Starting point is 00:01:05 sense. Someday the big things you're dealing with won't seem so big anymore. Someday the doubts you have about yourself will be revealed as false. Someday you'll see that the things you worry about didn't matter at all. Someday you'll see that the road before you wasn't something you had to walk flawlessly, but rather something you had to trust and believe in. Someday you'll look in the mirror and see that you had it in you the entire time, that there was nothing you needed or should have been hoping for. Yeah, someday. Someday that will all be true. But what about some days from the past? I remember years ago thinking someday I would venture out into the world. Someday I'd speak my mind. Someday I would start my own business.
Starting point is 00:02:20 I would surround myself with people who believed in what I believe. Someday I'd make a little more money, have a little more time to do what I love. Someday I'd have all that. And as I look around, I realize it looks a lot like someday. But guess what? As we grow, so do our some days. It's a chase that never end. There's always something more.
Starting point is 00:02:51 There's always something bigger and better. And the problem is not the ambition. The problem is forgetting that in so many ways, you've dreamt of being where you stand right now. You have arrived. You're not the same person that 10 years ago was throwing some days out into the universe. No, you have grown.
Starting point is 00:03:23 You have learned. You have evolved. Why does this matter? It matters. Because without acknowledging how far you've come, you cannot acquire the strength needed to go where you must go. When you don't feel good enough, It's often because you haven't looked over your shoulder and opened your eyes.
Starting point is 00:03:55 The evidence is right there. It's hiding in plain sight. There's proof that you've been there. That you faced demons and conquered them, endured your battles and overcame. You did that. And at one point not that long ago, you couldn't see. say that you had. You weren't yet that person, but things are different. Now, what you have today was once only that hopeful someday. It was a fleeting thought. It had no merit and no value,
Starting point is 00:04:37 yet you brought it to life. Look what you've done. Understand how far you've come, how you ran when you could, you walked when it was possible. You crawl. when you had to. And continued on to arrive at a someday that is right now. You, my friend, are a maker of things unseen, an architect of tomorrow's and some days. So don't you dare. Don't you ever entertain the delusion
Starting point is 00:05:13 that this gift suddenly stops now. Suddenly the burden is too much. The mountain is too tall. No, what you do, is overcome. That is who you are. You've done it for you. You've done it for the ones you love. And in some cases, the ones who didn't even understand, but you kept going, marching through the fires of hell to turn some days into right now. And I get that the road before you is uncertain. There's no way to know exactly how life will unfold. But that's besides the point.
Starting point is 00:06:01 bird can't predict every gust of wind it's going to encounter. It spreads its wings, takes off, and adapts because it can, because it always has, because that's what it does. I'm not advocating that you should have all the answers. No, I'm suggesting that you trust yourself to find them. To move forward into the haze that surrounds you, to make sense of the seemingly illogical, bring about reality from the make-believe. Some you will have what you're aiming for. But here's to never letting a today go by without realizing that you are always living out a someday
Starting point is 00:06:49 from your past, you are always arriving and leaving simultaneously. The accomplished and the student, crossing a finish line and on the starting block with another race around the corner, another chance to stretch your legs and reach, in reach for the heavens. If you ever forget that, I ask that you find it within yourself to look over your shoulder, to remember what you once asked for,
Starting point is 00:07:23 and to appreciate the journey that you have undertaken. You did that. Now onward you go, you have more some days to bring to life. Sometimes moving forward takes courage. Like a lot of courage. Like more courage than you even think exists within you.
Starting point is 00:08:04 But here's the deal. Courage you have and you have it in spate. I was recently after a long networking event having dinner with my friends Salara and Eli. And both incredibly common. generous, successful people. And we're kind of catching up as we're eating. And suddenly from across the table, Eli says, Eddie, you know, I feel called to share this story with you.
Starting point is 00:08:42 And, you know, obviously I said, please, I'm all ears. And his story started well before he was a mover and shaker in the real estate world. well before he was as confident and polished as he is now. And he talks about his mid-20s being homeless, right? Living in a hammock behind the local convenience store, scraping together quarters for food, you know, and how some days it was incredibly difficult on his pride. You know, being handed changed by pastors by,
Starting point is 00:09:26 Some of them he knew, you know, were struggling just like he was. And one day, Eli decided, you know, I just, I don't want to do it anymore. The pain was too much and hope felt like a mirage. And so that night he planned to take his life. And he said he probably would have had it not been for a call with his sister, who convinced him on the phone, to see just one more sunrise. One more sunrise.
