What's one thing I wish I knew when I was younger that I think people could benefit from today?
What single piece of information could have the biggest impact?
I spent some time thinking about this question, and the more I think about it, the more the answer becomes incredibly apparent.
It's that you are in control of your own life, your own destiny, your own future.
And when you take accountability for yourself, life changes.
Period.
And if you thought that was obvious, I would advocate taking a look around.
Maybe a stroll through social media, the Twitters and Instagrams, and TikToks of today.
And no, that's not the real world, but it's certainly a microcosm of the real world.
What do you see?
Well, you see chronic blame?
I don't like where I'm at or things are.
So that must be your fault or their fault or someone else's fault.
You see people looking everywhere but in the mirror.
Actually seeking out victimhood.
Because that's what brings the attention.
That's today's currency.
It's much easier to be the victim than the hero
because being the hero means you have to sacrifice something.
It's people saying the news or some institution
or the federal government is the problem.
And if those things would only change, then we'd be good.
Let me explain why I think this mentality is self-sabotage.
And why I would take younger me by the hand,
and I would say, listen to what I'm about to tell you.
Where you start is often outside of our control.
Let's be real, life is not fair.
We don't all get dealt the same hand.
But this next part, as I once heard Will Smith articulate beautifully, is the same for everyone.
What you decide to do about it right now is what matters.
And that is the control that we all have.
It's not your fault where you start, but it's your responsibility to choose where you end up.
You can shake your fist at the sky or you can start building a life that matters to you.
It's easy to blame the world, to be the victim, at least in the short term.
But a fulfilling life is about meaning, about fighting for something valuable, about evolving into the version of yourself that you always knew in your heart you could be.
You just had to unlock.
See, no one down the road was ever happy with themselves for blaming the world while they bitterly remained stagnant.
I would say to a younger me, worry less about how you're perceived and think more about who you are, what you're capable of, because that you can always control.
Stop losing yourself in the news or whatever the narrative of the day is.
That has nothing to do with your progression, has nothing to do with your very next.
step. So sure, be informed, but do more, consume less. Because by and large, it's a distraction.
And I would say the government, which has become the crux of our discourse today, transforming into a modern day religion, look, the government's job is not to give you anything.
It's there to protect what's inherent to you already. Your right to live life on your turn.
See, satisfaction, it will come from good habits.
It will come from self-belief.
It will come from taking risks and failing and learning.
It will come from the courage to step out into a world that's completely unknown.
It will never come from a self-interested politician or body in Washington, red or blue.
So stop whining about political optics
and focus on where your two feet are taking you right now.
Because I promise in the grand scheme of things,
things, that's what matters. That is your strength. Expecting someone else to come along and change your life
is like screaming into an abyss. I would say to my younger self, when you start looking around
and seeing what everyone else has and beating yourself up for not being as good or feeling like you're
behind, look, it's great that their success motivates you, but dwelling on it won't make your life better.
Life is a race between you and you.
It's a fight between yourself and those thoughts that constantly knock on the door,
looking to settle into your psyche.
If you defeat that demon, you'll be where you want to be.
Regardless of where others are.
You're right where you need to be.
So keep your head up and keep moving forward.
How to explain that to become something more,
to change
requires a sacrifice
that feels so substantial,
so big at first,
that it bullies most people
into staying right where they are.
That to become something new,
you have to learn to play the fool,
to get humbled,
you have to change your relationship
with short-term failure.
And that's not easy.
But taking control of your life
is not supposed to be easy.
Only worth it.
They're different.
And I can certainly look back at my own life,
think about the times where I was so busy pointing out
that I didn't even think to point the finger at myself.
I was so worried about life being unfair
that I existed in this temporary state of paralysis.
The whole time not knowing that I could have been stepping forward.
Could have been tapping into the single greatest power I possess,
control over my own life.
See, every time you feel anger or the need to blame those around you, you're taking the spotlight off of what matters and placing it on things detrimental to where you want to be, to your journey and your future.
Even the most unjust, arbitrary things, let's say you didn't get that promotion you were beyond qualified for, or you were mistreated by someone or things didn't go the way you wanted them to.
