It's not about what happens to you.
No one escapes adversity.
No one lives free of discomfort or misfortune or struggle.
No, it will always be about what you do with what happens to you.
In other words, it's not the event, it's the response.
Not the obstacle, but the ability to navigate around.
it, not the wave, but the ability to ride its momentum to something greater.
It is not what happens to you. It is what you do about what happens to you.
The famous Roman emperor and stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius said, you have power
over your mind, not outside events. Realize this.
and you will find strength.
And I think this realization comes down to the fact
that there is always a way, buried underneath it all,
something powerful to leverage.
But getting to the value calls for rewiring.
A change in the questions that we ask.
Not how could this happen to me, but how can I be better tomorrow?
than I am now because of what happened to me.
Not can I still be that person or accomplish what I set out to,
but I am that person.
Now how will I adjust my path so that I get there?
We're operating within a world of value, limitless opportunity.
The difficulty simply pushes us to that value faster.
faster expedites the process. It forces us to open our eyes and see that the world works for us.
So you take, for example, the fear of starting something new.
That fear, it doesn't have to be an end point or a red light indicator.
Fear doesn't mean you're not qualified or prepared or equipped.
It simply lets you know that you have finally acquired the courage to step out of the safety
of the only world you knew and into the turbulence of growth.
On to the path of something better.
And where it's easy to move away from that feeling.
To turn your back on the chaos and retreat to something simpler.
Maybe something more predictable or contained.
What if you viewed the fear as a bit of?
is the price that we all have to pay to pull the curtain back on the best things life has to offer.
Changing the question from will I be afraid to instead this is important.
This is meaningful.
Therefore, it's inevitable that I will experience fear.
But what will I do about it?
How will I conduct myself amidst the fear?
Will I continue forward?
Those are the questions that contain the value.
Right?
I can't keep the water from rising or the walls from caving in.
No, that's an inevitability where I'm going.
The worthwhile road always has its adversity.
But will I use that water to learn to swim?
The walls to climb, to adapt and scale.
What will I make of this?
That's the question that becomes the difference.
And sure, you could stay away.
You could choose not to take the path that presents the danger and the turbulence.
You could attempt to contain the world around you by simply refusing to experience it.
But then, of course, you become presented with the question,
why intentionally refuse to cash in a winning lottery ticket?
Why diminish your gift in such a way?
If it's not what you look at, it's what you see.
Why see the world as an adversary?
Why see yourself as less than you are?
The saying goes, when you fight for your limitations, you get to keep them.
You'll never exceed the person you've decided yourself to be.
And yes, the world can feel intimidating.
It's unknown.
You in many ways can't control the characteristics that make life what it is, but you can always control you.
Just like you can't control the wind, but you can adjust your sails.
You can't control the tides, but you can predict and plan and execute accordingly.
You control you, and that is where the power is.
And of course there's going to be times where that's hard to see.
when it's not your first instinct to find the value.
Take, for an example, a change, a loss, the end of a relationship,
the point where people tend to feel their lowest.
It hurts to have something and lose it.
To have what you were once so sure about challenged,
what you once believed in called into question.
But this doesn't have to be a referendum on you as a huge.
human being. Sure, you made your mistakes. But you have the opportunity to dwell on them
or to acknowledge them and ask the question, I know what I know now, how can I be better than
I've ever been in my life? How can I position myself to get more of the good and less of the
bad, same idea, different context? When those walls feel like they're crumbling down, you
You have to know there is more on the other side, just beyond what the eye can see.
And this isn't just an idea I play around with my head.
I make a concentrated effort to think this every time something goes wrong.
When my first reaction is emotional, my first emotion is anger or frustration.
It's like take a breath, compose yourself, and start looking for the value.
Because here's the truth, the world is not going to end today.
There's going to be a time down the road when I look over my shoulder and right now is a distant memory.
What will I have done with it?
And it's the times that might have broken you that contain the greatest transformation.
