Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to Your World Within Daily. I'm Eddie Panero. And in this episode, we're going to talk about the most dangerous word in your vocabulary. What it means and what you can do about it. The most dangerous word in your vocabulary. Well, a lot come to mind. But if I had to point to just one, it would be the word tomorrow. You might think can't would be one of them or, you know, something self-defeating.
Starting point is 00:00:47 And, you know, I've certainly put a lot of thought into that. But what's more dangerous than an absolute no out front is the delusion that it will happen. It's the delusion that you'll get to it soon. tomorrow the next day when you're free when life permits because as we've all seen in one capacity or another there are a lot of situations where tomorrow doesn't come tomorrow is fiction it's how we rationalize staying where we are can't is at least black and white it's wrong but at least it's black and white it provides something tangible to fix whereas tomorrow is a false sense of comfort So what does that mean? What do we do with that?
Starting point is 00:01:40 Well, when I was in college, I was on the crew team, right? And one of the boats that we wrote in, an eight man and a coxon, and it was called the execution. To remind us of a very important thing. And, you know, I draw from these lessons a lot now. It's funny, as you get older, I mean, you realize things that you didn't when you were in the midst of them. But this point was pretty apparent. Being in shape is huge in the world of rowing, right? Being strong, being fit, being prepared, being mentally strong, being ready to go, being well-rested, having a good diet.
Starting point is 00:02:26 All these things matter, but they don't matter more than your ability to execute on game day. when the buzzer sounds and there's a boat to your left and there's a boat to your right, it's the one who executes best. Now what's the connection between that and the word tomorrow? Well, as far as I can see, it's the present moment, the now. Not looking ahead to the finish line, not looking to tomorrow, but what are you doing right now? the immediate step, the immediate action. How are you taking advantage of the air you're breathing in right now?
Starting point is 00:03:13 There's nothing more powerful than a single step in the right direction. That is what all journeys are made from. That's what everything of significance is made from. The ability to dive in, take action, and adjust as you go. You don't have to know the, answers, just like you don't have to know at the beginning of the race, what the end of the race is going to look like. But you have to execute in the present moment. Tomorrow means I'll give my all down the line. Just like on a race, it's hedging. It's saying that you can make up ground in the
Starting point is 00:04:00 last 500 meters. In life, it's saying you'll pull it together tomorrow. But in reality, it's now. It's this breath. It's this step. It's this stroke that will ultimately come to define you and your life. So I'm going to play a video. This is an old school video. I'm talking 2015 called Tomorrow. And it is about that word, the most dangerous word in our vocabulary. And I hope you can take something from that. Put it in your back pocket. You know, when you find yourself rationalize, putting something off, I hope it gives you the strength and the recognition to realize right now is the most powerful tool you have. And you don't need to climb the whole mountain right now. You don't need to have all the answers right now or across the finish line right
Starting point is 00:04:57 now. But you need to take one step. And there's nothing more powerful than that. Here's tomorrow. While it's a symbol for hope, it can just as easily be the reason that your dreams remain little images in your head. Tomorrow diminishes the significance of the air that you're breathing right now. It tells you that someday you can begin your journey and that you can just wait and make yourself comfortable until then. Tomorrow masks itself as an escape for those held down by fear, those resistant to change. It encouraged you to be content where you are, stating that you have your whole life to get where you want to be. And for some, tomorrow lasts forever. It evolves into regret, into immobility, into an excuse to never really do what you were meant to do.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Tomorrow can be worse than failing, because often it implies that there was never a beginning. There was just a vision, just an idea being put off for a better time that never came. There will never be a moment in your life, more precious than the one you're living in. Your heart beating in your chest, the air in your lungs, the blood in your veins. They're giving you an opportunity to make a change, to become who you want to become, to live, to inspire, to achieve. Who really knows how many tomorrows you'll get? And the last thing you want is to look back on your life thousands of days from now and wish you had the courage to do what you wanted to do.
Starting point is 00:07:26 To wish that you understood how fast tomorrow's come and go. And that all you will ever have is the present moment. Every journey starts with a step. That courageous act of moving forward. not knowing what tomorrow will bring, only knowing that you'll be further along then than you are now, that you'll be stronger, wiser, smarter, because you didn't wait for tomorrow, you didn't wait for anything.
Starting point is 00:08:01 And that is the difference between I am and I wish I was. It is the difference between dreaming and truly living.
