that there was either fucking like, like a hurricane outside or a bomb threat in the airport.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Like, it was chaos. Sunny skies. No bad weather. like I was just confused. I'm like, what is happening? Every single gate had lines all the way down the hallway of people just standing in line waiting to talk to a gate agent. And when I showed up, I literally went to one of the lines and I was like, what are you guys waiting for? I said, why are you guys in line?
Starting point is 00:08:07 The lady literally looked at me and said, I have no idea. I said, what do you mean? She goes, I literally don't know why I'm in line. She was like, I was on a plane. They de-planeed us, didn't tell us anything. And everyone just started lining up at the desk. So I did too. She was like, because I don't know what else to do.
Starting point is 00:08:22 She was like, but I don't know why we're here. So all these people started making the line, literally having no idea what they're in line for because no one's telling them anything. You guys, and sunny skies. And I am such a nerd. I have like the radar app on my phone for weather because I watch it for the horses. No bad weather anywhere. Like one tiny little store, maybe somewhere over Chicago, but like no biggie.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Like nothing more abnormal than a typical summer day. And the airports across the country were in disarray. All the flights were going to. and canceled. When I landed in Nashville, it was one in the morning. So many fucking people in the Nashville airport on a Monday night. Flight still waiting to take off. I don't know what was happening. Something was happening. The aliens were up to something. Maybe the aliens were like had the skies cleared for some reason. I don't know. But I'm telling you it was not weather and something crazy was going on yesterday. This song does not fit this situation.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Yes, it does. But then I'll also give you one of these. I'm telling you. I'm telling you. The one redeeming arc yesterday was there is a very nice Centurion lounge in the LaGuardia airport. And your girl has the MX Platinum. I've sat in a lot of shitty airline lounges. This one had fantastic food. I could not believe it.
Starting point is 00:09:43 They were so accommodating to my gluten preference. My no gluten preference. They had the chef come speak to me and almost everything on the table. like on the table that was like was an option. It was gluten free. Like they used tamari instead of soy sauce. Like it was so great. And I just had a great experience.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Amazing. Well. Which is very rare in a lounge. I do. Yeah. The Centurion's nice in LAX and at JFK as well. I haven't been in either one of those. Really?
Starting point is 00:10:13 Yeah. I'm usually not in an airport long enough to need to go to the lounge, you know? Fair enough. Fair enough. Thank God. But like on the rare occasion that there's. an alien patrol in the skies and they ground all the planes and I'm stuck in LaGordia all day. Thank God for the centurion.
Starting point is 00:10:29 It's definitely aliens, I think, was a problem with that. I think so too. Yeah. Like, what else could it be? Gotta be the aliens. Gotta. All right. Well, I'm glad you made it home, I guess.
Starting point is 00:10:37 I woke up 30 minutes ago. I'm so fucking tired. Are you? Yeah. You know, I was in Montau. I was in the Hamptons. Well, everyone's got to be somewhere. Everyone's got to be somewhere.
Starting point is 00:10:45 God, it is just so great there. I know. I love the Hamptons. It is. It is. Yeah, it's so great. I love it, too. I know. The Cape Hamptons, the best.
Starting point is 00:10:54 Beautiful. You wish to the show? Yeah. I think it's you. I think it's you. Bros and hose. You're listening to Your of Everything podcast with. Wells and Brandy.
Starting point is 00:11:06 I think everyone at this point knows how obsessed I am with Skims. Today I actually laid by the pool on my Skims beach towel. And now here I am sitting in my Skims, Cotton Jersey Loose Short. And I'm not even kidding. Truly, it's the one pair of shorts I packed on this trip because I wear them constantly. Coffee run, I pull out my skim shorts. Chilling at the house, skim shorts. Podcast with Wells, skim shorts.
Starting point is 00:11:30 Fly home to National Monday, skim shorts. Like, truly, they're so comfortable, and they're just my go-to right now. I talk about skims a lot. I love their underwear, and I'm really loving their cotton collections that they've got for loungeware. If you guys haven't checked it out, you really, really need to. I'm obsessed with these. It's the cotton jersey loose short. I have them in black.
Starting point is 00:11:50 I need to buy them in every other color because I wear them so much. They are so soft, so breathable. And seriously, they're just the perfect short, no matter what you're doing, especially in the summer heat. One of my other favorite products is the scoop bra. They have it in a ton of different fabrics. The newest one I've gotten is the everyday cotton scoop bra. It's just so comfortable.
Starting point is 00:12:10 I literally have this bra in every color. It works under every top that I wear. And it gives you just enough support while still being comfortable. I really am truly obsessed. Skims just does it right. Shop, Skims, Cotton, and all of my favorite pieces at Skim com after you place your order, just be sure to let them know that we sent you and select podcast in the survey and then select our show, YFT, in the drop down menu that follows.
Starting point is 00:12:36 Do it. All right, guys, I've been trying to be healthier these days. I've been working out a lot and I've also been trying to eat better. And I'm so I've gone to hungry root. Have you heard about hungry root brandy? Totally have. Love it. All right.
