So come on, come on, come on.
Let's party tonight.
Whoa.
Hi everybody, welcome to the Brian Clint After Party Podcast with Brodie Kane,
where we're not going to wank on the whole podcast about Fred again, again.
But I do want to ask Claudia, who went last night as a Fred again virgin,
what she thought of the show.
Because here in New Zealand we've been overwhelmed by Fred again and it's a mixture
of I love him
I can't believe I get the chance to see him
and who the hell is Fred again
that's the two camps there's almost
exclusively nobody else you were in the
second camp Claudia but you bought a ticket out of curiosity
yeah do you remember two weeks ago I
came to you and I was like so Fred again
who is this guy
and then yeah tickets came out and I got real competitive and I was like, so, Fred again, who is this guy? Yep. And then, yeah, tickets came out and I got real competitive
and I was like joining everything.
I was on my phone, I was on my computer, I was in the Ticketek line.
And then my partner ended up getting the tickets, by the way.
I decided not to go.
And then my partner got them and I was like, oh, all right, I'll go.
Yeah.
But if you want to know how I enjoyed it.
Yeah, I do really want to know.
Yeah.
Well, I loved it.
You loved it?
I was sitting.
You loved it? I i was sitting loved it night
a really good time don't tell me you were fucking sitting no no no sorry my seats that i was
standing in front of thank you the very back row like you could not get further back in the nose
bleeds yeah right in the back crikey yeah but the guys next to me there must have been like 19 or 20
they were having the best night like dancing the whole time did they add to it for you yeah and
they were like can you take a picture of us and they were like those are the best concerts ever and like dancing
like very wholesome and yeah it was great it was the show was great the staging was great the
how would you as a as a virgin oh how would you also having never listened to fred again
yeah crikey that's a that's a big that's a hard launch how would you describe the music? I would say it's like clubby, but it's like creative.
And it's like doof-doof music, but like in a good way.
Well, I don't love doof-doof music.
I've never loved doof-doof music.
But I feel like because he's doing it live, he's hitting the buttons,
he's got his friends involved, there's all the visuals on screen.
And yeah, he's a little cutie pie.
He's playing piano. Yeah.
And his singing was actually amazing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What does he sing?
What's one that I can listen to? Put your loving arms around me.
Is that him?
Yeah, you.
Put your loving arms around me.
Around me, around me.
Again and again and again.
And that's what I mean.
That's actually what I quite like.
And I quite like.
And the reach out.
I thought it was just going to be a guy behind a deck.
A deck? A deck.
Clicking a button and just going like doof, doof, doof.
Yeah.
But it wasn't.
It was a whole thing.
It was a whole show.
What I think is really contagious about him is that you can tell that he's just having
the fucking time of his life.
You can't fake that.
You actually can see him quite often just sort of taking a bit of a moment.
Like he does.
And then he sits back down.
He's got that bouncy piano chair, which I was like, that's cute.
And he's just actually epic.
And he kept being like, oh, sorry, I'm just having fun now.
Like it wasn't part of the set, I'm just having fun now.
I got a bit deep and meaningful.
I was there with Matt Heath and a few few other people and i turned around to matt i
said do you know what i love do you want to fucking love about concerts is that yes there's so much
i'm going deep there's so much bad in the world there's so much there's so much and this is just
a few hours that you can take and you can surround yourselves with complete
strangers and be having
the time of your lives
it is so special I love it
it's the beauty of shared experiences
and
as much bad as there is in the world
oh fuck am I going to go deep
there's more good
there's way more good than there is bad
it's just the bad gets more attention and the bad gets more headlines the bad sells newspapers there's way more good. There's way more good than there is bad. It's just the bad gets more attention.
And the bad gets more headlines, the bad sells newspapers.
There's way more good.
There's tiny bits of good.
Like dropping your kids off at kindy and seeing a community of people
who are just focused on raising these tiny little people.
Like I see it every morning.
And I'm like, life's fucking great.
There's lots of bad shit going on, but life's fucking great.
But back to the shared experience thing that's when we come
together here um because we do because we do we get there with a shared cause and we go i love this
thing and you turn to the person beside you you don't even have to say it and you know they love
that thing or it could be claudia who's about to experience that thing for the first time which is
also beautiful same with going to the rugby it's not as impassioned no it is though because it's
something that you're into
and you can wear your colours,
you can show up in your tribe.
Rugby is just the example
I'm giving.
Same with football,
same with netball,
same with everything
but we're losing
the shared experiences
as the culture,
I hate to say splinters
but because we're all niched now,
it's harder to find
big, big shared experiences that we can all talk about.
TV's finding it.
No one's watching the same TV shows.
No.
Right, right.
So it's harder to find this shared experience that we're all like,
we all agree and go, this is the thing that we like.
Brodie, you can liken it to going to a Taylor Swift concert.
It's the same thing.
Shared experiences.
Amen.
Yes.
Yes, I could.
And I'm. And I might.
I will allow you to honor that shared experience
with all the people that you shared that with.
And I saw the joy.
I saw the joy.
And I was joyous for you.
Thank you, Brodie.
You're welcome.
That's so kind of you.
You know, we said we weren't going to wank on the whole podcast,
and here we are wanking. I wasn't. That's so kind of you. You know, we said we weren't going to wank on the whole podcast, and here we are wanking.
I wasn't.
This is lovely.
It actually was quite lovely.
It was actually quite lovely.
Yeah, because also with concerts,
everyone's not fighting or sharing their opinions about political stuff.
We're all just, you know,
we're all just doing it together.
So, I mean, it's just a couple of hours where everyone's happy.
Unplug, yeah.
There's no comment section. There's no he said, she happy. Unplug, yeah. Exactly. There's no comment section.
There's no he said, she said.
Actually, I think this, we're just all there for one thing only.
There's actually a Fred Again song about this exact thing.
Which one?
It's called Maria, M-A-R-E-A.
It's exactly what it's about.
It's about how we lost all of the stuff that we're talking about to COVID.
And it came out during COVID
when nobody could dance
and nobody could go to concerts.
We've lost dancing.
That's the one we keep playing.
We've lost dancing.
He said it last night.
Yeah, I remember that.
How are you guys
not as hungover as I was
after my Freddie Hill concert?
I drove home.
Same.
I was a sack of actual shit yesterday.
I keep seeing the videos. I look grey. Same. I was a sack of actual shit yesterday. I keep seeing the videos.
I look grey.
You did look a bit grey.
We're glad to have you back, though.
But the people I went with also looked grey.
Shared experience.
Yes.
And that's what matters.
You can bond over a hangover.
It's weird.
100%.
Thank you for doing the show with us for the last couple of weeks.
