Starting point is 00:00:00 Nothing is ever broken beyond repair. Nothing's too far gone to be rectified or optimized. The question is whether you're willing to identify the requirements to fix it and then intentionally walk down that path of recreation. Matthew McConaughey said life is not fair. It never was. It isn't now, and it won't ever be. Don't fall into the trap.
Starting point is 00:00:35 the entitlement trap of feeling like you're a victim. You are not. Don't ever think your situation, no matter how dire, cannot be remedied, can't be fixed, adjusted, that it's not a stepping stone to something beautiful. You always have that control. Always.
Starting point is 00:01:02 I'm going to use the body as an example again. Not because I think physical fitness is the only thing, but because I think it is the perfect metaphor for life. I think if we understand physical resilience, grit, and persistence, we can handle anything the external world presents to us. I can't even articulate how at one point I was 1,000% convinced.
Starting point is 00:01:32 I was positive that I'd never be able to lift weights overhead again. My shoulders were just that bad. But chiropractor's body work, stretching, nutrition, supplements, sauna, all these things in over a year since that journey began, I'm seeing progress like I've never imagined. Despite the occasional flare-ups and injuries from time to time, but that's, you know, we'll chalk it up as life. I'll never forget my buddy saying to me, dude, you're not special. This isn't an Eddie curse.
Starting point is 00:02:05 Millions of people have shoulder issues. All over the world. Just do what you need to do. to fix it. Or a similar conversation talking with my bodywork specialist. Shazzy, she's incredible, and just the confidence and reassurance to be like, oh, okay, your back hurts when you breathe. Roger that.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Let's move a few things around. Let's get some blood flow to the aggravated spots. You'll be up and running in no time. When you're in these little valleys, you start thinking they're forever. When, in actuality, they're a minor setback. You work on it until it's resolved And maybe it's 95% resolved Or 80% resolved
Starting point is 00:02:51 Whatever, fine But you can get to a place where it's manageable Where you can work around it My friend and one of my fitness coaches Justin said Keep taking the supplements Stay on your vitamins, keep walking Keep doing your plunging your sauna
Starting point is 00:03:07 Because when this turns around And it will If you maintain You'll feel like you're shot out of a cannon It'll be way easier to get back into rhythm. And just that reframing of the temporary nature of what I'm going through, looking at it as truly a bridge to the other side, is everything. That's what was so powerful, the implication that this,
Starting point is 00:03:32 just like anything else, is a storm and all storms pass. So prepare yourself for the sunny skies, even amidst the chaos. And the idea is the same thing here goes with business, It goes with the arguments or the times we fall out with loved ones. It goes with creating or sharing your art on social media and not getting that positive reaction right away. It goes with feeling stuck in your career. The dead end.
Starting point is 00:04:05 But everything is fixable. Momentum is always one move away, even when we don't know exactly what the answer is. Because one step away from the wrong thing starts the journey. Moving away from where you shouldn't. B opens up space for new story, a new reality to take shape. In nature, forest fires seem like utter destruction, right? But ecologists know that many forests need the fire, that heat cracks open pine cones, seeds sprout, and the land is reborn greener in more vibrant than ever before.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Fire doesn't destroy. It creates new conditions for growth. Even though from the outside in, you know, something about that process just seems innately sad, disturbing even. So much beauty gone, so much change taken away, never to be the same. But in death, forged by flames,
Starting point is 00:05:14 life creates space for the next chapter. And I've been in that spot plenty of times Where you can only see the ashes and smoke You can only feel the gaps in your life, the overwhelm, I know that pain But I think the prospect that your turbulence is a forever thing Is what hurts most The pain of thinking about the delta Between your current situation and the ideal
Starting point is 00:05:48 Holding on to what's gone or missing That that spot is where the pain is It's why understanding the power of moving in the right direction is everything. It's why when you know there's a solution, even when it's not resting in the palm of your hand, that is enough. Enough to begin, enough to initiate change. The phoenix is a mythical bird that dies in a burst of flames and is reborn from its ashes. It symbolizes regeneration and transformation. pointing to the truth that nothing is ever really lost.
Starting point is 00:06:35 It's simply a precursor to rebirth. Everything is setting you up for the solution. Everything. So when you look around and see that combination of immobility and despair, I need you to remember. You're one step away from a new reality entirely, from transcending the ashes around you and moving higher than you've ever been.
