in need. That's too bad. They say that they have a plan. Just trust money's most powerful
man. Mistakes are made by some for all, but no one ever takes the fall. And there's no
end to your ability to do that. There's no end to our ability to do that. Money, money,

Hello, and welcome to another episode of You're the Voice.
I'm so happy to be with you, with the best guests in the world.
I'm bringing all the truth lovers, freedom lovers, Bitcoin lovers from around the world.
And today I have the honor of sitting here with Carla.
Hey, Carla.
Hello.
Thank you so much for having me.
My pleasure.
So I'm just going to say before I start that this episode with Carla is a bit special for me
because I have a feeling this is going to be a very important interview for you.
I don't think anyone has put the spotlight on you like this before.
It's true.
And I think that it's time.
Yes, bear with me.
So I'm very excited to be the one kind of revealing you to the world through a podcast.
I'm excited, yeah. Cool. Nervous, but excited.
So for my audience that don't know you, I want to do a quick intro and then we'll start chatting.
So Carla is the creator-in-chief in a duo called The Crypto Couple with her husband Walker.
And by the way, if you don't follow Walker and Carla on Twitter, you should. It's a delight.
Carla is an eccentric woman who combines her skills in theater, music, writing, and video production
to create satirical and educational content around bitcoin and current events she loves to make
people laugh cry and cringe i love it carla has degrees in journalism and business that she
doesn't use because she'd rather educate others about bitcoin thank you for that i mean it's
amazing had someone educated her sooner she would have spent less money on degrees and more on
Bitcoin. Correct. Carla is emceeing in the event here in Nashville which is a big
role so congratulations for that. You've done it already last year? Yes. And the
year before or just last year? Just last year. Okay cool and you're doing it in many
events around the world right? Yes. Super cool and I got exposed to you when I
started becoming addicted I'd say to Bitcoin content and and I still am I
mean every every available minute or hour I have I learn I either read a book
or if you listen to a podcast or just scroll on Twitter.
And I saw your content and I'm like, damn, this woman.
First of all, she knows what she's doing.
But secondly, she's got it.
She's switched on.
Like she understands.
I felt like you have a bullshit radar
and that you can smell the lies from miles away,
which I love, thank God, that people like you exist
because we need more of that.
And we need those people to speak up.
So thank you for what you're doing.
It's a pleasure to do it.
Yeah. And let's start. So tell us about what you do in your day job and what you do in your night job.
So, well, my current day job is now, I'm a new mom. So that's basically my 24-7 job.
But before that, well, do you want like the whole background?
I want everything.
Okay. Because like, it's actually kind of a weird story how Crypto Couple got started.
Let's do it.
So it was a pandemic. My husband and I were both working for a family company.
We work in two-way radio distribution and system integration.
It's boring.
Basically, walkie-talkie is distribution.
It's a family biz.
You rent it out to people?
We sell.
So it's like basically...
Selling radio systems.
Yeah, exactly.
Not glamorous at all, right?
So then the pandemic started.
We moved up to Wisconsin, a small town, and we were just looking into the problems with
capacity, you know, social distancing, all that.
And we already worked in software and hardware.
so we were like let's build a company around anonymous occupancy detection because we wanted
to tell you like let's say you want to go to a bar but you were like covid conscious you're like
okay how busy is it so we actually started working with an engineering team on hardware and software
we built an application we built a prototype and we were using lidar because like our whole thing
even before we got into bitcoin like we always believed in preserving privacy and everything
and a lot of systems i mean right now you have ai facial recognition everything is camera based
so our whole thing was like we're not using cameras we're using lidar which is completely
anonymous which is a laser to detect motion motion and exactly so we were building those
and we were about to go to manufacturing so the company was called busy we were ready like we
you know we ordered all of our parts and then the chip shortage happened so you're like you know
sony can't get chips and nissan can't get chips like of course our little startup can't get chips
like our parts are still delivering this was three years ago we ordered them so we were really
depressed on the couch like basically our startup after we've been working on
for a year and a half just went literally boom overnight because we're
like we can't get the main component for our hardware mm-hmm so we were really
depressed couch but at the same time we were learning about Bitcoin on the side
we were lurking on Twitter and at this time I got more into video production
again because I was doing marketing for busy and or busy was the startup yeah so
I started doing video production again which I hadn't done since college but I
And I was like, oh, I forgot I liked video editing.
And then we were lurking on Twitter, depressed, sitting on the couch.
And I looked at Walker and I was like, why don't we just lighten up the space a bit and make a stupid Bitcoin video?
Like, let's just make a video about the types of Bitcoin haters just for fun, right?
Like, I'm in the mood.
We're both feeling sad.
Like, we have some funny ideas.
Like, let's just do it for shits and giggles.
So we do.
We create this first video, which took like 14 hours, right?