Starting point is 00:12:50 So like at this point, I generally don't think about grocery shopping or meal planning in more, it just happens. They've got over 50,000 chef crafted recipes and over a thousand grocery items. The variety never gets old. Many recipes are ready in just 15 minutes and there's always something new to try. Hungry Root screens out over 200 additives like high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and preservatives and all their meat and seafood is super high quality with no hormones or antibiotics. Hungry Roots quality standard doesn't slip and you know exactly. what to expect. It's like meal kits and grocery all in one because I can't just do one. Like meal kits are hard because I'm like, well, sometimes I just want a banana. So then I have to go to the
Starting point is 00:13:34 grocery store and just get a bit of this way you get both. Like you can get recipes for actual meals. But then if you're the kind of person like me that just likes a banana and some peanut butter, you can get those things too. It really is just the best of both. You guys are going to love hungry root as much as we do. For a limited time, you can get 40% off your first order. plus get a free item in every box for life. Go to HungryRoot.com slash YFT and use code YFT. All right, guys, we've all had those nights. The ones where you laugh until the sun comes up
Starting point is 00:14:04 where conversations go places that they've never gone before and you walk away feeling closer to the people around you than you have in years. That's psilocybin, baby. It doesn't just open doors in your mind. It opens them between people. This episode is brought to you by Schedule 35, the most trusted name in psilocybin products.
Starting point is 00:14:20 Whether you're microdosing for focus and clarity or taking a full recreational dose to reconnect with life, Schedule 35 makes every experience intentional, consistent, and precisely dose. These aren't party drugs, their connection tools for your mind, your creativity, your relationship, and honestly, maybe probably your soul. I use them mainly in microdosing. If you want, go to Schedule35.com and use code YFT for 15% off your first order.
Starting point is 00:14:57 That's Schedule 35.com code YFT for 15% off. I absolutely love Schedule 35 and you will too. Is it be any weather in L.A.? My hair's too long, I'm getting a haircut later today and I'm tired of it. All right. Because I'm pretty sure the entire world is on fire right now. Absolutely. Way too hot.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Gross, hot, but it is what it is. Guess who went to City Walk yesterday? Oh, really? Saw a little film, a tiny little indie film called The Odyssey. Have you seen The Odyssey? No, I want to go this week, but I literally just asked the people I was staying with over the weekend if they'd seen it, and they were freaking out about this. That was the best movie they've seen in years. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Okay. What are your thoughts? I loved it. It's huge. It's epic. And it's really beautiful, obviously. Like you would think that Christopher Nolan's shooting on IMAX with like every big star in the world. It would be absolutely gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:15:56 And it was. I have a lot of thoughts though. Okay. I want the thoughts, but I mean, I know the story. I won't. I'm not going to spoil it too much because I want to go see it. I'm just going to tell you who I think was good and who was bad, what it felt like to me. Like, yeah, I won't go into like the specifics of everything.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Yeah. Okay. One to me, it felt very theatrical and like like stage. performance felt like I was watching on Broadway these people like do a Greek tragedy which is what they're doing effectively right it just felt that way and I and I like that I really like that part I think that John Leguizamo is the best person in this film and it's like not even close wow and if you think about a John Legu Zamo has gotten to do really cool projects I mean he was in Boslerman's Romeo and Juliet
Starting point is 00:16:49 as like such a one of my faves and he's so good in that such a perfect casting for that movie and then for this same thing
Starting point is 00:16:56 he's not the main character but he's a big part of the thing and he is just like acting circles around everybody he's so good I will say that I think that the part
Starting point is 00:17:05 he has has a lot of meat on the bone for him to like be the best but I was just like blown away not someone who I was going there being like
Starting point is 00:17:14 he's going to be the best you know like I was thinking like it's going to be Matt Damon right the other person who I think does an absolutely fantastic job.
Starting point is 00:17:20 I'm not surprised by, but like such good acting, Robert Pattinson. Really? He's, I mean, like, listen, I want you to go see it. Then you can say what you want to say, but like I thought he's such a good bad guy. Like, it's just so good. He's fantastic. I really liked Robert Pattinson. I think that Matt Damon is really, really good for the amount of work that he has to do in
Starting point is 00:17:45 this thing, right? Like, yeah. I mean, it's like Tom Hanging. and castaway. Like, it's him the entire time. That's crazy. Not easy filming. They're at sea a lot with, like, waves going crazy,
Starting point is 00:17:57 and they're fighting monsters and all this stuff. He's great. Like, I don't know how many people could do what he was able to do with the part. Like, I was really impressed. Zendaya was great. She's not on it for so much, but when she is, she's fantastic. I'll tell you who my- Tom Holland.
Starting point is 00:18:11 I'll tell you who my weak link was. Tom Holland. No. And I don't know if, because, we've seen him be funny in Spider-Man for so long that when you take away his comedy, it falls flat. Loved him in the crowded room, though.
Starting point is 00:18:28 That was far from comedy. He's one of my favorite actors right now. Like, I think he's fantastic. To me, I don't know if it was because he was just like getting circles acted around him by Anne Hathaway and John Leguizamo that you're like, this is, and also Robert Pattinson.