I like to say the greatest tragedies or the hardest times made me who I am today.
The losses taught me that I had everything I needed.
The failures showed me what I'm capable of enduring.
The times I was let down taught me to depersonalize the shortcomings of others, but to simultaneously hedge against them.
The times I was lost showed me we only discover or meet our potential when we leave the little day-to-day realities that we create.
Why? Because we are in control. Not of the external,
but the internal, and that ends up being a bridge to a reality that means something.
So when you find yourself at the base of a mountain looking up,
understand that there are two ways to perceive the climb.
You can see it as the gravity pushing down on you as Earth standing in your way,
or as an opportunity to ascend to a version of yourself that previously not only didn't,
exist but wasn't available. This is your opportunity. The same opportunity that the vast majority
of the world would disregard or misinterpret that most would feel fear of and be dissuaded by.
Most would live in the stories about who they aren't and what they aren't capable of,
but not you. You didn't place that mountain before you.
But you sure can't extract the value from it.
All you have to do is decide that you're capable,
and that the meaning and the value and the freedom of tomorrow
means more than the discomfort of today.
If you allow that for yourself,
you will become truly unstoppable.
Not because the path simplified or got easier,
but because the traveler trusted himself.
to walk down it.
The goal is to make your dreams envy your reality.
It's to create a life for yourself that is bold, that is adventurous.
See, most leave the best things for their imagination.
Their ideal world comes to life when they shut the lights off,
put their head on the pillow, and close their eyes.
But see, I'm asking something different of you.
I'm asking that you have the courage to wake up.
And from the second that light moves through your window and infiltrates your bedroom,
understand that the best things of life are on their way in this plane of existence.
I'm asking you not to save your dreaming for sleep.
Not to save your wishing for the imaginary.
Well, that's a big ask.
Easier said than done, buddy.
Oh, I know.
I know it's not easy, right?
There's an idea that's changed the way I think about life.
It's simple.
Three words.
Choose your heart.
Because pursuing a meaningful life is hard.
Let's be real.
It crushes the ego.
That's hard.
It's humbling. That's hard.
It's uncertain and at times uncomfortable.
It's confusing.
It's certainly frustrating.
It's all of those things.
Creating a life on your terms is hard.
But you know what else is hard?
Allowing beauty to be nocturnal.
Allowing everything that matters to you,
everything that's important, your dreams, your goals, your aspirations,
allowing all that to dissipate.
as the sun comes up.
And I've been there.
I've played that game.
And let me tell you, nothing is harder.
Nothing is harder than knowing you are on a path that's not yours.
Doing things you don't love.
All because why?
You're scared.
Carrying that around is hard.
At the end of the day, life is short.
It's fleeting.
An inconceivable little sliver of time presented to.
you. Not so you can create a cell and confine yourself to it, but so that you can take those
imagined thoughts and dreams and ideas and implement them. Look in the mirror, but really look.
Look into the eyes of that person staring back at you deeply and understand that in there
there is a strength that's inconceivable. A strength
able to completely reimagine and rearrange reality as you know it.
And sure, that's a big statement.
But the architect inside of you waiting to emerge and evolve is bigger.
And yeah, the world around you is great.
But your courage is greater.
And so while they open their eyes and say goodbye,
to their dreams, I beg of you.
Wake up and say hello to yours.
Greet it with an outstretched hand.
With conviction.
Choose your difficult and forge something beautiful in its flames.
Arm yourself with the reassurance that you left life's limitations behind you and you left no dreaming for sleep.
No, you had the.
courage to change your world while you were.
I talk a lot about taking care of the things that carry us through life.
Our minds, our bodies, our health.
They've gotten a little older.
I think like so many of us, I've realized that longevity also belongs in that bucket.
That's why I'm so excited to announce today's sponsor, Once Again.
It's founded by four PhD longevity scientists who study aging at the cellular level.
They have a proprietary peptide called OS1 that focuses on working with your skin to attack aging at the cellular level.
