Starting point is 00:01:05 You don't. You don't even need to be close. You just can't do nothing. You need to convince your feet to start moving. You need to generate momentum for some type of outcome. Because what that data, what that outcome will tell you is, yes, keep doing more of that thing. Or no, reel it in and try something different. But either way, progress is reliant upon that information.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Going equal solutions. Staying equals hoping, wishing lost opportunity. Every journey is a long winding road. It's comprised of wrong terms and dead ends. There will be maintenance required issues to be resolved. in narratives to be rewritten. None of which, by the way, is beyond you. So long as you take these things as they arrive one by one,
Starting point is 00:02:13 you open up your world to allow them in. And you might look at where you want to be and think, that's a lot. That's a world away. No. It's a few tiny decisions away repeated daily. There's a Greek proverb that suggests beginning is half the battle. Why? Well, because convincing yourself you're capable is not easy. Trusting yourself completely hurts. But it's not until we come around and greenlight the process.
Starting point is 00:02:54 It's not until we give ourselves permission that life begins. How beautiful is the fact that we don't have to have all the answers. Not even close. we just need enough courage to step out into the storm, to brave the wind and the rain. I frequently allude to this transformation. The first time I spoke in front of an audience was terrified, the first few times, actually. Then after showing up, getting reps in, and reflecting,
Starting point is 00:03:28 I realized, okay, I've earned a bit of confidence here. I continue to go to speak, more reps, more reps. Okay, now we're, well, I guess now we're getting comfortable with this. I'm not up all night the night before, rehearsing, pacing in hotel rooms. I had a little more trust in my ability. I continue, more reps, more reps, more reps. Okay, now, now I kind of enjoy this. I've broken through.
Starting point is 00:04:01 More reps, more reps, more reps. Now there's enough comfortability where I can look at what's in front of me and start asking, well now how do I refine this to stand out? How do I make this so valuable that it becomes the 1% of the 1% of the 1% of the 1%? I've worked hard for my baseline. I feel good. Now, how do I chisel away the little elements of mediocrity
Starting point is 00:04:28 sprinkled in there? How do I pull them out one piece at a time? It is a testament to going, to allowing yourself to experience life and data points and ups and downs, all that help you refine the process. They are the journey. Can you do all that overnight?
Starting point is 00:04:52 No, absolutely not, but you can always meet yourself where you are and win that battle. You can always become a little bit stronger, setting the stage for the next level and the next and the next. In fact, when you're in it, it feels so intuitive that you don't even realize
Starting point is 00:05:09 what you're doing. One battle at a time. You're just stepping on the stone in front of you. Think about it. You don't defeat a storm. You simply navigate through each gust of wind and every drop of rain. You pick apart and outlast the pieces that make up the storm, and you are capable of that.
Starting point is 00:05:33 You're made for that. Again, when you give yourself permission to enter the arena that is adversity, that is the unknown. Success is oddly intuitive. It just kind of appears in front of you one obstacle at a time. Or one opportunity at a time, depending on how you're looking at. The problem is that too many of us stay on the sidelines. I think you know this, right?
Starting point is 00:06:04 And when you wrap your mind around the fact that stagnation is the only adversary, you become full. free. You unlock what you could be and always should have been. I mean, how brilliant the mind, that incomprehensible network behind your eyes, capable of both putting a man into orbit and navigating the depths of the vast oceans that surround us. It is in and of itself a miracle. But what if I was a miracle? audacious enough to suggest, temporarily taking that miracle,
Starting point is 00:06:49 that masterpiece, that network behind your eyes, and shutting it off. For a moment, hitting pause on the defense mechanisms, actively painting what-ifs in worst-case scenarios, begging you to play small and seemingly always prioritizing safety over meaning. What if I made the case that the best thing you could possibly do is start now and ask questions later. Begin the journey, start the ride, immerse yourself in the river's current. Ensure you don't know where you'll end up, but it won't be where you currently
Starting point is 00:07:27 stand. And that new you contains wisdom. It contains that accrued data to improve upon. It contains the 2.0. And so the key now and forever is not to expect all the answers before you step foot out the door. It's not to be sure everything will fall into place. It's simply to have the courage to move into the great unknown without any reassurances. It's you, your belief in yourself and variables unknown. you don't have to get it right the first time. You just can't do. The world you're dreaming of is ready when you are.
Starting point is 00:08:34 There's a mountain range I can see from my rooftop. And on those mornings when I'm up there, sipping my coffee, looking out, I see them. Same peaks, same shadows, same silent challenge that seems to call. I've always wanted to climb it since I've been here. And not just a metaphor for the hard things in life, but literally. It's a hike known as Tom's Thumb.