Starting point is 00:18:45 They have a lot of scenes together. But he was the one who I was like, Like, I kind of fell flat for me. Interesting. One of my only complaints is, they all did American accents. And I was like, I know that Anne Hathaway can do a British accent. Mm-hmm. I'm pretty sure Matt Damon can probably do one too.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Tom Holland is British. Robert Pattinson is British. Why is everyone doing American? I feel like it should be, it should be British sounding. Yeah. But it wasn't. It was, it's very American sounding, which kind of threw me out of it a little bit. Anyways, it's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:19:16 It's long. As flocked though, dude, I... Did you have to get up and go to the bathroom? Yes, one time. Oh, so did Sarah. That's the worst. It's the worst. If they're going to have a movie be that long,
Starting point is 00:19:26 I feel like there should be a 10-minute intermission. A little intermish? For bathrooms, so you don't know anything. I think that's a good idea, a little mish. I think they need it. Yeah, look, you could check your phone for a second, just make sure everything's okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Yeah. Yeah, I agree with the intermish, uh, act one, act two. Here's my other thing. And I said this, I think after I went and saw Project Hell Mary. These movies are way to, too fucking loud. I can't tell you. And like, here's what's crazy is that like I was.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Or are you old? No, it's not. This is my argument with it. I have terrible hearing because I live so much of my life in cans, right? Like doing radio like in a headphone mix that I can't hear shit. Sarah talks to me and I'm like, I can't hear. I don't know what the fuck you're. I can't hear anything.
Starting point is 00:20:10 So I'm already deaf and I'm in there and I'm plugging my ears. I'm like, Jesus Christ, dude. Why does everything have to absolutely blow me? out of the water. My thing is this. Obviously, it's a big scene in like this battle or whatever and so it's loud or whatnot. But you can convey a lot of drama through just the base, which doesn't fuck your ears up. You just feel it in your body. You know? Anyways, when you go, and maybe it was just like a movie theater thing where they just had it cranked up like a little bit too much, but I feel like they're just way too much. Did you see it in the like super special IMAX?
Starting point is 00:20:42 Yeah, it's 70mm. We saw it. That one. Yeah. Is the sound any different in there or just the screen. The screen is really big. I don't know. Open the sound. It was great. But here's my hot take. Like, I think everyone should go see it. And I also love the fact that, like, Christopher Nolan is able to make movies like this in a world in which, like, everyone is, like, penny pinching for entertainment's sake.
Starting point is 00:21:01 And, like, we only do sequels now or, like, you have to have some sort of, like, brand recognition. So I'm glad that he was able to make it. But here's my hot take. Not my favorite Christopher Nolan movie. I mean, listen, I wouldn't expect it to be my
Starting point is 00:21:17 favorite Christopher Nolan movie, I don't think. Like, I, don't get me wrong. It's a beautiful story. Like, it's not that, but I just, it's not the type of movie I think would be like my absolute favorite Christopher Nolan movie, you know? Yeah. What is your favorite Christopher Nolan movie? I think the Dark Night is a fucking perfect film, but I also love Interstellar.
Starting point is 00:21:38 I know. So like, like, those are two movies that I can turn on at any time and be like, I'm going to watch this and go to bed. Yeah. The Odyssey. I don't know if I'll ever watch it again It's so long. It's so it's actually I probably will
Starting point is 00:21:51 But anyways, it's great. You should go see it. I'm annoyed with like the media coverage of like the Especially like the right being like outraged That Elliott page A transgender person was in this playing Achilles. What the fuck are you to? He's not playing Achilles.
Starting point is 00:22:12 It's like you're lying. Like that's not what the part is. it's not even close to like being Achilles. Also, the parts are pretty small. Like, it's impactful. It is important to the storyline. But like, that annoyed me. It was like, you guys made this whole thing up to like draw up anger about something
Starting point is 00:22:30 that didn't exist. I can't believe that. But in the same vein, very, very political. It's very interesting. When you start thinking about it, like, it's all about Zeus's law, which Zeus's law is the golden rule, by the way. Treat others as you'd like to be treated. But also Zeus's law is.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Anytime a stranger comes into your house, you have to welcome them and feed them and wash their feet and all this stuff. Kind of very like Jesus-esque, if I'm being honest. So it's a very interesting thing of like what ends up happening. The whole story is about kind of the fall of man going against Zeus's law. There's a little bit of that with like immigration situations that we're dealing with and not fighting honorably. You know, the Trojan horse thing is that's a trick. Right. They're honoring Athena by giving them this horse, but it's tricking the gods.
Starting point is 00:23:21 And so, like, that's kind of the whole thing with Odysseus is that he's the one who's breaking all these laws and at what cost. Anyways, a lot to think about, really enjoyed it. Yeah. Go check it out. Interesting. Yeah. Great. Maybe I can go see that this week.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Yeah, go see it. I mean, you can also wait a couple weeks for it to cool down and then go see it, you know? Yeah. I want to see it in the 70 millimeter I max. Yeah. You know, so before they take it out, I guess. The next one I want to see is the new, speaking of Tom Holland, the new Spider-Man, which apparently is breaking, it just broke the record of Odyssey.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Oh, wow. Yeah, it's made more than like Avatar did, which is, I guess, the biggest movie of, yeah. That's wild. So Tom Holland's doing great. He really is. He is really doing it. Like, come on. I mean, he's like punching above his weight class with his girlfriend or his wife.
