Your Favorite Thing with Wells & Brandi - Off Campus, Depressing Netflix Shows & Bringing Back Mixtapes

Episode Date: June 3, 2026

From a 24-hour hangover and the pure joy of a clean garage to campaigning for the return of the mixtape (Spotify playlists just aren't the same), Wells is showing his age again in t...oday’s episode. And after weeks of YFTers begging, Brandi FINALLY started Off Campus! The excitement continues as Wells shares that he got to film his golf show with the legendary Luke Wilson, where he discovers Luke's favorite Wes Anderson movie (not the one you'd expect) but somehow forgets to ask about The Family Stone. A devastating fumble. Meanwhile, Brandi spends her week h anging with all the dogs at Wags & Walks and accidentally spills the tea on a secret Cyrus family pet (and it's not the tortoise or the ducks!). Plus, they discuss the deeply upsetting Netflix documentary The Crash, the never-ending Murdoch family drama, and a book recommendation featuring aliens and a cat named Princess Donut. Please keep those DMs coming because we love hearing from you! Favorite Things:  (18:37) Off Campus (22:38) The Crash (25:32) Instadocs: Alex Murdaugh, Unconvicted, (26:24) Dutton Ranch (SPOILERS) (27:01) Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman (Book)(29:42) Ladies First (33:14) The Burroughs (34:21) Four Seasons  Thank you to our awesome sponsors:  Article: Article is offering our listeners $50 off your first purchase of $100 or more. Starting point is 00:00:00 This podcast is brought to you by Podcast Nation. Withay. Hi. How you doing? I'm doing. Yeah. Yeah. How are you doing?
Starting point is 00:00:12 I'm doing good. I had a 24-hour hangover for my, because I had my birthday party. I saw that. So much fun. Best boy I've ever had, I got to say. Shout out. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Shout out to the Louisiana crawfish company. They will overnight you crawfish. Left Friday night. It was in L.A. Saturday morning. This might be a silly question, but is Louisiana the only place you can get crawfish? No, you can get crawfish in California. Oh, why don't you get it from there?
Starting point is 00:00:39 You can't get it like in, like a, like they have farms in like the south in Mississippi, Louisiana. If we go in the river right now, like we used to go crawfishing in the Carmel River and they've got, there's crawfish in all the rivers and all of our troops. Yeah, but you can like get them for consumption or what? No, but you can go get a fishing license and you can go hunt them and then you can eat them. But it's much easier to have them. send it to you. And also they're much better from Louisiana.
Starting point is 00:01:04 They're bigger, you know. Got it. So anyways, we had a crawfish boil from birthday. And a bunch of people came over. And it's very funny to serve crawfish to a bunch of Angelinos because they're like, what. I can't imagine. They're like, what the fuck is this? But then then they're like, oh, my God, this is amazing.
Starting point is 00:01:23 And we had a great time. We got, we got real banged up. We had a cool pool party. Kids were over. We had a sing-along at the end. there and man I had a good time we got the recipe perfected my brother perfected it that's awesome you got to come to love it it's what we're going to do every birthday I've decided is I'm just doing a crawfish boil wow wow I mean it's a shame we weren't there because Matt would have loved
Starting point is 00:01:51 the crawfish boil so oh my god we'll have to plan on being there next year it was so much fun actually everyone had a great time so and I got to say my beautiful wife has a I've been like redecorating the backyard looks so good. Oh, yeah. It came in today, actually. We got a new, new seats, sofas outside, outdoor sofas. And then we have in the middle of it, it's a fire pit thing. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:02:16 It's nice and big. And it's got a cover that goes on top. So if you're not using the fire pit, you can just kind of use it as a table, you know? Mm-hmm. Very nice. Ah, man. Our backyard looks dialed. We got to, everything's kind of dialed at the house right now, which is nice.
Starting point is 00:02:30 That is nice. You guys have a good spot. Yeah, it's a good spot. You got the pool fix, which was nice. And I cleaned out my garage. Did I tell you about that? No. Man, I've been doing a lot of stuff.
Starting point is 00:02:41 So I had, I put the golf simulator in my garage during the pandemic. That's when I remember that. Yep. And I loved it. And then I got in, and we also had our gym in there. And then I moved my gym to our little pool house that we've got, you know. Yep. And I was getting a way better spot for the gym.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Yeah, yeah, yeah. The gym looks great. Actually. Yeah. I was like, I'm annoyed. In L.A., everything gets so dusty. We were washing cars like once a week. It's like, we have to just park these in the garage.
Starting point is 00:03:08 So I cleaned out the entire garage. Man, does that look good? I bet. I'm like an adult. Now, I have a garage that I go into. Right off the garage, we have like a little bit of a mud room. I'm putting shoes over there now, you know? Wow.
Starting point is 00:03:23 I'm like a big boy. Clearly. Yeah. You're like excited about a clean garage. I mean. It's not that I'm not here for it, but it is showing your age just a bit. Everything that is giving me joy is showing my age. I told you last week that power washing is like I feel like, like I said,
Starting point is 00:03:43 if you're just having a bad day, you should just go power wash some shit. You know? Yeah, it is elite. Elite. And then I don't know if I spoke to you. I just went to Florida. Oh, you've been to Florida back? Wow.
Starting point is 00:03:56 I went to Florida and San Diego. So we went to Florida, we went to Tampa, and then drove to a place called Cabot Citrus Farms, which is like a golf destination place. That place rocked, by the way. Had a great time. Was it raining in Florida? Kind of, but it never really affected our golf. It was hot, though. I'll say that.
