There's power and simplification.
Not because you can't handle the complex,
but because too much noise drowns out the meaning.
It gets in the way of the things that actually make the difference.
Our blessing and curse is the finitude of our time.
So by default, that makes the word,
know, a gatekeeper to the contentment we feel in our lives.
What are you keeping out?
What are you saving space for?
Clarity is not a luxury, but a necessity.
And when one has limited capacity,
they must both cherish and protect it.
So why does this matter?
It matters because when you simplify things,
the path is never as intimidating.
The problem is never unsolvable.
The opportunity is never too far away.
It matters because we dress the solutions up in irrelevant detail and then call them the problem.
We don't see things as what they are.
We see them as stories.
We tell ourselves.
We see too much.
And it just so happens that the biggest leaps forward one can take in life or the result of not secret formulas or hidden answers,
but in freeing ourselves of that excess.
Saying no to the wrong things so that we can say.
say yes to the right things.
Underneath the stacks and accumulation of nothing is something.
There's something to the notion that the road to recovery is always a single decision away.
That it's already there.
But you just haven't been able to acknowledge, to choose it.
When life becomes convoluted, there's this tendency to think, I am the problem.
I am broken.
I am incapable of X or Y or Z.
And it's like, no, you've just let so much in
that what was once obvious is now buried.
You're looking at the giant ocean before you,
forgetting that a very tiny boat can traverse it.
Basics.
Let's ask the question,
where is it I most want to go?
and what would one step in that direction look like?
Sometimes we have to go knowing that mile 10 will have its monsters.
In mile 50 will have its setbacks.
But to not take step one in anticipation of those future problems,
of something way down the road is letting that excess in.
Simplicity is the goal. Simplicity.
Ask yourself, can you start?
Beginning grants you one of the greatest weapons to possess, an ability to adjust, the ability
to adapt, the ability to utilize the now.
And this is not to dismiss the pain and difficulty associated with our most challenging times,
it's to remind you that during those times you feel lost or closed in, you don't need to
to reinvent the world to your left and right.
It's not bigger than you.
So much of the time it's about composing yourself enough
to reach out for the light switch
that will illuminate the path just enough
for you to look up and walk right out the front door.
80% of life is simply showing up.
Because no matter what you do, and this is such an interesting truth, it's like no matter how much you love what you do, there are days where you just aren't in it.
You just mentally, maybe even physically, you're just not there.
And those are the days when it's most important to start.
And the expectation doesn't need to be the world.
The expectation doesn't need to be that it's something game-changing or revolutionary, but the expectation has to be that you are the,
the kind of person that even when you don't want to, you sit yourself in front of that computer
and you just start typing. And maybe nothing comes from it. Maybe something does, but you showed
up. You know, when it was most difficult, you showed up. And the interesting thing is that sometimes
that situation is exactly when the best stuff comes. You know, believe it or not, when we don't want to be
there or we're really using, you know, all the discipline we have left in our body to make it happen.
Great things come from those moments. You know, it applies to every single thing we do, like all of
these concepts. You know, we're all different. We're all, you know, in different worlds with different
narratives, different stories, different priorities. But, you know, that will always be a commonality.
There are times when you don't want to do what you most need to do. And the ability, you know,
to, and actually I'm going to backstep, like, it is an identity thing.
It is seeing yourself as that, you know, the person that makes it happen.
The person that finds it within themselves to show up, to be there, to just do something,
to get the ball rolling.
Let's look at this one simple, singular concept.
You can always be doing more than you're doing.
whether you're sitting there or whether you are in a world of hurt going through hell
there is a way to level up there is a next level there's something more there is the next
stair in the staircase and sometimes we just simply need to be reminded that because the default
is comfortable even when you push yourself you push yourself to a level you've never
pushed before well guess what the ceiling becomes the
the floor. Your new normal, you adapt very quickly. And sometimes you need that whispering in
your ear. Hey, you're comfortable. You can do a little bit more. You can always do a little
bit more. There's no rule that says you can't be one second faster. There's no rule that says
you can't push a little bit harder. And, you know, that message I keep in my back pocket
because every time I draw from it, I improve.
My life improves.
And, you know, if you have aspirations, which I know everyone listening to this or watching this does, right?
That's why we watch this content.
That's why I create it.
That's why you guys do what you do.
We want more.
We know what we can get from life.
We know that infinite pool of possibility to draw from.
So why waste it?
And the more you get that reminder, no matter what you're doing, hey, there's more in you.
Period.
That will never be a false statement.
There is more in you.
And I'm really implementing that right now into the creative aspect of my life.
