What makes human beings different from birds, cats, dogs, and chimps is that we understand the finitude of life.
We get it, how temporary, how fleeting it all is.
But we do, however, as we get caught up in the trivialities of our day-to-day, need to be reminded of that fact.
That there is no forever in this world.
because sometimes we wait like we can afford to wait.
And we drag our feet like there will be a next time.
There are no next times.
For me, especially when it came to doing the things I knew I needed to do,
but was worried about or nervous to begin.
I had to adjust my mindset.
I had to learn to see missed opportunities as tangible.
as though they're real.
And that's the hard part.
It's easy to dismiss something that never happened.
Oh, I didn't go.
End of thought, end of story.
It's easy to rationalize that as insignificant.
How could something you didn't do be important?
But when you view what you need to do
or where you want to go as an already existing path,
then to not walk down that path is very real.
It's a decision.
The next question is, well, what if I'm not ready to walk down that path?
I'd catch myself thinking that all the time.
Right?
Well, here's the deal.
For the big things in life, we simply never feel ready.
There is no fully prepared.
There will never be a fully prepared.
Because we learn as we go.
How could we know all there is to know
and understand all there is to understand
when the path is the teacher.
It's like expecting a seed to grow without ever having planted it.
Life is about being in motion, letting the world shape you.
It's less about being handed a map as it is about being the Lewis and Clark of your own story.
Understanding that what awaits is intimidating, it's unknown, sometimes terrifying.
but simultaneously the adventure.
That thing in your heart and your soul that pulls at you
that asks you to be a little bolder, a little stronger,
ask you to unshackle yourself from the worry and begin your pursuit.
That is your frontier.
And sure some will simply watch that clock tick away.
They'll never set out on the journey
they'll stay where they are, citing the difficulty,
maybe the irrationality of that which they don't know.
It's all crazy, right?
They'll spend their days a little safer every step,
a little more predictable,
but they'll also never truly see the show.
They won't understand how beautiful those views are
and how the darkness of those valleys become our strength.
Time should have been their reason to go,
and instead, if,
was the story that never came to be.
Like Jim Rohn has alluded to, you think going is expensive,
wait until you see the cost of not going, of not trying,
of not walking down the path that will unlock your mind
and change the way you see the world.
You know what that is for you.
Let's be honest, we all do.
It's not about answers, it's about commitment
to willfully embrace that which we do not understand.
We don't get how those pieces stack up.
But it's about letting yourself be the student and life, the teacher.
This, I believe, when our finite time is up on this rock rotating around the sun,
will be what makes us smile, makes it all worth it.
The memories we made, the adventure, the times we thought we were done, but somehow kept moving.
Thought we'd lost, but somehow found away.
That's our power.
And if we're the authors of our own stories, the only thing truly unimaginable is the refusal
to pick up that pen and open the book.
Don't deprive yourself of the opportunity to explore the depths of your imagination.
Don't hide from your greatness.
Don't let what could go wrong cheat you out of all that can go right.
As the saying goes, you only live once.
But if you live it right, once is enough.
So don't stay because of the clock, go because of the clock, live because of the clock.
Its hands are pointing you to that place you most need.
The other day, I heard someone say that they've found some of the most important things in their life
in places where they weren't supposed to find them, which is interesting to me.
one, because that seems to happen a lot.
And two, because it's like who creates the parameters around what we're supposed to do?
Who sets the rules to begin with?
You know, I'm continuously blown away by our tendency to create imaginary walls and then live within them.
To build steel bars around ourselves that separate the now.
from future opportunity.
In one of the first videos I ever made,
I talked about this nagging feeling of discomfort
that occurred right after I left the corporate world
and started my own business.
And at that point, to call it a business,
was giving myself a lot of credit.
I was basically just starting to make videos
and put them out on social media.
But I would run in the middle of the day.
Right, that was my thing.
Right through Boston along the Charles River,
I loved running.
But I would run.
I couldn't help feeling this guilt like I wasn't supposed to.
Like I was doing the wrong thing, doing what I was taught not to do.
My whole life, I learned that you go to school or work during the day.
That's the right thing.
In a decade removed, I've grown and I've learned.
I know how crazy it sounds now.
But it took me a long time to even enjoy it and not feel like some deviant who was
leaving everything he'd worked for up to that point to go and fail spectacularly.