Starting point is 00:10:02 So he does. The next morning, he wakes up. He's walking through a parking lot. Someone walking by said to a friend, I love my life. And he said he remembers hearing that and, you know, kind of scoffing and in a mocking manner repeating it back.
Starting point is 00:10:32 You know, yeah, I love my life. But as he did, he noticed something. As he repeated those words, he felt good. For the first time in a long time, even if it was only for a few seconds. But sometimes a few seconds is enough, and this time a few seconds was enough. Enough for him to say, you know, one more day.
Starting point is 00:11:05 We'll give this one more day. tomorrow. Tomorrow, as the sun came up, turned into one more day, which turned into another day, which turned into weeks, months, and years where he exists today, not only incredibly successful, but a sharer of the message. He had a sign made that said, I love my life as a reminder to himself and to help others in the same spot. I love my life, he said again at the day. He said again at the table looking up with tears in his eyes and a smile on his face. See, when you're in those moments and trust me, I know how dark they can be, it feels like life is asking you to do more than you can to pull a rabbit out of a hat or create some unheard of larger-than-life solution.
Starting point is 00:12:09 But the truth is in those moments, you simply need to find the courage. to continue forward. Into the chaos, one more time. One more day, one more sunrise. Not for what you might find, but for what you might remember,
Starting point is 00:12:36 what you already know. That life is beautiful. That sure, sometimes the skies are painted gray and the horizon's just not visible from your vantage point. But that isn't an indicator that reality is void of meaning. It doesn't suggest there aren't better days ahead.
Starting point is 00:13:02 No, it means you have to put your head down and keep walking right into the storm, right, through the chaos, blazing your own trail through the abyss, like you own it. And you won't know why, it'll feel stupid. At times, yeah, you'll feel alone and helpless. Life will feel desolate. But here's the thing, you can. You are equipped with the courage to count those sunrises. You're armed with the strength to simply walk into the night.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Because here's what will happen. There's going to be a point where the rain stops and the sky's clear, where everything opens up. The path will make sense, and you'll trust more than ever to walk it. You'll have earned that confidence. You'll have seen firsthand that you are capable of moving mountains, not by performing miracles, but by placing one foot in front of the other. Sometimes it's that simple, not easy, but simple.
Starting point is 00:14:23 I love my life. Say it. Even when you've forgotten, even when you can't remember why, I love my life. Say it when hope is lost, when the path is unclear, when you look around and wonder if there's anything even worth pursuing, say it, because it will take your hand and lead you forward. That's your Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Not a miracle, but that step forward. One more sunrise. And if you can do it now, when the walls feel like they're caving in, when the sky feels like it's crashing down, If you find the courage in this moment, you'll begin that journey into the depths of your soul. The ride to what's ahead. The better days assembled just beyond the confines of the present moment.
Starting point is 00:15:31 Often courage is required of us when it's most difficult to reach in and find it. But it's there. So take it. Allow yourself to be that person you were meant to be. I love my life. This spring, denim gets a softer, lighter update. Introducing Old Navy's drapey denim wide leg, a new fit that moves with you.
Starting point is 00:16:14 It's everything you want denim to feel like for summer. Easy, breathable, and effortlessly cool. With a fit that creates natural movement and a wide leg that feels modern, not overwhelming. Plus, that signature, wait, for this price, moment. Old Navy's drape you deaden wide leg. What exactly are you afraid of? What's holding you back?
Starting point is 00:16:48 Is the giant rock you inhabit spins to the universe? A speck in a galaxy of stars. It's easy to look out and see the vastness of the world around you and forget entirely about the strength that you possess. Forget entirely that the mind's capacity is as infinite as those same stars that surround you. I don't think it's that we definitively choose to sell ourselves short. I think we simply lose sight of the fact that we have a say in the matter to begin with. Our fears keep us wishing.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Our insecurities keep us hoping. We stay standing still when we should be moving forward. But truth be told, our pain comes from not doing, but wishing that we did. It's no coincidence that the more we fail, the more we realize life is a game that expands as we push. The power of making mistakes isn't the mistake itself, it's that when we get back up and brush ourselves off, our cognitive mapping of the world changes. We see that we can step out a little further. Our very definition of what's possible expands,
Starting point is 00:18:19 and I believe that's what courage is. The willingness to step into that chaos of life, knowing that each time you find the strength to push forward, you are restructuring your reality. The resources are there, the tools are there, the opportunity is there, how crazy is the fact that we just need to convince ourselves that more is worth it, that the difficulty of short-term vulnerability isn't an enemy. It's the very ticket required for admission to the show.
