Starting point is 00:00:26 Discover coffee plus on nispresso.com. Today belongs to the architect. He sees towers before they pierce the sky, an opportunity before it transforms into the extraordinary. He knows that what he wants most cannot be given. It must be sculpted. So he builds. He builds because those skylines don't raise themselves from the earth,
Starting point is 00:01:19 the extraordinary does not appear on its own. They are dreamed into existence by the architects of reality, the ones who seek not to take from the world, but to contribute to it. Today is the beginning of something new, something better, something worth remembering. And it's existed long before the present moment waiting for your vision, your courage, your persistence to bring it to life.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Too many times we fail to reach into the realm of what we know and get more of ourselves. It's okay to struggle, to be wrong, to have to rebuild a thousand times, but the great tragedy is closing our eyes and walking by life's opportunity. Everything you need to rebuild the life you dream of is around you. Your every move. If only you'd reach for it, see it before your eyes do become the architect of change. Nothing is impossible when you are the one setting the rules, when your hand draws the guidelines.
Starting point is 00:02:44 You are not at the mercy of the world. You are creating it. This is yours. And there will never be a moment like it again. So don't run from it or hope life gives you what you want. Take the pieces in front of you and construct your masterpiece. Sometimes the inspiration doesn't come to you. No, sometimes you have to go out and find it.
Starting point is 00:03:35 When it hurts the most, when the deck seems to deck seems stacked against you when the road to travel seems to be longer than you can endure. These are the times we're tasked, not with waiting, but with creating. And those lows, they become highs because they force us to self-assess to look around and say, I don't want to feel this way anymore. I'm done tolerating X, accepting, why, associating with Z, and so a bridge must be created to something. And your question is simply what's that something going to look like? Here's what's interesting.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Knowing what you don't want is often the beginning. It breathes life into a first step. Maybe you look up and you have no idea what step 2,000 or 3,000. thousand looks like and that's perfectly okay. You don't need to know exactly where you're headed, exactly what the top of the mountain will look like. What took me forever to figure out is knowing that here isn't right for you, wherever here is, is enough because it is the beginning. The engine that makes it all work. You don't. Don't owe explanations, apologies aren't required of you.
Starting point is 00:05:24 All you needed was that feeling in your stomach that more is out there and perhaps you've been depriving yourself of it. For a tad too long. You just need to leave scarcity behind and train your eyes to find the abundance you exist with him. The other day I saw a quick interview Tiger Woods was giving. And I'm not really a big golf guy, but when the greats talk, I listen. And those who have been following him know that he's had kind of a rocky past, right? A very public, you know, family situation to injuries, surgeries, a recent car accident. And you can only want someone like that to rise from the ashes, right?
Starting point is 00:06:18 I feel like everyone's rooting for him to rediscover the dominance he once possessed. And basically in this interview, the interviewer's asking him about day one of the masters, where Tiger played well enough to make the cut. You know, he survived day one and was about to continue the tournament into the weekend, but it certainly wasn't the best golf he's ever played. And so upon reflecting on it, he says, and I'm paraphrasing, things aren't the way I'd like them to feel. But I've given myself a chance.
Starting point is 00:06:58 And I love the way that sounded. Not just because it came from a man who's been metaphorically battling uphill for what feels like some time now, but because it's how we all reemerged from our adversity. It doesn't matter what happened yesterday. Your past, all of it. The ups and downs, the bumps and bruises, they've all brought you here. And if life is one giant tournament, you've made the cut. You get to play in your masters.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Tomorrow is coming. And it brings with it the chance to write the ship. To discover the undiscovered, to find yourself again. By showing up today, you've given yourself a chance, and that is the most powerful thing one can possess a chance. I think too often we look at what we don't have. We spend our time focusing on the holes, the blank spaces, the gaps. Instead of looking at the opportunity we've created
Starting point is 00:08:15 to pivot wherever we deem necessary, the flexibility is the asset, but only valuable when we recognize and utilize it. And yeah, that can feel like a tall order when we are not at our best. When we're operating at a level that, let's say, is less than ideal. It's easy to see all the problems we're going through as supporting evidence that the world is bigger than us, that we are outmatched by life.
