Welcome to Your World Within Daily. I'm Eddie Pinero.
And in this episode, I'm going to answer a question from a listener about overcoming the anxiety and fear of starting something new and instead begin building momentum.
All right, happy Friday.
I hope everyone's had an amazing week.
And we can kick this day off with some value here.
So I'm going to dive right into it.
This is a message from Frankie on Instagram.
He says, hey, Eddie, just wondering, how does one defy?
that mental block one has of thinking they aren't good enough or they beat themselves up.
But they can't stop thinking of something they want to work on so bad.
Just keep putting themselves down.
My example, I want to start a podcast and I have episode ideas, but something holds me back from
recording because I think it won't be good enough for anyone or no one will listen.
So right out of the gate, right?
That's a very, very common thing.
It's nothing more.
I'm going to begin with this premise. It's nothing more than the story you're telling yourself.
As long as we're all on the same page here, our lives and our realities are simply stories we're
telling ourselves in our heads about ourselves, about other people, about how other people see us,
about how other people see the world. None of it's real. It's all manufactured. Right. And so what
we're going to attempt to do in this six or seven minutes is rewrite that story because it's wrong.
And it's holding you back and you're stagnant because of it, obviously, right?
So how do we get around that?
I'm going to bullet it into three things, right?
I think we learn better in threes.
The first thing is confidence.
And I speak to this all the time.
One of my favorite quotes, one of the most important quotes I've ever come across,
confidence is earned.
And that was in Ryan Holiday's book, Ego is the enemy, a little at a time.
Right now, you haven't learned to trust yourself in this arena, right?
You don't believe in yourself enough that it outweighs the fear.
And you're stopping because you're thinking, you know, in the context of the things you consume,
the Joe Rogans, the Gary Vee podcast, obviously this one, you know, a lot of these podcasts that have been around.
They have bigger followings and you're thinking, man, I'm not going to be Joe Rogan by Wednesday.
Why would people listen to what I have to say?
I'm going to be talking into a microphone, and no one's going to care.
But you have to remember, you don't need to be Joe Rogan by next Wednesday, right?
Like I said on yesterday's podcast, all you have to do is be a little better than you were the day before.
That's it.
And anyone can do that.
All you have to do is take a step.
It doesn't matter if anyone's listening.
It doesn't matter who you compare to.
And I'm not being, you know, that's not cliche.
I mean, that's the reality.
You really need to look at this as you.
You're in a race with you.
That's it.
And I was reading the 12-week year by Brian Moran, and I came across something.
I'm not going to pull it up here that I thought was valuable.
If anything, it just kind of reinforces the fact that this is a process.
Everyone at some point deals with what you're going through right now in some capacity.
It's just, again, it's retelling the story.
It's reworking some things to get beyond it.
right so um he calls it the emotional cycle of change so five steps everyone goes through these things right
the first one's uninformed optimism and that's when it's like you know you're like oh i can have a podcast
and you sit back and you're dreaming and you're thinking about you know sitting behind a desk pouring your
heart out um you know having viewers having you know all that good stuff and you're like yes that's amazing
i'm in the second one's informed pessimism and this may be where you are it's like oh but a lot goes
into that and you're realizing, you know, how much needs to happen and how far you need to go.
And it's almost like the rubber's hitting the road, right? And then there's the Valley of Despair,
which is step three, and people are like, you know, that's when it becomes so tough that people
leave because there's no validation, there's no reward for the work and things just seem too far away.
Then there's informed optimism when things finally start paying off and then success when you've
officially established yourself.
And the reason I'm saying that is because, you know, you are somewhere along that spectrum,
understand it's a spectrum.
That's all.
That's all it is.
Right.
So it's about building momentum.
It's about earning that confidence.
So what do you do?
Again, we're not being Joe Rogan by next week.
Today, if you don't know how to learn how to record audio, learn how to record audio.
Tomorrow, set up the equipment.
Sunday.
create a Libson account to house your stuff. Monday, record your opening episode. Talk about why it's
important to you, right? You can do these little things one day at a time. It's manageable. Not only that,
you'll feel good about it. And you look back in a week, even a week, truly, seven days, and you'll go,
wow, right? This is really happening. This is the real deal. But it's just breaking that down into
those small pieces. And you got to remember, if you're sharing things that matter to you,
that's what's important. That is the most important thing. And if it matters to you,
it'll matter to other people. Right. There's eight billion people almost in the world.
Someone needs what you're giving. It's fact. People need what you have to say.
Now, the delivery mechanism, how you say it, will be hit or miss, right?
Maybe you'll swing and miss, you know, I did.
Everyone does.
That's where you adjust, right?
That's where you say, oh, maybe I'll change up my delivery.
Maybe I'll change up the show.
Maybe I'll make it shorter.
Maybe I'll make it longer.
I mean, that's the process.
That's fun.
That stuff comes as it happens.
You know, you adjust over time.
Your goal is not to be perfect, and you have to remember that.
your goal is every day to define one little thing you can do for this podcast and do it.
It's over time.
The accumulation of these steps will put you in a place you'll be very happy about and very proud of.
All right.
Now, the second big bucket, I talk about this all the time, because it helps us understand why we are the way we are.
There's nothing wrong with us.
There's comfort in knowing that every human being deals with these things, right?
Understand your physiology.
Your brain does not want to think about what this podcast can become.
It doesn't.
It doesn't want to think about, you know, how rewarding it's going to be, how it's going to change your life.
Your brain doesn't care about that.
It wants to scream over and over again about the things that can go wrong, right?
We're wired to avoid pain.
not to pursue greatness, we're wired to avoid the rustling in the bushes behind us.
And so being cognizant of that helps you, you know, establish the, let's say, the discipline,
the confidence to step away despite that, right? And then the last thing I'll leave you with
is don't think about the results.
It's a funny thing.
It's counterintuitive.
It's like when you don't think about the results they come.
When you have fun, when you love it, you succeed.
Because that's when you provide the most value.
That's when you do what you feel is right.
And people know that, they understand that, and they enjoy that.
If you're only thinking about listeners, I'll tell you right now you're going to fail.
If you're only thinking about monetization, you're going to fail.
about monetization, you're going to fail.
Why?
Because things are going to be hard at some point, right?
When you're in, as Brian Moran says, that step three, that valley of despair, and you're
putting out an episode every day and you're thinking, man, no one is listening to this.
Are you going to keep putting out episodes?
Or are you going to say, oh, I'll find some other way to make money?
This isn't worth it.
This sucks.
I've been there.
Every creator's been there.
difference is if you're going to succeed, you keep going. And that means you put aside the views.
It's okay that they're not here yet. You put aside the monetization on the podcast. It's okay.
It's not here yet. You love it. You have something to say and you keep saying it. Every day,
you show up. So let's not even think about what separates you from established podcast. It doesn't
matter. It's not our focal point here. Let's think about what seven days.
down the road will look like.
With a single step every day,
a methodical action and a decision,
that is how you build momentum.
And momentum changes your reality.
And Frankie, your question was about podcasts.
Well, you know, this applies to everything.
Obviously, I hope people understand that.
It's not just podcasting.
It's any pursuit.
And again, we're playing big picture here.
We're in it for the long haul.
Nothing good comes overnight.
If you remember that,
truly setting yourself up for success.
And man, I'm already at like 11 minutes here.
So I'm going to hang it up, let you guys enjoy your Friday.
I hope this helps.
And per usual, you know, if you're enjoying this, please take a second rate and review.
It truly helps me get this to more people and means a lot.
So other than that, go forth.
Make your magic.
I will catch you guys tomorrow.