Starting point is 00:18:58 And so I ask again, what are you afraid of? Falling? Because you will rise and you will rise stronger than you ever. were. Is it criticism? Because one, people are so focused on their own endeavors that they look up way less than we think they do. And two, other than the small group you surround yourself with, why would you care? Is it pride? Because building things of significance requires starting on the ground floor and there's no shame but honor in breaking down to build up. And when I look at my life in terms of chapters, right, childhood, high school, college, 20s, 30s,
Starting point is 00:19:44 the things that were my biggest concerns during each chapter are now laughable. And maybe, just maybe, if I saw that, I could have lived a little freer, been a little bolder. What if we were to get ahead of that learning curve? What if we understood that life is beautiful and flexible and exciting? And what if we understood that now? Instead of looking at this chapter, 15 years down the road, and chuckling to ourselves for not having the courage to have made the lead, taken the chance to have moved out into an unknown.
Starting point is 00:20:21 We cannot physically see that which doesn't exist, which is why it's so important that we know we are the architect, that the fear pulsing through our veins is indicating that we are building, that we are choosing to step into a world that will give more if we find the courage to ask. So as this giant rock human habit spins through the universe, a speck in a galaxy of star, perhaps each little light up there exists not to remind you how small you are, but to remind you that those same elements exist within you. to show you that the fire of a million suns sits in your soul,
Starting point is 00:21:10 beats in your chest, waits for your signal now. So what are you afraid of? If you leave the door cracked, when things get difficult, you will most definitely kick it open. If you have a plan B, when things get too challenging or, complex, you'll most definitely abandon plan A. To truly succeed is to cut off the lifelines. It's to commit to the road filled with adversity and struggle and hardship, but that leads to that which is meaningful. Over the weekend, I was invited to join my friend Evan Carmichael
Starting point is 00:22:12 and his mastermind to talk a little bit about YouTube. and my experience with it, my progression over the years. And it was a blast, incredible group, some amazing conversation. And I want to share a moment in particular that stuck out to me. I was talking about essentially the journey from zero subscribers to where I am now, some tips and flexion points along the way. And, you know, I pulled up behind me this chart that shows basically seven years of minimal growth, starting in 2014, going all the way up to 2021,
Starting point is 00:22:49 where suddenly you see that flat line spike, right? The channel sort of leaps to the next stratosphere, 4x, then 5x, then 10x, then 20x. After years of consistency, you see this sort of exponential curve. In my point is, you know, I didn't change my craft at all. I was speaking and sharing stories the same way that I always had, right? the way that I'd love to do it. What changed was the packaging.
Starting point is 00:23:18 It was the titling and the thumbnail images and the branding, stuff that because I enjoyed and was immersed so deeply in the creative process that I kind of ignored, right? All that stuff was an afterthought. Which is funny when you think about it, right? To work so hard on something
Starting point is 00:23:35 and then to sort of mail in or not pay attention to the marketing component that opens the door, or to what you're offering. So that would flip the switch. And, you know, I was thinking the group would want to dive fully into it. Okay, Eddie, what were those thumbnail adjustments? What was the titling?
Starting point is 00:23:55 What was the branding that you did? But to my surprise, people were far more interested in, Eddie, how the hell did you not quit during seven years of minimal growth? How did you do that? Were you tempted to quit? Did it cross your mind? And so I've been thinking more and more about, the question. And I think there were a variety of reasons didn't really give an in-depth answer
Starting point is 00:24:22 at the mastermind. So I'm going to share now and see if I can unpack this a little bit. First and foremost, I genuinely love what I do. You know, I saw those seven years every day getting up to dive into this as a chance to do something truly meaningful. I felt in my own personal world like I was doing something that mattered. And to me, that's foundational. My metric wasn't necessarily YouTube numbers. I mean, I was aware, don't get me wrong, but I would just be excited when I finished a speech if I felt it was powerful. You know, my game was trying to move myself to tears playing back something I created. If it was powerful to me, that would be a W. Maybe it won't get millions of views, but I know this is good, right?