You can fill in that blank, but refusing to blame others and immediately taking responsibility.
Again, even in a situation like that, it gives you one of the greatest advantages in life.
It gives you that gift of control.
You can now assess the situation.
You can now ask yourself, hey, what can I do to change this?
You can delve into the why, find the lessons and the value.
you can come back and re-approach this thing stronger.
Because to blame others, to take on that role of victim,
it's essentially living life in the passenger seat.
It might be easier.
It might be less work, less responsibility,
but what you never have is control over where that car goes.
But when you own it, when you say,
hey, maybe it's not my fault, but look, it's mine now,
It's my responsibility. The good, the bad, every aspect of my life. It puts you in position
to change things, to take the wheel and reroute to a destination of your choosing. So that would be
my message to the world. I know it's not an easy road. I know life is unfair. I know things
aren't perfect, but the best thing you can ever do for yourself is say, you know what, this is mine
to own. And I'm going to look around for that light switch that will create momentum. That little
decision that will get the ball rolling, I'm not going to sit back, shake my fist, and blame life.
I'm going to walk out that door and create life. That's where you'll find what you're truly
looking for. There's something incredible about the prospect of starting over. Not because
or unhappy with who you are, or because each step that brought you here wasn't perfect in
its own unique way, but because somewhere deep down we can feel the infinite.
We know that when it comes to what's possible, we are a flicker of light in a galaxy of
stars, waiting to take shape, find our way to shine out across the very, you know,
elements from which we came. See, beginning again simply means a new chapter. It means the next
adventure. It's places you've never gone, people you've never met. It's stories untold and
dreams still dancing around in your head. There's an old Dr. Seuss quote I remember as a kid.
He said, sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.
And turning the page on that chapter is, if nothing else, a temporary reminder that we are in the very moments we'll look back on and smile.
It shines a spotlight on the people that mean the most and reassures us that the small stuff just might be.
After all, life doesn't dwell on the heartbreak or the times we fell.
But the times we got back up.
The times we looked with confidence at the road ahead and smiled at the horizon.
As each fleeting moment is discovered for the very...
So here's to breathing in that ocean.
breathe, laughing until your stomach hurts.
Here's to dreaming like there are no rules and living like there's no tomorrow.
To creating your masterpiece, one word, one note, one brush stroke at a time.
To dancing when the music isn't playing and sharing your song when it is.
Seeing the beauty when most walk right by it.
In darkness and a voice in silence,
Here's to living life on your terms.
Paving your own path and writing your own story.
The one where the hero doesn't stop
until the princess is saved and the castle is taken,
the one where reality is a reflection of imagination.
Because if you do these things,
When you look back years from now, you'll have a lot to say.
But I promise you, I wish, won't be one of them.
Not because of what you were given, but because of what you chose.
My mornings are when I do some of my best work.
And Maude, today's sponsor, has become a huge part of that routine.
I'll wake up, head to the coffee shop, sit down, lock in, and get to work.
And what Maude does is they prescribe a medaphanal drink that's designed to help with your energy, your focus, and your alertness.
Like I said, locking that into my daily routine has been huge.

and being a part of this life is the manifestation of stories stories we tell ourselves about the world
and our place within it rules that we've constructed and we respect we adhere to they dictate the
outcomes we get they become our reality because to establish a parameter
means at some point there's a line that we don't cross, right?
And there are obvious lines that we point to and we say no thanks.
For example, our values, right?
I won't do X because, well, it will hurt someone I love.
Or legal parameters.
I won't do Y because I know the repercussions, they're too much.
It's not in my self-interest.
And these are obvious.
These are talked about.
We're aware of these stopping points.
But I want to talk about a different.
set of rules. The stories we're writing without realizing we're doing it. How we think we're running a
sprint, but I have no idea that there's heavy weight on our shoulders holding us down, and you can't
take that weight off if you don't know it's there. And this all came to me a few months ago.
I was in L.A. for the weekend, having lunch for some incredible entrepreneurs. They've done some
amazing things. And one of them sold a dating app for hundreds of millions of dollars, another one
the healthcare company, another one had a very successful food distributing business, and I'm sitting
there kind of blown away. And my priority was to listen, not run my mouth or fabricate or impress,
but to simply observe what creates this type of result. I was listening to Alex Mayer,
who created Zusk, talk about his upbringing. He came to the U.S. as an immigrant from Iran and
worked his way up from nothing. It's not like these folks were given the world
They took it.