Like I said, I've been using it for a few months, very happy with it.
But it's the philosophy too, right?
It's being proactive.
It's taking care of your body and your health and your longevity instead of waiting till, you know,
the wheels fall off the metaphorical wagon to do something about it.
So I'm not alone in my ranting and raving.

And thank you for being a part of the process.
There's a saying that will always be true.
It will be true on your best days and your worst.
It will be true after victory, and it will be true after defeat.
It will be true when you have momentum,
and it will be true when you're down on your luck,
doing everything in your power to create momentum.
That saying is, your future begins now.
Hey, on the surface, might not seem like much.
Sure, my future starts now.
I know that, everyone knows that.
Well, if that's true, if everyone does in fact know that, why do we spend so much time stuck,
reliving our past unable to break free?
Why do we remain terrified to change?
Why do we feel such a connection to who we were, how others saw us?
Why must we remain loyal to the character we've been playing in our mental autobiographies?
See, here's the thing about the past,
in the future. One is fixed, can't be changed, and the other, well, it's waiting for you to tell
it what it is. One is expired time. One is planned to be determined. And it's interesting how we
continue to conflate the... Epicetus has said that the more things we value outside of our control,
the less control we have. Well, I'm going to be the messenger here relaying the precious truth
that yesterday is in fact out of our control.
What can be controlled is where we go from here, the next step.
Meaning today is not your failures.
It's where you take those lessons.
It's not your mistakes.
But it's what the stronger you can now endure because of them.
It's not the dreams you let slip away,
but where your pursuit might take you now.
And yeah, yesterday certainly contributes to your outlook, as all information does.
It's value considered, its impact assessed.
It guides you, but it's not you.
And that difference is astronomical.
There's a question about the role the past plays in our lives.
It has to mean something, right?
Your past is, in many ways, your story.
It's why you think the way you do.
It's contributed to your understanding of the world.
It will always be a part of you, and I believe that.
But I also believe the past is a story.
And just like reading one chapter in a book
simply sets the stage for the next one
without controlling its direction,
so does every day that has led you up to now.
Life gives us the tools to experience,
to grow, learn, and then shed that which does not coincide
with what's important.
Your failures are not you.
But they are precious and that they push you towards what you'd like to be.
See, you can experience something and not be that thing.
As Kirkagard says, if you label me, you negate me.
If you proclaim me to be X, you're essentially stealing from me the infinite possibility that is the future.
Yesterday has nothing to do with what I can become.
And so taking it a step further, never mind being labeled by someone else.
How could you label yourself and see it as anything but self-sabotage?
See, you're never defined by your past, but always learning from it.
It's not who you are.
It's the cheat codes for what you can be.
Without that winding road of misfortune and mistakes, the incredible expansion we long for doesn't materialize.
Imagine if everyone who ever felt down in life felt like a loser who temporarily lost hope.
Imagine if they looked in the mirror and said, okay, this is who I am now.
There would be no triumph in the world because anything meaningful requires the resiliency to map our way from the hell that was our darkest moments to what will become our proudest moments.
Destiny. Destiny, destiny means that.
that you separate the finite from the infinite.
What you used to call yourself
has prepared you to move towards the horizon.
But what you used to call yourself
is also as irrelevant now as those seconds
that you watch tick away.
Seconds that maybe you're not proud of.
Seconds that perhaps taught you about the world.
Seconds that gave you a glimpse of what's
Unveiled the happiest of times, all of it.
In its own unique way, it brought value, but none of it is your future.
Why?
Because back to that beautiful, all-powerful sentence, your future begins now.
Your destiny is awaiting its marching orders, and all you have to decide as you stand today,
is where that ship will sail.
Every single dream, vision, or idea in your life
starts with a simple understanding.
That it's obtainable.
That you can make it real.
That's the beginning of everything.
Self-belief is the gatekeeper that stands between current and future.
