Starting point is 00:00:00 The ZM Podcast Network. Hi everybody, welcome to the Brian Clint Podcast. Have you guys used the new Spotify AI DJ yet? No. Wait, what? Haven't even heard of it. Obviously, we recommend that you listen to ZM always. And if you have to stream music you
Starting point is 00:00:25 should use iHeartRadio or stream our podcast from Spotify or do that or wherever you get your podcast but if you can't there's this new feature that Spotify have launched where it's an AI DJ and he talks to you like a radio DJ cool and he plays he plays you the music that you like and then tries to dig in the archives for stuff you haven't listened to for ages. Do you want to hear it? Yeah. Do you want to hear my DJ? My issue with my DJ is my Spotify algorithm is rooted because I play all my kids' music.
Starting point is 00:00:54 So he's like. Oh, that's what he says. Yeah. My DJ's like, hey, I see you, Clint, and I see you, Lou Bega. Let's get into it. Lou Bega. Have a listen to this. Let's see if it Blue Bega Have a listen to this Let's see if it works Standby
Starting point is 00:01:08 Hey how's it going Hope you're doing alright Gonna get our Wednesday music started With some songs you should recognise Like this one from Kanye West So then he plays you like Four or five songs And then he jumps back in
Starting point is 00:01:22 You're listening to Kanye West still? Oh the song's last. How do I find this? Yeah, where do you go? I'll see if I can get my DJ back. Hang on. Switching it up. Let's hear what's good this week in the world of hip hop.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Here's new music from Spotify's A1 playlist, Young Lips First. So annoyingly, he plays you heaps of new music because that's what Spotify wants you to do. It wants you to listen to new music. I was going to say, that's what they're trying to push. I don't give a shit about new music. I'm 36. Okay, let's move on. I'm going to play Kendrick Lamar next.
Starting point is 00:01:51 A few other artists like that. Maybe I've reprogrammed my DJ. I want to know what my DJ plays me. Where do you find it? It's the little blue circle and it should be in your library. There should be the option there somewhere. By the way, don't do this.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Support radio, support your real-life DJs. We can't be replaced by a computer and all that shit, but it's fun to play around with. To be honest, that guy sounds annoying after a while. What if you can change DJs? Can I have a female DJ? What if I don't want a male DJ? Yeah, can you?
Starting point is 00:02:26 Yeah, I wonder if they have that option. Or like different accents. Yeah. You know? My wife has. My wife. My wife. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:02:35 We literally just had the same thought. My wife has intentionally changed her Siri to be a male voice as a feminist protest because. Why? to be a male voice as a feminist protest because these AI servants by default are female. They're in subservient roles. They do what you tell them to. And so the feminist answer to that is why? Why is it always a woman's voice?
Starting point is 00:03:00 And they've done research. They're women's voice for a reason because people are programmed. More calming. Well, yeah yeah and also you're sort of pre-programmed by society to expect women to be in those
Starting point is 00:03:10 service roles so she's because I was like oh you got a man did you know I heard this thing about feminism and you should change it
Starting point is 00:03:17 to a man she goes yes that's why I did it so isn't that fascinating remember that time we went through should we have a look right now
Starting point is 00:03:23 that's quite interesting actually here we go I don't have the thing but I can play it through here remember the time we went through, should we have a look right now? That's quite interesting, actually. Here we go. I don't have the thing, but I can play it through here. Remember the time we went through all the different options? Of Siri voice? Yeah. Remember that? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:33 It's quite interesting. Like a British guy, an Irish guy. So there's, let's go American. Okay. I have to download it? That's annoying. Oh, my God, there's so many options now. Is there?
Starting point is 00:03:50 Maybe it was always like that. Is there a Kiwi one yet where it's like, hey, bro. G'day, bro. What do you want? Nah, no Kiwi. There's American, Australian. Yeah, we get Australian as the closest, I think. British, Indian
Starting point is 00:04:06 Scotland Irish South African No way Is the options I have Give us a bit of South African Okay, South African Mine's weirdly already set to South African
Starting point is 00:04:15 What? Hi, I'm Siri Choose the voice you'd like me to use I'm Siri Hold on I have to do American first Hi, I'm Siri Choose the voice you'd like me to use.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Ooh, that's quite calming. Okay, so that's voice one. Hi, I'm Siri. Choose the voice you'd like me to use. Is that like standard Siri? No, this is just all the different voices. Hi, I'm Siri. Choose the voice you'd like me to use.