Starting point is 00:08:53 But really, all these things that have come together to create our current state, there are nothing more than life providing you a chance, an opportunity to turn the page. I'm a tiger, you know, those lows, those setbacks, and perhaps even the personal anguish, one would assume, would accompany those things. They've given him the gift of now. And he recognizes that. Just like everything that has paved the way for you has done the same.
Starting point is 00:09:37 It's created the conditions from which you can now grow, further evolve. It's providing a little nudge towards those things we need to do, but maybe sometimes drag our feet a little too long. So when the world throws you curveballs, How about seeing this situation as a chance to hit off speed, to step up to the plate and make something of what we thought was misfortune? When one trades, it's happening to me, for it's happening for me, you're presented advantages that were previously unavailable. They weren't there. And not because they didn't exist.
Starting point is 00:10:31 They weren't there because they weren't recognized. Because perhaps you saw the very thing that could help you as the thing that would hurt you. But regardless, here you are. Sharpened by the mistakes you made and shaped by the lessons you learned, you are here. Not to relive the past, but to relive the past, but to, Create a new reality, write a new chapter, walk a new path, you are here. And wherever next happens to be, let it unfold because you chose it. Let it evolve because it's who you are.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Leave the stands and make your way to the stage. We're sure the stakes are higher, but so is the upside. I often talk about the power of looking over our shoulders at those highs and lows from time to time. Not because they have power over us, but because they have made us powerful. Look at all you've endured. See all that you've overcome. And for what? Well, to put it simply for the gift currently actually actually.
Starting point is 00:12:05 your fingertips. The chance to say years from now, that sure you lost yourself, things became chaotic, confusing, convoluted, maybe you were unsure,
Starting point is 00:12:20 maybe at times you even felt alone, but those times, the same times that could have kept you down, instead reminded you what you were capable of becoming. You don't get the light
Starting point is 00:12:39 at the end of the tunnel without walking through the darkness. And so to remember that that all this has unfolded to bring about something beautiful on the other side, well, that just might be the perspective that you've needed,
Starting point is 00:12:57 that you've left behind. The world will only give you what you ask for. And so right here, right now instead of accepting a continuation of your past how about demanding an evolution of yourself
Starting point is 00:13:20 that game of life awaits and so for your sake and the world don't be afraid to play this episode is brought to you by Peory so a lot of you know about my love for endurance sports and as my training
Starting point is 00:13:56 in that arena has increased. So it was my focus on health outside of the standard, you know, fitness and nutrition. And omega-3s have been a big part of that. Now, Peori as a company, is exceptional in a lot of areas. A lot of the things we regularly take, the collagen, the creatine, the protein powder. But specifically, because of inflammation in my lower body, I've been relying on their omega-3s and just really integrated them into my lifestyle. Peoria's O3 fish oil gives you a high dose of 1,250 MGs, EPA, 500 MGs, DHA. Omega-3s are also great for brain health and just long-term cardiovascular performance. Every single bottle they put out is tested for over 200 different kinds of contaminants.
Starting point is 00:14:42 And if you look at each bottle, there's a little QR code here where you can scan it and it'll give you the information on the tests of that particular batch. Each batch is IFOS certified for freshness and purity. It gets five out of five stars so you know you're getting fresh, high quality fish oil. Starting point is 00:15:21 There was a point a handful of years back. where I had one of the most important breakthroughs of my lifetime. And I've talked about this with people close to me, family and friends, to clients, business associates. And it seems like there's a commonality amongst all of us. And maybe, depending on the person that happened in a different way, certainly at different times. But everyone at one point or another comes face to face with the realization
Starting point is 00:15:52 that they have a tremendous amount of control over their lives. And it's at that moment, you know, where one becomes empowered. It's like you realize you have the key to the cell you've been locked in this whole time. And at that moment, one is prompted to ask, well, why not start living like it? You know, there will always be responsibility and sacrifice in life. But that awareness makes one ask, well, what am I sacrificing for? Where am I going? Am I spending time with people that lift me up?