Starting point is 00:24:08 They're engaged. Wife? Whatever. I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. He gets to be Spider-Man. and he gets to be
Starting point is 00:24:15 I forget it is. Nolan film. I forget it. Yeah. God bless him. Speaking of antiquated old stories, did you watch
Starting point is 00:24:25 the finale of House of Dragon? No, I haven't yet because I was in the fucking LaCordia airport all day yesterday. If you were there all day, why didn't you just download it to your computer? Because Matt would actually, he just fucking caught up to me last week.
Starting point is 00:24:37 If I watched that finale without him, I will be in so much trouble. Oh my God, there's so much we can talk about. I know. No, I'm sorry. Was it, okay, here's the thing. I was wondering if it wasn't good because usually I have to avoid the phone because of all the spoilers. And I haven't seen anything about it.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Very good. Okay, great. I enjoyed it. They do an annoyingly good job of like leaving you at the end being like, all right, cliffhanger. Do you want me to give you the floor for like a minute or two to chat with the wife to yours? No, it's okay. I just, I liked it. Yeah, I will say this.
Starting point is 00:25:13 And I won't spoil it, but I'll say, like, they're doing a good job of making me change my allegiance to who I'm, like, rooting for. Yeah. And everything I've been seeing on TikTok is just like that Roneira just makes the, she has no strategy and just makes the dumbest decisions. It makes it hard to root for her, you know? Yeah. Damon also makes some questionable decisions. I love Damon. The more and more I watch it, the more I'm rooting for, is it Aegon?
Starting point is 00:25:42 Is it Aegon? Egg on. The more I'm watching, the more I'm like, I don't fucking like this guy. Well, they did a great job last week of giving him a redemption arc, you know. He's got a very fun scene in this next episode. I'm sure. I mean, there's no way they were going to do that and then not make, you know, make that worthwhile. Like, obviously he's got a bigger role, I think, in the future of the show or the timeline or whatever than we all probably thought.
Starting point is 00:26:09 I think everyone, they did a really good job of making you think, like, oh, he's on death's door. like his his story is over kind of thing. And then obviously that changed real quick. Yeah, it's interesting too. Like I try not to read too much of it because I don't want to be, I don't want it to be spoiled. But I see so many people trying to make the connection of the in-between time between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones and what it all means based on who's
Starting point is 00:26:31 in power and Game of Thrones and like all that. But so there's one more season of House of the Dragon in two fucking years. And then it's done, right? Yeah. Crazy. Agon and Aman have to run into each other. other and that's like very like very fucking fun yeah you also find out that the witch is who we think she is she's like 150 years old you know yeah yeah everyone's been saying that yeah anyways yeah it's
Starting point is 00:26:55 it's good it's it's good clean incestual fun oh insane yeah insane yeah insane you got any favorite okay well can't wait to watch that um did you start furious at all oh we are completely caught up oh love that do you how do what do you think it's fantastic Are you completely caught up? Are there four episodes or five? I don't know. I was caught up before I left on Friday. No, there was one last night.
Starting point is 00:27:23 Oh, then I haven't seen that. It's so good. And if you guys aren't watching Furious, you absolutely have to. It's on Hulu. It's got Emma Rossum from Shameless. FBI agent Alice Black is on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer. Both walk their own paths towards justice. and as their lives start to intertwine,
Starting point is 00:27:44 the line between right and wrong begins to blur. Emmy Rossum is fantastic in this, but the breakout star is the girl that plays Catherine. Totally. Lola Petacue. Holy crap, she's good. Yeah, she's really good. So I'll just give you guys a quick background.
Starting point is 00:28:00 Basically, she was trafficked as a child, and she's now on a revenge, revenge kick, getting everyone who effectively raped her as a child and Emmys the FBI agent trying to go after her. But Emmie's got her own issues going on. And then there's like a no nonsense black lady FBI agents named Agent Nora Washington who's fantastic, but she's also a drunk. It's such a good show. Here's what I find fascinating about it. Tell me. It's like for a crime show like this, like what's so interesting to me is it, is like right away you know who the killer is like right away we know who it is and and they're
Starting point is 00:28:44 and the story right is they're trying to catch her i feel like sometimes what keeps you locked into a crime drama is trying to figure out who it is like who the killer is but we already know and so to me that just like that just like says so much about how well of this of like a character story this is that it's it's these characters individual stories that are keeping you locked in and then it is more so that the killer like trying to find the killer you know what i mean Yeah, it's also doing like a Dexter or a Breaking Bad thing where you're rooting for the person who's doing the bad things. Totally. You know, you're like, yeah, go fucking kill those guys.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Fuck them, you know. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I mean, obviously I didn't see last night's episode, but this little twist on Nora like that we saw where she's covering something up, you know, from the cold case. I was like, oh, here we thought you were just a little angel of an agent. And something tells me that you've got more of a story. And that was a good way to keep it, keep you engaged and keep you, you know, locked in. Yeah. So I love it.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Yeah. And I was, I've never been a big Emmy Rossum fan. The only thing I've really loved that she's done was the, what's the movie with Jake Jensenhall, the day after tomorrow. Uh-huh. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, they were in like a debate club together. That is one of my favorite fucking movies of all time. I'm like, I've probably seen that movie a hundred times.
