Every setback, every opportunity, every challenge is filtered through the story you've come to believe about who you are and what's possible for you. And if that story says you're stuck, broken, behind, or incapable, your life will begin to reflect it.In this video, Eddie explores why changing your life doesn't start by changing your circumstances; it starts by changing the narrative you've been living inside. Because the moment you rewrite your story, you stop surviving the life you've been given and start creating the one you were meant to live.If you've felt lost, unmotivated, or disconnected from yourself, this message is your reminder: you are not your past, your doubts, or the movie that's been playing in your mind. human beings don't see we interpret we don't take in what happens we take in the implication of what happens
everything in our world is story it's similar to the idea of two ideologically different news
organizations right reporting on the same event neither will be completely factual they'll both
uphold their individual narratives.
They're not black and white.
They're interpreting grace, space.
And our individual lives are no different.
We are our own broadcasting channels.
Using data to support our individual narratives.
See, we know what the story's going to say
before the story occurs
because we will make it so.
We'll make life fit our beliefs.
That's what means
to be human.
So here's where the value lives in the context of this message when we find ourselves in a
consistent state of despair or frustration or anxiety.
It's a fool's errand to look for solutions in the external world.
Because everything we find, everything we come across, will support our current beliefs,
our current story.
That's what we'll keep playing in our heads.
And it's why money can't bring fulfillment.
and another person can't take you from incomplete to content.
It's why status will never equate to happiness.
Those acquisitions are like putting premium fuel in a car with a broken engine.
It's just not the answer that we hoped it would be.
To change your world, you must change your story.
Whatever it is that needs to be changed.
The location, the objective, the character,
maybe the journey altogether,
but it's the neural network behind your eyes that must change,
not the detail it takes in.
And so if you feel stuck or feel like where you want to be
seems unrealistic, you have to know right now
that the very fact you think that way is the problem.
So ask yourself, not your girlfriend or your boss or your neighbor,
but ask yourself what a turnaround looks like.
looks like. Do you know? Or have you acclimated to being unhappy? Have you even asked yourself what
happiness looks like? Or is your personal broadcasting channel so hell-bent on ensuring your life
outlook stays the way it is that it's not even paying attention to the data it takes in? See, I believe
wholeheartedly that the first step in any facet of transformation is remembering that you have
control that things in your life that bring you down or hold you back can be changed.
In fact, the very things working against you can work for you, but you have to be aware.
You have to think about it.
Now I'm not a believer in magic, right?
I don't think you sit back, say I don't want to be unhappy ever again, snap your fingers
and smile until the end of eternity.
But I do believe that once we're aware of our manufactured shackles and our self-imposed
limitation, we can start chipping away, doing the one, two, or three small things every day,
tiny swings at the tree until it falls.
If it's, I'm not happy with my work life, well, what does a better situation look like?
What bridges that gap?
I'll wake up 20 minutes earlier on weekdays and master Microsoft Excel.
I'll send one message on LinkedIn asking an expert about the field I want to move into.
I'll read 20 pages a day in a book related to business.
You think those things are small?
See what they look like compounded in a year.
Not only that, this is the most important part.
You are taking the power back.
You're taking control.
And that's what feels good.
That's where we get our identity.
You get a little disappointed at how you've let your physique slip when you look in the mirror.
Don't be sad about it every day.
Again, ask yourself with the inverse.
looks like and start doing small things.
Subtract one sports drink and add one green smoothie.
Double your water intake.
Do a 10-minute daily workout on YouTube.
Like the pieces are out there.
And to find yourself again is to realize that they're out there.
Realize that you're playing a movie on loop in your head that isn't right.
It's just not you.