Starting point is 00:04:16 It was that. But we had a great time there, ate great food. If you're looking for like a golf destination spot, you can do a lot worse than Cabot Citrus Farms. That place was awesome. Okay. And then I flew back and I went to sleep for like two hours. And then this is why the episode was late this last week. It took me, I didn't have time to edit it because I was traveling.
Starting point is 00:04:34 So then I get back, sleep for like two hours, jump in my car, my new sports car. And I drive down to San Diego to go to the Titleist Performance Institute to film an episode of VIP, my golf show, with none other than Luke Wilson. How was he? He is his every character he's ever been. No way. He is just like a real chill, soft-spoken, chill, dude. He was awesome. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:05:05 He brought his dog named Bird. And so this is like a golf fitting institute. It's like kind of like a huge driving range and it's like where all the pros go and everything. And he's like, is it okay if I bring my dog in here? And I think normally they'd be like, no. But it was Luke Wilson. So they were like, yes, bring your dog in here. The dog was just frolicing around all the grass and just like rolling around in his back having the greatest day.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Yeah. What kind of dog? It was like a little terrier. Oh, cute. That's not what I was picturing. I know. Yeah, he was just the chillest. And he still looks really good and he was very nice.
Starting point is 00:05:39 And I love Luke Wilson. Yeah, sick. I love that. You know? I asked him what his favorite Wes Anderson film is. Because like, that's a thing that everyone talks about. I'm like, what's yours? He didn't even say a movie that he's in.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Of course not. Well, first of all, he's in the two most iconic ones. He's in Royal Tennen bombs and he's in Rushmore and he's in the first one in Bada Rocket. He came at me with Phoenician Scheme and I was like, well, that's just the newest one.
Starting point is 00:06:10 And he's like, which one's... Maybe he just doesn't want to pick one he's in. Maybe he was as a fan of Wes Anderson. I know he's your buddy, but like, do you have... He also really like Life Aquatic. He's like, that's my brother's in that one. Then he's like, what's yours? Rushmore is my favorite film ever
Starting point is 00:06:22 for a long, long time, but I do love Fantastic Mr. Fox. And he was like, oh, yeah, I love Fantasana. Fantastic Mr. Fox. So anyways, that was fun to talk to him about Wes Anderson films because you always talk about West Anderson films, but never with someone who's in a bunch of them, you know? That's true. I'd love to hear his brother's take on it.
Starting point is 00:06:38 I'd love to hear Bill Murray's take because Bill Murray's in like every West Anderson film. Yeah, he is. Wait, who's older, Luke or his brother? There's an oldest one. That's in a, he's in a bunch of stuff as well. Forget his name. And then there's Owen and then there's Luke. Got it.
Starting point is 00:06:54 And there might be a sister. I don't know. Anyways, that was really cool. Very cool. Because I'm a big fan of him. Yeah, that's really cool. I love him too. Yeah, I mean, think about all the old school.
Starting point is 00:07:06 I mean, you can't, I don't even know where to begin with the movie sees, but he's been in everything. Let's go through some of his stuff. Like, it is pretty crazy. And he was also like, kind of like a heartthrob rom-com guy for a while, too. Yeah, he was. But yeah, he's going to be on a new Netflix golf show. There's golfs everywhere. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Old school, Royal Tannenbombs, bottle rocket, vacancy, the cleaner. Wasn't he in... Idiocracy? The Family Stone. I didn't even ask... The Family Stone. Yep.
Starting point is 00:07:33 That's where I was getting at. Our favorite Christmas movie. I know. I didn't even... Sarah was like, I can't believe you didn't talk to him about Family Stone. I'm like, I know.
Starting point is 00:07:39 I know. What a freaking iconic. I know. Oh, Anchorman. Legally blonde. Oh, that's right. Legally blonde. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Charlie's Angels. Oh, that's a good one. Home fries. That was a good one. Yeah. Anyways. All right, Brandy. I've been telling you
Starting point is 00:07:55 that we have been been remodeling our backyard, getting it ready for pool season. Starting point is 00:09:47 like the boyfriend boxy style i've got tank tops white gray and black they're my favorite go-to tank to wear when I go ride my horse. I even have been trying some of their cotton underwear, a couple of sports bras that I really enjoy wearing. And I just love that Quince is priced so well compared to so many of the competitors. Okay, I don't know about you guys, but I really struggle with gifts. I'm just not the best when it comes to gifts because I have such a hard time finding something that I think feels personal to someone. Not a gift card, not something basic. I really like for it to mean something to somebody.
Starting point is 00:10:51 This is where I've discovered Zazel. It is the coolest online shop. It's a custom marketplace where you can basically take any product, like a coffee mug, a tote bag, a phone case, and you can make it mean something. So you're not just buying a gift. You're making one. So check this out. You browse tons of designs or you can start from scratch and build something that's completely your own design. I like to start with an idea and everything is made on demand. So for example, my best friend's birthday was a couple
Starting point is 00:11:22 months ago and I had custom dog bowls made for her with her dog's name on it. Zadal made this super easy. All I really had to do was put in each dog's name, decide how big I wanted the font and which font I wanted, what color I wanted. And it shows you a little mock up and then it shipped so quick. It was the perfect gift. She absolutely loved it. honestly I might need to buy the same gift for myself. Right now you can save 25% on your first order at zazzle.com. That's 25% savings on your first order at zazel zazel zazel.com. Go make something zamazing. Zazzle.com.
Starting point is 00:12:01 You want you on the show? Yeah, sure. Me or me. I think me, maybe. Go for it. Bros and hose. You're listening to your favorite thing podcast with. Bels Friday.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Speaking of dogs. Yeah. I went and visited Wags and Walks when I was in L.A. last. Oh, nice. I know you love them. I wanted to take home all the dogs. Are you going to foster another one? I need you to hurry.