Starting point is 00:30:08 I don't know what it is. I just love it. And I loved her in that. She was very young. And since I've just kind of been like, oh, she's not my favorite. But I love her in this. She's amazing. Yeah, she was good in Shameless, but.
Starting point is 00:30:21 I never saw Shameless. Oh, that's a fantastic show. Never heard it's good. My only thing with Furious is it makes me feel very uncomfortable a lot. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I could be wrong about this. but you know Alice's kind of claim that Marshall abused her and everything I don't know if I think that I'm not sure if I think that's true.
Starting point is 00:30:48 I think there's something's not quite right about that story. Yeah. And I can't put my finger on it. Spoiler alert, I guess if you haven't seen it, just fast forward like 30 seconds here. But in the last episode I saw where you find out that she's asking, you know, her hookups to hit her. Yeah. that she gets off on it. That's an interesting, you know, before you knew that,
Starting point is 00:31:09 it was really easy to make her the victim. But now that you know that, it's like, hmm, you're right. Like, there is more to the story, I'm sure. Yeah. And like in this most recent episode, it even gets worse where it's like, what are you doing? Like, I'm very confused as to, like, why are you really trying to, like, create this narrative?
Starting point is 00:31:29 And also, like, why is Danny helping you? I'm not really sure about that. So, yeah. Their relationship is just weird. It's interesting. Like something's going on there. Yeah. I'm telling you something's not quite right.
Starting point is 00:31:40 But that's what I love about this show is that like, like the murders and the crime part of it like are kind of like the background of this whole story. It's really more about trying to figure out what the fuck's going on with these different agents and characters. And I love that about it. Yeah. It's good. Really good TV. Really good writing. Go check it out.
Starting point is 00:32:00 All right. You all know how much I love Quince. It is my go-to play. to shop for basics, which is literally all I wear. Let's be honest. I love that they have a 100% cotton collection. It's where I get all my basic t-shirts, tank tops, long sleeves, even like sports bras underwear. I've tried it all. I love it all. And I actually recently got Matt into quince. Let's be honest, Matt doesn't do any of his own shopping. I do it for him. And I recently ordered him the 100% cotton like man tanks. I ordered them in white, black and gray. I like to wear those under like a
Starting point is 00:32:34 button up, but I love when he just like wears the white tank on its own in the summer heat, like super hot. And I love Quince because it's such great quality, but at a great price point, Lord knows Matt can't keep a white tank clean for very long. So if I have to buy new ones, it doesn't break the bank. And they also have other materials like premium Mongolian cashmere when we start getting into winter. That's also great. Quince truly has something for everyone. Upgrade your every day. Download the Quince app for app exclusive. offers or go to quince.com slash y-f-t.
Starting point is 00:33:08 You'll get free shipping on your order and 365-day returns. Now available in Canada and the UK two. That's quince, q-u-in-c-e dot com slash y-ft. Do it. I need to give an update. Remember I was telling you about this documentary
Starting point is 00:33:26 called a toxic love story? Yes. So this guy, he breaks up with this girl, and then he gets a new girlfriend and all of a sudden the old ex-girlfriend starts sending like crazy messages and emails to the new girlfriend and then starts saying that, like, going on Craigslist
Starting point is 00:33:44 and like having this like rape fantasy and then like putting the new girlfriend's address in it and I was like, this is crazy and like, what a crazy ex-can. Can I just say, sorry I didn't finish that one because if, whoa, did that go on a different fucking, it's, I couldn't have been more wrong. It couldn't have been more fucking insane and crazy. Like, I couldn't believe what happened.
Starting point is 00:34:09 It's wild. I was like, the copter assholes. Well, they should be doing this. What are you talking about, Wells? Wasn't even close to being right. Wow. A toxic glove story you need to watch immediately. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Wow. It's wild. Okay. By the way. Wild. What's this? This was a Netflix or? Netflix, yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Netflix, yeah. All right. Wow. And speaking of Netflix. I watched the Idaho murderers. Oh, how is that? It's good. It's so sad.
Starting point is 00:34:40 It's like so senseless, you know? Like that was the only thing I kept, I came away from being like, what was the point of all? They all seemed like really nice kids. Ruined it. Like, it just sucks. And that guy fucking sucks.
Starting point is 00:34:52 I hope he rots in hell forever. Like, it's just, I just walked away from it being like, that sucks so hard that happened. Yeah. They seemed like such wholesome kids. What I hated about it was, it reminded me so much of what my college experience was like.