Starting point is 00:07:00 you are not stuck or chained or tied to what was. No. The world is yours to build a new. If you can't see the path now, if it doesn't make sense, fine, just go. Let the answers materialize as you walk the path before you. Because in this world, everything. And I mean everything is fixable. You can become so fixated.
Starting point is 00:07:38 on winning or losing the game, that you forget to ask yourself, am I playing the right one? Is this my game? Am I setting myself up to win in an arena of significance to me? Because look, there are infinite games out there. And sometimes we find ourselves caught up in a race.
Starting point is 00:08:03 We have no business running. Meaning it doesn't really do anything for us. It's not where we want to be or should be. there's a saying by someone, and a few social media outlets actually restricted my post for suggesting it was Einstein. So it might not be Mr. Einstein. But whoever said it, thank you, you're awesome. The saying goes, everyone is a genius.
Starting point is 00:08:31 But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it's stupid. Now, there are a lot of us fish out there attempting, to climb trees as we speak, wondering why we're not where we want to be, perhaps seeing the results or lack thereof as an indication that we're insufficient, inadequate in some way, when, hey, that's not the case at all. It's that we haven't taken the time to identify our own personal intersection of what we love and what adds value to the world.
Starting point is 00:09:12 We haven't manufactured those fireworks. That's something that has to be explored, found. J.R.R. Tolkien, not all who wander are lost, right? And I think we innately fear this process of searching because it's unsettling to not know how things are going to play out. Trust me, I've been there, right? It's taxing to not have your packaged little elevator speech and a five-year vision when it seems like the whole world does.
Starting point is 00:09:43 But to deprive yourself of the same, this exploration is to potentially forfeit the very thing that you come to live for. Most of the time, purpose doesn't fall into one's lap. You have to have your eyes open. What's meaningful must be sought out. Now, I'm going to play a little devil's advocate here, because our world is not black and white. It sort of lives in this gray space, right? Can you win at someone else's game. Sure. There are a lot of people, quote-unquote, succeeding in areas that are not ideal, that they don't love, that they're not their best in, but how is success being defined? I've talked extensively about my journey and all those games I used to play the targets I used to
Starting point is 00:10:33 aim for. And I know a lot of people who've come to similar epiphanies, right? But when you don't realize you can exit stage left. and begin again, start something new, you simply continue this same song and dance. Right? It's not life that keeps us confined. It's ignorance that keeps us confined. We simply have to be taught that there's more. And I understand to find an arena where you can thrive in a purely historical context is a luxury. You are programmed to survive. You're not programmed to builds an art studio because it's your passion, right? But there lies the battle. We are at a place in time where we have collectively cultivated abundance. The phone you're using to consume this
Starting point is 00:11:28 content, that little thing can be a portal that transports your thoughts, your creation, your business to the masses. You have at your fingertips access to billions of people. You have it at your fingertips, access to billions of people. You have reach that humans only 30 years ago all the way back to the beginning of mankind could only dream of. The means are there. In so many ways, it's about freeing yourself
Starting point is 00:11:55 to pursue the opportunity that exists all around you because we self-limit. Alan Watts asked the ever-important question, what would you do if money were no object? Now, in a practical world, why ask such a question? Simple, because removing those monetary constraints as you contemplate your answer allows you to truly analyze what endeavors are meaningful to you. When something is meaningful, you want to do it.
Starting point is 00:12:28 When you want to do it, you immerse yourself in those little intricacies, in those details that the average person simply doesn't pay attention to. making you so good at whatever that thing is that eventually, not only can you be the best at it, but you can monetize it and probably at a very high rate. It's not money holding you back. It's not time holding you back. It's not the external world holding you back.
Starting point is 00:13:00 It's what you have been conditioned to believe that's holding you back. You are a genius at something. You are king or queen of your end. Empire, Victor within your arena. But to realize these things, you have to, one, understand it's a possibility, and two, refuse to stay stagnant. We have to stop conceding so much while simultaneously accepting so little. Life will never provide what you do not ask for. So why?
Starting point is 00:13:39 Why be scared to ask? Life won't tell you you're a fish climbing a tree, you must tell you that. Life won't expand your horizons and adjust your trajectory. You must initiate that change. To find your genius, you must be willing to leave what's insufficient. To capture what's meaningful, you must be willing to leave what is meaning. Let's agree to alter the question, do I have genius level talent? Because you do.