And well, what movie do you want to be?
playing in an ideal world scroll through the library find it click play and start doing the small
things that make it real there's so much power in progress i've seen this unfold in different areas
of my life but particularly as a writer as a speaker it's like you identify who you want to be you start
making tiny steps and after a while you're surrounded by the change that you've been
created. How can you not believe something that you're starting to live? It has to become your
identity because it is you. It's around you. You breathe it. So look around and realize the
malleability of your situation. And if what you find is not you, good. Here is your opportunity
to tear down the old and construct the new. You can do that. You can do that. You can do that. You can do
that because you have control because it's within your grasp. So start the new movie, the new story,
make yourself the hero, and set out to find yourself again. I've been spending a lot of time
in nature this summer. In one thing that became quickly apparent when I'm running, hiking, rucking, or
filming, food can easily become an afterthought. You either end up paying way too much for something
mediocre or you grab whatever's convenient and just kind of hope for the best. But this summer,
I found a different solution that I want to talk to you about. And that's Huell Black Edition.
I've talked a little bit about it in the past, getting creative with it, you know, using it for
French toast in the morning if I have some time. But it's really been the fuel behind my
outdoor summer adventures. It means.
mixes really well with water and milk in about 30 seconds.
It provides 40 grams of protein, 27 essential vitamins and minerals,
no artificial sweeteners, colors, or flavors.
What I like most is that it's not just a drink on top of a meal.
It's a complete meal designed to replace one,
which makes life a lot easier when I'm traveling or spending the full day out on the trail.
And when I'm really in a hurry, I'll grab one of the ready to drink bottles,
which costs less than five bucks,
which is way better than paying 30 bucks for a meal out on the road.

Find away.
Because first and foremost,
There always is one.
Find a way because you are more than strong enough.
Because anything other than a solution or some semblance of progress
means you gave in.
Called it quits, threw in the towel.
And giving in is not who you are.
Find a way because that discomfort today
Well, it becomes our greatest source of pride tomorrow.
The simple decision to carry on or stick it out now is so much more than it appears to be when under duress.
Sure, it's easy to turn around.
But everything, everything relies on your moving forward into that darkness.
Find a way.
Because while we may think we want safety and need predictability,
our souls want adventure.
Life's meaning is comprised of the mountains climbed and dragons slayed,
so step out and slay your dragons.
Find a way.
Because an evolved self has to be earned.
Keeping promises to yourself is no small ordeal.
Putting your head on the pillow at night,
knowing you followed through on who you decided you would be.
That's power.
It creates a trajectory towards infinite possibility.
It points you at the stars.
Find a way because you must reinforce the fact.
the fact that the world is clay to be molded, not a checklist.
It's a game, not a chore, a gift, not an obligation.
When you find a way, you become the ruler of your own kingdom.
Look, there exists a way, a path.
That's not the question.
The question is one of effort.
Is there a willingness to move beyond the parameters imposed upon you by others, by the past,
by the thoughts that bounce around in your head?
Is there a willingness to endure duress in the short term?
Is there a willingness to fall down now, to look dumb, to not always be perfectly packaged
or assembled?
Are you willing to endure that in exchange for the infinite?
I remember hearing the mantra, there is always a way to get to your finish line.
It's not can I.
It's not, is it possible?
No, it's how.
How do I get there?
The dots exist.
You have to be the one to connect them.
You have to build bridges over the oceans of unknowns.
The valleys comprised of the unforeseen, oh, there is a way.
Remember that.
Remember that it's not the destination that's in question,
but one's willingness to knock and knock and knock until the right door opens.
Remember that you have everything you need,
that you are armed with all that is required.
You were made to connect those very,
dots before you. You just have to decide what's more important to you. That feeling of reaching
the top of the mountain or the feeling of its shade at the bottom. What will you give to be more
than you've ever been? Do more than you've ever done. There is always, are you willing to find it?
What does it mean to be a little better every single day?
James Clearers noted that if each day you improve by only 1%,
you'll be a full 37 times better in a year.
That's an almost unfathomable number.
Unbelievable transformation.
Imagine being 37 times better at what it is you're looking to improve on.
37 times more efficient or skilled.
All because of a 1% per day commitment.
Almost sounds too good to be true.
Here's the catch, though.
1% doesn't seem like much.