I went from one video every 10 days to one every day.
And there's a growing pain.
And, you know, sometimes it's difficult.
Sometimes it's, you know, it's tough.
to be able to create at that level.
But the reward is through the roof.
And the change, it occurs quickly.
And I was talking to someone about it and he says,
well, that'll be nothing when you're doing three a day.
And it's like, that's the way you need to look at the world.
There's always more in you.
And if you don't remind yourself of that,
it just goes untapped.
Like again, I could easily see a situation
where I just put out one video a day
or one video every 10 days for the rest of my life.
I'd never know.
I'd never know what that other door could unlock.
So whether it's running, whether it's work, whether it's at home,
whether it's a relationship, whether it's something you're building,
whether it's something you want to create, whether it's something you want to stop doing,
you can always be doing it a little bit better, a little bit faster.
And that's what this video is about, and I hope you remember that.
I hope this is that whispering in your ear that you need, you know, to remind yourself,
hey, you know, I'm operating here at a fraction of what I could be doing.
I'm tiptoeing right now.
I could be sprinting.
There's a saying that just because you've spent a long time making a mistake
doesn't mean you need to continue making it.
There's an incredible advantage in life for those who can separate past and future.
Who can recognize sunk costs and walk away, walk away from the past,
move on to new things.
But here's the challenge, right?
Like so many things our instinct is to preserve.
It's, yeah, but I've invested so many years.
I've spent X amount of dollars and maybe I don't like where I'm at,
but look how long it's taken me to get here.
Well, here's the reality, that time is gone.
That money is not coming back,
no matter what you do or what direction you take
from here on out.
There's no reason to think you have to maintain
the same trajectory or hold on to a specific idea.
identity or pattern of behavior yesterday isn't the focal point here.
The goal is simpler.
What matters now and how will you get there now?
You've grown, you've evolved, you've changed, and your targets have shifted,
so why shouldn't you?
The idea of sunk cost is so important because it's essentially realizing that
you're not indebted to the resources you've spent or exhausted.
There's no need to be a slave to previous decisions that you've made. No, just chalk it up as an integral step in your learning process, an aspect of growth, and move forward to what matters, to what you care about.
If that seems obvious, I challenge you to think about the decisions you've made over the last year, and I guarantee you, you've let factors affect your decision-making that are irrelevant to your goals.
Because we feel this camaraderie with yesterday, like there's a debt to be paid, but man, life is too short to run in place.
If it's not pushing you forward, drop it.
If it's not what you need, forget it.
In other words, don't be one of those people that wakes up and makes the same mistake every single day because you've spent a long time making it.
See, reality only exists in your head.
and that's why it's beautiful.
You can unlock the cell door and walk out.
Don't lose sight of the greatest gift you have.
The new beginning that lives in every second
where you can take a turn you've never taken before.
Remove the mask and play a role you've never played.
Let that sense of excitement pull you to new things.
Let go of what you can't.
and pursue what you can.
Forget the time spent.
Think of now.
Where can you invest now?
Your surroundings didn't magically arrive.
You chose them.
And you can just as easily take that wheel and leave.
Simple formula.
What is best for you and how do you get there?
Not where you feel obligated to be or expected to be or pressure to be.
Where do you need to be?
Everything else is...
Everything else is noise.
Everything else is a rope, keeping your ship on shore, and you are not confined to that harbor
or yesterday's destination.
You're built to chase the horizon, follow your curiosity into the sunset.
You don't make decisions based on yesterday's story.
You sculpt it with tomorrow's possibility.
I was recently reading a book called The Boys in the Boat.
about nine American rowers from Washington that won gold in the 1936 Olympics.
There's this incredible exchange at one point in the book
between the main character Joe, who's part of that historic boat,
and a man named George Pocock,
who was not only a brilliant rowing mind that helped the team out,
but he also had his own business crafting in making the boats or rowing shells,
as they were called, and he would make them and send them to
to schools all over the country.
And so Joe's deal is that he's this natural talent, right?
Strong kid, tough as nails, but just seems to lose his composure from time to time.
When he's in the boat, there are these moments of jaw-dropping excellence,
unprecedented speed across the water.
And then there are moments when he loses his focus.
And the boat sort of follows suit, right?
They're inconsistent.
And so George Pocock, being the rowing,
that he has made a commitment to see if he could help Joe figure that out, right?
The mental game.
So he calls Joe into his shop.
And he starts showing him how he puts together these highly coveted boats, showing him the tools and the pieces and how it's nothing short of an art.
He has sort of this divine respect for his craft.
And at one point he pulls out a cedar plank that he'll be using to make one of the boats.
