If you have built your castles in the air, your work need not be lost.
That is where they should be.
Now put the foundations under them.
A foundation is not made in a day.
It's not flimsy or weak.
It's what holds everything together, and without it, you have useless pieces.
Thoreau mentions a castle in the air, a goal.
The answer resting above us, hovering over everything and everyone.
But until we put life into it, that castle remains four walls and empty space.
It stays part of an imaginary world.
See, most people never get there because they don't understand.
They have complete authority over what's real.
They set the guidelines.
With a magic that looks a lot like.
looks a lot like a single step forward with fiction that very closely resembles progress.
Edison said opportunity is missed by most people because it's dressed in overalls and looks like hard work.
It's not that people are lazy. It's not that they're incapable.
It's that they don't realize how small a step is required to build momentum,
to turn a snowflake into an avalanche.
See, you look at that castle in the sky and you shake your head.
You think how nice it would be.
You flip on the TV, fantasize about million-dollar homes,
debate whether athletes are officially elite.
When you could be building a foundation for yourself,
doing something for you.
All those things you want can be realized, every one of them.
But the road to excellence means nothing
if you don't believe you're worthy of it.
You are.
Start building.
You will be blown away by where this life can take you where you can end up.
Your goals take shape the minute they enter your brain.
Never has there been such a powerful tool as the human mind.
The same entity that can build a bridge to anything in the world can shackle you down.
Listen, that visualization, that dream is there.
It's there and it's very real.
Not to keep you out, but to invite you in.
And you will see that the only true fiction in your life
is the narrative you use that holds you back.
You want that castle in the air?
Get it.
Stop dreaming about it, wishing for it, and make it stretched,
taught about 10 feet up parallel to the ground.
You're holding on with both hands, just hanging there.
You're not alone.
There are people to your left and to your right.
all holding on just like you are.
A few minutes pass, then a few more,
and suddenly this little realization
trickles into the back of your head.
This is not going to be a cakewalk.
In fact, it's starting to hurt.
You've moved beyond that phase of simply being
an unfamiliar territory, and now you know where you are,
you're uncomfortable.
Out of sheer curiosity, you look to your left,
you look to your right,
And you start noticing that these people next to you are beginning to let go.
One by one, they're making the decision that it simply isn't worth it.
So they make it stop, and so could you.
But you decide not yet.
You hold on.
Maybe it's curiosity.
Maybe in some convoluted way, it's ambition.
But you separate yourself from the negative, from the voice convincing the people next to you
to just lift their fingers and make it go away.
Somehow you're floating above all that.
Another minute goes by, another and another,
but it doesn't make a difference
because you're focusing on the seconds.
Because anyone can do anything for one second,
it just so happens that they add up.
It happens that they create minutes.
And after a little while, you again glanced to your left,
you look to your right,
and this time everyone is gone.
This time you're alone, the last one standing hanging on this rope.
And you think about it, there was no definitive moment when this result crystallized.
It was a product of what you didn't do.
It's the result of not letting go.
To someone passing by, you did nothing remarkable.
When others let go, you simply hung on.
And it turns out that that can make all the difference.
So many different thoughts, opinions, approaches regarding success, that magical word, what is it?
What does it mean?
How do you get there with reality swirling around you?
Problems derailing, pushing you back?
We're inclined to believe that getting what we want needs to be some huge production, some monumental shift.
And I do not agree with that.
Success is seeing the big picture.
it is hanging on through the negative, looking past the now.
It's what you don't do.
That fight in you that separates your goals from everything else.
Look, there's always a point when you're tired, when your fingers start to slip,
when a simple decision takes the pain intertwined in the present moment and makes it disappear.
But right now is not what you're after.
Anyone can have right now.
The goal, the finish line is down the road.
It requires that you hang tight, that you strap in and ride this thing out.
If you want it, it's there.
It's that simple.
It's not a trick or a riddle.
It's a question.
When others let go, will you hang on?
There's a saying that just because you've spent a long time,
I'm making a mistake doesn't mean you need to continue making it.
There's an incredible advantage in life for those who can separate past and future.
Who can recognize sunk costs and walk away, walk away from the past, move on to new things.
But here's the challenge, right?
Like so many things our instinct is to preserve.
It's, yeah, but I've invested so many years.
I've spent X amount of dollars in,
Maybe I don't like where I'm at, but look how long it's taken me to get here.
Well, here's the reality.
That time is gone.
That money is not coming back, no matter what you do or what direction you take from here on out.
There's no reason to think you have to maintain the same trajectory or hold on to a specific identity or pattern of behavior.
Yesterday isn't the focal point here.
The goal is simpler.
What matters now and how we're going to be?
will you get there now?
You've grown, you've evolved, you've changed,
and your targets have shifted, so why shouldn't you?
The idea of sunk cost is so important
because it's essentially realizing that you're not
indebted to the resources you've spent or exhausted.
There's no need to be a slave to previous decisions
that you've made, no, just chalk it up
as an integral step in your learning process,
aspect of growth and move forward to what matters, to what you care about.
If that seems obvious, I challenge you to think about the decisions you've made over the last year,
and I guarantee you you've let factors affect your decision-making that are irrelevant to your goals.
Because we feel this camaraderie with yesterday, like there's a debt to be paid,
but man, life is too short to run in place.
not pushing you forward, drop it. If it's not what you need, forget it. In other words, don't be
one of those people that wakes up and makes the same mistake every single day because you've spent
a long time making it. See, reality only exists in your head, and that's why it's beautiful.
You can unlock the cell door and walk out. Don't lose sight of the greatest gift you.
You have the new beginning that lives in every second where you can take a turn you've never
taken before.
Remove the mask and play a role you've never played.
Let that sense of excitement pull you to new things.
Let go of what you can't change and pursue what you can.
Forget the time spent.
Think of now.
Where can you invest now?
surroundings didn't magically arrive, you chose them and you can just as easily take that wheel
and leave. Simple formula, what is best for you and how do you get there? Not where you feel
obligated to be or expected to be or pressure to be, where do you need to be? Everything else is noise.
Everything else is a rope keeping your ship on shore and you are not confined to that harbor
for yesterday's destination.
You're built to chase the horizon,
follow your curiosity into the sunset.
You don't make decisions based on yesterday's story.
You sculpt it with tomorrow's possibility.
