If I could go back in time and have a conversation with my 8 to 10 year old self, that would be the message I would give.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Because when you think about it, you're a kid, things don't go your way, what do you do? You cry, you whine, you throw a fit, you want your parents to feel sorry for you. You feel sorry for yourself. It's how you deal with things at that age. And then you grow up, but you don't necessarily shed that habit, that way. mentality and it becomes obvious right I mean you can talk to someone for 30 seconds and you know right away if they have that victim mentality the world falling down they're tired they have so much to do they're so busy X Y
Starting point is 00:01:22 and Z look having that mindset does two things for you one it makes you come across helpless and weak and no one wants to come across that way two it does not get you to where you're going. It does not change the situation. Here's the reality. There is always a way to get what you want. There is always a way to position yourself to move away from what you don't want. You can quite literally become what you want to become, but you cannot look at life like it's this problem, like it's against you. The ball is in your court. You know, It wasn't that long ago, two, three years ago, that I was not the happiest guy in the world, right? Did not like what I was doing, did not like how I was spending my time, was not energized, was not passionate about very much.
Starting point is 00:02:27 But the time came where I didn't want to live like that. I had a conversation with myself. I stopped being the victim. I stopped complaining and I asked myself, dude, what do you want? What is your purpose? What is your goal? Who do you want to become? And I literally made the decision and walked away a different person.
Starting point is 00:02:49 And the things around me changed. My life changed because I made a decision to never be the victim again, to get what I want. I became the author of my own story. And you realize just how simple it is to transform your situation. Not easy, right? And it takes time. But there's always a way to get from point A to point B.
Starting point is 00:03:18 And this separates the world into two kinds of people. People who look at how things are, who accept reality as truth, who complain, and people who look at what can be, who make the most of any situation, look at life as if it's clay, to be molded, to be shaped. It seems funny to me, knowing what I do now, that I went through everything. any of my life like a hamster on a wheel, that I talk to people every day who didn't energize me, that I didn't want to be around,
Starting point is 00:03:51 that I did things I wasn't passionate about, that is insanity. Because if you don't like something, but you do nothing to change it, what's left for you to do? Complain, whine, stay where you are, that's it. See, one of the reasons I reference athletics so much is because they're
Starting point is 00:04:12 bring this mentality on you that when things become difficult when things become challenging your job your one job is to find a way to figure it out and I always did and I took that and I brought it to everything else I do and now it's eye-opening to see people achieving success financial freedom these things everyone wants and know that the difference between them and everyone else is that they felt like they deserved it. A lot of the time they weren't smarter, stronger, they weren't more gifted starting out, but they moved toward what they wanted. They didn't cry or groan about the problems, they didn't look for sympathy. Those at the top of the mountain are not victims. They would never let themselves be victims. It's about the other side, the opportunity, getting from where you are
Starting point is 00:05:05 to what you want. frogs and you know these frogs as they're sort of making their way through the woods the ground breaks underneath them and two of them fall into this little pit way way way down they tumble and eventually they hit the bottom they're looking up and they're realizing how far they've fallen right moving around panicking essentially coming to grips with the situation that they're now in they start frantically jumping, trying to climb the walls. And as they're jumping, the frogs on top are looking down. And they're basically yelling, look, we're sorry this happened to you. But this is a lost cause. There's no way out for you guys. There's no need to jump around. This is a futile situation.
Starting point is 00:06:20 But they continue to jump and they're jump, not willing to come to terms with that possibility. Not yet. And again, the frogs up top, they're not. they yell down, you know, there's no way. It's over, you're going to die down there, guys. You need to ultimately face that. And one of the two frogs in the pit does concede to the situation. He hears the voices and, you know, he stops jumping and makes his way further down the pit and he dies.
Starting point is 00:06:51 But the second one, the second one keeps jumping, and adjusting his approach, trying different things. Ultimately, he does get out. He climbs over the ledge, and when he gets to the top, he's confronted by the others. And they come up to him, they ask him, hey, didn't you hear us yelling down that this situation was impossible? Didn't you hear us say there was no way out? And as it turns out, he didn't hear. Because this frog was deaf, right?
Starting point is 00:07:18 So we couldn't hear a single word, and this ultimately saved his life. Not because it helped them do the miraculous or the impossible, but because it blocked out the outside voices, attempting to tell him what possible is. Look, there will always be doubters, skeptics, and cynics. As Aristotle said, there is one way to avoid criticism. Do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing. But the beauty is that these voices have one thing in common and that's their irrelevance.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Because there's one voice that matters in the writing of your story and that voice belongs to you. Never forget how much control you have. Never forget who holds the pen. Things are real when you make them real. Things stop when you stop. Things change when you change them. So here's the following. not orders or expectations, but that spark that guides you to what feels right, to what
Starting point is 00:08:26 means the most, ears to an everlasting self-belief. Lift you out of any hole, carry you over any mountain, and most importantly turn blank pages into a story that is truly your... You had a vision. A vision to build something that they've never. never seen before. But they gave it one look and called it insanity. You worked hour after hour for little reward. They watched from a distance and deemed it irrational.