Like, dressing up as characters, blah, blah, blah.
And the first one ever on TikTok went viral.
cool and we were like what like wait people like this and were you viral before just with that
literally never it was our first video wow it was a crypt and like we were just joking like the
crypto couple it has two c's ha ha right like we were just doing this like just to give ourselves
a creative outlet uh-huh and then all of a sudden we have all these comments like another one another
one so then walker and i are like okay let's do it let's make another one wow so we just kept
producing content to the point where all of a sudden like i'm here doing an interview yeah like
that's insane like i'm seeing yeah but it all started with one silly idea one silly video and
like this is what i mean where it's like if people want to get started in this space yeah it's like
you truly have no idea how one tiny decision can absolutely ripple into one of the biggest
changes of your life and consistency is key because there were a lot of haters there was a
lot of like animosity vitriol like you need thick skin but it gets thicker the more you're insulted
right we'll talk about that too yeah but you know we just kept going like i really do believe
showing up and consistency are like the two most important things like i know it's cliche as hell
and they're hardest they're the hardest but they're actually not if you start like yeah just
get there it doesn't have to be great just stop overthinking stop over planning yeah you're so
right and like that's like i still sit here and i'm like how the heck did that start up that
imploded and then and now I'm here like I still don't even believe that's reality well it's all
very accurate and I think in in some shape or form this was your divine guidance because
as we know today this whole bullshit about social distancing was just a lie and so it's maybe it's
good that the startup didn't start up right and that you actually listened to your gut feeling
that told you maybe I should create some content because I like doing that I didn't do that for a
long time i think that's the thing like you actually listen to yourself yeah at that moment
so as much as it felt like stupid or you know oh it felt very niche or not important it was
probably what your true self wanted to do yeah i would say so and especially during the bear market
too like everyone was so depressed so it's like everyone needed the humor you're the voice is
brought to you by treasure the original bitcoin hardware wallet company pioneering the development
of self-custody for crypto assets since 2013 empowering individuals with an open source device
enabling beginners and experts to easily and securely hold their coins i find my treasure
super easy to use and recommend it to my friends and family enjoy my five percent discount on
treasure product by clicking the link in the show notes and using the code flat like i mean so yeah
so that's your thing so you take topics that you identify as important and you bring something else
to them so why do you do that and how do you do that so well as someone who was lurking in the
space for a long time like you know explain to people what is lurking lurking so like i was on
twitter but like i didn't have carla bitcoin like i wasn't the crypto couple i was just myself and
like i was you know looking at youtube videos podcasts like book recommendations but like after
a while like you listen to a lot of podcasts you read a lot of bitcoin books and then i'm someone
who's genuinely interested in the technology right so i was like how are we going to reach people who
have no interest in the technology like it's not going to be by putting a book in their face
correct like especially in this generation that's like scroll swipe swipe yes so i'm like okay what
am i good at short form right distilling complex information into simple sound bites so when it's
actually a lot harder than anything it is so hard like the script writing is what takes the longest
yes I mean production takes two but script writing to like really take complex subjects and not only
make them digestible but like hooking people because if you don't get people within the first
three seconds you're not gonna get them exactly and that's why you know some people will say like
we're a little outrageous and whatnot I'm like yeah that's the point like we can't all be
the elegant polished authors right some of us have to be a little more outlandish and grab
your attention yeah we all have our role exactly and that's your that's your calling i think so
i love it and um i've got more questions about your background because you you're you're a bit
stingy so we have to go back um so your background romania yes tell tell me about that so your
parents and i'm originally from romania i was born in bucharest so this is another reason i think
that like bitcoin was kind of a natural fit for me let's say why so basically my father defected
communism in 86 and then i was supposed to come over but something happened my mother's passport
no one really knows somehow it was magically stolen i was born over there i was able to come
back later or come to america later i mean her romanian passport was stolen yeah so um she wasn't
able to travel i was born there and then it was whole it took me 13 years to become an american
citizen 13 years yeah so that's your parents moved to america my dad your dad moved to
to my dad defected and then okay he wasn't able to come back until communism fell right yeah right
and you weren't able to join him no i wasn't no because i was still like that was 86 i was born in
uh 92 okay but we were still over well my mom and i were still on the other side um but basically
and your parents stayed together even though they were in separate countries wow wow that must have
been hard well like it's it really shaped a lot of my upbringing like being from a post-communist
country right because first of all if you have foreign parents they never like forget it it's
like i grew up in a communist country like what do you have to complain about no which is true
like objectively like you're right yeah but you know this whole idea of not trusting authority
like not trusting the government really fighting for yourself was instilled in me from a very young
age my dad um he hold on i gotta ask you so so would your mom or dad sit with you and actually