Which is good, one might think.
You know, that should make it easier.
Well, sort of.
The easier and more seemingly trivial something is to accomplish,
the easier it is to dismiss it as well.
We've all been there that, maybe not today, maybe tomorrow.
No big deal.
We don't lose anything.
And that's what we must learn to wrestle with.
Jim Rohn puts it this way.
He says, being successful is easy.
The issue is that being unsuccessful is easy too.
Saying yes to the little things you know you need to do is easy.
But so is saying no.
Putting your phone away to work on something of substance, yeah, that's pretty easy.
But watching just one more TikTok or Instagram or YouTube video, that's easy too.
Putting your shoes on, going for a walk or run, heading to the gym.
Hey, procedurally, pretty easy.
Not that complex.
But talking yourself into just going tomorrow instead.
Also, a rationalization that's pretty easy.
And that's essentially the question.
Which easy are you going to go with?
How do you put yourself in position to select the right easy?
Well, like so many things, it starts with the worldview
and flows out to the tangible actions we take in support of that worldview.
First things first.
We have to know that the biggest advantage available is seeing the small things as so much more than small things.
It's refusing to fall victim to the disappointment and burnout associated with hoping for one huge jump, a miracle solution, the answer that will change everything.
That's deceiving.
Winning looks small and consistent.
Progress is boring. It's mundane. It looks like deciding on what matters and then making a pact with yourself every day to keep your own promises.
When most would fall off or push things to tomorrow, it's seeing your commitment as everything.
Knowing that the people who manufacture significance in their lives, they treat what others would call silly and trivial.
as life and death.
They make the details into the whole storyline.
So yeah, it might be easy for someone else to walk away.
But when you have given yourself no other option but to succeed,
the little steps to make it happen
requires zero thought or internal deliberation.
The person who gets into shape over the course of six months,
they're not going to be the one who found a secret diet,
bought a piece of equipment on Amazon,
They didn't do the necessary thing here and there when they had their fleeting moments of inspiration.
No, they made better, consistent decisions.
No to the soda, yes to the water, no to the alarm, yes to the run, no to the Netflix and yes to the gym.
Both options were easy in the moments in which they arose.
But each time only one option mattered.
And that's what it's about.
tying the prolonged gratification to something that means the world to you,
where each step is not just a step, but one step closer to the moon.
So no, it's certainly not that a can of Coke or dessert or the day off will kill you,
but flip the narrative.
It's that when you do stay true to your mission and the promises you make to yourself,
you get something so much more back.
It's not, oh, what will I lose by skipping this 1%?
No, in a world where excellence compounds,
it's look what I am becoming.
And this decision is an investment too good to pass up.
And every decision to move forward,
to embrace the things that align with your true north,
is a nod.
to that future self. Standing on that ledge, staring out at what we know we need to do,
at the moment we least want to do it, well, that's where the future is shaped. When procrastination
feels like the answer or avoidance, the optimal choice, where does one draw their strength?
They say routine is a powerful tool in this fight. And I believe this,
that. When something becomes habit or part of the process instilled in the day-to-day, there's just
simply less room for negotiation. We show up with our eyes on the prize. But here's the thing,
we are human. There's simply going to be days when the world pushes back. Life is a game of
complexity. It's unpredictable. You want to talk about the good days, fine. It's easy to show
up when we're feeling good. And thankfully, those days outnumber the others, right, creating the bulk
of our consistency, 10,000 hours. But not all of them. Life is about momentum. Myself, after coming off
a pretty terrible weekend for a variety of reasons, I found myself on that ledge again.
When the alternative route made itself known, where it felt mighty tempting to call it off,
take a break where my worldview had come into question, I had to ask myself, who are you?
Really?
It's easy to rationalize walking away in these moments.
In his book The War of Art, Stephen Presfield says,
our job in life is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be,
but to find out who we already are and become it.
Well, who would have known how much goes into that process of becoming?
How committed we have to be to the road before us,
and not only when it's sunny, but when the skies are dark and gray.
