Starting point is 00:01:04 We need to take a breath and ask ourselves who we are. Of course, not in the literal sense, not the reflection staring back in the mirror. But in the context of the road you've already traveled, how far you've come. Because it's easy to become consumed with what's ahead. Especially when you can start to feel that finish line. You can see the top of the mountain.
Starting point is 00:01:39 When you know everything is about to be on the line, your greatest test await. But here's one of the greatest secrets I've ever been told. That test is not about right now. It's not even about the future. It's about the foundation you've already been building. and trusting yourself to be you. It's all those times you could have said no, but you didn't. How you, like so many others, could have taken that easy road,
Starting point is 00:02:18 but you opted for something greater. No, my friend, this obstacle before you is not where you prove or make or create yourself. It's where you simply verify who you already are. cash in on a prize that's been years in the making. And it's where you validate the price you've been paying for as long as you can remember. And what you need to take with you, what you need to understand right now
Starting point is 00:02:51 more than any other time is that you aren't here to simply survive or navigate foreign territory. No, you were made for this moment. this moment. There's a saying that pain is temporary, but quitting is forever. And that simple quote has got me through some of life's greatest trials and tribulations, most challenging times. Because to put it simply, when we're overwhelmed or we're amidst life's chaos, our minds don't scream out, oh hey, you've gotten through this before, and you'll get through it again.
Starting point is 00:03:35 They don't remind us of our strengths or reassure us of our dedication. No, when we feel like we are neck deep in chaos, all we see is what we're not. That's why people quit. They become consumed with the dark, forgetting that the answer is a light switch away, overlooking the fact that they already have everything they need. So let this be your reminder. that getting across the finish line doesn't require some miracle doesn't require you to do what no one in humanity has ever done before
Starting point is 00:04:13 no all it asks is that you believe in yourself to hang on when others would let go to continue forward when you most want to turn back because it's always darkest before the dawn most challenging at the peak when the roar of the crowd becomes audible and the trophy visible find it within yourself to rise
Starting point is 00:04:45 amidst the pressure not to shrink but to expand to be the most powerful person in your life you because right now in this moment You have arrived. Years from now, when you look back, make sure you remember one thing about this moment, that you gave everything you had, that you leaned in on those late nights and those early morning wake-ups,
Starting point is 00:05:22 the hours upon hours in the books, the preparation, dedication, and the resilience, that you knew who you were and let it manifest and lead you into the future. See, we all find ourselves at this fork in the road, the one where we have a decision to make. Will I survive or will I thrive? Will I exist or will I truly live? And in the race of life,
Starting point is 00:05:54 It's when our hearts hounds in our chest. The blood flows through our veins. Our lungs cry out for air. Our minds beg us to stop, slow down, relax. It's in that moment that we must carry on. We must be our best. We must put all those little pieces together to create our masterpiece. peace, to breathe life into the foundation that you have been standing on this whole time.
Starting point is 00:06:30 See, this moment is yours. If you're willing to endure, to hang in just a little bit longer, give just a little bit more. If you're willing to put all of yourself into the task before you, you may just be a maze. at what life gives back. The existence of two entities. Those who create change and those who merely react. And so I've wondered what separates the one from the many. What differentiates a fleeting moment from a chapter and a history book?
Starting point is 00:07:38 See, I think we all come to a point where we look up and we see no top to the wall we seek to climb. We look down and see the water rising at our feet with every breath. We look to our left and see those who are where we want to be tomorrow. And we look to our right and see the trail of decisions we love to take back from yesterday. This is where most create their limiting narrative, where most succumb to the world around them, but most is not all. And every soul eventually comes. to find that it was shaped not by sunny days or easy roads, but by walking to the edge of the only world it's ever known
Starting point is 00:08:25 and daring to risk the normalcy to which it's accustomed. Because our appearance in the light is the manifestation of what we do in the shadows when we're alone, fighting the little battles. Greatness isn't just a different level of results. It's a whole new set of rules. And the monumental task in front of you is the culmination of a battle that's already been fought thousands and thousands of times. It's been won or lost over and over again.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Every time you decide to stand apart instead of follow the crowd, decide to flourish instead of just survive, decide to lead instead of follow, build instead of conform, when you endure, it's because you've decided. that you are different, not in that moment, but every single day leading up to that point. This is not a reinvention. It's living out who you already chose to be. So the wall is high, you will climb because it's what you do. So the water rises, you will swim because it's who you are. So the people to your left have succeeded.
