A seed never looks like the forest that it will become, but it grows anyway.
Some days I need that reminder more than others, as some days are inexplicably heavy, but still I go on.
Not sure if it's impatience, maybe a temporary lack of belief, an inability to trust in the process.
Not sure why the valleys feel so deep and the droughts so long.
I'm not sure why the light can feel an eternity away,
the tunnels ending a mirage.
But still, I go on.
Maybe because it's all I know to do.
Pride holds me upright,
whispering that it's better to die on your feet than on your back
and that makes a ton of sense to me.
Maybe it's simpler.
Maybe it's because mobility at least keeps you in the game,
gives you a chance.
Maybe it's because somewhere deep down,
I know that what's coming is better than what's gone.
Whatever the reason I go on.
Putting out fire slightly faster than the world around me ignites,
and believe me, those margins can be thin.
But thin, more often than not, is plenty.
And a little is enough.
And the slightest glimmer of hope is a reason.
So still, I go on.
It's a decision that often leaves you stride for stride with yourself.
As the people that were previously there running side by side,
eventually came to conclude that there's an asymmetry between the cost and the probability of success.
That there are many roads in life worth taking, and well, my road is not one of them.
Is that a reason to hang up my shoes?
Or a reason to tighten their laces and wear out their souls?
No answers here.
Fine, I'll just go on.
The echoes of a coach from a former life looking us in the eyes and saying,
sometimes success is simply hanging on when others would be letting go,
bounces around in my head.
Where sometimes you don't need to know the right thing.
You just have to not do the wrong thing.
What's meant to be what's necessary will materialize,
leaving me to wonder is that all this is,
battle of endurance, a pain tolerance of sorts. Is that what separates the ordinary from the
extraordinary, the unicorns from the herd? Infinite possibilities, infinite potential outcomes ahead,
but only one if I stop now. So what lives beyond the bend? What exists down this road? I'll have to
let you know when I get there, because still I go on.
What's up guys, Eddie here.
And before we jump into the next chapter, just a quick note.
So, as many of you know, every single video that I've ever put on this channel
has been created with the intent of building momentum in your life.
If you want something physical to anchor that momentum,
we've created the brand AGNS, or Always Grateful Never Satisfied for that exact reason.
Athletic apparel that embodies the very ideas and concepts I talk about every day.
Because you're watching on YouTube or Spotify, we've created a code for this exclusive community, YWW20.
You can use that on the website, agns.lifestyle.
We're right under this video on YouTube.
All this stuff is there in the shop.
Again, code YWW20 gets you 20% off the entire store.
It's a great way to support the channel and also elevate your journey.
Let it be a reminder to keep showing up.
Appreciate your time.
Always grateful, never satisfied.
On to the next.
I once heard a metaphor that our existence is like standing behind a curtain with tears or holes,
and reality becomes which holes we decide to look through when we're peering out at the world on the other side.
What do we want to see?
And this message, well, it's for whoever out there feels like giving up or folding their hand.
Whoever's been waiting for things to change but only sees the clock moving forward.
This is a reminder that the very thing you need is on the other side of that curtain.
And you don't need to change who you are.
You just need to position yourself to see it.
Because it's there and you're ready.
When life hurts, we might have every reason to be in pain, to feel lost or confused,
but I always find it to be a beautiful reminder that we also have every reason to seek out from that pain,
something we've never been before.
Why is it that our greatest accomplishments come when our backs are to the wall?
Our greatest acquisitions after losing something dear to us?
Why is it that we find ourselves in our way only after being lost?
I've never heard someone say, thank God I never changed or left or tried something.
new. No, it's thank God the adversity forced upon me, the courage to evolve into something more.
Pain is to our potential what water is to a seed. It's the beginning of everything unshackling,
opening the gate, and making us realize we were sitting on the answers. That adversity doesn't
stop you. It makes you stronger. That the down times.
lift you up, that when you lose yourself, you find a part of you that can now become the bridge
to your future. See, I understand that things are difficult and challenging. I understand they're
not easy and I'm not asking you to pretend it's not happening or ignore it or close your eyes. I'm
asking you to find amidst all of this, that one thing, one thing that will get you to tomorrow.