The supposed to followed me around like a shadow.
Constantly trying to pull me back in.
Freedom to me is separating oneself from this exact sentiment.
It's doing what's best for you, exploring your own worldview,
blazing as the saying goes your own trail,
because you'll find very few supposed tos there.
I think this is a microcosm of a greater truth.
The most important things we do in life,
our pivotal moments, our epiphanies are found
where we weren't supposed to find them.
Because what we're supposed to do is very rarely, methodically thought out.
It's simply the norm.
It's marching orders.
It's what the crowd is doing.
It's what will help us blend in.
And it's interesting, as I've pushed further and further into life, I've come to believe that rarely is what's best all one thing or all another.
It's working to find a balance that supports your ideal life trajectory.
That balance will lean substantially more one way or another depending on who you are and what's important to you.
And so, I'm not suggesting one always needs to be different.
Or if something is common, it's wrong.
No, thousands of years of evolution and societal stressors have in many ways narrowed down for us what's effective and efficient.
It's helped us survive.
And to dismiss this outright is obviously counterproductive, but it does explain why any break from these norms physically hurts.
We associate them with survival.
And here lies the divide between surviving, which we are supposed to do,
and excelling, which is to embark upon a different game altogether.
Survival is mitigating risk.
Excelling is hunting down the opportunity.
Survival is blending in.
Excelling is asking, what about me is unique and how can I dive into that fully?
Survival is not having to innovate on any large scale because the instructions are
clear and laid out for you.
Excelling is asking, now that I know the rules, how can I bend and maybe even break them,
so that I can improve my life and the lives of those around me?
And I'll continue with the same example, because I know a lot of folks find themselves
in a similar situation now.
I wasn't supposed to deviate from my previous life trajectory, my education, my career track,
my 401k, but I did, and I found something I otherwise would never have, an ability to work on what I enjoy and share that with others.
I wasn't supposed to leave home, the Northeast. The most important people in my life lived there.
But I found comfort, peace, and new beginnings down here that I never would have experienced.
I wasn't supposed to do many of the things I'm doing today. It was a genuine curiosity.
and a willingness to chase down what's meaningful, and the beautiful thing is, anyone can do that.
Every single one of us can detach and depart from the supposed to's in our lives.
And hey, maybe some of them should be there.
Maybe some are adding value and stability that you need and maybe even cherish.
But I can promise some of them aren't.
And it's worth a look.
It's worth thinking about those things.
Where can we be a little braver, a little more courageous?
Where can we venture outside the scope of what we've subconsciously deemed every day life?
I love the notion that there's always more in you.
You just need to give yourself permission to pursue it.
It only makes sense that no job.
journey begins until we give it the green light. The world is yours once you give yourself
permission to pursue it. So what are you conceding? What have you accepted as fact that upon
further review you might find to be fiction? There's a world of infinite opportunity waiting for you.
Just past your acceptance of the way things are. Just beyond all those.
supposed to.
Today's episode is brought you by
David. So I'm training for 100K
next week. And when
training volume increases, the way
that mine has, nutrition becomes
a much bigger part of the equation.
So whether I'm running,
hiking, traveling, leaving the gym,
or just trying to find ways to get more protein
intake throughout my day, I
continue to reach for
David. Their goal bars have
28 grams of protein,
150 total calories and zero grams of sugar.
On top of that, 75% of all the calories in the bar come from protein.
So for something you could throw in a backpack or your pocket so easily, that's pretty insane.
And then the icing on the cake is they actually taste good.
So if you're trying to keep your protein intake high without sending your total calories through the roof,
go to Davidprotein.com slash eddy.
That's Davidprotein.com.

Greatness is not this wonderful,
esoteric, elusive, godlike feature
that only this special among us will ever taste.
It's something that truly exists in all of us.
That's a quote by Will Smith,
who's had his ups and downs and everything in between,
but funny enough,
That just makes his message more integral to the theme here.
Everyone has the opportunity to reach out and touch greatness.
I believe that with all my heart.
Which begs the question then,
why does so few ever cross that threshold?
Well, check this out.
Building something meaningful,
and my mind is the same thing as a run uphill.
It can be lonely.
Exhausting.
You see nothing but the dirt road in front of you.
It's bleak.
Very bleak.