Starting point is 00:12:25 I think we're just going to get one. I think we've circled on the calendar, August, being a good time to get a dog. That's exciting. Yeah. Okay. There were just so many there that I was like, if I lived in L.A., I would foster. Like, they're just so cute. I know.
Starting point is 00:12:39 But I went down there with Kelsey, who produces my. podcast with my mom. She has her own podcast called The Dog and Pony Show and she's doing a whole series with Wags and Walks to help highlight dogs that need to be adopted. And we got to go down there and play with all the puppies and it was just so cute. And when I did that, I don't know if you saw, but Miley got a tortoise named Tauru and I facilitated that. She had been asking me about a tortoise for a couple weeks and which was very out of left field, but I was like, you want a tortoise? Like, let's get a tortoise. And wags and walks helped facilitate that. I like, mentioned it to them as I was leaving. I was like, this sounds a little insane. Like,
Starting point is 00:13:16 I know you guys do dogs? But do you know where we could get a rescue tortoise? And within 24 hours, they hit me and we're like, hey, we found one in a shelter here in like Pomona or something. And it all worked out. Yeah. So thanks Wags and Walks for, you know, adding to the Ciders family farm. Where do you keep a tortoise? Oh, she's got a whole set up for him in her backyard. It's sick. And he's a desert tortoise. So he doesn't really need water, like just mud. So is this her Malibu house though? No, the one closer to you. Oh. She's got a big yard.
Starting point is 00:13:47 She does? Yeah, yeah. Did she have a place up in the hills? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And yeah. Why does she want a tortoise?
Starting point is 00:13:56 Do you know what? I think what started it is her dog, she has a golden retriever named Mandy. And I guess like wherever Mandy goes on walks, there's this freaking tortoise at some park or something. And the dog loves the tortoise. And so she was like, I want to get Mandy a tortoise. Anything for Mandy.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Mandy, yeah. She needs to get a bunny rabbit so then you have the tortoise and the hair. She just got one. Oh my God! Let's make a movie. She hasn't posted him yet or anything.
Starting point is 00:14:23 No one knows about the bunny yet. So I guess this is an exclusive. But she got a bunny. I don't think he has a name yet. I know what she was like thinking about calling him, but I'm not going to say in case she changes her mind. But yeah, she got a cute little bunny, also a rescue.
Starting point is 00:14:39 And I feel like there's like, there's like bunny quarantine before she can get another one just to make sure he's not like sick or anything, you know, since he was a rescue. You did you do that with the rescue animals? Like make sure they're not going to make your other animals sick or anything. But I think she's going to get a buddy for it because bunnies like to be in pairs. How did you transport a tortoise? I feel like that's a big animal. It's a great question. Yeah, he's huge. I feel like a dog crate maybe. Okay. I mean, that's how we transport the pigs when we had them. That's how we moved them around was like the gigantic dog crates.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So I feel like probably that. But he's the cute. That's crazy. What's his name? Mandy? Tereu. Tereu. Mandy's the dog. Mandy's the dog.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Yeah, yeah. Well, that's great. But yeah, we're going to get one. What I've been wanting to get is a Doberman. They have one there. I know, but that one's got epilepsy. Oh, that's so sad. I know.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Because I told him, I was like, I want a Doberman. They're like, we have one right now. And then I was like, okay. maybe this is perfect and tells like give me some more information they're like we're trying to figure out he's got epilepsy and I was like or he's got having seizures and you know Carl had epilepsy and it yeah it's a really hard thing to deal with with dogs and so if I could not have that I would like that yeah you know yeah I get it it would be like god but part of me is like but you know how to deal with it so I know because now you have the experience but like if I saw a dog that had the
Starting point is 00:16:06 like mega esophagus, like my German Shepherd had. God, that's so high maintenance to deal with. But I'm like, but I am equipped. I know. A lot of experience with that. So anyways, I don't know if I want that again, but you're right. I should be the one who gets him because I do know how to deal with it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:24 I got to say, quickly becoming a Delta guy. What? Yes. Becoming a Delta. Why? I tell you what. Well, I'm an American guy. And American has been, they've been running this some problems.
Starting point is 00:16:37 I know that you don't like. American's garbage. Yes, I know, I know how you feel, okay? Absolute trash. I don't have as bad of luck traveling as you do. Oh. I think because I travel more, I am probably more bad luck. Yeah, maybe so.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I also always take the first flight out, and that ensures that you're not going to get stuck because you can see the plane come in the night beforehand and you know you're good. Sure. But Delta's got a lot of new planes, I feel like, and they've got something that I'm really enjoying, and that is the ability to Bluetooth connects to the little TV.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Oh, that is nice. Do they have lay flat seats from here to Florida? Is that what you did or no? No, but we, I mean, it was a work trip, so we were in first class. It was nice. But it didn't lay flat. It did not lay flat.
Starting point is 00:17:22 I feel like lay flat. Jet blue does that. To Tampa? To Fort Lauderdale at least. Maybe Tampa. I don't know. I'm just saying JetBlue is the way. I'd do like JetBlue.
Starting point is 00:17:33 But anyways, I'm telling you, I'm loving this because I'm always like, well, I'll just use my iPad. So then I'm using my screen as like a little map thing. But that gives me anxiety because I can like watch the tick, you know, it takes forever. Yeah. So anyways, all you airlines out there, let's get the Bluetooth thing hooked up into the TVs. That is great. Yeah, that is a nice touch. And then you don't have to.