See, if you think of reality,
is as these city walls you're living in,
it's not crazy to think that there are going to be people
that only know that existence, within the walls, right?
That's what they see, that's what most believe, it's how they live.
It is only self-belief,
a confidence in something greater outside those walls
that opens the gate, that expands your reality.
And if you don't believe anything good exists on the other side,
why begin?
Why begin?
If you don't think you're capable of getting there, why start?
And this formula is simple, right?
Let's not overthink it.
We only move towards outcomes that we believe to be possible.
And that's more important than ability, skill set, strength.
I mean, you name it, believing in yourself trumps all that.
Because the person with an inferior skill set,
It may be an average natural talent, but they believe in something and they move towards it.
They give everything for this idea.
They know it to be true.
It will always be the talented person that's unsure.
The procrastinates that has one foot in and one foot out.
And if you don't believe in yourself, you're building a city on sand.
Because I'll tell you what, great things, they're great for a reason.
They're in rare supply.
They're limited, which means not everyone can have them.
Which means those who do have them have to fight for them.
Have to deal with being uncomfortable.
Have to give more, sacrifice more, pay a steeper price than the masses.
And if you don't look in the mirror, stare yourself in the face and know you are one of those select few.
What's going to happen when life kicks back in you?
You'll fall.
You'll resort back to what you.
you know, you'll flee the battle for safety, security, and comfort.
But when you know your movie ends at the top of the mountain,
when you know at the end of the day,
you're going to cross a finish line or hold a trophy,
your brain internalizes conflict differently,
very differently.
For someone with self-belief, obstacles don't make you wonder
if you should keep going.
Because you already know you have to keep going.
you have to keep going. I mean, come on, you haven't arrived yet. There's still a road to travel.
No, in this situation, obstacles simply prompt you to ask how. How can I get through this?
And that's a small discrepancy that changes everything. Because at some point, you'll look to your
right and you'll look to your left and you'll find very few people get to the how question.
They all stopped at if.
I wonder if I can do this.
I wonder if I'm capable.
Well, they'll never know.
They'll never see that sunset beyond those metaphorical city walls.
Because they never truly believed in themselves.
They never opened that gate.
Look, I went through 16 years of education without a teacher or professor telling me,
Eddie, 99% of life is just believing.
believing in yourself to figure challenges out as they come.
To figure life out as it comes.
That's it.
Only X percent make it through law school.
Only Y percent succeed at this and that.
That's what you hear.
But no, none of that matters.
It's simple, it's simple, it's simple.
Most of the world quits when things get challenging.
If you don't, if you have the courage to believe in trust in yourself, you'll succeed.
Why? Because you won't stop until you find a way.
That's the power of self-belief.
It's not quantum physics. It's not complex.
You know, at one point, I didn't think I could make a living outside of a cubicle or office building.
Then I saw others do it.
And for the first time in my life, I believed it was possible.
I changed my actions to support my beliefs.
And here we are.
At one point, I didn't think certain financial goals were reality.
I didn't know about a free, flexible lifestyle.
I wasn't aware of the type of relationships
that would change my life.
Why?
Because they existed outside those city walls.
I didn't believe they were real.
I didn't believe in myself to create them,
to make them in my own life.
But with the change in belief comes a change in reality.
You will always follow through
on who you believe you are.
So let's go.
back to that mirror visualization. At some point today look at your reflection and think
about nothing but what I'm about to tell you. Everything you need you have. I promise
you are equipped to change your life, the lives of everyone around you, and the
world in which you exist. So take that back, feel it, and never ask it again.
From now on the question is how. Your fate is not a
coin flip it's a puzzle it's about arranging the pieces and those two eyes looking back at you
are more than capable of figuring that out ask simply do you want it and if yes open that front door
take that first step and inject yourself into a journey that will be unlike anything you've ever
experienced before a journey where you have the answers the aptitude and now
the self-belief. And when you find yourself in the lowest of lows or the darkest of nights,
find solace in that fact that that will be more than enough to get you to dark.