Starting point is 00:16:39 Am I doing things that contribute to a greater vision? And perhaps most importantly, am I even living a life that is true to myself? Because I'll tell you something. Our time here flies by. Not only will next month, next year, next decade be here before you know it, but it's not even guaranteed. And if one doesn't take the time to look in the mirror and ask the tough questions, life will keep on ticking.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Time will not stop. No one's going to walk up to you and point out the fact that you're just going through the motions here. No, that one's on you. you have to see that this world can become what you decide it will be that you are presented the tools but tools require an architect and a creator tools require someone in seeing what is not yet there to pick them up and build and so maybe this is the time for you to ask what am I building Where am I going?
Starting point is 00:17:52 When my day starts, both feet hit the ground and I walk out the door. What am I moving? Maybe today is the day you realize that there are parts of your life that don't need to be there, that you can cut away. People that don't deserve your time, that don't elevate you or contribute to your well-being. Maybe there are places you're going because that's where you're going. you've always gone, things you're doing because that's what you've always done. But you don't need to live life on repeat.
Starting point is 00:18:32 If you're not happy about it, how about doing something to change it? There is nothing in your life that can't be adjusted or altered. Just like yesterday is now a story, so is the idea that you are confined to a specific set of parameters. Break down those walls. See things not as they are, but as they can be if you have the courage to walk away from old stories and characters. What if today you created a new ending, one that lights you up in the morning, contributes to your sense of purpose when you close your eyes at night? Again, remember, no one will come up and hand that to you.
Starting point is 00:19:21 No one will let you know you're selling yourself short. That transformation must be internally prompted. And so I hope you'll ask. I hope you'll ask the questions that you've been neglecting for far too long. I hope today can be the first page in an entirely new chapter. A chapter in a story that is truly an entirely yours. Every run tells a tale. All those streets, sidewalks, and paths, paint a picture. Each footstep enshrines forever a moment in time that comes together to comprise the now. For my time in
Starting point is 00:20:40 Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It was asking, why not? Why not find out if I could be a little faster than yesterday? My first dance with the clock. Waking up early, running up Snake Pond Road, sun shining in my face, inhaling that crisp morning air. It was running along the canal, where the distance was precisely mapped out in paint on the ground below, tattooing a path that seemed to go for as long as I wanted to push forward. It taught me that we could do amazing things when we decided to, that we have more in us than we could ever imagine. In a sense, Cape Cod was my eyes opening up to the idea that what life gives us,
Starting point is 00:21:39 is directly correlated to what we ask of ourselves. So ask for a lot. In Boston, it was exploration. It was pushing myself harder and further. But also stretching my worldview wider, a time for transformation. It was beginning to see the mundane, the commonplace for the wolves in sheep's clothing that they are. I began exploring city street, like I simultaneously began exploring life's possibility. I saw how taking new routes often came with two distinct components.
Starting point is 00:22:25 One, an unsettling, nervous feeling in my stomach, and two, an eventual gratitude for finding the courage to go there. The world will never tell you to go where you have not yet gone. It will never assign you a map and hand you back. keys, a plane, or a bus ticket. That desire must be cultivated internally. Boston was me realizing the unknown wasn't a border keeping me in. It was a hand extended. In Roanoke, Virginia, it was in a sense a rebirth. Moving away post-college. Everything was new, was foreign, but everything was exciting. I had to learn who I was in new surroundings with new people.
Starting point is 00:23:15 My Nike running shoes took me through woods, downside streets, into the heart of downtown. I ran and I ran and I ran. Because with all that change, it was one of the few constants in my life. It brought me to the realization that with so many moving pieces, so many things shuffling in and out, there are parts of me that are non-negotiable.