tell you listen like the government is doing this you should know the truth because i did the same
with my son and i'm wondering like how did they do it with with you did they just tell you up front
this is what the government does this is why it's a lie yeah this is what we should do and wow they're
very outspoken yeah forward yeah clear i wouldn't say how was it for you as a child it was interesting
because like i was balancing two worlds you know like i was in american schools but at home like
you know everyone was still like learning english like so but that was my normal yes like i didn't
know anything else so like looking back i'm very grateful honestly for having that dual point of
view but you know it's like something where i'll get a question like walker my husband will get a
question like oh like how do i get my wife into bitcoin like you're so into bitcoin and like
why how and i'm like i think a large part of it is because of my background like i don't think if i
grew up or i did grow up here but if i didn't have the history and the heritage that i do that
necessarily i would be as attracted to and open to something like bitcoin so i do think that played
a huge role in it and that's the thing it's not like i just magically was like i'm gonna pick it
up it's like no i've kind of always been anti-establishment and all these other things
like my dad is like a phd in computer science so like i grew up around tech my whole life
yep my dad was like telling me about the federal reserve like he taught my husband about the
federal reserve that's awesome so who like that's what i mean where i'm like with bitcoin fake
coming to my lap i was like i love it my dad's actually the first person who told me about
cryptocurrency did he yeah so he's a bitcoiner clearly he is now okay um and he was just telling
me he's like you know i heard about this bitcoin ethereum whatever this is in 2017 and i was like
oh i can't buy a whole bitcoin so i was like i'm gonna buy ethereum right and then i bought right
at the top and then it crashed and i was like what is this crap i'm out i'm out i'm never doing this
again. But then, you know, pandemic came around and Walker was like, maybe we should look at
Bitcoin again. And it was still like, wow. And it wasn't until it rallied again. It's like,
why don't we get it sooner? Well done. I mean, for not giving up. Okay, got it. So what's your
view about the state of things today in the US? Well, it's very easy to be a doomer. I truly do
believe that being an optimist takes courage. And I'm someone who was not courageous in the past.
I used to be a huge doomer, a huge pessimist.
Were you? Before Bitcoin?
Before my son.
Even during Bitcoin, you know, I found myself falling down the same.
Like, it's really easy to look at the problems.
Yes.
But I have more motivation now than ever to try to fix them or at least do whatever small part I can.
And if I don't have optimism, there is not even a slight chance in hell that I'll achieve anything.
Because what am I going to do?
Sit down in the corner and cry about how much the world sucks every day?
No, I can't afford to do that.
Yeah.
So like I'm choosing to be optimistic. I'm choosing to see what's happening right now is an opportunity for change versus just yeah
This is it. We can't change the system
Let's all just like yell on Twitter about it and that'll fix something like, you know, you know again
like I'm sure there's more I could be doing I should from an
More mobilization standpoint, right? Like I am one of those people who's yelling on Twitter, but at least I'm aware
I like to think that you know
there is more that I could be doing and I'm not giving up hope and especially not in America
because you know what America has its problems but if America goes down like what hope is there for
the rest of exactly the western world like the home of the brave and the land of the free right
yeah so I I have to be optimistic there is no choice I agree with you and and I want to challenge
you you're saying I'm the one one of the people that is yelling on Twitter you're not yelling on
twitter your your work is actually expanding people's consciousness and allowing them to see
something else or something different than what they're being fed automatically in all those
veins of lying mainstream media so i think that what you're doing is not just yelling you're
you're making them think right and you're introducing that in a very sophisticated way
because as you said if you don't hook them up at the beginning they won't listen and you make them
listen right and you probably make them question and i like that you said that because that's
always been my intention i have never ever explicitly said like buy bitcoin or like do this
i always say like ponder this do your own research ask the right questions because i'm not here to
give directives i never have been like buying bitcoin maybe isn't for everyone right like if
you're barely making it paycheck to paycheck and you can't like what am i going to say go buy
bitcoin right like that's why i always just want to inspire curiosity and you know just get people
into bitcoin without necessarily making explicit bitcoin con like content which is why like when
i do the holiday songs you know i talk about inflation i talk about government overreach you
know ai facial recognition and then i slide bitcoin in there and i love the comments they're
like man i love this video until she said bitcoin uh-huh but i'm like listen if we're on the same
page about so many different things. Like, don't you think maybe, maybe we can have a discussion
about Bitcoin? I'm like, what are the odds? We agree on all these things, but not this one. Like,
maybe we should talk about it. I love it. I love it. It's exactly my approach. And you know,
this podcast is not just a Bitcoin podcast. I talk about many other topics. I talk about health and
about, you know, COVID pandemic, climate, politics, digital transformation, because there is so much
that the freedom community is seeing and is able to process and then when it gets to the money
right issue they stop and they go we need cash and i'm like hold on right there i mean cash is good
it's a short-term solution it's not the long-term solution and going cashless is honestly like
scary it is scary for sure that shouldn't be happening for sure but then i'm inviting them