Starting point is 00:25:12 It's like the Oprah metaphor I've used before. When Oprah walks into a bakery and declares it amazing, suddenly everyone hears Oprah and wants the cakes and the donuts or whatever's in the bakery, that doesn't mean the bakery suddenly got amazing overnight. It just means it was discovered. The baker knew he or she was making good stuff. They've been following that course all along,
Starting point is 00:25:37 and so that same idea pulled me through. Second, as I said in the intro, I didn't leave the door cracked at all. I knew this is what I was going to do. This is the arena. I was going to continuously attempt to improve in. And I was either going to be poor doing this or successful doing this. But I was going to do it. And so that saved a lot of internal deliberation when something I created, quote unquote, failed,
Starting point is 00:26:05 or the result was underwhelming. There's nothing for me to discuss. I'd have bad days, absolutely. There were days where I felt so down on myself that, you know, I couldn't get out of bed, right? Few and far between, but it happened. Felt like I was letting my family down at times. I felt like I was a disappointment.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Felt like I was losing some imaginary race. All part of the process. But here's what I always did. I recovered and kept going. I regained perspective. I got on the phone with people that mattered to me. I recalibrated and I continued on, right? You take your L.
Starting point is 00:26:44 That's life. You give yourself time to cope when you're down, whatever, right? But you carry on. You give yourself a chance. I think part of this mentality comes from being on the rowing team or crew team in college. I wasn't the greatest by any stretch. But I learned to suffer. I learned that to win means you have to get your ass kicked.
Starting point is 00:27:09 That's just how it goes. And I'm sure that was valuable when the racecourse, changed from 2,000 meters on the water to the creative slash entrepreneurial space. Suffering does not mean you win, but a refusal to suffer ensures you will lose. Next, I focused on adding value, right? You can't skip that. There has to be an exchange of value. And I was getting messages from people saying, Eddie, your work, help me. It wasn't a substantial, you know, influx of people reaching out. But there's an idea that if you can help one person, you can help one million people. It's not a can I do it question. It's a logistics
Starting point is 00:27:50 question. It's a scaling question, which means it's just a matter of time. It was all just tying to the self-belief, understanding that there was a way to scale that value. When you approach your mission, not with is it possible, but how do I make it happen? Do you drastically increase your odds? And anything you do. Next, I believed, and this is perhaps the most important, you know, that I was always one decision away from a totally different life, one creation away from that change that I've been looking for. And, you know, when you believe this and failure occurs, the mind simply asks, okay, what's next? Almost like, you know, imagine you're shooting three-pointers. There's a rack of basketball's next to you. You miss a shot. Okay, you're probably not going to break down,
Starting point is 00:28:44 right? Start weeping, convince yourself to take up soccer. No, you're going to reach over, grab the next ball, and shoot again. The possibility of what's next trumps the previously missed shot because of the opportunity, because it's there, because it's tangible, because you just have to pick it up and fire away again. And life provides, using the same metaphor, an endless rack of basketballs. It will allow you to shoot as many shots as you're willing to shoot. The next one could be the one that falls. And every rep increases that likelihood. Just like your next creation could be the one that changes everything. Lastly, there was a continued commitment to adjust. See, if you're not winning, if you're falling short, yet you're, you're, you're
Starting point is 00:29:37 you continue to do the same thing over and over and over again, you're not going to improve, right? It's continuously showing up, its commitment, it's consistency, but there has to be a willingness to evolve. There has to be some type of learned advantage. So next time you show up, you're a little bit smarter, a little bit more intelligent. It's that commitment to try adjust, try adjust, try adjust, try adjust,
Starting point is 00:30:06 that ultimately, you know, over time compounds into something bigger than the sum of its parts. There's just saying you can't stop someone who refuses to quit. I think that's right on the money. But it's important to note, I think implied in that quote, is that the person doesn't just keep trying to, you know, jam that square peg into the round hole. No, they're asking every day, what's one little thing I can do better? When I re-approach it next time, how can I be a little smarter? That's the magic.
Starting point is 00:30:40 So yeah, I totally get why that graph prompted so many questions. When you look back in totality, it looks huge. But really, it was just a dude every day doing what he loved, making little adjustments over time with no plan B. That's all. Taking the setbacks in stride, always thinking about the next creation. And what's even more exciting to me is that this is not some remarkable skill set. It's not some, you know, powerhouse ability I was born with.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Anyone can commit to a process. And even better news, right? If you utilize your resources, seek help and guidance from those who have been down the same road, your exponential growth can occur, you know, way faster than seven years. Just don't leave that door cracked. Are you one of those media strategy people clicking through slides, scrolling spreadsheets? Yes? Good. This is for you. Because on Spotify, there's an audience that's different.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Locked in, loyal, invested. They're called fans. Fans don't just listen to music. They feel seen by it like it belongs to them. So when your brand shows up on Spotify, that's who you're talking to. And you're right next to artists like me, Lizzo. So, are you ready to talk to fans? Spotify Advertising.
Starting point is 00:32:14 You're among fans.