And it took me about three minutes to find a commonality in their worldview.
To me, it couldn't be more evident.
It was impossible to miss.
They don't look at life how I do, or at least how I did.
See, the story I told revolved around my parameters.
Sure, I had moments of boldness.
I pushed myself.
I worked hard, but I looked at life in terms of what it would allow.
Here's how things are.
Okay, how can I stretch that?
But that's like repainting or adding on to a house that was already built, right?
There's only so much flexibility, so much you can do with that.
But these guys are going around the table talking like little kids on Christmas, right?
Talking about life like it's a game.
Talking about opportunity like it's an apple waiting to be picked from a tree right outside.
There was no, what will the world allow?
It was with a smile, anticipation, and self-believe, what can I make?
And Alex, who I mentioned earlier, sold Zeus, created Menzerbox, and he loves beef.
He eats it all the time, right?
And so it's become his next entrepreneurial venture, a healthy beef stick company.
And every thought seems to revolve around that.
How can he take something he loves and share it with the world?
His imagination is now driving his thought process, which drives his action.
Not parameters, not someone else's reality, but possibility.
See, I left the table with this feeling I've never really had before.
It's like someone tapped me on the shoulder and reminded me of the freedom contained in every single step.
Not flexibility, but freedom.
Like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.
Who cares if you mess up?
Who cares if you lose?
Who cares?
That's part of this game we're playing.
A game where reality isn't an obligation to be lived,
it's an opportunity to be explored.
It's not about what you don't have.
It's being grateful for everything that brought you to right now.
Because right now is a perpetual launching pad.
You know, growth is learning.
And that afternoon, I learned to take life way less seriously.
To enjoy it.
to let imagination drive every step,
because the difference is some of us build
because we don't want to lose,
we don't want us to come to fear
and not meeting our potential, right?
We fear being inadequate, falling short.
We see obstacles.
Some of us, we build to capture the beauty, the excitement.
That makes the difference.
And look, I'm not presenting you empirical data.
I don't have all the answers,
but I'm willing to bet that years from now,
looking back, that simple understanding will have played a substantial role in whatever comes next.
The rules changed, and so did the path. Let's not become so focused on each footstep that we lose
sight of where they're collectively taking us. What are you building? Why are you here?
To play by someone else's rules or to transform yourself and by default, the world of
around you.
See, reality is fluid.
It's malleable, and the beauty is in that process of creating a ship leaving the harbor has infinite possibility.
Unlimited potential, and that gives it its power.
There's no right turn or wrong turn.
The only way to lose is to stand still, to think that horizon in the distance is too far or not for you.
See, a harbor is not a stopping point, it's a beginning.
So take control over that world.
Push it, test it, see what it has to offer, throw your interests and your curiosities against the wall.
See what sticks.
See what ignites your soul.
Test the universe because life it rewards the bold.
Those courageous enough to step outside their friends.
door and not follow, but design.
Those who know things are the way they are simply because others before them had the courage to make it so.
Well, now it's your turn.
You defeated the one in four hundred trillion odds stacked against your birth.
You navigated through your low points.
You've done enough to get to this very moment, this instant.
For the mistakes that brought you here,
will become the wisdom that leads you forward.
That takes you to places you never thought possible.
And where exactly that is,
is entirely up to you.
Commit.
The only limit to your impact
is your imagination and your commitment.
The fence is for losers.
Right? That's a harsh way to put it,
but that's the reality.
is things get better when you look at life from a binary standpoint.
You either want it or you don't.
And if you want it, why wouldn't you go all in?
And if you don't, why would you touch it?
I can't tell you how many times I've been, you know, one toe in the water,
and it's like, why?
Do you want this or not?
First time I heard this freshman year in college.
And it was one of those things where I always thought I worked hard.
You know, I always kind of jumped into what I was doing
and I wanted to get good grades.
I invested in what I did, but I realized that I didn't quite grasp what it meant.