Starting point is 00:09:41 There is always room at the top, and you will claim yours. Your's so you failed in the past good because falling then means you endure now and so you will There's a quote attributed Heraclitus on the realities of soldiers in battle. He says look out of every 100 men Ten shouldn't even be there 80 are just targets Nine are the real fighters and we are lucky to have them for they make the battle but the one. One is a warrior. One thing I've become much more intentional about over the years.
Starting point is 00:11:11 As a runner and an endurance athlete is hydration. Not just drinking more water, but actually replacing the electrolytes you lose through training, long hikes, travel, or even spending time outside in South Florida and now Arizona where I live. That's why I use element. It's a no-brainer.
Starting point is 00:11:29 It's a zero-sugar electrolyte drink mix with a meaningful amount of sodium, along with potassium and magnesium to help support hydration without all that sugar and junk that's in most sports drinks that are available to us. So when I'm running, I'm hiking, I take the powder packs with me. If it's after a workout, my go-to is one of their cold already prepared cans. Like I've talked about on the show before, I've noticed 100% that when I stay on top of my electrolytes, I have more consistent energy, fewer headaches. I simply feel better during my long-distance training sessions and recovery.
Starting point is 00:12:05 So whether you're lifting, running, fasting, eating low carb, or you're just someone who sweats a lot, Element is an easy addition to your routine. If you order now, you can get a free eight-count sample pack with any purchase. It's a great way to test all the most popular flavors. Figure out which one's your favorite. Just head to Drink Element. That's DrinkLM-N-T.com slash Eddie. claim that offer. And if you don't love it, it's no problem. Element has a no questions asked
Starting point is 00:12:35 refund policy. So there's really no risk or downside to giving it a try. There's an old idea that once you've started, you're halfway there. How does that make sense, one might wonder. Once you've started, you've only just begun. And that's true, technically. But here's the thing. The journey, the ins and outs, ups and downs, trials and tribulations, they can all be dealt with. They knock us down from time to time, no doubt. But we learn, we adjust, and carry on as we move forward. Most success stories, they're crushed. not because of that adversity along the way,
Starting point is 00:13:38 but because they never begin. They never take shape or materialize. We can't make them real in our heads. We can't convince ourselves that they'll ever be anything other than fiction. We think that's for someone else. We look around and assume that reality is different than my reality
Starting point is 00:14:03 and overcoming this mental, constraint is always the most challenging step. And that's saying, the one I continuously find myself coming back to, human beings always follow through on who they believe themselves to be, continues to be true. If you don't believe you're worthy of something, its pursuit is lost before it began. So while the mind tries to paint pictures of how scary that road is ahead, how it's too different or big or complex, understand that should you move forward, you'll find all that complexity can be broken down one day, one situation, one little step at a time.
Starting point is 00:15:01 The only real demon here is the possibility of inaction because you couldn't make yourself Believe it. You couldn't see yourself at the top of that mountain. And so the front door was never opened. Emerson says, hits your wagon to a star. A beautiful reminder that that star is proof your dreams are real. And only as real as the conviction with which you move towards them. Green light, your own glory. your own contentment. Because contrary to what we might think, no one comes up and bestows that upon us. To live life fully is a decision. Decision, Latin root words, cut off.
Starting point is 00:15:57 It's removing and abandoning your restraint in order to be more authentically you. In order that you'll give yourself permission to chase down that which makes you feel alive and soak up all that aligns with your heart and soul. Once you start, you're halfway there. And oh, that first step, often perceived as the beginning, but in actuality, a point few ever give themselves the luxury of experiencing. Step one, believe it's possible. Step two, believe you're worthy.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Step three, go. Everything else works itself out. You're capable of dancing through life's chaos, of managing the world's unknowns. So know that, understand that, but most importantly, be one of the few who gives themselves permission to experience that. And it starts... What is the complex? but an accumulation of that which is simple.
Starting point is 00:17:42 What are big things, if not just a multitude, of little things? There's comfort in the understanding that all we have in life, all there is, is simplicity. Easy to understand pieces. It's just that sometimes we stack them so high that they start to take a new shape. But like Greg McKeown references in his book Essentialism, the power isn't always in acquiring answers. You already have them. They're in front of you. The power is in cutting away the things that don't need, removing all that stands between you and your ideal existence.
Starting point is 00:18:35 And I think that's one of life's great misunderstandings. We don't need to find more. we need to remove the excess until we're face to face with what matters. And to adopt this principle, it's nothing short of liberating. Chaos, confusion, disorder, they don't imply that you lack the right things. They suggest you haven't stripped life of the wrong things. You have not simplified. A thousand miles is intimidating when you look at it holistically.
