Welcome to Your World Within Daily. I'm Eddie Panero. And in this episode, we're going to talk about the road ahead, the unknown, the journey, and believing with all your heart that where you're going will be better than what you're leaving behind.
So what is it about the unknown that's so terrifying to us, that ultimately will keep us in a place where not only are we curious and unfulfilled, but sometimes places.
we don't want to be.
Right?
The whole devil you know
is better than the devil you don't type thing.
When in reality,
you know, a new pursuit
or finding the courage to move down
a new road would bring us
so much more.
Yet we feel confined,
sort of those invisible shackles.
And I wanted to talk about that today.
Got a message from Kaylee says,
would you be able to talk about taking the next step
without knowing where the next step will lead you?
And taking it means leaving people
you have grown close to over the years in one of your podcasts. Thank you. You know, I not only is this
something that I feel like everyone deals with in some capacity, but it was one of the greatest
struggles of, you know, my adult life, hands down. And so looking at this question, again,
this feels like a two-part question. The first one, why is the unknown scary and difficult?
And then you have sort of the parallel piece. Why is it difficult to, you know, what about the
people that you've you've come up with that you love, that you care about, that you know, is
leaving that something that, you know, is worth it. And so addressing the first one, why is the
unknown so difficult? Well, first of all, know that it's not because anything's wrong with you
or you're a wimp or anything like that. It's deeply rooted in our biology. And there's a lot of
studies that support that. Tim Ferriss has a great quote. He says, people would rather be unhappy than
uncertain. You know, neuroscience teaches us that when there is uncertainty in the brain,
we register it like an error, right? Something that needs to be fixed, like a loose end. And so
it's very much against our instinct to allow that uncertainty to exist because our tendency is
to close it, to figure it out. It's a problem. And I've talked about this a couple times on different
episodes, but that deals with, you know, uncertainty equaling death, you know, along our sort of
evolution as a species where now that's not the case, right, but we still think that way.
That's why there's such an effort now to help people realize, like, yeah, this hurts.
It's going to feel uncomfortable, but you just have to dive in.
There's no dancing around it.
It's uncomfortable, but it's what you need.
I've written about it running in the rain.
Mel Robbins has a five-second rule.
You know, Tony Robbins talks about massive action.
I mean, all these things, they're simple in the sense that they just, it hurts, but you got to go.
You have to understand that you're tricking your biology here because 2020 is not 20,000 years ago.
And yes, it's going to be uncertain.
It's going to feel like a loose end.
It's going to be uncomfortable.
But what you are pursuing will be better than.
what you are leaving behind holistically. You have to embrace discomfort. And the unknown, it is
discomfort. I mean, that's what it is. It's psychological distress. But you are capable of handling that.
When you realize, you know, it's not that bad. When you realize one step at a time, nothing is
really that scary. You know, I talk about in my TED talk, the, you know, process of doing just that.
You know, leaving the people that I care most about in Boston, not being next to them, to leave and pursue things that I knew I would always question myself and wonder about if I didn't pursue.
And, you know, if someone in your life is truly there for you, if they support you, they'll be with you through that journey.
It's 2020, like I said, you pick up the phone, you can talk three times a week.
You can talk every day if you want.
You stay connected to the people you care about.
That's the beauty of that relationship.
But if someone really cares about you and really supports you,
they're not going to want you to stay where you are so that you can be in close proximity.
They'll help you through the difficult process that is embracing the unknown,
that is finding the courage to embark upon the journey.
The thing that you know in your core is what you should be doing.
So that would be, you know, my takeaway here.
It is your obligation to pursue that which is important to you.
And it is the unknown.
It will be your unknown until you unpack it and you make it reality.
That is why you're put on this planet.
So you should do that.
And the people in your life, you know, they'll be there.
If they're the right ones, they'll help push you through
and help you create what it is you're trying to create,
bring your vision to life,
not anchor you toward it you shouldn't be.
So keep that in mind as you go out and make your magic.
Have an amazing day, guys.