Starting point is 00:09:46 You simplified your life until it consisted of only your goal. But amidst convoluted objectives and routines, they declared it a tragedy. You failed and you failed. but you would not give in. And entertained by this struggle, they called you stubborn. Through it all, you never lost faith. They sat back and called it delusional. And then something happened.
Starting point is 00:10:27 You succeeded. You succeeded like no one else before. And when you shared your result, they called it genius. When you told your story, they admired the persistence, when you uncovered your knowledge, you're learning, your expertise, they asked for advice. See, you provided a blueprint, yet few people follow. Now they call you gifted, lucky, and you shake your head
Starting point is 00:10:59 because as you made that climb, something became very obvious to you. This word, insanity, defined, as extreme foolishness or irrationality, this is what got you to where you are today. And on the surface, when you took that first step, it was insanity. You left what was known, you were questioned, doubted, you looked inexperienced, you fell on your face.
Starting point is 00:11:27 An hour after hour, you prayed that it was not in vain, and some days it felt like it was. But every single day, you left something behind. the things that you'd outgrown, the things that would have surrounded your every move, had you stayed in that spot, had you been intimidated by the depths of what they call insanity? But you didn't. You traded them for a chance to get what matters most, and now as you gain perspective, you see what was insane yesterday is now everyday reality. It's what you do without giving it a second thought, and you want more.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Just the taste made you want more. To see what's out there, to see how far you can push. That is life. And as you prepare to continue down the road ahead of you, the peaks, the valleys, the twists, the turns, the ups and the downs, you realize that the only thing in this world that qualifies as insanity is being unwilling to take that next step. The fear of standing out, of being different, of living a life that was meant for you, that you deserve. Because to disregard that opportunity,
Starting point is 00:12:44 oh, the insanity that already exists. You find it. Unmask, unveil, allow it to shine through in its original state. It can be improved upon or enhanced, but who you are is who you are. And that's a beautiful thing. Because success is not about, looking around you and trying to replicate someone else's idea of a life well-lived.
Starting point is 00:13:34 No, it's about removing everything you're not. Until all that's left is what matters most. You, in your most authentic state. That state that most people don't bother to uncover. And see, in a world of acquisition, of longing for more, it's the ones who learn to cut away that truly live. in refinement, simplification that we find clarity, that we're gifted with peace of mind, because it's the burden of constantly doing something that doesn't excite, or playing a role
Starting point is 00:14:12 that is not yours to play that is the costly one. Life is about meaning. And to deprive yourself of that is to remove the wind from the sale. We are not free until we decide to be. As Greg McCune mentions in his book Essentialism, the Latin root of the word decide, sys, or sid, literally means to cut or kill, it's to walk away from what you're not. Unearthing the power, the value, the potential that always existed despite our ignorance. So let's no longer ask what do I need in order to be who I want to become. And start asking what can I remove that? is infringing upon who I am. What can I dismantle so that I might give wings to that which means
Starting point is 00:15:07 the most? You're right where you need to be. Sure, you have your doubt. Perhaps you feel tired, alone, fearful. Maybe you're trying to make sense of a world that feels too complex. Or, all you're You see and here are reasons to turn back, to find shelter, to run, don't. Regardless of how hard it seems, don't. You are right where you need to be. Turning thoughts to things, making life from dreams, what makes change so interesting. So powerful yet deceptive is that it comes to us in so. small doses. Not a tidal wave of transformation but a slow, steady, rising tide of progress.
Starting point is 00:16:24 No one feels the tug of erosion, yet it chips away. And so do you. Removing piece by piece behold you, the world you're moving away from, and piece by piece, you unveil the promise of you're becoming. You may not see the whole picture. You may not understand the whole story, but right now, in real time, it's being told. And you are right where you need. We just weren't equipped to understand what that looks like. It's never been what you see that makes you uneasy. It's what's missing. That's what hurts. The solutions you wanted, the job, the changes you expected, the finish lines you envisioned. It's the wondering, how long must I wait? Did I make a wrong turn is the joke on me? But it's this line of questioning that causes so many
Starting point is 00:17:39 to stop. Unaware of how close they were, ignorant to the foundation they were standing on on. What you need is not a miracle. It's to simply carry on to keep laying those bricks because not a one is wasted. And sometimes you don't realize you're on the 80th floor until you look down. That climb can be frustrating, exhausting. It isn't always glamorous, but it's necessary. And strength comes from understanding that truth. You are right where you need to be. The world, it can't take what you refuse to give it, and self-belief is non-negotiable.
Starting point is 00:18:34 It's off the table. Your most prized possession. So hold it tight because it'll be needed when the journey feels long and the road impossible.