Starting point is 00:19:11 It's a long journey. But it's just a collection of steps, and well, shouldn't we find solace in the fact that anyone can take one step? It's not a game of complexity. It's a game of understanding what's in front of you. And what's in front of you is always manageable. So much of our stress stems from forgetting what that journey is made of. Whether it's a change in career, mastery of an art, some kind of personal transformation, the result we want. When looking at it from the starting line, it's too complex to understand too many pieces stacked up.
Starting point is 00:20:00 So let's break it down. Let's find the foundation. What's really there? What are the one, two, three things we need to do? What is that golden question? what matters? If you lose sight of that, then you will stumble through life.
Starting point is 00:20:24 I've learned this. I've lived it. The time I take to myself every day is invaluable to me because I ask myself those two questions. What matters and what are the simple steps I need to take? What can I remove? I was talking about this during an interview this week. my personal growth.
Starting point is 00:20:49 And one of the most important aspects has been the understanding and the zeroing in on what's important. I used to take so much pride in composing the background music to these speeches, end-to-end. I used to love to be able to say, I did it all. That was so I thought the great differentiator. But ultimately, I learned to take a step back and ask, what matters here? What do you care about? It's the storytelling that I love. It's the impact.
Starting point is 00:21:18 And let's be real. No one cares who wrote the background music. It's holistically, how does the piece make you feel? Right? And this understanding allowed me to cut away. License the music. Save two days a week, acquire clarity. And realize my goal is not to be Mozart.
Starting point is 00:21:39 My journey is to be one of the great communicators, storytellers of our time. And if a day goes by where I'm not taking a little step towards that, it's the wrong move. Small example in the grand scheme of things, but right on point. It's the power in understanding what matters that makes a difference that allows you to grow, evolve. And I'm confident that this not only applies to long-term pursuits, but also our challenging times, the dark moments, the periods of uncertainty and discontent.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Same concept. Where do you want to be? And how do you get there? What's the simple thing you can do to close that gap? Because you are never helpless. You can always do something. And my friends, those little somethings ultimately evolve into everything. And when we put our phone away, step beyond the noise,
Starting point is 00:22:45 spend time with ourselves, we can see how much of life is running in place. Stacking and stacking pieces that aren't even even part of the masterpiece we're trying to assemble. If you want answers, start with the understanding that they're buried under mountains of things you don't need. So cut away. Cut away the people and places and things that convolut your story. Cut away the exhaustion of time that provides no value in return. Cut away the thoughts that make life more complex than your journey from where you are to where you'd like to be. As you stand right now, you have everything you need and there's nothing greater than that,
Starting point is 00:23:42 nothing more powerful than that understanding. So why not step outside the complexity that you've manufactured that you're living in, into, a world of clarity, simplicity, and capture what matters. If there's one thing I've never been great about, that's skin care. I'm outside all the time. I'm running, I'm hiking, I'm rucking, spending so much time taking care of my body that I forget that my skin is a part of it. That's why I've partnered with and been using one skin. Their daily lotion has an anti-aging peptide that targets fine lines, dullness, and loss of firmness. And again, with how much, how much time I spend outside, that really matters.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Apparently, sun exposure is responsible for up to 80% of visible skin aging, and my skin just feels better and healthier, more hydrated than it used to. It's become a quick, easy part of my daily routine. I use it right before I head out the door. It's also been backed by four peer-reviewed clinical studies. It has more than 10,000 five-star reviews, and it's recognized by Bloomberg as a leader in skin longevity. For a limited time, you can get 15% off with my code Eddie at oneskin.co slash Eddie.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Again, that's 15% off at oneskin.com slash Eddie. Back to the show. I wanted to know whether or not my heroes cried. Odd question, sure. But like, how much separates us? Are we merely in different leagues? Or are we from different planets? Do they ever feel down?
Starting point is 00:25:50 And if so, how do they appear so composed? What made them the chosen ones? Do they ever feel less then? Ill-equipped, fearful. Do they ever look around in a room and wonder, should I even be here? Or were they gifted with a sense of complete and total acceptance? It's funny, a big part of my collegiate experience was rowing.
Starting point is 00:26:20 which means pretty frequently, we would find ourselves doing sprint workouts on the rowing machine. So like 2K tests, 6K tests, all that good stuff, right? And I remember wondering, particularly the fastest few guys on the team, what was their level of pain compared to mine? Could it be that they hurt less doing the exact same workout? Was it somehow easier for them? The answer to that's probably no. In fact, I bet they navigated the exact same hell I did.