I'm asking you to find the courage to say, yes, this hurts.
Yes, I'm stretched thinner than I've ever been,
but I'm still going to find a way.
I'm still going to make it happen.
Because at the end of the day,
you won't remember what hurt or what stood in your way,
but you'll remember what you did about it.
You'll remember how you arranged those pieces,
how when your instincts said run,
you stopped and built something you'll never,
forget. There's a saying that just because you spent a long time making a mistake doesn't mean
you need to continue making it. There's an incredible advantage in life for those who can separate
past and future, who can recognize sunk costs and walk away, walk away from the past, move on
to new things. But here's the challenge, right? Like so many things are instinctive.
is to preserve.
It's, yeah, but I've invested so many years.
I've spent X amount of dollars,
and maybe I don't like where I'm at,
but look how long it's taken me to get here.
Well, here's the reality.
That time is gone.
That money is not coming back,
no matter what you do
or what direction you take from here on out.
There's no reason to think
you have to maintain the same trajectory
or hold on to a specific identity
or pattern of behavior.
Yesterday isn't the focal point here, the goal is simpler.
What matters now and how will you get there now?
You've grown, you've evolved, you've changed, and your targets have shifted, so why shouldn't
you?
The idea of sunk costs is so important because it's essentially realizing that you're not
indebted to the resources you've spent or exhausted.
There's no need to be a slave to previous decisions.
that you've made. No, just chalk it up as an integral step in your learning process, an aspect of growth,
and move forward to what matters, to what you care about. If that seems obvious, I challenge you
to think about the decisions you've made over the last year, and I guarantee you, you've let factors
affect your decision-making that are irrelevant to your goals. Because we feel this camaraderie with
yesterday like there's a debt to be paid but man life is too short to run in place if it's not
pushing you forward drop it if it's not what you need forget it in other words don't be one of those
people that wakes up and makes the same mistake every single day because you've spent a long time
making it see reality only exists in your head and that's why it's beautiful you can unlock the
sell door and walk out.
Don't lose sight of the greatest gift you have.
The new beginning that lives in every second where you can take a turn you've never
taken before.
Remove the mask and play a role you've never played.
Let that sense of excitement pull you to new things.
Let go of what you can't change and pursue what you can.
Forget the time spent.
Think of now.
Where can you invest now?
Your surroundings didn't magically arrive.
You chose them.
And you can just as easily take that wheel and leave.
Simple formula.
What is best for you and how do you get there?
Not where you feel obligated to be or expected to be or pressure to be.
Where do you need to be?
Everything else is noise.
Everything else is a rope.
keeping your ship on shore, and you are not confined to that harbor for yesterday's destination.
You're built to chase the horizon, follow your curiosity into the sunset.
You don't make decisions based on yesterday's story.
You sculpt it with tomorrow's possibility.
The miracle isn't that I've finished.
The miracle is that I had the courage to start, John Bingham.
We all share a commonality, the runner on the starting blocks, the one at work, the one studying, the one trying to create the best life possible for their family.
See, we are all at a beginning, looking up at an idea.
Nothing given, nothing to adjust or react to no just an idea.
And ideas when we are at the bottom looking up, they're deceptive in nature.
their size, their weight, their breadth,
they like to present themselves
as much more than they actually are.
And so, to turn ideas into things one needs to see themselves,
not as some descendant of Mount Olympus
tasked with lifting that 2,000-ton boulder before them,
but as one armed with an understanding,
the awareness that the 2,000 ton boulder before them can be broken down,
piece by piece, that it is nothing more than a facade,
and while it may stop most in their tracks,
you are simply not most.
Not because the world treats you differently,
but because you see the world differently.
By knowing you are bigger than the sum of its parts,
you have defanged this world.
you have put yourself in position to do that which makes the world tremble,
that which causes even the most confident to doubt.