Starting point is 00:23:43 that in life it's okay and even necessary to change, but one should never lose themselves in that process. They call Roanoke the Star City of the South, for the giant glowing star that lights up on the mountain overlooking the city. Perhaps a reminder to never lose that North Star in our own lives. In South Florida, it was about connecting the dust. thought that had been relentlessly doing, now it was seeing, seeing myself as that person, as someone ready for more, worthy of a spot at the table capable of creating monumental change.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Those soft sand runs reinforce the notion that I get stronger when the world moves under my feet. hundreds of thousands of footsteps under the hot sun reiterated that I'm willing to do what is often deemed unnecessary or even over the top. And lastly, living in the luxury of no winter reminded me to appreciate the sun, the perks, the advantages and the victories we collect along the way, but to never take them for granted, to be ready. Because life's winters don't always wait until after, fall to show up at your doorstep. See, every step we take is a lesson. Every street, sidewalk, and
Starting point is 00:25:22 path is part of a story. And sometimes we don't understand until we look back at the chapters. We don't get it until we have the luxury of hindsight. I didn't know that I looked back on Snake Pond Road as sacred ground as a launch pad to everything that would come next. No, in the moment, it was nothing more than a temporary escape from a world that felt bigger than me. I didn't know I'd see the city of Boston as the place that taught me to question the normalcy of everyday life, to show me that one could be moving awfully fast and still going nowhere at all. No, in the moment, it was merely a decision to dip my toe in the water, to entertain the curiosity and sense of adventure that always seemed a few feet ahead.
Starting point is 00:26:23 I had no idea Roanoke, Virginia would be where I learned that, as Emerson said, to be yourself in a world constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment, that there are non-negotiables, and shining down above all the noise and intricacies of everyday life exists the path and the reason. sources to become who you were meant to be. No, in the moment I was simply stepping off my branch and landing somewhere new. I didn't know South Florida would be my consistent reminder to level up, to hold tightly that intersection of love and value, to find gratitude for what I have and
Starting point is 00:27:09 maintain faith in bringing about what has not yet materialized. No, at the time, I was taking my life, my business, and my running shoes to warmer weather. You may not see it now. But your path, the one that led you to today, is the right path. You are exactly where you need to be for the beginning of your next adventure. But here's the thing. You. You must keep lacing up your shoes.
Starting point is 00:27:43 Keep getting up in the morning and chasing those sunrises. Keep dreaming, growing. Keep your eyes, ears, and heart open. Because the world has so much to give you. But you have to allow your feet to carry you there. You have to give yourself permission to take it all in. The normalcy of right now, down the road will end up being anything but normal.
Starting point is 00:28:14 these steps are the steps that make you who you are, so own them. Believe in them and most importantly, keep taking them. I've been spending a lot of time in nature this summer. In one thing that became quickly apparent when I'm running, hiking, rucking, or filming, food can easily become an afterthought. You either end up paying way too much for something mediocre or you grab whatever's convenient and just kind of hope for the best. But this summer, I found a different solution that I want to talk to you about.
Starting point is 00:28:57 And that's Huell Black Edition. I've talked a little bit about it in the past, getting creative with it, you know, using it for French toast in the morning if I have some time. But it's really been the fuel behind my outdoor summer adventures. It mixes really well with water and milk in about 30 seconds. It provides 40 grams of protein, 27 essential vitamins and minerals, no artificial sweeteners, colors, or flavors. What I like most is that it's not just a drink on top of a meal.
Starting point is 00:29:28 It's a complete meal designed to replace one, which makes life a lot easier when I'm traveling or spending the full day out on the trail. And when I'm really in a hurry, I'll grab one of the ready to drink bottles, which costs less than five bucks, which is way better than paying $30 for a meal out on the road. So if that sounds like something you'd use, check out Huell. That's H-U-E-L. customers can get 15% off online with my code eddy at huell.com slash eddy. That's huel.com
Starting point is 00:29:59 slash eddy. Thanks to huel for partnering with and supporting the podcast. Remember what's yours to control and what's not what must be let go. Remember that nothing is so futile as attempting to move the immovable or change the unchangeable. Remember that your greatest strength is focusing your time, talent, and efforts, exhausting your energy on that which you can control. And sometimes this distinction hurts. But to fail to see it is to shackle oneself to delusion. Right? You can complain about the weather all day, but to complain about it, to focus on it, to be stuck.