Starting point is 00:26:56 I think the best athletes endure the same physical discomfort. Industry leaders battle the same insecurities. The ones walking into rooms with their heads held high and shoulders back, yeah, they ask the same very human questions that I do. In other words, yes, our heroes cry. You know what else they do, though? Find a way to go regardless. When it hurts, they adjust and go.
Starting point is 00:27:32 When they're scared, they reassure themselves and keep walking. When doubts emerge, they remind themselves that someone has to be the person to step up, so why not me? One of the biggest mistakes I've made over the course of my life, and still I occasionally catch myself making. is assuming the good stuff, the good characteristics, good traits. Well, they're possessed and utilized by every single beating heart on the planet. While the quote-unquote bad things, they were personally assigned to me and me only. Perhaps because we can just be so lonely with our suffering, it's hard to imagine that others deal with it.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Especially when everyone's online slideshow is, you know, one of trophies, smiling faces and captions that start, I'm so proud to announce that, you know what I mean. But they hurt. Because like you, they are human and human beings inevitably hurt. Life is highs and life is lows. And no one escapes the lows. Here is the deal, though, hurt is not the end. It's the fork in the road.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Hurt is decision time. Oh, easy for you to say, Eddie, you don't know my pain. On the one hand, yes, true. On the other, ah, you're doing exactly what I'm talking about here. Comparing suffering is a fool's errand. You can destroy with a hammer as well as an atom bomb. I don't think the entity being completely flattened cares which one does the leveling. And so this universal truth poses a somewhat obvious question.
Starting point is 00:29:43 If we all hurt and our heroes do cry, what is the differentiator? Well, it's the ability to address the pain and use it for something good. This is nothing more than me pointing at those currently sitting on mountain tops and saying, look, they did it. The runner who wins the race didn't suffer less. He or she navigated that suffering better than the rest of the group, both during the race and the training leading up to it. The actor or actress on the big screen, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:23 they weren't dropped onto a Tarantino set and handed a few million bucks, right? Odds are they went to hundreds, if not thousands, of readings, and auditions, but despite being told no, countless times, which in and of itself is a form of mental duress and torture, they picked their head up and said, this isn't the one, but my time is coming. The guy's playing ball at a high level, right? Putting in hours and hours of unrewarded, private, personal work,
Starting point is 00:30:54 both when they wanted to and when they didn't, when they were tired. It's not a matter of pain or no pain. It's a matter of sink or swim. It's life giving you something heavy and leaving you to decide, is this a burden or a gift? What will you make of this weight that's been thrust upon you?
Starting point is 00:31:29 As we find ourselves hurting, right, navigating real emotions, I think it's a game of one feeling. sitting with it, understanding it, and then, too, choosing to rise above it. Turning that pain into purpose, making it the differentiator. When you hurt, remind yourself of this very important truth. Most people stop right now where you stand. Most throw in the towel, most say right here, I'm done.
Starting point is 00:32:13 And what an opportunity for you to stand alone. For you to be the one who rises regardless, moves into the chaos. So yes, your heroes do cry because they feel. But their feelings aren't drivers. Their feelings are passengers. on a journey to evolution, on a path to something beautiful. The same path, by the way, you owe to yourself to walk down. Just beyond the discomfort you once thought was the end of the world.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Perhaps it's time, despite the chaos, the duress, and the discomfort to rise above all that noise and go there. Will you be courageous enough to light your lantern in the dark? I recently heard a story about Florence Chadwick in 1952 who was a swimmer
Starting point is 00:33:52 attempting to swim from Catalina Island to the California coast, which all in all is about a 26-mile journey through shark-infested waters and the whole nine yards. And so 15, hours into her swim, this heavy fog rolls in, and it's so thick she can barely see the boats beside her. Shoreline, completely invisible. So she sees nothing. And, you know, exhausted and just
Starting point is 00:34:24 disoriented, she finally feels like enough is enough, asked to be pulled out of the water. And it's once she is lifted out and climbs into the boat, that she realized she'd been less than a mile from the finish. And she's quoted later saying, I think if I could have seen the shore, I would have made it. But things feel extra heavy when you don't get that reassurance of the finish line. And see, that's just it. Sometimes you won't see the shore.
