Welcome to Your World Within Daily. I'm Eddie Panero.
And in this episode, we're going to talk about how to approach progress, not looking externally,
but simply looking at how to be better than you were yesterday.
In life, you are your greatest ally and your greatest opponent.
And it's important to decide how to arrange the pieces in front of you because that greatly determines which side you.
you're leaning on. Are you helping yourself or are you, you know, getting in your own way?
That's what I'm going to talk about today. I got a question from Anurag. He says, Eddie, I was just
listening to your today's podcast. I have a question that's related to it and it's how do you or anyone
get in the mentality of looking inward and trying to be better than your past self? I've struggled
with accepting that mentality. We mean a lot if you could speak about it on your next podcast.
Well, my first instinct is awareness.
What is it that I want, right?
If you're talking about being better than you were yesterday, in what, right?
So defining your goals and what you're looking for and what would make you happy to achieve.
And then it's a compare and contrast, you know, it's sitting down in the morning, you know, being grateful for what you have, first of all.
Because if you're not grounded in some type of gratitude, it's very tough to ever be content, right?
But it's looking back and saying, all right, yesterday, here's what I did and here's what was great.
And here's what really isn't moving me towards that goal.
And today, you know, planning out things that do, that do move you forward that are important.
It's essential to remember that big things happen over a series of small steps.
I always pound that message, you know, into the work that I do because we get.
get discouraged simply when we want to leap an entire mountain overnight. Or we're looking at other
people and we want what they have now. Or we want to be something now. And it's almost like you
don't see the little steps that build that, right? It's a work in progress. I had a coach that would say,
sometimes success is merely hanging on when others are letting go. Like sometimes the one who wins or
achieves or does great things, simply keeps taking little step after little step.
And if you're talking being better than you were yesterday, that doesn't happen a leap at a time.
It happens one little step at a time.
It happens by being aware of who you are now, what you did yesterday and taking one little
step forward.
Now, an important thing to note is you don't dwell on yesterday.
And that's huge because you can get stuck mentally.
You'll start feeling like someone you're not.
I mean, it's not a good road to go down.
What you want to do is, you know, when you have a bad day or a good day, technically, right?
You take what you can from it and you release it.
You know, if you made a mistake or something didn't go right, you sit down, you think about it,
you take the pieces that will help you moving forward and you push it away.
It's gone.
past. You are the present. You will always be the present. You're never defined by yesterday.
So we learn and we move on. So that's important. And then of course along the way, you know,
you stay fixated on your path. Because again, we pull out our phones and I forget how many times
we do it a day on average, but it's a lot. And what we see when we open these apps is how
great everyone else's life is. And if you couldn't catch or you didn't pick up on that sarcasm,
it's there, I promise, right? Everyone's trying to paint this beautiful, rosy picture of how good things are.
And oh, so we must get that. We want that then. I want to be like him or her. One, that's a facade. And two,
it has nothing to do with you. It has nothing to do with being better than you were yesterday.
It's nothing to do with the little step you need to take.
It's just noise.
So, Anurag, that would be my answer.
One is awareness.
Understand what you want.
Understand what you did yesterday.
What was helpful?
What wasn't?
And what you need to do today.
And if you can do that every day,
you will be better because you will take a little step.
A little step forward.
You will learn from yesterday
and you will implement those little learnings into
your journey. You won't be looking at what other people have done because that really doesn't matter.
It really doesn't affect your life. You'll stay in your lane and do what's important for you and your
well-being and your happiness and your goals, you know, and have the patience and the persistence to chip
away a little at a time. All right. So if this podcast is helpful, if it's adding value, I'd greatly
appreciate for you to rate and review. Helps me get it out to the world. And that is my goal. So grateful for
that and keep marching onward one step one day at a time you will be amazed where you end up
see you tomorrow