Starting point is 00:04:39 No more Americans. I want South African. Hi, I'm Siri. Choose the voice you'd like me to use. Or German. Okay, hold on. Hi, I'm Siri. Choose the voice you'd like me to use. Or German. Okay, hold on. Hi, I'm Siri. Are yours downloaded already, Claude? Because it makes me
Starting point is 00:04:49 download them. South African. I've got voice too. South African. Okay, give it to us. Hi, I'm Siri. Choose the voice you'd like me to use. Ooh. That's not the most South African. Hi, I'm Siri. Choose the voice you'd like me to use. Choose the voice you'd like me to use. Hi, I'm Siri. Oh, I want it to be more South African. Like, I want to not be able to understand it.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Like, if I'm, you know. You want it to be comedically South African. Choose the voice you'd like me to use. Is that the same one? Okay, what about Irish? I'm Siri. Choose the voice you'd like me to use. Choose the voice you'd like me to use.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Interesting. Has anyone ever heard the Australian man? Yeah, I don't like him. You know, I talked to the actual Australian female Siri voice one time We interviewed her Did you? Yeah So she was, do you know how she got such an
Starting point is 00:05:34 People's phones which are always listening would have been so confused by that Yeah, so it's such an interesting voice Voice, it's such an interesting story So we interviewed her and we asked her, how did you get that job? Yeah. And so essentially this was like obviously quite a long time ago. She was living in New York City and she's a voice actor. That's what she does.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Yeah. And she saw an ad in the paper for this voice acting job where it was like she goes a very extensive lots of hours she goes which you don't normally see those type of acting jobs like voice acting jobs and anyway she turned up for it and auditioned and essentially they like told her you know you're going to be the voice of this ai kind of concept where you know i mean imagine trying to explain that to someone before it existed yeah they wouldn't yeah how like how hard would it anyway so she she got the job and i can't remember because we asked her how long like how many hours did it take for you to record everything you need to record but i think i think it was something maybe like 60 hours maybe i remember remember when everyone used to have
Starting point is 00:06:51 navmans in their car yes and they could talk to you do you remember just before it flipped over to being on your phone they did a couple of novelty things and you could have snoop dogg novelty voices um we did a promotion at the radio station that I was working at where Fletch and Vaughn were hired to be an option. So if you listen to Fletch and Vaughn on your drive home, you could have them as your nav man as well and they could. That's so buzzy. And they had to do that same thing. They had to go into an hours-long voicing session,
Starting point is 00:07:20 but there was no AI. This is like 2010 maybe. I hope I'm remembering this correct. And they would have had to go in and say everything. They would have had to say turn left, turn right, in 100 metres, in 50 metres, in 25 metres. And we'd all have to get saved into that thing. Technically, no.
Starting point is 00:07:37 This woman told me because I said to her, I was like, does that mean you have to say every single word? And she said with the technology they had, they could, with the programming, she the technology they had, they could, with the programming, she could say certain words and they could chop. That's why it sounds weird. Yeah, it all gets stitched together.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Yeah, so they would stitch certain words together to get other words so you don't have to say every single word. But they still had to have the words back then. Yeah. Hey, I just had a weird memory pop into my head. Claude, can you search in the system, or Clint, can you search in the system Bogan Siri? Oh, it's a race, Claude.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Oh, no. Who's going to find it first? There's nothing under Bogan Siri. This is like Google down, but dated radio software version. Producer Ben probably left us the gift of it being deleted. What is this? It's gone. What's this one? Producer Ben probably left us the gift of it being deleted. What is this? It's gone.
Starting point is 00:08:28 What's this one? On your wall. In the after party wall? Oh, hold on. Claudia's going to be so happy if she's won. It's something else. From now on, I'll call you a... That was something I did, remember? You changed your name to...
Starting point is 00:08:53 I think it is? Yeah, yeah. And then she's... From now on, I'll call you a... I remember I changed my... Oh, my God, weird. now and I'll call you. I remember I changed my... Oh my god, weird. That was Inception. I changed my name and my phone to
Starting point is 00:09:13 Big Daddy once, but not for any other reason that I thought it was funny. And then I was in the car with somebody and I was like, hey, navigate to this place. Okay, Big Daddy. And it goes, okay, Big Daddy. And the person I was in the car with was like, did your phone
Starting point is 00:09:26 just call you Big Daddy? That's so bad. That's so awkward. Anyway, Spotify DJ, what's up next? Is that what you're talking about? Some of your kind
Starting point is 00:09:39 of artists here. Fleetwood Mac, stuff like that. Damn, this guy's fucking good. So scary. It's so scary maybe I do need to I want that