Starting point is 00:09:07 And I've always wanted to go to the top. I just haven't made the time, right? But, you know, I've sort of fantasized about being on top of that mountain and looking back at my home from that vantage point as the sun is coming. up. Kind of the inverse of the view I get from my roof every morning. I think something in me knows that the mountain is not waiting to be discovered. It's there. It's very clearly there. It's waiting on me. It's whispering, hey, ready when you are. See, most of us wait.
Starting point is 00:09:55 We wait for clarity, for confidence, for the timing to be perfect, but the truth is the climb doesn't begin when the path is easy. It begins when you choose to take that first step. A power, check this out, that is always within your control. Fate whispers. ready when you are. I have a friend who works in the oil industry. Very rough conditions, right? Long weeks away from home, sunup to sundown.
Starting point is 00:10:36 No real rest, no room to breathe. And, you know, that takes a toll on people. And behind the paycheck was something darker, a silent war with his own mental health in dealing with that situation. But he never really talked about it. And as he describes it, none of the guys really did. Because in that world, pain is something you bury.
Starting point is 00:11:01 It's not something you say out loud. One day we're talking about it, he calls me up. He says, I'm starting something. He said, oh, yeah. What changed? He said, I'm tired of watching good men go through such difficult times. Someone has to talk about this. Someone has to create space for growth and transform.
Starting point is 00:11:26 And so he did. He started a new business doing exactly that, speaking to those who have walked the same path. He's walked, you know, understand the same struggle. And he is a messenger now reminding them of their strength, that they're not alone, that there are people and resources available. And he's been on this journey, right? Left the safety of the familiar, started that company from nothing,
Starting point is 00:11:55 speaks to crews across the country about resilience brotherhood, staying alive when silence gets too loud. That company that he started, it had been waiting. It was there. It was merely whispering, ready when you are. See, you think your dream is something you have to go find. You think your purpose is hidden in the distance, but what if it's already there?
Starting point is 00:12:23 What if the road's been paved? The doors unlocked, the canvas stretch, What if the only thing missing is your first step? What if it's whispering, calling out, hey, I am ready when you are. That mountain outside my window, wasn't getting closer, it wasn't changing shape. And today, I put on my shoes, walked out that front door,
Starting point is 00:12:53 and was sitting in my car at the base before the sun came up. Today was the day I met. the day I met the mountain. No more thinking it could be cool or wishing or hoping or planning for someday. Today, I would stand on it as the sun came up. Life doesn't hand us meaning. We create it. Stride by stride, choice by choice. That climb I've been thinking about for about a year and a half now, saying the same thing all along. I'm here. I'm ready when you are. And there are plenty of those in life, real and imaginary. So whatever you're holding back, whatever chapter you've delayed, whatever mountain you're looking out at, know this. The world you've been dreaming of is not
Starting point is 00:14:02 behind some locked gate. It's not waiting for permission. It's whispering right now in this moment. over and over again, ready when you are. Ready when you are. Ready. There's something I've learned after years of exploring ways to become your best self. Obviously, mindset's crucial. Discipline, critical. But so is taking care of your body, right?
Starting point is 00:14:51 The vessel that ultimately brings you there. And one of those little investments that I make regularly, is cowboy colostrum. It's high-quality colostrum from American grass-fed cows. It's designed to support gut health, digestion, and help with bloating. And there's actually some data behind it. So in their clinical study, it was reported that 83% improved gut health. 79% of participants experienced less bloating and inflammation,
Starting point is 00:15:19 and 72% improved their digestion. My personal favorite is strawberry, but I know they have a new cookies. and cream flavor and they're just very convenient. They go well in milk. They go well in coffee. They go well in a shake. And just allow you to keep that train moving. So if you want to check it out, you get 25% off your entire order.
Starting point is 00:15:41 If you go to cowboy colostrum.com slash eddie and use code eddy at checkout. That's E-D-D-D-I-E. Again, that's cowboy colostrum.com slash eddie and use Eddie at checkout. One of the most important things to understand, A cause for so much of our pain and discomfort comes down to this simple notion. Growth is very rarely about getting that magical thing you need, and instead is about eliminating the things that you don't. It's about less.