Until you reach the summit in our gifted of you so stunning
that you're reminded why you hung in to begin with.
Why you battled every step, the sun, the sweat,
your beating heart, your body screaming to stop.
The visuals go from dirt to stunning 360-degree sunset mountain views in what seems like an instant.
But how many hold on until that moment occurs?
See, it's a decision, not divine intervention.
When you feel like letting go, it's not that life has let you down.
It's that you've not yet reached the summit that will act as your on switch.
Life is darkest before dawn for a reason.
You have to really want those things you say you do,
as destiny is both an extended hand
and a gatekeeper of sorts.
I was recently talking to a friend of mine.
In the middle of building a company, it's been a journey.
And right now he's in that so-called valley of despair.
He is running directly up.
uphill. He's had a few promising, life-changing deals in the palm of his hand that fell apart at the one-yard line.
Right? It's like, he's there. He's so close. But look, it doesn't matter how mentally tough you are.
Practicality always comes knocking at the door. How long can you sustain this, it will whisper.
You have a wife and children. Are you being reckless? What will your family think? What will your friends think?
This is too lonely.
You're having panic attacks.
You're sick with stress.
And he's telling me all this and I'm like, preach, man.
Like, I know the feeling.
Then he said something that cut through me.
He goes, Eddie, why is it that when you need people to be there for you the most,
they're nowhere to be found?
When you're at your lowest and support and love and reassurance
would be worth more than you.
than gold when all you want is to be told everything will be fine why is there silence and the pain in his voice it
almost made me choke up you can tell he's just fighting demons and my god isn't that the truth right the
greatest victories are attached to the loneliest of times how often do we hear don't stop believe in yourself
Keep going.
All critical messages.
But without the context, what's their value?
Why?
Why do they matter to begin with?
Well, because bringing things into the world
before they exist is excruciatingly lonely.
No one understands your vision.
And the curveball is, it's not their fault.
How could they?
The frustration of being the only one who understands
is the cost of admission.
Don't stop.
Why?
Because every ounce of rationality in your body knows
this feels like beating your head against a wall
and it wants to mitigate pain.
Who cares about the long term?
Believe in yourself.
Why?
Because waking up morning after morning
with what seems like nothing to show for your time
and energy and sacrifice
is a devastation
few will ever get.
Keep going.
Why?
Because every off-ramp
starts to look like its own little paradise,
old ways of living,
safe jobs, routines, and patterns,
they cry out for you to return.
That's why we manufacture belief.
Not because it's cool to write mantras
and Sharpie on the bathroom mirror.
It's not an Instagram play.
It's because if you are not there for yourself, if you lose sight of your why, life merely collapses around you, period.
If you don't green light each day with the top of the mountain in mind, it's over.
And man, I just sat there with it for a second.
After a few seconds go by, you know, responded, you have to depersonalize this because it's not about you.
and what an odd thing to say
right a friend of mine going through it
but hear me out
people only believe what they see
even people close to us
if someone walked up to me with no proof
of anything and said Eddie I have a ten million dollar business
in my head which funny enough happens more than you might think
you can't do anything but smile and say
hell yeah go get them
because every innovation starts
starts out as a concept.
But the reality, as we all know, concepts don't put money in the bank.
It's not about you.
It speaks to human nature.
This is what building something feels like.
Oh, and remember, when you connect the dots,
when things start taking off,
and my friend, if you hang in there, they will.
Many of those same people will be right back beside you.
Like nothing ever happened.
Like they just fast forwarded through the hell.
you walk through and instinctively maybe you'll take that personally it will feel cheap and fake
and annoying but again it's how the story goes it's life in the big city the ones who are actually there
through thick and thin which i'm sure you can count on one hand if they exist at all they're the
exception not the rule they are worth more than gold everyone else are just humans being
This is your transformation.
It's your undertaking.
This gauntlet, my friend, is for you and you alone.
I had someone recently help me out with the channel, right?
Make some thumbnails, which is the little picture you click to watch a video.
And the idea is you make them and then you test them against thumbnails that already exists.
Like book covers.
Which ones inclined people to click?
Right?
In the vast majority of the ones he made, quote,
quote, lost, they underperformed compared to the thumbnails that were already existing on the channel.
And he's like, man, I spent half a day on this. This is devastating.
I feel like a loser. Like I'm wasting my time. And I'm like, brother, try seven years of this stuff.