And I walk up to the student center, and I'm looking around, and there's a flyer, and it says,
Holy Cross D-1 men's rowing.
I'm like, yes, this is perfect.
You know, I can make friends with like-minded people, you know, stay in shape.
This is amazing.
And I go up, and there are 73 people there, walk-ons.
And when I didn't realize at the time was that they don't make cuts, you either.
quit or you don't. Senior year when we graduated four walk-ons were left. And we always joke about
it because it's not like we were far more talented or we had this superior skill set. We just
committed to the process. We committed to the ups and the downs and the trials and the tribulations
and the difficulty. One of my first practices, you guys know what a rowing machine is, the thing in the gym,
you sit down and you pull. Pretty straightforward. You pull. It tells you exactly how
hard you pull. That's it. And so I'm sitting there we're doing five sprints, 2,000 meters
sprints, and I'm suffering, you know, just going, the world of hurt. And after the second
one, I get up, and I go to the bathroom, I'm throwing up, I have a headache, I'm dizzy,
and just feeling so sorry for myself. I'd never experienced anything like that before. This is all
new to me. And eventually I get it together and I go down, I sit on the erg, you know, feeling like a
hero. It's like, all right, I'm back. And I sit down, grab the thing,
and the coach walks up next to me.
He goes, it's Eddie, right?
Yeah, it's Eddie.
He goes, yeah, that score won't cut it.
And walks away.
And that was not a nice thing to hear
because I always associated suffering
with paying the price, right?
How could I be going through that type of punishment
and have someone respond that way?
Right?
So we start the piece, and now I'm like,
I have something to prove
and I'm just ripping the thing as hard as I can
and just not in a good place
and he comes up again.
I'm like, all right, good.
Right?
Now he understands.
He goes, look, Eddie,
I don't know what you have to do mentally.
I don't know what you have to do physically,
but you've got to figure it out.
And that's where it occurred to me.
Showing up isn't enough.
Being in pain isn't enough
because the guy from Georgetown,
you're racing on Saturday,
guy from Northeastern, you're racing on Saturday,
they hurt too.
but they're pulling faster.
Winning, truly winning is committing
in every single way.
It's immersing yourself in something
because if you want to be great, that's what it takes.
There's a quote I think about a lot.
It's that a healthy man wants a million things,
a sick man wants but one.
And the more time passes,
the more I realize that taking care of myself
isn't just about right now.
It's about making sure I'm able to do what I love
years from now. And a lot of that starts with the mitochondria, a cellular power source that helps
fuel how you feel and function. That brings me to today's sponsor, timeline powered by mitopure.
Long story short, mitochondria supports mitophagy, which is just your body's natural process for
recycling damaged mitochondria and making room for new healthier ones. All it takes is two of their
sugar-free strawberry gummies a day for 500 milligrams of mitochondria.
They taste good, they're easy, and most importantly, they set you up for long-term success.

How do you visualize the road you're on?
With its twists and turns, smooth terrain, rough terrain.
straightaways, hills, what is it all mean?
Do you find it odd that it gets more challenging as you get closer to your destination?
Right? The further along you get the more tension life puts between you and the finish line.
Almost like the universe is adamant about weeding out those who think they can skate by.
What is the difference between saying you want it and really wanting it?
Perhaps it's a willingness to fight through a storm just for the opportunity to find calm and serenity in its center.
This morning, as the sun was coming up, I went for a run.
A nice five-mile run down the coast, and the way I planned it out was simple, right?
2.5 or halfway up in soft sand, and then I'd stop, and I'd turn around, and I'd run 2.5 back, but on the harder surface, right?
easier to handle, almost like a reward for pushing myself on the way up.
And things were going perfectly.
I made the 2.5 mile run up.
And when it came to stop and turn around,
I realized what should have been obvious from the beginning was high tide.
Which means I didn't get that hard surface to run back on.
Instead, not only was it softer than the way up, but I was running on a slope.
And that just threw my mind for a loop, right?
I'm embarrassed to admit, I was actually angry about it.
You know, I pushed myself hard going up and wanted that breather.
Almost felt like life pushed the finish line back 2.5 miles.