And how if we allow ourselves,
in those difficult moments to say,
sometimes it's okay to wave the white flag.
It's okay to walk away.
Then you leave the door cracked
to make that same decision
at any other point in time.
Quitting, conceding can very easily become a habit
and a habit we want to avoid at all cost.
I have this little rule
that no matter what,
I can never leave dishes in the sink overnight.
Never.
I treat this, you know, arbitrary little promise to myself,
like it's life or death.
Which, again, random, but hear me out.
It's half practical, half symbolic.
I know that if I say, okay, just this once,
I've effectively removed the barrier separating order from chaos.
If it's okay just this once,
then it's okay 1,000 times.
and a messy sink becomes a messy kitchen, becomes a messy house, becomes a cluttered mind.
Extreme, maybe.
But critical, right?
Here is where the symbolism comes in.
I understand how fragile that divide.
How when I'm tired or have a headache or I'm busy, it's still priority.
Because I want to hammer my subconscious with the understanding that I show up,
when it's inconvenient.
That very moment when, you know, I could easily trick myself into thinking it's small or dumb
or arbitrary.
It's a sink, who cares, right?
That's the moment that I need to bleed into the rest of my life.
And I think that's exactly it, right?
The floodwaters are always looking to come in.
And how many cracks until the room gives way?
You know, when you've had a few rough days, when you've lost something important to you,
when you're sad or disappointed about an outcome, what then?
When life calls you to exceed expectations, what then?
Because the world around you will always give you evidence
to support dialing it back, right, selling yourself short,
if that's the case you're looking to make.
But here's the deal.
Should you choose the inverse, you are strong enough
to be better than you've ever been in those challenging moments.
You can show up when it hurts.
You can reestablish your why and carry forward even after the turbulence of yesterday.
Life will never be easy.
It will never all make sense.
And this understanding has helped me to roll up my sleeves and continue forward.
When I'm disappointed with yesterday or overwhelmed by the conditions or landscape of the moment,
when I question how much I have left,
but I've found that when I look hard enough,
there's always something to draw.
And that's the message of note.
That's what we must show ourselves.
When you're on that ledge,
this can be where you're at your best.
This is where you get to uncover
just how deep-rooted your greatness is.
This is where you set the standard
and the pace for everything to come.

I made it part of my morning routine to go outside, have a cup of coffee,
and listen to this app that gives you basically 15-minute summaries of books.
It kind of randomizes it for me.
And this morning, the one that came on was called How to Talk to Anyone.
And there was a part that really stuck out to me, talked about being methodical,
about who you interact with, particularly in a social setting.
The idea being that you don't need to be some type of polished politician to be able to navigate a party or work a room.
And it goes into planning, the idea like eating before the gathering or parties.
So while you're there, you can focus on connecting with the people you want to connect with,
getting the most out of your time there.
That type of thing makes sense.
But the line or the way it was summed up that really got me was in that situation, be the chooser, not the choice.
Pretty powerful framing there, right?
Think about how often when we don't ask ourselves what an ideal ending is, what we want, and we simply show up and go with the flow, we're actually forfeiting our ability to shape the outcome of the evening.
It's instead going to be shaped by the people who do have a preference and act accordingly.
In other words, we're willingly signing up to be a part of their plan.
We're signing on to be the choice and not, as the passage says, the chooser.
Like so many things, you know, you can take a single idea or concept from one area and pointed at something else, right?
It applies across the board.
How many places in our lives are we just going along without any visualized outcome or goal?
In what areas are we showing up to the metaphorical gathering with no ideal outcome in mind?
Hoping the right people come to us.
The right things appear to us.
And of course, life is messy.
No plan's going to be perfect.
But there's plenty of truth to that old saying, you can't hit a touch.
target that you haven't created. That isn't there. And if you don't take the wheel in these
little segments of your life, you can't then be disappointed when things don't happen, when the car
doesn't go where you wanted it to go. No, the one holding the wheel will determine that.