Starting point is 00:30:58 in it is not going to change it. Your time would be better suited looking at how to adjust yourself to it. And that's what life repeatedly tells us. There's plenty we aren't happy about, plenty we wish we could change. But to stay there in that space is to forfeit your greatness, your strength. Why? Because there is so much you can control, so much you can do. You can always position yourself to succeed. But that calls for first separating what's yours and what's not. If there are people I wish were different, there are situations I prayed were alterable, there are outcomes that are given without my asking. That's just life. And a losing mentality is to fight that, to feel anger or resentment at the people that lets you down.
Starting point is 00:32:05 Why couldn't they be how I want them to be? It's to dwell on the situation that occurred despite your wishes. Why couldn't it have just happened my way? It's to refuse to acknowledge the outcomes that have already materialized. Why couldn't it just have evolved differently? differently. All that, as hard as it is to see, is embracing a mentality of victimhood. It's walking down a path that has no desirable destination in store for you. When you accept the unchangeable, you then become the architect of your reality.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Sure, people, places, and outcomes weren't always the best, but now you ask, how can I navigate around it, or better yet, use it to my advantage. It is, to use the famous metaphor, not shaking your fist at the wind, but building sails for your boat, creating a path to take you somewhere new. So let the energy, the time, and emotion that's wasted on the immovable dissolve. The question worth asking is, where do you? you most want to be and how can you get there? And while those details outside the scope of your control can feel like a bottomless gap in your way,
Starting point is 00:33:39 I promise that what's around you is enough to build a bridge over it. There's enough there for you to find your way. So long as we learn to separate the gap from the bridge, the details from the solutions, when all you see is why you can't go or how it can't be solved or how impossible something is. It's not that you are looking at an unfortunate truth. It's that you are looking at the wrong supporting evidence. When we stop seeing the details and outside circumstances as the deciders of fate, we win. When we place our eyes upon the controllable,
Starting point is 00:34:25 When we step into what is ours to move and shape and transform, we finally see that the journey to something bigger is not only possible, it is inevitable. Goodbyes are tiny beginnings. Sunsets. They grant a very special kind of permission. A green light to take all the value and the beauty, all the life, lived and carry it into tomorrow, which sounds easy enough. But then again, on paper, so does running a marathon or climbing Mount Everest. And I'd wonder, how could something be painful and transformative?
Starting point is 00:35:45 How could something break me and be good for me? It's not hard to see the dissonance there, right? Here's the thing. Oddly enough, that seemingly paradoxical experience is consistent. Consistent throughout our lives appearing every time we grow. Our darkest moments feel like endings, perhaps because we're hanging on to what was the ideas that felt like home. But in actuality, those moments, those goodbyes, are already the beginning of something new. The same way midnight sparks the beginning of a new calendar day right in the heart of darkness,
Starting point is 00:36:40 unbeknownst to us while the world is turned off and our minds are asleep. A hello in disguise. When we said goodbye, my heart immediately declared war on my mind. Why? Because her not being there didn't make sense. Because when you care about something you fight for that thing, because goodbyes, well, they signify change. And I liked this chapter. But my brain fired right back.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Right idea. Just wrong time. What's the reality of this situation? Did you ask yourself that? It said, letting go can be the hardest thing and the right thing simultaneously that I should know the rules. And so goodbyes were said, and sons, they said. And we went to sleep in separate beds, not knowing anything about the future, except that it would be different. Way different than today.