Starting point is 00:14:25 And you live in a society that also rewards those who realize it. The question we need to be willing to ask is are you willing to walk on shaky ground? To abandon, at least for a period of time, safety. and the comfort of predictability in order to find that genius. Are you willing to nurture the greatness that already lives within you? Because it was never a matter of ability.
Starting point is 00:15:03 It's a matter of what you're willing to discover. So you've made a decision. Congrats, you're 3% done. Now I'm paraphrasing, but that's an idea from author and entrepreneur Lee Benson. Belief and execution, the duo that will change your life. First, believe. Why? Because nothing happens without belief. Nothing begins without an understanding and a trust that the future contains something of value. That the seeds of discomfort being planted will bear fruit.
Starting point is 00:15:58 We simply don't walk through doors if we don't believe something of value exists on the other side. And then there's execution, the doing. Congrats, you gave yourself permission to begin. That was a big step, right? But now you have to deal with life, and life, my friends, is no picnic. It's in the doing that success is either obtained or not, that a new reality is, birthed or not. In the book, your most important number, Lee Benson has said, so you've made a decision, congrats, your 3% done. Why? Because, well, now comes the implementation, the execution.
Starting point is 00:16:51 Now the feet are on the ground and the wheels, the road, and we must transform the thoughts into things. Thinking can be so much more convenient. than doing. Execution is trying things. It's recognizing the attempts that didn't work. It's moving forward only to realize wrong path or wrong approach. Or maybe what's required of you is not yet something you're capable of producing, and so you must evolve.
Starting point is 00:17:33 It's seeing setbacks as data point. It's understanding that to not know is okay because we collect our answers as we go. And seeing the journey is an experiment, one in which we seek to understand ourselves and the world, there is so much contained in that 97%. It's a write your own ending storybook, an infinite number of paths and outcomes, but ultimately only discoverable by you. And I think that's one of the most beautiful things about life.
Starting point is 00:18:14 And once you give yourself permission to walk a certain path, once you believe in something greater than the world as it currently exists, you become an artist, painting something that was not there before. Using the highs as little benchmarks to remind you why you started to begin with when your landscape becomes gray. It's using the lows as fuel
Starting point is 00:18:43 that turns the ordinary into extraordinary, that slingshots the old you to the new you, adding brightness and vibrance to the overall scene. You're encapsulating all of it as you move through that great unknown. As you push further and further into the abyss, you're playing the role of Maker. Not because you knew how it would all turn out, but because you didn't and still you executed.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Recently in an interview, I heard Alex Hermosie and now accomplished entrepreneur in his own right, talking about some of his failings, consulting gyms in the fitness industry, the moment when things went south. And he lost it all. Now, for a moment, he thought he had. Money, assets, and perhaps even the pride, gone. But came to learn that money and those assets, they are lagging indicators. they aren't the value that's obtained.
Starting point is 00:19:55 The value is who you become. The value is learning how to be someone who can obtain those things in the first place. It's emerging from the old restriction and limitation, the old narratives, because that cannot be taken away. When we execute, we're making ourselves something we otherwise could never have become.
Starting point is 00:20:24 And so Alex learned that what he lost was insignificant compared to what he gained. And why is this such a common theme? If industry leaders, folks speaking on their accomplishments, I think the answer is simple, because you don't get there without the doing and the execution. And if to execute means to step forward
Starting point is 00:20:48 without having all the answers, after all, we are only human. Life will humble us. Excellence must be. be a game of trial and error. We can't escape those lost everything stories. Because choosing the right path every time, well, that only happens when you choose no path at all. We have to act and be okay understanding that action brings with it mistakes and lessons and
Starting point is 00:21:19 setbacks. You know, all those little annoying things that become greatness. 97% is left because the path before you is unwalked. But know that it contains everything. Everything you need. So believe it. Decide because nothing starts without that initial 3%. But nothing changes without the subsequent 97.
Starting point is 00:21:58 That's where we are shaped. And when you come face to face with the inevitable adverse, inevitable adversity, know that life might take the material gains. It might demand a price you deem to be steep. It might collect as a toll assets you've been accumulating along the way, but it can't take what you know or who you've become. And that is why you execute. To build the world around you, yes, but most importantly, to build yourself into someone who can thrive in such an environment. It's in doing that the man is built.