to learn more about it yeah by having conversations with people like you and i was actually really
excited when like i heard about your podcast specifically because i think the bitcoin space
can be such an echo chamber yes where like everyone has bitcoin podcast bitcoin books
bitcoin over and their audience is all bitcoiners and i'm like okay well like how is that useful
right so it's like when i saw it was like someone else who has like a big platform a big podcast
talking about other subjects is interested in bitcoin it's like okay wow that's someone who's
actually exactly exposing a new audience to something that we all talk about and i'm like
that's what we need like that is what i try to do but you know i fall down the hole of memes and
like funny inside jokes no but then no no no it's hard not to you know just shut up we each do what
we need to do but yeah i i'm with you and you you'd be surprised that most of my audience is um
there are people that woke up during covid but a lot of them are like boomers great and and they
all buy bitcoin now like they message me and they go okay okay i'm convinced how do i start i love
it i'm like wow this is amazing it's an outcome that i really didn't expect or anticipated but
it's like when when you start doing your thing yeah and you're just so connected to who you are
and you know you try to block off all the noise and the hate and everything you find that it is
very useful for a lot of people and even if it's a couple people though you know like i remember i
was doing some like educational videos on self-custody right and like you know like get
your bitcoin off exchanges get your bitcoin off exchanges right and like you know i had people
on my tiktok being like oh i took my bitcoin off celsius and ftx like because of your video like
thank you so much because they didn't exactly you know it's like if i can help like even five people
do that then that's like i'll sleep well at night i'm with you you say you don't use what you've
learned in journalism and business come on i'll challenge you that you are what do you think you
are using and where well i'm not a reporter or a business owner anymore right um no but is media
really what's been promised to us well and what i studied when i was in journalism school like there
was still objectivity right like we were learning news writing we were learning you do not have an
opinion you were docked points for having an opinion for having any sort of bent you know it
was like you're just supposed to report the facts and now everything's basically an opinion piece
without the title like without being labeled opinion so i'm honestly not upset that i didn't
go into news writing um and you know i went business is always useful it's funny because
what are the skills that you're taking from it and using today well so initially i i always wanted i
studied i didn't study back in the day like i was in theater i don't know if you can tell
if you wouldn't say it right now i could never know i was a classically trained singer and you
know all that good stuff and i wanted to pursue that but my parents and very wisely of them were
like no you're not gonna go to college for fine art and I was like okay you're right so in a way
what's amazing about this world that I've fallen into even though I worked very hard to create
you know all the stuff that supports me um it's like I'm using stuff from every period of my life
I am using my theater background my musical background I am using my communication journalism
background like through writing script writing right like writing isn't easy and this is before
chad gbt all of our scripts were written by us and rhymes yeah like which is so hard and like
it's you know rhyming is very hard chad gbt is actually like not even good at this stuff because
it's like such a nuanced niche too and like from the business side i mean i think that side just
helps me interpret the world around me to make better choices you know for my family um and
everything else like in a way i am using everything just not independently and i mean at this point
a stay-at-home mom too so I guess when you have a child you understand how much
bigger this life is than just like you and your egoistic you know looking at
yourself and thinking about yourself all day there is actually someone else that
you need to think about and to make the future better for them exactly and like
you know looking back it's like when you're a child you don't realize that's
what your parents are doing are what they're doing for you right and now as
an adult I'm like that's exactly what they did for me right like they came to
this country to give me a better future right and then like we see what's happening in this country
it's like no i want to work and do whatever i can to give my son a better future like we're all
paying it forward but you know as a kid you don't realize that's kind of a beautiful cycle and then
you start becoming a little bit nicer to your parents because yes i am so so grateful that's
funny okay um how content creation develops your evolves you personally if it does it's sort of a
love-hate relationship okay so that's the funny thing people are like oh like we'll be like your
team is so great i'm like my team i'm doing makeup i'm doing costumes i'm doing writing i'm doing
singing i'm doing editing i'm like the team thanks you um so it's actually like i burned out because
like at one point we were putting out like a video a day and like we were we had like no followers on
twitter at the time so this was like all on tiktok and we were just churning out like really silly
stuff like the stuff that went viral is like the more intelligent stuff but we used to do just like
downright silly still funny and still topical like with regards to current events but it was much
more silly but yeah it's a lot of hard work like we're talking like i was like sitting in front of
a screen for like 16 hours a day editing because like what we also did was like timely right like
a lot of the reason our content did well is because it was relevant like if so if something
happened in that news cycle that day i can't put out a video two days later i was like this needs
to come out tonight so you know i'd be on my computer editing like a mad woman my husband
like hillary has like photos of videos i mean just like he's like can you like take a step away from
