Welcome to your world within daily. I'm Eddie Panero. Happy Saturday. In this episode, we're going to talk about the difference between have to and get to and how a slight adjustment and how you look at the world around you changes everything. Have to versus get to. I have to do something. I have to do something implies a few things. It implies that you do not have control over what you are.
we're doing, and there's also an implied sense of obligation. I have to go to the store.
I have to go to work. I have to prepare for an exam versus get to, right? The joy of life.
I get to go to the store. I get to go to work. I get to study for an exam. These are all things
that a lot of people would kill to be able to do, right? And the idea is not to shame. The idea is to
help you remember how lucky you are to have the things that you have. Because everything we do,
right, our day to day, no matter what it is, it normalizes. It becomes the status quo and we stop
appreciating things that are incredible. I mean, ultimately, it comes down to gratitude. It comes down
to the one in 700 trillion odds of being here that I talk about so much. There's so much to be
grateful for. And it's funny, I notice these things when they're taken away. You know, the norm,
it's like you forget to appreciate it until they're gone from things as little as, you know,
the weather in Florida. A few months ago, I had a speaking engagement in Canada. It's like,
oh my God, you know, I've been down here for three years now. I've been starting to take it for granted.
That's incredible. Or I mentioned sometimes I get headaches, right? Your head hurts the next day you
realize, wow, I don't have a headache. This is.
incredible. This is liberating. This is freeing. I remember in college doing, you know,
2K testing on the urg. And, you know, I'd get off and I'd sit on the ground and I'd like,
this is just the most amazing thing to not be going through that. It wasn't until the chaos was
injected into my reality that, you know, you miss the calm and the serenity. You miss not being
in pain. You don't realize how great it is to just exist. And I,
I think life follows suit. It's a perfect metaphor. We have so much to be grateful for. Why wait until it's
taken away to acknowledge it? There are no half tos. You know, there's no reason to not appreciate what we
have until it's gone. And again, it's a human thing. Our world around us becomes normal and we just
become accustomed to it. That's all. We forget how great some of these things are. But,
the reality is life will always be how you look at it.
And I'd mention the situation right now, the quarantine, a lot of us have certainly lost a lot
and continue to.
But is there a win?
What do you get to do now that you didn't a few months ago?
And I know that's a hard question to ask.
Some of you might say that's insane, right?
But find the get to.
You get to be with your family.
You get a long time.
You get to refocus.
Seems crazy in the grand scheme of things it most certainly is not.
Right.
We don't have to do anything.
Life is not an obligation.
You always have the keys in your hand and you can go wherever you want to go.
And if you find yourself and have to either step back and realize the value that you
the beauty and the opportunity or change it. Because with one in 700 trillion odds, right,
getting up every day is a miracle in and of itself. Because with the societal and technological advances
we have in 2020, right, that have made our existence better than it's ever been in human history,
we have a lot to be grateful for, a lot to think about. So that's where I wanted to leave you on a
a beautiful Saturday morning here.
In your life, convert the half-toes to get-toes.
Change the things that you don't want to do
or that don't impact your life the way they should
because you can because you're in control.
Or change the way you look at them.
Because the reality is when they're gone,
you would miss them.
The reality is a lot of people would,
It would kill for what you have.
The reality is life is good.
And sometimes we just need to step back and see that bigger picture.
All right.
Have an amazing day, weekend, and I'll catch you guys tomorrow.
