Welcome to Your World Within Daily.
I'm Eddie Panero, and in this episode, I'm going to talk about the idea that the things around us,
the things we aren't happy with, the things we aren't content with,
and the things that we've simply accepted we've conceded to, don't have to be that way.
And the sooner we realize that, the better.
I'm going to tell you a story about sort of a light bulb going off in my head recently with regard to change,
with regard to being proactive about the life that I want
and hopefully give you guys something to use
to make your situation better, more conducive
to what you're trying to do.
So the other day, I had my laptop.
I was doing some work over at my friend Zach's house
and sitting on the counter,
or the laptops on the counter.
I'm sitting next to the counter.
and I start hearing this sledgehammer hit a wall.
And I'm thinking, what in God's name is going on?
Right?
So close the laptop, run down the hall, and Zach's standing there.
And he's just destroying part of his wall.
And I'm like, dude, what in God's name is going on?
Why are you doing?
And he's like, well, you know, I was looking around and I figured I could use more room for shoes.
And I just kind of stood there.
I looked at him, I'm like, with shoes, shoes.
So essentially, he realized that he wanted more closets in his room,
so he pulled a sledgehammer from the basement and created a closet.
And so probably not a big deal to some people to meet,
like that would just never cross my mind.
I'd never walk into a room and think, you know, this is great,
but, you know, you need to take that.
wall down it'd be like this either works or it doesn't right these are the parameters and i'm going to
live within them that's the way it works um and you know so i left the room and i open my laptop up
and i sit back down and i'm like this is um there's more here than meets the eye right it's it's
funny how from the mundane comes some of the most important things that we learn and
There are plenty of places in life where I have conceded to the initial structure, if you will,
the way things are where it hasn't crossed my mind, hey, where can I take a metaphorical sledgehammer to this thing and make it mine,
make it more conducive to what I need, to what I want.
And that's why there's so much power in being around that and people that think that way and push that way.
Now, for him, his whole house is like that.
It's like remade and he just tweaks it and changes things.
And it's a mentality that he implements into his day to day.
And, you know, I certainly do in some areas.
But like so many things, there's blind spots.
And the continuous reminder that you are existing instead of flourishing or living in a particular area,
that you have accepted life as is as opposed to what it can be.
It's important because you have the ability to take a sledgehammer to anything in your life and remake it.
Life is clay so long as you realize that you can mold it and shape it and change it to do what you want to do.
And that's why I thought that was such a powerful story.
and I'll play you a clip from Friday's video where I talk about hope, sort of being a two-part thing.
Like one, understanding it's possible, and then two, realizing that you have the power to make it happen.
Those two things hand in hand are, you know, an incredibly powerful combination.
So I hope you get something from the video.
And, you know, most importantly, as with all these these, these, these, these, these,
morning podcast.
Realize that you can change something in your life that you're not happy with.
Maybe, you know, it's a tap on the shoulder that you're sitting back and accepting something
is reality that doesn't need to be.
Understanding is step one.
So, hey, I hope this video helps you.
If it does, please rate, subscribe, review.
And, you know, grateful for that.
All right.
So here is hope.
Hope.
That bridge.
that connects the present to a more ideal world.
The idea that no obstacle is too big to overcome,
no situation too dire, to emerge victorious,
and that you are never confined to how things are.
FDR has said, we have always held to hope,
the belief, the conviction that there is a better life,
a better world beyond the horizon.
Why does this matter?
Well, to put it simply, before one can leave this situation they are in, they have to believe
there is another path worth taking.
It's not always seeing, but trusting.
It's a tale of two components.
One, the belief that something better is out there, and two, the belief that you are strong
enough to bridge that gap to create that world. So let's start with number one. There was a study
done by Kurt Richter in the 1950s and he used rats. And it was kind of a gruesome experiment,
but definitely worth talking about because the takeaway is incredible, right? And I kind of cherry-picked
the relevant parts of the experiment. Basically, he wanted to delve into the role that hope plays
in our lives.
And what he would do is he would drop rats into a jar of water and observe.
See how long they would swim before they'd drown.
And for the most part, these rats would swim for a minute or two and then ultimately give up.
There was this innate feeling of hopelessness.
But then he made a change and when they were close to drowning, he'd reach in, he'd pick them up,
he'd hold them for a little while.
And then he'd place them back in the water.
And the results between the two groups were night and double.
day, the rats saw in the second group that it wasn't over.
When they were placed back in the water, they had a reason to continue swimming, and they did.
Some of them did for hours.
The only difference being that they had hope.
They saw there was more.
And I don't think that's too different from us.
The situation may be different, but the rules generally apply.
Right?
So much of conceding or giving up in life.
accepting an existence that falls short of our ideals,
it's when we don't believe in something more.
We stop swimming.
You don't give ourselves a chance.
Right?
So instead of creating bridges to walk on,
we make walls that lock us in.
Hope is knowing all pain, all discomfort is temporary.
And the second component is belief in yourself.
Belief in yourself to traverse that space.
between current and the ideal. It's self-empowerment. You can be the difference maker in your life and others.
And it's funny, the other day after reading about the Richter experiment, I was sitting in a friend's house with my laptop, kind of trying to figure out what to make of it, right? Because the idea of hope I knew was...