the monitor he's like do you need glasses like it's your prescription because i'm like i'm gonna
listen to this one part one more time um but like i actually did love doing it and i miss doing it
i just uh don't have like like i can barely get 20 minutes to myself during the day because you
know seven years old yeah so i hope to i might like you know start like outsourcing stuff okay
you know when something's like your baby and like you want all the creative control yes i know
because i'm a control freak as well that's why i don't even know if i can ever delegate like maybe
that year of my life is just over and i'm gonna do something new i don't know maybe okay got it
and then you're talking about consistency and showing up and i claim that these are some of
the hardest things to do how do you think that develops who you are as a person because you need
you need discipline and you also need to overcome your inner dialogues oh definitely i don't feel
like it or what would people think about it or all the criticism i got last night for that video or
all that bullshit like all that how do you win that so there's like a phrase there's there's two
phrases that always kept me going it's a cringe takes courage right like doing something that
makes other people uncomfortable like it's not easy to do it's not for the faint of heart so
cringe takes courage and also like there are some people who create and others who just criticize
and like no matter what I'll always be on the side of the creators and like feel good knowing that
I'm the creator not the critiquer so those are two phrases that always kept me going even when
you know sometimes you get like really mean things but like i also that comes with the
territory like yeah if you don't put yourself out there yeah exactly don't put yourself out there
right exactly but another one of the main reasons that i was able to keep going that we were keep
able to keep doing this it's like it was fun like we genuinely enjoy doing it it shows and like
that's the thing no one was paying us to do it like we did it all on our own side time and like
that's why we're able to say what we want be profane make fun of whatever we want because like
no one's funding us to tell us what to do and like we just genuinely like it was fun for my
husband and I even like as a bonding thing right like yeah imagine you're just like with your best
friend yeah like making fun of the world making funny content like it's awesome so I mean just
keeping it in perspective and like honestly like those few comments that'll say like I've been in
a rough patch and like this was the first thing that made me smile in a long time or like this
made me laugh today like that's honestly like means the world to me because I think deep down
aside like i'm an entertainer like i like making people forget about as much as i want to educate
people about the world i also want people to take a moment and forget it and like laugh and breathe
yes so yeah there's a beautiful sentence very profound that my boyfriend always tells me
if you want people to love you go sell ice cream on the beach right stop doing what you're doing
exactly so profound right but he's so right it's it i mean it comes with a job like you can people
please or not like you know have any opinions on anything and that's like one way to play it and i
don't judge anyone who does that yeah but like that's not for me and that's why when people
think that they can get under my skin by like you know either personal attacks or like calling me
cringe it's like oh wow never heard that one before like you got me oh no i'm gonna quit now
especially now as a like new mom i'm like i've just been through like now i really like i'm
untouchable like come at me haters like also don't and i and i can't understand why would
people hate you guys like you were the most lovable couple i've seen it's so funny let's
take a quick break to hear another one of carla's masterpieces we'll be right back
We'll be right back.
And force without state violence
Down the rabbit hole I fell
Learning things they'll never tell
About how money's truly broken
So many truths were left unspoken
Then my eyes were opened by the flash of an orange light
That's worth the fight
Revolting with our violence
And in the orange light I saw
I'm purely here to be a version of electronic cash
Millions of people may be aware
But all I want to have pain is to be safe directly from my creator
I think that sometimes people are intimidated
by people who are unapologetically themselves and what I also noticed from
being online pretty much chronically is that like happy people are not mean they
can be critical or you know constructive but they're not just mean so when I see
something like that I'm like you're just not a happy person and like I pity you
and I hope that you do find joy in your life yes I'm with you that's exactly
what I feel about the haters that come after me you guys should definitely open
a gazer page and start crowdfunding we actually did a couple years ago does it exist um we should
put the link to it walker does that side of things like we like accept donations like you know and
now like on nostre like we get like zaps and stuff so that's been pretty cool okay we'll put links to
everything that was the first time actually like we've monetized like anything because like on
twitter obviously like yeah but nostre it was like oh my god like you know what for my audience that
don't know, can you give a quick explanation on what Noster is and what they can do there and
why it's good for content creators? So Noster stands for notes and other stuff transmitted
by relays, which is a fancy way of just describing what is like a protocol. Essentially, it is just
code, but it is basically decentralized code where people can run relays that basically don't allow
anyone to censor anything because there are no centralized bodies, companies, databases. Exactly.
One of the use cases that is most popular right now is social media, right?
So people are building applications on top of the protocol, like Domus, like Primal, like, you know, what have you.
Amethyst.
Amethyst, exactly.
That enable creators to share content the way you would on any platform.
Yep.
But instead of only receiving likes and views, you have a wallet attached to your end pub that allows you to receive money.
Like, that's the thing.