Starting point is 00:35:07 You know, like, they go, you know, they have the body cam footage of, like, the cops going in. And it's like, it's a cool, it's a pretty cool, like, party house. There's beer pong set up on, like, one floor. And then on the other one, there's, like, a dancing. Like, it's so much of what I remember, like, going into, like, the fraternity houses and the sorority houses. It seemed like such a cool place to go hang out. They all go to, like, this one bar called the corner bar, I think. And they all eat, like, shitty truck food, you know,
Starting point is 00:35:33 outside the bottom. Like, this was my college experience. Oh, wow. And that's what it sucks so hard if something like that happened to us. And like one of the big things that you find out is there's a break in. Someone sees someone. And it's like at 4 in the morning and they don't call the cops for hours. And so it's like, why didn't you do that?
Starting point is 00:35:54 Like maybe you could have saved lives, which you kind of, they kind of say like, man, no one was surviving this to that thing of like underage kids being scared to call the cops because they've got alcohol in the house, you know? Right. Yeah. That sucks that that's what they were concerned about, but I also like totally understand where they're coming from. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:36:12 That guy's a piece of shit. It's an interesting watch. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sad. Very sad. Oh, I saw this.
Starting point is 00:36:19 I want to show you this. This is one of my favorite things. Do you know who Ian Fleming is? Name sounds kind of familiar. He's an author. He wrote like the James Bond. Oh. stuff. They came across
Starting point is 00:36:34 what his daily routine was and I kind of want to be Ian Fleming. So 7.30, get up with the birds and bathe in the ocean, then back for breakfast, scrambled eggs, and sit in the garden until 10.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Okay, that sounds lovely. It does. 10 a.m. sit down, write 1,500 words without looking back. I like that. 11.15, snorkel around the bay looking for lobsters, then come back and have a couple pink gins with lunch. That sounds awesome. I don't even know what a pink gin is, but I want one now.
Starting point is 00:37:07 Sounds delish. 2.30 to 4. Ciesta. Incredible. Taking a nap. 4 o'clock, sit in the garden for an hour, then go for another swim. Healthy. 5 p.m. write another 500 words.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Number the pages, put them in a folder and have a couple of powerful drinks. Wow. 7 o'clock, dinner and scrabble with his wife, Anne. 10 p.m. go to bed. Love it. What a life. I just want to be the author of James Bond films.
Starting point is 00:37:38 I'm telling you, the people that move to Jamaica are doing it right. Yeah, seriously. Like, island life is just the ultimate, I know. That's what we all need to be striving for. That needs to be the goal, is island life for retirement. Yeah. Have you ever seen the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise? No.
Starting point is 00:37:56 It's a part of me, like, so that movie's about like him basically moving down to like an island and becoming a bartender in the island. It's a problem that's like, that would be awesome. Just go start a little. Oh, that's like Matt's dream. Go start a little, like a little bar. It sells tacos or something. Literally Matt's dream.
Starting point is 00:38:13 I mean, whatever. Let's do that. Yeah. Well, Matt, if, ask Matt if he wants to go in on it with me. I mean, I'm sure he'd love to. He wants to have a bar so bad. I want a bar, but I also, I want like a little taco stand. Yeah, well, that's, you can do the taco.
Starting point is 00:38:31 goes, you can do the bar. Yeah, but I play a bartender on TV. I feel like I should be a part of the bar thing. You definitely should, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, and then Sarah and I will just lay on the beach and get tan. Yeah. Do you have a niece or nephew?
Starting point is 00:38:44 Yes. Are you watching any of the stuff that they're watching? No. Let me tell you something. I'm watching the stuff that they're watching and they got some weird shit going on over there, dude. Why are you watching it? Because I'll go babysitting. And so my nephew would be like, I want to put on Carl the Collector.
Starting point is 00:38:58 And I'm like, let's watch Carl the Collector. Can I just tell you what Carl the collector's about? Please. It's about a neurodivergent raccoon. Oh, that's precious. So it's like all these neurodivergent animals, right? Okay, I love that. There's a panda named Paolo, who is nonverbal and talks through a tablet.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Well, that's cute. Carl is called Carl the collector because Carl is very OCD and he has to collect things like put the... I love that. His parents are divorced. Like, why? I don't even, you didn't need to do this. They're just trying to make these things seem normal for these kids because this is the world we live in. There's an armadillo named Dylan who's kind of a jerk but like doesn't like to be touched.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Oh, I love him. There's a fox named Lada who wears headphones all the time, which is my wife, by the way. Cute. Cartoons are. I love this. What's weird about this? It's just like. Well, think about how much better this is than what we fucking watch.
Starting point is 00:39:56 No, I know. It's like, it's all about like inclusivity. and like learning about other people's like issues and like making sure you're getting people like space and everything like I totally get it I was watching like Rugrats I was gonna say Ren and Stempey like let's just compare the two and like it explains why we are the way we are I'm sure anyways Carl the collector you got to check it out like is insane and my nephew loves it I bet that sounds like something I would like we got to get on Carl the collector. I want to be, what animal would you be? A donkey. Oh, okay. I love donkeys. And then I'd love
Starting point is 00:40:37 donkeys too. And then what would be your neurodivergency? Donkeys are very stubborn. I mean, I'm very stubborn. And I also just don't really like being around people. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. I'm a loner. What would I be? I don't know. What kind of animal do you think I would be? Hmm, look at, hmm, I'm just trying to think of like what animal would be. Yeah, what is my, I am 80, I am truly neurodiverg, and I am ADD and ADHD. Mm-hmm. So that's, that's someone who I can't focus. So I'm like a butterfly.