It's not personal. Nothing works until it does. This is the cost. You move forward.
relentlessly until something hits.
See, I've walked down that road.
And not because I'm a hero or a badass
for continuing on, anyone can.
But that's the thing, anyone can.
And there are days where I wake up numb and sad and frustrated,
you bet.
Where I become disillusioned,
where things aren't happening fast enough.
But what do you do?
You collect yourself.
You remember how incredible it is to get to be doing this to begin with,
to be adding value to amazing people all over the world with unrealized dreams and untapped potential.
You tell yourself that it could theoretically all end today if I wanted to,
could go back to something safer and easier.
I'm not in prison.
But I'm choosing this.
Trading comfort for impact, for upside.
When I'm in those so-called valleys of despair, I remember why I signed up, the category of greatness I'm aiming for.
You think that's free or easy?
No, life is trade-offs.
The best things find themselves attached to the highest price tags.
Never forget that.
So when you find yourself in those moments, I need you to grapple for perspective.
I heard Hermosie recently described these moments as the inflection point that would drive most away.
He says when he feels like that, he reminds himself, most people wouldn't endure or sustain this.
Most people pack it up right here.
They don't want the stress or anxiety or uncertainty.
So congrats, you were just gifted an opportunity.
Make the decision to be different.
We started with the Will Smith quote, so let's end with one.
He says, make a choice of what you want, who you want to be, and how you're going to do it.
The universe will get out of your way.
So once you decide, commit, advance relentlessly.
Sure, you're signing up for responsibility.
You're signing up for chaos, for unknowns, but once you decide,
you're also signing up for the greatest adventure of your life.
and given those options, I'll take the upside.
I'll take the possibility.
I'll take the hill.
This episode is brought you by Peory.
As I get older and my training increases,
I'm learning to focus on health
outside of just the standard fitness and nutrition.
In Omega-3s have been a huge part of that, right?
So Peoria's exceptional in a lot of areas.
They have great collagen, creatine,
protein powder that's really good.
But because of the inflammation that I have in my lower body,
the omega-3s have been super helpful.
Their omega's give you a high dose of EPA and DHA.
And then aside for managing inflammation,
they're also great for brain health
and long-term cardiovascular performance.
They're also incredibly transparent.
So every batch is third-party tested for contaminants.
And if you look at each bottle,
there's a little QR code here

If you believe the answer is within an arm's reach,
It is.
Let me explain what I mean here.
This is the closest I've come to in years of getting into kind of a back and forth on social media, on Instagram.
But I thought, you know, let's not go down that road.
Take a walk.
Think about it.
Play pros and cons with your point of view.
And see if in an hour, hour and a half, you still feel the same way.
and I took my walk and I came back
and I can tell you
that I absolutely, unequivocally, still feel the same way
and I want to dive into it with you.
See, anytime you talk about making the most of what you have,
anytime you talk about not being a victim,
anytime you talk about always blaming yourself
because no one else can fix your life,
there's this sort of subtle, unspoken, unease.
It's hard to almost articulate.
You know, like, how can you tell people in adverse situations to go figure it out, right?
Have faith.
Go pick up the pieces along the way.
You don't know what they've been through.
You have no idea, right?
There are some people out there in immense pain and suffering.
Who are you to advocate for internal strength in an unfair world?
Which is basically the crux of that Instagram comment that prompted me to grab the mic and yap a little bit.
And you know, in its own unique way, I think it's correct.
There's merit to that, right?
There's misfortune that I just can't and don't understand.
Look, I grew up and live in the West.
The most difficult decision I made today was, do I make my own coffee or do I go to Starbucks?
I'm just being real with you.
I've always had running water.
I have access to food and shelter.
I grew up in a middle class family in the suburbs of L.A.
And then Boston.
Two parents in the home.
Always had lunch in my lunchbox going to school.
I'm relatively healthy.
minus the occasional injury or headache.
I don't know what it's like to open my eyes and hope I feel well enough to function that day.
That's suffering that I cannot relate to.
But I know that regardless of one's pain, this has to be true.
A choice must be made.
perhaps the most important decision one is presented with,
that we are all during those times presented with.
In the frame it, I'll start with a quote from Victor Frankel.
He says, to draw an analogy,
a man's suffering is similar to the behavior of gas.