Let's not call it Bitcoin.
let's not call it stats it's money yep it's all the same thing it is so via that and pub so that's
a first right like no one's doing it tiktok kind of tried to do it but let's be real tiktok is like
the king of centralization we moved to twitter because we got banned on tiktok yeah so um are
you still banned there uh no but we got throttled so it's like any new video wasn't being put on for
you pages and it was like i literally sang the word covid i'm like i'm singing like come on i
I didn't even think they'd tell, but, you know, those algorithms.
I mean, they literally have, like, the software is looking at every little element.
Like, I had a small scene with a cigarette, and it got taken down, right?
Seriously?
Mm-hmm.
But then after that, like, it goes to a personal review.
So, like, with certain videos, they'll go to, like, a human reviewer.
And they're still like, no, I'm like, the crazy stuff on here, and I'm getting penalized for a cigarette?
But, you know, you can post whatever you want on Noster, and you won't get penalized.
Of course there's a flip side to that, right?
Like, the double-edged sword of complete freedom of speech.
just like, yeah, you're going to see things that you find distasteful. Yes. And you can mute them,
right? You just can't prevent anyone else from publishing if they want to. Like you're at your
own feet, but you cannot report someone to be like, hey, I don't like what this person's saying,
take it down. Or it can't be like, you know, I mean, Elon Musk with X, like, sure, he's taken it
in a better direction, but it's still centralized. You know, like there are still rules, like he's
still bending the knee to foreign governments, which like, you know, his whole thing is like,
I'm just respecting local laws, which like, it's your company, you do what you want to do. But
let's not pretend that this is truly a free speech platform. Right. And I think like the protocol
itself, like there are so many cool things being built on Nostra. And it is very early, like we
say Bitcoin is early, like Nostra is even earlier. But I think it has insane potential. And it's
gonna be really, really cool to look back on, you know, five, 10 years to see how much the ecosystem
has grown around it. And for creators, as you said, that potential is huge, because once you
have inbuilt payments right that's like no no middleman you and your viewer they like it they
zap you and you carry your audience because like that was one of the other hard things that's right
we gained 25 000 followers on tiktok right and then we got shadow banned so we were like okay
we have to start from zero on twitter exactly instagram like no one wants to engage in that
kind of dialogue but if we had been able to just you know utilize our audience off of the
Nostra protocol with our n-pub right like and be able to log into different clients be it like
video photo like in the social media use case to like hear your audience with you across clients
to not be siloed and then censored and then have to start over like that's huge that's huge so
creators don't get that if you have that 25,000 on your Nostra and now you're sick of that app
for some reason you just you just go to another client but you have your 25,000 followers with
do you it's insane it is and i think another like if i like to play devil's advocate because
sometimes you know i think yes there's a lot of like like love the optimism but i'm like let's
be realistic realistic sure like why did third parties come to be in the first place like when
it comes to money or anything right it's like because protecting your own gold protecting
your assets became a personal risk so it's like yeah you put your money in the bank the bank
protects it right so it's like let's say you know how many people accidentally publish their nsec
it's like okay your account is nuked the nsec is the private the private key yes so like people
were like follow me on also here's my nsec and it's like well damn you got a new one you know
and it's like you lose your keys there is no support yes you're not emailing x.com meta.com
to be like i don't got my account can you reset it so i think personal responsibility the same
way it applies to bitcoin the same way it applies to noster is still something that in our society
of like convenience and offloading responsibility is foreign and i think it is fair to say is still
scary you know like i'm a bitcoiner i you know utilize self-custody but i'd be lying if i said
sometimes i'm not like a little scared like when i do it i'm like oh my god this is all on me
right and the other thing is when you put something up on nostril you can't delete it
right that's even scarier for me i'm such a perfectionist so certain clients are actually
like there are certain ways to delete but like because it's relayed and blasted through other
relays like it's never permanently deleted yes yeah yeah that's one of the first things i like
to say when there's like a huge influx of users um it's like careful what you say beware but it's
also makes you more intentional and it's also more authentic yeah like you know i can misspeak or
like stutter or something and that's how i speak that's what happened in reality like that's why
i love when people have typos yeah because i'm like that is just an honest mistake it's not
edited it's not you know and i think it is more it resembles more of an honest open physical dialogue
yep i'm with you thanks for explaining about noster okay i wanted to ask you about cringing
but we talked about it it does take self-confidence to handle the cringe i mean to look at yourself
after you've put a video out there i hate it like walker will play the videos at home and i'm like
turn it off you don't watch any of them i mean sometimes i love if he plays it i mean i love
yours i don't like mine but it's just you know it is like to share your voice to see yourself
it's like i'll do it just because it's like i need to like learn yeah like what i can do better
yeah yeah yeah but like i even cringe when i watch myself like when people are like cringe i'm like
yeah i know ew but i'm also like someone's gotta do it i love it i'm gonna put some of your videos
throughout this interview so it's gonna be really fun love it that'll be fun yeah yeah um people