And he points to the growth rings in the wood, mentioning that they take.
tell the story of the tree's 2,000 year life.
So here's a quick quote from the exchange.
He says, their thickness and thinness spoke of hard years of bitter struggle,
intermittent with rich years of sudden growth.
The different colors spoke of various soils and minerals that the tree's roots had
encountered, some harsh and stunting, some rich and nourishing.
Flaws and irregularities told how the tree is.
endured fires and lightning strikes, windstorms, and infestations, and yet continued to grow.
Almost as if there was something sacred about it. The wood taught us about survival, about overcoming
difficulty, about prevailing over adversity, but it also taught us something about the underlying
reason for surviving in the first place. Something about infinite beauty, underlying grace, about
things larger and greater than ourselves, about the reasons we are all here. I paused after
reading that and thought for a minute or two, what is it about those rowers crossing the finish
line after giving everything they have that touches us so deeply? What is it about a cedar
tree standing the test of time, those 2,000 years of adversity only to try to try to
triumphantly pierce the sky when all is said and done, it moves us because it tells us what we already know, yet forget.
In our hearts believe, but often fail to see, that we are greater than the sum of our parts.
Ernest Becker, when he was touched on the aspect of the human predicament, he famously noted that we are simultaneously wormed.
and gods, earthly and divine.
And I think it's in those moments,
the crossing of finished lines,
the times we did more than we ever thought possible,
or looked back and smiled about all we overcame.
It's in these times we're able to transcend the mundane, the everyday.
We're able to remind ourselves that, sure,
Some aspects of us are merely human, but no aspects are ordinary.
The greatest power one can witness is that of the human spirit, bending but never breaking,
making light of the odds and an example of the predictable.
So know that whether now is difficult or not,
it's part of your journey, a defining chapter in the incredible story.
story of your life. And if you find yourself up, cherish that. It's more precious than gold.
If you find yourself down, remember that you'll look back on this growth ring of your life
and be grateful that it gave you that which smooth sailing never could. Because at the end of the day,
all you have is what's in front of you, the next move, the next step, and the faith that all these
little pieces will someday mean something, that standing the test of time will speak for itself.
At your finish line, whatever that may be, it will. You'll look back and see that without your knowing
or awareness, they propelled you into the current moment. They gave life to something beyond the realm
of worms and dirt, beyond the realm of humans operating in their day-to-day world. No, they allowed you
for a moment in time
to touch the infinite
if only to prove to yourself
that you could
life is built
by quiet believers
those who see what is not
and transform
all that is
who poke holes
in truth and embrace
the absurd
the ones who dream while awake and cherish every.
See, for the quiet believers, it's not about talking.
There's nothing to really talk about.
Words are just noise.
It's footsteps that inspire.
It is the journey that tells the story.
And what quiet believers understand is the subtle,
line that separates truth and perception.
They get that dancing to a beat means sometimes you dance alone.
And as Nietzsche points out, sometimes they're even thought to be crazy by those who can't
hear the music.
In this life, no one comes up, places a hand on your shoulder and pronounces that your future
is great.
No one looks you in the eyes and says they can see the life you'll build, money you'll make,
or shape you'll be in.
No, that doesn't happen until the next life.
The one you've yet to create.
So patience.
Patience, quiet believer, the abstract is just as real as the hand in front of your face.
Just with a little more road to travel.
The sun is as real at night as it is when it rises.
Things are simply not always what they see.
The impossible, the unimaginable.
They're stories, stories that need to be transcribed from one's mind to the paper in front
of them.
They need a delivery mechanism and quiet believers.
They quietly scream with a megaphone.
so loud the world can't help but listen because ready or not it will be shaped and reshaped again
every moment is a new beginning they are the wizards that flew around in a young author's head
before she courageously shared the magic the feeling of that game-winning shot making its way
through the basket after school in a north carolina driveway
An entrepreneur starting a bookstore in his garage,
but seeing not books, but accessibility, time a better way.
See, the truth about life is some created and some merely react to it.
And while you, you hold the pen.
So dream away, quiet believer.
Because you have a world to construct.
Mountains to climb.
Oceans to cross and stories to tell.
Quiet believer, today is yours.
And those changes they'll propel you.
The naysayers will inspire you, the stars they will guide you.
Shining bright is a reminder that you are made of the very elements lighting your path.
You are an architect.
Not talking or explaining or promising,
but simply showing, leading, earning respect from yourself,
attention from the masses, and a place in history.
Because, quiet believer, looking back,
if you found the courage to change even one thing,
every set will have been worth the fight.