Starting point is 00:35:07 The darkness, the fog, the uncertainty, they hide the destination. And in those moments, the only way forward is to keep moving with the little light that you have. Your lantern, metaphorically, of course, doesn't need to show the whole coastline. Just enough to take the next stroke. Two months later, she tries again, visualizing the coast throughout the entirety of her trip and arrives at the destination. See, the enemy here isn't the lack of visibility in and of itself. It's the instinct to panic when we cannot see the destination,
Starting point is 00:35:55 forgetting that we have enough light to illuminate the space immediately in front of us, and that is always sufficient. Even the most courageous among us know, it goes against every instinct to slowly move into the dark, not knowing, not understanding. But piecing things together in real time, step by step, breath by breath, decision by decision. One of my favorite quotes or ideas is that if you wait until you're ready, you will be waiting all your life. See, the difference comes down to not who has the most perfectly executed plan.
Starting point is 00:36:45 but rather who's willing to turn on their lantern who will endure discomfort before they have answers who's willing to go before they have a clue it's easy on paper easy to think about not easy to do
Starting point is 00:37:07 when you immediately feel the weight of criticism of doubt of pressure societal expectations comparison when you're stuck in the gap between where you are and where you most want to be. All those things, those fears that keep us on the sidelines. But the lantern you light is the small action, the bridge to get you to the next point.
Starting point is 00:37:34 And the next and the next. And those points they add up. They are what empires are made of. They are the agents of change. they're the email you send when you don't feel like it the workout you do when the mind says and not today man the vulnerable conversation you initiate
Starting point is 00:37:56 even though your voice shakes these little flames admittedly don't light up the entire world but they give you enough light to keep moving forward there is always enough at your disposal to do the next thing and the next and the next and the next And these little acts of courage, will they ultimately place you where you need to be?
Starting point is 00:38:26 Whether that's on a team, an executive suite, or the California shoreline after a 26-mile swim. I need you to remember that. You have everything you need. But just like a seed that will one day become the mightiest tree in the forest, everything you need doesn't unfold all of it. once. It is one day, one action, one move at a time. So the next time you feel helpless, as though the pressures of life are too much and the weight of the world too heavy, remember, it is not yours to carry in totality. You cannot jump a mountain that will never be
Starting point is 00:39:26 expected of you. But what's yours, what's within your power and control is the ability to turn your lantern on and move. Just move. Because in the dark, you don't need the sun. You only need that lantern and the courage. The first ever All Electric 2026 Subaru Trail Seeker is the EV for the Trail Obsessed, with up to 444 kilometers on a full charge and DC fast charging, from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes in ideal control.

Test drive it at your local Subaru dealer or visit Subaru.ca. How strong you are. You simply... See, sometimes life is a game of consistency. It requires that you show up and give all you've got. And sometimes life reminds you that all you've got is a fabricated story. hovering six layers above what you're really made of.
Starting point is 00:41:30 It reminds you that all you've got is what you tell yourself when you fall short. So as to rationalize the outcome, pat yourself on the back. All you've got is a hedge. A reason to not have to fully enter the belly of the beast. It's one point flickering away amidst an infinite, galaxy of stars. You can't talk about all you've got because you have no idea what that is. And what I want to know is are you willing to peel it back, to rip that cover off, to stop
Starting point is 00:42:18 talking about your best and all you've got, and instead find within yourself a place that transcends anything the mind wants to quantify and put a ribbon on. Inside you, there is a well so deep you could pull from it now until the end of time. Let the question evolve from does more exist to am I willing to reach down, to draw from it my potential, my strength, my resilience? you think the external world is big. The world within is one with no balance. It is forever. I've pushed myself physically harder in the last few months
Starting point is 00:43:14 than I have in a very long time, maybe ever. And you know what the first thing I realized is? When my heart rate is in zone 5, when I am at a point of total shutdown, it takes me about 30 to 60 seconds rest to be completely functional again. And to be in a place of that much duress, discomfort, and recover and jump right back into the game is a superpower I didn't know I had. Why?
Starting point is 00:43:46 Because I'd never pushed myself that far. I'd never dared to draw from that well. There's a saying that suggests, In order for one to see how strong they are, one must be willing to go further than they've ever gone. When you immerse yourself into hell, you find this entire time you were capable of navigating the flames. Perhaps you were even made to.
Starting point is 00:44:18 That kind of makes you sit back and think, doesn't it? I could have easily lived my entire life and not known that about my life. self, not known what I can endure, been totally ignorant to what I'm capable of, an understanding that transcends the physical, that reminds me I can be strong, calm, and patient amidst life's difficulties. I can remain composed amidst the turbulence, which when you're in it feels equally impossible. You are capable of more than you can imagine. And that's not fluff.