You have put yourself in position to begin.
See, there is a time to look at the top of the mountain,
breaking through the clouds, powerful and majestic,
and then there is a time to look at your feet.
And right now is the ladder.
You're not concerned with the big things. No, not right now. Your job is to move forward into this haze, to not see but adapt, to not know but trust. Things will materialize and you know that. But at the same time, you can't control the future. Your battle is right now, and it's with the space immediately in front of you. It's with the thoughts attempting to deceive you. It's with the things the out. The outbursts.
outside world will tell you, but forward motion is the antidote to all of that.
And so forward you must go.
The beginning is always the hardest because our thoughts are a mightier foe than life's
obstacles.
Thoughts take on lives of their own.
They become monsters, demons, dead ends, obstacles.
On the other hand, just ask that we adjust.
There is no obstacle that can't be addressed by steps.
stepping into it.
And so while the temptation is to sit thinking,
speculating about how challenging the road ahead,
this is where you think less and move more.
Harness the world as it comes,
because the truth is nothing is as big as it appears to be.
Life is incredibly solvable.
Every problem has a solution.
Every bad chapter ends.
Every setback is a chance to be more than you've ever been.
But how would you know that if you bowed down
to the mountains in your head, how would you know that if you never began?
So let today be the dotted line you sign with your future self.
A promise to be aware that the mountaintop peers over you, but to not be distracted by its
shadow, to take the climb one rock, one step, one second at a time.
Let it be an acknowledgement that nothing.
Nothing life throws at you can't be broken down and conquered so long as you don't get in your own way.
Gone are the days of being held captive behind steel bars of self-doubt and fear.
That road ahead is not the problem.
It never was.
Refusing to give yourself permission to travel down, it was the problem.
So without constraints, meet life head on.
Let the trials and tribulations emerge because they will,
but know that you will rise to meet them.
Let the unknown highlight all that you don't know.
You can't see.
Fine.
The one thing you are sure of is that you will,
one by one, transform the unseen into strength.
And when those thoughts emerge, telling you that you've gone too far, that you're in over your head that this isn't meant for you, know them, not as truth, but as the only obstacle that can derail and distract.
You don't have time for make-believe monsters.
No, not today.
So onward you go.
To map the unknown, to tame the untamed, to live your life the way it was meant.
to be lived.
In his play, measure for measure,
Shakespeare wrote in 1603,
a line that I think adequately sums up
the reason so many of us fall short
of what we are capable of becoming.
He wrote,
Our doubts, our traitors,
and make us lose the good we oft might win
by fearing to attempt.
Our greatest tragedies and regret
in life tend not to be our mistakes.
They're not when we try and we falter.
Now the vast majority of the time they arise
when we do not even attempt
because fear is prevented that very first step.
It's when we have that perpetual light
shined on all that can go wrong
while the upside and the opportunity sits in the dark.
dark, just out of frame. And in a world where you get what you focus on, to only focus on the
worst possible outcome, it's a death sentence. It's debilitating. The way I see it, there are a million
ways to improve something. There are infinite roads and paths and possibilities. None are certain,
but what is? Here's the interesting thing, though. The only search,
The only thing that is for sure is that if you don't go, you will not arrive.
One will never finish what they do not start.
Listen to this quote from Thoreau.
It's from his book Walden, which he wrote after about two years and two months of living
in the woods by Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts.
He wrote, I learned this at a very long time.
least by my experiment, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dream and endeavors
to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.
He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary.
New, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish the
themselves around and within him, or the old laws be expanded and interpreted in his favor
in a more liberal sense.
In other words, the world does not dictate, it reacts.
It becomes what we decide it will be.
And I was thinking about this recently.
Have you ever thought about the utility of water?
Just water.
and how it is obviously essential for life.
Specifically, humans can't live longer than about three days without it.
Yet, we can also very easily drown in too much of it.
The same thing that's required for life can easily take life away.