giving you advice do this do that less of this more of that what do you have to say about that
i respect because i like to think that people are coming from a good place when and i've been
getting a lot more one comment that's interesting it's like i'll post something silly the way i
always posted content before and i'll get comments like you're a mom now like the internet's forever
and i'm like go on like cool and like yeah my son's gonna see this and be like i mean i don't
know what he's gonna say it's up to him but i'm not gonna change you know who i already have
changed a lot but like i don't have to completely reinvent my identity to form or to fit this mold
like that's i think sometimes people have this idea of what i should be in real life yes and
i'm like i'm not here to fit anyone's boxes like i'm here to just be myself and like i will take
advice because sometimes there is good advice sometimes it's not but like i'm always i try to
be respectful it's like i know i like to think that people are coming from a good place um but
specifically sometimes in bitcoin you know like there can be sometimes not purity tests but
they're purity tests and it's like i've never made promises to be a role model to be xyz person so
like don't expect me or like criticize me for acting a certain way when i've never pretended
to be this person right um yeah i get that a lot too and i think that sometimes people
it's so easy for them to just project stuff to the external world rather than looking at
themselves and so they'll spend time telling you what you need to do how you need to be rather than
looking at themselves and it's like thanks for sharing as you said some of the things may be
useful for me and i may take them but most of the times it's like silly stuff you should write more
about this you should record with that i'm like you do it exactly go ahead doors open you do it
better like be my guest all of these ideas you take them and go ahead this is what we try to
inspire people to do exactly to be active and there's plenty of room in the like comedic
educational space right like exactly i encourage everyone like if you think you can do it better
okay um what's the bitcoin ecosystem missing today much is missing well this is something
where i've actually started to change my mind a little bit i used to think that there's just not
a good enough job of external outreach outside the echo chambers like we're not reaching non-bitcoiners
like we're just not getting people on board right and i used to be someone who tries you know like
i'd go orange pilling and like any opportunity i got but the more i did it now i've been doing it
for a few years i'm like really come to the realization that people aren't gonna get it
until a they have like their pain point hit yes or they're open to it like it's kind of futile
So, like, I used to think, like, let's go out and reach as many people as we can.
Now I'm kind of like, nah, like, they're not going to listen anyway.
In fact, we might be doing ourselves a disservice.
Like, we might be pushing people away because we sound and look like a cult.
But we're not, like, right?
Like, we don't have a leader.
Like, we're all about decentralization.
Like, it's the opposite of a cult, right?
So I used to think that, like, more external outreach was what we needed.
And I don't think that's the case anymore.
I think it'd be nice, but I don't think it can be contrived.
So what is missing?
So what is missing? Um, I don't think anything like can be missing or not missing because it's
just such an evolving. It is what it is. Yeah. Yeah. Like I would have to be able to more purely
define it to be able to identify what is missing or not missing. And like, I don't think you can.
No, I love it because you know, I always, I believe that, I mean, it's a little bit of a
tricky question because I do believe that life is very accurate and things are exactly as they
should be and so if this is where we are this is where we need to be right we don't need to change
much we just need to each follow their own calling and voice and things will just sort themselves out
in some miraculous way not that everything will be happily ever after but you know things happen
the way they should happen even if it means that people need to suffer exactly and that's natural
yeah like that's just how it works yeah so i love that that's where you're coming from we don't need
change much thank you and um for content creators educators um what would you have like to see
happen in this industry well honestly there are so many amazing content creators out there and
like i don't think they get the recognition they deserve i agree like i'm kind of flipping the
script here a little bit but like you know like joe nakamoto yeah like they he does such amazing
work like literally going to peru to cuba and stuff and it's like all these people were like
we need to make bitcoin like a bigger part of the conversation i'm like well then give him a retweet
you know like share his stuff like zap him engage julian that we julia of course get based and
isabella like they create amazing stuff like we have so many amazing creators and like i don't
think like if they don't even get the recognition that they deserve from like inside the community
like how are they going to get from outside with you um totally with you and like content creation
is a lot of work like it looks easy because it's like you know a minute here two minutes there and
it's fun and it's sniffy but it's so much work that's not to discourage new people from becoming
creators like i fully encourage it and you know you never know what'll hit and what'll flop and
it's a lot of experimentation yeah but like you really need to be willing to fail okay good a bit
about family life just before we wrap up like being a young mom and you know working with your
husband whether it's just for fun or whether it's work what's your view about family today and how
do you see that as a as part of your life or who you are I am someone who I always knew I'd want a
family eventually but I never knew when and I think it's very true or like you're never ready
and there's never a perfect time that's right it's cliche again as it sounds like it's very very true
I love, like, I honestly can say that, like, I don't really miss my old life.
Like, I love being a mom.