Now, let's be real. Identifying what you want and pursuing it is definitely more challenging, right?
It takes more effort and sacrifice. It's emotionally taxing. Because now there's something that's
but you also position yourself to now get something worthwhile out of the situation.
A situation that you otherwise would have had very little control over, right?
I've referenced a few times my eighth grade teacher telling us never to hold our hands up to the sky.
And he would clasp his hands together to make this little bowl and hold them out.
But he'd say never just hold them out and hope something falls into them.
As the saying goes, hope is not a strategy, and I think there are different levels to this for sure.
It's one thing to never think about what you want in life at all.
It's another thing to walk into a party and snack on the pretzels instead of connecting with someone, right?
They're very different.
But when we understand that underneath both of them, underneath all of it, the same principle applies.
we can at least recognize where they're happening in our lives.
Some small, some bigger and perhaps more important.
Layers to a cake.
But why wouldn't it always be beneficial to ask yourself, one, what matters and two, what can I do to bring me closer to what matters?
At least then you're cognizant.
I think often the greatest opportunities lost are lost simply because we're not aware of them.
So if we make ourselves aware and we miss the opportunity,
let's make sure we missed it because we looked it in the eye and chose no.
We met that additional layer of resistance and still said no thank you, right?
There's intentionality to it.
I remember reading Darren Hardy's book, The Compound Effect,
and he's someone that is apparently incredibly meticulous about everything he does,
to the point where he would write out a description for his future significant other.
Like if it were a dream world, the exact person he was hoping to spend the rest of his life with.
From her eye color, hair, what she enjoyed doing, all that stuff.
And, you know, it goes to show you the difference a few years can make.
The first time I read that, I thought, well, that's way too extreme.
I skipped right over it.
Now I look at that and I'm like, yeah, he's just creating an ideal.
so that in the real tangible world,
he can put himself in the best position to attract that person.
He's creating a goal.
Otherwise, what's the alternative?
You just kind of walk around and hope someone appears around a corner someday
who aligns with you and what you want and your interests and it's rolling dice.
There are just too many variables in life to constantly be wishing or crossing your fingers,
leaving things up to chance or fate.
There has to be some general sense of direction.
And I've had this kind of miniature epiphany
in many aspects of my life.
For example, you know, business, I've been asked,
but what do you want it to look like the next five years?
It used to be, well, five years is a long time away.
Do I really need to know?
And it's like, if you don't know, then what are you doing today?
You're just repeating what you've always done?
Are you acting randomly and hoping it takes you somewhere that will make you happy down the road?
No, you have a vision, and as Bezos has said, you hold the vision and you continually adjust the process.
Again, life is messy. Things will change five million times, and that's okay, but there's a better chance good things will happen to you if you identify what they are and seek them out.
Even smaller example, Boston, my home, I live there, I love the people there.
But, you know, five years ago, I was at a point where my work was remote, my team was remote.
So rather than simply endure, you know, November to June every year, I ask myself, well, what's my ideal lifestyle like?
What if I design around that? Why not move somewhere that really excites me?
Now I can run in the heat in January in Miami.
That's not a small thing in my life.
That makes me a lot happier.
And so it's little things like that.
you know, you get the point from the big things to the tiny details.
If you don't choose what you want or choose your path, life will simply choose it for you.
And that may or may not, you know, be in line with what makes you happen.
Or the idea, as many of us have heard in a different way, if you don't pursue your dreams,
you will undoubtedly spend your days working to help someone else build theirs.
Without you taking control, taking initiative,
life will and you will become a pawn on the chessboard of life.
So ask the questions.
You know, look in the mirror and delve into the aspirations of the person looking back in.
From social events, sure, to your significant other, to your work or business, to your overall
life goal.
What matters to you?
In these various arenas of your life, what does success look like?
What does fulfillment feel like?
And once you have that blueprint in your mind, you are now on the road to ensuring its construction.
The construction not of a world you were given, but of a world you chose.
