Episode Date: July 10, 2020

In this episode I discuss the importance of creating perspective for ourselves. Just like a fish never realizes he's in water due to his inability to see anything else, we often become so consumed wit...h our own lives that we forget to step out and ask the important question: Is where we are going in line with where we want to be?

Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to Your World Within Daily. I'm Eddie Panero, and in this episode, I'm going to talk about the idea of perspective, removing yourself from your situation so that you can see it from a different angle and assess whether where you're going is where you want to be. So there's an old anecdote about, you know, a fish being in water, but never knowing he's in water because he spends his whole life there and is never removed from it. So he doesn't understand the context of a stream or the fact that there's anything outside it doesn't know what water is. He just knows this is his world.
Starting point is 00:00:47 You know, there's some perspective there that can never be gained. I remember living in Boston and kind of a similar thing. You know, I'm in the hustle and bustle, the city, and I love that, the taxis and, you know, the live music on the street corners and all that stuff. and then I'd go to this park and in East Boston and sometimes watch the sunrise take a shot, a picture, not take a shot, take a like a picture shot, and watch it come up with the sun and just thinking, my God, that's so beautiful and all that insanity is in that skyline, right? It's just, it almost seems incompatible. Same place, different perspective, different angle. And I think there's a lot of parallels to life, and it's a lesson I've learned again and again and again,
Starting point is 00:01:42 that we sort of become fish in our own streams, and we forget to remove ourselves for the sole purpose of awareness, right? Are we headed as the current taking us where we want to be? And so, you know, I've built freedom into my life, you know, sacrificing other things, right, for the ability to sort of detach. And it's important, right? I learn a lot removing myself and looking back. And tomorrow I'm heading to leaving South Florida, where I've been for three years, and I love it. And, you know, well, there's a lot of things I love about it. There's a lot of things I don't. But who knows? I may be back. I'm going to North Carolina for a few months to sort of detach, focus on, you know, speech writing videos, more of the creative side of things that,
Starting point is 00:02:35 I haven't neglected, but I haven't immersed myself in because, you know, I've sort of been swimming metaphorically, hopefully I'm not beating that to death, but, you know, swimming towards other things. And I want to take a step back and really think about what's important, think about what matters, what I value. And I'm a true believer that you can't see what's right in front of your face the same way you'd see it, you know, looking on from that East Boston, East Boston. and peer. So that is my question to you. You know, are you where you want to be? Are you in line with your North Star? And are you putting yourself in situations, right?
Starting point is 00:03:21 Manufacturing perspective so that you can step out. And it doesn't need to be, you know, months, somewhere else, or a year, somewhere else. Or it can be a week, a weekend. It can be quiet time every day, but are you stepping outside your world so that you can look back at it, right, and see your place within that realm a little differently? Because it prompts questions that are very important. And some of my best change has come from those epiphanies, those realizations. And I wouldn't be surprised if others felt the same way. So, you know, that's it. I mean, that's it. creating awareness, remembering what matters to you, and really examining whether you're walking down the path that you value and that makes you happy. There's one thing you can't
Starting point is 00:04:16 concede in life, right? It's your happiness. So let's not forget that. All right, guys, have an amazing weekend. I got a Sunday special coming your way, a little interview with Terry and Steve, who were my co-host on the podcast that I just left. They're going to carry the torch on that one from now on. But we thought it would be fun to do kind of a last hurrah for now. You know, I'm not dropping off the face of the earth, just kind of moving a few miles north. But chat a little bit, talk about our experience. And I think there's some valuable stuff in there for those creating a podcast.
Starting point is 00:04:58 for those, you know, in the business world and those just, you know, trying to, trying to live our best lives because that's what it's all about. So tune in Sunday. I think you'll get a kick out of that. And we'll talk to you soon.