It all depends on how it's being utilized.
And so when I think about this, my mind goes to Shakespeare's message on
our doubts, making us traitors if we let them.
Or the rose passage about moving with conviction
towards the things that matter, towards our dreams.
And what I see is an intentional restructuring
of the world around us.
The idea that life can work for us or work against us.
It can be our headwind or our tailwind,
the reason we stay or the reason we leave,
and who decides
that. You. You decide that. I often think back to my first creative project once I took the
entrepreneurial route years and years back. I referred to the project as quiet desperation.
In reference to actually another thorough quote, most men lead lives of quiet desperation.
Because I realized around that time how easily that could become reality and decided to do
something about it. For me, it was a huge step out of the routine in the cycle. I finally,
finally asked myself who I was living for. Where did I lose myself? Or had I simply never bothered
to find myself? And I don't know the answer to that, but I know at the time, if you asked me,
you know, Eddie, what are you truly excited about? It'd probably be a lot easier for me to tell you
about the things I didn't like.
I was afraid of that I was unhappy with.
That's what I saw, that's what I focused on,
and that's the point.
Until then, I was immersed in Thoreau's dreaded common hour thinking
and so used to it that I thought nothing of it.
There was no next step or other side.
And then I arrived at that moment.
That moment I hope we all get to at some point.
Realizing there's very little to lose and everything to gain.
And it drives me crazy how hard we have to fight for this understanding.
How much easier life would be if it was intuitive, but it's not.
It's a journey, a muscle that must be built, and so we must build.
We have to prove to ourselves that what's big and intimidating can be broken down.
that what we visualize can materialize.
That will always be true.
But we need to make ourselves believe it.
Identity is scripted, confidence is earned,
not once but every day,
and we must understand.
The pain associated with staying far exceeds.
The pain associated with moving towards our dreams.
The former is destructive,
and the latter is what we need.
They are not the same.
So being as we choose what we see,
how about a commitment?
Not a commitment to be perfect.
Not a commitment to have all the answers
or avoid mistakes.
No, how about a commitment to allow ourselves
the courage to be imperfect?
A commitment to go when we don't have the answers.
a commitment to see mistakes as a necessity instead of a catastrophe in this world of subjectivity.
Make sure that movie, playing in your head, illuminates the opportunity, not the loss.
So that when you fall, the inclination isn't to run from the bad, but to look for the good,
because I promise you, you will get what you look for.
That perspective will alter your actions, which will alter how you see yourself, which will alter the trajectory of your life.
Let's leave that mediocrity, that common hour thinking behind as we head for higher ground.
Commonality being average, it's a wolf in sheep's clothing.
It seems simpler.
Sure, it seems easier.
But the ones immersed in that world, they're depriving themselves of the answers they desperately need.
They're refusing the hand that is perpetually reaching out.
When we turn our backs on the extraordinary, it is because fear has gripped the wheel,
and we are now passengers along for the ride.
But you have the ability to be more.
You have the ability to move towards what matters to you.
To take the steps one at a time, bear the discomfort one second at a time, acclimate one day at a time,
this is a journey dependent entirely on you and your willingness to step out the front door.
To finally see the things you previously disregarded.
And when your eyes open, you'll see that you can be your ally or your enemy.
This can be the beginning of a new chapter.
the continuation of a current one. This is your story. And by the way, that doesn't mean others
wouldn't love to make it theirs. Wouldn't love to tell you that life is beyond your control.
Wouldn't love for you to think that you are dependent on the outside world, that you need them
and what they are willing to provide for you. But no, this is about you. Understanding that the
first step starts with you, your decision, that your autonomy is a strong.
strength and a chance to begin again.
Change the way you think and what you get changes.
It's not magic but practical evolution.
When we force ourselves to see the positive, when we look for a way, we find it.
That's reality changing because you decided that it should.
And that's what the power of perception is.
Nothing more than unlocking the gate that was previously placed before you.
There's no better time than this very moment to walk through it and rewrite your story as it should.