Starting point is 00:16:17 If you imagine yourself as a backpacker, hiking, climbing mountains, it's instead of filling it with rocks, that don't support where you're going, don't help you with the ascent, emptying that bag, removing it, and taking with you only the essentials. There's a story about a woman who loved her garden, more than anything. And she'd rise with the sun, she'd kneel in the soil, care for the plants. Like, they were family, right? There's like that important to her.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Watering, trimming, whispering, encouraging. like the earth itself was listening. And over time, her garden became her masterpiece. But as the seasons passed, became something else too, something heavier. The vines grew wild. The weeds wrapped around the root, some plants that once bloomed now stood still and lifeless, confined. But she didn't remove them.
Starting point is 00:17:36 She couldn't because she felt like they were a part of her. They reminded her of what she used to be. She held on out of habit, out of comfort, out of memory, out of fear of what removing them might mean. And, you know, we all have this story that we tell ourselves, sometimes closely aligned with reality, sometimes very far from it. But in this case, she would tell herself it was loyalty. She would leave the excess and the mess and the chaos because of loyalty. In reality, it was fear in disguise. Nothing more, nothing less.
Starting point is 00:18:25 And one afternoon, her neighbor looked over the fence, said gently, Hey, you have a beautiful space. I see how hard you work on it. I see how much you love it. And, you know, please excuse me for saying this. But it seems like it's gotten a little crowded, a little out of hand. Nothing new can grow in that soil that's already spoken for. And the woman got mad at first hearing that kind of, you know, it hit personally.
Starting point is 00:18:59 But after a few seconds, she calmed down and something seemed to click. Thank you, she responded. I'll keep that in mind. And that night, as she walked through her garden, and she did so with new eyes. Like, she finally saw what had taken over, the overgrowth and the clutter, the lifeless things still clinging to space that once belonged to beauty.
Starting point is 00:19:26 And so she began the painful, sacred process of letting go. Not in anger. Not in resentment, but in reverence. She finally arrived at that place. because it served her. And now it was time to create room for something new. The same way that, you know, we all go into our closet to get dressed in the morning. Right, you open it, sometimes you immediately feel overwhelmed.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Clothes stacked from 10 years ago. Jeans that don't fit anymore. Jackets you haven't worn but paid too much for so you keep them around. And every time you try to. and find something to wear, you mutter, I have nothing to wear, right? We've all been there. But the truth is, it's not that you have nothing, it's that you have too much of it no longer fits. It's the same idea as the garden. And eventually, you know, there comes this moment, a breaking point where you say, I'm cleaning this out, right? This is out of hand. You take everything
Starting point is 00:20:41 off the hangers, you sort of piece by piece go through it all and ask, does this represent who I am now? Does this fit now? Do I still want to carry this version of myself into the future? Not literally, but that's the idea. That's what we're asking. And what happens? You make space. Your closet breathes again, and you walk away lighter.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Not because you lost anything, but because you released what no longer belongs. And whether it's a garden or a closet, the principle is the same. Letting go is an act of self-respect. And yet, it's oddly something we resist. We think growth is about acquiring. Of course we do. More friends, more commitments, more achievements. But true growth is often about subtraction.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Removing noise and clutter, letting go of identities and habits and stories that once served us. But now hold us back. Now they are the weeds in the garden. Now they are the old unused jackets taking up space in the closet. The question is not, is it good or bad? The question is, is it aligned with who I'm becoming? And they're very different things.
Starting point is 00:22:12 There's a certain courage in letting go. I can, you know, speak from personal experience. I've come toe to toe with that demon over and over and over again. It's not easy. There's a quiet strength in choosing space in trusting that what you clear out will one day be filled with something better. You have to put trust into the universe and yourself to navigate it. That space, that silence, that empty soil or open hanger, it's not a loss, it's an invitation. So here's my ask. What are you holding on to that no longer fits? What emotional weeds are choking out the light in your life?
Starting point is 00:23:05 What memories are you watering long after the lesson's been learned? Because maybe, just maybe, it's time to weed that garden. To open the closet doors of your mind and say this no longer serves me, and not just say it, but act on it. Letting go doesn't mean the past didn't matter. The past was everything. It was your lessons. It was your path.
Starting point is 00:23:34 But there's a saying what got you here won't get you there. Choosing less means you're no longer choosing to live in yesterday. You're not betraying who you were. You're making peace with who you've been so that you can become who you're meant to be. When that woman cleared her garden, when you clean out your closet, what you're doing is reclaiming space for clarity and creativity, for purpose. And in that space, I promise you something beautiful, blossoms. So here's to clearing the weeds. Here's to letting go but no longer fit. To, yes,
Starting point is 00:24:23 honoring that past, but building a future that breathes. Because this is not about gardens or closets. It's about you and the life that's waiting for you to make space for it. Reality comes down to what we do with what we have. This is an idea I brushed shoulders with again right over there this morning, staring out the window. My mind sort of wandered into this place of, I wish I had a few more pieces.