If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber,
it will fill the chamber completely and evenly.
no matter how big the chamber.
Thus, suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind,
no matter whether the suffering is great or little.
Therefore, the size of human suffering is absolutely relative.
What he's saying there is that even though our suffering is not, quote, unquote, equal,
and it's certainly not, in our own lives, in our own world,
it feels the same, right?
which is a strange thing to even entertain, right,
that my suffering or your suffering feels the same as Jeff Bezos is suffering.
It's like, how, right?
They're vastly different, different problems, different pains.
So I think, you know, long story short, comparing is a fool's errand.
We're not here to be judges of who's hurting more or why.
No, I think the message is much simpler.
When we're in those moments of pain or look, maybe it's not even moments.
Maybe it's a continuation, right?
For years, someone's been fighting or weren't given a great start.
They don't have financial resources, family, friends not around, sick.
You name it, right?
There are a million things we go through.
Question is, do you point out with anger or do you point in with hope?
Do you look to transfer your pain to others or use your internal strength to build what was
once not there.
And this is the message, by the way,
that I've pondered and contemplated
over and over and over again.
It doesn't matter how I slice it
and dice it. That's where I land, right?
It's never beneficial to blame.
Just like it's always detrimental
when others
clap along with you, like baby seals,
while you're dodging accountability.
It never helps for someone to say,
hey, you know,
this isn't your...
problem. This is beyond you. You're helpless. Let's be mad together. Hey, we weren't dealt a good
hand. I'm sorry. That's the way it is. That in the short term might feel good because you don't
have to fix the problem. You can remove accountability. But in the long term, you are hurting
yourself. You are disempowering yourself, disarming yourself. Removing the one thing that can change
your life and that's personal agency.
Again, when you're at that rock bottom, you have two options.
Own it or blame, period.
And you can hear that and think, what?
It's not my fault he walked out of my life.
Hey, I certainly didn't give myself this health problem.
Hey, I didn't pick to be born or grow up in this neighborhood.
True, true, true, check, check.
This is not about blame and it has nothing to do with blame.
It has everything to do with ownership, with empowering yourself.
This is about saying, I didn't put myself here, but I sure as hell can take myself there.
Not enough people are comfortable with that message.
From every corner of life, you get the opposite.
You have politicians saying, hey, son, the deck.
is stacked against you.
You're powerless.
But, hey, vote for me and I'll help.
You have, you know, the media,
you have TV showing you tragedy after tragedy,
pointing fingers, blaming others, right?
Let's make sure people live in fear
so they have no control over their own destinations.
So they feel small and helpless
in a world that's bigger than them.
You have social media algorithms, right?
Positioning victimhood as currency.
Hey, look how much.
marginalized I am.
Poor me, right guys?
Clicks, retweets,
likes. That's the magic.
This way of looking at the world
is destroying us.
It's destroying us personally.
It's destroying our communities.
It's destroying the fabric of society, right?
You can't have a functioning society
with no personal agency or individual.
accountability.
There's just no foundation to build on.
Everything starts with the individual.
Everything.
As the saying goes, no one is coming to save you.
No one's coming to fix all your problems.
Even the ones you didn't create.
No one's going to fix a cycle of poverty or crime or obesity.
You have to want that.
Now, is that complex?
Yeah, absolutely.
I'm not delusional enough to think that I can solve these things on a microphone.
I'm not.
But what I can tell you is I see its complexity the same way I see a car is complex.
I can't put a car together.
There's thousands of parts.
But I can tell you with conviction that car is not going anywhere without the engine or motor.
Just like your willingness to own the situation, your personal situation,
Your agency is the engine or motor in your life.
You go nowhere without it.
There is no vehicle without that ownership.
In other words, everything revolves around that phrase,
what can I personally do about it?
So when you're frustrated with the current moment
or the pieces you were given,
and trust me, I can empathize, man.
man, life is unfair. It's brutally unfair. Remember those two options. I mean, point out, blame, and beg to be saved,
or you can point in and find a way to capture light in darkness. Anytime you want to transfer
accountability, you are a thief robbing yourself of your own strength. Anytime someone tells you that the
world is the problem and not you. They are a distraction pointing you away from the North Star.
You need to follow. If you believe the answer is within an arm's reach, you are correct.
Because you are that answer.