Starting point is 00:41:13 A butterfly, yeah, or like a Jack Russell Terrier. Yeah. All right. It's good. Anyways, Carl the collector, go check it out. Yeah. You got anything else? I'm so, so, so late to the party on this, and I know that.
Starting point is 00:41:31 I finally started the third book in the fourth wing series. Oh, yeah. It's called Onyx Storm. Did you finish all three of them? I got into the third one and I was like, I'm done. I can't. It's long. It's really long.
Starting point is 00:41:44 We're all long. This one's really long and it's just a lot slower, I guess. It's a lot like more, a lot more war strategy and like just a lot of paragraphs about like the history of this make-believe world and I just can't keep up with all the names and the places and the things and it's just a lot of that and it's just hard to stay engaged where like the first two books were just a lot of like the love story and a lot of like sex scenes and like fun stuff to read so I do love it and I've been meaning to finish this last one for a long time so I finally cracked it open at the pool about halfway through thanks to my stay at the LaGuardia airport yesterday it's all I did
Starting point is 00:42:17 I do love it I'm so so so curious to see how they're going to turn this into a show and who they're going to cast and all that. I've been seeing some birds of it. Like I've been seeing in, I guess online, like TikTok and stuff, some actors and actresses that I guess would really love to play the roles. We'd come forward and say like, I would know, I would love to be violent. I would love to be Zayden, whatever. This is my picture. So I feel like we're maybe getting closer to getting that. It's going to be really hard for them to put all of this into episodes, I think. So I'm just, I'm curious to see how that's going to work. Yeah. Speaking of books, did I ever talk about the book incidents around the house? Yeah, you did. I did.
Starting point is 00:42:53 So, you know, we were at the Odyssey last night. The trailer started coming on. And there's a movie called Other Mommy that's coming out. Okay. And I'm sitting there watching it. And Sarah was like, have you seen this? It looks so fucking scary. And I'm like, I read this book.
Starting point is 00:43:09 And it was called Incidents Around the House. But the movie's called Other Mommy. Oh. Jessica Chastain. Oh, I love her so much. She's like the main one. Okay. She's like the mom and the other mommy.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Anyways, it's about like a... This little girl's got like an imaginary friend who's other mommy. You know, this is a demon of some sorts. Oh, lovely. Yeah, anyways, the movie's gonna be coming out and it looks really, really good. Speaking of books I'm reading,
Starting point is 00:43:42 I am currently really enjoying the long way to a small, angry planet is the 2014 debut science fiction novel by Becky Chambers. Rosemary Harper A young woman with a hidden past who joins the multi-species crew of the aging tunneling ship Wayfarer, the crew embarks in a long, lucrative journey across the galaxy to punch a hyperspace wormhole towards a distant, aggressive alien planet, growing into close-knit found family along the way,
Starting point is 00:44:11 the long way to a small, angry planet. Very fun. I also feel like they're probably going to make this into a movie. For sure. Go check it out. I feel like sci-fi like I do. It's pretty great. The last thing, I feel like I've already talked about this multiple times,
Starting point is 00:44:27 but I need to talk about it again because I watch it again with Sarah. Obsession is so fucking good. I haven't seen it yet. You and Matt need to watch it. Okay. And then you need to watch something else afterwards because it's so freaky. It was one of those where like we watched it and then I was like, let's watch Spider-Man.
Starting point is 00:44:48 Let's watch something before we go to bed because it was spooky. Yeah. Okay. That new girl, indie, whatever her name is, she's like all over the place. It's such great writing. It's so fun. It's so fucking scary. I just, if you haven't seen an obsession, please go watch it.
Starting point is 00:45:05 You will love it. Okay. And also hate it. Yeah. Great ending, by the way, too. Oh. The whole thing. That kid.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Where do you watch that again? We rented it on like Apple. That's what I thought. Yeah. Worth it, though. Okay. Go check it out. Love it.
Starting point is 00:45:20 Got any voicemails or anything? All right, let's check out some voicemails. This is, are you coming to Louisville, question mark? Louisville. Louisville. Louisville. Louisville slugger or Louisville slugger? Louisville slugger.
Starting point is 00:45:35 Louisville slugger. You know, I know that's how you pronounce it, but it's, it sounds like you're drunk when you're saying it. Exactly. Everyone in Kentucky is drunk. Yeah. But I love a Louisville. You live where? I love Louisville.
Starting point is 00:45:49 Hey, this is Rachel from Louisville, Kentucky. She said it. I just wanted to share that one of my just found out favorite things is that Noah Cyrus is going to be performing at Bourbon and Beyond, which is a four-day festival here in Louisville on September 26th when Noah's performing. But the festival goes for from Friday to Thursday to Sunday. So I'm going to that. And my question now is Brandy and Wells. Are you coming?