Starting point is 00:25:19 I wish I had a few more things in my arsenal before moving on to this next chapter, right? And I think we've all been there, more tools in the toolbox, maybe more advice or guidance, from people that I look up to, maybe more research. You can go down that rabbit hole forever. Before sort of remembering that life always gives us some of it,
Starting point is 00:25:48 but never all of it. And some of it is always enough. Let's call this the law of broken crayons. Go back. Go way back. Grade school. You're sitting on the floor at the table with the other kids, blank piece of paper in front of you. You reach into that box of crayons.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Grab your color, and you go. The crayons cracked, probably broken in half. Somehow, always had other colors intentionally drawn onto the wrapping. But, like, who cares? I don't ever remember thinking, if only this box was pristine, you know, if a new box is opened right in front of me, that would be amazing so I could create with the flawless, untarnished instrument. It's like, no, it wasn't even on the radar.
Starting point is 00:26:49 We used what we had and what we had. It was always enough because we made it enough. So flash through time, boom, back to the window this morning. I'm longing for, metaphorically, a fractured. box of writing instruments, unopened and in perfect shape. The stuff I'm carrying around is cracked and drawn on and feels no longer pristine. But that's not what life provides us when it calls us to grow, when we're ready to step into something bigger.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Life gives the cracked ones. Maybe you have to grip the little piece that remains tightly with your thumb and your index. as though you're threading a needle, but it's usable. Maybe the color you need is missing, but there's a shade close enough to make do. I think you get what I mean. It's a lesson we need more than any other,
Starting point is 00:27:55 because it's not that every once in a while we don't get that fresh box of crayons, it's that life rarely ever provides it. Life simply says, here are the fragments, the pieces, the blueprints. They will work, but that's not up to the instrument. It's up to the artists who hold them. And personally, I've been blown away
Starting point is 00:28:21 by how many times I've seen the same set of circumstances produce wildly different outcomes depending on who happened to be the artist, depending on who was holding the instruments. Back in the day, when I was criticized, I would struggle. Someone would say, for example, you're not good at Bassett. That comment would make me think less about myself as an athlete, how I played ball. It would plant this tiny seed of doubt that I would have to navigate my way out of.
Starting point is 00:28:55 And then I remember learning about some of the toughest minds, right? Notoriously strong mentalities, the Jordans and the Kobe's, you tell them they suck. That doesn't create doubt. That ignites a, well, I'll show you mentality. They shined in those moments. Same instruments. Just different interpretation by the artists. And you realize that the world has nothing to do with this.
Starting point is 00:29:24 Criticism has nothing to do with this. It's the relationship I have with me. And if I trust myself, if I believe in my growth and my commitment to excellence, the other stuff, it's just detail. And it will always be detailed. starting a new business, right? No one has ever had what they needed out of the gate, ever.
Starting point is 00:29:48 I think it was Alex Hermose who said, you know, starting your own business is like running a marathon out of shape and getting yourself into shape along the way. I thought that was spot on. It's the only way to do it and is the opportunity perfect? No. Is your body acclimated? No.
Starting point is 00:30:11 But life provided those metaphorical running shoes, a road and a journey, and it turns out that's enough. So what I'm asking of you is that you keep this realization as close to you as you possibly can. It's that you remember having everything is wildly different than having enough. One is an illusion and one is your superpower. And maybe you're looking around at a world that feels cracked and flushed. Maybe it feels like it's missing pieces, requiring that you make trade-offs and improvise. That's not the world working against you. That's life placing a map in front of you.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Like Jim Rohn has said, it's not where you're going. It's who you become along the way. The truth will always be, if you want it, the pieces to take that necessary first step are there. Some people wait for perfection. Sure, that perfect box of crayons, a life without curveballs, twist. or turns, great. But as it turns out, they find themselves waiting a very long time. So why not step into the world now?
Starting point is 00:31:28 Armed with two things. First, what you have now. And second, the understanding that what you have now is enough. It will multiply, it will evolve with time. Exponential growth is bound to occur down the road. but first pull up the shades and let light in. Give life a chance to enter the equation. Let's not forget those basic unspoken truths,
Starting point is 00:32:00 those things that at one point, way back in the day, were intuitive. Open the box of crayons. Turn on the camera. Make the call. Write the book. Try the workout. Apply for the position.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Share your thoughts. Is the moment perfect? No. And maybe even a hell no. But is the moment enough? That's the question you should be asking. And the answer is yes. Always. Two and five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer.
Starting point is 00:32:50 That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, joined thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk.