And trust me, as I'm writing this, it seems ridiculous to talk about.
But in the moment, just irrationally annoyed.
That was the carrot that had been chasing the whole time.
So I begrudgingly, you know, moved forward, kind of trying to figure out what to do.
And ultimately just continued forward.
and, you know, the emotion subsided,
and as usually happens, you pull yourself out of the weeds a little bit,
the big picture tells a different story.
Different story means different perspective.
And that's what I came across, right?
This idea or this question, well, why do we expect life to be flat ground?
Why was that my assumption to begin with?
The easy to navigate path.
Why is that the standard?
And the more I thought about it, right, the more I wondered if that's the very reason why we underperform.
It's the little spark that ultimately lights this wildfire of regret.
Because when convenience is the standard, everything else becomes unfair.
Everything else is a burden.
When the road should be flat, what are we to make of the hills in our path?
Thinking life should be easy, it provides oxygen to a victim mentality.
And sometimes it takes these little experiences for me to refocus on these subtle realities.
The flat ground is not the standard, it is earned.
It's a gift.
It should be cherished and appreciated because guess what?
Life wasn't easy.
It isn't easy and it never will be.
But I believe the differentiator is knowing that.
So I kept running on the slope, feet sinking into the sand.
I got my teeth kicked in just a little bit longer and life didn't end.
In fact, I think the mental aspect was tougher than the physical.
We're only talking five miles here.
But when the standard changes, so does the performance.
It's about just moving forward.
And like poetry, with about three quarters of a mile left, right?
The beach widened.
It leveled out.
The ground became harder.
each step became easier, and yeah, I was running.
But in my head, it felt like I was lying on a bed of feathers.
Because when you prepare to face life's demons,
when you're ready for battle,
when you anticipate you'll have to give everything,
any adversary that falls short of that
feels like wind behind your back.
We can endure anything.
The question is whether or not we put ourselves in position.
Mistakes, they don't define us.
Heartbreak, it doesn't kill us.
And criticism, it doesn't shape us.
But I'll tell you what.
The fear that they do stops a lot of people
from becoming who they're capable of becoming.
Panicking at the slightest sign of discomfort,
moving away from anything,
but the convenient when in reality inconveniences are the path.
As Ryan Holiday famously put it, the obstacle is the way.
See, satisfaction, it doesn't even exist without a will to overcome.
What meaning does the finish line have without miles of self-doubt
and questions and fear and dragons being slayed while you prove
to yourself over and over again that you know what I am more and I can be more and
the crazy thing is that there's not even a stopping point here this rocket will
propel as high into the ether as you choose to take it and look it's not about
running on slight inclines or sinking a few inches into the sand it's not
about being rejected, losing or castigated by seven billion self-interested souls.
No. It's about not being scared to take the bridge that connects current to future.
Complacency to recreation, the known to the seemingly impossible.
You're made of so much more than you give yourself credit for.
You are so much stronger than you think.
than you think you are.
So for yourself and for the world,
capture that.
Own it.
And redefine what it means,
not to simply exist,
but to your core
with every ounce of your being,
your soul,
every fiber in your body
to truly live.
I woke up,
put my coffee on the desk.
Open my laptop, stared at a blank screen,
and a little button popped up in the top right corner.
Check for updates.
Nope.
Ask me again later.
Why?
Why not now?
I don't know.
I don't necessarily care about the improvements.
I guess it's just inconvenient.
It can wait.
And that's kind of it.
Let's face it, the laptop doesn't matter.
The update in this scenario is not important.
But bear with me, because I think what it stands for,
and when you apply it to the big picture, does matter.
Our proclivity to take less because less is convenient.
Our predisposition to sell ourselves short
because it's safer to leave so much of ourselves on the shelf
because while things don't break,
when they're on the shelf.
But you can't be both flawless and live your life.
Because life comes with wear and tear.
The value is the experience.
And a flawless existence is void of experience,
of stories of adventure.
There's a little parable about two seeds being planted.
And one of them just wants to grow.
Wants to feel what the sun is like.
wants to see how high she can get, experience the breeze, the cool air, and so she grew.
And sure, she dealt with hard days.
She had her difficult times, but ultimately grew to live her best life.