I love doing what I'm doing now.
And I look forward to see how this stage of my life now shapes future content.
So backtracking a bit, like, in college, I actually studied documentary filmmaking.
Like, that was like a minor specialty I did under my journalism degree.
So like, my lifelong dream was always to create like, kind of like a full length film, right?
But like, kind of artsy documentary.
Like, not just a lot of talking heads in interviews.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
But, like, you know, I'm, like, the creative.
I'm a little bit crazy.
So that's sort of been my lifelong dream.
And I think, like, that's going to be what I work towards as, like, a five-year plan.
And, like, I'm actually really curious to see, like, how now being a mom, like, shapes the direction of, like, where I want this piece to go.
Because, again, like, I think if I would have started this piece before I had my son, it would have been a lot more dismal, dark.
Maybe the ending message wouldn't have even been about hope.
because you know like as an actor I thrive on the drama but now that I have my son I'm like wait
maybe I'm gonna make this film like ultimately about like optimism and fighting and not giving
up the way you know I maybe just wanted to expose all the bad things it's like no let's let's change
this direction a bit and like I'm really excited to see how this new part of my life kind of shapes
this and like people ask me like what's next for you and I'm like okay this is like five-year plan
right like what's next for me i can barely think of what's happening next week but that is sort of
my eventual goal is to create something meaningful hopeful and and more serious because like i am
kind of like the clown in the space the jester i like to say i'm a jester but deep down i'm actually
like quite a serious person yeah so it would be also fun for me to kind of showcase that side of
things that would be amazing and i can't wait to watch your work hopefully and to see what you're
doing and if there's any way that i can support you in that you let me know because i love what
you do and i think you're super super talented and i think this industry is so lucky to have you
how to make me cry i don't want to ruin your makeup but thank you so much this has been a
pleasure thank you a bit more this is so fun yeah and is there anything you want people to know is
there anything that you want to leave them with yeah it's one thing i like i never knew it was
so easy because it sounds it's just start whatever you have in your mind that thing you've been just
start like i i look back and i'm like why did it take me 30 years to just start just do it like if
you're looking for a sign this is it this is it whatever that thing is just start it even if you
suck at it even if it makes you hate your life just start because then at least you go to bed
you're like well i started i started that's the first step yeah so well done okay wonderful where
should people follow you i'm carla bitcoin on twitter x um the crypto couple on youtube and
i don't know my n pub by heart and on monster of course excellent and um let's do a bit of a
show here for walker as well yes and you can find walker at walker america on x and he also started
his own podcast called the bitcoin podcast titcoin podcast why does he call it titcoin
well so him and i actually were like just joking around about it because it's another thing
exactly it just made you ask a question exactly sure i've been asking from the first moment that's
why because people hear it they're like titcoin what what but it opens the dialogue yeah right
like why that's that's exactly why we just that's the example okay good so follow the titcoin podcast
excellent all right dear thank you so much good luck at the show here and emceeing yes you're
gonna rock it we're gonna cheer up from the audience so i can't wait well done thank you
thank you bloomberg economics finding a 100 probability of a recession within the next 12
now we see level four mutations like bf7 spreading russia hitting ukraine's infrastructure with
massive strikes across the country china has decided to seize taiwan on a much faster timeline
Slow down, you crazy child
We've all been anxious for quite a while
A couple wars might start while Europe's going dark
What's the play?
What's the fire we should worry about?
They buy our eyeballs and our clicks and then they burn us out
It's hard to tell what's true
And only hate seems to grow every day
But you know that when the lies get old
That we can think for ourselves
Instead of just getting told what to
Eat by while losing privacy through and through
When will you realize
Big brother waits for you
Slow down, open your mind
there ain't no red or blue it's state versus you and now is the time to say no to cbdc's that can
fund anything that they like where they travel they like what are they doing sounds bad but it's
the life we lead they use our dollars in wars while we can't get what we need part of you feel
something wrong and the funny thing is that you're right you're right the system's broken
the money's a lie how can you call it life when you're just forced to work till you die
save on but don't imagine it'll hold value
maybe you'll realize bitcoin waits for you
i found out about a really cool noster initiative this week
some good people decided to invest more time and energy in raising awareness to noster and
educating people about it so they set up this traveling noster booth in conferences and a
series of special noster days in three cities buenos aires sao paulo and san salvador it's a
full-fledged community project and they are crowdfunding for it on gazer if you're a supporter
of free speech and freedom technologies your donation would go a long way the link to the
crowdfunding page is in the show notes conference booth we are blooming here at the noster booth
it's amazing we are meeting amazing people and i can really feel that is a place where you can meet
people working on different projects people working on different products
Why am I bullish on Nostra?
Because I met the most amazing people there.
I'm bullish on Nostra because of free speech, baby.
Two words, freedom and fun.