Starting point is 00:17:57 There's nothing that grinds my gears more is when they give out these headphones. First of all, the headphones are all trash. And second of all, what a waste. We've all got headphones, you know? I know. We've all got wireless headphones. Let's fix this problem. You guys are wasted.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Like the amount of money that you're spending on these like cheap headphones, it would be a fraction of the prices to update all these machines. So you never have to do that again. Okay. All right, Delta. My issue with Delta living in Nashville is like there's just not very many like routes for me. Because this is not a hub for Delta. So it's like anywhere I want to go, I have to stop in like Atlanta.
Starting point is 00:18:32 And I don't want to do. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get it. Yeah. You know what I was thinking about either day? I think the world is the way it is. There's a lot of divisiveness and like a lot of ugliness because we no longer have the ability to burn people CDs or make someone a mixtape. I mean, you could make them a playlist on Spotify.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Lame. That sucks, dude. Do you remember the, how great it was to make someone a mixtape? Of course. Oh, my God. And then you could kind of decorate this outside of the CD. You know, you could put pictures on it. Sometimes you like paste pictures on it and stuff.
Starting point is 00:19:09 You write stuff, you know. Because it was like a heartfelt gift of like, I know you like music. I know they could have a music that you like. And I made something for you that I think that you're really going to enjoy. It was the most lovely gift in the world. And they don't make, we can't do that anymore. Like, what is it?
Starting point is 00:19:25 Like a framed picture of like a photo that you took. Like that's all it is. That's all that's left. terms of sentimentality, can we bring back burn CDs? I mean, I agree that the burn CDs are, we need to bring those back. You're right. Yeah, or mixtapes. You know, you can personalize a get, like, you can personalize anything these days.
Starting point is 00:19:49 Like, shout out to our, like, we have this new sponsor, is Zazzle? And you can literally, it's like perfect for gifts, you can literally make anyone anything and put whatever picture or message or writing on it you want. What did you get from Zazel? I got some for one of my friends, but I actually just placed on order for myself, too. Dog bulls, like custom dog bulls. We saw those. We've been trying to figure out what to get from Zazzol.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Yeah, they're really cute. I mean, you know, they're, I mean, I feel like gifts. People that have pets, like, getting a gift for the pet is always a win. Yeah. And so I got them for my friend. And then I was like, wait, I want these for any house. I got them for myself. Speaking of gifts, it was my quote unquote birthday.
Starting point is 00:20:29 And I felt bad. I actually feel really bad about like, say. saying it was my birthday, but it was just like the excuse to have the crawfish boil. Like we wanted like, this is the reason why we're doing this. But I felt bad because everyone brought me gifts. And I was like, I don't want this. But you know what the overwhelming gift I got was? A candle?
Starting point is 00:20:47 No, I did get one candle though. Because that's what I always get. Always get candles. And also, and I know these are expensive candles. I know this is like a $50 candle. And that to, that to me is crazy. Insane. Someone did give me a candle.
Starting point is 00:21:00 And it's very nice. It's actually burning right. now downstairs. I got a lot of Don Julio 1942. Really? And do you know why? It was actually like a very smart gift. Because everyone's sponsored by Don Julio? No. I mean, maybe they are. But because it was my 42nd birthday. And I was like, that's smart. I was like, that's pretty good. How did you even know that? And I think a lot of people didn't even know that. But then I was like, oh, because it's my 40 second birthday, they're like, yep, that's exactly why I did it. Exactly. But anyways, we need to bring back the mixtape, man. You're right. And it sucks because now
Starting point is 00:21:38 none of my cars have CD players in them. I know. What do you do now? Spotify playlist. Not everyone's got Spotify. My wife didn't have Spotify. Apple Music playlist. Yeah, but what am I going to do? Am I going to get a new subscription to Apple Music just so I can make her playlists? I don't know. I feel like I would just make someone get Spotify. Be like, I made you a playlist, so you have to get Spotify now. I know, but that's just the whole thing. Or like you could add your wife to the family plan. She's pot committed to all her stuff's over there in Apple. Okay. And so I'm just like, maybe do I go over to Apple? I don't like it as much. You don't? No, I like Spotify better. Do too. Why did you whisper that? Is that? I mean, I don't know. I'm not trying to piss off Apple
Starting point is 00:22:20 music, you know? I guess, but. It's true. They are a juggernaut in the world. Anyways, I just I think mixtapes would make things a lot better in the world. And like kids don't even, like, that's a way to get laid as a high schooler. Dude, you make a mixtape for a girl. That's true. That's getting you a handy, bow show. Handy. You know it's true.
Starting point is 00:22:47 Speaking of high school. Yeah. It's not high school. It's college. Have you fucking seen the hot new show off campus? No, which is that? Wills. Do you live under a rock?
Starting point is 00:23:00 Is that the one about the gay hockey players? No, it's about straight hockey players. Oh, is it really? Yeah. I mean, there may be a gay one that comes out, especially, but as of now, they're straight. No, it is like the hot new fucking show. Everyone's talking about it. I think Amazon Prime is where it lives.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And it is, it's these college, set at college, college kids, and it's really like the hockey team or like those guys are the main characters. And then there's a girl that's like the main, main character. and she is kind of like not a, she's not a dork. She's beautiful. Like she's cute. And she's like a music major though. You know, she's not like part of the popular like like fratty crew or whatever, like the, the sporty people or whatever.