Starting point is 00:46:23 You all should definitely come. There are so many other great artists that are going to be there. Some headliners are food fighters, Mumford & Sons, Casey Muskraves, Chris Stapleton, the Red Clay Strays. There are so many artists that perform here. And it is just an amazing four-day festival. You also get access to the amusement park, Kentucky Kingdom. So I'm so excited to see Noah and let me know if you all, are going to come.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Love to meet you all if you do. Thanks. Bye. It's called Bourbon and Beyond. Do you want to see it's Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton, Mumford & Sons, and Dave Matthews band? Damn.
Starting point is 00:47:04 This looks awesome. Wait, Kentucky, have you ever been to Kentucky Kingdom? No. You don't understand. We went there every single fucking years. This is a favorite thing. My parents took us there. Okay, how do we see?
Starting point is 00:47:14 Okay, what day did she say Noah was? Friday? The Flaming Lips. Wait, this is such a great lineup. Food Fighters. Queens of the Stone Age, the War on Drugs, Goose, Gary Clark Jr. Joan Jet and the Blackhearts,
Starting point is 00:47:27 four non-blonds, cheap trick, the fray, plain white teas. Isbel. Isbel, Langhorn, slim. Cellyle lefty. She's playing everywhere, isn't she? Jesus, this is a huge festival. Dude, Mumford and Sons, Casey Musgraves,
Starting point is 00:47:41 Fosh, the people of monsters and men, the flaming lips, Father John Misty, Marcus King Band. I was playing on Saturday. Saturday's Chris Stapleton, the Ray Clay Straves. Jason Isbel. I know. I might have to go to this. The only problem is I'm supposed to be in New York that weekend, but I'm going to have to see if I can make this work because I would obviously love to go see Noe. Yeah. And it's so close I can drive. And what a great lineup.
Starting point is 00:48:07 Okay. Wow. Thanks for the tit. Yeah. Thanks, dude. Yeah. Let's see what else we've got. Hey, Wells and Brandi. I've been listening a good while here. Sorry. I absolutely love you guys. And look, well, I'm not a girly girl. I don't like half the, you know, girly stuff that Brandy likes. But I promise you, you absolutely do have to watch the notebook. I don't like very many rom-coms, but it is truly a winner. And it is so just such a brilliant film. I'm shocked that Sarah never made you watch it, honestly.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Please get that on your list. And if you need a, you know, cleanser of you can watch the news. Rachel McAdams movie, Send Help, which is still in theaters, but probably be out soon, but you got to check it out. All right. Love you guys. I don't know. Did I say who I was?
Starting point is 00:49:08 I'm from Pittsburgh. Christina. Come here. Come do a live thing. Yeah, cool. Bye. Love her. Christina seemed cool.
Starting point is 00:49:15 She does. No book is a class. I wouldn't even call it a rom-com. It's not that funny. It's very sad. Is it? Yeah. I would say I did see Send Help.
Starting point is 00:49:24 And I didn't love it. I didn't love it. I didn't love it. It was a fun. premise and Richard McAnnam's is very fun in it. But I was just like, man,
Starting point is 00:49:32 I know. But I can be wrong. Anyways, that's all I got. What you got coming up? I am going to Toronto. Not this weekend, but next weekend.
Starting point is 00:49:42 Oh, nice. I love Toronto. Summer is really just come into a close really quick on us. Is it though? It's fucking nine million degrees outside.
Starting point is 00:49:48 I know it's a million degrees, but this is what happens. But yeah, just, yeah, it is. This is like, I only have a few,
Starting point is 00:49:53 like, summer shows left for the year, which is crazy. So next weekend in Toronto, I'm playing Cabana, which is like a day club. So it's a day show. It looks very cool. It's on the water.
Starting point is 00:50:03 And I'll be doing that on August 22nd, which is Saturday. Yeah, that's kind of like my last like pool day club summer show, I think, unless something crazy happens last minute. So if you're in Toronto, come on out. I know we do have some wife tears in Toronto. Nice. Yeah. I'm going to New York to do press for this new show that's coming out on August 25th called the big break that I'm hosting. So I'll be there for that.
Starting point is 00:50:27 And then I've got a bunch of like golf things that I've got to do for work. Of course you do. I know. Someone's got to do it. And so, yeah, anyways, that's what's going on over here. Okay. And I do believe that Sarah's going to have an announcement coming up very soon. Ooh, that's exciting.
Starting point is 00:50:43 Yes, very exciting. For some. Yes. For some, for others. It's very sad. All right. Well, that's all I got. That's all we got.
Starting point is 00:50:52 We love you. We need some more voicemails. Hit us up. 858, 630. 1856, 858 630, 1856. Throw some more voicemails in there. Also, DM us, any stuff. We've got one of our producers that throws in all the DMs into one big thing and we can read them off.
Starting point is 00:51:09 So hit us up over there. See you later. See you next time. Bye. Bye. I'm Audit Cornish. I'm Ari Shapiro. And it's engagement party.
Starting point is 00:51:18 And we get to talk about what we're obsessed with, what we're engaged with, what we need to process with a friend. Big question. Are we running out of protein? That was a question that the Atlantic recently posed. Wait, I want to share my headline. No way. Get it? W-H-E-Y. Like you cleared both physical and psychological space for that joke.
Starting point is 00:51:41 Follow engagement party. Wherever you get your podcasts.