Starting point is 00:37:56 And immediately in comes the heart. Picks up the mic, tap, tap, is this thing on, check one, two. hey, make sure you're aware of what's gone. Make sure you spend your time thinking about what you don't have. See the blank pages they used to have writing. You see the empty space that used to be occupied. Make sure you shine that spotlight on what was once there. Oh, it's empty?
Starting point is 00:38:29 How does that make you feel? asks the heart. Then the door opens, in comes the brain, the pragmatist, more direct, certainly more matter of fact. Says, hey, time to move. You have things to build and places to go. You can't let that blood pumping organ get in the way of what really matters here. Lace up your shoes. Open the door, go make a name for yourself, kid. Go be that guy. You get what you focus on, remember? Focus on the reality, the process, the analytics, data doesn't lie. Your heart does, though.
Starting point is 00:39:14 I let them fight it out for a few. Our desire for faction so deeply ingrained that I feel like I'm looking down at myself while my right half fights my left half. How best do we go forward here? Right, wrong, yes, no. stop, go, before realizing, like so many things the truth hides in the gray space. Maybe in an obtuse way, they both want the same thing. The truth is it hurts because change hurts, but that doesn't mean I've lost more than I've gained.
Starting point is 00:39:54 It doesn't mean that yesterday's memories won't impact the minutes that make up tomorrow. Nothing is disappearing into thin air here. This isn't a magic trick. The time spent doesn't suddenly become meaningless. No, it comes along because I'll continue to move along and those moments are now me. So recalibrate. Acknowledge that. When I watch a movie, see a concert, go on a breathtaking hike, run up the coast in the morning.
Starting point is 00:40:39 are experiences that take me somewhere beyond the physical. Their peak experiences. But they are not forever. And interestingly enough, upon their completion, they're not quite gone either. They make a little home for themselves somewhere in the soul, like a candle that as small as it might burn
Starting point is 00:41:05 is never truly extinguished, a light to help God. the way forward. And so when we find ourselves in the dark, how powerful that we remember to reach for it. As the saying goes, you have everything you need. And you do because of everywhere you've been
Starting point is 00:41:27 and everyone that's helped keep your soul ablaze. You are the continuation of the best story ever written. And no hero makes it. on his own. And so that night, I decided to mix things up a bed. Sit under the bright lights of the South Florida sky, glistening pieces of wisdom that share for free. And the moon, that moon, which I recently learned we can only see because the sun's light reflects off of it. Perhaps they knew each other in a previous life. But me, I got in my car, drove out to the beach, a nice change of scenery, figured it would be a real treat to hear myself think, to find clarity. Climmed up onto a
Starting point is 00:42:29 lifeguard stand, let my feet dangle over the edge, and just looked out, watched the waves crash on the sand. The clock would strike midnight soon, and, and I just looked out. The clock would strike midnight soon, and while the world slept, I would be given a brand new day. And what a relief, because the previous one was painful, the previous one hurt, the previous one broke me. But as I sat there, waves crashing, feet dangling, I was starting to feel like those little pieces just might come together to comprise something meaningful. As Hemingway put it, the world breaks everyone. And afterward, many are strong at the broken places.
Starting point is 00:43:17 Well, under those stars, I felt like I could be strong. Like once again, I could be anything, and the heart and the head can bicker all they want. But they're saying the same things just through each other. One sees what's no longer there, the other sees what's next, and that's what goodbyes do. force us to look around and realize what we've become as we start the next journey. Eyes a little wider.
Starting point is 00:43:51 Soul shining a little brighter. Because of her, because of me, because of the blank spaces, because of what will someday occupy them, because of what it all means. And just like that, midnight. Quiet, calm. those waves they crashed and they crashed and they crashed celebrating the new day they've certainly been here before and they'll be here tomorrow long after i come and go and in a way my impermanence is what makes the now so precious why it all matters
Starting point is 00:44:38 why the sun and moon conspire to shine light on this very lifeguard stand at this very moment in time reminding me that down is not out, wandering is not lost, that I am stronger than I've ever been. And sometimes it takes a goodbye to remind us.