Starting point is 00:23:44 And then she makes this deal to help this hockey player because she's smart and like it makes good grades and he needs good grades to play hockey. So they make a deal to be in a fake relationship. And what he's getting out of it is like tutoring. And what she's getting out of it is making this guy that she has. actually likes jealous. It's very cute. They play great music on the show. I think one of the first episodes I saw they play, we're playing the beaches who are friends of mine, very nostalgic. Like I don't think it's meant to be set. I think it's, it seems like it's set in the now,
Starting point is 00:24:11 like current and present, but like they talk about like Paramore and like alt bands like that. And it's really cute. It's really good. Lots of nudity in the first couple episodes. It's like, this is like a show for YA, but like it's scandalous. Okay. Nudity, huh? It's great. I love. love it. And I also saw somewhere where do you remember the show Pretty Little Liars? Yes. I think this is adapted from a book and I think it's the same author as Pretty Little Liars
Starting point is 00:24:38 which makes a lot of sense. That show is great. Can I tell you what I think this sounds like? Sure. I don't care too much for money. Money can't buy me love. It sounds like Cam by Me Love. Does it? Yeah. You've seen Campa Me Love with McDreamy.
Starting point is 00:24:57 Yeah, been a minute. I guess little bit. Yeah. Anyways. It's good though. I love it. A college set romantic drama chronicling the unexpected love story between a music student and the university star hockey player, exploring themes of love and the complexities of adulthood through deep friendship and enduring bonds. Camp by me off campus. Love was never part of the deal. So let me guess what's going to happen. The guy that she's tutoring, that she's pretending to date to make the other one jealous, they're going to end up falling in love because they were meant to be together, right? Maybe.
Starting point is 00:25:34 There's like three. That can't, even if that happens. Yeah. That can't last forever. That can't last more than a season. I know, but you only got four seasons of this thing. Topps. Maybe a fifth year, but I'm just saying, like, that might be the T now, but like,
Starting point is 00:25:48 it could change real quick, you know? Yeah, maybe. It's great. Here's a thing is it's like, it's this YA show, whatever, but it really does. It has good themes running through it that are, that have some depth. and everything. And honestly, like, a couple of the actors are really good. Like, the lead girl, I don't know her name, but she's, she's really good. Like, the acting's not terrible. And it just, it fills that gap of like, tell me lies, summer I turned pretty. If you liked those shows,
Starting point is 00:26:12 pretty little liars, like, you'll love this. It's, it's great. Is the lead Ella Bright? Is it Hannah Wells? Yep. Right last name. Hannah Wales. He calls her Wellesy, which is what I call you sometimes, which is weird. Um, but it's cute. And they stole that. It's funny like I saw, what? They stole that. They stole that for me. It's funny. Like, I saw an article about the age gap between the two actors, the, that girl and the guy that she's in the relationship with on screen.
Starting point is 00:26:44 And I guess he's like a lot older than her, which is crazy because I actually would have thought she was older than him. She just has a very mature look. Interesting. She's great. Yeah. All right, Brandi, you know that I'm a fancy boy and I do love a good glass of wine. I do know that. As I've gotten older, I have realized that I really enjoy a white wine.
Starting point is 00:27:02 I'm a big, uh, yeah, I know. Like, I think when you're younger, you think it's cool to like drink red wine with like steak and stuff. But like there is nothing more refreshing than a sauvignon blanc or a nice pino grigio. A crisp white wine is just the best. But the problem is I just like never really know where to get good wine. I just usually grab something in the store. But then I found first leaf. And honestly, it just makes the whole thing super easy.
Starting point is 00:27:26 They match wines to your taste. and send them right to your door. So First Leaf delivers premium wine straight to my door every month. Starting point is 00:28:16 entire year. That's try first leaf, T-R-Y-F-R-S-T-L-A-F-A-F dot com slash Y-F-F-T. Have you watched the Netflix documentary The Crash? No. Do you not know about it? I don't. Oh, my God. The crash. Dude, you have to watch it.
Starting point is 00:28:39 It's really sad, actually, but follows the McKenzie Shrilla case, a 17-year-old who intentionally crashed her car into a brick wall in Ohio, killing her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and his friend Davian Flanagan. The Crash. So it's this young girl named Mackenzie Shrilla. And she's in this relationship with this older boy named Dom. They like live together. And she's like really pretty. Very fashionable.
Starting point is 00:29:06 But you can just tell she's a mean girl. Like 100%. You can tell. Oh. She just like smokes a lot of weed on social media. And she's in this relationship with this guy. And I think they've got a pretty tumultuous relationship. And they go to like a graduation party.
Starting point is 00:29:23 At the end of it, they're driving home like five in the morning and they get into a car crash. The two guys die and she survives. Yikes. It's basically about this girl. She gets tried for murder because it's like you intentionally did this. And, you know, of course, everyone's like, no way. I mean, they were probably, you know, everyone thought they were on mushrooms or on drugs or whatever. But you see the footage, ring cams of them like, like, shoot, like, and then the black box information of the car.
Starting point is 00:29:53 It's like you never even tried to press the break. You just went full pedal to the metal 100 miles an hour down this street. So then she gets tried for murder and then I won't say, well, what happens to her? It's pretty crazy. It's a really, it's really sad. And then like I'm seeing stuff on TikTok now, like after the thing, like they're starting to release the calls she's having with her mom. And she's speaking in like, you know like pig Latin where it's like, what do they call it? Like code.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Gypsy slang or something like that. Yeah, it's like code. And so they're using like chatchy. to decode it, you know? Yeah. She's talking with her mom and her parents just seem like such fucking idiots. I got to be honest with you. Total enablers.
Starting point is 00:30:33 This girl just seems like the worst. And these two guys died and it's really sad. Anyways, the crash. Highly recommend, but also really sad. It sounds so sad. Yeah. Because all cops have dash cams and they all wear body cams, it's so easy to make a documentary because there's,
Starting point is 00:30:53 so much footage. That's true. You have everything. Yeah. Every time a kid comes into the police station, that's being recorded. When they go arrest you, that's, they have so much footage. Yeah. To just piece it all together.
