every day starts at zero.
That means every morning when you wake up and you open your eyes and you take in the room and the light and the world around you, it is a chance to begin again.
And why this has been so important for me, why I believe so much in this concept is because people tend to latch on to yesterday.
to what others thought of them yesterday, to what they thought of themselves yesterday,
that idea, that manifestation of the road you've taken,
and it distracts us from what can be.
The wake of the boat will never steer the boat.
It doesn't matter.
If you have a boat going through the water, that trail that leaves behind in the water,
there's nothing to do with where it's going next, right?
brought it there has nothing to do with where it will be tomorrow.
Yesterday could have been the most beautiful sunny day in the world,
or it could have been hell, it could have been storms, it could have been tragedy.
But guess what?
The hands on the steering wheel determine where the thing goes next.
And I'll tell you why that's so liberating.
You're not bound to yesterday.
You're reminded of the present moment, the power in the now.
You're in control.
And almost like yesterday's episode, I think of a micro and a macro level for this.
You know, the micro being the basketball spinning on your finger.
Like that you need to keep tapping it or it'll lose momentum and it will fall off your finger.
Every day, no matter what happened yesterday, starts at zero.
It needs that tap.
It needs that spin.
It needs to continue and you are the force that allows it to do so.
And I love that because it makes me less fearful of losing.
I know it's part for the course.
I know tomorrow when I wake up it's a blank slate to learn from what happened and start over.
But also to stay grounded, to never stay too high on a win or something good that happened.
To me, it's that perfect leveling out of, you know, what brought you here, brought you here great.
Here's your situation.
You're at zero today.
Go get to 100.
Go do your thing.
Brand new start.
And then at the macro level, it's who you are.
Being tied to yesterday.
Being tied to ideas.
Human beings, remember this rule, this concept.
If you're aware of it, you will change the way you look at yourself in the world.
Human beings always follow through on who they believe.
themselves to be always I've been talking about stories right on my YouTube
channel on Spotify my speeches for years because stories are the crux of everything
they are what it is to be human our lives are just the culmination of the
stories we tell period if you're telling yourself you are a smoker and you're
trying to quit, it's going to be very difficult because that's how you identify.
If your self-narrative is that you're someone that always gets things done, if you truly
believe that you rise to the occasion and you find what it takes to win, that's what you'll do.
We become who we think we are. And the point I'm trying to make is you had an idea of what
that was before you went to bed. And it carries with you in the morning when you open your eyes.
you can always recreate yourself, but you have to detach from that. You have to detach from the shadow.
You have to detach from the old person that you thought you were. And it's hard because of your habits,
because of others' expectations of you, people that don't want you to change, people thought you were a certain way.
But I love putting things simply. And so I'll do it here.
every day when you wake up none of that has to follow you every day is a fresh start at the micro level
meaning yesterday's losses who cares you're better now start again detach remove yourself in the macro level
how you see yourself as a whole right i'm not a morning person i'm not a people person i'm not a
runner. What does that even mean? Those are stories that you're telling that it's their their identities
you've created that follow you like a shadow that don't mean anything. If you want to be a
morning person, set your alarm clock early and get used to getting up early. It doesn't take any
you know, outrageously high IQ to do that. But these self-defeating narratives hold us back and
they don't have to. They don't have to. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. You are behind the
wheel. You are looking forward. And where you go is entirely up to you. So I hope this gives you
something to think about. Have an amazing day, guys. And I wanted to quickly ask you as well,
if you enjoy this podcast, if you're getting value from it, I'd greatly
appreciate you rating it and reviewing it in the Apple app, the podcast app. There's this thing that I'm
