Welcome to Your World Within Daily. I'm Eddie Panero.
And in today's episode, we're going to talk about adversity and how those who succeed
don't struggle less or face less hardship, but rather think about problems a little differently.
So I'm going to start with the message I got from Jasper on Instagram.
He says, Eddie, you asked for inspiration for a video, or in this case, podcast episode.
And I like the style of the Heroes Cry and the story.
tells, which is a poem or a spoken word video I put out a year, maybe two years ago.
He says, I think it is important to shed light that the guys at the top also had doubts
on the journey, also doubted whether they could work hard the next day, which brings up what
I believe is one of the most important lessons we can learn in life.
The people that we, I call them in this video, the one that he's referencing heroes.
The people that, you know, we sort of place on a pedestal or really value their contributions to the world,
there's a tendency to think those people were cut from a different cloth.
You know, they have something intrinsically, we don't, maybe some natural ability, whatever.
And what I would advocate, what I truly believe is that's not the case.
There are people that faced hardship just like you and I.
but every time they walked up to that intersection, that crossroad,
they made a set of decisions that propelled them forward.
As Robert Frost says, when the road diverged in the wood, right,
when he's looking at a path between left and right,
they consistently chose the one that separated them.
That's what makes the difference.
to accomplish something or succeed in something in the long run does not imply that there was a simpler path,
a less obstructed path, right?
In an easier journey, it means you handled or looked at the adversity a very specific way.
And I'm going down memory lane here.
Another one of my videos I released called The Psychology of the 1%.
You know, I talk about this concept how I think most of us,
when we look at life, we think of steady, you know, things going the way we want them to go.
And then when obstacles arise, it's this big disruptor, a big break from the status quo.
And that's how it's internalized, right?
A giant anomaly.
Whereas the opposite of that, the 1% in this example, they view life as ups and downs.
they might not even view obstacles as negative, right?
Obstacles the way right here.
Things simply happen.
Situations are just situations.
We're the ones that tell stories about them being positive or negative.
That's not real.
Things are just things.
You know, versus really expecting ups and downs.
The norm is not flat ground.
The norm is not everything going great.
The norm is ups and downs.
And it makes you think about things differently.
because when the wheels fall off the wagon,
it's not, oh, my God, what's happening.
It's, okay, here we are.
This is par for the course.
How do we handle this and move on?
And so to Jasper's point, in Heroes Cry,
talking about our heroes,
and I'll drop it at the very end of the podcast as well for your reference.
But one of my favorite lines is there's heroes that I've never met,
and they've walked these same streets,
and they pushed through their defeats,
and they fought their wars long before they were chiseled into concrete.
They weren't destined for the level of success they've achieved
or the esteem that we place upon them.
They simply made a series of decisions that opened the door,
and they had bad days.
They're people.
They had setbacks, maybe even,
questioned their journey, their existence, their purpose, their why.
But when they got to that fork in the road, they decided to keep going in some capacity or another,
had the courage to adjust and carry on.
As my grandfather used to say, he was an admiral in the Navy, so on his day to day,
he dealt with a lot of heads of state and influential people.
And say, Eddie, every single one of them puts their pants.
on one leg at a time. They're humans and holistically very little differentiates. You, from me,
from him, from her, accept the decisions that we make. What do you believe when you feel down,
when you question yourself? Do you reel it in or do you anticipate, you expect that,
hey, listen, that's part of life. There's going to be days where I don't
feel good enough there's going to be days where I look around and things feel
overwhelming and that's when you make that decision that crossroads there at that
point in the road do you step up and find a way to carry on or do you retreat
that is the question so I'm gonna play Heroes Cry which again is a sort of a
it's a little different spoken word poem type thing so if that's not your your
your jam you can call it here and we'll pick up
But tomorrow, if you are interested, here is Heroes Cry.
I want to believe, trust in everything.
I close my eyes and wonder to heroes cry because they never talk about bad days or hard times.
Dreams can seem elusive like a sunrise.
And look, I want to believe just trust in everything.
And I close my eyes and wonder.
Do heroes cry because they never talk about bad days or hard times.
Dreams can seem elusive, like a sunrise,
and the biggest mistake God ever make
was to think there's answers.
Because those kingdoms,
but with unknowns, well, they fly banners,
and everyone circles through my mind
to define what matters, but it's subjective,
like brush strokes on a blank canvas,
and you can paint the world or paint
with longing circumstances, but that song's gonna play on.
You just decide who dances, get pulled in,
over again by romances,
with the wrong paths that don't love back,
just endless demands and see in reality,
we walk around the same street storytellers
with eyes that see exactly what we tell them to see
and march to a regular beat,
regular days, regular things,
misconceptions of what's correct
that tug on her heartstrings and look,
I want to be like you,
because I see the things you do,
the highlight reels that make me feel like maybe
I can do it too.
If I'd bravely follow through of life
just gave me a map to use,
but until now I've left out the,
part where it comes true and I want to believe trust in everything and close my eyes and hope to God
that heroes cry because sometimes I feel alone but hopeful of a better time and dreams can seem
as promising as a sunrise and look I want to believe just trust in everything and I close my eyes
and I hope to God that heroes cry because sometimes I feel alone but hopeful of a better time and
Dreams can seem as promising as a sunrise and there's no time to live inside boxes or categories.
Yesterday it was made of self-defeating stories and maybe I'll step out and leave all the self-doubt
and have the courage to find the kind of life that I've heard about but no one mentions the pain,
the struggle or rules of the game and no one highlights the years swallowed pride decisions made or not made
or the villains that won and got away or the time that we spent in last place.
See minutes or not.
There's nothing left for the well behaved, so I stop for a second, knowing that
oddly right to regret, and knowing I'd rather fail them forget, knowing there's heroes
that I've never met, and they've walked these same streets, and they pushed through their defeats,
and they fought their wars long before they were chiseled into concrete.
See, myths and legends, they're simply decisions to stop wishing and start creating
and build a world worth navigating.
Great, we remember their names, not because of a lack of mistakes, but because they
look the universe dead in the eye and swore to give what it's true.
takes and today I believe trust in everything and I close my eyes and know now the heroes cry
the tears are chapters and the masterpiece of our lives where dreams lift you up enough to
touch the sunrise and look today I believe just trust in everything and I close my eyes and no now
the heroes cry and the tears are chapters in the masterpiece of our lives where dreams lift you up
enough to touch the sunrise.