Starting point is 00:31:09 The courtroom footage, all there. Maybe that's why there are so many, like, there are so many documentaries these days. Yeah, because it's easy to do because you have all the stuff. Yeah, it makes sense. And we started watching a new thing on the Murdaugh trial is back at. At it. Oh, God. Again?
Starting point is 00:31:25 Again, they're trying for like a mistrial because a jury clerk or whatever was definitely trying to persuade people to do things. Oh, shit. That's on Netflix, too. You got to check that out. Damn. The Murdof thing is the gift that keeps giving. It is. It's just like, that will never end.
Starting point is 00:31:46 It'll never end. It'll never end, even though I'm pretty sure he killed his wife and his son. Yeah, you've been saying that. Or my theory is, is that he didn't kill him, but he was, he owed money to the wrong people. And those people came over and killed his, killed his wife and his kid in front of him and said, if you don't pay us, we're going to kill your last son or whatever. And like, that's why you can't tell anybody. Or if you say anything, we'll kill your son. So shut up.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Yikes. I don't know. But anyways, the crash. Go check it out. Okay. Yeah. If you want to be depressed. Speaking of depressed
Starting point is 00:32:21 Yeah Dutton Ranch is so depressing Is it? It's good But like fuck This last episode This past week Was just the saddest
Starting point is 00:32:30 Fucking most depressive Thing I've ever seen Dang What are they trying to do to us Why is it depressing Is they killing horses and shit? Oh I don't want to ruin it for anybody But yeah
Starting point is 00:32:41 The animal deaths are just crazy There's racking up animal deaths Huh? Yeah it is It's gnarly It's just all like Really dark I got a book wreck
Starting point is 00:32:50 Oh, really? This is very fun, by the way. Do you tell. It's called Dungeon Crawler Carl. Okay. Interesting title. Dungeon Crawler Carl is a highly acclaimed sci-fi and lit RPG series by Matt Dinnaman. It follows Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend's talking cat, Princess Donut, as they fight to survive an apocalyptic video game like dungeon that's been turned into a sedent.
Starting point is 00:33:20 intergalactic reality TV show, dungeon crawler Carl. So it's kind of similar to hunger games or like running man. So it starts out, I'm really early on this, early in this book, but I'm loving it immediate. Like it's so fun already.
Starting point is 00:33:38 So it starts with, it's this guy Carl and he lives with his, his extra old friend's cat named donut. And he like wakes up in the middle of the night. He can't sleep. So he goes outside to smoke a sick. And as he's outside smoking a cigarette, aliens attack the earth and like just crushes everything. And because he's out of his building, he like doesn't get killed.
Starting point is 00:33:59 What the hell just happened? And then like a like a screen pops up in his in his mind's eye and is like, congratulations. You are now playing in the dungeon crawler series. There are 10,000 different like entrances. Go find one right now. And he's like, what? So then he gets to go into like this cave system that's like all these, the aliens have like burrowed into the ground. And then basically he has to get like down like 12 levels of this dungeon to win the game and like survive.
Starting point is 00:34:31 If not he's going to die. So like every level he has to like fight different like goblins and stuff. And I know this, it sounds crazy. It does sound a little insane. I'm pretty sure they're making this into a TV show. I mean, it sounds like they should. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:46 Here's the premise. When the Earth's resources are exploited by an alien corporation, the survivors are thrust into a massive trap-filled 18-level underground dungeon. Carl, standing outside in just a pair of heart-patterned boxer shorts and leather jacket, is forced to dive in. The goal is not just to survive, but to keep the countless viewers across the galaxy entertained through style, humor, and chaos. dungeon crawler Carl
Starting point is 00:35:16 Dude I mean this aligns with your brand I feel Dude so fun You kidding me You gotta love a good weird So it's like very kind of role RPG role playing You know sure
Starting point is 00:35:29 But I gotta say I highly recommend Check it out Okay all right Yeah I started a movie We didn't finish it With everybody
Starting point is 00:35:38 Man I fell asleep But I watched more of it than he did It's a new movie With Sasha Baron Cohen Have you seen it? No but it's so funny in our YFT DMs, someone recently said, KD says, a new movie that just came out this past week
Starting point is 00:35:52 that I thought was going to be awful, but actually loved the premise, was Ladies First with Sasha Baron Cohen and Rosemond Pike. I was worried with it being Sasha Baron Cohen because Borac goes a little too far for me, but he actually plays a redeemable character in this movie. I think Wells will like it. I don't know if Brandy will because it's comedy,
Starting point is 00:36:11 but the premise is really good, and I recommend it. It's on Netflix. Oh, well, let me tell you why I love it. Okay. I don't think I'm ruining anything. I mean, this is the movie. Basically, like, Sasha Baron Cohen's character, like, hits his head, like, has head trauma and wakes up in this world where... It's freaky Friday, right?
Starting point is 00:36:31 A little bit. Yeah. He wakes up in this world where men and the roles and... That's the right word. Just men and women have swapped. Like, women rule the world. Women are in charge. And it's just this world where, like, men...
Starting point is 00:36:44 get treated the way women have always been treated and it's fucking hysterical. I mean, it's all so exaggerated and so funny, but like, I love it. I mean, again, I didn't finish it, but it is, it's good. And I love Rosamund Pike. I think she's incredible. She's so good in this. This is my kind of comedy when we make fun of men. Love it.
Starting point is 00:37:03 A male chauvinist is transported to a matriarchal society facing challenges from a permissible female version of himself. Ladies first. I watched the trailer for this, and I was like, oh, this looks actually very fun. But I was like, this is, this is freaky Friday. Like they swap. Yeah, a little bit. Bodies, basically, right?