The other seed worried.
Worried about leaving her home, the world that was the ground around her,
worried about damaging her roots, worried about what could be waiting for her in the dark,
about the sun being too hot and the breeze too strong, and ultimately stayed right where she was,
playing it safe until one morning a chicken came wandering by and ate the seed off the ground.
And see, this spells out a few things. One, we can at any moment decide to step into that next level,
evolve into that next chapter.
But also
not doing so
comes with a cost.
Sometimes a hidden cost.
There's a tendency to think that preserving
the status quo
because it's safe
is valuable.
But understand something, you are not
a collector's item.
You weren't made
for preservation. You were
made for growth, to expand, to reach out towards the heavens and feel that sun, that breeze,
ensure upgrading means vulnerability. It means accepting that the unknown is bigger than you,
but also contains within it everything you need. Whether it was people, things, money,
resources. I used to think like that seat. How can I hold on to what I have? Contain, play small.
I can't lose this. I've come too far. I've worked too hard. What if everything goes wrong?
I can't upgrade now. Maybe later. Maybe someday when the time is right, when it won't hurt or
require that I step outside of this little world I've created. But guess what? Growth,
always asks of us that we leave the comfort of now.
It always offers us the world in exchange for the courage to see the unseen and trust ourselves to bring it to life.
And when I realized this, I saw how the act of trying to perpetually maintain the status quo is debilitating.
It's looking at life through a lens of scarcity.
It's only when you start to grasp how abundant life is.
that you realize by simply stepping into that person you are destined to be, you'll attract what matters.
Some things will go, and you'll leave them behind.
But those things no longer serve you.
They played their part.
They added their value and are now merely stepping stones as you move to something greater.
And that's just it.
Sometimes living means wishing you did things differently,
looking back and acknowledging that you need to be better.
Sometimes living means losing the wrong people in your life
to make space for the right ones.
Sometimes it means spending days, months,
even years wandering down the wrong path
so that you can get a glimpse
so that you can realize what the right path looks like.
Sometimes it means no reward, no validation until that compounding finally takes place.
Finally, you see just how powerful those small steps were and will always be.
It means seeing yourself as the person you know you can be.
Maybe not necessarily the one you are today, but betting on yourself when no one else would.
There's an idea that people are neither good,
nor evil, but they have both within them.
They choose through their day-to-day action, how they'll live, who they'll be,
and sure this is a tad oversimplified, but I think the duality is useful, right?
Because in a different context, for everything that occurs in your life,
you can find a reason to celebrate or a reason to grief,
a reason to grow or a reason to hide.
It all comes down to what one chooses to see.
how they choose to look at the world.
I'll never forget when Peterson talked about curtains, right,
with tears or holes in them, same world on the other side.
But the opening that you choose to look through
paints an entirely different picture, right,
contributes to an entirely different understanding.
And look, I'm a pragmatist.
I just am.
I'd never ask people to close their eyes
and pretend everything's perfect,
to wander down the path before you,
expecting everything to be easy. No, but what I am saying is that the path before you is where you'll
uncover the meaning in life. And meaning requires that we are from time to time uncomfortable.
To go where we most want to go, we must leave something behind. And the reality is that while it's
scary, while it can be alarming and even painful, it is always worth it. That what's on the other
side is what makes life worth living. I want you to know that you don't need to be walking into
the same rooms, talking to the same people, doing the same things. No, not if you've outgrown that
reality. Not if you're ready for the next chapter. So let's make a pact to view life not as an obligation
but as an opportunity. Something challenging but beautiful, mysterious but plentiful. Let's view the
challenges along the way, not as something going wrong or some kind of alarm, but rather an
indication that you are doing something right, that you're stepping into the controlled chaos of
your day to day, finding the courage to meet new people, try new things, take risks,
evolve. This is what life is about. And if you can find it within yourself to see it that way,
to be grateful for the discomfort that makes its way in and out of our lives.
You'll know that you are evolving, reaching towards that sky.
Because the danger, as far as I'm concerned,
is never what happens along the way.
It's what doesn't happen
because we never let ourselves accept what the world had to offer.
So on that note, I think today is the perfect
Top grade.