Starting point is 00:22:42 And as was said in Gary Keller's book, The One Thing, Build the Man, and the world falls into place. A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan executed next week. That's from George Patton, general in the United States Army integral to the Allies victory in World War II. So why? What makes this statement so powerful?
Starting point is 00:23:37 Well, it rings true because we have to move beyond the idea that we can manufacture greatness with one swing of the bat, one stroke of the pen, that if we wait for the right moment, perfection will come. The light will turn green. The stars will align. and the path will emerge. I feel like I could scream this from every mountain top, and it wouldn't be enough. Life is not a perfection game. Life is an adjustment game. And I'll speak anecdotally here.
Starting point is 00:24:20 In my experience, looking over my shoulder, reflecting those times that I'd clung to perfection, rationalizing my immobility by saying, hey, you're not ready. This isn't good enough. I'd only have to dig a few layers down to see that my not moving wasn't out of some loyalty to excellence. No, I was standing still because of fear. A fear of going, of starting,
Starting point is 00:24:50 a fear of the unknown. Perfection is the biggest con there is. It's a scam. It says, wait here. Your perfect moment will arrive. Hang tight. The right time is coming. No, there are no perfect beginnings.
Starting point is 00:25:10 There's merely the courage to move into something new or the regret that will ultimately come from wishing that you did. And sure, a part of it's almost counterintuitive. It's like, why isn't it beneficial to wait? Why would you want to take the leap before you're ready? Here's how I see it. One of the most important distinctions to understand is that between the thinker and the doer.
Starting point is 00:25:40 The thinker who ponderes, who reflects, who studies and studies and studies, thinking he or she can create for him or herself a perfect jump-off point, thinking they can obtain for themselves all the necessary information, all the answers before they begin the journey. The truth is greatness is forged through repetition via wheels on the road. And yes, you are terrible at first. Completely unsure at first. You get lost at first. But this becomes the knowledge that shapes the journey. When you go before you're ready, two important things happen. First, after falling down and feeling embarrassed and insecure,
Starting point is 00:26:36 you get back up, you look around and you go, wow, okay, I'm still. Still here. That sucked, sure, but it wasn't as bad as my brain told me it would be. Next, you learn from the exchange. You can start doubling down on what works and eliminating what doesn't. And eventually, as you take this confidence and wisdom onto the next step, repeatedly, the curve becomes exponential. In doing, you begin stacking bricks, creating a foundation.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Those experiences that humbled you become what you lean on. They're what turn into the experience, the knowledge, the credibility. And see, thinking you can skip all that ugly stuff by waiting on the ledge for perfection to arrive in your hands, that will be your undoing. That's just as crazy as a sailboat waiting for the wind to stop. It's like, no, you need that friction, that resistance to reach your destination. And no, we cannot control everything. Yes, there are powers beyond us.
Starting point is 00:27:50 But if you go now, you learn to use and navigate them. The greatest gift we can give ourselves is permission to go. It's looking a year ahead and dreaming of the moment. We pause and say, wow, what a year. The twists and turns, the lessons, the highs, the lows, the peak moments all brought me here. and how different here is from back there. How far I've come. Knowing, by the way, that life was never asking me for perfection,
Starting point is 00:28:26 but rather a willingness to start, to dive in, to adapt along the way. I know a lot of people with businesses that exist in their minds, but not in reality. A lot of people in shape when they close their eyes, but not when they look in the mirror. a lot of people living their best lives when talking about the future, but not when they pull up to work on a Monday morning.
Starting point is 00:28:57 We shorten the gap between our ideal existence and the present moment by going, by stepping now. Even when we can't imagine how the process will unfold. Because let me tell you, life will bend and twist in ways you can't even fathom. It'll take you places that ignite your soul, show you things you never dreamt of seeing, but you have to put yourself in position
Starting point is 00:29:30 to receive that from life. The world wants to help people who help themselves. So give yourself the gift of progress, of momentum, If a dream is only worth the action one is willing to take to bring it to life, let that action start now. Move beyond the illusion of perfection and towards the opportunity to take the imperfect every single day and transform it into greatness.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Every time your mind says you're not ready, let that be your invitation to step forward. See, life may not be a race, But that doesn't mean time will politely wait for you. We must say goodbye to perfection. As we evolve, as we grow. I can guarantee you it won't.