Starting point is 00:37:23 A little bit. It's just like his world gets, like, turned upside down. And he just wakes up in, like, this different world, you know, where everything is just done different. Like, it's good. Love it. Also, Matt and I are fully on board with Widows Bay now. Okay. Do you like it now?
Starting point is 00:37:38 Yeah, we love it. Matt really loves it. Yeah, it's good. We always watch TV before bed. And it is creepy. I feel like it's giving me some gnarly nightmares, but no, it's really good. And what's the lead guy's name?
Starting point is 00:37:51 He's great. Yeah, his name's Matthew Rize. Oh, yes, yes. He's so good. Are you all the way caught up? I don't think so, but we're close. I didn't like the most recent episode, but it was, I think it's important because this one goes like back in time
Starting point is 00:38:06 and she like understand why it is the way it is. The girl that plays Patricia, like his office assistant, lady, but you're not like not, you know, she, she's the one who, like, throws the party. Yeah. That part, by the way, that's so funny that she thinks that she's just alive for the party, but really she's crazy. That girl. That girl, her physical comedy is so good.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Like, I need you to watch the way she walks. It's very, like, Sarah pointed out, she was like, God, I love the way that she's, like, carries herself in this show because it's very, like, angular and, like, she's, trying to do a Shelly Duvall from like shining. You can tell like this looks like she's trying to do this thing. And she looks like her too. But her physical comedy is fantastic. That show, I told you, I think it's the best show on TV.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Yeah. It's so good. Yeah, it is great. We finished the Burroughs. Did I tell you about the burrows? Yeah, I haven't started it. But you know, here's the thing. Like, I really like the first couple episodes.
Starting point is 00:39:07 And then like the more we watch it, the more I was like, I don't know if it's the writing or the acting. But something's bad about it. Like, and like it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I was like, Gina Davis is like, I feel like she's not act. Like, this is bad acting. But then I'm like, maybe it's just bad directing. Right. Writing or. Because Sarah had a good point.
Starting point is 00:39:27 She was like, depending on who's directing this, they might be scared to tell Gina Davis that like, we need to do a different version of whatever you just did. You know, they might be like, that's great because you're Gina David. You know, because it's such like juggernaut actors. Mm-hmm. Maybe that's the case. or maybe it's just the writing's bad. Yeah, interesting. But it is fun.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I enjoyed the ride. It's stranger things with old people. We enjoyed it. Well, we finished it. So I don't know if they're going to do another season. I feel like Netflix wants to do more Duffer Brothers seasons, but I don't know how you do it. I guess you could, though.
Starting point is 00:40:02 I told you about maximum pleasure guaranteed. I still really like that show. Yeah, I need to start that. Yeah. And then we started a show recently, and I got to say, I don't love it, but I'm surprised I don't love it. It's called Four Seasons.
Starting point is 00:40:19 I feel like I know. I've heard of this. Who's an accident? Tina Faye, Will Forte, Carrie Kinney. She's like in Arena 9111. You know her from that. Coleman Domingo, Steve Carell, the cast, Alan Alda.
Starting point is 00:40:32 Like, the cast is insane. So it's based on a movie that Alan Alda did years ago. And so effectively, it's three suburban couples, vacation together each season, but tensions are, eyes when one couple splits up and the husband brings a much younger woman on subsequent trips for seasons. So in the first one, it's all these funny people like Will Forte, Tina Faye, Steve Carell, like those are like the maybe the funniest people in the past like 20 years of
Starting point is 00:41:02 American television. It starts out with Steve Carell's character tells everyone like, yeah, I'm going to divorce my wife. And her name's Anne or Annie in the show. And he's like, I want to divorce Annie. And it's like, they're like, no, you put it. No, don't do, you know, like whatever. And he's like, I'm just not in love with her anymore. And like, it's, the kids are now in college. Like, it's time, you know.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Jump cut to like the reason why they're on this vacation is because Annie's doing a surprise vowel renewal. And you're like, oh, God, you know. And like that's, so there's tension there. And then, you know, the next season is whatever, summer. And then they go on vacation in like, the tropics or whatever. And then he's now brought his new girlfriend with him.
Starting point is 00:41:48 And I got to say, like, one, like the caliber of comedians that are on this, I thought it would be funnier. Like, it's a lot of laughs, but it's a lot of like, you know, not like hilarious laughs. And then also it's a lot of these themes of being an older couples and like the struggles that marriage brings. Okay. And like last night, I was like, Sarah, this is depressing. me.
Starting point is 00:42:13 Oh, no. You know, like, I'm like, I feel bad. Like, I'm like bummed down by, like, this is like, my future? It's like, is this everyone's future that like you're all just like grossed out by your partner and you're just like over it and you just sort of. I hope not. I know. But that's how I felt.
Starting point is 00:42:30 So anyways, I finally last night, I was like, can we watch something else? I'm done before season. So I don't know if I would highly suggest it. But if you like those actors, feel free. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:44 We do have some DMs we can go through. Sure. Let's see. This is coming in on the YFT podcast Instagram DMs. Someone said, everyone is saying you need to watch off campus. It's the first thing I talked about. That's right. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:02 We got to do that one. Mm-hmm. I'm doing it. Hillary asks, any golf shoe recommendations for Father's Day? My husband and I have been listening for the show for years. Love you guys. Okay. I will say this.
Starting point is 00:43:12 There is no better shoe than the Footjoy premiere. Okay? Just go old school, get him a nice, you can't go wrong with the all white ones. Make sure that they have screwing spikes. Don't have the ones that are just like built in spikes because those don't last as long. The Footjoy premieres will last longer than the insoles will last if you keep them shined up and everything. I would say either get white ones. You can't go wrong with the white ones.
Starting point is 00:43:39 Can't go wrong with all black ones. or you can't go wrong with like the old school bucks that are like white with the black trim on the in the middle issue. Anyways, Footjoy premieres, they're classic. They're never going to go out of style. You're such a dork.
Starting point is 00:43:55 I know. Matt got fitted for golf clubs last week, apparently. Really? Yeah. God, I can't, those must be broomsticks. I guess so, yeah. But maybe he'll be hitting the club with you soon.
Starting point is 00:44:07 I would love to have him. Yeah. How does that work? Do you fly with golf clubs when you go to, Florida? Yeah. You do. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:14 You can get rental clubs, but they suck because they're not, they're not like, the heat is went and got fitted, you know? So like they're not for you. So it's, it's, if I go on vacation somewhere and I might play golf once, then I'll just go and rent huge rental clubs. But if I'm going there and like I know you've got a couple rounds, like it's a thing, I will always travel with them. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:33 Yeah. And if you want a, okay, to that last listener, Hillary, if you want a fucking amazing gift, there is a travel. If your husband travels for golf a lot, there's a travel bag made by club glove. It's got wheels in the bottom, but then also has wheels that pop out. It's the most well-made piece of freaking luggage I've ever seen. I can pull it around. Golf clubs are heavy, right?
Starting point is 00:44:57 Like 50 pounds. I can pull it around with my pinky finger. It's insanely good piece of product. If your husband is a golfer, this travel bag is the best thing I've ever experienced that. And then also if you want to get a... How much does that run you? It's like 350. To be honest with you, not that much more expensive than the shoes I suggested.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Yeah, not horrible. No. I can do a lot of golf gift ideas. You want to get in something... Oh, I'm sure. The titleless links legend bag is great. It's a leather bag that is very stylish. And you can never go wrong with that.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Stylish, huh? Men have very few things that they can get dressed up for these days. Like, we've gotten rid of balls and gala, you know? So what do we have? We have golf. And it's like the only thing that we, You guys have cool purses. That's what our cool purses is,
Starting point is 00:45:46 is just a golf bag. Okay, okay, yeah. Greer says, question for Brandi. I'm headed to Franklin, June 18th on a girls trip. We will be at reunion stay, if you're familiar with it. I haven't been in seven years.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Is frothy monkeys still all the rage? Any cafes or shops you recommend or anything else to do? I prefer indoor activities, LOL, love YFT. And sorry we're stoned. Frothy Monkey is still alive and well in downtown Franklin. So if you loved it then, you'll love it now.
Starting point is 00:46:17 So that'd be a good stop. I always tell anyone going to Franklin a vacation to check out South Hall. It's like a really beautiful like newish hotel. But it's like a destination hotel. Like they have cabins and there's a ton of property. They have their own greenhouse and the restaurants are amazing. They have an incredible spa. Like it's gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:46:38 It's like if you want to stay there, great. even if you just go for the day and do like the spot or just go for dinner, it's so great. And if you catch like a nice day, they have like this big pond and you can go for a walk and just beautiful out there. So I would suggest South Hall for sure. Leepers Fork, I guess it's cute to walk around. It's not really an indoor activity. But if you want to walk around Leapers, there's some really cute shops and antique stores, things like that.
Starting point is 00:47:01 There's also the Leepers Fork distillery. Have you ever been there? No. Oh, it's great. A little whiskey distillery. And they have a really cute outdoor bar. and like a lounge area. So again, if it's a nice day, like, it's really fun to go and do like happy hour at the
Starting point is 00:47:16 distillery. You can get tours if you want it. What's the factory in Franklin? Is that still a thing? Yeah, the factory. That's inside. Yeah. And it's actually getting cooler.
Starting point is 00:47:23 It really is. They have, again, like a couple really great restaurants. I love two hands. That's our favorite in that. And I go a lot to two hands. And then they do have some shops. If you go early enough before they close, I'd say they probably close like five or six. But, yeah, cute to like walk around in there.
Starting point is 00:47:38 You can get Jenny's ice cream in the factory. You can get five daughters bakery. At least barbecue is in there. There is a lot of good stuff in the factory. Okay. Another outdoor one. But Harlinsdale farm is also beautiful. It's a cross from the factory.
Starting point is 00:47:50 It's where they have pilgrimage festival. But nice to go for a walk, take a picnic. If you have dogs, they have like tons of the off-leash dog park and trails and stuff with the dogs as a part of the Harpeth River. Like creek runs through the back. It's really cool, too. Oh, is Blackberry farms in Franklin? It's not in Franklin, but it's not super far.
Starting point is 00:48:09 I've never been, but I've heard incredible things. Yeah, can you just go there for dinner? I'm sure you can't be make a reservation, but I don't know. I know a lot of people get married there. Yeah. Like a big wedding venue. Yeah, supposed to be gorge. But South Hall is in Franklin and it's similar.
Starting point is 00:48:23 It's like similar. Okay. It's cool. I got some tunage. You want me? You want me play some tunage? Sure. This is Hudson Freeman.
Starting point is 00:48:30 If you know me, this is a demo that I was digging on. Some sad basher music right there. If you know me, like you say you do. Hudson Furreman. This Scooby Carrook. Scooby by Carouk. Digged on that. Chance Pena. This is
Starting point is 00:49:37 the Voyager. And last one. I played this guy before. His name is Josiah in the Bonnevilles and has a new record out and this is a song called Carolina Hart. That's really good. I was working for her dad in Charlotte. I never saw a sing.
